âThe Girl Who Loves Smilesâ is an evocative and provocative chapter, which âshowsâ before âtells.â
I think most of the reactions I saw about the chapter reflected that.
From the first moment, the chapter was evoking memories of the plot and the characters in us and with great ease. We all wanted it to be about Ochako, because the title alluded to her and consequently, also to Toga, and it was (but not in the way i'd expected).
On a personal level, I was hoping for a more direct and concrete resolution on them. I wanted to know if Toga is still alive or not. Find out if Ochako knows anything about her current state and how she is facing the end of her own battle.
Would the chapter present a final confrontation between the two?
Looking back, I think expectations played tricks on me again, but that's because, as a human being, I look for patterns everywhere. The pace of resolution of the previous two chapters had been just what I expected from this last one: a direct and concrete resolution, both for Todoroki facing Touya with his family, and for Izuku facing Spinner.
The change of narrative pace in this chapter, I think, affected many of us quite drastically and I have the feeling that this abrupt and unexpected change was put there with the intention of provoking us, but not in the sense of making us anxious (for the idea that there is not enough time to tie up all the loose ends), nor addressing the typical revenge speech of those who like a certain ship (we all know which one).
I think it was intended to evoke Ochako's motivation as a hero and provoke a real emotional connection with her in her process to endure that weight (at this particular moment).
The first time the chapter shows us Ochako, she is literally and figuratively silent (her mouth is covered), as they talk about Shoto, Kacchan, and Izuku's central role in the war. Of course, she was also a part of it, so why isn't she also included for her merits? And so, the first hint that someone is feeling pain appears in the form of an sfx, which is evocative of his own battle with Toga. The way of showing this, in white, invites us to remember what she did almost by force (since there are no flash backs), rather than focusing on the present plot.
Then she disappears from the scene for a moment and what are we supposed to do with these seemingly inconsequential pages? While I was glad to see how things improved on a social level; how Kacchan, Edgeshot, and the rest were inching forward, I was still bothered by why now?, when there's a bigger part about Ochako to address? Then Ochako returns to being the focal point and her first words are in response to what a civilian said, reaffirming what we already know: that everything is going better. However, just as she appears falsely cheerful, we as readers are forced to place our attention on these distractions instead of the pain (like Ochako did to).
It's frustrating and it's painful that everything seems to move so fast but in slow motion at the same time, that everything feels so superficial and mundane, when there is something more important that should be happening under the surface. And why does everyone seem so optimistic so quickly? Where is the feeling of the aftermath of something so terrible? The guilt? The trauma? The emotional resolution?
The thing is, we've been provoked to feel like Ochako all along. The narrative, so far, shows us what Ochako wants to see, the day-to-day life that Ochako struggles to experience, because it's what she supposes she should do and feel about it no matter what (and us with her).
And then, Tsuyu comes to tell us other thing that we were already shown before: Ochako is not responding, but not only to the most obvious thing, the text message, but to her surroundings and not to her friends either.
Now is when the âtellingâ becomes the center of everything: Ochako directly explains to us why she was not included in the group of heroes, her companions, who gained admirers (there were no recordings). She tells us, like an echo while reaffirming it to herself, that everything is improving, that the city looks like before, that it is time to be optimistic and positive because the war is over. She reminds us that he has been hiding his own pain because she loves seeing people smile, since that is a sign that they are happy moving forward.
However, even though she is saying it, she does not remember any smile of her classmates in particular (the words are on a black background) and instead, the only smile she remembers is Toga's, but whose image is tinged with the pain of his battle scar (which at the same time represents special, intimate connection with her).
In a few pages, all the evocation and provocation increase in a crescendo until reaching the point of no return. Ochako can no longer suppress the truth and neither can we: that the one smile she apparently couldn't save weighs more on her than all the other smiles she can see day after day.
It is a very intimate chapter, which seeks to incite a feeling of empathy and vulnerability with the character.
I don't know about you, but I felt very vulnerable too while watching her break down.
With this slow and almost artificial, forced rhythm, I felt that she invited me to live this repressed pain with her and to hope that, somehow, there is a kinder way out that does justice to everything she is having to endure.
And yeah, i hope the next chapter goes well.
#idk if this is coherent#anyway#izuku is a good friend so of course he noticed that something happened to her#i liked this chapter#no matter what it means for deku and bakudeku later#this is me keeping my expectations in balance#everything will be fine#mha 428#uraraka ochako#togachako#ochako#toga himiko#bakudeku#midoriya izuku

Usopp and Conquerorâs Haki | part 3 (TL;DR)
previously
Resilience
Usopp may have hit rock bottom at one point, but he managed to bounce back from that as well. He survived Boin Archipelago, a man-eating island, and although in the Syrup Village arc he failed to convince the villagers that Kuro was a fake he still had the resolve to protect the villagers (the same people who wanted to attack him).
Heck, when the Franky family jumped/beat him up TWO times, he still came back and fought after the first time, and still tried getting up and fight.
When Sugar and Trebol got him the first time, he still had the resolve to help Luffy so Sugar wouldnât turn Luffy into a toy (and a lot of people were after Usopp because Doflamingo placed such a hefty bounty on his head), so it was definitely risky.
Intuition
Easy. When he fought Perona, and defeated Sugar. He knew where to get âem. He figured it out. From Peronaâs astral projections (and apparent fear of cockroaches) and Sugarâs fear of his face, he knocked them both out. Heck, Intuition was the facet of him unlocking Observation haki.
Then thereâs the whole âhis lies always come trueâ thing. That takes some great intuition. He was able to get the gist that someone was after Sanji based on Sanjiâs bounty (leading up to the WCI events). And then thereâs when he told everyone during the Buster Call at Enies Lobby to get on the Going Merry (and Zoro was against it and it seemed so absurd to get on a broken ship), and the Going Merry saved the crew. Because if he hadnât kept her (and fought Luffy), she wouldâve never come to save them (and he took the utmost care of the Going Merry).
Visionary
Heck, this was from the jump. Even back in Syrup Village (I honestly think thatâs what encouraged the Romance Dawn Trio to recruit him). He had that trio of little boys following him around and he always expressed wanting to become a brave warrior of the sea like his father and a true pirate. Again, this is where he becomes a good storyteller and talks things into existence. From big fish poop (Little Garden) that's the size of an island to a beautiful swordswoman with meat (Rebecca back in Dressrosa), his lies come true.
Even back in Little Garden, he was inspired by the giants and wanted to furthermore become/resemble their image of what being a brave warrior was all about.
Then back in Onigashima, when those swordsman/samuari were wanting to surrender to their fate and not keep fighting. But Usopp was disgusted by that, and he gave a speech that further brought home his vision; his dream.
This even goes back to Boin, when he opted to lose weight and have Heraclesâ train him because he wanted to become The King of Shooters.
Must be born with it
So, this just kinda makes me more speculative than anything. Some even say this trait is somewhat disputable. This is one thing on the list overall that brings me to a halt. In all fairness we donât know how far Yasoppâs haki abilities go (he could quite possibly 5% of a chance have conquerorsâŠbut Iâm not betting onâŠit?). AND we donât know much about Usoppâs lineage that goes way beyond his dad. But this is kind of something you have to justify with or without research or evidence.
Moving On...
Yes, yes. Oda is quoted saying that Usopp will always be the âweakestâ crew memberâŠso? Iâm not looking for Usopp to be this overpowered nut, and honestly, I love him the way he is. No doubt about it. But Conquerorâs Haki would be a cool add-on narratively and symbolically. Since Iâm always comparing Usopp to King David (David and Goliath), Iâm pretty sure David would have had conquerorâs haki; he was known as the warrior king too!
Conclusion
Either way, itâs just a funny thing to entertain. Conquerorâs Haki and Usopp in the same sentence didnât feel right at first, but now itâs starting to.
I remember somewhere (it was Worstgen), where this person was discussing Usopp fighting Luffy in order to keep (or to obtain) the Going Merry, and they said if thatâs not big d*ck energy then they donât know what is. It literally made me LOL âcause that personâs perception of Conquerorâs Haki was soooo simple and crude. But Iâm not judginâ. Anywho, I donât think my words are an entirely accurate take on what Conqueror's Haki EXACTLY is, but itâs what Iâve commonly come across, and is still quite a mystery to the OP fandom and the world itself.
Off Subject or P.S.
A little off subject, but if we want to give a bit more perspective, some people even believe that the âArlong Boysâ will get conquerors haki (which includes Luffy, Zoro, Usopp, and Sanji).
