Passing Toads! - Jiraiya's Birthday Poem

Passing Toads:

I graduated from the Ninja Academy.

Put on Team that seemed it up of alchemy.

One a Genius, another with brute strength and chakra.

Meanwhile, for me, it seems I didn't possess anything...

Not even cakra...

It matter not, for a while, as I was little prevert among many things...

I swear, it is for research, stop burying the life in me!

But one day, the teacher called...

Told me that I needed to do better in the way of the ninja or else I fall.

So, that is what I did, as my rival was getting better...

The girl on my team, I wanted to please and get her.

One day, I was trying to do a summoning....

But ended up in the realm of toads with one forth coming.

I was offered a chance to run with the toads....

So, under their tutelage, I began to do what they told...

Through the months and years...

My strength increased, making me in line with my peers.

Before I left the toads, as the end of teaching grew near...

A prophecy was told to me that I would try to adhere.

Though the peace would not last....

I also taught a three-man team that I hope would amass.

One who I was hoping, due to his skill would be the child of prophecy that came to pass.

During the Second Great Ninja War, fame came fast.

The Title of Legandary Sannin was place on me, as well as my team.

From the great ninja from the Hidden Rain, he would casted.

Peace to the Ninja World was my dream...

The destuction I caused would gleam....

The ruins of the land and the hearing of people screams...

One day during this war, a chance to redeem.

Three kids approach...

After a brief convstation and hearing of their dangerous travels...

I decided to stay behind and be their coach....

After a while, I left them, knowing they can now defend themselves from any battle.

I went back home.

Hearing of all the great news and the ones found dead, all of it set in tome.

Later history would unfold....

But things never go as plan...

Third Great Ninja War was now at hand....

So I went, gain more fame...

That hardly anyone who met me would not know my name.

Jiraiya, the Legendary Sannin and the Great Toad Sage.

Just when i thought the end was near and be put to rest.

The Genius had gone mad, seeking immortality and all of justu without a care of the people engaged.

To worsen, the teams I had built, I heard they had gone into ruin.

This felt like I failed the trial and test.

However, I am not quitting, not yet...

I vow to bring back my friends, this I would atest....

While, I roam protecting the village from threats.

In the end, it seems I had nothing to show for expect failings and regrets.

My friend went rogue....

Could not get the love of my life....

I lost all of those who I natured and cared for...

Away from village and killed by Pain.

At least, I hope the final student that I passed my knowledge too.

Will bring peace to shinobi world and be the child of prophecy and go through.

R.I.P - I think I will call this final tale: The Tale of Jiraiya the Gallant.

I remember watching his death and feeling so awful. Happy Birthday, Jiraiya, may you R.I.P!

The afternoon in Konoha was calm, the sun bathing the streets in its golden light. A beautiful figure with white hair walked through the market, drawing the attention of a few curious onlookers. You were not someone easy to ignore: your elegant bearing, your long hair inherited from your father, Jiraiya, and the intense eyes that seemed to see through people—how could you go unnoticed when you were the only daughter of the legendary Sannin?

You had returned to Konoha after years of living far away. Your father's stories had always surrounded you, a man you almost never saw and didn't feel you ever truly got to know, yet whose shadow you constantly felt breathing down your neck. Since you were little, you had heard rumors, tales about his charisma and, of course, about his relationship with Naruto Uzumaki, the Seventh Hokage.

Naruto was everything you admired. His energy, his smile, and the way he spoke about the people he loved had captivated you since the day you met him. You knew you had also caused that effect on him; it was undeniable that both of you felt something for each other, and the only thing holding you back from advancing was the weight of your father.

Although Naruto didn't try to hide that he liked you, there was something unsettling about the way he looked at you. A mix of nostalgia and sadness that you couldn’t decipher.

One day, while you were training in a secluded clearing, Tsunade appeared to watch you. You had always respected her as your mentor, having known her since you were a child, but there was something more between you two, something you could never explain—Tsunade looked at you as though she saw a ghost, and you were starting to get tired of it.

"Is there something wrong with me?" you asked one afternoon, sitting next to the Sannin on the bleachers of the training field.

Tsunade sighed, placing a hand to her forehead. "Not with you. But sometimes… when I look at you, I can't help but remember someone else."

"My father?"

