How would Dame feels about a MC that feels bad for hephaestus and thinks that he deserves better?
Ares: "Like... The guy was abused and forgotten by his family. Nobody loved him and he helped us all through so much. We should say sorr-"
Dame: "Get out of my bed, I need to rethink my life choices."

why does Rick Riordan hate the original myths so bad 💀
the Asphodel stuff?? regret? where is that coming from? you fully just made that shit up? out of his ass fr. the fields of Asphodel are specifically an area of neutrality, where the pretty much all mortals go when they die. it's for anyone who lived a normal life, who isn't a hero or a literal monster. it's specifically a neutral zone for people to exist once they die, it has nothing to do with ~your regrets in life~. it's like, a peaceful field of flowers where all your life's troubles are left behind on the surface.
the closest things to that is the fields of mourning/sorrow, but that's specifically for unrequited romantic love and also not called the fields of Asphodel (and also I'd bet money that rr doesn't know what that is) (and also only in Virgil's The Aeneid and not the Odyssey with the rest of what we know of the underworld)

the more i think about the gods the more i realise they have always been with me.
Hephaestus was with me, brimming with excitement, as I grinned at my projects in wood work. Poseidon has been with me since my birth when i was born under the warm water of a bathtub and he has been with me every single time i went to the beach and felt such a distinct calling to the ocean. Demeter was with me as i played in the mud and played pretend in the forest as a child and now as i go for walks through nature. Aphrodite is holding my hand every step of the way as i try and find myself. it was her arms i cried into after every break up. she is tucking my hair back and adjusting my clothes as i look in the mirror and feel confident. she is swimming with me and Poseidon at the beach. she calls me to her birthplace like a moth to flame. Apollo has embraced me every time i smile up with the sun on my face. he grinned at me every time i thanked someone for saying my hair looked nice in the sun. it was his arms that held me upright through every performance and it is he who dances with me every time i dance around my house. Zeus is there when my breath catches as thunder strikes above me. He danced with me and my brother and my mum in the rain when i was a child. Athena is rocking out to bikini kill and green day with me. she lives through me in the rage i feel at the world. i feel her embrace when i get excited about finally understanding my maths work. she holds my hand through every exam. it is Hestia’s arms who cradle me when i am warm and cosy in my bed. she embodies the feeling of waking up when its chilly outside but im warm under my blanket. she is with me when i smell the candles i light. Hera sits beside me and grins over my shoulder when i look at wedding ideas on pinterest. she is the one cooing at baby pictures with me when i get bad bouts of baby fever. she is cradling me in her arms when i hear my parents argue and i feel scared. Artemis is watching curiously as i freeze for a moment when i see wildlife on girl guide camp. she is the complete awe on the younger girls faces when we see a kangaroo in the distance or a cool bug on the ground. she and her brother are adjusting my posture and footing when i hold a bow and aim for a target. she is the happiness i feel when i look up and see a bright moon. she is giggling at baby videos with me and Hera during my days of baby fever. Persephone is the giddy smile on my face when i realise its Spring! its finally my birthday season and i couldn’t be happier. she is holding my hand and laughing herself silly as my friends and i try and figure out the weather during school. she is sitting calmly with me as i weave flowers together to put in my hair. Hades is in the drop of my heart when i feel my life flash before my eyes. he embraces me when i am trying to wrap my head around the concept of death. he holds my friends close when they experience loss. Ares is alive and well in my mind as i type a snarky response to someone i cannot stand online. he is with me, cheering me on as i start arguments and fight for my beliefs. Hermes grins over my shoulder as i receive money for my birthday. he is with me when my father and i watch Italian telenovelas so we can learn Italian together. he embraces me when i am anxious about travelling or going somewhere. it is his arms that hold me close and soothe my panic as i realise how far away from home i am.
I have always felt the gods around me. I have just never been able to put a word to the feelings I feel. I cherish their love so much ❤️

Some of my Favourite Headcanons Related to Greek Gods' Appearences
Zeus has could-like hair and beard;
Poseidon has sea foam-like hair and beard;
If you go by Hesiod's version on Aphrodite's birth then she technically doesn’t have a belly button;
Athena has olive skin (interpret this however you want);
Giving ancient greeks' beliefs on readheads I find the idea of Persephone having red hair appealing too;
Since Hephaestus is sometimes considered to be fatherless it makes sense for him to physically resemble Hera a lot;
All the sun deities (including Apollo) have a tan and/or are dark-skinned;
Artemis looks like Leto and that's part of the reason why Hera seems to despise her more than Apollo (take that moment from the Iliad for example);
Demeter looks like Rhea the most;
Hestia's skin is always warm and smells like something burned/overcooked;
Dionysus has purple, grape-like eyes;
Hermes is a little shorter than the rest of the gods and he's usually wearing his flying sandals even when it's not necessary so that he could reach other people's height;
Ares never heals his war scars completely, so that he would look more intimidating;
All of Hera's children have "cow-like" eyes;
Hades has a poor personal hygiene;

Is it okay if I ask what type of s/o would the Gods be into? I find that really interesting and would like to hear your opinion since I really love your writing <3<3
This request came just right, bc I really want to write but I'm mad busy rn, and this was a lot of fun! so I kinda wrote for ... everyone.
If you're conventionally attractive, you are in Zeus' dating pool. You're exceptionally beautiful? I'm so sorry. Once he has set his eyes on you, you are not safe anywhere. There is no other factor that matters, except maybe if you're exceptionally hospitable and kind to guests, which might attract his attention. Which is not a good thing.
Poseidon would love someone unpredictable, someone who never gets boring and never fails to surprise him or catch him off guard. He'd love the excitement of it all and is generally pulled to exciting and outgoing people, but also people who are more introverted but break out of their shell at unexpected times.
If Hades had a type, it would for sure be someone a little more ... alive than him. He's clearly going for that opposites attract thing, just look at Persephone. Also, I reckon he'd like someone who can stand up for themselves, as standing up to his brothers was always very hard for him and he would admire you greatly for it.
Demeter would like someone who is humble, orderly and respectful and appreciative of the beauties of nature. Someone who finds joy in the little things and never fails to call their grandma for her birthday.
To be honest- you don't have a romantic chance with neither Hera nor Athena, Artemis or Hestia. Though I thought it would be fun to make some platonic headcanons for what kind of mortal they would take interest in in a platonic way.
Hera admires loyalty, it doesn't even have to be to a spouse, it can also be your family or friends. Also, she appreciates people who remain strong even in the face of long term hardships or anguish, and it might earn you her favor. It's not that she pities you, but that she admires your strength to keep fighting. Also, she'd love to talk shit about men with you as much as the next goddess...
Artemis isn't about the whole opposites attract thing. As with Orion, she is likely to make friends with someone who shares her interests, as she also surrounds herself with her huntresses. She loves to talk about hunting and the wild and would like someone who isn't afraid to get themselves dirty. If you're a guy, it's pretty hard to get in her good grades though.
