this woman spent millenia as a dragon she is going to have goddamn antlers.

so yeah, she keeps small antlers. they glow. big golden eyelashes too, eyes keep a strange glow to them

she's generally more eldritch.

I think she tends to have more memory issues after coming back. nothing too bad, but she struggles a bit sometimes.

Now Link- he does not just get back his arm. Amputate that man.

yeah so he loses his right arm from a bit above the elbow once Rauru disappears for good and takes his arm and magic back.

He gets phantom pains and all, sometimes he reaches for ultrahand and is just like. ah yeah

he takes it pretty well honestly. Purah and Zelda figure out how to make him a prosthesis and he wears it most of the time, but doesn't like it that much - he just would hate to get caught by surprise by monsters or the Yiga and fumble w/ his left arm.

Zelda and Link are always together after totk happens, but like. even more always together. And it's not just Link protecting Zelda anymore, she's protecting him too.

I think she gains a sort of very faint healing power from her time as the light dragon, so she tries to find ways to always be touching Link so he doesn't get too hurt

Mainly because he has the habit to just. not say when he's hurt, or when something's wrong.

The sages ask a lot about their ancestors, and Zelda loves to tell them and Link everything about her time in the past. She warns that she may not remember everything well, but they don't really care.

more than 100 years after the calamity started, some of the champions are starting to get forgotten - mainly, Revali and Urbosa. Daruk literally has his face carved in a moutain and the Zora live so long that most of them still remember Mipha, but Revali and Urbosa are really becoming more legend than anything. Link and Zelda make sure people remember them.

After everything starts to calm down, Link is forbidden from coming into Gerudo Town again, unless there's something happening and he has to come and protect the city, so Zelda visits often and tells him all about how everyone's doing. Riju sometimes comes out of the town and goes on walks with Zelda and Link.

Link spends a lot of time in Rito Village, telling the kids about Revali and how annoying he was- but mostly about how strong and skilled as an archer he was. He doesn't want Revali to be forgotten.

Sidon is so stressed lmao, Link visits him often. He brings gifts for him and Yona and spends time with them and everyone at the Domain. Sidon is very thankful for his friend.

Link hangs out a lot around Mipha's statue, just letting her watch over him. it's one of the rare places he feels safe enough to put his sword down and just relax.

Tulin is SUCH an excitable little bird child. He loves hanging out with Link. They're siblings I'm deciding right NOW

They move here and make the house in Hateno a safe house for everyone in the village and every traveler that might come. They place travel gates near both houses so they can still go to the school.

Back in the King's time the wedding would've been really big and public and annoying, but Zelda isn't having it. She does make a public announcement that they are getting married, but the actual wedding is a small thing (lol small).

They get married under Satori Mountain's cherry blossoms, and invite the sages, Yona, Purah, Impa, Paya, a lot of the kiddos they met in their adventures, etc. they wear flower crowns too. Link cries. Zelda cries. Everyone cries.

Link doesn't really become King because the second Zelda goes yeah you're kinda legally King now he just goes EW. NOPE.

So Link stays the Queen's knight, they're just yknow. wed.

PART FOUR PART FIVE OMNOMNOMNOMNOM Also Arle being a whole head and torso higher than R in human form as a dragon is going to be hilarious (there's no need to transform into a full human so Arle goes into a form that saves more energy to transform into, hehehhe). Reader getting embarrassed by EVERYTHING because what do you do when your eye level is face to face with the most delicious abs and thighs possible? Not drool and want to worship even for good snuggles and for use as a pillow?

Speaking of dragons a lot of them have what's known as a reverse scale, which is technically a weak point/treasure and getting to touch it is a huge symbol of trust. There are two ways the death mechanic will work.

1. Plot Dictated - This is ingrained into the plotline, you can't change this (unless you turn the feature off)

2. BIG Time Fail Stat Check - It's like trying to pass a stat check with the passing score being 50% and your stat is at like 10%.

NOTE: The Death Mechanic will only appear in Book 2.

If the death mechanic is turned off, what happens?

No one dies, they're just permanently hurt/unavailable (Plot Dictated) or are visibly scarred/marked (BIG Time Fail Stat Check).

How is the story formatted?

If you played Fire Emblem: Three Houses, similar to that but there are 5 houses/routes.

If you haven't, when you pick a House, you select a route. The first half ("The School Phase") will encompass the first game. There around 10-13 chapters in the first half. The second half ("The War Phase") will be in the second game and feature around the same amount of chapters, give or take a few.

Anywho! Her name is Ynrur and she’s absolutely BADASS NGL- buut short version: 

Captain Ynrur is a Maormer pirate captain, and ‘wereshark-lord’- and practically queen of the Abecean Sea after the events of the dragon crisis Skyrim- her rather diverse crew equally famed and loathed for their strength and magicks.

    Ynrur is surprisingly fun loving, and pretty much everyone’s cool older aunt- and also adores music, and has a tendency to hire musicians as well instead of just thieves. As well, she is quite honourable for a pirate- and never targets anyone who isn’t immensely rich.

   … if you mention the rumours she will tear your face off :P

LONG VERSION HEHE:

    Ynrur was born into a fishing family, they weren’t well off per se, but comfortable enough- but she wasn’t really content with the small town life- and as soon as she was old enough and had enough money she moved to one of the larger Pyandonean islands + it’s largest city, (a lot of its lore is very much made up by me for my universe I dunno if Pyandonea is canonically a bunch of islands lol) and took up a job as a courier.

    T’was when she was in the maormer equivalent of early thirties that she met a bosmer by the name of Gwinvenin (those who know… wuh oh) who had recently moved to the same city she was in, and was obviously very lost and unable to figure out where the house he’d bought was. Funnily enough after helping him and meeting up a few times they ended up becoming friends, and then even later on lovers.

    Buut turns out Gwinvenin was not exactly a Bosmer, and very much the daedric prince of madness, but she didn’t care- bro what do you see in him 😔.

    It did not end well, even if it was a few years, and… lets just say her coping mechanisms weren’t the greatest… And she has quite a few things she’s been trying to forget- but, funnily enough, it was her turning to Hircine worship and the eventual rewarding of her y’know, lord strain, that helped her heal. She’s no longer the borderline pushover she used to be, and well, you don’t want to be on the other end of her fists.

   At some point within the last decade she may or may not have both saved a sea serpent egg from some poachers and raised it, stole the Navarch (maormer leader-)’s flagship, started the most unconventional pirate crew ever, basically becoming so feared and respected that she’s basically the unofficial queen of the abecean sea’s pirates, and driven the High-Queen of High Rock into such a panic that the entire province is basically in the middle of a civil war for better or for worse.