Tsunade shook her head. "Not exactly. It’s more complicated than that. It's like you’re the answer to questions I could never ask."

You shifted uncomfortably. You knew something had happened between them that was never resolved. Despite it all, you had loved your father, that man who, though you barely remembered, used to take you to the lake when he visited and shower you with gifts, the one who taught you your first summoning. Of course, you had loved him, and his death had brought you great pain. But now, you no longer wanted to be trapped in his shadow, chasing and never reaching a ghost.

That conversation left you unsettled. You didn’t have time to dig deeper because Naruto invited you to join his team for an important mission. It was your chance to prove that you were not just Jiraiya's daughter, but someone capable of forging your own ninja path.

However, while working together, that discomfort resurfaced. Naruto smiled at you and treated you with his usual warmth, but there were moments when he would just stare at you, almost lost in his thoughts.

"Naruto-sama," you said one night while camping, "Is there something you want to tell me? Because I feel like you always look at me as if you’re expecting something from me."

He seemed surprised by the question but didn't deny anything. "It’s complicated, Y/n. Sometimes, I feel like… I already knew you before you got here. Like the universe is showing me something I forgot."

The conversation lingered between you two, and you couldn’t help but wonder if he truly felt a real connection with you or if it was all related to his father. Was she a reflection of Jiraiya? Or was there something more?

Tsunade sought you out after the mission. "Your father had a deep love for many things, Y/n. But one of the few things he regretted was not being here to see how Naruto fulfilled his dreams, and his greatest regret was not having spent enough time with you. And now, every time I see you with Naruto, I can’t help but think… is this what Jiraiya would have wanted? That his daughter found something special in the boy he always admired?"

You understood then. It wasn’t just your physical resemblance to Jiraiya that left everyone confused. It was the way you connected with Naruto, as if you were destined to meet.

One day, while training together, you decided to speak up. "Naruto, I’m not my father. I’m not an echo of him. I am me. And if I stay here, close to you, it’s not because I feel obligated by what you two shared, it’s not because I want to hear about how he was, because I didn’t know him as well as you did… If I stay here, it’s because I want to be here. With you."

Naruto looked at you, first surprised, then slowly, a smile began to form on his face. "I know. And I’m grateful for that. I really like you, not because you’re his daughter… I like everything about you, and what you represent. I admire you so much."

For the first time, you felt like you didn’t have to prove anything, nor fill the void for someone else. You were forging something new, something that was all your own.

And Tsunade, watching you both from afar, felt that the déjà vu in which she saw herself and Jiraiya reflected in Naruto and you finally made sense. The past, unfortunately, could not be changed, but the present was an opportunity to heal.

Ep 91:

-I can’t believe Tsunade is making a bet to win a 12 year old’s money

-the height difference between Jiraiya and Tsunade in the flashback is crazy

-welp I understand why Tsunade doesn’t like blood now

-Tsunade and Jiraiya have an interesting dynamic so far

-also at this point I know a little bit about Orochimaru’s and Tsunade’s pasts, but I realized that I still know virtually nothing about Jiraiya’s

Ep 92:

-can Kabuto PLEASE get an outfit change now that he’s not being a spy anymore (I just really hate his outfit lol)

-I really hope Sakura gets a cool technique to match Naruto’s rasengan and Sasuke’s chidori

-I can’t believe Tsunade actually DRUGGED Jiraiya

-Orochimaru sent Kabuto to take out Shizune but like… since his arms are useless, how does he expect to take on Tsunade if she tries to fight him????

-why would Tsunade ever expect Orochimaru to keep a promise to leave Konoha alone? There’s literally no way he would do that

-oh nevermind I guess Tsunade was gonna trick Orochimaru or something

-this is so off topic but Orochimaru’s hair kinda slays

Ep 93:

-Tsunade’s voice actor is popping off in this episode. She really sounds broken and torn up about how much she wants to see her loved ones again

-Naruto is once again having a profound positive effect on every character he meets

-I need Tsunade to kick Kabuto’s ass so bad. Fuck him up for me queen

-I like that Tsunade’s fighting style revolves around punching shit. I appreciate that even though she’s technically a medic, she’s also a physical fighter

-I said this back during the Naruto vs Kiba fight but if food pills are so helpful why aren’t people using them all the time