Athena is all in for academic weapons. Critical thinkers, challenging the status quo and earning great archivements. Someone she could have an intellectual conversation with, who offers new points of argument and is able to hold their own in an argument, she is the goddess of warfare after all...
I don't think there is anyone Hestia doesn't like, though she would favor people who spend a lot of time with their family and are kind and hospitable to others. Kindness to strangers is something she very much appreciates.
Apollo doesn't really have a type. His mortal lovers are symbolic for his creative inspirations, so he would not settle for a type but be all over the board. The variety of his lovers concludes that Apollo isn't looking for a specific kind of person. He simply watches or spends time with someone and BAM he's completely and utterly in love. He does love himself an artsy spouse though.
Ares needs someone calm and peaceful- it might seem a little contradictory, but Ares needs someone to ground him, to listen to him and provide the calm for his storm. Actually, he's all for domesticity, though a hot love affair doesn't turn him away either. If his spouse had a strong personality and could stand up for themselves, he would really respect that, but he would also be your guard dog if that wasn't the case. Ares just needs someone to love him unconditionally, quite like the next god on the list.
Not to be disrespectful but Hephaestus does not care who you are, he's just happy with someone who treats him with dignity. Be kind to him and he is putty in your hands. After all his family put him through, he'd also appreciate someone to rant about them to, who can also sit in silent understanding with him at other times. But honestly, he isn't setting the bar very high.
Not to call her vain, but you would have to be insanely beautiful to be on Aphrodites radar. She simply considers herself too good to spend her time on anyone who isn't pleasing to her eye- and that really cuts down the pool of potential lovers. Also, she would only stay around for someone who is ready to give their full attention to her at all times, she is a very demanding lover.
I think Hermes would want someone who is able to keep up with him, but also root him when he overdoes it a little. It would take quite a lot for him to actually stick around, because for him to make time in his busy schedule, he'd have to be head over heels in love.
Dionysus would probably not have a specific type either, simply because he wouldn't want to cut short his dating pool. Though he would like someone who is able to let loose at least sometimes and surrender to his pull of madness and ecstasy.
Extra: Eros would mostly go for someone attractive, but he wouldn't let that be the only factor. Just as the unpredictable and surprising nature of his arrows, Eros could fall for anybody, picking out a trait he loves about them and obsessing over it for the day (I'm thinking 'Someone New' by Hozier if you know what I mean).

Immortal Danger II
Apollo x wife!Reader
Summary: Despite an extravagant wedding, Apollo is still confronted by those who want to end his marriage
Warning: Smut; Ares, Demeter, and Phobos slander; attempted assault; alcohol consumption and mentions of underage drinking; probably some ancient greek wedding inaccuracies
Word Count: 5k
Part 1 | Masterlist
Tumblr media
Apparently a wedding in Vegas wasn’t good enough for my mother because I found myself in her green house mansion on Olympus being lectured and listening to her berate Apollo.
“Dem, we’re all adults here,” my husband tried to reason.
“She isn’t even a century old!” Demeter cried in exasperation.
“Twenty-four is considered an adult on earth,” I offered. “Didn’t Persephone run off with Hades when she was seventeen?”
“Oh don’t even get me started on him!” my mother ranted. “What is with you gods and my daughters?” Apollo opened his mouth but she just held a hand up, silencing him. “No! I don’t want to hear all the perverted things you think about her.”
“When did you become such a prude, Dem? My father told me all about your wild days.” If Apollo could die he’d be trapped in Tartarus right now based on the glare she sent him.
“A ‘Vegas’ wedding officiated by a mortal is not a real wedding. I won’t have you two living in sin.”
“Well we’ve been ‘sin-’”
I clamped a hand over Apollo’s mouth, silencing him. “Firstly, with all due respect… Mother, you have the wrong religion there.”
“Well we don’t have set moral codes like Christians do!” she cried. “Urgh you’re both so infuriating. You two are going to have a proper, traditional wedding. You,” she looked pointedly at me, “will be staying here until your wedding because I don’t want you,” she turned her glare to Apollo, “defiling her more than you already have.”
I shared a glance with Apollo who appeared to share my sentiments. “Fine,” I agreed. “As long as the wedding occurs within a month.”
“And after you are married you will stay here. Apollo can visit you but that’s it. No spending nights at his home or going out to sneak around,” Demeter insisted.
“Mother!” I immediately chastised.
“Demeter!” my now fiancé cried simultaneously. “That’s unreasonable. I know you think of her as your baby and you’re afraid you’re going to lose her like Persephone but she’s my wife. She’ll be my wife again. You can’t treat her like an untrustworthy teenager. Besides, you know as well as I do that according to tradition, the marriage isn’t legitimate unless we live together.”
“Well then you may as not get married at all!” Demeter offered sarcastically.
“Mother, it’s not as if I’m disappearing or we’re just fooling around. I love him,” I professed, looking back at Apollo with a smile.
He returned it before standing up to confront my mom. “Y/N’s right, we’re not just fooling around. After all, we’re already married.
She only rolled her eyes before giving a sigh of defeat. “Be ready for the wedding. Hera, Aphrodite, and I will be planning it,” she said with an accusatory finger before disappearing.
~
Two weeks later and my mother had managed to pull together a wedding she deemed acceptable. She had wanted to hold it a century from now but I forced her hand. But in preparations for the wedding, I met all the gods. Except for Ares they were all excited for me. Even Aphrodite who had reprimanded Ares when he got aggressive.
“You know, it’s not too late to join the Hunt,” Artemis offered again as she braided my hair back for the wedding. Ever since we met she has been trying to convince me to dump her brother and swear him and all other men off for forever.
“Artemis!” Aphrodite whined from across the room. “Stop putting ideas in her head. Why do you hate true love?”
“Don’t you have a husband that isn’t Ares?” Artemis quipped.
“That’s different,” she claimed, standing up from the sofa she was lounging on. “That was not true love.”
“And don’t you have dozens of children that are neither Hephaestus’ nor Ares’?”
“Ugh what do you know?” Aphrodite scoffed. She stood on front of me, stooping down to make eye contact. “Y/N, don’t listen to her. You and Apollo are meant to be, I know it. And running around in the woods for eternity won’t bring you joy. Do you really want to camp with a bunch of 12 year old girls for the rest of eternity? It’d be like… well… being stuck at Camp Half-Blood for all eternity.”
I chuckled, appreciating both the goddesses’ efforts. “Thanks for the assurance Aphrodite and thanks for the offer Artemis. If he pisses me off enough in like 500 years then I may take you up on your offer.”
Hera then entered wearing a traditional chiton. “Today’s the gamos!” she said excitedly as she entered. She seemed shockingly excited considering I was marrying her husband’s bastard. “Aphrodite, put a beauty charm on her and then get her in her dress.” She then left after barking orders much like my mother.
