Mark making traps: hello Jake you are a pimp who has contributed to the suffering of hundreds of women. In order to survive this trap you must progress through seven traps which symbolize the seven layers of Hell in Dantes Inferno, each room requiring you to face the symbolic vengeance of your victims and cut off your own dick and if the Goddesses approve you will live. or else you will fucking die of being eaten by starving rats.
Amanda making traps: Hello Sam you pissed me off. There is no way out of this trap. Cut your own hands off and then kill yourself.
John making traps: hello Paul you have to rip out your own teeth in 45 seconds or you will be slowly ripped apart on my rack inspired by the Spanish Inquisition. Now you will think twice about being suicidal.

rating how much i think the members of The Guild would enjoy the Bass Pro Shop Pyramid
Francis Scott Fitzgerald — 2/10
the pyramid cumulatively cost around $300 million, if my memory serves me, so he’d probably appreciate it a little bit. other than that, he would literally never go because his darling Zelda wouldn’t enjoy it.
Louisa May Alcott — 2/10
get this sweet girl out of this strange ass pyramid Right Fucking Now. she’s said to be terrified of heights, so she’d hate the balcony and the elevator. she might enjoy some of the candy they sell there (and maybe the wax melts) but other than that, she’d just patiently wait to go home.
Herman Melville — 10/10
this is an old man whose life’s greatest passion is fishing. he’d fucking adore that place.
Edgar Allan Poe — 7.3/10
this might be controversial but listen guys. listen to me. this man owns a pet raccoon. he’s a professional sniper. he’s going to have a healthy amount of respect for the damn pyramid. plus, due to it being so damn large, there wouldn’t be many chittering crowds to annoy him. and i know it was said that he has a fear of heights, but considering that he spent that time off the Moby Dick scheming and releasing classified documents and the fact that he’s a sniper (requiring being positioned in high-up locations) i’m pretty sure his ass was lying. he still wouldn’t go up the elevator and onto the balcony though because those are crowded and loud places. also some guy claimed that the pyramid was a front for a cult (false) and that there was a crystal skull placed at the top at some point (true) and i think he’d really fuck with that kind of lore.
H.P. Lovecraft — 0/10
would be a 10/10 if the staff let him take a power nap at the bottom of the alligator enclosure. but alas
John Steinbeck — 10/10
this is a man of the country. get his ass in the Bass Pro Shop Pyramid this instant. besides i think he’d enjoy taking all his siblings there and letting them look around and have fun. family bonding
Lucy Maud Montgomery — 3/10
i really don’t think she’d enjoy it all that much tbh. though i do believe she walks outta there with a stuffed moose 100%
Mark Twain — 12/10
he is HOME. he’s looking at all the gun accessories and products available, Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn floating around him and giving their own commentary. also you cannot convince me that he didn’t work at his local Bass Pro Shop when he was a teenager. he was employee of the month always.
Margaret Mitchell — 7.8/10
if you’re from the south, you enjoy the pyramid. enough said.
Nathaniel Hawthorne — 4/10
tbh he’d probably be very indifferent. the only reason it’s not lower is because Margaret had a good time

IF JESUS HAD DIED IN 2000
Paul would be writing his various letters* in the 2020's *the letters that most scholars consider genuine; Galatians, 1 Thessalonians, 1-2 Corinthians, Romans, Philipians & Philemon - a generation later and having never known Jesus in person
Gospel of Mark won't be written until around the 2030's - with no claims of Jesus' virgin birth, ascension and divinity
Gospel of Matthew won't be written until around the 2040's - with the first record of virgin birth, Bethlehem origin, guards & angel at tomb
Gospel of Luke won't be written until around the 2050's - with the first record of a post-resurrection Jesus eating, appearing & disappearing and ascension to heaven
Gospel of John won't be written until around the 2060's - with the first record of the incarnation of Jesus (god-man), divinity claims of Jesus, the seven "I am" sayings of Jesus and Jesus' lengthy discourse with Pilate
This sure sounds like something that people just made up.

