restoration is good (TO ME) because after 12 years we finally get to see carolina gather the clarity to understanding tex. just as carolina was beaten down, when we don't have sarge or wash to guide us, it happens.
tex saves us. the woman who failed defies fate and saves the day.
#tex's whole story was about not being her own person and she was forgotten as if that was true#but it's not true. i think caboose being the one to choose tex over church. to remember tex as her own person#to have cared enough about her. to remind us that tex was never just church's ex or just a freelancer or just a bamf#but that she was someone who was cared about. who was loved. she cared so much only to be abandoned#and yet. and yet. the reds and blues didn't see it that way. she was a part of them. despite it all they were her friends#and i'm so happy that we got to see the show itself be reminded of that. that tex was her own person.#she was valued and she was loved. i think carolina seeing tex return made her understand this.#carolina got to see the tex she never allowed herself to see: a tex who cared about her friends.#a tex whose strength was those around her. the allies she made. carolina sees herself in tex.#and it finally allows her to let tex go. carolina says goodbye for the first time and it's to tex.#the last remnant of her mother and she lets her go.#idkidkdikddidkddk carolina and tex make me wanna chew on glass or something i cannot believe burnie burns came in clutch at the last second#to give carolina and tex that closure. to give tex an ending on her own terms. that's why restoration is GOATed it's flawed but it's earnes#like....BURNIE BURNS??? of all people??? giving us closure on carolina AND tex at the same time??? BURNIE BURNS??? it sounds made up andyet

So, episode 7, amazing stuff. The construction of this episode, from a narrative and technical standpoint, was brilliant. Patti LuPone delivered a gutwrenching and honest performance, Sasheer Zamata got some good moments in there too, and the music swell as Lilia takes control of her final sacrifice...chef's kiss. I want that all on the record before I somehow make this about my personal favorite blorbo. I love this episode to pieces.
Okay, so I think there's something uniquely tragic about Alice being "the path behind," especially in the context of Jen being "the path ahead." Of course Lilia explains the meaning of these cards as "wounds suffered" and "room for growth and discovery," respectively. However, in a thematic sense, Lilia puts her hope for "the path ahead"--the future for all witches--in Jen. She is an elder sacrificing herself for the new generation.
It's undoubtedly a triumph. But it's also so tragic that the one they lost, in terms of witch age, was younger than Jen. Alice wasn't even a century old, the youngest member of the coven aside from Billy. Alice could have been the path ahead, too, but they lost her.
It's almost fitting, in a way, that the wound suffered by this particular coven is the loss of a young member of their community--by witch standards, essentially, the loss of a child.

Knightfall in Dream Land - Page 6
Meta Knight begins his long fall to Popstar’s surface and passes by some familiar faces on the way down.
#Kirby#Kirby fanart#my art#comic#Meta Knight#Dark Meta Knight#Sailor Dee#Taranza#sorry it took me so long to finish this page but it’s finally done#I hope that the title of the comic makes sense to everyone now#I called it Knightfall in Dream Land because the knight fell into Dream Land lmao#the parts of the comic set in the present are occurring around the time of Return to Dream Land#so the gang hasn’t met Taranza yet and isn’t aware of Floralia’s existence#but since Meta has a long fall to the surface I’d imagine he’d probably crash through Floralia on the way down and pass by the mirror#I tend not to give specific ages/age numbers to Kirby characters in my fanart/fan AU#the first reason for this is that different characters probably age at different rates since they’re different species#and the second reason for this is that I don’t see years between game releases equating to years passing for the characters#I mean just look at Adeleine she’s still a kid in Star Allies even though that was released almost two decades after Crystal Shards lmao#instead of giving characters specific ages I headcanon them as being in certain age ranges#so in the present Kirby Bandee and Sailor are all kids (and Bandee and Sailor are a bit older than Kirby)#I also see characters like Gooey Adeleine and Ribbon as being kids too#while characters like Taranza Susie Magolor Marx and the Mage Sisters are young adults#and characters like Meta Knight Dedede Daroach Captain Vul and Hyness are older adults#but in the parts of the comic set in the past Meta Knight and Dedede are young adults and Taranza is a kid#and Kirby and the Dees are babies#the older spiders shown here with Taranza and Sectonia are OCs of mine who are their mothers#their names are Lady Theraphoza (Taranza’s mom) and Queen Rachnia (Sectonia’s mom)#I’m giving Taranza some backstory since HAL refuses to tell us anything about him except he’s sad about Sectonia lmao#this post has too many tags but maybe I’ll make a separate post with my Spider Lore#Knightfall in Dream Land