Both goddesses complied and soon enough I was dressed in an extravagant chiton, decorated in gold, and with a lace veil over my face. They led me to an enormous dining hall decorated in white and gold, the gorgeous ceiling enchanted to reflect the sky outside, depicting the stars and the moon. As I was looking around in awe, I caught Apollo’s smile. Upon noticing my attention was directed at him, he raised his glass to me which I recognized as his attempt to compliment me.
According to Athenian tradition, the bride wasn’t supposed to have contact with the groom until the unveiling ceremony but there was a feast beforehand.
I was sat where Apollo couldn’t see me so I was fortunately allowed to eat. On my plate was a square of ambrosia and with just a wave of my hand it turned into a proper wedding dish.
As I was chatting with Artemis and some of her hunters—who wanted to sit as far from the male guests as possible—Hera and Demeter came flitting up next to me. “It’s time for the unveiling ceremony!” Hera gushed.
“It’s not too late to back out,” Demeter offered again. “You don’t have to swear things off with Apollo but you can at least postpone,” she pleaded hopefully.
I looked up at her sympathetically. I knew she just wanted to have her daughter to herself but I couldn’t help but be reminded of the half-blood daughters that were never this important to her. “Mother, I want this,” I informed her earnestly again. “I love Apollo and he loves me too. I’m ready to begin my immortal life with him.”
“Demeter, I know there are a lot of feelings here but we have to go,” Hera tried to calm her sister before flipping the veil back over my head and ushering me from my seat. I complied until I reached the grand entrance of the hall. Stood in the doorway was Apollo also in a traditional chiton. Just past him, awaiting us outside was the chariot that would take us to his home.
I stepped up closer to him, smiling up at him as he beamed down at me. He literally was the sun personified and I couldn’t wait to spend eternity with him.
If there were any formal rituals associated with the unveiling ceremony they had either been long since forgotten or Apollo didn’t care because he took a more modern approach. After a whispered, “I love you,” he took the veil and flipped it over my head before gently placing one hand on my jaw, the other on my waist before kissing me deeply. Much like modern Christian ceremonies.
Although, the kiss wasn’t very Christian as it was deep and passionate and Apollo seemed reluctant to end it. Every time he pulled away slightly it was just to connect our lips deeper again. He only pulled away when a shout came from Hermes. “You’re not in your bedchambers yet!”
Apollo pulled away with a laugh while I flushed with embarrassment. Upon noticing me, he pulled me closer with a laugh whilst I buried my face in his shoulder. I could feel his deep, joyful laugh as he turned to address the room. “The sun may be up a lot later tomorrow morning!” he announced to the room.
I groaned against his shoulder, pushing him towards the chariot. As he stepped away from me, he grabbed my hand. He helped me up onto the chariot before stepping up himself. As soon as he was stood firmly behind me, I urged the horses forward.
As we proceeded out, all of our guests appeared along the path all the way to Apollo’s home. Used to all the praise and attention, Apollo waved to other other deities as they cheered us on, with me tucked under his arm trying not to fall out of the chariot.
As we reached the grand entrance of the mansion, we finally had some privacy. The sun god helped me down from the chariot again, before sweeping me off my feet. “And now, we will enter our home, cementing our marriage,” he explained with a smile.
I giggled, wrapping my arms around his neck as he carried me through the magically opened doors. He didn’t even bother to pretend to want to celebrate that we were married now, he immediately carried me up towards the bedroom. “You’re going to hate your mother for not letting me see you for two weeks because tonight I’m making up for not fucking you for that time,” he explained eagerly.
As he went the doors opened automatically until he was placing me on the middle of the bed. He followed, kneeling on the bed with a leg on either side of my hips, looking down at me. I began unfastening the bindings of my chiton but Apollo just snapped his fingers and I was in white lingerie. Before I could comprehend what happened, he tore the bralette off of me as his lips found mine. As he kissed me, I could feel his warm hands on my breasts, fondling them and teasing my nipples.
Soon enough his lips were leaving mine and trailing down my neck and chest until one of my nipples was in his mouth. I let out a soft moan as I felt his tongue swirl around me. He moved to the other breast, simultaneously sliding his other hand to my panties which I now realized were entirely lace as there was virtually nothing in between his fingers and my pussy.
As his thumb found my clit and his mouth continued the assault on my breasts, I could only let out cries of pleasure. My hands found his back as I dug my nails into his skin, trying to ground myself. But one hand overstimulating my clit, the other rubbing circles around my nipple, and the other nipple still being tortured by his mouth was too much and my panties became even more soaked as I climaxed.
Upon feeling my entire body seize, Apollo pulled away from me with a satisfied smile. I stared up at him in slight wonderment. I never orgasmed that fast, I would have thought that I’d be less sensitive as a goddess. Seeing my surprise, Apollo explained with a laugh. “Now that we’re both immortal and married we’re more in tune with each other,” he explained. “It’s like our bodies are made for each other. They just react more to each other than when you were mortal.”
“So you feel it more too?” I asked. He nodded. “Good,” I smiled. I snapped my fingers and all of a sudden his chiton was gone and he was naked. Before he could react, I had pushed him to lay on the bed, my body on top of his. Much like what he had done to me prior, I gave him a brief yet deep kiss before lowering my head to his already erect cock. I met his eager gaze, holding eye contact as I grasped his cock. Stroking it a bit, I brought my mouth down on it while still maintaining eye contact. I felt his entire body shiver as I wrapped my lips around the sensitive head that was already leaking precum.
I licked at the sensitive head ever so slightly, bringing my mouth up and down his shaft the littlest bit, teasing him. But as I reached the very end of his cock, acting as if I was about to pull away, his hand shot out to my head, keeping me in place. Looking up, I found his face contorted in pleasure, the hand not tangled in my hair was gripping the sheets. “Don’t stop,” he said in a strained voice. I complied, continuing my assault on his cock. As a goddess, I no longer had to worry about a gag reflex so I could take his entire cock in my mouth, something he deeply appreciated judging by his deep groans.
I tried to keep going until he came in my mouth but his grip on my hair pulled me away. “No!” he grunted out. “I wanna cum inside you first.” He immediately flipped us so now he was on top of me but my head was nearly hanging off the foot of the bed, ripping off my lace panties in the process. He stared down hungrily at my cunt, licking his lips like a starved man. Rather than fuck me like I thought he was going to, he brought his mouth to my core. Upon feeling his mouth wrap around my core, tongue prodding at my clit, I let out more of a yell than a moan. I was so sensitive from the previous orgasm, I came directly in his mouth this time. But rather than stop there, he kept going. His tongue made its way inside my clenching hole, swirling around, making me see stars.