Fun fact please?
Today You Learned about Shion/Shony.
[Wikipedia’s article is under ‘Seonaidh’, but I read about it under the name ‘Shion’ in Mark Williams’s book.]
So, in the early 1700’s book A Description of the Western Islands of Scotland by Martin Martin (yes, that is his name) describes an annual nighttime ritual on the Isle of Lewis, in the Hebrides, in which the local church community would get together, pick someone to hold a cup of ale, and then wade into the water and dump it in while declaring it an offering to Shion or Shony to have a prosperous harvest. Now Marty-Mart thought that this was a holdover from an old pagan religion. It was popularly believed by scholars that ‘Shion’ must have been some old Celtic deity of the sea, whose cult was long forgotten, but that this one little island off the coast of Scotland remembered, if only for this one little holiday. Wikipedia even calls this ‘likely’, though it doesn’t have a citation for that sentence.
Welp. Probably not, according to Mark Williams.
In his book Ireland’s Immortals, Mark Williams talks about Marty-Mart’s records, and his own research. He also brings up that acclaimed scholar Ronald Hutton (famous debunker of New Age nonsense) independently came to the same conclusion, and that is this: this probably isn’t a pre-Christian ritual that survived. This is probably a pre-Reformation ritual that survived. After all, ‘Seonaidh’ is close to the Scottish Gaelic form of ‘Johnny’, in the same way that ‘Sean’ is the Irish take on ‘John’. Williams suggests that, given there are a ton of weird little festivals for saints all over the world, and the prominence of water, this is probably a ritual feast celebration to Saint John the Baptist, and it somehow survived the Reformation in this remote corner of Scotland.
A bit weird, but I hope it’s a good Fun Fact.

It has been a while since I last posted but I figured I’d post some stained glass windows that I have encountered. A portion of the glass here are from the Reading Public Museum and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The vast majority are from Episcopal Churches which I’ll tag to save space.

KISS - Then, now, forever.
Members of KISS's legendary musical journey.
Some had brief roles but they still played a vital role in the historical rise of the band that claims to be and continues to be "the best".
No offense to many of the members and the millions of fans out there, (especially here on Tumblr) but I STILL feel the best lineup of KISS was the original 4 that started it all:
Ace Frehley (space ace)
Gene Simmons (the demon)
Paul Stanley (star child)
and
Peter Criss (the catman).

Okay I really want to hear your thoughts because I always thought the Naked Youth was John Mark Patron Saint of Cowards for no real reason other than 1) its only found in his gospel and 2) he's the patron saint of cowards lol
i get the appeal of judas x jesus, definitely but you guys are sleeping on john the apostle x jesus. like john? john the beloved? john, the disciple whom jesus loved? now there was leaning on jesus' bosom one of disciples whom jesus loved? the only one specifically mentioned to be present during his crucifixion? the apostle of love?
idk there is something so intimate about how throughout the gospel of john, this 'disciple whom jesus loved' keeps getting mentioned like "then peter, turning about, seeth the disciple whom jesus loved following" or during jesus' crucifixion where "when jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved", but it's never explicitly mentioned that it's john. this phrase keeps getting mentioned again and again, in the end of the gospel of john, it's implied the beloved is like "it is this disciple who testifies to these things and has written them, and we know that his testimony is true." the writer of the gospel of john, so the guy that's identifying himself as the beloved disciple is john the evangelist, who is believed to be john the apostle (not confirmed but most popular belief). like think of this, john is not even named in the gospel, he refers to himself anonymously as the disciple whom jesus loved. little hints all over like the closing sentiment with the testimony and stuff. AAA like damn.
also. scholars keep arguing over whether jesus and john the beloved's relationship could be seen as homoerotic. legitimate thing, christopher marlowe was on trial for blasphemy for claiming that "st john the evangelist was bedfellow to christ and leaned always on his bosom" like come on. think about them.

Cryptids & Creatures of Folklore Drawtober Day 22 — Dingonek
Big game hunter John Alfred Jordan and his hunting party claimed to have witnessed a truly bizarre creature near Lake Victoria in 1907. Jordan described the creature as follows:
"Holy saints, but he was a sight, fourteen or fifteen feet long, head big as that of a lioness but shaped and marked like a leopard, two long white fangs sticking down straight out of his upper jaw, back broad as a hippo, scaled like an armadillo, but colored and marked like a leopard, and a broad fin tail, with slow, lazy swishes of which he was easily holding himself level in the swift current, headed up stream.
Gad! but he was a hideous old haunter of a nightmare, was that beast-fish, that made you want an aeroplane to feel safe of him..."
More reports of the creature, called the Dingonek, were made by other European explorers to the area as well as the local people over the years but little has been heard of the "jungle walrus" in recent years.