Then fans even go off of the basis of Zoro, Sanji, and Usopp being the only ones whoâve fought their captain (Whiskey Peak, Water 7, and Whole Cake Island), AND even harming a celestial dragon (Sanji kicked the crap out of one, Zoro threatened one and was even willing to k!ll them, and Usopp accidentally fell on top of one who was about to hurt some innocent people AND it was the one with the most superiority in that vicinity).
Ah, this makes me so giddy just thinking about it. But seriously, Usopp getting Conquerorâs Haki would work well narratively. It would give the message of how even those seen as weak can truly be a conqueror.
A good evolution to Usoppâs growth.
A good ending point.
So, thank you for your time. This concludes my Ted Talks.

So about Blue Spirit and Firelord Zuko, what if future conspiracy theorists found some correlation that the two are often found together but not exactly at the same time and then one account saw the Blue Spirit entering Firelord Zuko's room. Historians either believe secret bodyguard or spirit guardian. Conspiracy theorists believe they're lovers. None believe they're the same person until the new avatar made a fact check with Aang
Aang wouldn't set the record straight, he'd just laugh for 5 minutes straight and then fuck off before giving them an answer

I've seen the Inception fandom floating around for over 10 years now so I thought I knew what the movie was about. I decided to watch it yesterday and,, what the fuck
You're telling me Arthur and Eames aren't even the MAIN CHARACTERS? I had no idea Leonardo DiCaprio was in this movie, let alone the goddamn protagonist. I thought it was a full two hours of Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Tom Hardy staring soulfully into each other's eyes as they tried to figure out what was and was not real, but these motherfuckers barely have five minutes of screen-time together in the whole film?? AO3 EXPLAIN?

No one knows that Jason is an ex Robin so everyone comes to the very logical conclusion that the Red Hood is Batman's rebellious blood son that ran away from home to pursue a life of crime and they're not even fucking wrong

My #1 post of 2022
I want to see characters being taken care of in an explicit and worshipful way. Home-cooked meals. Hair brushed and braided by gentle hands. Little gifts just because.
I want to read about characters who are not used to kindness being bombarded by acts of service. This trope works romantically and platonically. Give me found family and acts of service - all the ways a character is wrapped up in wordless, explicit care after years of cruelty and having no idea how to handle. I need it.

Watching the Rise of the Titans movie and I'll be documenting all of my thoughts/reactions here. [Spoiler Warning]
So instead of reblogging every new update, I'm just going to have this post up on my phone as I watch and type my reactions in a bullet list format.
Nari's human disguise is so cute. As someone who does have a cottagecore aesthetic, I want to cosplay her so bad
Are Skrael and/or Belroc non-binary coded? Regardless, I'm also obsessed and I want to fuck Skrael and be Belroc.
STEVE CARING ABOUT JIM BEING HURT YESSSS!!! My god his redemption has probably been one of the greatest there is because he doesn't just suddenly go from being a bully to a completely good person. You can see the gradual shift in learning better throughout the shows which is awesome.
IN NEW YOOOOOOORRRRRRRK!!!!!! CONCRETE JUNGLE WHERE DREAMS ARE MADE OFFFFFFFFFFFFF!!!!!
The mugshot montage reminded me of season 1 of trollhunters when toby and Jim were arrested at the museum.
STRICKLER PUT A RING ON IT??? HE'S THE ONLY DILF IVE EVER ACTUALLY AGREED WAS HOT WYM I CAN'T HAVE HIM??? well I'm still really happy about his arc over the series probably one of my favorite character growths.
Eli my guy got his growth spurt!!! As an 18 year old who is still 5'0", I'm happy but envious for him
So I went into this movie without watching any trailers or promo, but I doubt anything could have prepared me for the existence of mpreg. In fact, I wasn't going to document my reactions until I saw that.
NAMURA!!!!!!!!! MY BELOVED!!!!!! I CAN STILL THIRST FOR YOU WITHOUT GUILT
The coach teacher just called the kids zoomers so I have to dock one point from my final rating just because of that. Unforgivable
Those husky animation models suck lmao
Oh fuck the titans got power ranger zords!!
God why did they include the mpreg??? This movie would have been perfect without it.... After that plot point being revisited only one time I'm already beyond done with it
Like it's bringing me back to the v*ltron days where they're was a suspiciously high amount of klance omegaverse and mpreg fics and art created and it physically hurts because Steve and Keith's voice actor is the same person meaning this is especially cursed to me since I was unfortunately in the v*ltron fandom and remember all of that
But like on another note, how old are these characters again??? I haven't checked any wikis because of spoilers but is Steve an adult??? I know aja might be technically a lot older than 18 because alien but is whatever age she is equivalent to an adult as far as emotionally and physically in Akaridion development??? IS THIS A TEEN (M)PREGNANCY IN A KIDS SHOW????
Like bruh I saw a singular post on here before going into the movie that was like "rott spoilers without context" and there was a pregnant belly but I was absolutely not expecting the actual context of it. I'll find the post after I finish and edit this post to tag the creator right here: @makoden
This entire post is just gonna be me ranting about mpreg huh
Anyway I love the whole roundtable allusion to the legends of king arthur (not the toa version but the one he's based off)
THERE'S 3 TO 5 BABIES????? I need to take a break bruh this is just too much
Alright I've taken a 30 minute break got some food and did some things i love (decompressed by tactile stimming with some owl plushies and watched some videos on my favorite owl, Garu. He lives in Japan with his owner and is a domesticated eagle owl who basically just acts like a sky cat. If anyone else needs some eye bleach, here is their YouTube channel)
Blinky and ARRRGHHH!!! saying their "if one of us doesn't make it" talk my god one of them is going to die I can see it and I will be utterly crushed. Jim can't lose another father figure and Toby can't lose his wingman again I will riot if this happens
On a similar but unrelated to the movie note, can we just talk about how toa started with Jim having 0 dads and (if strickler and blinky live to the end) will end with 2 dads? Like I just really feel happy for him that he has two dads who actually figured out how to put the past behind them to not have any infighting between them so that both of them are healthy father figures. Jim has already been through literal hell and back losing his actual humanity in the process so if he loses one of them, I'm going to be really pissed because at this point, this is just Jim torture porn. Y'all know how as SpongeBob SquarePants went on, the show just became Squidward torture porn? It's starting to feel that way for toa and I really hope they cut the shit by the ending
Jlaire is such a good ship but like I feel like it's too perfect they never disagree with each other
YESSSSSSS Someone finally doesn't treat toby like a fat waste of space who messes stuff up!!! I think out of all the characters that would have been most deserving of a rewrite, it's Toby. Sometimes I just feel he's only comic relief and any heartfelt moments he's had in the series was also born of stupidity (ie his flour baby project being unharmed was seen by him as divine intervention from his parents but was actually just Eli and Steve behind the scenes).
Ohhhhh yesssssss Archie's father!!! I was hoping I'd see him again because we got so little of him last
Ooooooooooh Asian trollmarket!!!!!
Oh never mind slavery trollmarket
Bruh titanic camelot
I feel like we're not seeing enough of the villains because I completely forgot about the power ranger zord things
NAMORA NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MY LAST CRUSHHHH
STRICKLER NO NOT YOU TOO PLEASE
WHAT THE FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THE ONLY TWO CHARACTERS I SIMP FOR ON THIS SHOW DIED WITHIN FIVE MINUTES OF EACH OTHER
THAT WHOLE ASS RANT I WROTE IS COMING TRUE FUCK THIS MOVIE THIS SERIES IS JUST JIM TORTURE PORN
WAIT JIM'S SPERM DONOR INFO?
Oh thank God I don't want to know anything about that person
For the record, I call that man Jim's sperm donor because he has no business being called a father to him. All he did was donate some swimmers to the creation of him and give him abandonment issues
Oh another blind troll elder???? This fucker is just if vendel was a bad guy
Bruh I was grieving
PACIFIC RIM WITH GUN ROBOT VEX AND THE BELROCZORD? I've never seen that movie but I know the reference
Bruh Blinky doesn't read horoscopes? Does he realize conspiracy theories are just the manly version of horoscopes?
NO DON'T KILL VEX STOP KO-ING FOUND FAMILY MEMBERS
Oh thank God he's okay
NO NOT ARCHIE AND CHARLEMAGNE OH MY GOD
oh never mind they're just gonna coup de tat I believe in them :))
But I want to see him again
But I'm glad to see vex
Yay they're in arcadia!