I was squirming around so much his hands had locked around my hips, immobilizing me. All I could do was beg him to stop as he assaulted my cunt until he finally pulled away after one more release. “I need you inside me,” I begged him as he raised himself to his knees. He smiled, eagerly complying. He pulled my hips up until they were flush with his. I brought my legs up as he did so, resting them on his shoulders as he slowly pushed inside of me.
I screamed so loudly in pleasure you’d think I was being murdered. Gods I was so sensitive from the previous orgasms and our newfound connection.
Once he was fully in me I could feel his cock twitching inside of me and I knew what that meant. He had never cum this fast but then again, never had I either. I rolled my hips into his, wanted him to feel the same pleasure I had and I could immediately feel him spill inside of me. Which made me cum around his cock, milking everything out of him.
But he didn’t pull out or soften inside of me. That was the nice thing about gods, there was no refractory period. As soon as he stopped cumming, his hips were moving again, fucking me.
I quickly became a babbling mess as he continued to fuck me through numerous orgasms each. He had me bent over, riding him, under him, every position imaginable. Sometimes he was rough, other times more gentle and loving. No matter what we did I loved every moment of it.
He only stopped when he had to go get the sun chariot ready. Despite the fact that I didn’t need to sleep anymore, I immediately passed out as soon as he left.
~
Apollo’s lips on my neck were the only things that pulled me out of the inviting grasp of sleep. I let out a groan so he knew that I was awake.
“‘Morning,” he greeted in my ear. “So today is called epaulia, it’s when everyone comes to congratulate us and bring gifts,” he explained through kisses. “I can tell them that you’re not feeling up to it today if you want. I know you’re new to immortality and last night was a lot.” I could feel his smug grin against the skin of my jaw. “But, if you choose not to see anyone then I’m warning you that you’re not leaving this bed.”
I finally peeled my eyes fully open. Fortunately the blinds around the bed had been drawn so I wasn’t blinded. I rolled over, meeting his gaze. “I know I’m immortal and as much as I would love to spend the entire day in bed with you, I think I might actually die of exhaustion if you do that to me.” A grin appeared on his face as his fingers found their way in between my legs. “Apollo,” I moaned, tossing my head back as his fingers assaulted my still puffy and throbbing clit.
“Okay,” he agreed, as if he weren’t fingering me right now. “I’ll tell them they can come over once I’m done.” He continued, his fingers fucking me to the edge of an orgasm. But before I could finish, a gong rang through the home. I jumped and Apollo pulled away. “Oh shit, I guess they came anyways.” He pressed a kiss to my cheek before jumping out of bed. “I’ll talk to them while you get dressed. Technically today is about you since epaulia is supposed to make the bride more comfortable.” I just stared at him, still a little bit flabbergasted before he disappeared.
After a minute of calming myself down, I got up. Going to the vanity I found my messy appearance. Fortunately I could just give myself a beauty charm, something Aphrodite taught me, and I looked like I hadn’t spent the night being fucked within an inch of my life. I summoned a white slip dress that was still modest enough to be worn in front of my family.
With one last look in the mirror I headed downstairs, finding several goods and goddesses standing in the foyer. As soon as they noticed my presence, several of the goddesses came flocking over to me. They were all asking about last night—questions I wouldn’t be answering considering I hardly knew them—and shoving gifts in my hands.
Seeing as I didn’t have enough hands, they all herded me towards the kitchen, lining the counters with their gifts. Eventually Apollo made his way towards me, throwing an arm around my shoulder. He addressed the crowd with ease, telling them thanks but not to crowd me. His confidence was baffling but I guess when you’ve spent centuries being adored it comes easily.
Aphrodite pushed her way through the crowd, Ares standing behind her with a glare. I retreated further into Apollo’s embrace, remembering how he was trying to kill me just two weeks ago. “Open my present,” Aphrodite gushed, oblivious to her lover’s glare.
Shaking off Ares’ intimidation, I took the pink box in my hand. “Aphrodite, do I want to open this in front of everyone?” I asked, my eyes flickering across the room of mostly strangers and meeting my mother’s scowl.
“Yes, it’s fine!” she insisted. “It’s just perfume.” I opened it reluctantly, knowing that her perfumes were love potions. I pulled it out of the box, the label informing me that it would make me irresistible.
A few other visitors presented their gifts. I was delighted by the plants that Athena, Artemis, and a few nymphs gave me. There were a few lingerie sets that I didn’t take out of the boxes and bags. As well as a few other home goods.
By the time I had gotten through the mountain of gifts, someone had pulled out the alcoholic nectar. Aphrodite quickly pushed a champagne flute of it into my hands. “Have you ever drank, Y/N?” she asked. “You were at camp a long time.”
“Um, once when I was 15 before I became a year-round camper,” I explained. “My boyfriend at the time and I-”
“Your boyfriend?” Apollo demanded in surprise, having never left my side.
“You knew about him!” I defended. “We only made out a couple times.”
“Still,” he huffed.
“I know your children. I grew up with some of them,” I pointed out.
He rolled his eyes playfully. “Yeah whatever,” he said with a pout before breaking out in a smile. “Hey, I’m gonna go talk to Hermes,” he informed, pressing a kiss to my temple. He then looked at Aphrodite. “Please don’t let her get too drunk,” he requested. “There’s a difference between mortal alcohol and god alcohol. Even Dionysus has made a fool of himself off of this stuff.”
“Don’t worry,” Aphrodite assured. “I’ll take care of her.”
He gave her an uneasy look but I just pushed him to go. “Go have fun. I’ll be fine.”
“Okay,” he said reluctantly. “I love you,” he told me before disappearing into the crowd.
I looked back at Aphrodite and she was immediately waving her hand, shots appearing on the counter. “Oh we’re getting you wasted tonight,” she laughed. I laughed with her, grabbing a shot off the counter.
“To love,” I toasted with her as she grabbed a glass.
~~
Apollo and several other gods were in the den, talking with an American football game playing when Hermes came in. “Apollo!” he called across the room, obviously a little drunk. “Your wife is fun!” he slurred.
By now all the men were looking at him. Apollo stood up, going to his friend. “What do you mean, bud?” he asked.
“Well I was going to get some food but I ended up doing shots with Y/N,” he explained enthusiastically. A few chuckles erupted from the room. New immortals were rare but when they got inebriated the first time it was always funny. “That girl can drink.”
Apollo chuckled nervously, directing his friend to the couch before going back out to the main room. Stepping into the main living space, he found Artemis with her on the couch, trying to force ambrosia into her mouth.
“Y/N, you have to either eat or I’ll force you to throw up,” he heard Artemis threaten.
“Thanks ‘Mis,” he interrupted, taking a seat on the other side of his wife. “I’ve got it from here.” His twin nodded before standing up and disappearing into the crowd.
His wife looked at him with a smile. “Sorry I got drunk,” she giggled. Apollo couldn’t help but smile. She was cute like this.
“It’s ok, I don’t blame you. Aphrodite was supposed to watch you.”
