the dunder mifflin christmas party... was proving to be as boring as you expected it to be. the walls were half-heartedly draped in limp tinsel and cheap decorations that screamed 'we tried, but not really.' and as your aunt phyllis dutifully dragged you from co-worker to co-worker, you were forced to engage in the most awkward small talk. some of her colleagues were polite, while others were... interesting to say the least. the second you were done making the rounds you scurried off, finding a secluded desk in the back a perfect hiding spot from the draining festivities.

finally alone, you checked your phone for what felt like the hundredth time. scrolling through instagram, you were greeted with another post from your ex looking infuriatingly cozy in matching holiday pajamas with someone new.

"so which one of these sad-sacks are you related to?"

you nearly dropped your phone as you snapped your head up, meeting the dark, curious eyes of an unfamiliar curly-haired boy. his demeanor made him appear as though he only wandered into this tragically depressing event for the free cookies.

"uh, phyllis," you replied, thrown off by his sudden appearance. where the hell had he come from?

"venus? no way." he snickered.

"phyllis," you corrected, unsure how he even got venus from that. "she’s my—"

before you could finish, the boy’s response was cut short by the arrival of your aunt’s boss, michael, who swaggered over—santa hat crooked, digital camera in hand. he threw an arm around the boy’s shoulder.

"luuuuke! lukey luke, my duke!" michael exclaimed, with sickening enthusiam "sneaking around, huh? making out in the back room? classic christmas partayy"

you looked over at luke, who simply let out a nervous chuckle. "no we're not-"

"picture!" before either of you could articulate your protest, the flash went off, blinding you momentarily. "you guys keep it up and you might end up on the front page of the newsletter- naughty naughty kids!" michael beamed at his impromptu masterpiece, ruffling luke’s hair like a proud uncle before wandering off, humming an off-key christmas carol in search of his next victim.

"well, that’s who i'm related to"

"hmm?" you murmured absentmindedly, distracted by another notification. your ex again—this time, a family picture, the both of them grinning like they’d been handpicked for a hallmark card. "yeah uh-"

there was a sudden burst of cheering from the main party room, loud enough to shake the flimsy tinsel on the walls. you and luke exchanged a glance before heading over to investigate.

michael was at the center of the commotion, grinning like a man who’d just won the lottery, surrounded by a precarious pyramid of vodka bottles—fifteen of them, to be exact. it was hard to say where he’d gotten them or how he’d managed to sneak them in, but judging by the energy in the room, no one was asking questions.

the party had clearly turned a corner. people were singing, dancing, and chattering animatedly, the earlier awkwardness replaced by a chaotic, boozy camaraderie.

it sucked.

not the party itself, but the fact that while everyone else seemed to be having a good time you were still wrestling with the dull ache of everything you’d been trying to ignore. with a resigned sigh, you strode over to the pyramid and swiped one of the bottles, ignoring michael’s thumbs-up and exaggerated wink as you made your way back to luke.

he was leaning against the desk where you’d left him, arms crossed, a faintly amused expression on his face.

"i hate christmas."

"you ever watch die hard?" luke asked with soft laughter, eyeing you as you unscrewed the cap with a little more force than necessary.

"die hard?" you repeated, the vodka scorching its way down your throat as you took a swig. at least it distracted you from the other kind of burn. "like the bruce willis movie?"

"yeah. the bruce willis christmas classic" he said, leaning back like he was delivering a hot take.

"oh… i guess i forgot about that part" you handed him the bottle, watching as he tipped it back for a drink.

"forgot? it’s literally what the plot revolves around," luke lowered the bottle, giving you a look like you’d just failed a pop quiz.

"yeah okay whatever" you shrugged. "how old are you again?"

"twenty," he replied, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand.

"perfect. i’m going to kiss you now."

his eyes widened, but only for a second. "what? uh—cool."

you leaned in, closing the gap between you, but just as your lips met his, a blinding flash lit up the room.

Do you have a number one Hotchgan moment in the show, and if so, why is it that moment?

Okay, listen up. I tried. I really really tried to think of ONE moment and I just...couldn't. So instead you get all of this. (Imagine me gesturing wildly with my hands at this pathetic display of complete adoration for two fictional men.)