do u have any navi thoughts from your oot replay
i've been waiting to answer this until I actually beat the game in my current playthrough because navi is another one of those characters that i think of in like a "set" with several other characters who serve relatively the same thematic purpose; in this case that purpose being the "mother" character, and i wanted to have all the characters in that set fresh in my mind. it's notable that while oot shows us very clear and consistent instances of the ways in which the adults of hyrule fail to protect their children, there ARE several adults who DO go out of their way to both oppose ganondorf and protect and nurture the children under their care. All of these characters are adult women, and all of them explicitly help the children out of some sort of parental responsibility or sense of duty towards them. in this group I include link's late mother, impa, nabooru, and navi.
all 4 mother characters, despite being adults or adult-coded, reject the inaction mentality which characterizes other adults in the game. they become either direct supports or shields to their children from the conflict the world has to offer them, and they are always explicitly punished for their interference--link's mother is killed trying to protect her son, impa's village is burned, nabooru is brainwashed. The mother's fatal flaw is that she will protect her child above all else, even in a world in which children cannot truly be protected. however, with the exception of link's mother, these characters manage to persist even in the face of her punishment, and this is where I think navi becomes the exemplary character.
Navi, after a lifetime of being link's only support system, the only adult in his life he could truly, consistently count on, receives her punishment at the hands of ganondorf--in the final battle, she is pushed out. she is unable to reach her child. she cannot protect him. However, BECAUSE link has grown up with her at his side, he is strong enough to take ganondorf down. and when ganon rises again, navi is there to support link, promising not to leave his side, and the intuitive targeting of that battle (a mechanic which navi is inherently tied to!!) makes it a cinch to win. Navi, and the other mothers we meet, are a reminder to the player that the world doesn't HAVE to be the way it is. Their persistence when punished, their insistence that their children ought to be protected, is a reminder that good adults do exist, and that good adults raise good children. link and zelda are able to win in spite of the adults who refused to help them, but also BECAUSE of the adults who DID. It's a reinforcement of the core theme of oot--that childlike idea that the world SHOULD be good and fair and if it isn't, it should be changed until it is. The mothers of oot are examples of what the world COULD be, reminders that it is possible to grow up without losing hope or growing bitter, and they are examples of the next step for the children they've raised to change the word--to continue fighting even in the face of punishment, to refuse inaction, and to foster that same hope and persistence in the generations to come.
#one thing i've really been noticing this time around is the specific way in which navi's targeting works#because even though other 3d games have that targeting mechanic navi's targeting is noticeably different#in two ways. the first being that she specifically targets weak spots in enemies almost as if she is pointing them out to link#and the second being that she is capable of targeting things link himself doesn't see#whether it be invisible enemies or triggers that are out of his reach or scarecrow points or whatever#it's really reminiscent to me of the way you teach problem solving skills to a kid. you see them struggling with something and beginning to#get frustrated and you say 'hey let's look around. do you see any solutions?' and if they can't see the solution themself you might point#and say 'hey what's that?' just to get their attention on it and help facilitate that train of thought for them#because like in most other games targeting is sort of assumed to be link's own intuition in battle#and therefore it will usually allow you to focus on one enemy within a swarm of them but it won't explicitly light up the weak spot for you#navi does that for link because she's essentially the mother teaching her kid how to problem-solve.#and when she's taken away in the final battle link is able to fight anyway BECAUSE she put so much time and effort into raising him#that he no longer needs her to facilitate that problem-solving process. he already knows how to beat ganondorf#because he's done it with her before. and that's exactly the mother's role in her child's life#protect him and raise him as best you can so that when you can no longer be by his side he isn't afraid.#foster that sense of justice and encourage him to keep fighting to change the world even when it seems unchangeable.#god. ocarina of fucking time#zelda analysis#asks

the sole and devastating problem with monkey man is that it will literally never be able to push past the people who think the concept of the film disrespects hanuman ji to be exposed in an environment where people see it for more than its name.
#raj shitposting#my mother ACTUALLY asked me why the film took hanuman ji as the monkey god to drive the plot when there are monkey gods everywhere.#i was so shocked because wtf all those monkey gods are literally based on hanuman ji besides this is a film about an indian man.#she still thought that it was just disrespecting hinduism so i didn't let her watch past the scene with lucky in the tavern.#like i don't think indians have the tolerance or the right etiquettes to watch this film at all.#which is why i am starting to feel glad it was never released here. indians saale hain hi adipurush ke layak mcbc.#inn logo ko bhakti do to uski batti banakar filmmaker ki hi gaand mein ghusedna chayenge.#inhe violence do to kahenge humare bhagwaan aese nahi the tum log humare bhagwan ka mazak uda rahe ho.#saala chahate kya ho?#tum log behenchod adipurush dekho aur har acchi cheez ko ban hone do.#people view religion as blind devotion rather than something that allows you to connect yourself to your gods.#they don't believe their gods could make mistakes. and they sure don't believe for a goddamn second that their god could be wrong.#i am not saying monkey man is about proving god wrong because it FUCKING ISN'T.#it's about a boy who clung to a story his mother told him as a child in hopes of finding her in the ugly face of the world.#something that would allow him to keep going because that's what hanuman ji would've done. that what his mother would've wanted.#like stop this absolute crap nonsense guys this film does not call the kid hanuman it literally invokes his image to inspire the kid.#HANUMAN JI IS WHAT IS HELPING THE KID FIGHT THIS WAR WITH HIMSELF AND THE WORLD.#he's literally like the krishna to the kid's arjun. he's a guide who talks through the kid's past through his mother's voice.#tum log bajrangi bhaijaan hi dekhlo bhai tumhare andar yeh picture hazam karna ka guda nahi hai.#monkey man#dev patel

Gushing about my better childhood Dr
I want to take a minute to gush about how excited I am to shift to my better childhood dr, but specifically about how excited I am to make my communion and my confirmation in that dr, because I grew up with a mother who acted like those two days that were supposed to be about her daughter were actually about her, like my hair, dress, and makeup. Everything was all what she wanted it to be, but she made it out like it was all what I wanted when it obviously wasn't, which made me feel bad about it when I said I didn't want those things, and on those days we kind of just went where she wanted me to go, you know? We visited relatives, family, friends, and neighbours that I didn't feel comfortable around or even knew, and we'd be there purely because she wanted to show me off, which is a big part of why I'm so excited for my better childhood dr, because on those days it will actually be about me. This time I will actually wear what I want, we will visit who I want, do what I want, and it's going to be so great because I really deserve for those days to just be about me.
