Other worldbuilding question!
What are the landmarks of Kem lon-Dalan, like what’s the structures that kids say to meet up at cause people know where they are
I’m glad you asked! Again!
Gates are very common meeting places. There’s the North Gate, which is exactly what it sounds like: the gate leading north out of the city. Likewise, there’s the East Gate. The so-called “East District” is the part of Kem lon-Dalan atop the Brother (the eastern cliff of the Twins). It’s kind of a pain to get there, though. Your options are go around the cliff, or climb stairs. In contrast, the Sister (the western cliff) just has fortifications for defensive purposes.
The Market District runs along the western edge of the city and has three gates, namely the High Market Gate in the north, the Low Market Gate in the south, and just the plain Market Gate in between those two. (There used to be a high wall around the Market District, like there is around the Living District. Since the wall was torn down centuries ago, all that’s left are arches with gates that just always stay open, hardly more than ornamental.) There’s also the docks, of course.
The Living District is a big bulk of a district in the southeast of the city, pressing against the cliff and coast. It has three gates as well, the Pearl Gate in the northeast, the Iron Gate in the northwest, and the Dirt Gate in the west. Different parts of the Living District are nicer and more expensive to live in, and the name of the gate generally corresponds to how nice or not nice it is.
I am tired of talking about gates. If I have to say gate one more time, I’m going to scream.
The Red Beach is, as the name implies, a walled-off beach with red sand. According to the stories, a king from a far off land came ashore on that beach, riding a tide of his enemies’ blood. Natives know that it’s really an execution ground. Old traditions saw that those on death row had their blood drained onto the beach after death. That hasn’t been done for a long time, though, and the smell of iron is gone. It’s still entirely red, which is both disgusting and terrifying. Great for dumb kids to test their courage. It’s smack dab in the center of the coast, quite possibly the least welcoming sight for visitors.
The Veika ta-Lilasen is the grand square below the steps of the Veika ir-Jai, the palace of the tyrant king who supposedly ruled the entire Vandeth Desert some 1500 years ago. The stories go that a star fell to the teph*, where the Veika ta-Lilasen would be built, hence the name: “The Star with Us”**. Apparently, the tyrant king used the star to create not only the Veika ir-Jai—Wisdom’s Star—but the whole of Kem lon-Dalan, all on his own. But that’s preposterous. A story is all it is.
*The planet’s name is Teph (/tef/). If there’s a word with “earth” in it, it’s replaced with “teph”.
**The Vandeth language has no articles; rather, they are inferred from context.
And yeah! Those are some of the major landmarks in Kem lon-Dalan. There’s probably others, but to be totally honest, I haven’t thought of those yet.

a person who named a genus, on tumblr
Actually, three genera, but Anilany and Nanohyla are not as catchy as Mini. A full list of the taxa I have described is available on my website. :)

Picture this; Bones holding Joanna, rocking her to sleep and the part in Beautiful Boy where it’s like “The monster's gone, He's on the run, And your daddy's here” is playing. :,)
Fatherhood gives you certain... skills. Coincidentally, this is also how Jim finds out that Bones sings.

Yall are excited for Will and his Stars Wars references(absolutely as you should), but also please do consider the absolute amazing addition of Nico geeking out over Spiderman.
I need that in my life, I've been obsessing over it since he said,
“With great power... comes great need to take a nap. Wake me up later.”
ABSOLUTE Spidey nerd, please let me have this–!!

BOW!Leon WIP | Luis's POV
An unlikely ally in Luis’s trying-to-comfort-a-BOW-because-it's-the-right-thing-to-do plan is one of the BSAA’s own soldiers. One of the soldiers who encountered 537 in the field, actually. Lieutenant Piers Nivans, second in command of Alpha team. Luis finds Nivans watching 537 over the lunch break, curiously peering at the computer monitor to see 537 inside its crate (which it had returned to and not moved from since the crate was put back inside its enclosure, proving the attempt to teach 537 the floor was safe was a failure).
Nivans— he insisted Luis not use his rank— is very interested in BOWs in a more academic way than Luis would have expected from one of the BSAA’s top soldiers, especially from Alpha team, which Luis knows is deployed to eliminate BOWs all the time. Frankly, Luis is surprised that Alpha team didn’t shoot 537 on sight. He asks Nivans about that decision.
“It’s really weird, but it wasn’t attacking us. It was doing exactly that, so we left it alone.” Nivans points to 537 through the one-way glass. “I’ve never seen a BOW be calm, you know? I thought it was just an animal at first, like a leopard or something. Didn’t feel right to shoot something that was minding its own business, so we just closed the door to the room and moved on.”
. .. ... .. . It is a brutal, callous thought, but it is scientifically interesting that 537 could even be taught to be ‘calm’ as Nivans put it. Nivans is thinking along the same lines, though, because he suddenly looks even more interested.
“Have you guys ever trained a BOW before?”
Luis frowns. “No.”
Nivans tilts his head. “Do you want to try?”
Luis stabs a finger at the paused video on his tablet screen. “That’s cruel, I won’t let anyone—”
“You know zoos train their animals, right? Their dangerous animals, including lions and reptiles. It’s possible— straightforward, probably, as long as the animal has the capacity to learn, which 537 clearly has.” Nivans pauses, looks Luis over. “Do you have anyone on the team who has experience with training dogs?”
“Why would we have someone on the research team with that expertise?” Normally, BOWs are pretty single-minded. If awake and aware, they are either trying to destroy or trying to produce more of themselves. The only time Luis has heard of anyone having any sort of progress ‘training’ a BOW is with Nemesis— but those were human, so it was more about preserving enough of the mind and brain to allow tasks to be remembered and completed.
“I could teach you how to do it, if you’re serious.” Nivans offers like Luis doesn’t already have a full time job. “I’ve helped train MWDs— uh, military working dogs. It’s actually pretty fun.”
“Why don’t you do it yourself?”
Nivans shrugs. “I don’t really have much free time usually, but I guess I could for a little while. Until we’re moved onto another assignment.”
“If you think that could be helpful,” Nivans adds.
“I don’t know what good it would do, to be honest. What do you think we could train it to do?” Luis asks.
Nivans watches 537 pretending to sleep inside of its too small crate. “I don’t know. Maybe it’s really smart?”
“That would be fascinating to discover,” Luis says. “But I think 537 is owed at least the understanding that it can have the whole room to itself.”
Nivans nods. “Let me talk to my captain.”