First, we have this moment in 1x08 where Morgan looks at Hotch and silently makes sure he's okay. The way Morgan looks and Hotch nods and not a word is said drives me up the wall. (Also, the fact that Morgan knew they needed Perotta alive and still wanted to put a bullet between his eyes while he had Hotch garotted is pretty epic.)

Now...do you have any favorite moments that I didn't include? Because there are still a ton of amazing golden moments that I either didn't have stills for. Like when they're pulling out the huge guns and Reid says he doesn't have the clearance to play with those guns and they both say "You don't " at the same time? Or when Hotch smirks over Morgan being so irritated with Reid after he proves he does actually know things when Kate challenges him? Or in Demonology when Hotch asks Morgan what he thinks because he knows he's having a hard time being impartial because Emily is so invested emotionally? Or in ...and Back when Morgan says to Hotch that he can't be at the farm anymore and Hotch doesn't even ask why or to justify himself, he just tells him to keep in touch. OR in 25 to Life when Morgan goes to the car to make a phone call and I just KNOW it's Hotch he's calling...

Moral of the story: I am incapable of being normal about them. Sorry this took me so long to answer but I think now you can see why...it short circuited my whole brain.

During that painful ass conversation about Claire and Carmy at the start of 3x02 Next, Carmy discloses what he said to Claire while trapped in the walk-in,

"I said that I thought it was all a waste of time. Because I am who I am."

And as he's saying the above, the camera cuts to Sydney's reaction:

At first I thought this was the face of the same deeply empathetic person who told Carmy in 2x08 Bolognese to figure out if Claire was his girlfriend or his friend-who's-a-girl (I agree with the folks that say Syd was jealous in 2x08...but she was still guarded in terms of not being vulnerable about her own feelings with Carmy). But on this rewatch of 3x02, with the hindsight of the metaphorical under-the-table sex and wedding in 2x09 Omelette, with Carmy screaming Syd's name in the walk-in during 2x10 The Bear, with the "I left you alone-So don't let it happen again-Its never gonna happen again" from 3x01 Tomorrow, Syd's reaction in 3x02 started to seem more like that of a person who had thought about romance with Carmy and who is hearing from him that he has no time for that kind of a relationship because he's not built for it. It starts to look like someone thinking "what the fuck have I been doing here? This is never going to happen."

Or maybe I'm delulu. What do others think?

Sydney's search for connection.

The more I rewatch The Bear I can't tell if I'm overthinking or if this show is so layered it's near perfection.

I love the themes of mothers, nourishment, generational trauma, loss, showing up for people, caring for people, mental health. I could carry on...

But I love this small moment in 2x03 Sundae and its theme surrounding mothers, loss, and needing others. We're told that Syd wants to make up for a failed business throughout the show but beneath that is another longing.

This scene tells me about Syd's need for connection. But being with people requires vulnerability which is one of Syd's struggles.

Based on what the show tells us, Syd doesn't have the best experience being vulnerable with others. There are always awkward but funny moments when Syd connects with people.

Since she's experienced loss at such a young age, it's almost foreign to her to sympathize, not that she can't sympathize she just doesn't express it properly. The first moment in 1x02 when she awkwardly apologizes to Richie about Mikey's death. The second moment in 2x02 Pasta is when she says to Marcus, "It was just a hat?"

A third moment dismisses Carmy's empathy for her mother's passing. Syd's lesson is that being surrounded by people is sharing a loss together. I'm sure in season 3 with Marcus' mom's passing, this is her chance to be there for someone.

We won't always have the most rewarding experience with people but we have to keep trying.

We can't blame Syd for such awkwardness. She's an only child and alone is a safety net. The opposite of having a psychopath behind her yelling, pushing, screaming...

But the safety of being alone fails and she's back to working with people again. This time she works for Carmy. It's a risk but she has ambition and urgency. To erase a past failure. To change the pattern. Because being surrounded by people can make her successful- it fills a void.

What I love about Sydney is that there's more of an awareness. She's aware she has to change a pattern, and be part of a team. Sydney tells her dad in 2x02 that she's at a different place, not alone, in his house. She has a partner. Sydney has a chance to be vulnerable with Carmy and, despite its challenges, she is willing to do so.

