Photo from Harvey's Instagram
Harvey's outfit was created by Japanese-American designer Ashton Hirota, founder of Ashton Michael, as part of his 2023 Punk-Tsugi collection. The collection is heavily inspired by grunge aesthetics, using distressed materials and 3D-printed elements to create a look that's luxurious with an edge. (Source)
Hirota has designed for Avril Lavigne, Beyoncé, Adam Lambert, and Cher, just to name a few. He has catered primarily to entertainment professionals in Los Angeles and Hollywood looking for unique looks throughout his career, though he also has a ready-to-wear line, ASH by Ashton Michael, which launched in 2020. (Source)
The look was finished with a pair of black leather lug sole lace-up loafers from Alexander McQueen ($1,090 at Nieman Marcus).

Harvey's look for this event was styled by Melvin Sanders, with hair by Connie Agawin and makeup by Romie Macedo, according to Harvey's IG post.
GLAAD 2025 Latine Honors - March 25, 2025
Tumblr media
Harvey attended the GLAAD 2025 Latine Honors event last night, and I'm screaming over this outfit!!
The eyelash yarn knit with the dangling golden chains and sequin stripes, the giant silver safety pins and the buckle collar...such fun, unique details! The combination feels unexpected, and a little nostalgic. It reminds me of the DIY goth and punk looks my friends and I wore as teens, but elevated. The straight leg trousers and platform combat boots really finish the look perfectly.
Tumblr media
I love Harvey's big barrel curls sculpted into a faux-hawk, too. The arrangement plays up his highlights to really make him look limned in gold! And the big, glam sunglasses throw me right back to the late 2000s in the best way. Like Mike Posner's "Cooler Than Me" should play whenever Harvey walks into a room in this outfit.
Not sure of the fit details yet, but I'll write a follow-up once I have that info!

Outfit Details
Harvey's suit was designed by Blake Patterson, a fashion and costume designer who previously appeared on season 14 of Project Runway. He also teamed up with fellow Project Runway alum Jake Wall in 2016 for Jake + Blake, a ready-to-wear collection taking inspiration from the popular 80s soap opera Dynasty. Much like Harvey's go-to red carpet designer, Christian Siriano, Patterson's experience lies mainly in women's formalwear, with men's wear being a later branch out for him, partially under Wall's mentorship. (Source)
Since then, Patterson has worked on his own luxury brand as well as costume design for film and television. (Source)
He was nominated for a daytime Emmy for his costume design on the Netflix show Eastsiders in 2020. (Source - will download a PDF of the nominations)
This look was styled by Melvin Sanders, with hair by Connie Agawin and makeup by Romie Macedo, according to Harvey's IG post.
Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Road Trip Premiere - March 26, 2025
Tumblr media
Harvey Guillén attended the LA premiere of Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Road Trip yesterday in a gorgeous black and metallic blue suit with dark teal peaked lapels and a cropped jacket silhouette.
Tumblr media
The suit was paired with a sheer black mock-neck mesh top and brushed leather loafers from Prada ($1,270).
He finished the outfit with an Akoya stainless steel and synthetic pearl necklace from Vitaly ($135), stacked with an additional stainless steel necklace of unknown origin (I couldn't find it anywhere on Vitaly's site, but it's very similar to their overall vibe).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Style Notes
I love Vitaly's design and ethos, so I was excited to see Harvey wearing them again! He has previously worn their Warp necklace out and about during his birthday celebrations last year. I'm also a big fan of wearing a mesh top under a suit jacket--it really cuts through the stuffy formality of a tuxedo with some modernity and a cheeky little flash of skin while still keeping the look elevated.
The addition of jewelry really takes this look to another level in my opinion. The stainless steel goes beautifully with the cool tones of the suit, and that little peak at the pearls adds a touch of softness to an outfit that's otherwise all edge.
This suit also appears to be tailored better than the previous two Harvey has worn this year, though the texture and drape of the material is a bit odd. It's giving metallic sand in some places and plastic bag in others. I'm not sure if that could be fixed with tailoring--maybe this fabric would have worked better with a wide leg?--or if maybe this was just an odd choice of material for trousers. What I wouldn't give to pick the brains of the designers and stylists who dress this man!
Overall, this feels like a return to a formula that works, with some small changes and new accessories to avoid stagnation. Harvey always looks amazing in a cropped jacket--some examples below.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If I find additional details on the suit's designer and material, or the origin of the second necklace, I'll do a follow-up post. Affordable options coming soon too, I'm excoted to try to recreate this vibe within a regular, non-famous person budget. 😅

Photos from Marvin Lemus's IG.
Jewel Tones & Textures
Director Marvin Lemus (Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Road Trip) posted a reel today with some gorgeous shots of Harvey included.
I don't have details on the clothing items as it's tough to get any search hits with these angles, but what an outfit! The green silk really pops against the golden tones in Harvey's skin and the muted background. The texture contrast between the silk and suede is SO good. I have frankly never seen anyone wear a bolo tie better than this. That epic side eye from Harvey is killing me, and is that another temporary tattoo I spy?
I'll see if I can find some plausible affordable options to recreate this look sometime this week!

