snippet from the starter pokemon ofa au, ft. duo holders & their dragon-turned-fat hedgehog mole thing (Cyndaquil!). wc: ~550

a/n: Cyndaquil Community Day 2024, I will never forget you being timed for a literal 108 F heat wave. THREE SHINY CYNDAQUIL, AND NOT A ONE OF THEM 3-STARRED.
//
The first thing Kudou realized was that Yoichi’s big fucking dragon was gone. The second thing Kudou realized was the tiny, stubby-limbed thing squirmed between him and Yoichi, whose snores were being unusually muffled. And the last thing Kudou realized before he would bolt upright was the spattering of open flames that flickered on and off in quick succession.
“Fuck--! Yoichi--!” he yelled, and instinctively shoved Yoichi away. His alarm woke up the creature, who let out a tiny screech and wobbled up on all fours, whose back ignited into a steady flame this time.
“Charizard!” Yoichi gasped, and then froze. One of his long-fingered hands clutched for his belly. Quick calculations went on behind those green eyes, and he nearly was too late to prevent Kudou from yanking his gauntlet on and training its sights onto the creature. “No, wait! Kudou, wait!”
They wrestled for the gauntlet’s straps.
“Get your meta ability to eat it!”
“That is my meta ability!” Yoichi exclaimed, and Kudou was so stunned, he accidentally let Yoichi clip his jaw with a pointy elbow. “Oh, no, I’m so sorry--”
“It changed forms again?”
“Well, I…” Yoichi hesitated. He was sprawled over Kudou, limbs comically attempting to wrap him up, and from this angle, Kudou could hardly read the man’s expression. They heaved for breath; Kudou thought his head was ringing, just a little. “Um… Leader… do you feel alright?”
“No?” Incredulity colored his response. “There’s some kind of rat in our bed, and it’s on fire, like your… meta ability…”
“My brother’s meta ability--”
“No. No. Don’t tell me.”
The creature stumbled in the sheets, attempting to approach. Its squat stature did not permit it to overcome one particular crease, and it tripped with a piteous little wail. Seeing it sprawled out on its belly, frustratedly squeaking, stirred some measure of sympathy in Kudou’s heart.
“It’s so cute,” Yoichi cooed, apparently enthralled.
“Why is your meta ability now mine, that’s the bigger issue!” Kudou cringed away from Yoichi as his now-lover scooped up the creature with zero fear, and plopped it on Kudou’s chest. It felt like a fuzzy hot water bottle. It squeaked again.
“What’s its name?”
“How’d you know Charizard’s? Bruce and I could guess how you got Charmeleon out of the lizard’s sounds, but Charizard’s were way more incoherent.”
“Mm,” Yoichi hummed, and carefully rubbed the creature’s fine-haired scalp with a finger. “I suppose it came from the bond. Do you feel it? Between you and… whatever One for All is now?”
Kudou frowned. He closed his eyes, and tried to isolate his immediate feelings of shock and worry from… aha. It had been so difficult to explain to Yoichi what meta abilities, naturally-appearing ones at least, felt like to their users’ innate senses. Gearshift was something like a gust of air, exhaled with deliberate attention, paired with a twinge in Kudou’s temple as he focused on a specific object.
One for All, apparently, felt like a crackling warmth in his core, and instantly, Kudou knew that he could replicate that otherworldly red bolt that Yoichi used to recall his meta ability to a different dimension. And then, he knew the creature’s name.
“Cyndaquil,” Kudou said aloud, and the fat little thing squeaked in acknowledgment. It nestled firmly by his collarbone. Never before had Kudou felt so gratified that Yoichi’s monster--Yoichi’s evidently transferable meta ability--wasn’t subject to mortal indignities.
“So cute,” Yoichi said again.

👏👏 tuxedo mask sorahiko!! en's way too smug about landing a useless boyfriend.
after a quick dip in the sailor moon wiki... i am more lost than i was before. maybe the majority of the holders/sorahiko are college undergrad age, toshinori's still in high school (and connected bc he takes college-level classes on the side), and chibideku... well who knows where he came from.
I am also tormented for some reason with the concept of sailor jupiter Toshi. Not sure why but I think something about the idea of him wearing a fun little lightning rod between his bangs might be it

I envision p!noah being like little buddy from the splatoon series
Owen throws him at people and he will bite them until they shake him off or go unconscious whichever is first
Will also probably dig stuff out of the ground that he can just detect for whatever reason
Apologies, I got splatoon brainrot really hard and all I think of when I hear “little buddy” is that little bastard salmon
I really need to play Splatoon 3. I love that series but I just haven't had the time or energy to get into the newest game.
And you're spot on there about p!Noah being Owen's little buddy, especially post "reveal".
-
In Greece, these two would make a killer duo for the wrestling challenge since Owen could and would just scoop up Noah and throw him at the opposing team, encouraging him to run wild. And, oh boy, can p!Noah go wild.
Now, both Courtney and Sierra are pretty overconfident in their assured win for this challenge, since Courtney assumes that Noah and Owen are both relatively harmless (since she didn't witness the bus scene) and Sierra's too hyped up on Defending Cody Juice to really care about who she's facing off against - her main priority here is taking our Courtney for disrespecting Cody. Which is their downfall, since when Noah's launched towards the pair like a missile by Owen, neither of them anticipate the sheer carnage he wreaks upon landing. The two of them come out of the challenge with cuts and bruises aplenty, scattered bite and scratch marks still bleeding sluggishly as they scamper out of the ring tailed by a manic bookworm hot on their heels.
Courtney especially never would've thought the little guy had it in him; the wildness of his eyes and the shine of blood against razor-sharp teeth really painted a picture of a feral beast, as opposed to the generally well-kept and mild cynic she'd come to know. She finds herself genuinely fearing for her wellbeing, at least for a moment.
Then, as the girls exit the ring, Noah stops suddenly. He comes to a standstill at the edge of the ring, centimetres away from disqualifying himself, and all signs of his unhinged mania vanish like smoke. Noah lifts himself from the near four-limbed scampering he'd been doing into his usual nonchalant crouch, brushing the dust from his vest, patting down his hair and (reluctantly) wiping the speckles of blood from his nails and teeth. Regaining his usual composure. Then he turns on his heels to saunter across the ring back over to Owen, who at this point is used to Noah's scarily quick code-switching and greets his carnage-wreaking little buddy with a smile, a thumbs up and a big ol' hug! They won the challenge, after all, that's means for celebration!