But like Carmy, her mental health isn't the best. As the show progresses and what 2x10 gave us I hope we dive deeper into Sydney's head.

2x10 – Merry Ex-Mas thoughts

Well… this ep made me scream for a couple of very different reasons.

The emergencies this ep were suitably Christmas-y which was appropriate to watch in December. I don’t know what it is about Christmas lights that incite war cries in neighbours but it was a fun opening.

Maddie’s emergency with that poor worker stuck in a box and nearly getting shipped out was also fun. Creative and I’m glad he survived.

Chris’ Christmas wish being to see Shannon again was very sweet. I’m glad Eddie made it happen but seriously, what are these two playing at? They’re now sleeping together again and sneaking around. They reminisce about things with Chris but tellingly none of those events actually happened when both of them were there at the same time. I’m not sure of the timeline for these two. I don’t know how long they’ve been married but let’s say Eddie was in service for 2/3 years, Shannon’s been absent for 2. Even if they’ve been married for 7/8 years, they’ve spent nearly as long apart as they have together.

I’m not just saying this because I enjoy Buddie’s chemistry but I can’t see Eddie and Shannon lasting long. They’re both very argumentative.

Speaking of Buddie though, the writers really went out of their way to slap the viewers around the head with a literal Christmas elf and said, “look at them, they’re a family!”. Adorable scene. I got cavities.

Bobby and Athena had me screaming first. I’m not sure if it’s because they’re an older couple or what but I enjoy the lack of world ending relationship drama between Bobby and Athena. They’re not on the same page? They work to get themselves on the same page. It’s refreshing. They both work hard to see other’s points of view and Athena even confided in Michael who was able to offer her some perspective. And they’re engaged!! Cheers all around!!!

OK, so I had a little giggle when I saw Brian Hallisay appear as “Jason” with Chim in the Christmas tree yard because I know he’s married to Jennifer Love Hewitt so I thought (naively!) it was a fun thrown in scene. Then he appeared again. And then came the final reveal with him actually being Doug, not “Jason”. Cue me screaming wildly at the TV (again).

AH!! How long has Doug been hanging around that he recognises Chim? Did Doug just see him with Buck (who I’m guessing he recognised) and saw an opportunity or was he following Buck in the hopes of finding Maddie? Or does he already know where Maddie is and he’s been following her?

Ugh. Not Good! I was busy cooing over how cute and sweet Chim and Maddie are and then BAM! Flashback reveal. No more cooing.

I am very not OK after this ep. I am very, very concerned and might be slightly freaking out...

Costume Spotlight: Guillermo's Sweaters in Season 2

At long last, I'm returning to the sweater pile to do a deep dive on our favorite knit-clad vampire slayer, Guillermo de la Cruz. In season one, Guillermo wore sixteen different sweaters across the season's ten episodes. In my first post I did an overview of the different types of knits and some of the little character nods I noticed in the later episodes.

Guillermo wears fourteen different sweaters across season 2, with roughly half of those being new sweaters for the season--there's one I can't quite decide if it's a new sweater or the same one he wore in 1x02 to the city council meeting, but in different lighting. That being said, someone give me his thrifting skills (and storage skills)! This is also the season where he debuts his iconic slayer trench coat and stake bandolier, but I'll do a separate post on those.

Season two's sweaters are heavy on the Fair Isle knits and cardigans, with many appearances of a new fuzzy red striped cardigan that debuts in 2x01 (pictured above). I almost think of this as Guillermo's character development cardigan, because of when he wears it throughout the season:

2x01- Just before he slays his first vampire assassin of the season.

2x08 - When he tells Nandor about Celeste's offer and then leaves.

2x09 - Throughout the episode, where we see him taking a break for the first time and refusing to listen to Nadja trying to get him to end it early, when he finds a way out of the room of doors for himself, Nadja, and Colin Robinson, and when he comes up with a compromise to save Laszlo, Colin Robinson, and Nandor from the witches.

2x10 - At his mom's apartment when he's talking about why he left, and to the Theatre when he slays all the vampires and rescues Nandor, Laszlo, Nadja, and Colin Robinson.