But yeah I wondered why the trolls and Merlin didn't keep the whole "daylight doesn't hurt trolls" feature from the eternal night but now Guillermo del Toro I see you were playing the long con in that just to kill my girl Namora :(((
Oooooh I love the animation of the Narizord over Chihuahua!! It looks very good and realistic (if only they could have put some of that into those huskies from before smh)
Bruh the character designs of the arcane order are so good I want to be them
Nari making sure the Skraelzord doesn't crush the bus
DAMN DOUBLE HOMICIDE
Bruh I'm just glad we finally have an answer on why arcadia had everything going on as opposed to literally anywhere else!! I always found that as a weird coincidence for plot convince.
BRUH WERE BACK TO THE MPREG IM SO JEALOUS I FORGOT ABOUT THAT EVEN THOUGH IT WAS BECAUSE I WAS GRIEVING THE LOSS OF MY LOVELIES.
Oh that's real convenient that the ninth configuration meant all of them. Way to not decide which character gets more attention. Though it probably was a smart way to not have any infighting in the fandom between each character's stan group.
Bruh I just realized where is Barbera did they just ditch her on the Camelot ship???
And where are the other trolls that migrated at the end of trollhunters s3? They said something about new jersey but obviously Jim and the other main characters got on Camelot instead.... This feels like a plot hole
And we never learned the process of how changelings are made and bonded to humans and stuff. We just know it's super painful but I'm curious ffs!!!!
THE DONT THINK BECOME HERO SPEECH ALL SAID TOGETHER!!!
BRUH THEY REALLY HAD TO SHOW HIM GIVING BIRTH??????? WAS THAT AN ABSOLUTE MUST??????
Plus the main audience for this series is little children (the rating for the movie is literally TV-Y7) so even though my adult ass is not in the target audience, I STILL DONT UNDERSTAND WHY WOULD MPREG AND ANAL BIRTH WOULD BE AN IMPORTANT THING TO 7 YEAR OLDS???? THIS IS A LITERAL FETISH HIDDEN IN KIDS CONTENT ITS ELSAGATE ALL OVER AGAIN Y'ALL đđđđđ
Though it's probably hypocritical of me to think fetishes don't belong in kids tv when I've openly admitted to thirsting for strickler and namora
HUZZAH
NEW AMULET WAZ GOOD????
STAB THAT BITCH JIM
WAIT NO I SAID STAB NOT GET STABBED
Alright good job just missed the directions at first but you fixed it
SEVEN KIDS?????????
T O B Y ????????????
W A I T NO
N O
IS HE ACTUALLY
OH MY GOD THERE'S HOPE
NO THERE ISN'T
F U C K THIS SHIT THEY REALLY JUST HAD HIM TO BE BULLIED THEN KILLED
Y'ALL IM ACTUALLY CRYING THIS NEVER HAPPENS
I NEVER ACTUALLY GET SO EMOTIONAL OVER MEDIA THAT I CRY IT ONLY HAPPENED ONCE AT THE END OF VOLTRON BUT AHHHHHHHH
W A I T
HE'S GONNA BE BROUGHT BACK?????
HOLD UP THEY'RE JUST GONNA BRING ALL THOSE DEAD PEOPLE BACK??????
WAIT IS HE
BLINKY CALLED HIM A SON
HOLD ON IS THIS GOING TO BE A CLIFFHANGER???????????
BRUH THEY REALLY JUST CAN'T END THE SERIES WITHOUT CLIFFHANGERS like there's always an open ending
TROLLHUNTER TOBY????? You know what forget the whole rants I had on how toby was written they just redeemed it all
And that's all! I'd rate it a 6.5/10 because it's definitely the weakest of all the sequels but still had amazing animation and some good plot points. It's just really hard to look over the bad stuff enough to rate it any higher.

What Does It Mean to Save?
I keep seeing it said that Deku, Ochaco, and Shouto will âsaveâ Shigaraki, Himiko, and Dabi, but that there will be no redemption and/or no survival for them. Iâm truly not trying to vague these posts and everyone is entitled to their opinion, but literary criticism is fundamentally responsive so Iâm writing this anyways.
I personally think thatâs not BNHAâs definition of saving nor of redemption. So here, have a deep dive into literary tropes related to redemption, genre, and character arcs as they pertain to BNHA and the question of: what does it mean to save Shigaraki, Touya, and Himiko?
Before we begin, let me say that while we might be personally uncomfortable with redemption (thereâs a redemption arc in BNHA I am personally quite uncomfortable with), that doesnât inherently mean the narrative wonât go there. The key principle Iâm operating on here is BNHAâs message that heroes save people. Itâs held up as the highest ideal.Â
So letâs talk redemption in BNHA-verse. With this guy, whose redemption arc I dislike in principle but accept as part of the story so donât come for me stans and/or antis. Iâm analyzing because it shows us what redemption means in BNHA-verse, whether or not that is satisfying to you personally as it fits/does not fit with your own morality/philosophy.
If Endeavor can be redeemed and live, and heâs Bakugouâs negative foil, I highly doubt Shigaraki and Deku as well as Touya and Shouto and Ochaco and Himiko will be any different. Why? Because Enji is an adult character. The others--well, Himikoâs age we donât know, but we do know that Shigaraki and Dabi are technically adults. But does the story consider them adults?
(It doesnât.)
Child-coded characters are generally more likely to survive a redemption, which Iâll explain more later. First I have to define what I mean by child-coding, because I DO NOT mean this in the way itâs often (mis)used in fandom wank. Child-coding is a real thing, but it is not done to infantilize and it has nothing to do with shipping.
Child coding frames the character as a child for a few narrative purposes to convey a storyâs theme or purpose. For example, if itâs a coming of age story coding a character as a child even if they legally are not emphasizes their journey to an understanding of self-actualization, or a true understanding of self with self-awareness and an understanding of self-value. An example of an adult coded as a child is The Kite Runner, wherein Amir is a legal adult for half the story, even married for fifteen years so weâre talking 30s-40s, but he does not truly become an adult until he returns to his homeland and takes responsibility for a childhood sin. In Attack on Titan, the main characters are now nineteen, but are still struggling to take responsibility as adults and have only started doing so now that their mentors/parental figures have started dying.
Along those lines, in any kind of story, you can code a character as a child of someone, regardless of biological relationship, to convey the type of relationship they have (usually a mentor one). For an example of this, see Bungo Stray Dogsâ Dazai and Akutagawa. Despite their two year age difference, Dazai recruited him to the mafia, abandoned him, and Akutagawa desperately seeks his approval. Usually in these stories a character will âovercomeâ their parental figure. This can be done through overcoming their need for the parental figureâs approval in stories where the parental figure is kindly (such as in Harry Potter, when in the final book Harry, Ron, and Hermione leave the Weasleys to find the Horcruxes despite Mrs. Weasleyâs please) or through like, killing/stopping/leaving the parental figure when they are abusive (see fairy tales like Rapunzel and Cinderella). The parental link to self-actualization is because it is childlike (and a part of actual psychology that is reflected in literature) to see yourself as a part of your parent; self-actualized person would see yourself as a distinct person from your parent, but also acknowledge the ways in which theyâve shaped you.
So, how do you code a character as a child? BNHA isnât subtle about it, because Horikoshi seldom is subtle about anything. The villain trio are all coded as children.
Shigaraki Tomura:
Who cannot achieve self-actualization so long as AFO has access to his body, as heâs literally trying to possess him. Heâs trying, but itâs not gonna work because Shigaraki canât keep AFO and become an adult at the same time. Itâs a choice the narrative is setting up: your dream of destroying, or your freedom? (To get the latter, heâll probably have to destroy AFO).
Todoroki Touya, who is repeatedly emphasized as a small child when compared to his siblings, and yes, I know heâs now tall. Specifically heâs spotlighted as the child of Endeavor:
And heâs the least self-actualized one in a lot of ways, contradicting himself constantly. Iâm not Endeavor, DUH! But these are Endeavorâs flames! Heâs gonna have to choose one or the other, because the tragic irony is that the more he takes out his rage on those around him, the more like Endeavor he becomes.