    She’s fiercely protective of her crew, and basically considers them her family- and I have to admit she’s killed quite a few people to protect some of them

Random Facts Yippee!!!

Her ‘thropy is based on the shortfin mako shark! As a wereshark lord, typically when she’s half shifted she keeps the tail, fins, claws, gills, and fangs but sometimes she’ll switch to be less or more depending on what’s needed

Veryyyy strong and muscular even sans half shift- very useful considering she mostly fights with her fists and tail rather then weapons (and er chomping sometimes lmao)

Sometimes she gets a bit too antsy on the deck of her ship and will kinda just follow it while shifted in the water- for the same reason she rarely goes far inland unless there’s rivers or lakes nearby, though she prefers salt water.

She didn’t exactly know about / discover this until way after his death, but she’s my LDB’s mom- she wasn’t all too pleased with sheo (/ my mantle) when she discovered she had a son she would never get to meet. This is exactly why she joined with Alters-Truth and Akisrava to try to discover how to kill a god- even if technically it was to stop the Traveller from destroying Tamriel~.

Her hair has been white since her late teens, just genes ig lol.

Though she can eat vegetables and fruits and whatnot- since turning she prefers meat.

Eurynome

Since Eurynome is Kantonian she goes by her last name; Koizumi. It's really rare for her to regard herself with her first name unless she sees you on equal or higher standing

Eurynome has a warrant out for her arrest in Kalos because she broke into the original palace as she didn't want to pay the 1,000 dollar entry fee

Eurynome's first ever Pokemon wasn't actually her Gothitelle, but a Pokemon she found in Vermilion hiding under a truck scared when she was around 14, they've been bonded ever since

Eurynome is actually orphaned, found in the Viridian Forest at around 12 she was put into foster care but it never really worked out. She developed her liking for sewing by making plush toys for the other children so they wouldn't be scared at night. At the time of RH she's 37

The reason why she's so well educated despite having grown up isolated for a bit was because even as a kid she had an insatiable desire for learning and understanding. She was at the top of her classes within the orphanage for that reason

She knows where the light stone is. It was an accident and she didn't mean to find it, but she left it alone and will take the knowledge of it's location to the grave. She knows better than to give out that kind of information or to play around with things that are foreign to her nor belong to her

Her current place of residence in Unova at this time is actually the Village Bridge. She likes the musically rich culture and the quietness of the town, sometimes she leaves her window open so the village can hear her playing either her piano or harp

Azrael's name isn't actually Azrael, it's Equilibrium

In regards to some of these ocs, there are Pokecanon and Storycanon. Pokecanon is the ocs made to fit into the story of the games and manga while Storycanon is basically their original story and AU. In Storycanon Audino lady and Azrael are siblings, Audino lady being his older sister, they do not get along

Audino Lady who's name I have yet to completely reveal

She lives deep within the woods, they say to find her is to follow where the Audino roam

The crystal embedded into Iolanthe's bow was actually a mega stone, she could've 100% clocked Drayden's Haxorus but she's more of the peaceful type

Audino Lady stands at almost 7 feet tall, which is why she's so good at sewing clothing, she has to sew her own because nothing else will ever fit her

Iolanthe didn't walk to Alder's house on foot as it's way too far away, so she had her caretaker's Gardevoir teleport her there. Chances are Drayden's Haxorus wasn't growling at Iolanthe but at the Gardevoir giving it a cold death stare from the bushes and treeline

She likes fairy types, she only uses fairy types with normal types being a common exception. She does not like dragon types in the slightest, reason why is lore related

She has psychic abilities, reason why is heavily lore related but she refused to use them unless absolutely necessary, she wishes to be "normal" and nothing else

ok azrael is definitely a ghetsis baby. him being named equilibrium basically confirms that in my mind LMAO . natural, pendulum, equilibrium.. at least anthea and concordia are goddess names. the other 3 are just kinda concepts. or he's somehow related to kyurem idk im going game theory mode on him. also :o siblings

Hitsugaya Toushirou

The Defender personality type is quite unique, as many of their qualities defy the definition of their individual traits.

Though sensitive, Defenders have excellent analytical abilities; though reserved, they have well-developed people skills and robust social relationships. As with so many things, people with the Defender personality type are more than the sum of their parts, and it is the way they use these strengths that defines who they are.

And we’re back! Hitsugaya is the last of the three Bleach MBTI quizzes I did, and the most polarizing in terms of how I feel about the results, because “naturally social” and “struggle to ensure that what they do is noticed” are part of the equation, which LOL, okay, but I think I’ve come around. I’ve now convinced myself that the profile does fit--just in a very Hitsugaya-like expression of these values. It’s like, "ISFJ, but not a particularly adept one." I know describing one’s aptitude for what are supposedly innate traits goes against the entire mindset of MBTI but literally what do I care lmao. I’m using it as a toy and the field of psychology can come for me if it dares. (Also, what is more relatable than "I’m bad at these inherent traits"?) 

Anyway, I think the disjuncture between the typical presentation of this type and who Hitsugaya stems from Hitsugaya’s commitment to a certain kind of world, even if he doesn’t entirely see himself as part of that world. He has clear ideas of how the world should be and what kind of person it should ideally house and serve, even if that person isn’t him, so his values don’t necessarily line up with how he acts/exists. I also think the near-parity between his F/T percentages tempers more of the squishy demonstrativeness that the profile suggests.

Primarily I’ve warmed to ISFJ Hitsugaya because it counters the like, generic DVD-booklet-character-profile Hitsugaya who is described solely in terms of ice metaphors and is kind of mean and doesn’t express or apprehend emotion, because I don’t think that’s very descriptive of Hitsugaya. Maybe that’s the Hitsugaya that exists in the mind of Generic Shinigami 124 who knows him only from whatever the Academy textbook says. I mean, I don’t read Hitsugaya as being particularly demonstrative unless he’s mad and/or having an Aizen crisis, but he definitely cares a lot about a lot of things and is driven by that care. I also think he puts a lot of care into reading others. Anyway--

Defenders are meticulous and careful, taking a steady approach and bending with the needs of the situation just enough to accomplish their end goals. Defenders not only ensure that things are done to the highest standard, but often go well beyond what is required.

This portion of the profile is definitely a Hitsugaya comfort zone, what with the paperwork, but I think this comes out most in Hitsugaya’s willingness to do the work, whatever it is, whether that work is training or the menial missions of the Gotei 13 (though those likely aren’t entirely by choice, lol). And for all that Hitsugaya’s combat strategy is almost unavoidably flashy—giant ice dragon tends to do that—I also feel like many of his approaches cook pretty slow. Or "meticulously and carefully," as the profile states. The number of times Pedant Hitsugaya comes out to battle like, "so... this technique takes a long time to set up…"—ugh, be still my heart! <3 What a weirdo.

