i will tell you that this isnt my first rodeo when it comes to mlm ships being shoved into heteronormative gender roles. ive been in the yaoi fandom, ive been in the BL fandom, ive been a weeb since i was aged single digits. im perfectly aware of how deep in mlm ship spaces this issue is. but today's subject of interest is drarry, and why i dont like a certain popular characterisation of drarry.

first of all let's pose the question : why is harry the manly alpha head honcho douchebag dumbass jock ? why is draco the naughty bratty overdramatic babygirl princess ? why do yall feel the need to push harry and draco into these stereotypical gender roles, especially in smut ? whats up with that ?

yes harry is a quidditch guy but that doesnt automatically make him a dumbass jock ? the guy's not stupid. i wont elaborate because i and several others have discussed harry's intelligence in other posts already (will link if asked), but yeah harry's not a "dumbass" or a "himbo", at least not in the way you people love to characterise him as. hes not even trying to be a dominating presence. hell, the guy wants to skeddaddle out of situations 8 times out of 10. hes a rough kind of dude, sure, but thats more for his own protection and not out of a need to dominate or control other people. it's weird and stupid to reduce harry's character just to make him fit yalls' homophobic and heteronormative view of mlm dynamics.

SPEAKING OF THAT, what is up with people overplaying draco's overdramatic tendencies and tying it to being a sub and/or a bottom or being the 'feminine' one in the relationship ? i love my bratty subs as much as the next person (my no.1 blorbo rn is a bratty sub who BITES), but if draco's only a bratty sub because hes an overdramatic princess diva who is so, so helpless without the presence of testosterone in your eyes, you need to reevaluate. yes hes a bit helpless in canon but again he was a kid with no pratical combat experience caught up in a war. + his parents' safety being dangled in front of him who wouldnt be helpess in that scenario ?

people absolutely love to explore draco's gender beyond being masculine and theoretically i love that because i love seeing people interpret characters all over the gender spectrum but there's just something about the popular draco gender exploration that just ,,, irks me, for the lack of a better word. people make him smaller ??? than he actually is ?? more helpless ??? like the height and size difference between drarry in canon isnt that noticeable but by god do people stretch it out to infinity and beyond. to make the fem-coded half of the ship smaller and more helpless and more dramatic is, frankly, toeing the lines of misogynistic if it isnt there already.

and why is it that it's always harry who is hypermasculine and draco who is hyperfeminine ? why not have both be feminine ? both be masculine ? both be all over the gender spectrum ? whyyyyyyy do they have to be male x female coded ??? hello ?????? if i wanted a heterosexual ship, i wouldnt be here

for anyone concerned by my writing style on my posts that my fic(s) might have no capital letters, random capital letters, or some other issue, i just wanted to clarify i type posts and messages very different from stories.

in stories I'll use proper punctuation, capitalization, spelling, and grammar. (at least to the best of my ability) i just couldn't give two shits about that stuff while I'm rambling here.

anyway, so that we're on topic, fiddlestan time below the cut.

I think their relationship is pretty quick to take off but slow to be official. i feel like Stan is so starved for affection that she's scared to acknowledge her feelings, especially since affection is sometimes just "platonic girl stuff". don't worry stan, overly affectionate heterosexual female friends drive me insane too.

on Fidd's part, i think she is hesitant to make things official because at first she's not sure if her feelings are genuine or if she's accidentally using Stan, but once she realized thats not it, she's still hesitant to say anything because she doesn't wanna make Stan uncomfortable if she's not right about her feelings.

Fidds is a people pleaser and unhinged as hell before she uses the memory gun, let alone afterwards, so she for sure has made or aquired some crazy shit as gifts for Stan. She for sure has made her at least one robot that malfunctioned and had to be decommissioned, she bought Stan a fish, I'll do some fish research to figure out what kind later but it has some sort of significance, to occupy the empty tank in the shack since Frilliam is lost at sea. She's probably helped Stan make exhibits and made a cryptid up that reminds her of Stan. I feel like she'd get gifts for Stan constantly, and Stan wouldn't know how to act about it because her instinct is to be skeptical of kindness but Fidds was her sister's friend and she hasn't asked Stan for anything in return and she doesn't know why.

Related to Stan's belief that affection is transactional, if Fidds ever gets nervous about the portal or if Stan keeps something from her, like why she got arrested last night or where she found a part and Fidds says she owes Fidds an explanation, Stan will shut down and probably cry in her room for an hour.