And Toga Himiko (who might well literally be a legal child), who is actually the most self-actualized one thus far, because she rejects Curiousâs child insistence (Curious holds her in a Pieta pose, based on Michelangeloâs statue wherein Mary holds a deceased Christ):
Sheâs still got, like, a way to go though:
Because Himiko also wants to be like the people she loves to the point where she loses her own identity in them, which is er, not self-actualization. So sheâll have to choose whether or not she really wants to be like the people she loves or whether she wants to live her own way, which she herself tells us how that would end (death):
Deku said it himself: itâs good to focus on what someone is doing now. And look, I have issues with this statement and how itâs framed. Iâve talked about it at length and it was doomed to fail because Shouto himself told us long ago that it was annoying to hear a righteous speech by a stranger when you hadnât gone through the same, plus Endeavor kinda failed by choosing being a hero over a dad here. But, the principle is that if the past doesnât preclude Endeavor from seeking a better self, why would it preclude three characters coded as children, one of whom is literally somewhat the product of Endeavorâs sins? BNHA doesnât think the past keeps someone from a better future.Â
So what about Dabiâs counterpoint, which is indeed valid? Well, redemption doesnât mean the past forgets, either. Itâs complicated and nuanced, and we can debate how well Horikoshi strikes this nuance (itâs got its flaws), and admittedly I donât know how this will go down in the future. But it is asking Endeavor: how do you redeem yourself to the people youâve hurt? And we have Endeavor asking this question to Touyaâs shrine. I mean, the foreshadowing is obvious. Endeavor has to redeem himself by trying to save Touya. However, it will still probably come down to Shouto to save Touya.
For our three villains, itâs a little harder to predict... well, sort of. For Shigaraki itâs extremely obvious: he has to help take down AFO. Dabi probably has to do something to help his family (siblings probably), but itâs vague. Toga needs help and not condemnation, but presumably sheâll help Ochaco with something.
So, is this redemption? Iâd define it as redemption in the eyes of the narrative. To address what makes a redemption is another essay unto itself, but if we bring in the oft-compared Star Wars example: did Darth Vader get a redemption? Did Ben Solo? Everyone says yes to both. However, only Luke witnesses Vaderâs redemption, and only Rey Ben Soloâs. So the rest of the galaxy? Doesnât think so. When I say theyâll be redeemed, Iâm defining it as their role in the eyes of the narrative, not whether or not society will accept them or even whether their victims will forgive them (of note, in canonical novels, Leia never forgave Darth Vader despite learning he was her father and obviously knowing Lukeâs account of his redemption was true).
So, redemption in a narrative doesnât mean all of society has to forgive and accept them. Dabi has still like, murdered 30 people--many of whom were thugs, but he himself acknowledges they didnât deserve to die. Additionally, he himself also acknowledges that the families left behind--their feelings matter:
But why does that mean they have to die? Why even does it mean they have to languish in prison forever? (If thereâs even a safe prison at the end of BNHA which I kinda have doubts about.) Heroes have also killed: see Hawks as Exhibit A. In fact, some people want revenge on the heroes precisely because they arrested or killed their loved ones (jail isnât held up as a rehabilitative place in BNHAâs world. In most countries it isnât in real life, either, but again thatâs for another essay). So why donât the Leagueâs feelings on Twiceâs death matter just as much as the feelings of unnamed and unseen (and thereby less important narratively) characters?
Additionally, regarding death... the villains routinely get called on their death wishes. Himikoâs determination to decide how/when she dies is called out because this is right before Twice overcomes his trauma to save her, and the next arc they appear in is when Twice dies trying to save her again. Dabiâs suicide wish keeps him from getting close to others, and it keeps getting thwarted. Shigarakiâs obsession with destruction and death is clearly not a good thing, and his rejection of his familyâs desire for them to join him in death this past arc is growth.
In other words: what Dabi said and what Snatch said about families and how they feel matter for the villains too. The villains are their own weird found family (Dabi as the deadbeat prodigal brother of both his families). Their deaths--Magneâs and Twiceâs thus far, and Iâm not ruling out further deaths in the future--affect the others. Peopleâs feelings on losing loved ones matter. The villains are people, as Himiko said herself this arc:
Their feelings about each other matter:
How would Touya dying affect the Todorokis? At least they saved him spiritually, I guess, but thatâs absolutely lame narratively, and if you have Enji eventually do a sacrifice to save Dabi (pretty likely, even if I personally think Enji will survive said sacrifice) then whatâs the point of Dabi dying? How would Himiko dying affect society? As a martyr like Curious wanted her to be, even a redeemed one? A tragic warning story? What even is the point of Ochaco saving her if thatâs the case? If Shigaraki dies, well, who would mourn besides Deku? How would Shigaraki dying affect the surviving members of the league? He just couldnât be saved physically?Â
Itâs not impossible some of this happens, but it doesnât seem like great writing, especially with panels like, oh, these that show us BNHAâs perspective on death:
Sacrificing something is a type of death that occurs in stories; this should happen in a redemption arc, which is why Iâve been saying Enji needs to sacrifice his hero reputation to help save Touya and even then itâll still be Shouto imo who does the saving. But physical death?
If you want further analysis of the latter two panels and how they relate to the ending, see here.
We already have another villain who will definitely die redemptively (Kurogiri--an adult coded character--because heâs already, like, dead), and Spinner and Mr. Compress arenât coded as kids so I hold them with anxiety towards the end. But again, this isnât me being ageist or saying this is the way things ought to be in fiction or real life: itâs me looking at writing tropes and saying that child-coded characters tend to survive their redemptions. See: Zuko. Why? Because the death of children or child-coded characters is a tragedy. When a child-coded character dies redemptively it doesnât feel like a happy ending and if framed as such, itâs often criticized for bad writing (see: Ben Solo). Curious even called this out in her fight with Himiko. I would hope Horikoshi doesnât end the story being like yeah Curious was right thatâs the best use of Himikoâs/Dabiâs/Shigarakiâs arcs:
Additionally, as for the believability of a character getting a new chance after so much destruction and murder... well, itâs kinda a thing in shonen and even in seinen? For better or for worse, itâs a thing. We have Vegeta in Dragon Ball Z and Kaneki Ken in Tokyo Ghoul (Kaneki, by the way, is absolutely an inspiration for Shigaraki). We can debate how well-written these redemptions are (I personally have been quite critical of Kanekiâs despite wanting it to happen narratively), but it can be done. BNHAâs Japan especially isnât as harsh a world as Tokyo Ghoulâs Japan, so it would make even more sense for something like Kanekiâs ending.
The reality is that the cycle of revenge via hurting people and then leaving hurting families and loved ones has to stop somewhere. Someone has to be the bigger person and step up and be like ânaw.â Thatâs heroic. Thatâs brave. Thatâs sacrificial itself. Justice itself doesnât really exist in its purest form without mercy.
Thereâs another genre-reason I donât see death or jail as likely (I could see, like, maybe a mental health ward like Reiâs? But itâs too soon to speculate).
If saving is considered a good thing for the story, if itâs truly the highest ideal, then saving someone should be rewarded by the narrative. The characters who save should have a positive result to show us this a good thing.
This is why it doesnât work for the heroesâ end journey to be accepting that some people cannot be saved. The notion of just accepting that you cannot do something, you cannot save everyone, you cannot, cannot, cannot, is called out as a flaw of society. Determination, on the other hand, is rewarded.
We see it with Deku as well as with Mirio.
So, what if they save them and the redeemed characters then go on to sacrifice themselves in their redemption and die (come to the same end)? If saving changes absolutely nothing for the saved person, if itâs too late for the saved from themselves to change and/or do anything that matters besides die, then the narrative theme of saving as important is left unemphasized at best and undermined at worst. Simple intrinsic knowledge that the kids âdid the right thingâ doesnât cut it for a story with so much focus on physical saving when the kids are already doing the right thing; moral struggles about whether to choose to be good arenât really Deku, Ochaco, or Shoutoâs arcs. It works for Aizawaâs arc with Kurogiri, but not for the kiddos. If BNHA was more of a philosophical/spiritual text, that would indeed make sense, but it is not. Genre-wise, BNHA is a fantastical superhero optimistic story, not a gritty real-world set drama.

210227 â Xiao Zhan's weibo update | translation by xzhan1005
Today, I have some things Iâd like to say to everyone. I thought about various methods, and in the end I decided to use the simplest one, which is to tell everyone my feelings and perceptions this year. These thoughts may not represent anything, and may not solve anything, but I still hope to say this openly today.
This time last year, the storm happened very suddenly, and like a bomb that suddenly exploded, it sent me into a state of shock â my phone rang off the hook, my Wechat notifications never stopped, everyoneâs suggestions and questions all came at me at the same time. I wanted to speak out, but I didnât know what to say. I had many concerns, and I was scared that any word or sentence would be over-analyzed and exaggerated, causing further disturbance. So at that time, I chose to not say anything.
I didnât expect for the feelings of opposition between various circles and levels of online discourse to snowball bigger and bigger, with more and more ramifications. Gradually, it was out of one personâs control, and even though afterwards, I wanted to speak out to recover it, nothing could have worked out the way I had hoped for anymore.
This kind of life clamored and tore at me until now. And this year, my condition was as if I had been through countless long and dark corridors. Uneasiness, reflection, struggle⊠I also once questioned, what did I do wrong, why did everything after that day sail off like an uncontrollable ship?