A Style Motif for 2025
Tumblr media
Since Harvey's collaborations with Christian Siriano began in 2023, his red carpet moments have tended to share features for each year, bringing daring innovations on men's suits to nearly every event.
That first year, it was elevated tuxedos with luxurious trains, shoulder bows, and cropped jackets.
Tumblr media
In 2024, it was the incorporation of corsetry, mesh, and stunning embroidery.
Tumblr media
For 2025, Harvey appears to be branching out and pushing the envelope with backless blazers--and new designer collaborations!
Recently Harvey attended the 33rd annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party in a black suit with a twist: not only was the jacket a wrap-style closure with a plunging neckline, it was backless!
Tumblr media
Photo by Maarten de Boer for People Magazine.
The wool suit is a custom design by Jonathan Marc Stein Atelier, according to Harvey's Instagram post. The back of the jacket features an elegant gold chain and the belt, with the majority of the back open to the air.
As I mentioned in my breakdown of formal suiting for the post on Guillermo's wedding suit, the single-breasted or wrap jacket style is normally paired with a shawl collar and reserved for elegant but casual at-home wear in classic suiting, such as smoking and lounging jackets.
In this case, however, Stein paired the wrap closure with the much more formal peaked lapels of a tuxedo, usually reserved for black tie or white tie events. The look is finished with a golden lapel chain and four gold buttons on the cuffs, another touch of extra formality. The combination is unexpected, with an overall effect that is sophisticated, sexy, and daring. It speaks subtly of the kind of person who both knows the "rules" of formalwear, and also feels secure enough to break them.
Tumblr media
The look was finished with fingerwaves by Connie Agawin and makeup by Romie Macedo. The look was styled by Melvin Sanders, who previously styled Harvey for his appearances on The Drew Barrymore Show and The View earlier this year.
The Designer
Stein is a 29-year-old designer from Ohio whose mission statement includes creating "garments for everyone" that "mirror the diverse qualities of the individuals for which they are made." (Source)
This ties into Harvey's style ethos concepts of inclusivity and authentic self-expression (though it should be noted, Stein's ready-to-wear size guide only goes to a women's XXL--not the first time I've seen similar from a designer claiming to be for "everyone," but unfortunate nonetheless).
Inclusivity is a bit of a fraught concept for the luxury fashion space in general, but that's an essay for another time. It's great in any case to see another designer working with Harvey for his red carpet looks. Christian Siriano is wonderful and will always get props from me for being a trailblazer in this regard, but if he continued to be the only option for actors of size, that would signal little headway being made in breaking the stranglehold thinness and fatphobia have on the entertainment industry.
Speaking of Siriano
...this is the second backless look Harvey has served this year, with the first being the custom Siriano teal velvet suit worn to the designer's own New York Fashion Week show.
Tumblr media
Are we in for more backless looks for Harvey on the red carpet in 2025? I hope so!
Notes on Construction
One small quibble I have with both this and the Siriano backless look is the tailoring of the jackets. I realize that any tailoring on something as structured as a suit jacket must be made vastly more difficult by having a good third of the garment's usual construction taken away, but that's no excuse for awkward fitting on a custom piece.
This could perhaps be forgiven for Stein, who has less than a decade of experience under his belt, if he didn't tout his family's history in tailoring and his own background in engineering specifically as selling points for his designs. And Christian Siriano has been working in fashion since the Bush administration! Harvey looks gorgeous regardless, of course, but it doesn't seem unfair to say that a garment custom made for him should fit him better.
That being said, the concept of the backless blazer is still a triumph, in my opinion, and I cannot wait to see what else Harvey has in store for the red carpet this year!

Kyoto, Japan - February 24, 2025
Tumblr media
Harvey's adventures in Japan continued with a trip to Kyoto on Monday. This time he kept the cold out with a combination of designer and Disney.
Tumblr media
Harvey kept in the warmth with a fluffy oversized hoodie from the same collection as his new corduroy Mickey ears cap.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The hoodie comes in sizes M and L (no measurements given) and retails for ¥6,200 ($41.32 USD). It features ears on the hood, a zip closure, front pockets, and a Mickey patch near the hem on the back and on the cuffs.
Tumblr media
He topped this with a sea green puffer jacket from Dior, previously seen on his trip to Chicago.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The jacket comes in sizes up to XXXL (no measurements given), and features a repeating oblique Dior logo pattern as well as a Dior patch on the arm. It retails for $3,100 but is currently only available from Dior in black and navy. It's available for resale in the sea green color, but the prices can be almost double its original retail price.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Harvey finished the outfit with his orange Bmay camera bag and LV Checker Ranger boots.

Mt. Fuji, Japan - February 23, 2025
Tumblr media
Harvey's third day in Japan was spent enjoying the incredible sights of Mt. Fuji.
Tumblr media
For this outing, Harvey wore the red and white Dillies print jacket from Marni he previously wore for his appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show earlier this month.
He finished the look with a pair of black skinny jeans and black boots.
Tumblr media
He also had a great time pretending to be Elphaba (I mean, who wouldn't!).
All photos from Harvey's Instagram.
