Talia secretly adopts all of Bruce’s kids behind his back. Dick? she got to know him shortly after he became Nightwing and supported him through his debut. Jason? she had more than enough time to adopt a parental role for him while he was still staying in Nanda Parbat. Tim? she’s been corresponding with him since forever. she was so proud when he committed his first war crime too. Steph saw her visiting one of the boys, recognized her and befriended her to spite Bruce. Duke sort of just assumed she was Bruce’s wife after seeing the way the other kids act around her and never questioned it. she’s too scary for him to dare do that, and anyway, she’s pretty chill so he won’t complain. Cass sees the whole thing unfold, and while i don’t think she’s Talia’s biggest fan, i think she would find the whole thing funny anyway.
Bruce never noticed. not until all of his kids had already fallen into the habit of calling her mom

now i have a device to art again 😈😈😈
but no, seriously; pls enjoy what i managed to recover regarding this fixation (which isn't hyper anymore at this point, but it won't ever really go away) from my previous computer – unfortunately it has, at last, kicked the bucket and left this realm for good (+13 years in the family, you will be dearly missed my friend ✊😔😭🙏)
i still revisit their designs from time to time, finicking with parts of it; and there's stuff solely on paper that i now have the means to photograph and show you all. it will be slow going but it IS coming up soon, rest assured. that's all i've wanted to tell, really. to y'all'ses attention – much obliged *bows*

I saw a twitter post wishing for interactions between Lex and Steph and I need to pitch a Nightmare Time called "Wicked Stepsisters"
After Solomon Lauter's charity photo-op in the Hatchetfield Trailer Park, Pamela Foster manages to schmooze her way into a marriage with the mayor. The relationship goes smoothly at first with the Fosters gaining financial stability and Solomon gaining clout before the election.
But that doesn't last for long. Steph is irritated with Pamela for using them for their money and pissed off at her father favoring Lex because he can buy HER good behavior; Lex--sorry, Alex. Solomon paid the name change fees for Hannah and Lex, and Lex Lauter "just doesn't sound as good"--is annoyed at her mother's fake-ass housewife routine and snippy with Steph because at least she grew up with money to compensate for having a bad parent; Hannah doesn't do well with the attention and being paraded around as a prop for Solomon's new Disability Advocacy campaign; Pamela doesn't want her daughters to ruin this for them; and Solomon's image is faltering with all of these problems surrounding him.
So what does he do? He packs them all up for a family retreat at the Outclast Resort in the prettiest part of the Witchwood so they can relax and find some common ground before they cost him the election.
Obviously things get worse; it's Hatchetfield.

So, since apparently I'm in a DC posting mood right now, you all want to hear this concept that's been baking in my mind for a while now?
Stephanie Brown is the same level of crimefighter as Bruce Wayne. Hear me out.
First, a common thematic reading of the Batfamily, especially the Batkids, is that all of them are in some way better than Bruce at one specific thing. Like with the equally broad thematic reading of 'All of Batman's rogues reflect a part of his psyche' this doesn't entirely hold up to scrutiny and doesn't apply to all of the Batkids, but it applies to enough: Dick is the better leader, Babs is the better strategist, Tim is the better detective, Cass is the better fighter, you get the idea. Now, normally when considering this reading the consensus for Steph is that she is the negative archetype, similar to how the Joker is interpreted in the rogues reading - an inverse of the common rule, in this case meaning that Steph isn't particularly good at anything. Some people who take this reading end this part with 'And that's why I love her!' - most don't. But I think that's entirely wrong, and to explain why we need to examine Bruce's own past.
In most versions of the Batman origin, there's a period, usually immediately or closely after Bruce graduating from either high-school or college, where Bruce travels the world, seeking masters of specific disciplines and learning all he can from them. The amount of people he meets is extensive - seriously, I have a word doc of 40 names and that's not even all of them - and later stories, particularly the Nolan trilogy, Batman/The Shadow, and IIRC Batman: Earth One, try to par that down to a single entity - The League of Shadows, The Shadow, and Alfred, respectively - teaching him all that is necessary to become Batman. It's not a change I particularly like, for one simple reason - the trek around the globe is as much metatexual as it is backstory. Like many of the prototypical superheroes, Batman isn't just one thing, he's many influences that Bill Finger brought to the table when creating him - he's a pulp hero like the Shadow, an adventure swashbuckler like Zorro and the Scarlet Pimpernel, a detective like Sherlock Holmes, all melding together to form our concept of 'Batman'. Having him learn from all these disparate sources - from ninjas and car thieves and magicians and detectives - seems like a way of acknowledging that breadth of influence, and I can't help but feel like limiting it to only Ra's or Lamont or Alfred takes away from that.
So, what does all that have to do with Stephanie Brown? Well, think about it - almost all of the Batfamily have only one real mentor - there are exceptions, like Tim basically becoming Babs' apprentice in No Man's Land and Cass' very funny shared custody situation, but mainly all of the Batkids learn from Batman, and what they excel at they were just kind of naturally good at anyway - Babs and Cass especially, no shade. With Steph, though? It's not as impressive as Bruce's list, but she learns general Cowl skills with Bruce, hacking and cryptography with Babs, detective skills with Tim, get fighting tips from Cass and Black Canary, is taught teamwork by Kate, evasion skills with Damian (that last one may not be purposeful), plus whatever else she can learn because, unlike the rest of the Batfamily, at least Pre-Flashpoint Steph was always learning.
True, Steph started out with very few practical skills in crimefighting, but you know who else did that? Bruce - every single time a comic or adaptation has shown him attempting to fight crime before the training trek has him absolutely suck at it. At the very least Steph never decided to stop her dad by attempting to assassinate him in a courthouse full of witnesses by veeery slowly pointing a gun at him, like Nolanverse Bruce.
Bottom line? If one more person says Steph 'isn't particularly skilled at anything', I will chew glass.