Defenders are very imaginative, and use this quality as an accessory to empathy, observing others’ emotional states and seeing things from their perspective. With their feet firmly planted on the ground, it is a very practical imagination, though they do find things quite fascinating and inspiring.

I’m not sure what "accessory to empathy" means (is it like accessory to murder?) but I definitely Hitsugaya’s watchfulness as a pathway to empathy. I think he puts a lot of intention toward understanding others. I don’t know that it comes naturally, per se, but I think he does expect it of himself. Like, the pic below is a bubble my co-blogger and I are obsessed with, because it is at once not all that interesting but also completely bananas. 

He’s expressing to Matsumoto that seeing Ichimaru and Hinamori draw swords against each other was probably stressful for her, but he refers to Ichimaru as her contemporary and Hinamori as her underclassman. Which, lol, what a way to describe those relationships. I mean, he’s completely not wrong, and these descriptors are a lot more common in Japanese than they are in US English, but even Matsumoto’s reaction seems to confirm that it’s a least a little bit weird. Not that he’s wrong—he just doesn’t seem to quite know who Ichimaru is to Matsumoto. Nor Hinamori, for that matter, except that Matsumoto’s relationship to Hinamori is different from his own. So he’s bootstrapping what he does know and rolling with that. But my point is that even if he doesn’t actually understand Matsumoto’s exact perspective, he knows he doesn’t, and is does the imaginative work of holding space for that.

I already know this post is going to be 5x longer than it needs to be, so I’ll cut myself off here, but I also see this in Hitsugaya’s TYBW conversation with Byakuya right before we never see them again for the rest of the arc. First because Hitsugaya opens by qualifying that he knows fuck-all about Byakuya’s backstory and frames his statement in terms of the fact that their experiences are likely different, and second because this leads into him distinguishing between his and Byakuya’s relationship to Ichigo et al vs. Renji and Rukia’s—they may be Ichigo’s nakama, but Renji and Rukia are Ichigo’s friends.

Naturally social, an odd quality for Introverts, Defenders utilize excellent memories not to retain data and trivia, but to remember people, and details about their lives. When it comes to gift-giving, Defenders have no equal.  

…This is where "ISFJ, but bad at it" starts coming out, LOL. I don’t think Hitsugaya is naturally social. I think he values people who are, and sees this as an overall positive trait that the world should lionize—it’s just not one that he personally possesses. I also headcanon that he is not good at gift-giving, though I 100% do believe that between him at Matsumoto the 10th is a knowledge trove of weirdly specific ephemera about the rest of the Gotei. Their combined powers are limited only by the fact that Matsumoto can’t always remember who goes with which factoid and Hitsugaya isn’t in factoid-acquiring social situations often enough to have a truly deep well of tabloid information. I also think he’d be better at gift-giving if he had more time at his disposal to think about it, in the same way that I think his imaginations would be freer were there space for it.

People with the Defender personality type are private and very sensitive, internalizing their feelings a great deal. Much in the way that Defenders protect others’ feelings, they must protect their own.

Privacy tracks, for sure. I think there’s some nuance to that, though. Sometimes lack of demonstration gets equated with an unwillingness to feel your feelings, or an inability to apprehend them, but I think Hitsugaya has a solid read of himself and isn’t afraid of doing the work of addressing his own emotions. The address is simply private because that’s how it works best. He’s unlikely to keep the rest of the world updated, but he does the work. We do see him hiding his emotions sometimes—like when he’s evasive about going to see Hinamori in the middle of Matsumoto and Kira’s drunken angst session—but I think that’s mostly out of a sense that he doesn’t want to add an additional inconvenience to anyone else who’s also Going Through It, and that he doesn’t see much to be personally gained by doing so, than out of some kind of guarded fear that people will discover that he Has Emotions. He clearly does, often publicly, and kind of all over the place in unfortunate ways, LOL. I feel the need to qualify "solid read of himself" with the fact that even people who can read don’t necessarily find all things legible, and trauma is one of those intractable things that will do whatever it will, and drag you along for the ride.

Their strong senses of duty and perfectionism combine with this aversion to emotional conflict to create a situation where it is far too easy for Defenders to overload themselves – or to be overloaded by others – as they struggle silently to meet everyone’s expectations, especially their own.

I think being overbooked is one of Hitsugaya’s defining characteristics and the state of being overbooked isn’t even a personality trait—except that like, it is. It is now, because it’s probably permanent. This sense of duty is where ISFJ and ISTJ overlap so instead of "ISFJ but bad at it," I think this is more like "both deeply ISFJ and deeply ISTJ in a way that doubles this quality." Is that how this works? No, but again, the field of psychology can file a complaint with me at its leisure!!

Soul Society, particularly during the time period where canon takes place, asks more of everybody than most are capable of giving or sustaining; and Hitsugaya will say yes to anything that seems like it needs to be done; and then, having committed, to it, he will see that thing through to its end. Like, it is completely bonkers that someone would take on at least clerical management of someone else’s entire division—the 5th, post-Aizen’s defection—and then, at the same time, also say yes to a multi-month field detail in an entirely separate realm. But also still be running his own division remotely because he and his Vice-Captain both… went on this field detail, lol. But that’s still a thing that happened and the real crazy shit hadn’t even started yet. 

I think Hitsugaya is probably always trying to do 58 too many things and it’s not so much a question of "I think I can do this/I know I can’t do this" as much as it is "here are the things that need done and there’s a 30% chance this will work and a 70% chance I will collapse into a black hole so I’ll simply not think about that except to assert that 30/70 is basically 50/50 if you round up so it’s fine."

Combat-wise, Hitsugaya goes very hard, like all of the time. But it also seems necessary, like all of the time. So it doesn’t seem completely reckless; it’s desideratum, and that’s important to him. Hitsugaya "get rekt" Toushirou is clearly both skilled and powerful, but it’s never actually enough (could never be), and I think his willingness to not only flirt with the line but also willfully exceed it further emphasizes that. And because he lacks the depth of experience that comes with being 9000000000 years old, that line is a lot closer at hand and a lot harder to see, a lot of the time. One of the things I enjoy about Hitsugaya is that even as he seems to have a fairly careful read of situations and a conservative (but confident) sense of what he’s going to be able to actually pull off, this does nothing to change the fact that shock is one of his primary emotions. Like, he knows the pavement is wet; he put the "Slippery When Wet" sign out himself; and then he goes for it anyway, knowing it’s going to hurt.