I’ve been playing Honkai Star Rail and looking at leaks and I’m gonna be honest
I’m gonna be honest, Blade and Dan Heng and Dan Feng and Yingxing and their whatever have me feeling the most insane I’ve felt in months, like I’m feeling crazy thinking about them and all the theories people have about them. The dragon heart theory? I literally feel compelled to self destruct every time I see or hear it, anytime the two of them are talked about in relation to each other, I get the urge to scream
Their lore is… it’s so good, it’s immaculate, It’s my favorite out of HSR so far easily
Blade’s lore also like before he came to the Luofu is so painful too… like Hoyoverse decided that for right now he’s gonna be both a metaphorical (Hoyo making his whole life from childhood tragic as hell) and literal (for Jingliu) punching bag in this game.

Random Star Trek thought; Spock should be sterile right? I mean it’s like heavily emphasised that he is a hybrid and as he’s half human he’d be a mammal hybrid and since he’s male it’s likely that he’d be unable to reproduce.(Like mules or male ligers)
Idk it’s just a recurring thought i’ve had and I’m no biologist so maybe my science is off but I thought it was kinda interesting since the whole Spock - Saavik kid thing. Ofc Star Trek is set in the future so this doesn’t matter too much since science is always expanding and there could be a cure to infertility or something? Sorry this is kind of rambly and hard to read

I just realized something.
back to back, I just posted about the gay soccer anime, the merits of star trek's brattiest bottom, and the psychosexual obsessions of my deranged wholesome baldur's gate 3 crackship.
i am truly a jack of all trades.
that is the triangle of freak behaviors I have absorbed into my soul and incorporated into my personality.
you're welcome for my presence here.

So a thought I've been having for a few weeks now of kryptonians and mild colour blindness. Like, if they lived under a red sun, and predominantly lived there, they probably had *some* colour blindness, right?? I mean, i guess they couldve been genetically engineered for that to like. Not happen but then I'd be petitioning for them to have a wayyy wilder sense of sight and perception of colours. Anyway it also led to mild colourblind kara thoughts and her arguing with everyone about it djdjdkf
rip you just opened one of my special interest barrels and im supposed to be working LMAO
Ok honestly I've wondered about that too bc if Krypton is a red sun planet and they supposedly had flora and fauna before the war that inevitably collapsed the planet, it would be adapted to that darker "sweet spot" for life to grow. Like would the plants be darker (blacks, deep greens, purples, reds?) and would the animals and kryptonians have altered vision and metabolism to make up for the lack of light? Like would we be seeing more bioluminescence (let kara glow in the dark, it would be funny)? Would they have better low light vision and even dark vision? Would they have heightened hearing or even echolocation?
It is canon that kryptonians started growing clones of themselves to use as basically free extra parts to extend their lives during the golden age (i may be getting a few details wrong here, it's been a minute since i looked at my notes and stuff) (The reason the civil war began is bc anti-clone kryptonians wanted to prove that those bodies were real people (and they did! bodily and mental autonomy for the win!).). SO it is very plausible that there was more genetic engineering to benefit their race and their existence on this red sun planet since most of the population was using this technology as opposed to natural birth. That would make a more interesting take on Kara's senses and powers on a yellow sun planet since she was supposedly conceived in one of these tubes (kal/clark was the first kryptonian in generations to be created (lol) the "old" way bc he had the luck of his parents loving each other and not solely together for political purposes via the matricomp).
Also it would just lead to some really cool ways to play with her powers, give a different way to play with her heat vision and x-ray vision (even her hearing), and kick off a huge social media hubub when Supergirl accidentally reveals that she's weirdly color blind.
