“What about my brother?” Lisa raises an eyebrow, deep in thought.

“You mean Grant? The guy who lives in a one-room apartment and knows nothing about taking care of a fish, let alone a child?!”

“Look, I’m trying here!” Kevin snaps through clenched teeth.

“I know, I know. I’m sorry. Are we sure Annie can’t come with us? It’s never been an issue before. She loves traveling.” He reaches over and pats her hand.

“Honey, you know I would love to have her with us. She is my world just as much as yours. But it’s too dangerous for a child. It’s even risky for the two of us. Plus, as we discussed, she needs stability—to be a kid, or rather, a teenager, with all the lows and wonderful highs that come with it.”

“I find it amazing that we have so many amazing friends, associates, and family, yet we can’t find one person to ask if they’d be will—”

“What about Molly?”

They both snap their attention to the door.

“Annie! We thought you were asleep,” Kevin says, wondering how much of the conversation she had overheard.

“It’s okay, really.” She gives them a reassuring smile and approaches the table. “I know you two have been trying to keep this a secret, but I already know—and I understand. And I love you guys, but going to Pakistan isn’t on my list of destinations. London again? Sign me up!”

All three chuckle.

“I assume you mean Molly Phillips, right?” Lisa asks after a beat. Of all the people they had considered, Molly hadn’t occurred to her, but now it almost seemed painfully obvious.

“Of course! I know it’s been a while, but she’s awesome! And it’d be nice to hang with Fi!”

“And Jack?” Kevin adds with a smirk. Annie blushes.

“Yeah, I guess… but whatever.” She stammers.

“This might actually work.”

“Great!”

“Annie, we have to ask first. I actually have business in Colorado, believe it or not, in a few days—”

“I can come with you!”

“And just stay?”

“That’s part of the plan, right?” Lisa chuckles.

“Yes, but remember, she can say no. We’re asking quite a lot from someone.”

“It’ll be great. I just know it will be. Trust me.”

Ling Wen is new heavenly emperor and I ensure you she is as overworked as ever, but she does not care about heavenly officials marrying calamities anymore. First was YQY, and then Jun Wu. Xie Lian and Shi Qingxuan are really not trendstarters here.

A Friend From Another Life

Fiona stared at the sealed manila envelope lying on the table, trying to fathom what it could possibly contain. She hadn’t given Tad much thought in years. Sure, his name would pop up from time to time in the news—some tech breakthrough, an innovation he and the Star Dot Star team had created. She’d smile and think, Good for you! Then he’d retreat into her memories, and life moved on. Marriage, kids, work.

At some point in college, she had even stopped telling people she knew him personally. Half didn’t believe her, and even photographic proof was deemed staged. The other half assumed she had access to his billions. Billions. When she met him, it had only been millions.

Fiona usually despised the ultra-rich and everything they represented—especially those who hoarded wealth for themselves. But Tad was different. He had always been pure and good-hearted. She knew he and her mom were a terrible romantic match, but there was always a part of her that wished things had been different.

She had followed the updates on his health, his battle with cancer. There were moments she thought about reaching out, but she always chickened out. Would he even remember me? Would he care? In the end, she convinced herself they were just lovely memories of the past, and the last thing he needed was a random ‘best wishes, you got this!’ card from a girl he hadn’t seen in over twenty years.

Then, yesterday morning, there was a knock at the door as she finished getting ready for the day. She hadn’t thought much of it—probably an early mail drop-off, or maybe one of the kids had ignored her Stop ordering breakfast! rule again.

“Mom! It’s for you!” her daughter yelled.

Fiona sighed, yanking on her top and hurrying downstairs, half-expecting to face the neighbor who constantly complained about her sons daring to play basketball in their own driveway.

Instead, when she reached the open door, she saw a man in a suit that probably cost more than her car, standing there, near emotionless, holding a manila envelope.

“Yes? May I help you?” she asked with a polite smile.

“I have a delivery from Tad Raxall.”

“Tad? Really?! How is he?”

The man’s expression didn’t change. “I’m sorry to inform you that Mr. Raxall passed away late last night.” He extended the envelope toward her. “Apologies, but I have several more of these to deliver before the news of his death is announced.”

“…Okay,” Fiona barely managed to get out before he turned and left.

Then life took over—the kids started yelling, her husband broke a coffee mug, someone needed something, and the envelope got pushed aside.

Now, over twenty-four hours later, with Tad’s death dominating the news, Fiona was finally ready to face whatever mystery lay inside.

Or at least, she thought she was. She continued to stare at it.

“Get it together and just do it.”

Taking a deep breath, she broke the seal and pulled out a single sheet of paper and a memory card.

Dear Fiona,

Sorry for the silence all these years. We both seem to have been busy. I wanted to express my gratitude for your friendship back then. I hope that doesn’t sound too creepy.

I also owe you an apology.

Everything is true.

All those things you believed in—the site you used to run, the theories you spoke about—all of it. You were right, and it goes far deeper than you could ever imagine.

The government occasionally declassifies something, leaks a video to whet the public’s appetite for the unknown. That’s nothing. A scratch on the surface.

And I’m sorry to tell you this, but they had your father killed. And likely countless others.

On this memory card is proof. You deserve to know.

Now, what you do with this is up to you. But if you’re smart, you’ll destroy it without ever looking at it.

Be careful. You’re the only one I trust with this.

the ducklings shake their heads or roll their eyes but when wilson comes in later for his own cup -- because whatever the diagnostics team does with their coffee is more palatable than anywhere else in the building -- they all try to get a glimpse out of sheer morbid curiosity. house snorts into his mug when he sees them all, which catches wilson's attention, but when he looks they are Very Aggressively Not Looking At Him. foreman and cameron at picking through case files (cameron is holding hers up to her face so her blush is hidden) and chase is staring Very Hard at his crossword.

then wilson shakes his head, goes, "actually, i don't wanna know" before he turns to house with a "see you at lunch?"

house purrs out that "it's a date" which just has wilson scoffing out a laugh on his way out

for as much as we all joke that Mickey forgot Aqua was in the realm of darkness for 10 years, that's not actually true.

he lost track of her for 10 years. he found her again by sheer accident when he ran in there during the events of KH1. he couldn't go back to save her because he had to shut the door, was trying to help Riku get out of his own predicament, and learned about the organization and what they were doing. he spent a year doing who knows what, ill give you that, but there was a LOT of critical things going on immediately after he learned where Aqua was. bro needs a little leeway, if anything, more people should be mad at yen sid for telling Mickey not to mention Aqua. was it a weird as fuck choice? yes. but "he forgot Aqua for 10 years" is a very far cry from what actually happened