I spent a long time digesting all this, and I spent even longer to understand everyoneâs actions and words. Slowly, I began to understand what everyoneâs criticisms were of me. From the moment that I didnât express my attitude, I had already missed the window to rationally communicate with everyone; from the start, I was wrong.
At that time, I hadnât gotten a clear understanding of the entire issue, and I didnât understand everyoneâs emotions. Further to that, I didnât understand what kind of responsibility I needed to take on at times like this. Therefore, I missed the timing to communicate with everyone, and missed out on taking the responsibility to guide those oppositional emotions. Now, I clearly realize and understand that in this year, everyoneâs criticism towards me being âidol without a voiceâ is correct. In this year, I constantly reflected that as a public figure, aside from improving my skills continuously, itâs even more important that I bear responsibility, take on my social duties, and bravely express correct values. Within my limitations, I should guide those who love me, and pay attention to me. Even though in this year, my studio and myself have expressed this attitude through Weibo and interviews, the storm caused because of me and the harm brought to others due to opposition of different circles is hard to heal.
No matter how late, I must correct my problems. I hope to make my first stance â Xiao Zhan hereby apologizes, to the people who were hurt last year and continue to be hurt because of my âloss of voiceâ. This is the first responsibility I should take on towards the public; face the problem straight on, and accept my mistake.
At the same time, I hope to use this chance to say some things to my fans. This is the second responsibility I need to take on. In an interview last year, I said, I donât agree with âmanagingâ fans, because everyone is their own individual person, and whether itâs me or my studio, we donât have the right to treat this relationship like a senior-junior management relationship. Later on, I repeatedly thought and reflected, and maybe I canât use the word âmanageâ for the relationship with fans, but I have the duty to âguide correctly and encourage actively.â So today, I want to tell my fans, everyone has the right to like or dislike, and regardless of whether itâs liked or disliked, it should be respected, and allowed in its respective spaces of expression. Of course, this right applies within the boundaries of correct values and if itâs rational and doesnât hurt others. I hope that my fans can understand, no matter what industry or age group youâre in, your likes and actions cannot reach outside of those boundaries, and definitely canât be against the rules of the profession or beyond moral limits. Whether itâs online or in the real world, each person should be responsible for their own words and actions. Furthermore, I hope that each of us do not let ourselves be represented by the self-created label of âso and soâs fansâ, and donât form a distinct position from this, and even more importantly, donât judge good and bad from this position. Everyone has their interests and likes, please respect each personâs choice and freedom of speech. Whether they like me or dislike me, itâs in their own right. Love should be the source of strength for us, and I hope that this source doesnât wear on or hurt others. Maybe I cannot change the overall environment, but at least we can start from you and me; today is a new starting point.
Finally, I want to chat with everyone about myself. From the moment I entered this industry, until now, Iâve always had labels on me. But my original reason for coming into the industry was my love for acting and music. And because of this, Iâm always working hard to become a more professional actor and singer. In the face of the sudden criticism of âidol without a voiceâ, I realized that aside from focusing on my own skills, I need to take on my rightful responsibilities and duties as a public figure, as an idol. I was born in an ordinary Chongqing family, and like many people, I lived an ordinary life for more than twenty years. Today, I want to take this opportunity to express my apology for inappropriate remarks I made as a regular person, and to the people I unintentionally hurt. I will work had to learn to become a better âpublic figureâ, as I do my own tasks well. Iâll make it so that these two Xiao Zhans can accept each other and merge so that I can become a better version of myself.
I need to be responsible for the various disturbances that arose because of me in this past year, whether big or small. I can have requirements for myself, but I cannot force them upon others. I just hope that the people who truly like me can listen seriously to me; please add a level of ârationalityâ beyond a personâs likes and dislikes. Live positive and healthy lives, and put your focus and most of your energy in your real lives. Spend less time fighting, battling, opposing virtual IDs in the online world, and more time working to improve in the real world. Itâs just for the sake of becoming better versions of yourselves.

Apritello Express Evidences, part 1
Greetings, Apritello enthusiasts and attention! Here comes a loong post is written by totally nerd. You've been warned. Here we go.
The thing is that Apritello is a double-edged sword. The series shows us established friendship of these two, give us a lot of content with them. We can see development of relationship through interaction between the characters, their reaction about the situations they are put in. We can sense their synergy and bound through the show.
Donnie and April have incredible chemistry, and both options, brotp and otp seems fine to me.
But let me tell you why I ship them.
Apritello is the kind of pairings, which consists of small details, hints, that's hidden, but if you're sharp and attentive one, you will notice that. Apritello has a strong foundation: the best friends trope.
And from the very beginning, it works as planned.
When I start watching show, I could say that April and Donnie are best friends. It is worth noting that April is like an older sister to the other brothers, more of a sisterly figure than a friend, but with Donnie she behaves somewhat differently, namely, as best friend. Obviously, she sets him apart from his brothers, although girl tries to pay attention to all of them equally. And Donnie behaves as well.
Dee's battle shell designs for April needs as well as his. His shell transform into comfy spot for taking ride for April. Special and only for her. Because his bros are not supposed to use it (at least, he carries no one on his back), Donnie carries them by his techno-bĂł or his limbs.
This tiny detail shows his special treatment to her. April is a very, very special occasion to D. Don does care about her comfort, he accept the way she is. Donatello does not try to prevent her from participating in their affairs because he respects her decisions and is pleased that April can be shoulder to shoulder with him.
D is glad to be at her service.
Yeah, Dee's still playing cool, he has image to perform as tough and coolheaded guy. So Don doesn't show his intentions, interest and feeling to other people (he's tryin', but fails). Because his actions matter. They are always small, hidden, but meaningful.
April, in return, trusts Dee and depends on his tech, even knowing what his inventions are the opposite of success (usually).
Go on. Look at Donnie's facial expressions and body language when April is near.
Donnie seems more relaxed when she's around, happier. His emotional response is always different from his brothers ones.
Oh, and look, he wanted to be first to give her a high three.
They worry about each other. Look at Don. He does worry about her way more than his brothers. Yeah, they all want to protect her, but Donnie is more expressive.
Mayham has no particular sympathy for the brothers: he is afraid of Raph and behaves aggressively, he is indifferent to Leo and Mikey. Mayham immediately takes a liking to April. And then the details come back: he let Donnie touch his neck. The most vulnerable place for any living creation, for a second. Let him to study an important vial without any hesitation. Mayham depends on April trust for Donnie. When everything goes wrong for Don, the little doggie comes to his rescue, just as April would have done. Is the hint transparent enough?
We can see links with "A mystic library", wherĐ” Donnie begins to look for solutions to save April's pet. Yes, this may seem like his next leap, "sit down, I'm smart, and now I'll solve all the problems, watch and learn," but Don says one phrase that opens up the veil of the second plan, what happens behind the scenes. "My illiteral colleagues and I was conducting a mustic research, with a life of the beloved pet, hanging in a bounce".
Strange wording, Donatello. Beloved pet? Not yours, as we can see. I can say, that everything in this sentence is true, but Donnie and Mayham has something more.
Continue. Next episode "Origami tsunami". Interactions are kept to a minimum, as April herself appears for a maximum of 5 minutes in the series itself. But devil is always in the details, dear friends.
When April was attacked and hung up, the only one who excitedly called out to her was Donny. Raph is furious that the thieves have escaped, Leo is frustrated that their plan has failed, and Mikey is worried about the salami.
Yeah, we didn't see his worries about her when she fell, because Donnie is on the mission and must be coolheaded turtle, and second, he's calm because now April life is safe and sound, out of the danger.
Dear passangers, Apritello Express arrives to the next station - episode "War and Pizza".
Bare facts:
1. April has Donnie's number on an emergency call.
2. "Anything for you"
3. Donnie is the reason why Alberto knows April's name.
No one calles April by her name (except for Donnie, while phone call, but Alberto wasn't nearby) it was "Captain O'Neil" by her chief, her badge seems blank. And yeah, you can say, that's just economy of budget, but I assure you: in the first episode we were shown the name of the delivery guy. The animators were not lazy bones and wrore "Stewart" on his badge. So if something isn't there, then it either shouldn't be there, or it really isn't, that's how this show works.
So, the reason explained in the episode. When Al has short circuit, parts of its new code flashed through its mind.
Info about April was in its memory, in its code. Alberto was a lame animatronic, and it seems somewhat outdated. I do really doubt about Alberto is being something smartass machine with complicated AI like Freddy's Pizza's ones. Quite questionable. Donatello fix Al's brain and wrote code, synchronize with his remote control. He put information about Cap O'Neil into animatronic's head. All this pictures are kind of massage: "You was created for birthday celebrations. You are machine, and there concepts of "life" and "birth". Do great party for this birthday kid and April won't be like this". Or, something like that.