Stan is VERY worried that Fidds is gonna reveal one day that she's only there for some sort of payment or gain on her end, and if she even implies that Stan owes her something, Stan will spiral until Fidds is able to figure out the problem and apologize, even if she agrees that she does owe Fiddleford something for all she's done.

Related to this, there's probably a period of time where Fidds is working really hard, to the bone, for Stan. She hates not feeling useful and may have hit a road block she's trying to push through or something, and when Stan tells her to take a break, she interprets it as a sarcastic "just let me do it, idiot" comment and not the "please take a break im worried about you" way stan intended it, due to the fact Ford, with her one track mind, has been harsh to her in that way before.

Fidds is apologetic and swears she's almost got it she just needs more time and please don't maker her leave she promises she can do it, and Stan has to basically grab her, look her in the eyes, and tell her she just needs to take a break and come back later. Fidds says she just wants to be useful for Stan, and Stan tells her she doesn't care if she's useful, she just needs her there and burning herself out working on the project is not worth it. they have a long conversation about how even if fidds never worked on the project again Stan would still want her around and its sad and fluffy.

also a thing where stan gets frustrated and implies Fidds isnt useful and has to comfort her and insist that isn't what she meant because it genuinely wasn't what she meant agh i love miscommunication hurt/comfort

idk im rambling and i feel like we're all so busy unpacking Stan's trauma we forget that Fidds has very real trauma from her work with Ford that has plenty of hurt/comfort potential as well.

My issue with splitting “physical attraction” and “emotional attraction” is that it does the same naturalising trick that the chromosomes-as-the-symbol-of-sex does - by splitting the emotional from the physical, this implies that physical attraction is natural, without emotion, and by the same token that emotion can exist completely detached from the physical body of the person you emotionally desire. Like I just don’t think this is true! For example, the idea of “casual sex,” ie sex that is devoid of emotion/emotional investment, is a social construction, it is a sexual act that is being contrasted against societal norms of “serious sex” or “invested sex” or whatever you want to call it - sex that is being done in the context of a monogamous, married relationship, or an otherwise exclusive long-term one. the base social unit of much of western society is the nuclear family, and the nuclear family is “ideally” produced by monogamous, cis-heterosexual, racially homogeneous reproductive sex. That is the norm by which all other sexual behaviour and activity is judged by.

and to be clear I’m not using “emotional” in an idealistic or moral sense, I am not using it as a shorthand for romantic feelings, I am purposefully using the language the graphic is using - I mean any emotion. Like just to be super clear, I’m not suggesting that people who have casual sex all secretly love the people they fuck, or that sex has to always be a serious emotional endeavour, or that people who do not feel sexual attraction to the people they have romantic feelings for are secretly lying, but that I don’t think sex is something that can be devoid of emotionality entirely. Like I think we are engaging in this Cartesian body/mind dualism where the physical acts we perform are somehow wholly separate from our emotional states. Pleasure has an emotional component to it, I don’t know how to articulate my experiences with pleasure that do not involve some level of emotionality, and emotionality has a physical character to it. Like in fact I think this graphic is treating emotions as ideal states - it reminds me of like old misogynistic psychological theory that described rationality as an absence of emotion, that to engage in rationality is to move away from emotion. It treats rationality as “out there,” objective, natural, detached from social influence, and emotion as “in here,” in our hearts, ruled by the social. And this distinction is made on the idea that the social world is detached from the physical world, which is pure idealism.

this is not a dismissal or denial of anyone who feels a disconnect between their sexual and romantic desires, such as asexual or aromantic people - while I am neither of those things, I have experienced intense physical desire for the person I’m fucking while actively dissociating during sex as a result of dysphoria/heteronormativity/etc etc. by the same token I have also felt emotionally compelled to be physically attracted to someone without actually feeling physical desire. These are both emotional states that were in conflict with my physical desires, or rather my physical desires as I understood them at the time. our ability to interpret and understand our desires is itself social! otherwise heteronormativity wouldn’t be a thing. We don’t have unmediated, unemotional access to physical desire, which I think this graphic is arguing, intentionally or not.

so having complicated, contradictory, disconnected, or otherwise ‘non-normative’ relationships to our emotional states vis a vis physical desire is obviously very real, and the reason they are real is because physical desire is also socially mediated and constructed. What and who we find attractive, why types of bodies, physical and character traits, etc are attractive to us are all part of (joker voice) society.