“She did this to me.”
“Yeah, well, you need to sober up a bit before you rejoin the party,” he said, taking her hand. She followed him up into a standing position but immediately tripped over herself. Catching her, Apollo held her close to help her keep her balance. “Let’s try this,” he said, before transporting them to their bedroom.
He managed to get her to the bed, sitting her down on it. Out of nowhere she gasped. “You’re trying to take advantage of a drunk girl!” she immediately erupted into giggles.
He smiled, joining her laugh. “No, you’re gonna sleep off the shots.” She huffed but agreed anyways. Apollo thanked her for her cooperation. “I’ll be downstairs. Call me if you need anything,” he said, pressing a kiss to her cheek before going back downstairs.
~~
I laid back on the bed, staring up at the windows above me. Despite the fact that there were still no clouds in the sky, it looked like it was moving. My head seemed to swim and it was as if my body was mortal again. I felt so weak now.
Just before I found the strength to roll over and go to sleep, I head the bedroom door open. “Apollo?” I called, assuming it was him. When I got no response I sat up, finding a vaguely familiar figure coming up the stairs. My vision was too hazy to see his face distinctly.
“Hey, Y/N,” the voice came.
As the figure got closer I could finally make out his face. “Phobos?” I guessed.
He smiled. “You remember me and you’re not screaming in terror,” he chuckled. I shrugged awkwardly. He sighed, sitting on the bed next to me. “Listen, uh, I'm sorry about trying to kill you. Father’s orders, y’know?”
“Uh, sure,” I agreed.
“I was hoping you could forgive me,” he requested. He kept moving his head to look into my eyes, as if willing me to agree. Fortunately for me, my vision was going in and out of focus too much for it to have any affect.
“Yeah, we could be friends,” I slurred excitedly.
“Well, I was uh… hoping we could be more than friends,” he said nervously. Before I could ask him what he meant, his lips were on mine. His hands locked onto my jaw and neck, holding me in place as I struggled.
As he tried to lay me down on the bed, I slipped out of his grasp. Literally falling onto the floor. I tried to crawl away but he was straddling my hips, pinning me down in a second. “Apollo!” I yelled, tears streaming down my face in fear.
Before I could yell again, Apollo’s face was in front of me. As if it had replaced Phobos’. “Hey, what’s wrong?” Apollo’s voice came but it sounded hollow. “It’s just me,” he assured. His lips found my neck, hand trailing up my body.
“No!” I cried. “I don’t wanna right now. I feel weird.”
“You’ll feel better,” he assured, continuing to touch me.
“Phobos!” I yelled, pushing him away, or trying to at least. “Apollo wouldn’t do this to me!” I insisted, recalling all the times when I told him I didn’t want to do anything and he backed off. “Apollo!” I screamed again, hoping he’d hear me over the talking and music.
I cried harder as his hands found the neckline of my dress. But before he could work the garment off of me, there was a flash of light and a yell. “What in Tartarus are you doing, Phobos?!” Apollo’s enraged yell came. The god on top of me immediately changed back to his original form as Apollo yanked him away.
The vague forms of other gods appeared as Apollo was still holding Phobos. A girl I recognized as Athena came rushing over to my side, making sure I was ok. “What happened?” she asked.
It was hard to explain through the alcohol and the tears but I told them about how he came up and started trying to assault me.
“It’s not like that!” Phobos insisted. “Ares told me I should try to get with her.”
“Why?” Zeus’ booming voice demanded from his son and grandson. No one answered. “Tell me or Hecate will be administering truth serums.”
An angry voice belonging to Ares answered reluctantly. “I thought that if Y/N cheated on Apollo she'd leave him for Phobos and then he’d be devastated that my son stole his wife.” There were a few murmurs and I could vaguely hear Aphrodite reprimand him. “But I didn’t tell him to force himself on her.”
Apollo started yelling, causing some of the others to start yelling until Zeus silenced them. “Enough! Ares and Phobos, you’re coming with me. Apollo, take care of your wife. Y/N,” I think I vaguely looked in his direction, “I'm sorry your epaulia was ruined and this happened to you. Everyone else out of Apollo’s home!” he yelled to the rest of the house. There were a few groans and disagreements but within a few minutes everyone had disappeared, leaving just me, my husband, and mother.
“C’mon,” he said, picking me up off the floor. I curled into him as he carried me to the bed.
Meanwhile my mother was still there, arms crossed and tapping her foot like a cartoon. “See I knew something like this would happen.”
“Dem, can we not do this now?” Apollo asked as he placed me on the bed.
“You can’t even protect her!” she continued anyways. “You knew she was vulnerable but were too busy with your friends. I knew you weren’t capable of being a husband.”
“Hey-” Apollo began.
“And you!” Demeter continued anyway. She appeared in my still hazy vision. “Getting that drunk at your own epaulia? What were you thinking? He wouldn’t have tried to force himself on you if you hadn’t been so irresponsible.”
“That’s enough, Demeter!” my husband yelled at her. “You’ve been nothing but critical ever since you found out about us. But we’re married, twice now. You can’t change that. And are you seriously blaming her for what just happened? You of all people should be sympathetic and be glad I got there when I did.”
I could hear Demeter’s huff. “Well she wouldn’t have been in danger in the first place if you never got involved.” Then there was a flash of light and she was gone.
Apollo’s sigh came before he settled down on the bed with me. “I’m so sorry that happened,” he stated, pulling me tightly into his chest. “I never should have left you alone.”
“‘S ok,” I consoled, still slurring my words. “Not your fault.”
“I love you so much,” he said, hugging me impossibly tighter. “I swear that nothing like that will ever happen again.”

Greek mythology has evolved over the course of hundreds of years, and with all those… retellings now, it’s gotten me thinking about just how many people have been spreading false details of myths through word of mouth to the point of becoming the most common interpretation, when if you were to look back in history, a great number of them were only recently made up, barely a a few centuries prior. Example of this is King Midas and his turning his daughter into a gold statue. I remember this part having been included all throughout my childhood, only to find out it was never part of the original myth but a recent addition in a book from 1852. (suddenly, the daughter being aptly named “Marigold” makes a lot more sense.) My ask is: which commonly told misconception of this type regarding any Greek myth is most infuriating to you and why?
oh my god misinformation can be INFURIATING smh
Let's start off with the Apollo misinformation.
"He raped Persephone/is a serial rapist!"
First of all, no he did not. LO, toss yourself into an eternal blaze and incinerate.
and secondly- he's not a serial rapist. There's only two accounts of rape, specifically Dryope and Creusa, but that depends on interpretation and the source so if you want to discard it, you can. No one can tell you you can't.
"UwU Apollo's love life is terrible!"
do i even need to say anything?