-Tsunade punching Kabuto in the face was satisfying as shit

-I don’t like that Kabuto was actually able to “beat” Tsunade. I know he took the food pill but WHY is he that powerful? He’s like someone’s edgy overpowered OC and my hate for his annoying ass grows with every episode he’s in

Ep 94:

-Orochimaru biting Jiraiya’s neck was uh… interesting🤨

-Kabuto needs to shut the fuck upppppppp. I want him dead so bad

-Naruto hitting Kabuto with a rasengan right to the chest was one of the most satisfying moments in the show so far

-(can you tell how much I fucking despise Kabuto)

Ep 95:

-see Sasuke’s already had multiple near-death experiences so it was about time for Naruto to have one of his own

-Orochimaru summoning a snake sword out of his fucking MOUTH was so weird ngl

-also the way the sword stuck out of his mouth like a tongue looked kinda stupid in a lot of shots

-lmao are we gonna get a sannin Kaiju battle

Ep 96:

-Tsunade saying “give my regards to hell” before punching the shit out of Orochimaru was metal as fuck

-also Tsunade wrangling Orochimaru by his tongue was so satisfying

-Orochimaru’s theme continues to go hard

-Naruto is such a hater to Tsunade lol

-Tsunade giving Naruto the forehead kiss was a great callback to her past

Ep 97:

-I do like Jiraiya and Tsunade’s dynamic a lot. Jiraiya has actually been pretty tolerable this arc

-I love Naruto nicknaming Tsunade “Grandma Tsunade”

-I feel bad for Shizune, her job is definitely kinda thankless

-Ngl Naruto pretending to be kidnapped to help make Tsunade pay off her debts is a hilarious plot point

-I love that Naruto sympathizes with the people who need Tsunade to pay the debt she owes, he really has a good heart

Ep 98:

-I’m just gonna pretend the scene with Konohamaru and Tsunade’s boobs didn’t happen

-ah I was so happy to see the other Konoha kids again

-Shikamaru really needs to have a Sokka arc and unlearn his sexism

-jesus Sasuke looks really traumatized. I’m worried about him

-I literally started yelling “MY CHILD” when Lee came on screen (also I love how antsy Gai was to get Lee healed)

-I was not expecting so much Lee angst in this episode. My poor boy:(

Ep 99:

-so like who’s gonna look after Konohamaru now that Sarutobi is dead? I’ve been wondering about what the village does about all its orphans for a while actually. Are they all just living in random apartments like Naruto?

-I really like Sakura and Lee’s relationship. It’s very wholesome

-Tsunade’s first act as Hokage should be making everyone go to therapy

-Tsunade busting through Konohamaru’s traps with the most deadpan look on her face was kinda iconic ngl

Ep 100:

-seeing Lee look so depressed is SO heartbreaking. My poor babyyyyyy

-god I love Gai’s dub voice so much. It’s literally perfect for him

-again, how did Lee pass the academy exam and become a genin???

-I appreciate having these little interludes about characters like Lee and Konohamaru, it helps add to the sense that there’s more to Konoha than just Naruto

-NO LEE IS CRYINGGGGGG

-the flashback of Lee and Gai talking about self-imposed rules is a good interaction but also it looks so fucking stupid because they’re walking on their hands during it

Kakashi ex girlfriend and comrade was someone he never could keep his mind off. Once he started to feel normal a little girl with white hair shows up, being called the daughter of his ex girlfriend. He was left with a note to raise her.

Kakashi didn’t know what to expect when he was called to the Hokage office. He assumed it was just another mission, so he put his uniform on, concealing his face underneath his mask, and made his way undetected.

He hadnt expected to be greeted by the Hokage alongside one of the legendary Sannin. The other white-haired man had been out of the village for a while, claiming to have research to do. Kakashi was a bit surprised to see him there.

He was even more surprised when they settled down and Jiraiya brought out a small blue-haired girl. She looked around seven… almost the same number of year Jiraiya had been gone for. Kakashi assumed it was the older man’s daughter and he would be assigned to guard her.

But what he was told was much worse.

Kakashi had never sought out love. He had actively avoided it, his childhood traumas leaving him to scarred to get close to anyone. He had seen others find love during times of war only to be left with hurt and alone. Kakashi tried to stay away from it as long as possible.

