*At the end of a meeting with the centurions and students of the scalomancer*
Ty: Alexander! I wanted to thank you for your work as Consul, having a person like me in such an important position, promoting laws that include us and showing the rest of the shadowhunters what we are capable of... It's something I never thought possible before you.
Alec: It's a pleasure to serve the Clave as someone who is gay, we are just as capable of do a good job as
Ty: I was talking about the autism... But being gay is also cool

Alec vs spiders
Apparently it is book canon that Alec is arachnophobic. And, Alec being scared of spiders and just. dodging away from them, is super cute and funny.
But I ask you to consider this:
Alec sees spiders as his mortal enemy.
Spiders aren't just simply feared, they are hated with a passion.
If Alec spots a spider, it's "bye bye" for the poor eight legged creature. Spiders are killed without hesitation or mercy, and with extreme prejudice.
When it comes to spiders, Alec goes from calm and cool and collected head of the institute, to uncompromising killing machine in 0.5 seconds.
Magnus just reading a book, sitting in a comfy chair, when suddenly a knife flies by him, imbedding itself in the wall. There was a tiny spider crawling along there. (but don't worry, Alec is very good at knife throwing, he would have never risked hurting Magnus. He knew the knife would be far enough away from his love)
It's one of the reasons why the institute is so clean. No one wants their leader throwing knives and shooting arrows and launching room-wide gas attacks if a spider managed to slip into a crack somewhere.
Once someone came across Alec in the hall, while Alec was fully geared up with all the weapons he could possibly carry on his person.
When asked if he was headed for a mission, Alec said: "There is a spider nesting in the archives. It has bred. The fight will be glorious."
Magnus doing inventory on his apothecary. "Hmm, seems I'm running low on spider legs..."
Alec with an unholy glint in his eye: "Say no more." brandishes weapons and goes hunting
