MDZS AU where Wen Qing comes back too somehow and takes a lot after Wei Wuxian's jokes about dying
Whenever Wen Ning asks her if she isn't worried her new medical experiments will cause trouble, she inevitably replies with "And what are they gonna do? Burn me at the stake?"
Something catches on fire and she goes "well, at least it ain't me this time."
Researches something and goes "I'm burning to find out what this thing's about!"

Since lupa has been enslaved/ in the wilderness most of her life, does she struggle academically? Has gilga had to help her learn math, reading, etc…? Is this also why she doesn’t like talking at all?
Lupa indeed struggled, she couldnt read or write and speech was limited. So best girl gilga taught her over time. Even though she's well versed now lupa still prefers to only speak when nessesary.

RIP
The original WolfQuest Community Forum is dead -- or rather, in read-only mode.
July 25th 2007 - January 20th 2025
I am surprised it lasted for as long as it did; it always felt like its days were numbered. So sad to see it finally at its end... gonna miss checking in on it.

besides the obvious fact that two cool and impressive female characters got killed off, reducing the female presence in mdzs to ‘haunting the narrative’ level, it also sucks that wwx got two sister figures and they both died with him but only he came back

god i am in awe of wolfquest. i love wolfquest. making a pretty-realistic-for-the-time educational game that helped raise a generation of wolf kids and improving and growing it over time and eventually completely remaking the game to have as much realism and features and details they could do now, but couldn't 10 years ago. they added dog packs to lost river dude

Tale as old as time
Once upon a time, there was a large, magical forest, with trees as tall as the sky and leaves green as emeralds, and grass and flowers so plentiful they covered the ground thickly every season. Because the forest was so bountiful and welcoming, lots of animals and creatures lived there, from the quick-footed bunnies and the daring squirrels, the angry boars, boastful peacocks, the large, mystical dragons and the powerful wolves.
One day, among the animal clans that lived in the forest, a family of phoenix birds moved in, building a large palace on the tallest hill of the forest without even greeting the other beasts or abiding by the rules that everybody else had followed when settling in.
The other animal clans thought this to be very arrogant and rude, but since it did not affect them where the phoenixes lived, as nobody had ever claimed that hill before, they all let the new magical birds do as they pleased. The hill was soon full of various phoenix nests, each more grand and glittering than the last, each phoenix family bragging about its beauty, strength and riches until the whole land was nothing but phoenix birds.
The forest made for a great place for the phoenix birds and so their families grew more and more, so much that every animal clan's land had a few phoenix nests at its borders by fall. But of course, since the phoenixes were peaceful, nobody could say anything and so the animal clans let them be.
Winter rolled around that year, but it was harsher than it had ever been since the forest first sprouted. The winds were sharp and cold, howling day and night, and snow fell down from the sky with such fury that it covered everything in white. The animals had prepared for winter the best that they could: they all had plentiful food in their shelters, and had covered any cracks or opening with twigs, stones and leaves to keep out the cold.
They did as they had always done before, huddling together with their families in their burrows, waiting for the arrival of spring as they shared warmth and supplies, hoping the wrathful winter would soon pass.
But it seemed as though that winter would never end, every day colder than the last, bringing more snow and wind than the forest had ever seen before. Food became scrace little by little, and shelters became nearly as icy as the outside - so the animal clans all met in a large cave that once belonged to a bear to talk about what they could do next.
"Somebody has stolen the sun." The phoenix king said. "It should have been spring by now, but look, winter gets harsher every day, so this must be why."
The animal clans all seemed terrified by this prospect, "Who could have stolen the sun? Don't we all need it?"
"Clearly it had to have been someone who hates the phoenix clan. The sun is our life force, so in order to drive us away, somebody must have stolen the sun!"
To this, all became quiet. The past guardians of the sun had been the dragons, their clan having spent centuries guarding the heavens and the earth - but when the phoenix birds arrived, the task was given to them, much to the resentment of the dragons. So, they became the first suspects.
"We didn't steal the sun!" The dragon king spoke in a booming voice.
"If that is so, you wouldn't mind it if we visited your palace, would you?"
But the dragon clan palace was a restricted, saintly place that one couldn't simply enter, so the dragon clan refused and a great fight broke out. Powerful as they may have been, the dragons could not face the numerous phoenixes and so their palace was stormed and burned to ashes. Yet, the sun hadn't been found.
This news worried the other animal clans greatly. If the phoenixes could accuse anybody of having stolen the sun, they could all be attacked without any chance to prove innocence!
In order to avoid this, the peacock clan all bowed to the phoenix clan and said, "Dear friends, our palace is made of glass and mirrors, so you could see if we held the sun here. Won't you spare us?"
The gold the peacock clan brought greatly pleased the phoenix king, and he relented, "We will spare you, but you will be under our supervision anyway."
The peacocks didn't like it, but it was better than burning to the ground, so they relented.
The boar clan was not so easily subdued. "We cannot even reach the skies!" The boar king lamented, "How could we steal the sun?!"
"We all know you hate us as you think your father's death was our fault. So wouldn't it be like you to take revenge?"
"You did kill my father, you feathered traitors!" The boar king said as he angrily lunged at the phoenix king, and a mighty fight broke out - but in the end, the board became subdued and their king, angry enough to groan and growl for three days and three nights. Yet, the sun still had not been found.
The last animal clan left had been the wolves clan. They were all reliant on themselves and each other rather than hoping for help from the others, which earned them a reputation of mysterious but powerful creatures.
"We are creatures of the night!" The wolf king argued, "What use would we have for the sun when we have the moon?"
"Regardless, we have visited all the other clans so it wouldn't be fair not to visit yours. And we don't know what you are capable of, so we will visit your den to look for the sun too."
The wolves did not want to allow anybody in their den, though, and they fought long and hard battles, but like all the others, they did end up losing.
But what the phoenixes didn't know was that a fox had grown up in the wolf clan and, upon seeing his home in shambles, he found the very last survivors of the other clans and the wolf prince, and they stormed the phoenix palace. Turns out that the phoeix clan attacked many of the small animal families as well, though they would have been unable to have hidden the sun themselves.
"Nobody has ever visited your house." The fox said to the phoenix king, "And it seems like the sun might be here, as it has not been found anywhere else."
A great war took place for many years since that day and all clans lost many - but nobody dared give up until they won. It was with the help of all great animal clans working together that victory was finally achieved. Even the boar and peacock, sworn enemies, became sworn brothers, and in the face of such opposition, the phoenix clan had felt so humiliated they scattered to ash.
The sun was freed from its hidden prison beneath the phoenix palace and it immediately rose onto the sky, warming up the forest and finally ending the cold winter. The animals returned to their lives as they had been for years, and the phoenix clan had become easily forgotten, even their once imposing nests crumbling.
The fox, who had been the first to bring everybody together alongside the orphaned wolf prince, had had earned the appreciation of the wolf clan more than ever before, and his deeds attracted the admiration of even the second dragon prince, who became his closest friend.
And so life in the forest returned to how it had been for ages and ages, and it is said that even nowadays, the animal clans live in harmony.
"That's not how the story went." Wen Qing whispered softly as she picked up the sleeping A-Yuan from Wei Wuxian's arms.
The little one had been plagued with strange nightmares again, the Burial Mounds' thirst for blood affecting his young, fragile soul more than it did to anybody else - which was why Wei Wuxian had taken him to his cave to tell him a story as he warded off the spirits that wanted the boy to become one of their own.
It worked, as it always did.
"Children's stories need to have happy endings." Wei Wuxian added as he draped his own outer robe over the young boy. "Even if ours don't."