François-Joseph Navez (Belgian, 1787-1869) The Incredulity of Saint Thomas, 1823 Thomas the Apostle—often referred to as “Doubting Thomas”—was one of the twelve main disciples of Jesus Christ. In the Gospel of John, Thomas famously doubted Jesus’ resurrection, telling the other disciples, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe” (John 20:25). Jesus then appeared and offered to let him do just that. Upon seeing Jesus in the flesh with his own eyes (and possibly touching the wounds), Thomas proclaimed, “My Lord and my God!” (John 20:28). Jesus responded with one of the most powerful and prophetic statements about faith in all of Scripture: “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed” (John 20:29).

I am die hard on the idea that Mark 16:9-20 shouldn't be in our Bibles. Not even for like purity reasons (as I said, I like John 8). It's for literary reasons. The original ending just makes more sense verses to me then the longer version.
My NKJV Bible commentary disagrees with me but what do they know lo *shrugs*. (Example: Same commentary believes in the rapture.)
"Oh Mark wouldn't end his gospel on a note of fear" Yes he would. He told me himself. He would.
Also Mark? John Mark? Notorious coward? The boy who abandoned Jesus - naked? Who abandoned Paul?? Who according to tradition got his information from Peter - whoc cowardly denied Jesus 3 times??
I think John Mark - Patron Saint of the Afraid - knows a thing or two about fear and the horror of God's presence.
Anyway, these are just my thoughts
Question: @/christian tumblr, what are yalls thoughts on John 8? Specifically the section that is apparently not there in the original manuscript that was added later (the story of Jesus and the woman caught in adultery)?
My personal conviction is that it doesn't matter if it was in the original or not because it perfectly makes sense for something like this to have happened even if it didn't; it's not a contradiction of anything so I have no reason to question it. In fact, it supports the narrative greatly.
That said, anyone else have any thoughts??

Algy extracted the presents from his Christmas stocking in amazement, and with great delight, for Father Christmas had not only brought him a nice warm scarf to keep his fluffy neck warm in the wild west Highland winter, and a tiny puppet to play with, but also a wonderful painting set of his very own, complete with watercolour paints, paint brushes and a very smart little sketchbook – and, in accordance with tradition, a wee apple, clementine and walnut nestled into the toe of the stocking.
As Algy gazed at all his presents, he hoped very much that all his friends around the world who celebrated Christmas had also received lovely gifts, but he knew that sadly there would be many people who would be cold and hungry and lonely today, and he thought of an old Christmas carol, hoping very much that some kind friend would help those folk in need:
Good King Wenceslas look’d out, On the Feast of Stephen; When the snow lay round about, Deep, and crisp, and even: Brightly shone the moon that night, Though the frost was cruel, When a poor man came in sight, Gath’ring winter fuel. “Hither page and stand by me, If thou know’st it, telling, Yonder peasant, who is he? Where and what his dwelling?” “Sire, he lives a good league hence. Underneath the mountain; Right against the forest fence, By Saint Agnes’ fountain.” “Bring me flesh, and bring me wine, Bring me pine-logs hither: Thou and I will see him dine, When we bear them thither.” Page and monarch forth they went, Forth they went together; Through the rude wind’s wild lament, And the bitter weather. “Sire, the night is darker now, And the wind blows stronger; Fails my heart, I know now how, I can go no longer.” “Mark my footsteps, good my page; Tread thou in them boldly; Thou shalt find the winter’s rage Freeze thy blood less coldly.” In his master’s steps he trod, Where the snow lay dinted; Heat was in the very sod Which the Saint had printed. Therefore, Christian men, be sure, Wealth or rank possessing, Ye who now will bless the poor, Shall yourselves find blessing.
[Algy is singing Good King Wenceslas by the 19th century English writer and priest John Mason Neale.]