now, idk how you easily communicate this in graphic format. perhaps these things are unsuited to the medium of easily digestible graphics, or perhaps I’m limited in my imagination. either way I don’t think bifurcating emotional-desire-as-social and physical-desire-as-natural is particularly helpful

Don't mind me getting on my soapbox for a moment... a lot of this musing is admittedly for the sake of my own processing of this topic, re: aroaceness. Read at your own peril! <3

I'm generally a very "ship and let ship" kind of person, but I think I would definitely append a little caveat of, like, "As long as you're not being actively invalidating and detrimental to others" to that. Which is a delightfully vague statement that can be interpreted practically any way, I know, hahaha.

In the case of this particular post I've just been thinking about how, like... seeing an aroace character like Alastor get written into dozens upon dozens of PWPs (including ones that don't even touch on the subject of his aceness at all) is really not something that I personally find to be hurtful or offensive. It's just smut for the sake of smut, of a character people want to see awful, sexy things done to (or doing). Valid! I vibe with you! More people should just write the PWPs they want to see in the world!

But on the other hand, I've several times seen this very particular type of art (usually it's a comic, but admittedly I haven't been reading very many Hazbin Hotel fics so maybe it's there, too) where Alastor is slotted into the "methinks the lady doth protest too much" trope. As in, he's expressing strong feelings about a character (usually Vox or Lucifer, sometimes Angel Dust) to someone, probably Rosie, and the person he's confiding to is some variant of, "Oh, silly Alastor, you're obviously in love!" And then he denies it, says that the very idea disgusts him, and the character titters to themselves about how he's so naive in the matters of romance or whatever.

And it's, like.

The "strong feelings" in question are almost always frustration/annoyance/disgust, and him being like, "Nnnno, I just hate his person" is treated like a silly and naive misunderstanding of his own feelings because obviously he's in love. Please imagine that Alastor was a female character who was established to be a lesbian. Now examine how that suddenly makes this scene feel.

(Also, Rosie being the go-to for this is a little frustrating when she's the one who, in canon, explicitly says that she wouldn't make that assumption of him.)

There's such a chasm of difference between how I see people wanting to ship Alastor for reasons of "I just want to!" vs folks who engage with him being aroace in ways that are infantilizing and invalidating. There are so many people out there - not just aro/ace people, but anyone who's not exclusively into the standard type of person they should be into at the time society deems they should be into them, which is most queer people and even many cishet folks - that have been told that exact kind of thing in real life. It reads like something out of a compulsory heterosexuality guidebook, and it actively makes it harder to leave the closet or even realize that you're in one at all.

So I guess it just feels frustrating to see it get made into a punchline, especially by folks who are shipping queer ships. I genuinely can't wait until fandom society advances to the point of consistently treating aro/acespec folks as queer instead of Queer Lite (TM), because let me tell you, ime the comphet experience and the amato/allonormativity experience are in fact nigh-identical except for how they're treated within online communities. There's a reason the pan -> gay -> ace pipeline is a thing.

yeah its the kiss scene. blasted me right out of the ride. sayama just lost her father less than 12 hours ago, admits shes emotionally shaky, and the writer decides kiryu should go in for a kiss right there?

in normal situations thats just sexual harassment. and i still dont feel the chemistry bc yk2 kiryu is behaving awfully weird around women in this entry. the things he does and say sometimes crosses into sexual harassment more than once. its so weird.

dude's behaving like he's got depression from losing yumi and nishiki the year before, dealing with significant social awkwardness and just does that. after repeatedly pulling away from girls who are into him in the cabaret social outings. o<-< whats going on.

my current question being, is he unintentionally treating sayama as a rebound bc she resembles yumi physically?

i see the hint of reused tropes with yumi. the same trope of how they're both beautiful. yumi with her gekka bijin and sayama with multiple characters commenting on her beauty multiple times. the age too, matches up with roughly yumi's before kiryu got sent to jail in y1, being mid 20s.

i also cant really accept the age part. kiryu is 39. sayama is 25. sayama is also an overachiever and these types tend to be more naive and inexperienced when it comes to dating and relationships. its a little... hm.... nnmmmmmnmng. hm.