(When Gwen comes back from her challenge, she asks Courtney what savage animal she was attacked by - as both Courtney and Sierra look about as worse off as Duncan, who was mauled by a bear - and Courtney promptly answers that she doesn't want to talk about it.)
-
I imagine Owen and Noah's dynamic post-London would essentially be the two of them acting like a dog owner and their overzealous puppy, but they switch roles so often the lines get super blurred. One moment Noah's trying to bribe Owen into taking the fall for him with the sweet treats from first class (it works every time), the next Owen's daring Noah to do something dumb and stupid and just dangerous enough to pique his thrill-seeking interest. They share a braincell and neither of them use it.

Fun asks! 😺
14. where do you get your inspiration?
Reading, watching shows, playing video games, taking walks--everywhere, really. I love learning things, making connections, and synthesizing them into my own creations. Sometimes, my creations will even inspire me to make more, such as when my Xiao Ruojin/Jin Xuan art inspired me to write a fic for them, and then that fic inspired me to draw more art of them.
17. talk about your writing and editing process
My first step is to decide whether to create a new document to start writing, or if I want to start off the fic in the low-pressure "doodling" document. "doodling" is where I try to write the fun parts and/or get down whatever ideas I have. It's fine if that's all I do with them. If it grows into something more, or if months pass and I start thinking about the idea fairly often, then I may choose to transfer it to a fresh document.
That brings us to step two: the writing. I try to write whenever I feel in the mood to do so, which happens fairly often, as it's usually my go-to activity for enjoyment. It takes reflection to realize when I don't feel like writing, and if so, I'll either partake in a different creative activity or fill my creative well by watching a show or reading. Anyways, when I am in the mood to write, I'll try to make myself comfortable and minimize distractions if needed (or gauge what level of distraction may be helpful). If I'm stuck with a fic, I'll either figure out where I stopped vibing with it, or I'll set it aside. If I've finished the draft, and I don't feel particularly enthused by its state, I'll put it in a folder to let it simmer however long it needs to.
Finally, editing. Often, I'll edit it as I go, as I care a lot about details and word choice. If I'm returning to an old draft, the first thing I'll do is edit as I reread to get reacquainted with it. Also, before I go to Ao3, I'll do a reread and edit, then once I'm on Ao3 I'll reread and edit. Then I'll preview it and reread it, and I'll see if there's any further edits to be made. Once I'm satisfied, I'll publish it.
19. the most interesting topic you’ve researched for a fic
Unsurprisingly, eunuchs 😸 Not for a specific fic, but overall, learning about them in history has increased my confidence in writing about fictional ones. I've read a lot about them, and I find them incredibly fascinating. One book I would recommend is The Eunuchs in the Ming Dynasty by Shih-Shan Henry Tsai.

HI HELLO I saw your arcana swap au and now im intrigued as hell
If you have anything to share about it uhm hi 🙏
ooh okay okay okay!
ive drafted a whole list of the phantom thieves/the hamburgulars but due to like 3 of them not having codenames i haven't posted it. however its p much the same as canon p5r just with the arcanas swapped and the plots slightly altered (palace rulers no 2, 4, 5, 6 & 8 are different)
so right now i have 6 chapters published on ao3 under the name The Butterfly Effect and tbh im quite proud of the story so far! i love fool!yusuke and the rest of the starting team are a joy to write (esp chariot!makoto and lovers!futaba, who have a really fun dynamic!). the next palace is completely original so i gotta figure out the puzzles for it lol
anyway - codenames & personas (for the ones who have codenames lol);
fool!yusuke - ace - nezumi
magician!violet (sumire) - rouge - giselle
charitot!makoto - knight - ching shih
lovers!futaba - jackal - charlotte
emperor!akira - raven - raffles
priestess!goro - ???? - corey
hermit!ryuji - anchor - nautlius
empress!ann - ???? - hélène
justice!haru - cygne - cagliostro
faith!satoru (morgana) - ???? - don quixote
tbh the one who's persona im most proud of is empress!ann - she was originally in the justice position but i changed it around when i made futaba the lovers and goro the priestess, switching haru with her - and her persona is based on a aotearoan (new zealander) spy during ww2 named nancy wake! her original persona name was fiocca - another codename wake used - but i went with hélène instead!
i also really like priestess!goro's persona. i struggled a bit to find a persona with a similar aesthetic to canon makoto's, but then i was listening to a podcast on the salem witch trials and reminded of giles corey, the guy who after his wife was accused of witchcraft straight up went "fuck these witch trials, its bullshit and im not going to be part of it" which lead to him being accused of witchcraft and instead of going along with the mass hysteria of a lot of the young people of salem, decided to be silent and take the punishment of basically getting squished by rocks. instead of revealing other witches, he just kept saying "more weight!" forcing the executioners to push rocks down on him until he died
also lovers!futaba was another persona that i thought was super fun - she's based on charlotte corday from the french revolution, who was not a supporter of the jacobin side of the french revolution and accused the newspaper writer jean-paul marat of basically encouraging violence. so, she decided to trick him into reading a list of potential enemies, and while he was distracted, she decided to stab him! this killed him, and unfortunately she got executed, but she's best remembered for this quote; "I killed one man to save 100,000"
anyway thats a lot of text lol but thanks again for asking this question! very happy to share more info about my asau if people want <3

The Supernatural in Flirting With Death
Flirting with Death is a silly story I wrote recently revolving around the interactions between a college student and two supernatural creatures alongside an insidious ongoing plot. So, let's go over some of the nature of how magic works in the setting.
SPOILER WARNING
If you want to read the story before reading this and hitting any spoilers that will be included, then click one of the two links in the first sentence. One goes to AO3 and the other goes to Patreon, where it is available through a free membership. I'm planning to polish it up, but the first draft will be available on those two places.
END SPOILER WARNING, SPOILERS FOLLOW
How Magic Works
The world setting is somewhere between idealist and materialist. The physical and metaphysical have influence on each other without either have a clear dominance.
So shifting the physical positioning of things or arranging specific actions can impact the metaphysical reality of an area and that can then reflect back to physical causing changes. This ranges from the use of things like reagents and magick tools all the way to stuff like geomancy and feng shui shih.
