We each have our gods, but the dark gods are an accepting bunch. I can bring your name on our lips, sing praises to your gods in battle. Accept them as one in our pantheon.

But.

I ask not that you submit to me. But to fight along side me. To come and wage war. There are those who require aid, whose spirits must be lifted. Your flock, they carry the will of the gods themselves. Let their voices fill the air with their hymns as we clash against the tyrant.

Do stand with us oh humble lord. Will you fight along side us for true freedom?

I stand here, a humble servant of the gods themselves, asking for aid. I kneel to thee. For your voice, your authority. It is weight that can decide the fates of many. I shall await your answer with bated breath oh lords. I hope you will make the right decision.

We appreciate your offer of an alliance and we shall agree as long as you will fight for our lands aswell.

On January 30, 1933, Adolf Hitler was appointed Chancellor of Germany. 96 days later on the morning of May 6, 1933, a group of young university students forced their way into the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft in Berlin where they proceeded to violently assault its staff and destroy records and property inside the building. Later that afternoon, they were joined by SA troopers who systematically emptied the library before Berlin police arrived that evening to declare the Institut permanently closed. For queer people worldwide, this event has been likened to the destruction of our own Library of Alexandria; indeed, some of the most infamous images of the intellectual purges associated with the rise of Nazism in the early 1930's come from the burning of the Institut's library, among other confiscated works, 4 days later.

At the time of this writing (Feb 5, 2025), just over 16 full days into the second Trump Presidency, we already have witnessed a stunning opening salvo in a war by the new administration against our community including (but certainly not limited to) a purge of any mentions of transgenderism from all federal government web pages, a blanket ban against flying "activist" flags on the grounds of any US embassies worldwide, declaration of the wholesale legal nonexistence of nonbinary genders, denial of new passports to and indefinite withholding of existing passports from transgender citizens, imposition of new rules directly targeting the sole transgender member of Congress, stripping of HIV- and HRT-related resources from the CDC website, and pausing federal activities and observances of "DEI" federal holidays including Pride Month and Holocaust Remembrance Day. There is no reason to believe that the rapid pace of anti-LGBTQ+ action by the federal government will be tempered any time soon, and will likely in fact accelerate, be codified into law, and permitted even broader powers of enforcement as new bills are advanced by the Republican-controlled Congress in the coming weeks. It is, I think, no exaggeration to state that queer history, and especially trans history, is facing a direct and targeted threat of a scope which is unprecedented in my 30 year lifetime.

In response to this increasingly existential threat, I will be contributing to a broader effort already begun by others: the archival and private dispersal of literature pertaining to the history, science, and cultural heritage of the queer community. The aim is to gather local copies of selected works to a location not connected to the internet in order to, in my own small way, protect them from any possible future purges from antagonistic actors, government or otherwise, beginning with collection of a personal microlibrary of written and photographic materials from online repositories. In the next few days as I begin to amass a small collection of materials, I will make available an index of the titles I have gathered and will periodically update this index as its scope expands. Anybody interested is encouraged to contact me directly to request copies of any of the collected materials.

The library will never be made available directly online (ex Google Drive, etc) since this would be in violation of their terms of service and could expose me to legal trouble; however, it is reasonable to expect that one or more torrents will be made available for select materials and/or collections in the future. My vision is to contribute to a broader decentralized repository of our knowledge and history that is wholly safe and inaccessible to those who might have motivations to harm it. As the project matures, it may necessitate creation of its own dedicated blog for link sharing and content updates, so please keep an eye out for a future post on that front.

In the meantime, I ask the following of you:

First and foremost, keep yourself safe. Maintenance of historical documents is important, but you are the living embodiment and the breathing culmination of the history of our community. Your safety and well-being is the entire point of this project and the purpose that every queer activist before you has fought for. Please do not take any action that puts you or a loved one in harm's way, legal or otherwise; there are enough people trying to harm us right now already.

Boost, reblog, blaze, whatever this post to help me reach as wide an audience as possible. This project is intended to be a community resource and is a waste of time if it is inaccessible to its target audience. Moreover, it is intended to be something bigger than myself and I expect to need some help; see more below.

If you are aware of relevant online archives or repositories which already exist, please send me a comment, message, or ask to let me know about them.

Consider donating your time by downloading available copies of relevant materials from freely and legally available sources such as Project Gutenberg or the Internet Archive and sharing those with me directly.

Install a VPN on your computer as one to protect the privacy of your internet traffic. I personally use Private Internet Access (a paid service) on my Windows computer and OpenVPN on my Linux devices. On a related note, please, please don't use Google Chrome.

Install and use TOR when accessing any and all potentially sensitive internet locales.

Consider wholesale download and creation of a backup and copy of the archive (either in full or in part) on your own private device, especially if you live outside the US. Furthermore, make those resources known and available to any and all interested parties.

Consider beginning or expanding your own personal microlibrary and making it accessible to others in our community. If you're interested, I encourage you to start by reading the recent piece (pdf version) by Bethany Karsten on the topic. Anybody interested in developing their own collection is of course welcome to reach out with any questions you may have, with the disclaimer I'm not by any means an archivist or a data security expert.

On a final note, I won't mince words, things suck a lot right now and its perfectly reasonable to be discouraged. As long as Russia exists there won’t be peace for its neighbors. Interpret that as many ways as you want. Whether it can mean that Russia gets completely levelled with nukes, or it disintegrates into dozens of little states, or it conquers everything and eliminates everyone in its path, as long as Russia exists there won’t be peace for its neighbors, so either it goes or all of its neighbors.

And also the Russian identity must disintegrate because it is based on the idea of Russia as a great power. Russians must “convert” into Muscovians, Peterburgians, Krasnodarians, Voronezhians, Vladivostokians, etc. The idea of a Russian ethnicity must cease to exist or else it will forever fuel imperial ambitions and fight for the reestablishment of a great Russia.