anyway, if he is using sayama as a rebound thats leaning into evil on the ethical heterosexuality scale. not as bad as yumi getting killed -- bc how dare she moved on instead of waiting for kiryu? bad faith interpretation here yes, but a plausible interpretation nevertheless.

this is definitely some kind of weird bad writing and i cant get behind it at all.

i also dont know why they didnt add sayama into minigames and write more banter fluff if she's mean to be the romance interest for kiryu. there's nothing. i can invite majima who happily hops by despite having to juggle 3 VERY big jobs, but i cant invite sayama? we have a little mechanic of increasing haruka's affection by doing her requests but all sayama gets is cutscenes...? really....? at least try...

none of these alone would be a deal breaker necessarily, bc they do actually mesh well on the surface level. there was a few scenes that made me cheer for them. but there's too much when its all added together that it cant save the bad payoff.

there is actually so much going on that im wondering if kiryu's actually into women at all, and in fact, not seeing them all as harukas. 🤔

also now looking back at that bucket list scene in y8: sayama. im sorry. the writers should have given you a life beyond yk2 and allowed you to move on.

ive personally gotten over the flaws in sanjis articulation and i understand what i think is the intent behind his character but i remember for like months past watching one piece originally i did not get it at all (i have a semi popular post about my friend getting him immediately while shading people who don't but that's me, i was that person) and i had to play around with interpretations of him to truly settle on what i think is concretely understanding him.

the reason, partially, for my original trepidation is twofold,

one, shonen does not have a good track record.

two, more personally, it's kind of insulting to the audience to expect this character who you've established has a relationship with women that has it's pros and cons (i always go back to the arlong park articulation of zoro respecting nami enough to see her as a threat and sanji because she's a woman, willing to look past what is obviously a mental breakdown from someone whos struggling. that was like the best articulation oda couldve done it all goes downhill from there) and like fully acknowledge inherently the social injustice that women face within that, while also doing the social injustice. it's hypocritical.*

ive taken to just categorically ignoring the pervert jokes and pretending we never progressed past pre ts sanjis jokes (which by the way and i say this with every spiteful bone in my entire body, were FUNNIER. it is such a fucking crime that sanji a character that had SO many consistently funny jokes because he is an hilarious comedy character, gets absolutely no funny jokes. the most recent funny joke he's had is egghead but before that it wasn't for years that he had a funny joke.) because the good thing and also the function of the sanji jokes especially as they relate to nami is that nami can and does cushion how creepy he comes off. they are in a weird consensual heterosexual chicken game and it says something about them that they treat eachother like this. unfortunately when you reduce sanjis jokes down to pervert anime jokes you also loose their back and forth which hurts namis characterization and as i've said before. the group dynamic is everything. you cannot hurt it it is sacred or one pieces quality declines (post timeskip)

*This is also a similar way that one piece as a story treats abuse more broadly. There's this thing that I call in my head "intent is effect" logic where basically if a character had good intent dot tm they're forgiven for abuse by the narrative and their abuse is played off as a joke (garp) or you're judge (the most evilest man on the planet which btw did you know all abusers are evil and not complicated human beings /s) (do NOT interpret me as saying this as a hashtag abuse apologist thing i will kill you. i am a persona 5 fan, ideologically.) i would pretty much definitively say that uh the same logic is applied to sanjis sexual assault/harassment jokes, as they are a type of abuse. and uh that's bad. it's shitty on all accounts for sure.

although im sure id become more fuelled by rage and question the stability of my own opinions if i watched the shittier parts of post TS again, I'll eventually get there in my rewatch don't worry.

i liked a lot of barbie but…so on the nose. and obv it’s the barbie movie so it won’t be as nuanced as some other ones but like, cmon. the reason everyone is obsessed with ken is that his brainwashing makes sense. barbie’s arc is so much less well thought out

idk if i agree that it couldn’t be ’more nuanced’ because it’s greta gerwig and i’ve seen all her other work. if anyone could do it it’s her

it’s not like i expected barbie to end patriarchy obviously but i just thought it would do one single radical thing.

these are a few things that would’ve made it more nuanced by just not adding them in the film (and by removing it, making it more nuanced):

1. glorias husband existed solely for the reason to say that gloria was heterosexual (i don’t think i’d be this disappointed if he just. didnt exist and barbie was in the front seat at the end of the film, leaving the audience to interpret on their own what kind of family dynamic the three of them had created/therefor challenging the nuclear family).