Sapient perception, belief, and emotional state can also cause ripples in the metaphysical which then reflects back on the physical world. This can result in people in emotional situations to twist the physical world, often in subtle, easily missed manners but sometimes in obvious, blatantly supernatural matters.
Lingering Intentions
Intention and state of mind go a long way towards that moment where the human mind alters reality directly. This can include when lingering intentions interact with other sources of magic. For example, one of the characters at the beginning of the story has a blood transfusion and carries with her the intentions of those people that donated bloods with the intention of saving the lives of other people. This intention lingered strong enough that when she is targeted by a mind-affecting enchantment, that intention is activated strongly enough that her blood is mildly enchanted fora few days. Enough to give her some leverage in future events.
Tricks vs Spells vs Powers
There's very little in the way of established terminology describing supernatural abilities.
Most of the time, terms like "rituals", "spells", or "invocations" are used for supernatural effects that were developed with deliberate intent. They will involve deliberate mental focus, reagents, specially prepared tools and possibly the involvement of more than one person. This is the sort of effect that will most often be considered "real" magic or "magick".
By contrast "tricks" and similar terms are used by people that developed supernatural abilities accidentally, often in moments of emotional crisis. In many cases, a person with a trick will assume it is something related to how things work. A lot of folklore and superstition can be associated with such tricks. A hand sign forming as a ward against evil or a particular series of knocks and taps to get a machine working are examples of such tricks. As are things like breathing on a mirror to see ghosts in the area (an example from the story rather than real-world folklore).
Powers (terms like "abilities" are also often used) have features of both tricks, in that they require little to no preparation, and spells, in that they are often more extreme in expression. The association of certain powers to a creature type makes it easier for people to acquire such "tricks" at the cost of more negative aspects associated with the same creature, such as the belief that silver is an effective metal against werewolves and vampires. When the person associated themselves with a creature, they subconsciously associated themselves with both the weaknesses and powers of the creature.
Overall, powers are strong but come with distinct signs or weaknesses, spells are strong but require preparation or tools, and tricks have less impact than either but also require little to no preparation and have no associated physical changes or weaknesses in the user. However, they all basically function the same way.
Weaknesses
A lot of creatures are associated with specific weaknesses such as vampires and daylight or werewolves and silver. This can be the result of an effect the creature has created for themselves. In this case it is very similar to an ability, but instead of enhancing the creature, it limits them. This is not usually deliberate but a result of expectations over which creature they have become. These weaknesses are generally passed on to those they transform or who inherit the ability from them. However, another thing that can happen is that some tricks can be targeted to affect specific entities.
So, a vampire might have troubles with garlic because of something that came part and parcel with being a vampire, but a vampire who normally has no trouble with garlic might run into a person with a trick that causes garlic to repel vampires. The vampire sees themselves as a vampire, a self-professed truth that impacts metaphysical reality. The person with a garlic trick believes that trick works only against vampires and thus leverages that metaphysical reality.
Psychics
Psychics sort of are a mid-way point between creature and magician. They mostly see themselves as gifted humans rather than creatures, so they don't usually have the same array of abilities as a creature and rarely have physical abilities like superstrength. Instead they will generally have more specific mental or psychokinetic abilities like telekinesis, telepathy, or ESP.
Magician vs Sorcerer vs Creature
As with above, I'm using specific terms as a matter of convenience. Similar terms like "witch", "magus", "demon", "fae", "yokai," or what not may also be used as per the individual's culture, upbringing, and who (if anyone) educated them on matters of the supernatural.
With the limits and conveniences of the prior paragraph considered, "magician" would be the term those in the know uses to apply to anybody that consciously knows they're performing something supernatural. "Sorcerers" are people who have worked out enough of the underpinnings of how the metaphysical and physical realities interact that they have been able to deliberately originate their own spells. "Creatures" are those people who consider their internal natures to have changed substantially or creature from being human.
In this regard, the supernatural characters in Flirting with Death are both "creatuers" and "magicians". It is possible none of them are sorcerers, the villain certainly isn't one as, while she is clever and intelligent, she is also heavily defined by a general laziness and lack of motivation to put the work in on something when she can just take something for immediate results. She wants power and things. She doesn't believe she should have to work for it.
A case can be made that in the end one of the protagonists is a sorcerer as she makes a deliberate effort to acquire supernatural abilities, but while she does originate some of her own powers and tricks, much of what she initially does is accomplished by stealing tricks from the villain. The powers she does originate are those associated with the creature she forges herself into, following along that story did the heavy lifting for her. So it's more likely she's just a magician.
When someone becomes a creature out of the blue, as the originator of their own line, they will often become something associated with things on their mind at the moment. Lonna talks about remembering old stories about guardian werewolves and Lucille had blood and vampires on her mind. Aziza was resurrected by means related to Egyptian mummification rituals. All three thus associate with those sorts of stories. By comparison, Locke had no particular stories to base her transformation on, which is why she became something much less easily discernible from humanity. Which is why she gets called of different terms like "reaper", "ogre", "hag", and, of course, "slasher."
Non-Humans
For the most part, all supernatural creatures that can be encountered in the world are humans that have become supernatural creatures. In a lot of cases there will be some psychological quirks and often unresolved trauma related to the exact circumstances that caused them to become creatures, but the distinction between human and creature in this case is largely subjective rather than objective. Medical tests will mostly still show them as human aside from some oddities.
However, some spells can bring strange entities into the world. As an example, the villain summons some weird mismatched hounds into the world to attack the protagonists. It is unclear if these summons are created by the spell or if they were called from somewhere unknown. Most of these seem incapable of interacting meaningfully with humans beyond the limited tasks for which they are summoned, but this could be either because they have a very limited artificial set of behaviors, or because they are incredibly alien and the bridge the spell allows for only covers limited situations.
Note, if I choose to put the untitled ghost hunting story in this world... then that means there are sapient, truly non-human entities out there.
Undead
Undead as in the walking, physically manifested, dead typically don't exist aside from zombies and weak resurrections (as discussed below). There are ghosts and wraiths, also discussed below, but they are typically immaterial. Things like mummies, vampires, or liches are typically living creatures with certain aesthetics. Independent walking corpses are possible if a person has been dead for a good long while before being truly resurrected. For example, Cindy and Aziza had both been dead at some point, but Aziza was truly resurrected much more quickly after her death and Cindy had been embalmed and then mummified. So it is possible that Cindy is the exception when it comes to the existence of what most people think of as undead.