I was curious about the "aversion to emotional conflict" bit in the original profile. It gives the impression of someone more skittish (or alternatively, more willing to mediate) than Hitsugaya is, but I think it works in a particular Hitsugaya expression, in that rather than feeling overloaded, or objecting to it, he’s just like, "well, this is the situation" and goes from there. It’s an aversion to internal emotional conflict. There’s a lot that is admirable about that—for instance, taking Hyourinmaru’s absence in stride as best he can—but like the profile insinuates, there are limits to that. I think Hitsugaya knows that the limit is there, but not what he’ll do or what will happen when he finds it.

Defenders need a lot of positive feedback… [They] are quite unwilling to advertise their achievements, often for fear of creating unnecessary friction, which makes it too easy for them to be overlooked when opportunities come along.

Maybe this is where "ISFJ, but bad at it" is actually a boon, because if Hitsugaya needs a lot of positive feedback, he’d have to REALLY fish for it in Soul Society, haha. And I also think Hitsugaya is legitimately uncertain about what he’s supposed to do with Ukitake’s positive reinforcement, like who is this man and what does he want from me. XDD Hitsugaya comes across as having a pretty strong self-concept, and additionally seems at ease with the idea that the most important positive reinforcement is "not dying."

Another area where I see Hitsugaya at odds with the ISFJ profile is all this talk of going unrecognized for their efforts or being overlooked or unwilling to advertise their achievements. I think by virtue of who he is, and what his accomplishments are, lack of recognition is not an issue. Where achievement is concerned, Hitsugaya doesn’t seem overly invested in dressing up or down. Youngest captain; most powerful ice-type zanpakutou; accelerated Academy tenure—all statements of fact. Incomplete bankai; "I don’t control this well"; "I didn’t have time to come up with a plan"—also statements of fact. 

Something I enjoy about Hitsugaya’s role as the "tensai" character is that in anime, that designation often comes with a lot of scrutiny and high outside expectations that do weird, sad things to their little brains. Yet I think Soul Society presents a unique environment where the DEMANDS on captains are very, very high, but the actual EXPECTATIONS seem… low? In the sense that oversight is spotty to non-existent and as an organization the Gotei 13 walks this fascinating tightrope between utter yeehaw and an authoritarian state. There’s all these rules and bureaucracy and draconian enforcement but also this underlying chaos of "lmao fuck it" being the party line, pervaded by a strain of  "¯\_(ツ)_/¯ guess we’ll die."

As managers, Defenders are warm, approachable and great listeners. Having no real desire to issue authoritarian dictates from some high tower, Defender personalities prefer to work alongside their subordinates, organizing people and minimizing conflict.

I don’t think Hitsugaya minds issuing authoritarian dictates professionally. Like, I don’t think he’s at all shy about that or has intensive internal debates about whether that’s his right or not. Heck, he’s ordered other captains around with zero apparent professional turbulence. I think that confidence of authority probably breaks down pretty quickly beyond the professional context (though… what isn’t a professional context in this shitty 24/7 job), but even within the professional context the 10th’s leadership style between Hitsugaya and Matsumoto does seem distinctively collaborative. They are ALWAYS together. That probably has a lot to do with having had to run the 10th without a captain for a time and a lot of the same patterns carrying over to the present. This is likely combined with Hitsugaya’s natural tendency toward micromanagement and the fact that he probably would not have the authority and trust that he does if he weren’t hands-on and approachable. I think he knows that he has to be in-person and visible, lest people get the Academy Textbook version of him, or the "is that a literal child in a captain’s haori" version of him.

One of my favorite things about Colorful Bleach is how much of Captain Dad makes its way into the Seireitei Communications issue. Ukitake’s out there wishing everyone happy birthday in the classifieds, and also took the time to write a kind note about Hitsugaya’s leadership style that speaks to his approachability, even though in his heart of hearts Hitsugaya would probably rather be hiding in a cave somewhere. (Which canonically he has. Also done. Lol.) Anyway, like their vacuum-ash-ice-wall thing, the 10th works the way it does because a particular situation presented itself and they found the best way to meet it.

Defenders’ friends are made not by random encounters on a wild night out, but through comfortable and consistent contact, as in class or in the workplace where they have the time to get to know each other little by little. A lot of what establishes and deepens Defenders’ friendships is the mutual support, advice and reassurance that the friends give each other.

I don’t need to belabor the truth of this statement where it concerns Hitsugaya and Matsumoto, but I do think it’s fun that where Mind and Tactics are concerned (the I/E and the J/P) numerically Hitsugaya and Matsumoto came out as almost perfect foils to one another, like one of those BE FRI / ST ENDS friendship necklaces.

And his probably needs its own post, because this one is already 90000 words long, but I think a lot of who Hitsugaya is and what he believes him is rooted in his relationship with Hinamori. The world he believes in is the one where people like Hinamori are the quintessential occupants, and I think it’s her support, advice, and reassurance that roots a lot of who he is, and what he wants to become. Not just for her, as in "on her behalf," but because of her. He’s driven to protect her because that’s his existential debt—not a debt that’s meant to be repaid, or that weighs one down, but a debt that inspires reciprocity.

A Random Headcannon:

I've talked before about this before, but I think Bilbo getting some sick burn scars from his narrow escape from Smaug would be cool. I mocked up a concept sketch for it once and now I just envision him that way subconsciously.

Unpopular Opinion:

I think while Bilbo is attached to his Dwarven friends and to Erebor for nostalgic reasons, he's far more drawn to and fascinated by Elvish culture and history. He settles down in Rivendell and starts learning their history and languages, and is named "Elf Friend" by Thranduil, and eventually goes to Valinor (with elves). Idk if this is really unpopular but I see a lot of people headcannoning Bilbo becoming like an honorary dwarf or wearing dwarven clothes/braids after the Hobbit, and while that's cool, frankly I think he was a little done with dwarves for awhile after that whole fiasco lmao.

Horse stance. THIS BITCH DESERVES THE TOP SPOT SO HERE GOES. I somehow did not make this connection until like I’m almost all the way through the book, but 扎马步 (zhā mǎ bù) or if you take the literal meaning of characters “poke horse step” is literally so well known it’s insane. I’m talking one of the first training/fighting stance that comes to a Chinese person’s mind when u mention kung fu/combat training in general well known so I rly dunno how it slipped my mind for an entire book

this particular stance is always a lil funny to me bc of the way it’s phrased in Chinese; with the 扎 “poke”, the intention is to convey a planting & sinking, steadying of the stance that’s just also funny af to me

so imagine sth u find a lil silly & funny fully becoming a flirtatious & romantic code specific to the main characters of the story? hilarity ensued; rip my friend who had to listen to my scream-laughing

Jianzhu, the architect, his name is literally pinyin for building (建筑 jiàn zhù); imagine naming ur kid Building Smith. No wonder he’s such an uptight type A

the name of Jesa’s (Kyoshi’s mom) sky bison, Longyan / 龙眼 (lóng yǎn), while directly translates to “dragon eye”, also happens to be the Chinese word for Longan fruit (which like Lychee, has cloudy, white/clear-ish flesh surrounding a dark, round pit)

Rangi’s name in the Chinese translation of the book is 燃姬 (rán jī), which itself is a basic sound translation, but these characters mean “lady on fire” or “burning lady” this is kinda cute as heck 4 me for some reason????? lil furnace lady Rangi makes me soft

…that brings us to Rangi’s mom Hei-Ran, someone who we know can be cold and calloused in getting sh*t done with some shady days in the academy, & her name may reflect that. her name could be these two characters 黑燃 (hēi rán), which translates to “black burn” or “dark burn”. talk abt obvious characteristic here; nothing more obvious than ur name amirite???

