I've been typing so many words that some words just don't seem real anymore. I'm only 500 words in of a 1500 word essay.
To which I then have to do another two times. Fuck my life.

Mesolithic Red Deer Ritual Burial, 'Star Carr: Life After The Ice' Exhibition, The Yorkshire Museum, York
Red deer bones were found in a deposit with remains of worked wood and other animal bones; at first this suggested the carefully arranged burial of a single creature but closer inspection revealed two pairs of left rear legs. It was clear that the skeleton was an amalgamation of several animals. This remains an enigmatic process.

Norkshire (typo in star carr post)
Thank you for catching this. I copied the info from a facebook group (which usually posts pretty things, and has a link at the bottom if you want to fund their stuff, and didn't bother to proofread it because sometimes I'm just that lazy). My tired, dyslexic brain just said...well, I'm sure there is a Norkshire somewhere in England, maybe it's like Rutland or something and I just haven't heard of it because it's England and I've been there maybe four times, and only through Yorkshire twice. It's like locating anything in Rhode Island if you're not from there: wicked hahd, but if you're from there, sure, you've got a cousin who lives ovah in Little Compton, and yeah, used to drive all the way down to Aunt Carrie's for stuffies and chowdah every summah. That said, again, thanks. As always, if you ever notice any errors in my posts, let me know. Also, if you look back far enough in time, especially before 2015 or so, I'm sure the rabbit hole gets deeper and weirder, so...if you notice any errors from then, please be advised that I had cracked my skull twice in a two year period, had several concussions, and was just generally going through what my psychiatrist has referred to as "some shit." If this post inspires you to take such a deep dive...do so at your own risk, but let me know if you find anything that is too weird/crazy/or just unpleasant...people change over time, and I like to think I have.

Today in the Department of Before They Were Star Trek Stars, Jonathan Frakes guest stars in "Face of Fear," episode 20 of the fourth season of Quincy, M.E. (original air date March 24, 1982).
I wasn't going to continue making these posts while I was having trouble with my corneas and using a borrowed computer, but when I got hold of these episodes of Quincy I couldn't resist. Maybe I'll just come back and edit them when my peeper are in better shape. I'll definitely come back and add alt text to the images.
Frakes plays Leon Bohannon, a drug dealer whose name is brought to you by the letters O and N. He kills one of his mules during a deal gone wrong in his business partner's beach house. The only witness is a neighbor who suffers from severe agoraphobia and is walking past the window on her first trip outside the house by herself in seven years. Because of her emotional stress and self-medication with alcohol, the police don't believe her until the forensic evidence Dr. Quincy finds in the autopsy of an apparent Jane Doe corroborates her story. In an ending that brought a big smile to the face of this Gen X kid, when Bohannon tries to kill the witness, she runs for sanctuary to the nearby mall where her husband had been taking her for desensitization. Is there anything a trip to the mall can't fix? Look at him, getting apprehended outside the Casual Corner!
Other Trek connections under the cut:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Paul Carr, who played Enterprise helmsman Lt. Lee Kelso in the Original Series episode "Where No Man Has Gone Before," has a small role as the witness's husband.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dr. Quincy's regular contact on the homicide squad, the gruff but jovial Lt. Frank Monahan, was played by Garry Walberg, who appeared as the doomed commander of Outpost 4 in the Original Series episode "Balance of Terror."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
John S. Ragin played Dr. Quincy's boss, the long-suffering bureaucrat Dr. Robert Astin, as well as Dr. Christopher, Dr. Crusher's prime suspect in the Next Generation whodunit episode "Suspicions."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dr. Quincy's assistant and one-man forensics team, Sam Fujiyama, was played by Robert Ito. Before there was CSI, there was Sam. Or, as he's better known to Voyager fans, Harry Kim's Dad (S07E19, "Author, Author").

And, last but not least, the lady herself, Jeri Taylor. Taylor was the executive story editor of this episode, but that's just the tip of the iceberg of her involvement in the worlds of both Quincy and Star Trek. She was in the writers' room of 44 Quincy episodes as either a writer, story editor, or executive story editor, and produced an additional 24. Starting out as a supervising producer on Star Trek: The Next Generation, she worked her way up to executive producer and eventually showrunner in the seventh and final season. The co-creator of Voyager, she served as executive producer/showrunner for the first four seasons, stepping back into a creative consultant role for the remaining three. She wrote and co-wrote scripts - nearly 200 in all - for The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager; penned two Voyager novels and the novelization of the Next Generation two-parter "Unification;" and worked on the production teams of the feature films Generations and First Contact.

Some Scyre Clan headcanons because I'm making a mermaid/siren AU and they're on the mind.
-Gosta was only 14 in the book but I headcanon that she's lesbian, and had a bit of a crush on Elli, aka LE-2003, one of Brendol's stormtroopers who crashed with him on Parnassos. Elli's Wookiepedia page also says Gosta "had taken a shine" to her, so...
-Idk how old Elli was in the Phasma novel, but for the sake of this headcanon I'm gonna say she's late-ish teens, (Probably 16 or 17), old enough that it makes sense for her to be a fully-fledged stormtrooper (if she graduated early, maybe? Idk), but not so old that it'd be weird.
-Also the Scyre isn't at all homophobic, they'd just be worried about how they'd have kids, because they had so few and it was so hard for them to have them. But yeah, they'd be 100% supportive because they may have had a population crisis, but they aren't savages.
-In a pride-month headcanon post, I mentioned Phasma is demi aroace, and that she has only ever been attracted to one person, everyone's favorite ginger general, Armitage Hux (not to be confused with his father, everyone's LEAST favorite ginger general, Brendol Hux).
-I also headcanon her brother Keldo as somewhere on the ace and/or aro spectrums. Not exactly sure where tho.
-Torben can pick everyone up, even Phasma. He also gives amazing hugs.
-Despite being the serious one, Keldo likes pulling pranks involving his prosthetic leg (i.e. he pretends to freak out when his leg gets 'cut off').
-For some reason whenever I read the Phasma novel I would imagine Siv wearing a flower crown, even tho there weren't any flowers in the Scyre territory. Maybe it's because she was the clan's medic? Idk, but she seems like the type to wear flower crowns.
-Keldo is overprotective of Phasma, and is kinda standoffish to Hux at first, because he's worried he's more like his dad than he actually is. But he warms up to him after a bit.
-Also I think it would be super cool if in an AU where Hux joined the Scyre, he had a celtic aesthetic. Celtic and viking cultures are/were very similar, and because he's space-irish, it makes sense.
-Great, now I've gotta draw that. Add it to the pile I guess :P
-This isn't even a headcanon, it's just regular canon, but Carr is an absolute goofball. Probably likes puns.
-✨️Shieldmaiden Frey✨️
-✨️Viking Witch Torbi✨️
-Great, two more things that I gotta draw. Add it to the pile.
Anyway, once the mermaid/siren AU comes out I'll post a link here on Tumblr.