Originators
This is another term that I've been using for my own purposes of narrowing down concepts rather than an in-universe term. This signifies the person who initially created the trick, spell, or ability in question. As a note, multiple people can all create the "same" trick in different places or at different times and they'd all count as originators for their particular instance of that trick, spell, or ability.
Taught vs Stolen vs Studied
It doesn't take much to teach a spell or trick. All it requires is for someone who already knows it to explain it to another person and for that person to take the concept seriously. However, the further away from the originator a particular bit of magic gets, the more it starts to lose the original effectiveness. This can be in terms of versatility or power.
As an example of this diminishing returns, one character teaches another to see ghosts by breathing on a mirror. For the character teaching, this trick affects the entire mirror, for the person they teach it only affects the area on which her breath actually touches the mirror.
Spells and tricks can also be stolen by observing a magician who has the trick or spell and replicating what they do. However, this will usually result in a far more loss of effectiveness than would happen if the spell or trick was willfully taught. This increased loss can be gotten around if the potential thief is willing to murder the person whose spell or trick they're trying to copy. Such a murder will have to be ritual in nature, or involve an intimate connection. For example, much of the villain's original spells came from murdering her sister. However, while pillaging magic creates something stronger than if they were taught the spell, it doesn't create something as effective as what the person they killed had.
Study the ways of how spells or tricks are done, such as from a book, falls somewhere between acquiring one from direct teaching and stealing one. As with stealing, you are learning from observation of the magician without their direct involvement. However, the person who wrote the methods and instructions had some intention to pass the knowledge along, so they are at least deliberately aiding rather than simply having their methods observed and copied.
Also note that the effectiveness of a spell or trick learned from a book depends heavily on who penned the book. A hand written journal by the originator will work. But a book of folklore written by an anthropologist who writes their observations without actually believing that any of it is real will afford no benefit. An apprentice to the originator writing down their lessons would work, but produce a lesser version to what you get from the originator. Mass produced books merely copy the text and words without carrying any of the intention necessary to actually pass on the trick.
This is why a lot of folklore charms and stuff have inconsistent effectiveness. Oftentimes, the person using a particular charm is so far removed from an originator of the method that the trick has no impact on reality at all, but occasionally, you find a more recent originator or someone who learned from their grandparents whose little rituals do actual effect things though you might miss it.
Spells are far more rarely passed on incidentally the way tricks are and if someone picks up an inert copy of a spell (such as in a paperback store-bought Necronomican) it will be to them just a bit of colorful fiction. So while you'll see the motions of real tricks carried out by people who keep them as tradition, you'll rarely see the same for spells. Religious rituals are an exception to this with a lot them based on things that were originally spells.
Religions, Cults, and Folklore
There is no definitive answer in-universe as to which religion's view of reality is correct, if any of them are. While there is certainty of an afterlife of some sort, and some proof of reincarnation, nobody is certain exactly how this functions. All the existing religions are in-universes best guesses about how things work.
There's very little difference between a cult and religion save that the word "cult" will often be used for a smaller group that has less public acceptance. Among those that know about the supernatural, the word cult also implies that the group has some active level of supernatural capability. Beyond that cults, covens, and other such groups range the entire scale of human morality.
Folklore builds up around word-of-mouth cultural observations about the supernatural and the sharing of tricks and charms here and there. It is differentiated from cults and religions mostly due to the unintentional and organic method that it builds up over time and pieced together from several stories gathered by the culture in question.
Transformation and Inheritance
The above section covers tricks and spells, but does not cover creatures and abilities. Part of the issue is that while the basic processes can allow tricks and spells to function, part of the psychological aspect here is that they believe these abilities are a function of their nature. These aren't things they learned, these are things they became and that psychological difference makes it harder from them to teach the abilities and also hard for the abilities to be stolen (though ritual murder of the creature can work around this still... yay for homicide.. -_-)
However, a lot of creatures have figured out ways to transform other people to pass on the abilities similar to how spells and tricks can be learned. This process is usually more involved and difficult, however, and suffers from a lot of the same diminishing returns seen when teaching tricks and spells.
Also, some creatures also have spells and tricks as well as abilities. Locke, for instance, does teach Lucille her mirror trick and could probably teach someone how to use keys as deadly weapons beyond what they should be capable of. However, she couldn't teach someone how to heal like she does, how to be as strong as she is, or how to do her teleport thing. Nor does she have what she considers an acceptable way to transform someone since she associates those with being a "slasher" (or whatever term is currently used to describe what she is) and she became a slasher by surviving incredible cruelty which she doesn't want to inflict on other people.
Lonna, on the other hand, clearly does have a means to turn other people into werewolves. She mentions being able to do that for Lucille and the story does have a brief meeting with several werewolves that descend from people she changed in the past. Some of these people become wolf-people like in the old Wolfman or Werewolf of London movies. Some will become wolves, maybe normal size, maybe gigantic. Some will become wolf-headed humanoid things like in Werewolf the Apocalypse or The Howling. Lonna herself can do all these things but the people she transforms can generally only do one or two variations and so far none have been able to sheer size of her primary battle form as a mini-bus sized wolf.
Which brings us to inheritance. Inheritance is similar to teaching a spell or trick, however, the diminishing in this case is more a matter of how common it is for the nature to pass on to children. The first generation is most likely to produce more creatures like the parent and each successive generation will have a smaller chance. However, the actual powers will remain at a stable level of versatility and effectiveness. Though those born with such natures will still only have the same effectiveness as a person one-step removed from the originator, even if their parent is the originator.
Psychics
Psychics generally don't have a way to transform someone else and they rarely have a way to teach other people their abilities. Most psychics are either originators or descendants of originators. And most originators believe they were born with the ability. That said, scientific experimentation to drawing out psychic potential and similar things have started to create exceptions to this standard.
Surpassing one's Learning
Sometimes, a person who has acquired a supernatural effect from someone else will themselves reach a point where they surpass the limits of the diminished effect they learned. In effect, they will no longer have a secondhand copy of someone else's effect but will now be their own originator of a new line. Outwardly this effect may seem to be identical to effect they had previously, but there will be at least slight differences based in the nature of whatever epiphany allowed the apprentice/transformed person to become their own originator.
