On todays episode of "Doctor Spencer Reid is Autistic" we have:

Spencer showing empathy by telling Kate his own personal experience with loss !! Autistic people often show empathy by relating to other people's ails because a lot of the time people with ASD can't show empathy like a quote on quote normal person would.

Y'know I see the second part of this scene posted alot- I mean it's high-key iconic and so funny lmao but the context makes it an surprisingly sweet scene actually. The team is checking an planecrash up so that obviously triggers Kate, and because Spencer sees her she is pretty much put on a spot where she has to share WHY this affects her so much (remember what this job is.) and because of that, she doesn't wants Spencer or anyone else to act as she is made of glass because of it.

So Spencer's line isn't "I had it harder than you I dunno sis 🤷🏽‍♀️" it's his way of making her know nothing would change between her and the rest of the team, just like it didn't change with him. She was put on a position where she had to sharee what she DIDN'T want to mere days (weeks?) after meeting these people, so he decided to share as well so she wouldn't feel alone and uncomfortable.

Also notice how he didn't mention that his dad left him, that is because they are talking about losing people they love-

Big personal news! I met with an AuDHD therapist who specializes in late diagnosed autism and she told me she thinks I’m definitely autistic (in addition to my adhd). It’s technically not the same as a formal assessment, but it’s still nice to have that mostly confirmed (I will probably pursue a more formal “official” diagnosis later on)!

Okay. Hotch is shown to have just as many, if not more autistic traits as Spencer Reid but the fandom ignores it because the traits he conveys aren’t ‘cutesy babifying’ parts that the fandom projects on to Reid.

(Also this happens consistently in the fandom, Prentis/JJ/Morgan/Hotch have so much character development/trauma etc but it’s brushed aside by certain parts of the fandom to focus on Reid for some odd reason)

I've been binge watching Criminal Minds (now on s6!) and I've been wondering what it would be like in a "Humans are Space Orcs" situation with them.

For example, what if they got Reid? or Hotch? I headcanon both of them to be autistic, so they're not exactly an entire representative of humanity. Aliens might not even know the diversity of the human brain.

I feel Reid will just tell them straight away he's autistic, but Hotch will be much more apprehensive (if they're able to establish communication).

But what if it were the whole team? The BAU is also not a representation of all humanity, only a small part of people who see the worst that humanity can offer.

I can already see Garcia and Reid being so excited that aliens are real, even though they've been kidnapped. Love those nerds.

Spencer Reid headcanons pt.2

part 1

-his favorite animal is the jellyfish

-garcia treats him like her own personal dress up game and he is happy to let her. she braids his hair, paints his nails, tries out makeup looks on him, etc

-he owns so many grandpa sweaters

-he's bisexual. i am choosing to believe this is canon and goes without saying but I'm saying it anyway

-sometimes he uses noise cancelling headphones while working to focus better, feel less overstimulated by noise, and let others know he doesn't want to be interrupted

-he isn't great at expressing affection verbally or in 'traditional' ways, but the BAU have caught on to how he does express it. they know that it's his way of saying "i love you" when he brings them coffee and snacks unprompted. when he tells them random facts about things he knows they like. when he stays at the office late and organizes their desks for them. when he remembers all their schedules and tasks and unnecessarily reminds them of what they have going on that day

-he eats ice

-struggles with spacial awareness and motor skills; can be very clumsy

-he is IMPOSSIBLE to beat at rock paper scissors. every member of the BAU has tried dozens of times and he wins every time. they cannot figure out how to beat him

-he eats mac n cheese with ketchup

-he has a journal where he writes his thoughts and reviews on books he reads

-he sneezes a lot

-he cracks his knuckles and fingers all the time and it drives JJ nuts. sometimes she'll just grab his hands and hold them hostage to get him to stop and it makes him laugh

-he gets shampoo in his eyes almost every time he showers

-he giggles. hes a giggler

-all his pens and pencils are covered in bite marks cuz he chews on them while he thinks