"Athena hates women!"
hell to the fuck no. the evidence people use for this is the Medusa Myth: Ovid's Version, and CONVIENTLY IGNORE THE ONES WHERE SHE HELPS WOMEN ESCAPE BEING RAPED!! AND THAT OVID IS THE ONLY ONE WHO DOES THIS!!
Even with the ones where she punishes the victim, the older versions do not have that! She made Nicymene her eternal owl companion, for heaven's sake!
"Hermes/Dionysus/Hephaestus is the only unproblematic god! UwU"
uh... *waves Leuconoe/Choine/Philonis around* no matter which version you go with, Hermes/Mercury does rape her...
...and in the Dionysica Dionysus rapes like two women...
...and Hephaestus tried to rape Athena... (oh wow, would you look at that...it's like Athena would have *gasp* sympathy for assault survivors...)
...See the double standards? :/ Ignores Roman/late Greek literature when it's convenient, and then exaggerates it to suit their own needs.
"Demeter is a terrible mom!"
GET OUT OF MY HOUSE NO ONE DISRESPECTS THE QUEEN
"Hades only kidnapped Persephone because Zeus told him too!"
Hades is his own man and wasn't being held at gunpoint to abduct her. He did so on his own merits. From a literal perspective, what was stopping him from just. you know. talking to her. kidnapping was not necessary.
(yes, yes, i know about the symbolic perspective, hence my use of 'literal'.)
"But Hades and Persephone are the only ones who don't cheat!!"
uh, nope. Hi Adonis, Minthe, how're you doing?
"But Adonis was more of a son to Persephone!!"
uh, NO. Even the ancients saw them as a couple!!
"Artemis is a girlboss who hates her brother!"
*kicks open door* OUT!
"Orion's the only man Artemis ever loved!"
how dare you disrespect my boy in this way Apollo was the first man she ever loved and no one will be able to replace him how dare you-
-and how dare you disrespect Hippolytus in this way he did not die in the name of all aroace people to be disrespected like this smh
"Zeus's only quality is how he fucks around!"
look, I've joked about this before but I know that's not all there is too him and that it has a symbolic representation.
Sure would be nice if people focused on that more :)
also anything that villainizes Aphrodite or Hera. god forbid women do anything.
"Clytemnestra is a girlboss who did no wrong!"
OH MY GOD THE DOUBLE STANDARDS.
funny how people fawn over Cassandra one moment and then COMPLETELY FORGET HER EXISTENCE to becry the woman who murdered her!
AND ALSO GO OUT OF THEIR WAY TO HATE APOLLO FOR CURSING HER WHEN THEIR STORY IS LITERAL ABOUT A WOMAN'S AUTONOMY BEING RESPECTED!!
AND GUESS WHAT!! APOLLO AVENGES HER DEATH!!
anything that is "UwU Achilles!" omg i am sick of it.
that bitch had everything coming. he deserved everything he got. Tenes, Troilus, and Hemithea did NOT deserve what he did to them! APOLLO AND PARIS HAD EVERY RIGHT TO TAKE HIM DOWN!
i'm probably forgetting some but here's the one that popped into my head :)

I do wonder who the rest of the 141 and kortac would be, but I do have some ideas:
Price: Athena (I at first thought Zues, but he'd never cheat on his wife. I just can't see it) Goddess of wisdom and war strategies cause it makes sense. If not Athena, then I could see him as Demeter cause I have Goose brain rot, and who says Ghost only gets with Prices daughter in one universe. Like Demeter Price and Persephone Goose with Hades Ghost just makes my brain purr. There's also just the thought of Price on his little farm harvesting and growing plants after the horrors of the Titan War. He grows sad and cold when his daughter leaves but understands she just wants to be with the one she loves. Maybe he, too, could find a lover to warm his home.
Ghost: Hades cause of the above post, though whether or not he kidnaps her or she just walks down there grabs him by his neck and marries him is up in the air. If not Hades, then probably Hestia just cause the image of this 6-foot heavily scared man being the god of the hearth, home, virginity, and guardian of the flame of olympus makes me cackle. Plus, I saw a head cannon where Hestia gave up her seat to Dionysus so she wouldn't have to be olympus's therapist anymore, and yeah, Ghost would do that. And yes, he abstains from sex cause he's traumatized, but that doesn't mean he can't have a companion. Or this one's on the nose, but Thanatos, plus him getting trapped in a box and having to be rescued, makes me cackle too.
Soap: Apollo god of the sun and creativity because he's good with his hands, and I always saw soap as a guy with a sister who loves his mom. Plus, the angst of Apollo soap never getting requited love is ooph. He's just very passionate and often times that leads to his lovers getting turned into plants. If not him, then Hermes or Dionysus could work, too. I could see him being Dionysus and giving people who piss him off madness. And just throwing great parties, if he does take Hestias seat and becomes olympus's new therapist, he'd definitely open a bar and make fancy drinks while listening to people's troubles.
Gaz: Nike just cause if Price becomes Athena, then Nike is Athenas companion, and Gaz is Prices companion. If not Nike, then maybe hear me out, but Ares (who canonically has a pretty boy face under his fearsome mask) cause, let's be honest, Gaz would steal your girl with a smile. I could also see Ares Gaz as the protector of women and very respectful of them. He still will use his good looks to get them in his bed, and because of that, he has so many daughters. He becomes thee girldad by accident. And if not either of them, Hermes cause trickster god of messages who is best friends with Apollo soap makes sense for him too.
Laswell: Either Hestia or Hera and if she is Hera she's definitely plotting to murder her husband and marry her wife.
Nikto: Hephaestus
Konig: ngl I struggled with this one, but hear me out, Dionysus konig. Dionysus is interesting cause he's the god of wine, parties, madness, and rebirth. And while you could say konig couldn't be Dionysus cause he has anxiety, I would argue he still could be, but more so as someone who watches over and plans parties. He just brings the wine to get the debauchery started. Voyeur könig anyone? Also, a lot of Dionysus's riuals and sacrifices are very bloody and involve dismemberment. Dionysus can be a very scary god when he wants to be, and I like that about him. Plus, just imagine him and Ariadne with the "you dont like the murder" sound. As for anyone else, he could be idk, maybe Artemis loner, goddess of the moon, and the hunt. Could definitely see könig Artemis snipe perverts and protect virgins.
Kruger: Eris goddess of chaos cause why not. If not Eris, then hear me out he's one of Aphrodites kids (not Eros, cause I like to think Eros is Hephaestus Nikto and Aphrodites love child). But he could def be mania and is constantly giving Nikto problems because everyone goes to him cause they know Aphrodite reader won't punish him properly. She's a gentle parent, though that does mean her kids aren't disciplined correctly, but thankfully, only Kruger gets in trouble. (I also thought of this cause of that one fanart where Nikto leaves Kruger with the 141, and they call Nikto to come pick him up)
Horangi: I also struggled with him, too, cause I'll be honest. I don't know much about him besides him being a konigs friend. But when I think of him, I could see him being either Artemis, Thanatos, Ananke, greek goddess of inevitability, or if you're feeling adventurous, Posiden. He could also be one of Aphrodites kids but one of her more chill kids.