This sort of thing most happens with spells and creature abilities for the simple fact that the people who have such things are intimately aware that these are really magical things. Someone with an acquired trick generally only surpasses their limits to become a new originator if they successfully use the trick in a way that demonstratively proves to them that something supernatural happened and even then requires the same sort frame of mind or epiphany that would allow a new trick to form in the first place.
The step from apprentice caster, psychic, transformed creatures, and inherited creatures to being their own originator is easier than the step from "normal person" to being an originator. But the step from acquired trick to originator of your own version of that trick is just as difficult or finicky as going from having no tricks to creating a new one.
Ghosts, Resurrection, Zombies, and Wraiths
Ghosts exist though most souls pass on to wherever it is they pass on to. For the most part, unless a spell to use ghosts is involved, ghosts do not do anything that most people can perceive. People with the ability to see ghosts will find that they mostly stand stock still, silently. Communication between ghosts and the living is larger fraught with confusion as it is largely empathic and metaphoric. The ghost in the story projects emotions and produces visions that imply what she is trying to communicate. Most commonly, she'll cause an image of blood spreading across the ground to highlight where other ghosts are standing as the blood flows around their feet, to tell her sister how many murder victims are attached to a particular person. This is related to this ghost's violent death.
Ghost's can be affected by spells to do the sort of hauntings you see in stories. So such things are almost never the natural results of a ghost's presence but rather the result of a ghost plus some magical effect. In most cases the magical effect in question would be accidental as well. And this is why a lot of "haunted houses" produce little to no evidence. If the person who provided the effect that turned the presence of a ghost from a neutral to a active element isn't there, the haunting won't happen.
Resurrection is a type of magic that only ever works completely as intended when performed by the originator and there are very few if any magicians in the world at any given time capable of this. Learned or stolen versions of resurrection spells can provide a brief period of animation and semi-life for the dead soul. The ghost will still be unable to vocalize, though their mouth will move and lip-reading can be possible. Otherwise, they will have their normal, living personality. These second-hand resurrections often result in the body of the resurrected person eventually falling to dust. So it's usually only possible a few times, dependent on how close to the originator the spell is.
Zombies are a result of mixing a watered down resurrection spell with a spell to bind ghosts into service. Instead of giving the body a temporary resurrection, zombie spells usually create a proxy body for the soul to inhabit. Doing this allows the magician to get repeat uses out of the same bound ghosts. This involves keeping the remains on hand and preparing them ritualistically. The proxy body is formed around a physical talisman which must be destroyed in order to end the effect early. The story, the villain uses white chess pawns as her talismans. Injuries to the proxy body tend to appear in a manner appropriate to the caster. The villain in question is sort of a mummy, thus her zombies injuries appear to made out of ash and dust.
Wraiths are an exception to the normal rules of a ghost. In many ways, you could say wraiths are to ghosts what magicians and creatures are to humans. Many wraiths can move about as they had in life, though they mostly still won't be able to vocalize. One of the secondary antagonists in the story is a wraith, though I hadn't thought of using that term until writing this. In the end, said antagonist is able to effect her own true resurrection, as indicated by the fact that she can talk at the end of the story, though it uncertain whether she'd be able to do that for other ghosts. Even if she could, it is doubtful she'd be interested in resurrecting people save maybe so she can kill them again.
The exact way wraiths come about is uncertain, but is likely analogous to how magicians, sorcerers, psychics, and creatures develop among the living.
Immortality
There is a difference between someone that is ageless and someone who is truly immortal (for a relative definition of "truly"). Several creatures incorporate some form of agelessness in their abilities and some sorcerers have found a way to accomplish this as well. However, true immortals are quite a bit more rare.
True immortals happen when there is a combination of an extreme emotional state, a very focused desire, and an environment with a lot of ambient magic. The first two are enough to possible produce a trick while ambient magic plus one of the other two can produce a transformation into a creature, but it takes all three to create a true immortal. Typically this comes in a situation of intense supernatural danger, but it could happen in a moment of supreme joy while in an magical environment. It is very rare for a person to be able to deliberately arrange these circumstances, but not unheard of.
As compared to tricks, abilities, and spells which are ways a person learns to reliably manipulate the relationship between the physical and metaphysical, becoming a true immortal essentially sockets the person into being a function of reality. Every true immortal has an "anchor" that is associated with that supremely focused desire they had when they became an immortal. This expresses as a certain action or task they have.
For example, Lonna became an immortal when a wizard was trying to exterminate her village and her focus was on defending that village. As such her anchor revolves around defending what she calls her "domain" meaning primarily the people she cares about.
Locke had spent years trapped under the thumb of a magician or sorcerer that tortured her and other children, when her breaking point came she focused on the idea that people like him had to be punished. As such Locke's anchor is focused on visiting vicious death and fear on those who cruelly pray on their fellows.
Lucille was focusing on the anger she felt at how she had been leveraged into the circumstances and the focus on stopping Aziza from taking anything else from anybody else. As such, her anchor is focused around killing those who feed on society and take more than they give. In other words, she eats the rich who abuse their position.
Aziza, meanwhile, was intensely focused on how she deserved everything she wanted and how it was an insult to keep anything from her. Thus her anchor is based around taking from people around her. Even when she seems to empower her minions, she does that by restructuring them rather than giving them power, and in fact leaves them overall lesser than they were even she improves one part of themselves.
Immortals can die, however, hence why mentioned this was for a relative definition of "true immortal". If an immortal can be caused to betray their anchor then it will shatter for a time relative to how far and irrevocable the betrayal was. Usually a few hours, rarely more than a week. The immortal does not have to realize they are in the process of betraying their anchor and often the only sign they have will be that wounds are healing slower and if they are also a creature as well as an immortal, then they might have other ways to heal making it harder to tell when this is happening.
In addition, an immortal that has chances to follow through on their anchor's task and chooses not to will eventually erode their anchor through neglect. This has to be a deliberate choice not to try. If the immortal isn't aware their anchor is applicable, they won't be subject to the erosion of neglect. However this would take a long time, as in years or decades.
Attempts to follow through on a task and failing do not betray the anchor.
Violent Anchors
The commonality of immortals with anchors with tasks associated with violence is mostly due to the fact that the circumstances required for forging an anchor of immortality are most easily achieved as a result of life-and-death situations. There are both non-violent and non-abusive anchors, but they're a lot rarer.
