why does Rick Riordan hate the original myths so bad 💀

the Asphodel stuff?? regret? where is that coming from? you fully just made that shit up? out of his ass fr. the fields of Asphodel are specifically an area of neutrality, where the pretty much all mortals go when they die. it's for anyone who lived a normal life, who isn't a hero or a literal monster. it's specifically a neutral zone for people to exist once they die, it has nothing to do with ~your regrets in life~. it's like, a peaceful field of flowers where all your life's troubles are left behind on the surface.

the closest things to that is the fields of mourning/sorrow, but that's specifically for unrequited romantic love and also not called the fields of Asphodel (and also I'd bet money that rr doesn't know what that is) (and also only in Virgil's The Aeneid and not the Odyssey with the rest of what we know of the underworld)

#monthly reading lists #books #a nicely restrained list #mostly made up of my strong september associations #of course it's psmith pseptember so i must read at least a chapter or two #(i know too well that i don't have the discipline to expect more but i would like a taste)#sherlock holmes audiobooks made great commute reading during several septembers and now it's a vital part of the season #(i'll prob only read one or two short stories rather than try for a whole volume)#i've vaguely been feeling i'm due for a hobbit reread for a few months #but now it hit me strongly that i must read it in audio #(if i can't find a good audio version i'll have to skip that item)#i read 'surprised by joy' one september while my sister was in ireland and i was missing it #and now it feels right especially because there's an oxford academia vibe that's great for back-to-school #i want to read some kind of female-written mystery #but yet to decide if i want victorian sensation novel or agatha christie #or if i'll just try a vaguely gothic christian novel #an english squire gets on the list thanks to thatscarletflycatcher and it just feels right to have that be my next obscure classic #i wanted something for back-to-school but i didn't know if i wanted a non-psmith school story or what #so i just went with nonfiction because it's about me learning new things #also several things that didn't make the list but may be read #i was very close to putting the tenant of wildfell hall on the list #but i don't want the pressure #if i do read it it needs to be something i'm not required to do #i will probably try to finish chesterton's 'varied types'#and prob read more emma m lion #and maybe pride and prejudice on audio?

With having his last moments with his twins, Ruby and Aqua, before passing, Aqua and Ruby were able to get clues to the person who could be their mother/their father's killer, find the stalker and the lies that their father left behind.

The song "Fatal" by GEMN gave me this book idea, especially making Melt, Taiki, and Aqua idols.

Okay because my mind’s still on the subject, I have a bit of a weird question, but I just want an answer

So like, my favorite type of drama in series is usually familial drama, most often ones between parents and their children. And also usually, those dramas that I love are specifically between father and son

And now I’m wondering, what are parent-child dramas/dynamics that involve a female character usually like? As in, mother-son, father-daughter, or even mother-daughter? And additionally, are they as interesting as father-son dynamics? Because I feel like I don’t see nearly enough of them, or at least, they never give me that same amount of intrigue or they just aren’t as focused on

By which I mean specifically in my context, would they be interesting in an action based series? I have a particular taste, namely that I like my series (mostly this applies to shows, I’m a bit more flexible with games) to be more action focused, or at least have some fantastical elements to it, or else I don’t care. I’m not interested in soap opera kind of drama, I want something that would fit in an action based show

Sorry, again this is probably a weird request (and to be honest I really don’t expect answers, posts of mine like these usually get little to no attention), but it’s on my mind. I feel like I see so many interesting father-son dynamics and conflicts, but I never see one that involves a woman, at least not when it comes to parent-child dynamics, and not ones nearly as interesting

#I do think it has to do with the demographics of the shows I watch #or at least the ones that I watched as a kid and where my tastes stem from #most notably Ninjago but there were others #one coming to mind was Kaijudo which I loved as a kid and am still fond of (even if mostly just for Raiden’s plots)#(I’m neutral on Gabe and do not care for Allie but Raiden Bob and Saguru are all interesting to me)#anyways going back to my point those and other shows were usually marketed towards boys #and so as a result were probably made to be more male centric #and I think up until at least the past 10? years or so female characters in those shows weren’t usually written the best #as the writers were probably also all men #and so as such the male characters usually have all the interesting stuff #and the conflicts I like #especially as someone who isn’t a big fan of romance which is usually something that comes up with female characters #hell I’m shocked when a series places equal weight on a female character’s relationship with her brother #as well as her love interest #which right now I can only attribute to Xenoblade 1 but still #(and I know Fiora and Shulk’s relationship is more important but Shulk is the main protag so I get it)#fuck I’m writing too much #point is demographics and old writing conventions are probably the cause #and it’s probably gotten better but I don’t know a lot of good female parent-child relationships #questions #tv shows #video games #random stuff

Hi. I am reminded due to recent events in-game and considering more than usual.

I have my own thoughts in regards to this game but I love Rapi with all my heart. She's amazing and the reason I stuck around for a bit.

I feel like we didn’t truly see much depth in their relationship?#maybe wish there was more than one female character and also her being a succubus means she is kinda regularly raping people.#the examples we see are mostly shitty men and like obviously all the other gods are murdering people too but also....#That is a thing in here. It maybe could have been discussed a little more idk.#Having said that I did still enjoy a lot of aspects of it!

and for the record i don't have issues with people who play as alexios or male eivor. i just want to point out the hypocrisy of ubisoft congratulating themselves with female protagonists and yet most players will choose the male options. and then the concept of protag choices suddenly dissipates the second a storyline for a male character emerges

why is the depiction of twins in media always either "they're so identical they're basically The Same Guy" or "they're so fundamentally opposite in every way that as adults they eventually go no contact" and there's like. no in between