So Alberto did - do a memorable party. And he do what his creator programmed him to do, but in his way.
4. In other words, Alberto was a tool to impress April. Don flaunts himself in front of her, stating how he did the upgrade while doing the upgrade, even though April is fully aware of his tech wizard. And his abilities supposed to help Cap O'Neil to finish the birthday party, so she will stay at her job, not fired. All thanks to Donnie and his upgrade Alberto. (Or not)
By the way, Donnie was the last to leave April in ruined "Alberto's". And it's not an isolated case, it is a pattern.
5. They understand each other without words.
First, Donny came at her at the speed of light. Second, she hadn't even finished speaking before Dee was taking Al apart. Third, their chaotic, well-coordinated work? Donnie was a distraction (although he wanted to just take a break from the battle or let Alberto's guard down, while April just knocked him out). Donnie and April are great team, and sometimes the DonniexApril team is much more precise, coordinated, and interdependent than the DonniexBrothers one.
D&A feel each other and anticipate each other's actions, their skills complement each other, creating an incredible synergy of their interaction. They act as a whole, while it's not always possible with his brothers, even though they're family and know each other the way more Donnie know April. And Dee hasn't trained with cap O'Neil.
Donatello didn't show his crush for April. No puppy, loving eyes, no lovey-dovey speeches, no planning schemes (at least, the audience don't see one) . He just want her attention, but stays cool and hidden. D is already her BFF, but still.
The same thing is claimed in 5B episode - Mascot Melee. Donnie has no problems with interaction with idol of his childhood - Atomic Lass. She'd put Leo in a stupor, but Donnie? He playfully challenges her to a dance duel. Yes, he adores this character, who may have become his measure of the attractiveness of others to Donatello, determined his type. But still, he's playing all cool and confident guy, he's really smooth with girls, so you will never see a puppy loving eyes from him. Only two things can betray him at this point: his voice and his body language. Remember, how's soft his voice became for Atomic Lass? Now I want you to remember the scene before, in turtle tank, when April sent guys a meme.
D is the first to respond to the message, despite the fact that Mikey is sitting closest to the screen. And the responding is a little too emotional for this situation, don't you think?
And this face of his. And he comments it. He likes her sense of humour.
The only difference between April and Atomic Lass is that the first one is a real girl who is a friend of their family, practically a member of it; and the other one is just a fictional character. It is easier to say about love for a fictional character, because it brings less problems for a teenager, especially when he is living with three brothers and a father who likes to tease as well. Donatello needs to be careful and outline the area of emotions he could show, so that he does not get hurt.
Now, dear passangers, we are returning to the previous episode, shall we?
Donnie presents to his brothers his precious Turtle tank, but she's gone, and it's really necessary to find out, who has taken her. And the first person to suspect is April.
Something is odd, don't you think? Yeah, Raphael has taken tyre for their "Midnight special", Leo claimed that Donnie's stuff is common, but they are D's beothers. It's natural for family to borrow(stole) stuff of each other. But this trend was not observed in April. She would never steal anything from Donnie, much less steal anything from him.
Actually, there is a good, logical and solid explanation here. April was number 1 in Donatello' suspect list, because he simply told her about Turtle tank. His brothers didn't know he were working at Moon buggy, except Mikey (Orange helps Dee get the vehicle from Repomantis), but they didn't know what exactly Donnie was working for. They didn't know he build the Turtle tank, he kept it a secret, to surprise his brothers. But April knew.
- Alright you! Where's our turtle tank?
- Hi, DONNIE. You have 9 seconds to say, why are you just broke my door.
- Someone's stole Donnie's turtle tank.
- Haha-ow, I see. As your best friend, you naturally suspect me.
- She gets it!
- Oh-ho, don't give me that! You're the only one could taken it!
The only one, because she knew about it.
As Splints said in this episode - "April is not a snitch"
Donatello does trust April and share with her both, sorrows and joys. But we are not shown this directly. We do not see the action itself, we do not see their calls and conversations on the phone late at night, we only see the consequence. We have no choice and take it as a given.
And the way she cooled him down? Fast, efficient, and Donnie seems to used to it. Moreover, she slapped everyone, but still, she throw Don out of window the last. However, why such a large time delay between him, being slapped and him, was throwing out of the window?
And my favourite scene. It was obvious that Donnie had taken the hardest hit (judging by his scream and the way he was putting his knuckles back in place). Don then claims that their inner circle is secure, Mikey tries to make amends for everyone, and April agrees, blowing them a kiss and closing the window. Cute and mean, isn't it? (You're cute! but mean! why do I always go for your type?! - ep. War and Pizza)
Nota bene: Donnie wouldn't apologize to April. Tough, not caring badass boy image, remember? Even to best friends. It's hard to him to express his feelings by using words, he cannot do it in proper way. But he has Mikey, who is so alike inner him. Michelangelo apologizes not only for himself, but for D mostly, because D starts suspected April.
Let's continue: the episode 8B: Hypno Part Deux
âą Donnie put "Donnie's blocker" at April's phone to protect her.
It's common thing that your friend install some programs or apps on your device. But you will always ask your friend to do such a favour, and you will always know about what, when and where were installed on your phone.
And April didn't know Donnie had done something with her phone. It was a real surprise for her, to see blocker with "Donnie says no-no-no".
And you know, the interface of his app. The way he tell this current phrase. Donnie could put a huge banner "THE APP YOU WANT DOWNLOAD TO IS A REAL PIECE OF GARBAGE", as usual antiviruses do. But no, voice interface. It makes the app more personal and thoughtful. Because when Don made gifts for his brother, the program was voiced by a computer-generated female voice. Yes, the tank's interface is voiced by Donatello himself, but his voice sounds more like Google than the real Don. And, we talking about HIS BABEY, for a second. Bit still, the point remains.
âą Also, Dale.
Dale is nerdy boy in purple, wow, how convenient for making a parallel with certain purple turtle.
But thing is, April doesn't like Dale. He's clingy, remora guy, who has a little obsession with April, even he's not harmful, still, such behaviour freaks girls (and not them only) out. Her classmate is usually tell her what April O'Neil is "his favourite person" and he loves her. There is little that is attractive about this behavior.
So, there is nothing new and unpredictable here that Dale was rejected. Because April didn't, doesn't and won't like him because of his lame personality and strange behaviour. Our girl in yellow do right thing: she clearly sets personal boundaries and does not allow any dubious personalities to invade them. So that's the reason she refuses to go on a date with him at the end. He's weird, obsessed, and she doesn't like him.
Donatello, as far as I concerned from different versions of TMNT, was always a little obsessive with some things. And, you know, putting a blocker inside your best friend's phone seems a little weird, because it's, in simple words, violation of privacy and personal space. And there are people who may regard this as stalking or sorta.
Yeah, for the most part, he gets away with it, not only because April's focus is in a different area, but also because their bond is stronger than April's with anyone else at school.
She has known him for years. Donnie is her best friend. I can't say that it's fine to her when Dee violates her personal space - her phone, but April can accept Donatello's personality in general.
And he does really have good intentions. Donnie installed this blocker, developed by himself only for one reason: to protect personal space April from fishy apps from nowhere, from being hacked and etc. Don knew her too well, how much she depends on stupid apps that will distract her. He also knew well, that he can't be with her 24/7 to fix problems with April's phone, so Dee put a part of himself to prevent any harm in the future.
And again, "Donnie's gifts"'s vibes. Donatello genuinely cared about April, because he wrote, coded, developed, designed, and dubbed it, turned on the database, and installed it all on April's phone. 'cause, you know, writing programs in general is a bit of a hassle, but writing an antivirus is much more difficult, because viruses are changing, and questionable applications are finding ways to bypass. Do you feel how much effort Dee put in for her?
But Donatello didn't mean to fix April, as he tried to do with his brothers. Purple turtle accepts this girl the way she is, and tries his best to play smoothly with April, by adjusting, not being passive aggressive jerk. It's his outstanding way to show his caring nature, soft side.
Remember, small but meaningful actions.
Maybe, Donnie also can foresee that April may be forced to download some suspicious program, but still, it work: he managed to prevent April being hypnotized, even if couldn't be physically with April at the this moment - Dee was working for Repo Mantis, building dog's paradise for Todd. That's why, by the way, Leo and Raph were dragged into this whole situation. Mayham would teleported literally anyone to help his hostess. Donnie just wasn't at the Lair at the moment.