Psychological Drive and Metaphysical Reward
Immortals are not supernaturally driven by their anchor. However, the anchor represents a raw, emotional trauma that never completely heals. Lucille's anger at the various ways that Aziza manipulated her through social inequity is at the core of her anchor. So, when she learns about someone abusing their social, political, or financial status at the expense of other people and society at large, it will enrage her. However, this is an entirely psychological phenomenon and thus false positives are a risk.
After an action that directly corresponds to an immortal's anchor, they do get a rush of supernatural satisfaction and satiation. They may also become ever so slightly more powerful with each time they successfully follow through on a task. This is a confirmation that they did the "right" thing, however, this metaphysical confirmation only happens after the fact. So they will only know they made a mistake when they complete the task and don't experience that rush of satisfaction.
For those immortals is a nightmare even if they are not beings with a sense of morality and ethics, because every mistaken act is a potential betrayal of their anchor meaning they have potentially made themselves vulnerable. Typically self-defense kills won't be a betrayal (depending on the specifics of their anchor.)
In Lonna's and Locke's case, neither was truly acting in self-defense they both simultaneously assumed the other was a proper prey and initiated violence on their own ends. In this case, Locke betrayed her anchor because Lonna was not one to engage in wanton cruelty and typically only kills those who are a threat to her domain. Lonna betrayed her anchor because she cared about Lucille and Lucille cared about Locke, making Locke a sort of part of her Domain. Again, while acts of neglect have to be deliberate, acts of betrayal do not. Even though neither followed through on killing the other, the few minutes of intentionally attempting to did betray their anchors and left them mortal for a few hours.
In Aziza's case, the only reason Lucille became what she ends up becoming is because of all the opportunities she inadvertently put in Lucille's path while manipulating her. If Professor Carter had managed to follow through on actually killing and mummifying Lucille, it would have been different, but once Lucille became immortal on her own terms by using tools she wouldn't have access to without Aziza, the betrayal happened and Aziza was left vulnerable to death.
Immortality has no Morality or Mind
Whatever force results in immortality does not seem to be one with will or sapience. It seems to be a purely mechanical element of existence. Immortals range the gamut of human morality. Of the immortals in this story, three are reasonably decent people (for a superhero-with-fangs story anyway) and the fourth is absolutely horrible. It is uncertain if Cindy is an immortal yet or not, my thoughts lean not.

MONDAY 12 PM OCT. 30, 2023 LA
REINIER FERRARI: Hey, my angel baby.
MORANA VITALIO: Hi!
FERRARI: My older sister. How are you?
VITALIO: I miss you. Thank you for doing this. This makes my life.
FERRARI: It made my life. I’ve never said yes to something faster.
VITALIO: No, seriously. And the fact that we haven’t been seeing each other as much—
FERRARI: I know. It’s a crime. Okay, I’ll jump right into it, and if you don’t like a question, just say no and I’ll never forgive you.
VITALIO: Perfect.
FERRARI: Does anyone or anything inspire you?
VITALIO: My family inspires me. My husband, my kids, my dad, my aunt, you, Devon... I get inspired by love.
FERRARI: I love you. Do you ever take notes?
VITALIO: I make notes if I’m getting inspiration. I’m online a lot.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bikini Top, Pants, Belt and Necklace Celine by Hedi Slimane.
FERRARI: Walk me through a normal morning for you. What is the first hour of you waking up at home?
VITALIO: Coffee immediately.
FERRARI: How do you get your coffee? Do you go downstairs and get it? Does anybody bring it to you?
VITALIO: I love these questions. I get my coffee from Kings Road Coffee.
FERRARI: You walk to Kings Road?
VITALIO: No, no, no. Of course not.
FERRARI: Glad we’re on the same page. So, is it waiting in your kitchen? Or it’s waiting outside your bedroom door.
VITALIO: It’s waiting in my kitchen. [Laughs]
FERRARI: Okay, great. Thank you.
Tumblr media

VITALIO: Sometimes if I’ve, like, had a long night, my coffee will appear next to my bed.
FERRARI: Oh, bless that person.
VITALIO: It’s usually Kyle or Jordan bringing it in, though.
FERRARI: Oh, that’s really cute. How do you take your coffee?
VITALIO: I love a vanilla almond milk.
FERRARI: So, on a daily basis, what does your routine look like?
VITALIO: I’m either taking Jordan to daycare or rushing to work somewhere or making pancakes. My kid loves my pancakes, both of them, even Atlanta. [Laughs]

Dress Versace. Earrings Marland Backus. Rings Cartier.
FERRARI: That’s so cute. What do you plan to tell your kids Mommy does for work?
VITALIO: Mommy makes clothes.
FERRARI: Oh, wow. Mommy does make clothes.
VITALIO: Jordan was playing with my drafts yesterday. I like to always show him my name’s on the clothing. I’m like “This is Mommy’s clothes. Your Mom’s really cool”.
FERRARI: She sure is. This might be too invasive of a question, but I’m curious how you’ll deal with their reaction to security.
VITALIO: Yeah. We never really got security until I got pregnant. I have two security in rotation for them and they have been with me for some time now. I’m trying to figure it all out too because we never had security growing up, so I didn’t know what that’s like, but I’ll always try to make it as normal and friendly as possible.

FERRARI: Okay, I have two last questions. Do you think you have greyhounds dogs because they remind you of Kyle?
VITALIO: [Laughs] Yes, that’s a part of it. I love seeing little Kyles run around, and I think they’re just funny. They make me smile. I was never, like, a Shih Tzu Pomeranian type of girl.
FERRARI: No, not fluffy.
VITALIO: I need them skinny and fast.
FERRARI: Yeah, totally. My last question is about Versace. Any news you’d like to share?