Please people. Hobbies, talents, interests, and traits are not not limited to one character per source. Two characters can like the same thing, can have the same skill, etc. More than two, in fact. You don't need to ignore/headcanon away details about a character just because you want another character to be special/unique.

"In the eyes of her contemporary chronicles, [Alice Perrers] is seen primarily as a spectacle of transgressive femininity: the Lady of the Sun, as she styled herself in the procession to the Smithfield Tournaments in 1375. She certainly dazzled the English court, scandalized and thrilled by the spectacle of this elegantly clothed and jewelled woman managing her substantial land estates."
"Bothwell argues that part of the problem with Alice was that she behaved as a male favourite might, flaunting the wealth and prestige that her position had granted her, for instance by blatantly using her relationship with Edward III to help her friends. Certainly Walsingham’s description makes it clear that the real issue with Alice […] was her behaviour in her position."
— Stephanie Trigg, "The Traffic of Medieval Women: Alice Perrers, Feminist Criticism and Piers Plowman" / Rebecca Holdorph, "‘My Well-Beloved Companion’: Men, Women, Marriage and Power in the Earldom and Duchy of Lancaster, 1265-1399"

*twirling my hair* do you like cassandra cain? if not, do u have a moment to hear about our lord and saviour cassandra cain?
CASSANDRA CAIN MY LOVE!!! She's definitely the batgirl I've read the most in terms of full issues, the first 30-ish issues of her solo by Kelly Puckett Scott Peterson and Damion Scott had me hooked and I binged them but fell off after Horrocks came on (nothing against him, he was just given an editorial mandate to make the book more romance focused and it turned me off because it felt so ooc for Cass to me lol. I do own some of the issues he wrote tho! I like the ones with art by Rick Leonardi). I'm not really caught up with modern comics (ish??) And I'm not reading anything dedicatedly but I hear she's in a new original book teaming up with a magic user? Neat! Good for her. I love her in the shadow of the batgirl graphic novel (IT'S SO GOOD)
#ramblings of a lunatic#asks#^ sorry had to be tistic about things for a minute#i loved damion scotts artwork for her solo series sm (especially the later moee stylized stuff even though i recognise how bonkers-#-the proportions are i can't help myself. i like women and i love stylised art like that)#his stuff was surprisingly influential on my own art. idk how much it shows these days but It's There#this hasn't mentioned anything about what i love about cass as a character but like. it's the same as most people who love her man#i love her self destructive dedication to redemption i love the guilt she's saddled with-#-and how it's juxtaposed with her committment to kindness and justice i love how she's the fucking best and she knows it#i love how the relationship between her and oracle was an intergenerational mentorship between two disabled women#and her gay ass bond with stephanie (who in all fairness may be my fav batgirl???-#-but I've also read wayyy less complete issues of her compared to cass due to the differences in how their respective series' are-#-formatted but like. what i have seen i tend to love. i love u stephanie)#but also dear god i do not wanna get reeled back in because nothing the industry ever does will please me the way the ideas in my head do#and I'm constantly at war with myself reading stuff#also it's just hard to get back in when you've been gone with a while it's all just very difficult#but i am rotating cass and stephanie in my brain like a microwave waiting for someone to explode#plenty of people smarter than me have already said this but cass should team up with jason and they should both seethe#he wants to kill. she keeps breaking his bones if he tries it. they're both brushing each others philosophies off bc of where they exist-#-on the batfamily ''kill/no kill'' binary even though they share similarities of wanting to be batman but Better#(jason via controlling crime and killing criminals and her with her ultimate dedication to the symbol and superior combat skills)#(also keep in mind i just watched utrh but haven't read a rhato comic in yonks. so if this is an outdated jason characterization+#-then whoopsie <3)#Jason's dedicated to pushing buttons and poking holes in batmans philosophy and cass is great at reading ppl-#-and sometimes in her series she then performs a limited psychoanalysis of them and tears them apart#(at least she did for shiva) I'd love to see her do that to jason. break him so i can tape his sad lil ass back together#this is getting away from me. anyway no need to proselytise. I'm a former alter boy round here