So for the most part I want to keep Nikto in his own au mostly so I can use/abuse the other gods without worrying about my own headcanons for them.
that said :eyes: at Goose as Persephone... I was going to disagree with you on Ghost being Hades but you have persuaded me with just that concept alone.
Here's the problem is I think I could make a solid argument for Ghost to take the place of multiple gods because his character can be interpreted so many different ways. I am so desperately begging people to pitch me Ghost doing things other than mask/skull/violence when it comes to aus.
Anyway I'm just going to be talking about gods under the cut, rambling if you will
Price as Demeter I sort of fuck with severely, not as a god of plenty but as a god of famine and loss. Willing to take away family and fruit in equal measure if that's what it takes to do his job. There's something very "every greek god is a god of war if you piss them off enough" about Demeter that speaks to a slow death, a rapid but lengthy decline. The crops wither and the livestock dies. Your children insist on joining the war, you receive only their letters until the letters stop coming, you know that you've displeased the gods but you cannot say how or why.
On the other hand, Price is an exceptional tactician and would kill as Athena. He's a warrior but he's a smart one, doesn't tend to rush into things, instead he holds his soldiers back and tries to play things by the book, until he can't any longer and must take action into his own hands. Athena is a great fit for him and a role that would be easy to slot him into.
Gaz I also love as Athena though ugh. I could also slot him into Apollo or Helios just for the irony of a man who's fallen from a helicopter twice being forced to cart the sun across the sky. Lots of jokes to be made there. I will say that when I was first thinking about the hephastus!Nikto au I slotted Gaz into Ares' space, but I don't like the idea of Gaz spreading rumors that he's sleeping with poor aphrodite, because it feels mmmmmoderately out of character for him. I think he's more in line with manipulating you into his arms rather than straight up lying about sleeping with you. This man doesn't have to lie about having you in his bed, he'll talk you into it.
Lemme hit you with this one: Gaz as Artemis. The sniper skills would transfer beautifully to a hunter god, and I like the idea that he's so busy with his work he's just never had a need to find a lover thus earning him the title of "virgin god"
Alternatively: Hypnos. I like a man that visits me in my dreams, and I could probably write a whole book about Gaz playing both savior and boogey-man to a poor sleepy thing that just wants one night not being visited by haunting visions.
Soap as Apollo, yeah... yeah accurate. I can't really place him well anywhere else. I think there's already something exceptionally golden about him that translates well to Apollo, and you're right about him having terrible luck in love. An Apollo/Daphne retelling would be right up his alley.
I think my other pick for him might be Ganymede. Not a god per-se but in this au we'd count the cup bearer as a god. Just the idea that he's so pretty the king of the gods swooped down and snatched him up just to make him his personal boy-toy? Soap would be so down. He'd be salivating for the chance.
Ghost as Hades but not because of the skull imagery. He's a lonely god, relegated to the underworld because he doesn't like the big and flashy, and only showing up to events when he has to because he doesn't like the crowds. He prefers being alone after being crammed in his father's stomach with the rest of his siblings, has gone through hell worse than any of the new gods can imagine, growing up within the bitter sting of acid and the childish pleas to just let him die before he grew up and realized no one was coming to save him, and the best he could do was find a way to live with the pain. The burns still cover him, seared into his skin so that he never forgets the agony of digestion. His aversion to eating is less noticeable when he's around the dead, when the most he can stomach are fruits and bread, the other gods feast on fat and meat. And well, he just can't do it, not when he's smelled his own flesh burning.
(and of course he's shocked to find precious Persephone insisting that they marry when he's sure that he'll repulse her once she finds out what he is beneath the mask and heavy robes. More so when she breaks into his house and tells him she's staying.)
Hestia though??? Oh baby you're cooking with gas. He wants nothing more than to stay out of the politics of god-hood. And you're right I love making Ghost anxious about sex because of his own assaults.
However Laswell as Hestia??? The ceaseless watcher, privy to conversations mortal and divine because there's a hearth in every home, in every bedroom on olympus. She knows all things and keeps the information close until she can use it. Not the virgin god that mortals think she is just because she's never laid with a man, after all her wife keeps her more than satisfied...
Nikolai as Poseidon perhaps. Another old god, but this one eager to explore the world, eager to lap his waves against virgin shores, if you know what I mean. He's not looking to rule the gods, but that doesn't mean he isn't a force to be reckoned with. He'll take whatever offerings he's given, meat, wine, women, men? Just leave them on his shores and he'll find his way to them eventually. There may be a string of broken hearts in his wake, but who would dare try to hold onto the ocean?
And I suppose Konig as Dionysus maybe? I think the madness he inspires is a good fit, but I don't see him as particularly social so partying is fairly off the table. Also I don't think the rest of the gods would like him enough to give up a seat for him lol. The voyeur aspect is incredibly tempting I will give you that. I could make it work, but only because he's such a blank slate.
The rest I don't write for and don't know well enough to comment on, sorry!

Halloween on Mount Olympus
Zeus suggests that he and Hera do a couple's costume, but he neglects to tell her how many other individuals will be wearing an outfit like hers.
Poseidon calls on Charybdis and some other monsters to freak out nearby mortals.
Hades stays where he is because he figures that it can't get much spookier than being surrounded by dead people. He and Persephone carve pumpkins that Demeter's looking forward to seeing.
Hermes is setting up props everywhere to freak out the rest of the immortals. He enchants a few of the decorations so that they will come to life at the perfect time.
Artemis decides that she and her followers should hunt monsters for the day instead of normal animals. If they find a vampire, that's an added bonus.
Apollo comes up with festive songs to play. They're blasting from the mountain. He's opposed to eating candy since he's health-conscious.
Hephaestus is making weapons for Artemis to use against the monsters. Outside of listening to Apollo's music, he doesn't really celebrate.
Dionysus is spiking every Halloween punch he can find and hosts the most spooktacular bash in the millennia.
Hestia is using the hearth to make some pumpkin pie and cookies shaped as monsters.
Aphrodite finds horror movies to watch while she snuggles with Ares later. She's also asked Athena to weave a special costume for her.
Athena and Ares have turned this into a competition (to no one's surprise). Whoever can manage to scare the other more wins...something. They haven't decided on a prize yet, but they're excited.

(To fix a previous typo) Same person who suggested the angst potential for Manwhore!Odysseus here; I also bet Zeus, Poseidon, etc are highly confused why Oddie hangs out with those Greek deities who dont sleep with him alongside not shaming or judging him for doing what he did.
Zeus: am i the problem? Nah, Oddie needs proper Thunder Bringer discipline
Poseidon: why would Oddie hang out with those…delinquents? What do they see in him?
