I see a lot of people (rightfully) complaining about their sciatica, and I know many of these people might not be able to see physical therapists or doctors for various reasons, so it’s time to learn about the sciatic nerve glide! This will help with numbness, and also some pain, and it’s super easy. It’s technically a stretch.
Instructions
Sit with the affected leg stretched out a bit with your heel on the floor, foot is angled upwards.
This sounds weird for a back stretch, but lean over.
With your heel still on the floor, angle your foot up and down like pushing on a pedal.
Sometimes you will feel a stretch in your muscles, but this is stretching and moving your nerve. This has helped me bring feeling back into my leg.
As with any stretch, don’t do it too quickly, or for too long, and listen to your body.

Probably one of the hardest parts of chronic pain, for some, is that there's a chance you'll never live a pain free life. Some people are lucky enough to never know it, or only know it briefly. maybe it'll become manageable with the right treatment plans, and sometimes not.
I've had some form of pain and mobility issues my entire life. Whatever we have, we were likely born with. Or at the very least, it's something that will stay long term. There's a good chance I'll never know a life without chronic pain and the grievances it can bring. But I'd like to hope there's better management in my future since I haven't been told otherwise yet. ☘️

being stuck in a body that’s so full of pains i cannot explain is tiring like i have so many intense unexplainable aches that i’ll never be able to accurately convey in a way that’s understandable for someone who will most likely never experience these struggles

i have really been downplaying my chronic pain for far too long now. i was filling out forms to start physical therapy and it made me choose which sentence fits best. most were along the lines of “i am in so much pain that blank activity is no longer something i engage in” and i just started crying. there is so much that i just can’t do and if my father had let me get treatment i would be able to do those things right now.
i’ve spent far too many nights not being able to fall asleep because my muscles have grown into webs of knots and pressure my nerves so much that i feel it in my throat. not my neck. my throat. and my lungs. i’ve had breathing issues for years.
and i have a slew of other medical issues that have gone unattended because in comparison to that pain, it’s nothing, even if that pain is what’s causing it.
i’m so sick and tired.

Did 5 laps at rehab today and stopped to talk to the exercise therapist and she asked how my legs felt and I thought for a minute and was like
"Uh, actually I kind of can't feel them right now and they're kinda wobbly and jellylike"
And she was like hey uhm. Sit down maybe??
I guess if you don't know that I frequently have dulled feeling/numbness in my legs due to my sciatica that might be a little alarming to hear lol

hi guys uhhhhh genuine question.
i have really bad nerve pain in one of my legs and have had it for a long time now. nothing i've done has seemed to help it other than laying down in bed (which obviously isn't always an option). i've looked into walking canes but i'm not sure.
should i go to the doctor and ask their advice before trying a cane? should i just go for it? is there any specific one to avoid/get? i just think anything that could help take some pressure off my leg/nerve would help.
sorry this is long but i'd really appreciate any advice <3
edit: I have a cane and it's helping lots :)

okay been wearing my foot/ankle braces for like 10 hours now and i definitely think theres something Going On w my right sciatic nerve. as far as i can tell ive got both on equally snug and yet, while my left ankle/foot feels great, my right does not. i had a sciatica flare-up that got so bad i had to take the brace off for a bit, and now that its been back on for ~10 minutes im starting to get the same neuropathy symptoms again. it seems to be triggered by my foot being at a right angle, cause when i take the brace off and stretch it out it feels better almost immediately. from my research it looks like that could be bc bending my foot stretches the nerve, whereas straightening my foot relaxes it. this also tracks w other things i can do to relieve the pain, which usually involve relaxing the nerve, vs things that aggravate it, which usually involve stretching it.
and!! additionally!! i found out the sciatic nerve connects to the spinal column around the lower lumbar/upper sacral vertebrae. yknow, right where i have a known malformation. technically theres the S1 lumbarization plus the tilted pelvis, which i wouldnt be surprised at all to find out could cause issues. some rando in reddit mentioned seeing signs of sacroiliitus on my right side too, which, yeah, that absolutely tracks, ive been having SI joint pain on that side for years.
anyway, i dont need to get into my whole medical history rn aldkakfkaf i just like laying it all out like that to prove to myself that there are plausible reasons for my pain other than just "youre fat/out of shape", things that could be diagnosed if only doctors would look. it also helps to know what specific symptoms are potential indicators of stuff like this, so i know what to point out. even saying smth like "chronic sciatic nerve pain/neuropathy radiating from the lumbar/sacral area down to my calf and right foot, activated by stretching the sciatic nerve/lumbar region/leg/foot, worst at night or when sitting/standing, relieved by walking/relaxing the sciatic nerve" gives me a better chance at being taken seriously than just "chronic low back pain". i rly rly hope so anyway :/