he shouldn’t have existed, served no purpose other than to ensure the hetero norm and the nuclear family

2. glorias monologue was also tired and repeated and just done before and i wanted more. it didn’t cover anything that hasn’t been covered before and it just left me feeling sad and disappointed. if its a film based on feminism and patriarchy, go all the way or atleast do something new

3. gloria even told barbie that she shouldn’t apologize to ken, reminding barbie that he brainwashed the barbies and tried to overthrow the government. and then she still did? she still had to fight him trying to kiss her while still also apologizing? while still doing the emotional labour for him as women do for men. she shouldn’t have apologized like. just not apologizing would’ve made it more nuanced/radical

4. ’one day the kens will have the same power in barbieland just like women in the real world!’ and for what? they brainwashed, took advantage of women and tried to overthrow the government. women in the real world have never tried to do that / and if i so much as tell a man that i think women deserve rights im being a boring feminist ruining the mood. im certainly not being rewarded for it.

they shouldve removed that line, instead of ending the film in mens favor and patting them on the back

by not adding these lines, plots or characters the film would’ve been much more nunced in my opinuon so its not a question on how it ”should’ve done more” bc doing more in this case just ruined it

so like i first even heard abt asexuality (not aromanticism) when i was nine when i told a schoolmate that i hated the idea or couples and he said "oh but you'll end up being a sad asexual" and i looked at him for a sec processing it and thought "oh if homosexual and heterosexual exist i suppose asexual is a thing then?" and answered yeah sure man asi interpreted asexual with the definition of aroace

it wasnt until months later that i realized that aro and ace were diff stuff etc etc and i said that sure then im ace but theres no way im aro nahhhhhh wdym no way

then like a month after that a person asked me what did falling in love was like and i gave the most ridiculously aro answer like "is a mix between platonic but wanting also to live all your life with them" and i got ROASTED like 2 more ppl told me thats not how it worked and then i realized oh man i was really aro the whole time huh nine year old me has it was simpler they just said no and went on

i agree with this interpretation of barbie as a character but my guess is that if someone says “barbie was disappointingly heterosexual” they were more likely talking about the perspective and messaging of the film itself, not the character barbie who literally never expresses attraction to men (or anyone for that matter). it’s definitely possible they were actually referring to barbie the character, there are people out there who see any character who doesn’t explicitly express attraction to their same gender and automatically interprets that character as straight, and im sure op would know better than me in this specific incident where i didn’t see what they’re talking about, but in my view the film itself IS disappointingly heterosexual, so it would make much more sense for someone to say that and mean barbie the film, than for them to mean barbie the character

edit to clarify: while i definitely see barbie as aro and likely aroace from the film and what the artists involved have said about her character’s sexuality, i say that the film’s perspective/messaging is heterosexual because it never addresses queerness directly and, despite my affinity for this interpretation of barbie herself, it doesn’t really feel intentional in the writing, it’s almost incidental. she’s aroace because she doesn’t need ken, not because she just isn’t interested in sex or romance; although she definitely expresses no interest in either, she doesn’t outwardly express that she has no interest, and absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. there’s a trans actress playing one of the barbies, but the story wouldn’t change if she was played by a cis actress, and it’s never directly stated nor meaningfully shown through imagery that the barbie herself is also trans. all of the barbies and kens are paired together in opposite gender relationships, even including the main barbie herself despite that relationship not being meaningful to her. when dissecting the patriarchy, gloria only really refers to how men see women they’re attracted to, and much less how they see women in general, although it is mentioned—it’s framed as freeing the barbies from the patriarchy in their relationships and the way that they defeat the kens’ patriarchy is extremely heterosexual as well. barbie says she has no vagina, but then clarifies that she has no genitals, which is because she’s a doll, and when she becomes human the first and last thing we see her do is go to the gynecologist, implying that when she became human she also got a vagina and the associated reproductive system. some people have said that maybe she got gender assignment surgery, and while that’s plausible, i don’t think it was the intention. no matter how you slice it, this story is not making a point of being an intentionally queer story, and is told from a White CisHet Feminist lens.

I'd say its partially due to Venus influence making people "more feminine than their peers commonly are" as well as Scorpio's general mysterious vibe. It makes it hard for people to pin point what you do and don't like because you exuded "I exist 🧚🏿‍♀ Im an experience🧚🏿‍♀" energy.