Yet he couldn’t help it when a beautiful girl with the kindest soul make her way into his heart, making him year for something he have vowed to never have, never want. Every time she stepped into the room, he couldn’t help but let his mind wonder to the terrifying place of his imagination, the future. Imagining their future together.

Kiyomi Tatsuyama. That was her name. The girl with all the time in the word, who used it all to pester him. She would always bother him during his morning walks, beg to spar with him only to go home with bruises, make him lunches when she assumed he was to busy to make his own, and bring him extra scarves during winter.

It annoyed him. She always asked what he was doing, the thing he liked, his favorite foods, his hobbies, and what kind of Shinobi he was.

He tried hard to put a distance between them, but mo matter what he did, she found a way to get to him. He hate it.

He hated how he would walk by her house slower when he noticed her rushing to do her hair before joining him. He hated how he would fall into an easy cycle of teasing and playful banter during their spars.

He hated how he would purposely complain to his comrades about how hungry he was when she was around so he could try the new food she made, despite it being overcooked. He hated how he’d leave his coat and scarf at home so she would nag and feel bad for him.

He hated the way her finger tips left a warm trail against his neck when she wrapped her scarf around him, the small scowl on her when she scolded him, the small dimple that appeared when she caught him staring blissfully, asking if he was listening, and how she would blush when she tried to scold him.

He hated the fact that he fell in love with her. And he hated it when she left. Leaving him behind with just a bite, telling him he would be in her heart forever before disappearing from his life forever.

His comrades would ask about her once they noticed the “fly” was no longer hanging around him, wondering if she had finally gotten the clue and stopped bothering him. He hated how heart broke he felt.

He hated how he could still hear the small cracks in his heart grow even after all these years as he read a note she had left him again. Hearing her soft voice saying he words he read:

“I always liked the cold. I liked the cute outfits I got to wear. The excuses it gave me to get close to you. I liked how warm I felt without feeling sweaty. I always felt that way around you. I felt nice and warm. Sorry if I bothered you, Kakashi. I couldn’t help who I fell in love with and how I handled it. I’m also sorry for what I’m about to do you. I don’t trust anyone the way I trust you. I know you’ll take care of her. People aren’t so kind to those who are different, of the unknown. She’s a good kid. She won’t bother you much. She likes to speak a lot but if you ask her to be quiet she won’t talk. She loves winters as much as I do and she likes to watch the stars shine. She doesn’t know how to make friends and she likes to eat a bunch of Dorayaki. Please take care of Kasumi for me…

I want you to know….I do remember that night.. Thank you.”

Kakashi couldn’t help the ache in his chest when he finished reading the letter. The way he crumpled the paper. The way he stared at the girl who stood behind Jiraiya, looking around curiously. The way the older men looked at him with hidden pitty behind their eyes.

He felt another stab at the heart.

“Kakashi, you understand you must take care of this girl? This child has been entrusted to your care. If you refuse her, she will be handed off to her grandfather. Although the isn’t reckless, he is in no condition to take care of a child. He can barely walk himself.” Hiruzen explained, his voice steady but his eyes filled with unspoken concern. Kakashi could feel the weight of his options being laid in front of him.

Jiraiya glance at him. His usual carefree deamnored replaced with a rare seriousness.

“She posses a Sharigan. It was placed in her. She can’t control it, and the longer it remains unstable, the more dangerous it becomes: not only that but…” Jiraiya paused, his face softening as he looked at the small girl who clung to his sleeve, her eyes landing on his, her big innocent eyes looking at him.

“Kasumi is daughter or Kenshiro Kaguyuki. Which means her anatomy is different than ours. Where we are warm blooded, Kasumi is not. She was born in the cold…. Kasumi is also mute.” Jiraya continued, his voice betraying a hint of sorrow. Kakashi’s eyes widened as he looked at the girl who tilted her head at him before hiding her small body behind the larger man.

“She wasn’t born with it. She developed it after going through a traumatic experience. It’s called Selective Mutism. Since she was three, she hasn’t spoke to anyone aside from her mother siblings,” Jiraya explained, his tone somber.

Kakashi felt his blood run cold. Hearing Kiyomi had moved on after all those years while he was stuck yearning for her, made him feel glad she found someone else but he couldn’t help the jealously that ran through his veins. Hearing she had children with another man made him feel sick.