…then again it could also be 黑兰 (hēi lán, “Black Orchid”) which tbh I kinda like better bc it’s more likely to be used as a name; AGAIN, no one wants to name their kid “black burn” it really doesn’t sound as cool as you’d think

After clues from the comments (thank u @taare-writes!) and help I outsourced from TikTok — Hei-Ran’s name actually could be 혜란 in Korean !! also when I put this in the translator I used, the corresponding Mandarin it gave me was 蕙兰 (hùi lán), which is a specific type of orchid (boat orchid I believe?) and SUCH A PRETTY NAME oh my

the term used for the outlaws daofei, is literally just 盗匪 (dào fěi) “thieves/bandits”; this especially tickles my friend (who’s also reading these novels) so I gotta include it for her ;))))

the daofei’s secret gathering spot next to a lake in the mountains, Hujiang, could be 湖江 (hú jiāng) “lake river” or 湖将 (hú jiāng) which if u squint at it could mean “just by the lake”. this is fun bc it’s possible the author just flipped the saying 江湖 (jiāng hú), which while directly translates to “river lake”, has a much broader & meaningful use often in 武侠 (wǔ xiá, if u know u know, but if u don’t you can think of it as samurai or traveling knight but CHINESE) lore: it is used to refer to the world of action, thrills, and adventure walked by these warriors. It’s p cool to me lmao

oh and the Lei Tai the daofei’s fight on? Just 擂台 (lèi tái) “fighting stage”, same thing as the ring in boxing but doesn’t only reference one specific type of fight

Yun’s name is p simple & straight forward, probably just 云 (yún, “cloud”); it’s also an actual last name and I know someone from Highschool with this last name :)))

While Kyoshi obviously has Japanese origins, the kanji corresponding to きょし is 虚子. Japanese kanji have their origins in Chinese characters, and in this case these two kanji can mean “child of the void” (虚 xū “the void / the lack of something” 子 zǐ “child / kid”); pretty fucking metal name if u ask me

Lao Ge, the human alias of the bloodthirsty spirit in Kyoshi’s gang, could just be 老哥 (lǎo gē) “old brother” which is equivalent of just bro

… it’s real name, Tieguai, could be 铁怪 (tiě guài) “iron monster” or 铁拐 (tiě guǎi) “iron crutch”, which both kinda make sense??? given its monstrous tendencies and ancient origins

the green emerald burial sword Tagaka carried with her, jian, literally is just 剑 (jiàn) “sword”. Yes they really went you know what? we gon call it a sword sword

speaking of weapons, the dao broadsword? same thing. 刀 (dāo) literally means “broadsword”. broadsword broadsword hehe

what I find interesting abt this whole weapons naming is that technically when u picture a broadsword, it falls under the umbrella classification of sword (can someone who’s first culture ain’t Chinese confirm this??? thanks); though for Chinese ppl, 剑 (jiàn, “sword”) and 刀 (dāo, “broadsword”) are completely different beasts

basically dao & jian to us r like tigers and wolves when broadswords & swords r like tigers and lions (both in the felidae family)

where this info kinda becomes relevant is bc knives are also translated as 刀 (yeah the one for “broadsword”), and the way ppl know which type of sharp instrument you mean depends on the context. if ur carrying ur dao on ur back (like in the novels) it’s broadsword; if ur looking for a dao to prep dinner with it’s probably a knife unless u really have the urge to chop spinach with a broadsword

the Yellow Scarf’s imprisoned (later freed then dropped) leader, Xu Ping An, has a weirdly ironic name; his name is likely 许平安 (xǔ píng ān), “wish for peace”. 许 (xǔ) can mean “making a wish” & is an actual Chinese last name; 平安 (píng ān) “peace” on the other hand can be & have been used as a name

slight tangent: there’s this Chinese tradition of including undesired characteristics in ur child’s name so they could avoid those things in life I know it’s probably not the tradition mom&dad Xu had in mind when they named him but it did kinda take effect

the design of Govener Te’s mansion complex, the traditional earth kingdom siheyuan design that Rangi mentioned? It’s an actual traditional courtyard’d household design. I’m not the expert on this but if ur interested u can just search siheyuan and read more abt it ! v fascinating

四合院 (sì hé yuàn) roughly translates to “four enclosing yard”, referring to how the structure of this type of housing consists of four sections of single floor housing (each a specific functional space) enclosing an exposed courtyard in the middle. Character designs n stuff are slightly based off the official halloween n fantasy ending arts, plus whatever else I wanted to do, so Kiri is a dragon shifter here, Baku is a werewolf, n Ochako is a witch.

There'll probably be a hint of a/b/o dynamics here for weres n shifters, n the idea of alpha!Kiri n alpha!Baku has stuck to me like glue, so that's a thing here also

There's no real plot for this, just these three being dumb n pining, and everyone around them rolling their eyes n dealing with it lmao

I've thought about jobs n first meetings tho, n came up with this. Kiri's a firefighter (along with Tetsu, who is also a dragon shifter, bc I love him and their bro-bond), bc big fire resistent boy running into fires to help people just makes sense. Also I really like the thought of him in the uniform

Ochako works as a self defense instructor with Gunhead at a small gym in town, probably helping people with magic items n stuff on the side for extra cash or smth, I dunno. She might wanna move into a more magically dominant field one day, but she likes the environment of the gym n the regulars that come in n chat between classes. She's also very good at what she does n has put many assholes in their place after they've scoffed at "the cute little girl you have here".