He also debuts a fourth Coogi sweater in 2x01, this one a vertical striped pattern with dark navy and turquoise elements.

Yet another new addition to the sweater collection is this gorgeous brown and red Fair Isle v-neck pullover with a solid brown collar and cuffs. It's similar to a sweater he wears in season 1, but better fitted and with a nicer pattern.

Another noticeable new addition is this blue and gold Fair Isle v-neck from 2x06:

I want to see if there are more appearances of this one in later seasons, as it only appears in this one episode of season 2 as far as I can tell.

There's this geometric gray and black mosaic knit cardigan he wears in 2x07 to consider:

And of course, the iconic yellow cardigan and rainbow turtleneck combo from 2x08:

This sweater is such a departure from everything else he wears! So much brighter, while also being less dated. Most of Guillermo's sweaters (the fuzzy cardigan that screams 2013 aside) look like something from the 80s or 90s found in a vintage shop...or a grandparent's attic. This cardigan stands out as a very clearly modern take on a retro style (I'd say late 60s/early 70s), like something you'd get from ModCloth, and is a thinner material than most of his others as well.

Is he dressing to fit into his new household? Or is this the kind of thing Guillermo would rather wear, in an environment where he feels more comfortable and supported? We never see this sweater again, even as Guillermo gains more power and respect in Nandor's household, and we never see him wear anything like it again, either, so it's hard to say.

Lastly, there's this Intarsia knit cardigan in brown and green that appears for this hilarious brief moment in 2x10:

Season 1 Sweater Appearances

In addition to his new sweaters, Guillermo reprises several sweaters from season 1. His gray Fair Isle cardigan from 1x05 and 1x10:

The first Coogi (or Coogi-esque) sweater from season 1, with the horizontal pattern and red accents:

The lovely bird-patterned Fair Isle from 1x02 that will continue to show up all the way through season 5, and even in a promo photo from season 6:

And this thing, which I still can't decide if it's a brand-new sweater in different lighting, or the sweater Guillermo wore to the city council meeting in 1x02:

I don't have a ton of information on knitting styles to include this time, a I covered a lot of that ground in the season 1 post, but I do think it's interesting that Guillermo in this season wears some more vivid colors (the addition of more reds for him this season is especially intriguing), better fitting sweaters, and higher quality ones. While of course this could simply be due to a bigger budget for the show's sophomore season, I also think it's part of an ongoing evolution of Guillermo's style over the course of the show.

As he gains more confidence, it begins to show in his wardrobe. He even unbuttons that top button on his shirt a few times this season! And as he comes into his own more and more as a powerful vampire slayer, I think his clothes echo that as well.

I WROTE A FIC BASED ON SEVERANCE FINAL EPISODE

Mark's outie woke up in the elevator Irving had directed him to, his body and part of his face covered in blood.

He stared at his hands for a moment, also soaked in blood. He didn't know who his innie had killed, but whoever it was, he was sure they deserved it.

He and his innie didn't agree on many things, except for the most important of all: that Lumon should cease to exist.

Mark tried not to stare at the blood too much, and after enduring a slight dizziness, he got out of the elevator and headed down the white corridors, looking for the door he was looking for, behind which you were supposedly: his wife, the person whom, despite being led to believe you were dead, his innie discovered you weren't.

It turned out you were alive somewhere in that damned place, and Mark was willing to do anything to find you.

He looked down at his hands again and realized he was holding a gun. He wondered where his outie had gotten it, but it was clear that didn't matter at that moment.

He didn't even check to see if it was loaded: a gun, even if it didn't have bullets, is still good enough to threaten someone if necessary.

His outie held the weapon tightly as he walked straight down the endless hallway lined with doors, looking for the one with the file name he'd just completed.

He quickly read the names on each one without success, and just when he thought he'd be gone, his eyes read the two words he'd been waiting so long to find: Cold Harbor.

He ran toward it, but before he could reach the door, a woman in a nurse's uniform blocked his path.

"You can't be here," she said very seriously, as if seeing a man covered in blood and holding a gun didn't affect her in the slightest. "If you don't leave right now, I'm going to call Mr. Milchick."

"I'm not going anywhere without my wife," he declared, nodding behind her. "Open the door."