Stephanie is an inch or two shorter than Jason at most and as such can pick him up by the barrels that are his thighs and/or pin him to the wall while giving him the dirtiest french kissing he's ever gonna get with an ease that could only be matched by an Amazon.
Hard agree! In my head, Stephanie is 5'11'' to Jason's 6' (which, in my mind, translates to them being able to decently share a variety of clothes to the point where their closets are all mixed up)
[THIS] is part of my ideal jaysteph dynamic. She has earned the right to literally just throw Jason around and he's totally infatuated by the fact that she can, will, and does.
If you have a cat (or have seen this in action) then you know that when you kinda just flip them it functions as a factory reset moment for them. That's what Steph throwing him around is for Jason. He just freezes and follows her whim. Sometimes out of audacious or friendly exasperation. Other times out of shock.
Either way, both know Steph will shove Jason up against a stairway wall on top of some desolate rooftop or pull him close by the lapels of his jacket and kiss his lips blood red if she runs into him on patrol. And both know Jason will pull her in closer and gladly go along while returning the favor with eager participation.

Shazam identity reveal AU where the league knew Captain Marvel was a child named Billy since day one but he stubbornly refuses to transform or tell his full name for the whole 4 years he’s been on the team and everyone’s so confused because they know like. 95% of his identity already why is he hiding this specific part?
They start thinking he’s some kind of criminal or had a dark past he’s hiding from them. They know so much about him, though. They know he’s homeless, they know he’s had bad foster homes, they know his parents died tragically and his uncle stole his inheritance. he shares everything. Everything except the one thing that would show he truly trusts them. Why? What have they done to convince him they weren’t trustworthy?
Then. He accidentally transforms back during a battle. Batman instantly scans his face with the facial scanner that’s built into his mask because he’s paranoid as hell of course he has one of those. And he sees exactly why he hid it for so long.
The tension in the air is so palpable that the entire league feels it and they look back and forth between them waiting for the bomb to drop.
Cyborg is the one who blurts it out (he IS a facial scanner)
“Your last name is BAT SON??”
Billy groans into his hands in defeat and Batman sighs, finally understanding why the secret was kept so desperately.
From then on the league refuses to call Billy anything other than Big Red Robin or just Big Robin. Robin but big. they call Batman Captain Dad at every possible opportunity. Whenever Billy does something wrong someone threatens to tell his dad on him then call Batman. The robins last names may as well not exist because from then on they are only ever called Damian Bat-son or Red Hood Bat-son or Stephanie Bat-daughter, except for Red Robin who’s called Little Red Robin or, if they’re feeling brave, the Little Red Cheese. The bat children and Billy’s nicknames become so confusing and meshed together that conversations get very confusing and the names just become interchangeable. The press is convinced that Captain Marvel is Batman’s secret love child within a week.
It gets so chaotic so fast, no one knows how this happened but names mean nothing anymore and Batman is getting a DNA test. So much opportunity for chaos!
