Is it true that there are rumors against the Uchiha? Because people talk about them as if they're the absolute truth, and I'm like, "When was this said?" Because most people talk about how great the Uchiha are and that they're a prestigious clan. In Naruto, Sasuke was almost, so to speak, a celebrity for being the Last Uchiha, and Orochimaru was obsessed with the Sharingan. But come Shippuden, and the Uchiha, unless Sasuke is not present, are barely mentioned; they're practically an old story.

I think people say that because of the worst person's comment when referring to the Uchiha, Tobirama ahem ahem ahem, talks about a rumor that hatred fuels their eyes, and technically he's wrong, but at the same time it's not, it's emotions that fuel their eyes, but that could have been an observation he made on the battlefield, it wouldn't be strange, also the stronger the emotion, the stronger their eyes become, we've seen it with Sasuke and some Uchiha and the Mangekyou is the greatest demonstration.

Although it may be that people don't speak ill of the Uchiha because well, they're dead and for some reason people don't like to speak ill of people when they die, it was also a tragic event. Afterwards, I don't remember any other event apart from people clinging with all their body to the fact that there were rumors against the Uchiha or I don't remember well.

mm... yes and no? as i've said, shippuden and classic are effectively two separate stories in terms of stuff like themes. shippuden is based on classic, but it's overall remarkably different for a number of reasons.

as mentioned in a relatively recent meta post i did somewhere, a huge flaw in kishimoto's story of the uchiha's downfall is how he ultimately created a world in which no one has any actual attachment to anyone who died in the massacre except for sasuke (and in theory itachi but.... honestly not really. especially since by virtue of his role in the story he mostly doesn't get to actually show that he cared about the people he killed regardless of how he actually felt about them)

it's honestly almost brilliant how kishimoto managed to avoid having just about everyone sans sasuke not have actually lost anything in the massacre bc everyone who had a connection to an dead uchiha either had that connection to an uchiha who died outside of the massacre (kakashi, shisui somehow) or they themselves died before it even happened (kushina, shisui again)

seriously, let's look at who the canonical uchiha (who died in the massacre) have real connections to outside of the uchiha clan:

fugaku - hiruzen (named his second son after hiruzen's father; to my knowledge we don't ever see them interact but presumably they did at least somewhat but tbh this is still basically a nobody answer too)

inabi - nobody

izumi - nobody

mikoto - kushina (her good friend; died before the massacre), biwako (named her second son after biwako's father-in-law in the hopes that he would grow up to be a strong, splendid shinobi; died before the massacre)

tekka - nobody

teyaki - nobody

uruchi - nobody

yakumi (presumably; i think we don't know when he died) - nobody

yashiro - nobody

these are the only uchiha we ever meet who died in the massacre, and the only people have any connections outside the clan are sasuke's parents (really just sasuke's mom), which means the number of people who have any interest as to how the oppression of the uchiha clan actually impacted the uchiha clan is basically just sasuke. and sasuke was like eight.

it should also be noted that at least three of these people (four if you count fugaku) were treated as antagonists to itachi's backstory which is. definitely A Choice. teyaki and uruchi are just the senbei shop people (who sasuke seems to be on good terms with but we see very little of them outside of like one panel), izumi is just itachi's childhood love interest, yakumi might not have died in the massacre at all, and inabi, tekka, and yashiro are mainly just those big meanies who think itachi should be arrested for presumably murdering his best friend (how dare they.), that really just leaves us with fugaku and mikoto feeling like the only actual casualties of the massacre.

this is why the narrative tends to just forget about the uchiha clan part altogether unless sasuke is actually there to force it to remember, but irl it also left the fanbase with an admittedly understandable that all sasuke really lost was his parents like everyone else in the series. so outside of when sasuke actually says "hey it's Uchiha Time we're talking about my family now" the narrative never really has a reason (or interest) in actually discussing the uchiha clan or what happened to them. we're left with a pretty big disinterest in the uchiha massacre both in and out of story, with the only real relevance it ever seems to have being whether or not you like/care about sasuke

this is imo one of the biggest weaknesses in the story. it's way too major and impactful an event to mean so little to almost everyone in the entire series

oh and the other rumor i can remember was that the uchiha clan was suspected of having caused the kyuubi attack but i don't think we ever even see anyone say that, we're just told it's being said.

I've said it before but I believe Dan definitely saw how unhinged Tsunade is and loved her even more for it. She refused to let up on a bet even though it was a surefire loss? Finds her determination admirable. She breaks an arm during training but keeps going because she can heal later? Scary, but also very cool. Interesting to think that despite all of the Sannin's vices, we never once see any of them smoking, even though their teacher smoked like a chimney. Makes me think they got so sick of the smoke they vowed never to copy him. They found different ways to ruin their bodies, thank you very much
