Legit going to fuck up the whole franchise for me if we don’t see some serious apologies to Spider by Jake and Neytiri.

#avatar #avatar way of water #spider socorro #spider soccoro sully #neytiri was very bad in the way she condemned him from birth #and was willing to straight up kill him #but it’s almost worse the continuous way jake just didn’t care #even at the end #he never asked where spider was after he and lo’ak escaped the sinking ship #then is accepting him as his son #you can’t just do that when you didn’t care the whole film #at least Neytiri doesn’t dress it up #even neteyem hesitated to save him #he’s so good #he cares so much #kiri and lo'ak are the only ones who deserve this kid #i mean jake basically implies spider would give them up #like did you miss him growing up with your children?#he's loyal to you #jake never even suggests rescuing him #and thing is if the film ADDRESSED this it would bother me less #it's obvious why neytiri has issues with spider and i am sure that's set up to be an arc #but with jake i don't THINK i'm supposed to read he doesn't care #they could've even had a good reason to give jake for not trying to save him #like he just doesn't think he has the manpower to attempt rescue for one boy #but it's utterly unaddressed #which makes me think i'm not supposed to view it as bad

the boys' first commentary on keating's lessons being cameron and neil saying 'that was weird' / 'but different' is getting to me like the entire film is a narrative on the suffocation of heavy academia and how it prioritises certain subjects (medicine, law, business, engineering) while condemning creativity and passion and how institutions are promoting conformity and grades-over-wellbeing teaching methods more and more as you both move up the elitism scale and as time goes on, and how that was okay for these kids and like so many generations before them they were going to let it happen to them, but one teacher was different. one single teacher told them to seize the day and make their lives extraordinary and he made them look directly at the state of things, and for a little while it was beautiful but they're just kids; how could they ever change things? and sure enough it catches up to them and the institution wins because it always does and suddenly the suffocating thought of what neil is so sure his life is going to be is so daunting and terrifying that he cant even face it

#he's just like me fr just without the gun #like yeah the world is actually a harrowing monotonous place and my generation is the last one to play outside as children #and if you dont chase a certain career path or excel in certain subjects then you're deemed inherently lesser #and your success is measured by your bank account and there is no warmth #like damn this film realeased in the 80s and set in the 50s had no business capturing the terror of being young in our society so perfectly #the ONLY saving grace is the 'o captain my captain' scene at the end #it's proof that the beautiful passion-filled independent lives the boys dreamed about #dont just become food for worms and we dont just go right back to the beginning #there's hope at least even if half the time im too busy BAWLING MY FUCKING EYES OUT to even see the screen at that point #godddd girl watching this doing an 'academic subject' that you despise and on bad days think might be the thing to beat you #but you do it anyway bc you're stuck now and besides your parents kinda made you do it when all you ever wanted to do was write #but that cant happen bc writing isnt 'good' the way economics is 'good' and maybe #maybe all that'll happen is i'll lose and start a career in business and work an office job for two decades #in a world that's melting and owned by corporations that want to bleed me dry #maybe that's all there is #i need a fucking cigarette #dps

The short about the family glamping and getting attacked by dinosaurs is WAY Better than the actual feature film.

#jurassic park #jurassic world dominion #…dominion really should’ve just cut the owen&claire subplot entirely #and expanded the Corporate Horror of intentionally causing famine and near extinction with Biosyn monster locusts and crop seeds #then getting interrupted by DINOSAURS because Claire and Owen are fucking Idiots #biosyn and the millitaties still would’ve ‘saved’ the dinos from the volcanic erruption…but yeah #Our Darling New Protagonists didn’t have to inflict Invasive Megafauna!!#buuuut SINCE they did? there should’ve been Consoquences there!!#and the OG Three should’ve been allowed to tell those two off #instead of Buddy Buddy because It’s A Franchise #…also making the girl a clone to ‘justify’ her being there kinda ignores Why there are always Cute Kids in this franchise #the kids don’t need a Reason to be there. the kids are there for the protagonists + audience to get attatched to #and both give a reprieve from Monster Horror + yEAH. It is horrifying. children are in danger too because Adult Hubris/Kids being Nosy #(and THEN giving the kids their own agency as nerds or geeks or some specific athletic skillset)#…anyway. the Glamping Short did it SO much better #…and well. CGI Dinos that just often lack scale + NO subsonic weight and vocalizations…#they’re just. Not Scary #I feel bad saying that ‘cause I actually know someone who worked on the second film’s dinos!#(forgot to watch the credits for Dominion to know if she was on that crew as well)#but…the animatronics being something on-set for the actors to interact with #+ the folley artists getting to go HAM with the sound effects for This Is BIG #(instead of…stock tiger and horse and croc sounds)#…it makes a difference #my cats were Terrified and Comfort Pls with the 90s-00s films #because of those sounds #but the new ones? they slept through them #the new filma just Lack that animalistic instinctual Terror the OG Films did so well #(even when JP3’s early cgi was. really goofy.)

normally i hate audiobooks with a flying passion, they make me cringe even just thinking about listening to them. i think i’ve listened to two audiobooks all the way through and they were both already such cringey awful books (ready player one and two) that listening to wil wheaton read them was like a lateral move from reading them myself, in terms of cringe content. but dammit im gonna listen to when you finish saving the world today

I wish there were less sex scenes in stuff. Not because they're dirty or like somehow corrupting or whatever. But because they're boring and put me to sleep. There's only so many combinations that count. It's predictable. And boring.

#Yep #Also sex scenes in TV and Film are just set up in such a way they're likely to be exploitative #But mostly the boring thing #I would say half the time I stop a show book or whatever it's during a sex scene... again because boring #tv/movie is a little more interesting because I do figure drawing stuff now. And sometimes there's interesting shadows.#But yeah... legitimately have fallen asleep during many a sex scene #Like allosexuals just go do it if you want it #We don't need it in every piece of media ever #Also this is not some save the children bull #It's literally because they're boring