Baku is a "park ranger", n I use quotations bc that's the only title he could really give himself to have any authority over the land he owns. He gives himself more leeway than what some laws may grant, tho tbh if you're coming into his territory with intent to harm those in it, you're lucky to walk away at all just sayin'

He runs an escape park of sorts for weres n shifters to run around during full moons and other times they need to shed their human skin, personally owned so he can avoid all the bullshit regulations n "safety procedures" found in bigger places that try offering the same thing, but ultimately make the shifting process shittier than it needs to be. And words gets around so it gets super popular super fast, n people of all ages come by

Tbh the thought of a teeny tiny wolf, like 10y/o at most running around Baku n trying to get him to play, nipping at his ankles n calling him the pack alpha is really what settled the debate on whether he should be an alpha or omega. And the added image of Baku rolling his eyes n putting on his toughass act but not really minding it as he gets them moving with a tap on the ass, muttering "Fuckin told ya squirt, I'm not your pack alpha. Now find someone else's ankles to bite at, I'm busy", makes me feel really nice

For some first meetings, tbh Kiribaku probably happens first, n they meet when Kiri n Tetsu accidentally trespass on Baku's territory bc they're new to the area n found a big ass lake to soak in during a flight over town, like dude!! Fuck yea that could fit both of us easy, man I haven't soaked in my big form in forever lets go!

And ofc if the giant shadows overhead hadn't tipped him off the security sensors would've so Baku's like who in the FUCK!! N storms off to confront them bc you don't just come on his land like that. That's how people get fucking hurt you dumb assholes 😤😤

N Kiri n Tetsu are mostly just minding their own business, settling down into the lake like aw yea that's the shit, almost passing out bc they'd just had a long day n the water was so cool n the fish eatting the dead skin n shit off their scales was so relaxing. They don't even realise they'd drifted into a light doze when they hear furious snarling n harsh sniffing coming their way, n barely have enough time to get up before Baku comes tearing shit through the trees

And like. Kiri n Tetsu know that they're big boys. Their full sized dragon forms are huge n there's not much out there that scares them, but nobody likes coming face to face with a snarling werewolf, standing in their territory without any warning that you maybe shouldn't be there

Despite the hostile intro, it doesn't take much for the misunderatanding to be cleared up. There's a lot of apologies from Kiri n Tetsu n a lot of irritated snorts from Baku, but they get straightened out. Baku tells them what kinda show he's running n Kiri inatantly get sparkly eyes like dude!! You do that all by yourself?! That's so manly bro you gotta let us help with that

Baku snorts like you don't have to make empty offers if you wanna use the grounds, I don't refuse people unless they pose an actual threat to the others. You guys aren't dangerous, just stupid. N Kiri goes hey rude, but also it's gotta be a lot dealing with all that on your own. We can at least watch out from above, keep an eye on shit or whatever bc face it man, you may be great but even you can't be in multiple places at once.

And the only reason Baku ends up agreeing is bc they pester him about it until he's well past irritated, n he's figured out the only way to shut them up was concede. They can't be there fulltime anyway consudering their professions, but they're sure to help when they can

Kirichako meet at the gym. Kiri's buying a membership or smth bc you gotta keep the stength up bro! Can't be slacking when you're the difference between someone living n someong dying y'know? Ochako's either in a class or dealing with some hothead, her furrowed brows n puffed cheeks distracting Kiri n reminding him of a chipmunk before bud says smth he can't hear but has Ochako seeing red. It doesn't take long for him to end up on his ass n Kiri's just stuck watching, jaw dropped n heart eyes as Ochako tells the guy he can either fix his attitude or find somewhere else to go

Kiri turns to Tetsu like dude holy shit did you see that?? N Tetsu's like yea bro everyone saw it, n Ochako comes up to them like sorry about that. We have a no harassment policy here that some people overstep, n it sucks that we get people coming in that need it enforced but unfortunately it's pretty common.

Then, bc she's still a bit sour, she looks them both dead in the eyes with a fire raging behind hers like if that's not smth you think you can handle then you might as well save us all the hassle n leave now. N they're both like no way that was great, totally understandable, just tell us where to sign

And while she came off as kinda aggressive during their initial meet, Kiri's quick to find she has just as much sweetness to match her bite. He watches her between sets sometimes n sees how kind n gentle she can be with the younger classes that come in, how she doesn't single out people who struggle n instead moves to help n provide tips without making a huge deal of it

She's also one of the first people to come running when someone gets hurt, he finds out. He'd admittedly been more focused on her sparring with Gunhead than he'd been on the super heavy equipment he was using for his reps, n managed to look over at the perfect time to get flustered n drop it directly on his foot. The resounding crack was loud enough to catch quite a bit of attention, tho he knows the equipment is more likely to be damaged than his foot

Ochako doesn't even hesitate to run over n levitate him to take the pressure off of his not broken foot, going "oh my god are you okay?? Someone clear that bench please, he needs to get off his feet now!" N Kiri does appreciate the concern, as embarassing as it may be, n tries to tell her it's really not a big deal, thanks for the help but honestly--

N she rounds on him like say that one more time n you'll be dealing with a broken nose instead, now sit your ass down n let me handle this!! Kiri can't even reply with anything other than a quiet okay😳😳 bc he's always thought her determination was super admirable, but being this close n seeing it burn in her eyes so intensely is taking it to a whole new level n he has no clue how to handle it

Kacchako meeting is kind of a hybrid mix of the other two combined lmao. Baku owns a pack house where he lives with Deku, then later with Kiri, Tetsu, Mina, Kami, n Sero, but he's so busy with the park that he's hardly ever home. N since Ochako's kinda embarassed about her tiny ass appartment, they usually hang out at the pack house to talk over magic studies or gossip over whatever's happened recently. At this point Baku n Ochako have heard of each other but never been around at the same time

Which causes a problem one day while Ochako's in the kitchen making tea when Baku comes home. He'd had a stressful day warding off poachers or smth, n his rut's just a few days away now, so when he opens the door n is greeted with a slightly unfamiliar scent it sends him into a daze, where he stalks to the kitchen before he even knows that he's moving

Ochako knows tho, can hear the low growls and deliberately quiet steps creeping behind her, setting her on edge bc ohhhh my god, someone just broke into Deku's place holy shit!! And when it gets close enough to barely feel hot breath on the back of her neck she's flinging herself into action, all muscle memory as she gets a few quick jabs into Baku's gut. It knocks the question outta his lungs, getting out a choked "who the--" before her magic kicks in and she's picking him up n slamming him down with his weight returned for maximum momentum, body slamming the following "fUCK!!" out as well before she placed her weight on him to keep him down. She gets right in his face demanding "who are you?! How did you get in here?!"

And when he can breathe again Baku snaps back like "who tf am I?!? I live here!! Who tf are you?!?!" And like, she's still in fight mode so she's looking him over like hmm, so this is Bakugou. Then she realises wtf she's doing n goes oh my god it's Bakugou!! N she's jumping off him and apologising so fast that she's barely saying words, trying to take his hands n help him back up but getting swatted away bc you've done enough touching don't you think??