Yukako is The personification of comphet lesbianism im so serious about this. 

As an important disclaimer, I’ll really only be talking on my experiences and how I interpreted her character. Comphet can get really complex, and it’s such a personal feeling so I can really only talk for myself, and how I related to Yukako in this specific aspect. Obviously you can think otherwise, but this is just how I see her. Plus this is just self indulgent since I like talking lol. 

ok so first thing before I go insane about her. Compulsory heterosexuality  [usually just shortened to comphet] is “the societal nudge that pushes folks into opting into heterosexual relationships regardless of whether or not they truly desire to do so,” according to Cheyenne M. Davis. Specifically to lesbianism, Angeli Luz (from the Am I a Lesbian? masterdoc) defines it as “Compulsory heterosexuality is what forces lesbians to struggle through learning the difference between what you’ve been ​taught ​you want (being with men) and what you ​do ​want (being with women), which is why so many lesbians have dated men at some point.” Admittedly, I don’t like the Am I A Lesbian? masterdoc too much, but I think it’s a good starting point for those who are questioning.

I’ve had many personal experiences with comphet, specially from my latino upbringing. I’ve unfortunately forced myself into relationships with guys because that’s what I was taught to do. I didn’t enjoy a single of those experiences, many times I had to think of my boyfriends as girls to get any sort of happiness. This led to some of the most awful experiences of my life. While talking to other lesbians, a lot of us can agree that it’s way different finding out you like women vs finding out you don’t like men. What I’m trying to say: comphet will make you do the craziest shit for the sake of denial.

Now, how does this relate to Yukako Yamagishi? We saw how obsessed she was with Koichi, literally going to the extreme of kidnapping him. Something I noticed is that she was setting the most impossible standards, so when she saw how he fit these specific characteristics [such as: his friendliness, politeness, being extremely reliable] she quickly began to obsess over him. When she found out he didn’t have perfect grades in english and math, she raised those standards again and tried to put him in her ‘perfect guy’ box again. Something that happened to me, and can also be described as comphet, is making up an imaginary guy that’s completely perfect [aka. someone who doesn’t exist] to be like Yeah I Totally Like Guys I Promise. She was also making shit up in that one scene at the café like “Koichi, I’ve noticed your face looks much more defined lately! You have such a confident and courageous demeanor. But when you smile, your face becomes so cute!” best friend you are so lonely you’re just trying to have a friend.

She also has such a fixation on perfection, and let’s be honest in a society where lack of relationships is seen as a personal failing, she immediately latched onto Koichi. She saw being drawn to him [yaknow, as a stand user] being like “ah! I am friends with a guy. I must love him because this is what I’m supposed to do”. She’s so strict because she needs everything to seem like her ‘reality’ of perfection. She becomes controlling and jealous over Koichi for these reasons.

This personality of perfection really shows the most in the Cinderella arc. She is known to literally have no friends, so she completely surrounds herself with the only ‘friend’ she has aka Koichi. She bases her entire identity on him because she has nothing to lose. In the Cinderella arc, it’s so explicitly shown she has no sense of identity, with the biggest example of her not being able to recognize her own face. When is Yukako forcing herself to be with Koichi, it doesn’t work so what she does is try to change everything about her appearance because in her mind, she’s unlovable otherwise. 

Something I need to mention, Yukako’s writing isn’t... Very good. This isn’t even me being mad being like “well this story isn’t exactly how I wanted it, so it’s bad” but her arc is the last thing that should’ve happened. The goal of Cinderella shouldn’t have been “well Yukako and Koichi got together now! happily ever after <3″ Yukako should’ve learned to love herself and actually apologize for the shit she did to Koichi. She never had an actual consequence of her actions so she doesn’t actually have to change her ways. In my opinion, her character development would’ve been so much more fulfilling if she had actually grown and realized that the only person she needs to make happy is herself, and she grew past her goal of proving to herself that she is capable of being loved by other people. She only stayed in that cycle of perfection at the end because she achieved her ‘goal’ of being liked by Koichi. 

Going back to my point of her being a lesbian, she literally says she likes Koichi because of his potential. I’m gonna be honest, that’s not a very #straight thing to say. She liked the idea of what he could be, not really of who he actually is. I interpret this as a moment of denial, she’s trying so damn hard to make herself like him that she fantasizes a fake version of him where he’s perfect.