And on this note, we'll take a break for now. Stay tuned, expect parsing of the series, there's a lot to discuss.

SUNSHINE | MAKO
PAIRING: Mako x Kyaâs Daughter!Reader [fem]
PLOT: Makoâs always had a little crush on Y/N. After all, who wouldnât? But admitting it to himself? Yeah, no. Just the thought of admitting it to her? Even bigger no. Heâd never consider confessing..right? based on these requests by anons
WARNINGS: fluff, mutual pining, friends to lovers
WORD COUNT:Â 2.3k
A/N:Â i love mako sm like you guys donât even know. this man OWNS me fdjafdlsjk. also i got a little carried away with these requests and i took them to the next level so please enjoy :)
MY MASTERLIST
Mako was living his absolute worst nightmare.Â
Stuck aboard an airship with his two exes, his brother, his boss, and his bossâ ex with no opening window to jump out of?
The day was definitely not in his favor.
Every hour seemed to be the same.
Radio a call..hear about a new airbender..find the map..use the map..go to the town..get kicked out of the town..return to the beginning.
While Mako did love having a routineâhe was bored of this one.
The only thing that made his day even slightly interesting was Y/N.
It wasnât long ago when he had met the water tribe girl. Theyâd first spoken during the Glacier Spirits Festival in the Southern Water Tribe.
He had been introduced to her mother, Kya, through Bolin. His younger brother was so starstruck by Avatar Aangâs only daughter, that he couldnât help but drag along her own daughter with him for the entirety of the festival.
Bolin spent the rest of the night proudly walking alongside the teenage girl, who had to have been at least two to three years older than him.
He went around and showed her off to all of their friends from Republic City, even if they already knew her.
âDonât make a show of it, but I know the Avatarâs granddaughter. You donât need to be wowed or anything, itâs no big deal.â
âBolin, Iâm literally her uncle.â
Mako was one of the very last people to meet the infamous Y/N.
It was right after his argument with Korra about the situation between her father and Unalaq. His emotions were all over the place, confusion and annoyance dominated his mood.
But all of his anger dissolved with one look at her smile.
It was at that moment when Mako decided that Y/N had a gift.
She could lift someoneâs spirit with a single glance. Her eyes always glowed with positivity and her soul was the purest one he had ever come across.
Y/N could be compared to the rising sun. Just by existing, she radiated more light and goodness than the greatest man on Earth could ever achieve.
It had been a very brief introduction.Â
âMako, my man!â Bolin slapped his palm over the firebenderâs shoulder, a cheesy side smile pointed at the teenage girl standing next to him.Â
âThis is my good friend, Y/N. Y/N meet my big bro!â
Y/N beamed, her teeth sparkling under the moonlight. She held out her hand in a friendly manner and looked straight into Makoâs eyes, unafraid of making eye contact.Â
âItâs nice to meet you, Mako.â She spoke whilst shaking his hand. âIâve only known Bolin for an hour and I feel like I already know everything about you.â
Mako groaned in embarrassment. He was always flattered by how much Bolin looked up to him, but sometimes his little brother went a little too far.
âYou had an hour? Let me guess..â Mako pointedly looked at Bolin, shaking his head in amusement. âHe mustâve told you our entire life story by now.â
When she laughed at his blunt attempt at a joke, Makoâs heart soared right then and there.Â
It was like the fire inside of him had been ignited with gasoline. but instead of her water smothering his flames..they made the grow. Made them stronger.
Though Mako hadnât realized these lurching feelings at the time. He did have a girlfriend after all, and he liked to think he would never intentionally cheat on her.
That didnât stop him from admiring her from afar.
Platonically of course.
There werenât many moments after the festival where Mako found himself alone with Y/N.Â
He had chosen to follow Korra to open the spirit portals and Y/N went off to tour the air temples with her extended familyâand if he was being honest, he hadnât had much time to think about her between fighting off evil spirits and breaking up with his girlfriend.
It wasnât until after Team Avatar defeated Unalaq and Vaatu, that Makoâs mind returned to his unresolved and unrealized feelings.
With the spirit portals open, the world was new again.
Thousands of people were traveling, discovering places they never knew existed, and migrating to different nations.
Luckily for Mako, Y/N had been one of those people.
It had taken her about a week to move into her apartment in Republic City.
Her flat was quaint but cosy. It had views overlooking the busy downtown and bustling people, and she had easy access to stores and shops in the neighborhood.
There was nothing wrong with her new home, but it wasnât like the South. In fact, it was nothing like the South.
Y/N missed her friends and colleagues. She missed the chilly wind that would slice through the air and freeze her cheekbones. She missed the animals and the overall energy that the South had.
But she was open to new beginnings and new friendsâand her open mindset was exactly what led her to join her family and Team Avatar on the search for new airbenders.
Which is right where Mako had left off.Â
The airship was dreadful, dreary, and just plain boring.Â
His main source of entertainment was watching a cloud disappear from his view, and then preceding to find another one for his eyes to chase.
Luckily for him, Y/N was also bored out of her mind. She had no one to talk to on the ship.
Korra? Tempting, but intimidating.
Asami? Sure if Y/N was less hippy and more business mogul.
Bolin? Yeah, she didnât want to go down that path again.Â
Lin? No way.
Her actual family members? Good optionâbut Tenzin was boring and all Jinora did was read old scrolls.
Y/N was at a loss, and the only person that seemed remotely interesting was the brooding firebender staring out of the window.
When she approached him, Mako was at a loss for words.
He had been thinking about this moment for awhile now, and had a pun filled pick-up line ready to go, but when it came down to crunch time, he stalled.Â
âHey,â Y/N smiled, gesturing to the seat next to Mako on the iron bench. âMind if I sit?â
Makoâs mouth opened to respond, but no words came out of his mouth. He sat there like a fish out of water, nodding his head silently.
Y/N shrugged her shoulders and happily sat next to the nineteen year old.Â
With her being so close in proximity, Makoâs brain flashed exe.error messages through his thoughts.
They sat in a comfortable, yet also awkward silence for a long time.Â
Every time Mako tried to get a word out, he stumbled. His nerves overcame his speech, preventing him from sounding the least bit cool.
Scratch that. They prevented him from sounding like an actual person and not a toddler that just learned how to speak.
After what felt like generations, Mako was saved by none other than his ex-girlfriends.
âWe just landed,â Korra said, waving to the former probender and his companion. A confused look flashed across her face at the sight of them so close yet so uncomfortable.
Asami then poked her head around the corner, coming into view. âAre you guys going to come out or what?â
Y/N was the first to jump up, nodding her head enthusiastically.
She nearly sprinted to the exitânot because she wanted to get away from her encounter with Mako, she was just really excited to meet new people.
Mako heaved a deep sigh when she was completely out the door and out of earshot. It felt like he could finally breathe again without the stress of being in her presence.
âYou like her?â Korra crossed her arms over one another, leaning against the wall as Asami stood by her side.
âWhat?â Mako stuttered, his face flooding with hues of red and pink.
âWhy would you say that?â
âNo Way!â
âI donât even know what youâre talking about!â
Korra and Asami loudly laughed at Makoâs rambling, while they had both been hurt by his actions in the past, they had come to forgive himâand they wanted nothing more than for him to find his special someone.
âOkay, then.â Korra shrugged, pulling Asami out of the room with her, âWhatever you say, Mako.â
Mako dropped his face into his hands, pulling at his hair as he mentally beat himself up.
âBut if it matters,â he looked up to see Korra still standing at the door. A genuine smile shown on her face.Â
âI think you two would be perfect together.â
As Korra finally left him to himself, Mako couldnât help but think about how lucky he was to have a friend like her.Â
She was everything he didnât need in a relationship, but everything he couldâve ever wanted in a friendship.Â
Eventually, Mako did manage to force himself off of the airship. He helped with the little show the airbenders put on to influence others to join the nomads and even fought a few bad guys while he was at it.Â
He was finally having a good day, until the little punk tried to steal his wallet.
âWait,â he ordered, pulling Kai back by the neck of his shirt. Mako held out his hand expectantly and gave the younger boy a hard look.Â
âI think you might have something of mine.â
Kai smiled sheepishly before pulling out the firebenderâs stolen goods.Â
âIt mustâve fallen into my pocket, my bad.â
Mako glared at the new airbender. The stare he was giving Kai was so cold, it could intimidate a pack of polar bear dogs.
âNow listen here,â he bent down to Kaiâs level. His tangerine eyes meeting Kaiâs green ones. âI know your game. I used to be the master at it, actuallyâand let me tell you that it gets you absolutely nowhere.â
Mako sighed, he already saw so much of himself in the kid that he didnât want him to go down the same hard path that he did.