“How many?” Kakashi asked, his voice barely above a whisper. Hiruzen stared at him, wondering if that had mattered in this moment.

“Three. This is her only daughter. The man she was married to had threatened to hurt her father if she didn’t come with him. He had four wives with the purpose of breeding strong children from different clans,” Jiraya explained, glancing down at the small girl who plugged her ears to not hear.

“… He committed suicide taking his three other kids with him… we’re still looking for his wives.”

Kakashi felt his jaw clench at the thought. His Kiyomi had spent years with a man who used her for her clan jutsu’s. She had left, and he hadn’t even thought about trying to find her. He had left her to be use by an evil man. Who knows what kind of horrors she and her daughter had to endure.

Kakashi zoned out for the rest of the conversation, hearing Jiraiya talk but unable to make out the words. He couldn’t help but feel like he had failed again, like it was his fault. He should’ve fought for her, he should have chased her. He should have asked her father. He should’ve went after her. Regret filled his body.

He finally tuned back in when he saw Jiraya turn to look down at Kasumi. His brows furrowed as he saw the Sannin make a series of hand signals.

It a took a moment for Kakashi to recognize it. It wasn’t a jutsu he had seen or copied. It was sign language. The girl— Kasumi— was muted she wouldn’t speak to anyone, which meant Jiraiya must’ve learned the easiest way to communicate with her.

Kakashi watched his eye locked with Kasumi. He assumed he was the topic of their conversation. He tried to give her a warm smile, but ended up looking awkward and forced under his mask.

She removed her fingers from her ears, frowning as she looked back up at Jiraiya and signed, ‘Why can’t you take care of me? I don’t want to stay here.’

Jiraiya smiled at the girl, reaching down to pat her head. She blinked at every sudden movement, her eyes wide and wary.

“Donr worry! You’ll be in good hands! Besides, Susu, I was meant to deliver you to who your mother asked. We just got side tracked by— my research,” he said, not signing this time, glancing over at Kakashi. Kasumi nodded sadly.

Kakshi watched as Hiruzen and Jiraiya spoke in a hushed tones, the two of them exchanging glances filled with concern. Meanwhile, Kasumi tugged on Jiraiya’s seeking his attention. Kakashi’s eyes were drawn to her.

Her hair was short, barely longer than her jaw, with uneven lengths and layered pieces sticking out, even her bangs where cut oddly, with chuckle pieces in between her brows, showing off her deep blue eyes. The same blue eyes he once knew, once woke up to, the some ones he had complimented, the ones he saw filled with love. Her hair seemed poorly dyed, large chunks of the bald showing white patches, and strands underneath the blue revealing a mixture of white and blue.

Kakashi watched as Kasumi reached up, offering Jiraiya a coin. The man grinned, giving her a small frog toy before making his leave.

Hiruzen looked at the girl, his eyes softening as she reminded him of the young girl. “This is Kakashi Hatake. You’ll be staying with him from now on,” he told her gently.

Kasumi stared at Kakashi with a blank expression.

I have this fic idea in the works - where basically when Sas defects Konoha, Sakura & Naruto come with him, essentially they have a fight which ends in Sas breaking down that he doesn't wanna lose more people, and Sakura & Naruto convincing him that they should all stick together, they're each others family

Finally they convince him, part of their argument though is not to go to Orochi, and instead go elsewhere - Sakura suggests Tsunade, cuz obvs she's gnna know about the legend of the Sannin

An that leads to Tsuna meeting these three kids who run away and join her on her travels, totally becomes that meme of "I've only had Team 7 for a day, but if anything happened to them, I'd kill everyone & then myself" so she's know like a mum of 3 babies, and one teen (Shizune, who's now Team sevens big sib)

Shizune trains Sasuke in poisons & the lil bit of Genjutsu she knows (Making that up but don’t care) Tsuna teaching Sakura & Naruto healing & all three of them Taijutsu

They may run off to Uzu, cuz of Naruto & Tsuna having heritage there - may even make Sakura part Uzumaki or decended from a merchant clan there cuz I can!