And yea, Baku's kinda pissed. Being attacked in your own house does that to anyone, let alone a pre-rut alpha. But also, he's kinda impressed, bc he can count on one hand the amount of people who've gotten the drop on him like that, but he'd rather die than admit it out loud. So he just huffs at her with a final "try that shit again n I'll kill you", n stalks off to his room, having more important things to worry about right then than who's fucking around in his kitchen

He rubs the scents of these strong potential mates all over his den, knots his rut aid with his face plastered to the shirts then uses it to scent the shirts even more, drunk off of how well their scents all mix together. He's rightfully embarassed during the end when he can start thinking properly again n throws both shirts to the back of his closet to be forgotten about--as much as his alpha fights him on it--n moves on to his business like normal.

Tho if he tries to be home more often when he knows Ochako's coming around, n spends more time in Kiri's space, nobody's mean enough to comment on it. At least, not at first.))

LMAO that’s why she’s called Kat. She’s not exactly the same as her brother. In terms of being very deadly in combat they’re both pretty similar, yes, they spar often, but Kat won’t go as far as mastering all weapons and picking a fight with strong looking people. Before Ajax fell into the abyss, his desire is to be an adventurer, explore the world and what not. But after the abyss, well things change. Kat knew that the minute she stare in her brother’s eyes, she knew she lost a part of him.

Her going on her merry way, exploring entire nations, meeting interesting people and over all just having a grand adventure was her way of fulfilling a part of Ajax that she thought she lost. She still loves her brother but she doesn’t know how to confront him with the past and the fatui. Speaking of the fatui, it’s not exactly hard to not suspect a few things. Honestly she doesn’t want to know, hopefully it won’t cause her too much in the long run.

For the most part she lived up to her Anemo Vision. She does what she wants with no regrets. Except on the topic of Ajax and his very questionable life choices. And you were right to assume that their parents have their hands full. Ajax likes adventure + Kat likes adventure = sneaking out a lot to have their own little adventures. Never mind the bone chilling climate of Snezhnaya or the fact this twins are getting pretty adept at climbing houses. Nothing stops them from rescuing a dragon and fighting a princess— no wait that doesn’t sound right.

In terms of sending souvenirs she actually doesn’t do that. Unless she’s going home then she’s sending the souvenirs in bulk. But if she’s still in her conquest of 100% exploration, one nation at a time, she’s only sending letters and recipes and for the sake of trolling her brother her will. Alright now for how she met Xiao. It’s actually pretty funny, after befriending Smiley by buttering him up with compliments he agreed to give her tips on cooking and teach her how to make their specialty dish. When she mastered that, it’s obviously going to lead with her making a few modifications here and there.

Once she’s finish with her version of Almond Tofu, she left it at one of the tables that give the best view on the balcony and went to fetch her Kamera. She’s planning on sending a photo to her family and the recipe. She went back to the balcony only to find her that her food is missing. It obviously piss her off that someone had the AUDACITY to steal from under her nose, her room was close to the balcony she would have caught them red handed!

At this point in time, she’s already a regular and a friendly face in Wangshu Inn. She stayed there whenever she investigate Sal Terrae and to collect horsetail for rice buns. So she’s comfortable whining like a child at Verr about how some punk stole her dinner last night. A very amused Verr told her about the Inn’s secret and Kat just dismissed it “Adeptus or not, won’t change the fact that they stole my food. They should learn some manners or something.”

She woke up the next day with an empty plate on her nightstand and a qingxin flower on it. All Kat could think at that moment was ‘Is this an apology or an insult?’ So that night she made an Almond Tofu. Her Almond Tofu. And she meet the adeptus that night as well. An unlikely friendship was born from this. I’m not gonna go into details because it’ll turn into a fic.

In summary though, their friendship dynamic consist of, a very free spirited woman with a Guardian Yaksha for a guard dog best non human friend. When the traveler arrived and also befriend the yaksha Kat wouldn’t help but feel possessive. They befriended him the same way she unintentionally did. So she cooly challenge them to a chess game, because fighting is her brother’s thunder and unlike some people she doesn’t steal anyone’s thunder. Also chess fights is what cool and sophisticated people do.

They were good, more than that! The traveler actually made things challenging and interesting. Before she or the traveler knew it, quite a few hours had pass already. The traveler was close to dozing off but Kat still wants to play. Despite that, her big sister instinct kicking in, she gently coaxed the traveler to rest. She comfort herself that there’s still tomorrow to continue the game.

Uggghhhh I knew I was gonna word vomit about this. Things might get funky in my ‘descriptions’ because it’s honestly getting dangerously close to being a fic.

Yeaaahh these two would totally make their mom go bald and their dad constantly scolding them for their behaviour or something 😭😭 but you know I think its nice that Childe can have a sibling who is similar to him rather than protecting them 24/7 while hiding his secret life. I think they would share each other's burdens from time to time due to how close they are, at least thats the vibe I'm getting at xP Knowing that Kat isn't as extreme as her brother tells me shes probably the one who has to look out for him the most.

Oh would you look at that, now theres two cooks in the family (the moment I found out that Childe can cook was canon had me melt and vaporize 🥺) Maybe both of them would also have cooking sessions than just fighting ones? Thats some wholesome family moments uwu. Your OC kind of reminds me of a mix with Xiangling and Hu Tao because of their cheery vibes, but compared to their bold attitude, Kat sounds more brave (I guess its cuz she grew up with Childe). Xiao is a scary looking guy whom barely anyone goes near, unless they brushed off that glare like dust and just continue being their cheery self (I honestly love that dynamic as you can see xD). But truthfully, Xiao needs someone who is like that because obviously he's too secluded to do it himself ._.

I think his first impressions of her would be "presumptuous" but later he gets used to her company and it even grows on him. Maybe I'm just over analyzing this, the fact they both have anemo visions show how different they handle it's meaning. One wants freedom and the other knows how to live in it (eeek! Okok i stop before this gets off topic). In addition to the traveler coming into the scene, I bet they'll also become good friends too! After all, they both share the burden of loving their siblings too much (perhaps traveler would find some familiarity in her presence).

hiya !! i’m always happy to talk about yamcha and The Character Of yamcha :) gonna put my thoughts under a read more cause this Might be long:

I havent watched Z or Super in a while but I do watch and read through the original Dragon Ball often so accuracy May Vary due to my trash memory. I’m also going to try to keep the games’ depictions of him out of this since accuracy varies among those.

The first thing I wanna touch on is Yamcha’s ego- especially how it evolves over the series. The main thing to keep in mind is that while he is generally cocky about his fighting abilities (which is a major weakness of his as he underestimates his opponents often and gets in trouble because of that), he’s never overly confidant with himself as a person; he seldom tries to paint himself as a better person in comparison to others and rather keeps realistic skepticism about himself. It’s also worth noting that, depending on how old Yamcha is in your depiction, his awareness for his fighting inadequacy compared to his friends varies (the older he is obviously the more conscious he is).

