If you’re wondering how the emperor dealt with having four or nine women per night - according to Daoist principles, the emperor had an excess of yang energy which needed to be balanced by the yin energy, specifically the yin energy from female orgasm. So he would be obligated to bring all his concubines etc to orgasm through extensive foreplay (you think I’m joking), use intercourse only as a way to have children (ugh), and control his ejaculation so as not to impregnate concubines ranked lower than consorts (seriously not joking).

Now I don't know how true this all is (the sources cited are in Chinese) and I also read that these are like, the possible slots but that usually not all would be filled, but STILL I feel like anyone keeping this schedule would die of a heart attack at like 29 because HOW? How is this even possible? Therefore I have created a lazy version that will keep you alive.

Days 1-9 - You aren't supposed to get these ones pregnant anyway, so turn off the lights and have eunuchs (why else do you have them?) do all the work. You get a good sleep for 9 days. Surely you can still get yin energy balanced if someone else does the work as long as you're nearby, right?

Day 10-13 - Still not supposed to get them pregnant, same thing

Day 13 - 9 consorts, these ones can get pregnant and you've been so well rested so maybe sleep with two of them, seems reasonable and achievable. Rotate which ones you do each time.

Day 14 - 4 women, only 1 day... I guess it's possible. This is the toughest day. Have a very large breakfast for energy

Day 15-16 - only one empress and you've got the power of future knowledge so you figure out her most likely ovulation date and get her pregnant. That leaves you two free days for 9 months! You'll still go see her of course, because that's nice, but you can just eat dinner together and talk about food cravings'