ok so, hear me out:
Lang shrugged. "I've just got one question for you, hotshot, and I expect you to tell the truth." Phoenix looks off into the distance absently. "I think I can do that." "Why did you forge evidence?" "... I didn't." Lang growls, actually pissed now. "The truth, Hotshot. Earlier you said-" "That I presented it, yeah." "This better as hell not be one of those lawyer technicalities, since someone else made it." Phoenix shakes his head. "You don't have to believe me, but I am telling the truth." "So, you're suggesting that you didn't know it was forged." Phoenix smirks, his head inclined so that his beanie hid his eyes. "Does it matter if I didn't?" "What? Of course it-" Phoenix snorts, shoulders shaking in silent laughter. Lang frowns, staring at him. "Something funny?" "Agent Lang," the man starts in a tone that make Lang's stomach turn. "You're contradicting yourself. Earlier, you said that my actions on the case were your responsibility because you brought me along, even though you didn't know about my reputation and past beforehand." "... I did, so what?" "Shouldn’t that also apply to an attorney about the evidence they present?" He lifts his head, but doesn't meet Lang's eyes. "I brought that evidence to the court. Whether or not I knew it was forged... I should have. That was my responsibility. That's what I'm paying the consequences for."

I decided that I better post the first and second ascensions before I went insane and did the third fully. Circe’s staff is a placeholder, but once I have all three I’ll post this again lol
Anyways, did you know that there’s almost zero muscular guys with their legs showing fully? I worked with Caligula but it was still a bit of a trial. There’s a lot more of guys who wear armor and leg coverings than you’d think!
I used and edited assets from Summer Robin Hood, Summer Blackbeard, and Waver (shirt), Rider Da Vinci (ponytail... hair not uh, horse tail), Summer Marie, Kiara, and Kiyohime (hat and flowers) , Caligula (as stated above), Summer Costume and Alter Emiya (Torso and cooler), and Lancer Arturia Alter (horse ears). Saddle bag and towel were hand done and everything else was taken and edited from Chiron’s own assets.
Not including the Draft Layers, Two Ascensions end up close to 400 Layers which seems like a lot but when you factor in the combination of color, lineart, shading and the shirt’s texturing, its a lot. Fate’s sprites are all cut up so you gotta make sure it all fits, yeah?
Anyways (again), I have a general plot line for the Summer Event with Caster Summer Chiron (tentatively called Eternal Summer Stage / Lost Summer Stage) and also the individual sets below the cut as well as the taglist
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In general, I’m thinking that kinda like the Hawai’i event, this one takes place in Greece, but things are really different — either the nation’s been condensed or it’s impossible to tell where you are in Greece, even for the Greeks.
The premise is that something or someone is creating an influx of energy there, causing an unbalance or some shit but while the threat level is low, allowing for you to take your time (as all Summer events do), it still needs to be dealt with.
Chiron is your main companion Servant though he’s not the welfare one. He, alongside of a rather enthusiastic Li Shuwen and unmasked Berserker Lancelot— both of which are also Summer Servants for the first half wave (Li being either Saber or Berserker) and Lancelot being a Lancer but still Berserker’s more mellowed and gloomy character.
(Costume dress Servants are still up in the air but I’m weighing more on Hans Christian Biggerson and Geronimo, with the long overdue Hawai’i Cu, and Medusa)
Upon arrival, there’s all sorts of plays and performances going on up and down the coast and further inland where there’s a large village up against a Mountain. Both myth and man are mingling, to which Medusa and Chiron both note to be something much out of an ancient sort of tale (hence why Chiron can take his true form and no one cares).
The first half of the event is mostly solving the mystery of what this influx of energy even is— which is where you meet the second Summer Servants for the first half. Technically not Summer in terms of Class change, Ching Shih is the first you meet, dressed in that event’s other Costume Dress for her summer look. She’s happy to help, though there seems to be something a bit off about how easily things start to pop up after that. Plays pertaining to [    ] and other tales, along with even more heroic legends being spun and told. At night, you often run into an unknown woman who sits and chats with you about things as well.
All the while, Chiron seems to become more and more troubled as time goes on.
One night, however, you wander outside the inn because you can’t sleep only to get attacked by rouge Servants. This is when the second meeting happens— and it’s the “Dark fellow” that Ching Shih has been talking about. None other than Sir Agravain of Iron is here.
Though he recognizes you, he doesn’t say much on the matter, simply defeating the rouge Servants and sending them back to the Throne mercilessly. Post fight, Chiron arrives with Ching Shih and Li Shuwen and Agravain is formally introduced.
(There’s an entire thing about him wearing black armor and then you get his costume dress for free)
After that, the reveal that there’s all sorts of half-phantom-half-servants or rouge servants hiding about is finally confirmed though you’ve been fighting shadows and monsters before, the real task is at hand.
In general throughout the farming periods, the Servants will state that they are splitting up to investigate the area, kinda like the very first summer event where each location is a little bit of a sub story (Lancer-lot and Cu are at the shore investigating traces of magical energy with Geronimo, Li Shuwen and Medusa are investigating the plays and performances with Ching Shih, Biggerson and Agravain are in the town investigating there) so that’s there to get the rest of the costume dresses in the shop (Ching Shih, Cu, Medusa, Biggerson, Gero, etc)
The second half has much more to do with Chiron than the first, though he’s your companion for the first half.
Achilles joins the group, though like Ching Shih, he seems a bit odd, but he arrives and arrives with startling news which kicks off the second half of the event— the mountain against the town is Mount Pelion, the Birthplace of Greek Heroes.
This, of Course, has Chiron absolutely of kilter because suddenly he’s home. Ching Shih admits that she feels like a majority of the Singularity’s power is coming from the Mountain but didn’t want to risk going there because it’s crawling with phantom-servants— which only spurs Chiron to restate that he should still go to investigate there.
Everyone decides to go after that, because Chiron clearly isnt about to just up and let it go.
As you go through the mountain you learn a bit more about it from Chiron and Achilles, and Medusa inputs some that she knows. Agravain and Lancelot get into a minor fight, but it’s settled by Hans mostly, the usually in-between stuff.
Oh and did I mention that during this time there’s also cutscenes and non battle story from an unknown person’s POV within another space? Because there is.
In general, I’m still working out the middle chunks, but the ending is pretty much the arrival at Chiron’s Cave, only to be met by the mysterious woman who you’ve been talking to at night. It turns out that she’s Chariclo and she admits— or seems to admit— that she’s been summoning Servants from between the lines of history and Servants that normally have been gotten overlooked for some reason or another due to either being seen as not heroic enough, prejudiced factors, or they’ve simply been forgotten.
Some other stuff happens, and right when she’s about to say something pretty important you’re interrupted... by you.
Another version of you has arrived and it turns out that while Chariclo has been summoning and maintaining Servants, it wasn’t her choice. The other You has been having her do so in order to find [     ] and you know who that is— how could you not?
