SCI 2016 FD moments

- K&C cuteness, S grabbing some gifts and making T laugh with a good joke “don’t take two years off. It’s hard”.

- A close lil moment during a run through.

- Family hugs! This sweet lil unique family dynamic of Ma and Pa and their lil ice bbys. I’m so happy they found their way back to them and they found love for their sport again.

- Coordinated water bottle sips - a little bit creepy

- Truly one of their most beautiful hugs. There’s always so much compassion in their hugs. They mean so much to them. They hold each other so gently. He takes her like ‘I’m here kiddo 🥺’ and the way she breathes into his hands as I’m sure he is to her’s. The vulnerability in his eyes, leaning into her like she his whole world. It’s just so special they enter their own little bubble completely unaware, separated from their surroundings 💕

- A wee lil ‘up you hop kiddo’ back pat then a bff low five.

-A ‘don’t you dare be mad at yourself kiddo’ post skate cuddle after T messed up some twizzles.

-T playing with S’s hair in the softest choreo cuddle you will ever see

- And finally the softest thing in this gif set: T instinctually reaching out for S, him reacting to that, sensing her nerves and giving her the softest lil cheek kiss. Poor bbys must’ve been so nervous. In those moments they would be so grateful to have each other and know everything will be ok because just by holding hands or locking eyes or even a lil cheek kiss they can reassure each other.

Star Trek Beyond premiered on July 22, 2016. The film was dedicated to Anton Yelchin (Chekov), who died a month before the film's release. The film was used to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Star Trek franchise. It was the first theatrical release that protrayed Sulu (John Cho) as being gay, which created some controversy. The move was meant as a tribute to the original Sulu (George Takei), who is a prominent gay man and gay rights advocate. However, Takei responded “I’m delighted that there’s a gay character,” he was quoted by The Hollywood Reporter. “Unfortunately, it’s a twisting of Gene’s creation, to which he put in so much thought. I think it’s really unfortunate.” J.J. Abrams handed over directing duties to Justin Lin as he was busy directing Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens. Simon Pegg (Scotty) co-wrote it with Doug Jung, Roberto Orci, Patrick McKay, and John D Payne. The film was nominated for numerous awards, but only won a Saturn Award for Best Make-Up. The film underperformed at the box office losing approximately 50.5 million dollars. The events of the film took place in March of 2263.

rewatched arrival for the hundredth time. this movie never fails to gut punch me with its approach to determinism. louise embracing her future that she knows every moment of, despite the tremendous loss and pain it contains, with open arms. she doesn't hesitate, or ruminate on how she can try and change it. she accepts it all, the good and the bad, because what she gains is worth it, so many times over for her. she steels herself against a certain future and runs forward to meet it all, to love, learn, and lose, and trusts and leans on herself to live through it all. because that's what life is; it's the joy and the suffering. to try and isolate the joy alone is madness, futility in its purest definition.

comparing her line of thinking to a palindrome (how she named her daughter, hannah), the movie kept emphasizing, "it's the same backwards as it is forwards." it doesn't matter if you can see the end; life is the same whether you live it "forwards" (without knowledge of the future) or "backwards" (with foresight). it doesn't change the significance of your life experiences; to try and avoid certain future pain just because you have the knowledge of it is a zero sum game. you think you win because you avoided pain, but you also avoided the joy that preceded it. the metamorphosis. so you still lose if you try to win, and vice-versa.

all you can do is rush forward and take it all head-on. see this whole beautiful mess as your one most precious gift; this one life, this one chance, a laughably miniature blip on the colossus that is linear time, to experience all there is to feel before you return back to an eternity without perception. it's all worth it, because only in living a full-fledged life open to everything it has to offer does the experience of living turn out to be greater than the sum of its parts; it's in trying to beat the system (avoid pain) that we actually lose.
