hi. I just read your entire comic in one go and I’ve gotta say I am in love with it. as a trans guy with hair that looks so much like Steve’s and who loves werewolves, I had to physically restrain myself from squealing out loud upon realizing he was trans, because I am currently living in a room with five other people in a small community in rural Alaska and didn’t want to explain to them the joys of seeing yourself in a character and then realizing “oh shit they’re trans like me”. I hope you are doing well, and may the gods of creativity and carpal tunnel bless you with much fruit in your artistic endeavors.

Okay movies of substance off the top of my head (other than The Holdovers which we are obviously both being haunted by at poltergeist levels):

Stranger than Fiction (2006)

The Big Sick - weirdly like The Holdovers despite being a totally different setting and genre. The way in which it's grounded in reality means it is both deeply poignant and makes salient points about living while also making you laugh until you cry. Top recommendation probably.

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood - Idk if this hits as hard if you didn't grow up watching Mr. Rogers, but I would also say the article it's based on haunts me. I see the words projected against the back of my eyelids sometimes at night.

Paterson (2016) - I haven't watched this one in a while but it stuck to me in a major way

Chef (2014)

About Time - not personally that high impact on me, but it makes every man I've ever met who's seen it cry, which makes it worth mentioning.

Brooklyn (I barely remember it but I know that it would Haunt me if I watched it again; just realized it's currently on Max so I might do that)

(500) Days of Summer - hit or miss, but if it hits it hits!

Little Women (2019 and 1995) - I am a cliche!

Note that I am saying all of this as a person who is Most Haunted by Free Guy, Date Night, Paddington 1 & 2, and Mamma Mia 2. so like. keep that in mind, you know?

The Holdovers is In My House it is Banging The Cupboards I cannot escape it.

You are correct to be haunted by Paddington it haunts me too with it's Good Bones By Maggie Smith depiction of London a city I already love so dearly. Also About Time yeah I get it I do cry constantly through it.

I haven't seen any of these (except LW 2019) and they all sound wonderful! I read the book Brooklyn and it was mediocre so I avoided the movie but I'll have to give it a go. I'll absolutely give some of them a shot!

For what it's worth, I think there's still that deep wellspring of generosity and benevolence to you!! It's just more stored up now, something that you more carefully analyze and acknowledge, and there's a lot of beauty in the care you take in that! You sent this ages ago and I’ve just been saving it for when the back to school sadness hits (it has hit today, I go back this coming Monday) but I have read it many times and taken it right to my heart! Thank you, thank you. Truly!

As I’ve gotten older there’s been such a rubber-meets-the-road situation that’s happened to my optimism and cheerfulness and willingness to love a great deal. It’s absolutely been tested and stretched and to a very real extent broken and lost tbh. Like just. Yes, yes ideals etc. but the very real difficulties of living in an adult world —and trying to be a person who lives in reality not fantasy and so admits things like fatigue and exhaustion and the limits of life and personality as things that affect me—have really forced me to make harder choices so that in so many ways I am not the person that I was! And that includes the good things, I think.

So it’s very heartening to reflect that some of the core things, the things that matter, are still there. But just in a new (sometimes still shaky) adult form! Like. Maybe they did go underground to assume a new and hopefully less immature and flaky form.

I don’t know if this makes sense but in any case. Bless you. You’re the best! ♥️

Your Daily Queer spreadsheet

So an amazing and dedicated person (who would prefer to be anonymous to everyone else but goes by it/its pronouns), has basically put every Queer person listed on this blog into an excel spreadsheet and put it online for people to see (current total is over 7000). Not just that, it’s in process of putting a Wikipedia link as well. Oh and any deaths by AIDS or suicide etc are colour coded due to community importance.

Spreadsheet is sorted by: Name, alias, gender identity, sexuality, pronouns, ethnicity, have a disability, occupation etc.