"I can't do that," the woman blurted out.

Mark was tired of all that shit. He just wanted to go home with you and pretend it all didn't happen. He wanted to get back to the life you had together, before Lumon came into your lives and turned them upside down

"You misunderstood me," Mark growled, pointing the gun at her head. "I told you to open the fucking door!"

"No!"

"Open the fucking door or I'll blow your fucking head off!"

"You're not going to kill me," her outie cursed, having no idea whether the gun had bullets or not

"You're not going to kill me," she decreed. Mark gave a smile halfway between amused and malicious

"Do you really want to check?" he said, putting the gun to his temple "I'll say it just one more time," he murmured "Open the door, or I'll paint these walls with your blood"

"Fine, fine! I'll fucking open it!" the woman said, placing her hand on the reader that unlocked the door

When it opened, Mark's gaze focused on her for a long time before gesturing toward the hallway.

"You have five seconds to get back the way you came before I kill you," he murmured, "and I'm warning you, I have very good aim," he murmured very seriously. "I won the hoops game we played at Dylan's waffle party," he added, pointing the gun at her. "Time's ticking," he said, placing his index finger on the trigger. "One…" he whispered. "Two…"

The woman started running away from him. By the time she reached five, he had disappeared from sight. Then Mark turned around and saw you. You were dismantling a baby crib.

He tried to contain the anger he felt toward the people who had done this to you.

It was just proof that you had no feelings, no emotions of any kind. He stopped himself from screaming in rage before walking slowly over to where you were.

"Honey," he whispered. You turned to him, holding the screwdriver high, afraid he'd hurt you. "It's me," he murmured. "It's Mark." He gave a gentle smile. "I've come to take you home."

"I don't know who you are," you replied, and the fear and coldness he saw in your eyes was enough for Mark to know you meant it. "How did you get here?"

"This is a long story short," he murmured, clicking his tongue with ill-disguised impatience. "I know you don't know me right now, but your outie knows who I am." He held out his hand to you. "I know this is going to sound very strange, but your name is Y/N Scout," he said, "and you're my wife," he explained. "The only way we can be together again the way we both want is if you come with me, please," he added, looking at you firmly.

You didn't know who this man was, but there was something in his words and the tone of his voice that told you that what he was saying was true, and that therefore you could trust him.

So you took his hand and he led you out of the room where you were.

Then it was as if you were waking up for the first time.

You experienced a sensation of falling, before returning to your senses and noticing the face of the person in front of you facing you, and the hand that held yours with the same strength and warmth it always had.

You looked up quickly, and that's when you saw him. Mark was there, and he'd come for you.

"Mark," you almost sobbed, happy as never before in your life to recognize him, when you didn't even think you'd see him again. "Is that you?"

"It's me, baby," he smiled, holding you in his arms. "It's me," he said, squeezing you against his chest, and you cried against him without being able to stop yourself. "Shh, calm down, you're okay, everything's going to be okay."

"But how? I…" you hiccuped. "Oh, Mark, I'm so sorry, I…"

"You have nothing to apologize for," he interrupted, placing a loving kiss on your forehead. "The important thing is that I found you and we're together," he said, holding your hand tightly. "Now we have to get out of here."

You nodded and let him guide you through the hallways back to the elevator.

Because it didn't matter what happened to you anymore, those few moments when you were able to return to who you were were the real reward.

season 6 mike in prison arc my beloved. plus 6x12 the painting harvey mommy issues episode!!

season 1 so fun so cute theyre all young and the show is still that fun monster of the week format they had in the early seasons

season 8 im not done with yet BUT i love it!!!!! i really really like the addition of alex and samantha

season 4 loved the fucked up love square between mike and rachel and logan and harvey. and 4x15 intent CRAZYASS episode! "you know i love you donna" OHHHH

season 3 bookended by my one of my favorite opener + finale pair ... it starts with harvey yelling about mike betraying him and ends with mike screaming in an interrogation room hed never give harvey up .... chefs kiss

season 2 tbh i dont remember much if anything that happened in s2 but i remember thinking the show hit a bit of a sophomore slump. but 2x10 high noon obviously iconic episode!