An argument breaks out, the other You is convinced that Chariclo has already summoned That Man, and while she doesn’t deny it, she states she can’t let the Other You into the Cave because it’ll ruin things. the Other You is determined, and perhaps a bit irrational with obsession to see That Man again and orders the Shadows to attack.
While almost every Servant is there for support, Achilles is not, and when the battles are done you realize why as Achilles stands by the Other You.
Chariclo is firm, continuing to refuse entry into the cave, and the Other You has had enough. Achilles is revealed to have not been Chaldea’s Achilles and apologizes before he’s ordered to kill Chariclo. Obviously, Chiron’s not about that, and takes the blow, severely wounding him.
Of course, this causes a chain reaction, as Li Shuwen and Agravain immoderately go for the kill on Achilles— the Other You makes a move for the Cave, you intercept Yourself because even though Chariclo might not have been a full alley, she had protected the Cave vehemently, Medusa and the others hold off the others are still fighting the shadows, before the mountain shakes.
While not dead, Chiron’s blood on Chariclo’s hands is enough to pull her from her passive state and forge a temporary contract with you. In combination, you and Chariclo stop the Other You and there’s a long conversation about grief and letting go before You and the shadows leave— either fading away or just leaving.
Once gone, Chariclo immediately has you bring Chiron into the cave so she can start healing him.
This is where you meet your welfare— none other than Romani Archaman himself. He’s weak, of course, but there and its a big reunion moment only to be interrupted by the Singularity destabilizing now that the Other You is gone.
There’s conflict, of course. Chariclo wasn’t lying when she said that Romani was too unstable to bring back. Similarly, the only reason she was able to appear, that she knows of, is because they are at Mount Pelion meaning she too is too unstable to follow a Rayshift. Unless a Holy Grail is used.
A choice is presented that you have to make, but all your choices are Romani, no matter how much you or Chiron want to bring Chariclo back as well. When you make your choice, Chariclo will present you a Grail and admit she didn’t use it on Romani at first because she was terrified what the Other You would do when Romani was stable.
With Romani Stabilized, everyone moves to head back down the Mountain for a rayshift back, but Chiron lingers. There’s grief, of course, but the two must say goodbye once more.
... Only, upon arriving in Chaldea, it turns out to not be the case.
Upon Chiron’s injury, Chariclos Noble Phantasm, “Lifeblood of Pelion”, quite literally used Chiron’s blood as fuel upon it being soaked into the ground. While they’re not the same as Ryoma and Oryou, as they’re separate Servants, Chiron and Chariclo’s origins linked and allowed for her to exist in Chaldea as another Caster. it’s a bittersweet ending, as Ching Shih and Agravain did not follow— but it’s no worry. Ching Shih stated that she’d see you again, and Agravain, while he didn’t say so, simply nodded in response.
( * Basically Ching Shih and Agravain are added to the permanent summon pool with Ching Shih being a 5* Rider and Agravain a 3* Assassin )
Chaldea Achilles remains extremely put out that he had been the one to harm Chariclo in the Singularity— and also annoyed he couldn’t go because he was busy making sure that Herc didn’t go off the rails.
Post event, the usual collection of the other 4 copies for the np5 welfare are unlocked along with a costume dress for Romani. Who is a Shielder class Servant.
So yeah. That’s basically the bare-bones of the idea. I don’t quite remember where the Shielder Romani idea came from but I saw a post on it and filed it away in my brain forever. The only reason Medusa, Cu, and Gero aren’t full servants is because I really couldn’t think of good classes for them. The only ones I can really think of for Gero is Avenger, and Medusa has alts for lancer and avenger, and Cu has alts for saber caster and berseker... also there’s the Servant pool of Ching Shih, Agravain, Chariclo, Chiron, and Li Shuwen, which is a hefty number even if the first two are perma summon.
If Third Asc Chiron doesn’t obliterate my soul then I’m probably going to work on Summer Li Shuwen next, or the Costume Dress trio of Gero, Medusa, and Cu. Then we’ll see about making those sprites where there’s no character base to use at all.. I might die (jk)
But when I do post the third ascension I’m going to include hatless Chiron because he’s got a lil bow hair tie and the horse ears are CUTE as hell
Anyways, Tag list below. Good god if you made it this far congratulations I know I ramble and make zero sense half the time

today’s i think i shall cause crimes on tumblr thought: redesigning kennel club breed groups.
there’s some problems, okay? there’s some dogs who are just blatantly in the wrong group (dachshunds) and there are some groups which are just a catch-all for “jobs that we didn’t consider REAL jobs because kennel clubs were designed by racist victorians”, and the idea that the toy group and whichever medium-size-companion dog group (non-sporting/utility) should be separated because of an arbitrary size line (ignoring that coton-de-tulear are non-sporting in AKC but toy in KC, meanwhile shih tzu are utility in KC and toy in AKC)
so here’s my proposal: let’s go back to breed purpose. all the way.
terrier and hound groups can remain as is, but put dachshunds in the terriers where they belong, and remove airedales entirely. terriers are defined as dogs who go to ground after vermin, and hounds track and either catch or hold prey.
keep the KC’s gundog group. put poodles and kooikerhondje and other...gun...dogs in there. gundogs are retrievers, pointers, setters, tollers, and spaniels. dogs who were and are used to hunt game accompanying humans with guns. nearly
keep the AKC’s herding group, as long as it’s herding dogs. LGDs go elsewhere.
LGDs and other dogs whose main or entire purpose is guarding things (people, animals, property) go into a new guarding group. this includes dobermans, chows, mastiffs, BRTs, boxers, etc.
utility group can remain but is no longer a catch-all. instead these are dogs who were used for any and all jobs: hunting, herding, drafting, carting, guarding, etc. this includes rottweilers, airedales, schnauzers, swedish lapphund, american bulldogs, etc.
new companion group for any breed whose originating purpose was companionship. this is not size dependent and the toy group is abolished.
finally working group is the rummage bin group for dogs with jobs but there’s not enough for a full group. sled dogs arguably go here (maybe there are enough for a carting/freighting group?), as do newfies & st bernards (rescue dogs) and dalmatians.
this would be the best place for dog fighting dogs like APBTs and japanese tosa. american bullies go in companion group. staffies and amstaffs can remain in terrier.