Kashi tracks them down once, realises that the kids are right & defects with them – gets a smack up the head by Tsuna for bein a lil sexist & then realises his errors n gets better

Shizune & Kashi are gnna fight like sibs and be besties - I’m not elaborating

May incorporate angst or may just make it happy lil family times idk yet

This is inspired by a fic that's kinda similar, but it's Rin & Kashi that run off to find Tsuna and ask for help, so my idea is a tad different - but your Sannin swaps are just very very inspiring to me also, so wanted to let you know of my idea, and kinda get your opinion if you'd like to offer one of course!

I've already started writing it, but it's the motivation which has left me for right now ahah

Do it!!! I can almost picture them discussing their options in that very team 7 manner, pure chaos, lot's of yelling and 'shut up Naruto!'s, except is something as serious as defecting from Kohona and finding a new legendary master.

Would love to know how they'd find their way back to Uzushio! And Kakashi going after his kids! And him and Shizune bonding! AND big sis Shizune 😖✨️

Also to see what other versions of single sannin trained team 7 would end up like 👀

- Jiraorotsuna..sannin angst is so good aufhghghfhf. I swear they all loved each other.

- ShiItaIzu….odd i know😭i justify it bc itaizu is canon, and shisui is related to kagami uchiha, who isnt related to itachi. genuinely the ethics in naruto is so odd… but anyways they both love itachi.

★ First off, I just wanna say he thinks you're scary 😭

★ You don't play any games if/when you catch him spying on women.

★ Whenever Tsunade's too tired to whoop his ass, you'll do it for her!!

★ Even if you get onto him about being a perv .. you're his sister so it makes sense you pick up some of those perverted attributes. you hide it very well though because you know very well that jiraiya would not let you live it down 😭

★ You two are pretty distant ngl. But whenever y'all randomly see each-other while walking by you point at him (like that spiderman meme 💀)

★ You met Naruto and sometimes Jiraiya gets a little jelly whenever you treat Naruto like a little brother (and u can't help it, he's too cute)

★ But nah you hit him on the head whenever he pouts like a baby and then give him a lil side–hug

★ YOU TWO CAN'T TAKE ANYTHING SERIOUSLY. jiraiya will say something that sounds oddly sexual and then you two will have the most intense staring contest then proceed to laugh like idiots 😭 especially in tsunade's office, she'll just wait until yall are done with one of those red marks on her head

★ Dinner is so fun. You feel guilty for stealing Naruto's frog wallet but you and jiraiya get drinks or something. You don't even discuss the Akatsuki's whereabouts most of the time, just random stuff.

★ When Naruto's asleep after training you two take a quick cloud–watching break and laugh whenever one looks like a butt or something lmao

★ He's not too protective of you since you can damn well take care of yourself but if someone insults you while you're away he'll slap them for sure.

★ He likes to annoy you.

★ "[name].." he pokes your cheek, examining your peaceful sleeping face to see if it would stir. His favorite passtime is waking you up from your slumber while you two are together. His eyes hold a childish glint in them as your eyebrows subconsciously furrow and your hands, that lay beside you, splay out a little more.

★ He does the same action once again, this time his finger pushing more into your flesh. He gasps a little and retracts his hand as your eyes snap wide open right after as if anticipating for him to poke you again. He's aware of how grouchy you are whenever you're woken up, so he takes a step back and raises his hands in front of himself as if telling you to wait. He definitely wasn't expecting for you to actually wake up. "Hello there, dear sister."

★ You show him no mercy as your eye twiches, and like a monkey reaching for a banana, you jump at him and knock him to the floor, giving the hardest punches you could muster. Your eyes are as red as a demon's and that's not because of your tiredness. "DON'T! WAKE! ME! UP!"

★ yeah my creativity goes wild whenever i imagine things.

★ But anyways, he loves embarrassing you. Like giving you piggy–back rides in public. You hate how Naruto finds it amusing. You growl (which sounds pathetic considering that you're on your brother's back) whenever he laughs.

★ Yeah, you embarrass Jiraiya too. You call him things like Ji–chan or Froggy–boy. Its funny whenever he crosses his arms like a kid and tells you to stop it.

★ He thinks you're cool. You've been through so much with him, from fighting enemies to beating his ass for spying on women, he couldn't ask for a better sister. (He'd never say this out loud.) And that's why he swears on his life that he'd always be there for you until the day he dies :(

★ 8/10 brother. Goofy and annoying but still cool.