Next thing I’ma talk bout is something that i see kind of treated inconsistently; Yamcha’s relationship with women and his love life. I feel like a lot of people forget that Yamcha’s defining character trait in Dragon Ball was his gynophobia- he chased Goku and his friends so long for the dragon balls so he could remedy his fear of women. Of course, he eventually does date Bulma as they realize dating each other would resolve their mutual wishes for Shenron (Bulma’s being getting a boyfriend and as mentioned before Yamcha’s fear of women). As we’re all aware though, nearly a decade later Yamcha and Bulma mysteriously separate, and the reason for doing so is never explicitly made clear in canon (I could honestly make a whole separate post on Bulma and Yamcha’s break up- there’s a lot to discuss with it so if anyone wants that let me know lmao). The majority believe that Yamcha was unfaithful which, in review of his whole character, makes literally no sense- even just subtracting his fear of women (though I’ll elaborate on that later). But back on track and in regards to his fear of women, it never fully goes away. It just so happens that he’s most comfortable around Bulma, and since Bulma’s the most prominent female character of the series we tend to forget his fear in the first place. When around other female characters, he’s subtlety more anxious- or at the very least he isn’t so much of a playboy as fanon interprets him to be. One final thing to note is- unless I remember the series wrong (and anyone’s free to correct me on this)- Yamcha’s never implied to have gotten another girlfriend or even a lover at any point. Of course it’s hard to track the intricacies of Yamcha’s life- this is a shonen anime where slice-of-life episodes are limited, and even then Yamcha is far from being a prominent character anymore (post Dragon Ball).

Up next is his loyalty/friendships, methods of handling conflict, and overall courage because in my rat brain these all go hand in hand. Nevertheless, Yamcha’s a devoted friend- he’s shown time and time again to be supportive of his pals and, even in spite of his shortcomings, always does his best to help the gang out. Like i touched on before, as Yamcha gets older, he’s more and more aware just how far behind in training he is in compared to his peers. But that doesn’t stop him from trying to fight off whatever threat’s present. So with that we can infer that even if Yamcha can’t be the absolute best, that’s not going to stop him from at least trying if it means helping his friends or making them feel better. Additionally, he’s quick to stand up for others, even if he doesn’t know them too well or even at all and he’s shown not to hold onto grudges. One thing to remember is that, presumably for 16 years, Yamcha’s only companion was Puar (that’s not even considering his life before meeting her) and most interactions he has with people involve robbing them. His social skills might not be the best (though that doesn’t mean he can’t act socially capable- he clearly has no issue trying to make Beerus feel comfortable and like a friend at Bulma’s party) but again, his social skills varies with age and the situation. But again, referring back to his readiness to defend others, he isn’t afraid of getting into conflict if it means helping someone else.

Last few topics I’m going to talk about are his relationships with property, finances, and goals- they seem like a small topics but I still want to talk about it. Now hopefully we’re all familiar with Yamcha’s beginnings of being a desert bandit- and seeing his methods of obtaining items, he didn’t try to charm his victims into giving him their stuff. He just took it if he could if he couldn’t intimidate them and retreated if he couldn’t get what he wanted (which is also noteworthy of Yamcha’s awareness of his limits- a bit contradictory to his fighting ego but it seems that if Yamcha’s certain he isn’t able to win something, then he’ll save himself if it means delaying a goal or staying alive). He doesn’t seem to mind playing the long game either, as he’s willing to tail Goku and co. for months as he waits for them to gather the dragon balls without ever letting his true intentions slip. When it comes to finances, Yamcha doesn’t seem to care to heavily about them: back in the desert, Puar mentions to Yamcha that he should wish for money to which Yamcha dismisses it quickly, stating he could just steal money if he really needed it. It’s also worth noting that despite being a successful baseball player by Super, Yamcha chooses to live in a modest apartment. Either he’s very paranoid with money and, despite having enough to buy a full house, chooses to live in a cheaper apartment building or he’s more comfortable with smaller living spaces- which makes sense since he’d lived nearly two decades in a desert cave and had to scavenge for supplies (plus he seems to still think fondly of the desert as he has a painting of such in his apartment).

For the TL;DR version of this post, here’s essentially what you should keep in mind when portraying yamcha:

He’s generally a very lax, simple, and sociable person when he wants to be- though a bit socially awkward when he isn’t prepared

He’s not egotistical, but he has a bad habit of underestimating his enemies at times. this changes over time of course.

While he’s not itching for conflict, he is loyal and quick to stand up for friends and strangers alike

He acknowledges he isn’t the best, but that doesn’t stop him from trying

He’s ambitious and seldom gives up on his goals

He cares little for huge amounts of wealth or property and generally is just trying to get by in life comfortably

While not cripplingly petrified of women post DB, he still maintains a mild anxiety around women he doesn’t know- even around women he does know pardon Bulma he’s still a bit on edge

I’m done with my character study using the anime and manga, but I like talking about Yamcha so below this little buffer I’m going to get into how the games portray him. I might’ve forgot something or got some things wrong so feel free to talk to me about that if you want to. Anyways, you can stop reading if the above is all you’re concerned with- regardless if you keep reading or not, I wish you the best of luck in writing Yamcha ! :)

Something that seems to be portrayed a significant amount is that Yamcha’s aware of his charm and that he uses this to advantage to smooth talk his way out of situations- not that he just so happens to be good looking and endearing and his panicked socialization just happens to work out for him. In regards to his way of talking out of situations, that’s honestly something I could see if Yamcha acknowledges he’s against a threat much greater than his fighting abilities will allow him to handle- and it’s not like he doesn’t consider himself attractive, if we’re to take his reaction to losing his tooth as anything (in case you aren’t aware, he curses Goku for ruining his “beautiful” face). An example of this is most prominent is his interaction with Frieza in FighterZ, where Frieza remarks that Yamcha is both “handsome and sensible”, to which Yamcha attempts to keep the conversation casual so as to not have to fight (which he later points out to Goku once the latter urges that the three of them should just start fighting already). Though I’m sure his first reaction isn’t to talk his way out of something- he’ll just do it if the opportunity presents itself.

I obviously take huge issue with Yamcha’s portrayal of being a womanizer- his major goal was to settle down, get married, and live out the rest of his life with someone. So for him to be portrayed as having to juggle girlfriends is a bit strange to say the least. You could maybe argue that Yamcha hypes himself up to be a lady’s man as a way to cope with his anxiety (fake it til you make it y’know) but I have little faith in the characterization in Dragon Ball games and for them to think that complexly- plus, again, it contradicts with his humble and awkward personality.

Aside from these two notes, that’s all I have to say. so I’m done- forreal this time.
