Of course he knew Charles loved him, just as much as he loved Charles, but hearing him say it so bluntly, so passionately, had Erik’s heart swelling. He leaned down to match Charles’ line of sight, resting his hands on either side of his wheelchair for stability. He met their foreheads, gently pressing them together, his eyes closed as he soaked in the moment. He had always imagined himself being in control of this situation whenever he’d pictured it in the past, but Charles had beaten him to it, and Erik was perfectly satisfied with that.  “Yes,” he answered softly. Then, he was kissing Charles deeply, cupping his cheek, and melting against his lips. He finally pulled away, if only for the sake of catching his breath, and panted out, “Of course I’ll marry you, liebling.”

SCARS FOR CHARLES

There was a time, Charles remembered (a lifetime ago now) that he would've flinched at his reflection in the mirror. Where he tried to hide the scars littering his body with facial hair and too many layers. While he'd ultimately decided to keep the beard (it disguised that boyish face he no longer felt suited him) sitting on the sofa in a tee-shirt while his husband traced the raised flesh snaking down his arm was the norm these days. What were once marks of shame and suffering reminded Charles now that he'd survived. He'd lived through hell and tamed the devil himself and here they were, so many long years later, living their quiet happily ever after.

A delicate sigh followed by a small smile slid out into the open. Charles leaned into Erik's side, head on his shoulder.

"You know that tickles," he mused, but he closed his eyes, focusing on the featherlight touch. 'You're beautiful, Charles.' Erik told him once, a long time ago when the world seemed too large and he himself too frightened to stand on his own. 'All of you. I mean it.' Scars, stutter, darker secrets and all. He hadn't believed the other man then. Now, he cherished the words as dearly as the love between them.

i love it when characters are codependent. i love it when losing someone feels like losing a limb. i love it when two people "complete" each other so wholly and terribly that one can barely function without the other. i love it when the fear of losing the only person who understands them is so all-consuming they'll destroy anything to stay together, including themselves.

Don't make excuses. Just say you're homophobic. And if you really aren't homophobic, if you don't like the ship for other reasons, not because they are two men/two women, just directly say "I don't like them because X" but don't use those arguments because if you do I'm just gonna assume you're queerphobic. I don't know, use the "I don't like the trope of their relaitonship" "I prefer another couple". But don't use the "they're just friends" because that argument is so overused.

Poor man. (This thought is only a little sympathetic, mostly entertained.) While Charles is still reeling, Magnus may come up behind him, squeeze his shoulders, and lean in to steal a quick kiss.

"Is that what we're calling each other these days?" he murmurs. It's possible that he's charmed by that little slip and the cover-up that follows. One more stolen smooch - he can hardly contain himself. "Very cute, if not a little ridiculous."

Charles relaxes a little under the attention, that flustered feeling however is certainly not going anywhere. If anything it's only worsened as Magnus deems it fit to murmur to him with such amusement over the matter that it feels a little ridiculous to have gotten worried about it in the first place. Despite his best efforts, a light flush reaches his features - what a ridiculous thing for a man of his age. -- ❝As true as it may be, I think it may raise some eyebrows for the team if that did become the case.❞ He chuckles lightly, glancing up at him and reaching out a hand to linger against his cheek as he leans in for another kiss. ❝Absolutely ridiculous, I'll try to mind my words better in the future.❞