Hades: (sips his tea while reading his newspaper in front of his siblings argumentative shenanigans)
Persephone: …he is a great guy to talk to i'm not gonna lie
Hera: (grumbles in agreement)
--
Telemachus: let me holler you quick yeah? Why do they say you slept with my dad and stuff?
Hermes: (math lady face before realization) you Oddie’s son?
Telemachus: (exasperated) Yes Im Oddie’s Son
Hermes: you talking about Oddie and the beautiful bottom?
Telemachus: YO WHY IS YOU PLAYING AT ME YO
(Hermes later hilariously clarified that they had a sleepover, not any affairs of some sort…maybe idk)
--
Aphrodite: (girl talk) damn Athena, how do you get Oddie to hang out with you more often without sleeping with him?
Athena: idk girl, maybe NOT demanding to use his body is one way. I had to take him to Hestia for therapy seven times today thanks to Ares’ recent…activities
Aphrodite: (grimaces from previous bedtime memories)
--
Hephaestus: (creates double copies of Oddie to help him to hold off Zeus, Poseidon, etc for a while)
--
Artemis: Is my brother Apollo giving you trouble again? Here’s a tree to hide in
Oddie: (thanks her 100 times much to her amused chagrin)
--
Demeter: according to Hestia, farm work is a good source of therapy for Oddie. Have to admit, he is a great employee!
1# Employee of Month photo: (Oddie looks like he’s almost sleep-deprived)
--
Aeolus: (gives Oddie more backup wind to escape if getting chased)
I heavily disagree on the Ares one, actually, because while yes Ares is absolutely attracted to power, he’s also like, very awkward about that sorta stuff. Mans a switch, but he never takes the lead, he’s usually along for the ride
Now Aphrodite on the other hand, she likes to explore in the bedroom, she a freak.
Ares is into it.
Odysseus? Not so much

ten storylines u think could have been amazing in lo if they had been handled better?
10 already feels like so much for a story like LO buuttt:
1.) the act of wrath plotline, seriously this one felt like it had some of the most lost potential as one of LO's more unique plotlines (and it lost that potential as soon as it was turned into some "oopsy" committed by persephone due to her wrath being a 'gift' from eris when she was a baby??? still bugs me so much ugh) give me back that dichotomy of Persephone and her internalized wrath, dangit.
2.) the Eros and Psyche plotline. it started off so promising as a parallel B-plot to H x P and then seemed to just get dropped halfway through S1 when Psyche got turned into a nymph.
3.) Echo's involvement as a double agent for Zeus. that was clearly the intention when she was introduced but then she was promptly dropped and only showed up again to say "fuck you Zeus" with zero build-up or implication that she had a change of heart. Like imagine if we actually saw her leaking info back to Zeus but then also getting closer to Hera on a personal level and realizing that she didn't want to keep snitching on her. it would have also made the 'big reveal' of Hera kissing Echo a lot more impactful because then they would have had an actual story arc.
4.) Persephone's character development into becoming the Dread Queen. Right now the story wants us to think that Persephone is somehow "better than ever" despite the fact that her version of the "Dread Queen" is being an absolute Karen. But think of how it could have been if her character de-evolution was the point, to show how Hades had corrupted her. Or if they were meant to be actual shitty people and not shitty people that the narrative was trying to convince us were good.
5.) Hades' and Minthe's relationship. It goes without saying that Minthe was wrong to turn to physical violence, but I'll die on the hill that Minthe wasn't being treated fairly by Hades, either. Those three flashback episodes in S2 leading up to Minthe getting turned into a plant were such a missed opportunity to showcase how Minthe became as bitter as she did towards Hades and what their relationship was actually like in the beginning (and why they liked each other in the first place which they very clearly did) but instead it just dragged its heels because obv Rachel didn't want people empathizing with Minthe.
6.) Ares being used as a tool for war by Zeus. It's clear being sent off to these wars is taking its toll on him and it's created a steep divide within the family, especially concerning how protective Ares is of Hera esp when it comes to how Zeus treats her.
7.) The Aphrodite / Hephaestus plotline. Good god I have no idea what the thought process was behind this one, some of the myths she kinda got away with flipping but this was the one that made the least sense to flip. There was so much potential there that was squandered, a lot of it at the expense of Aphrodite and Ares as traditionally powerful and respected gods.
8.) Hades' alcoholism. Minthe was right, simply falling for Persephone and dropping the cigars and brandy to make himself look better for her doesn't make him a changed person. If the alcoholism was linked to his trauma, why didn't we explore that more? Why couldn't we have seen him actually pursue proper recovery and have it not just be "I'm hot for the 19 year old girl but if I'm drinking constantly that'll make me look bad so I'm just gonna put on the best fake persona I can to make her fall in love with me" instead of actually getting to the root of his issues?
9.) The SA plotline. As much as I talk about how shitty it is, I have zero issue with the original depiction of it, I think it was very accurate especially when it comes to coercion. A lot of people assume SA has to be violent, kicking and screaming, begging for help, but coercive assault is often a lot quieter and more about manipulation which that scene nailed in depicting. It's just everything after that that feels completely misfired and more so for the purpose of making Hades look like a better person simply by comparing him to Apollo on the basis of "he never assaulted Persephone!" and it drives me nuts.
10.) Demeter's winter. In the most recent FP episode, while discussing it with pals, all I could really say was, "This was supposed to be a retelling of the Abduction of Persephone". And Demeter's winter is a core part of that story, one of its biggest purposes in Greek culture was using the myths to explain the creation of the seasons. Despite this being a "retelling" of the Abduction of Persephone / Hymn to Demeter, one of the most important characters in the entire myth has been reduced to, at worst, a Mother Gothel Disney villain, and at best, a pointless NPC.

People who want a beauty and the beast Greek Myth retelling use Hephaestus and Aphrodite when they get bored of Hades and Persephone
Menelaus and Helen actually embody the dynamic that Aphrodite and Hephaestus shippers wish Aphrodite and Hephaestus had.

Shiptober (Greek Mythology)
(Sorry a bit late but I just want to make one of these for Epic Cycle and Hadestown and Epic fandom, and a little disclaimer: it’s my version anyway. Also the ships are mainly collected from these two fandoms) (You might not like some of them and that’s okay, just ignore them. I might have forgotten abt some ships so they might not make it to the list and I’m sorry abt that. These are the ones I’ve gathered so far and I don’t think I’ve put any toxic ship here)
Agamnestra (Agamemnon x Clytemnestra)
Catalogue of Ships (aka Iliad book 2 appreciation)
Telestratus (Telemachus x Peisistratus)
OdyMene (Odysseus x Menelaus)
DioSthene (Diomedes x Sthenelus)
Telesicaä (Telemachus x Nausicaä)
Aphrodite x Ares
Hephaestus x Aphrodite
OdyPoli (Odysseus x Polites)