âAll I want is the best for you, kid.â He patted Kai on the shoulder before sending him off to join Jinora on the ship. âDonât mess up this opportunity.â
There were times where Mako enjoyed being the big bad cop or the authoritarian figure, but this was not one of those times.Â
He just wanted Kai to have the best life he possibly could.
The life he had always wanted for himself.
Unbeknownst to Mako, his secret crush had witnessed the whole ordeal.
His pure-hearted intentions touched Y/N. Acts of kindness and wellbeing always found their way into her heart, and his act of good caught her attention in a very positive way.Â
It caught her attention enough, that she found herself standing right behind him.
âThat was really sweet what you said back there.â She told Mako, who jumped in surprise at her soft voice.
âYeah, I tried. Iâve been where he is before. I know how it ends.â
Mako felt much more comfortable now that Y/N had started the conversation. He wasnât afraid to give his thoughts knowing that she was the one who wanted to talk to him.
Y/N let out a low breath. Her hair willowed in the breeze, her eyes shining under the sunlight. She looked like a lost spirit.
A beautiful lost spirit, Mako thought.Â
âI try, too.â She whispered to him. Mako could barely hear her voice, it was so faint.
âSometimes being there for everyone else has its downfall.â Y/Nâs sparkling eyes turned dim, sadness drowned her usually uplifting features.
âI spend all my energy making sure that everyone I love is happy, but then thereâs never anyone looking out for me, you know?â
Mako did know.
He knew exactly how she was feeling. Heâd raised Bolin since they were children.Â
If anyone knew the pressures of holding onto another personâs burdens, it was Mako.
âIâve noticed that,â Mako said, stepping closer to the girl. He could see that her eyes were welling with tears, all he wanted to do was wrap his arms around her and make all the negative energy go away.Â
So thatâs exactly what he did.
Y/N melted into Makoâs embrace. She felt his body radiate heat, he warmed not only her body, but her heart in an instant.
âI see you, with Tenzinâs kids.â Mako ran his hand down her back, comforting Y/N as best he could. âThey look up to you more than they do anyone else. Youâre really amazing, Y/N. Iâm surprised you donât hear it more often.â
Right then and there, Y/N realized exactly what she needed in her lifeâand it was Mako.
If she was being honest with herself, he hadnât exactly caught her eye before.
She thought he was somewhat bland at the Glacier Spirits Festival and the whole double girlfriend situation definitely didnât spark her interest in the firebender, but now here she was..
Crying in his arms, confessing her insecurities, and feeling heard.
She had never felt heard before.
âI think youâre really amazing.â Mako blurted out.Â
He cringed at his confession, hoping that she didnât take it the wrong way. If there even was a wrong way to take it.
Mako felt Y/N grow still in his arms. His heart pounded in anticipation for what her next words would be.
To his surprise she pulled away..
Before pressing a deep kiss to his lips.
Mako immediately responded. His mouth moved languidly with hers, connecting in the most perfect way, as if they were meant to be.
His entire body nearly combusted. Her bright spirit combining with his fiery one.
Mako felt like sunshine was running through his veins.
She pulled away, giving him one last chaste kiss.
âI think youâre amazing, too.âÂ
i love feedback pls give me some

Max & Helen - From the Beginning...
In preparation for the sharpwin ship sailing next week, I went and rewatched season 1 to really contextualise the way their relationship has developed, and I have to say it was quite eye opening.
The Introduction
We are introduced to Georgia in the first scene with Max via his phone screen, thereâs a photo of her as his background photo. Their first conversation on screen happens when he calls her in the middle of this day just after he speaks to Helen for the first time
Max- Just calling to say hi
Georgia- Really?
Max- isnât that what people do?
Georgia- people, yes. YouâŠnot so much.
Max- Iâm trying, Iâm going to change, Iâm going to win you back
Georgia- well you have 12 weeks.
It isnât until later that we find out fully that this marriage is failing and being held together by guilt and a difficult pregnancy, which makes it even worse that Maxâs attempt at âtryingâ was calling her in the middle of the day to say nothing compelling.
Enter Helen- confident, smart, an asset to the hospital and the only doctor Max personally seeks out on his first day- to insist that she immediately cut down on travel or get fired. While the other doctors are stats and figures to him when he starts at New Amsterdam, Helen is Dr Helen. Already their relationship is being established as different from his relationship with the other doctors. In a throat biopsy, heâs distracted by her on tv- so distracted in fact, that heâs pushed to give her another ultimatum even though the first one hasnât expired.
Maxâs ultimatum was significant for Helen because for the first time since she had been running and hiding from the pain in her life, someone saw her and cared enough to make her stop. Even though it was a medical director she just met, and it was because of work, it was grounding for her for someone to see her and need her in that way.
Her choosing to come back was significant, not just because of Max, but because it was the catalyst for facing the emotional baggage she had been trying to escape.
So here we are- Max in the hospital where his sister died and donated her organs, trying to find closure and Helen- weighed down by emotional baggage that sheâs ready to face.
Tell Me One True Thing
Georgia and Max meet in the hospital where he works- her energy is light and energetic; their connection is fun and their first date is in the hospital cafeteria. From that scene, their banter is fun and flirty, but Max is relaxed â they both are, itâs an easy connection. When Max proposes, he does it by the hospital when heâs on call! Heâs in his scrubs and not only does he think thatâs okay- she thinks thatâs okay.
Their relationship never really existed outside of his career, he never put her first, and she points this out when she finds out about the medical director job. She knows that he will not choose her over the hospital, especially not the hospital where Luna died. The thing is, Max doesnât even really try. He never chooses her, and she never actually expects him to.
When he almost dies at the lake and has the temporary epiphany that he has to take his cancer seriously, she doesnât advocate for him to leave his job- even thoughâŠhe almost died. She knows the job still comes first. Georgia and Maxâs relationship thrived on emotional distance- when Georgia begs him in her hospital bed to tell her one true thing- he could only say- I love you. While he and Helen debated his cancer treatment, her only input was going with what Max wanted? When he woke up from his minor tooth surgery, his first thought wasnât how the surgery chain went, it was what helen said specifically.
I love my doctor
Before Helen, Max had likely never felt true intimacy and vulnerability. He had likely never been able to be himself completely with a partner. We donât know much about his relationship with his parents, but we can deduce that heâs not close to them.
Although the physical chemistry was palpable from their first scene, Max and Helen built a friendship based on trust and honesty since they let each other in very early. This relationship was built with the best intentions but every relationship comes to a point where emotion supersedes emotion and thatâs where we ended up at 1x 16 where the clairvoyant tells Max that heâs going to lose someone close to hum. As soon as she assured him that it wasnât his wife, he pulls Helen aside to reassure her and try to explain how he feels about her ending by saying âI love my doctorâ.IN THE MIDDLE OF TREATING A PATIENT IN THE MIDDLE OF A STORM WHILE MARRIED. At this point, both Max and Helen are at a crossroads of the undeniability of their connection, even though they are both too principled and respectful to call it anything other than âthis thing between usâ.
At the lake, when he goes to spread ashes for Luna, he says to her- or to the wind that heâs addressing as her- everything I do is because of you. I just keep trying to save you , over and over thatâs all I do and I never, never will.
Now where did we end up hearing those EXACT words before?
In that moment, itâs Max admitting that heâs been consumed with emotions that are clouding his judgment and he has to let go.
When Helen uses those words in 2x16, the subtext is the same. By that time, she had saved his life and even Georgiaâs life- multiple times. She even saved his life twice in one episode! She saved his life by taking on his cancer in the first place, she saved his life by choosing to pass him off to another doctor when he was using their relationship as an opportunity to not take his cancer seriously and she saved his life by making the decision for him to stop that treatment when it wasnât working. She took on the role of deputy medical director- which letâs face it was more or less the medical director, she found him, not one but two trials, she gave up half her department that she loved more than anything. She gave up her romantic relationship- she meant it when she said everything Iâve done Iâve done for you- just like Max meant it when he said it to Luna. Max and Helen had have both poured themselves into people that couldnât pour back, one because she was dead, and the other because he had too many warring emotions to deal with.
Helen could have let Max save her more- he definitely was willing to be that person and showed it many times, but we have to accept that she was in a very difficult position. Just as soon as she felt settled, started a new relationship, made a decision about freezing her eggs, sheâs hit with a consuming, intimate relationship with someone thatâs married. She had to leave some walls up. Â
Everything I Do Is For You
Their characters have gone through a lot- Helen has a dead parent and a dead fiancĂ©e, fertility issues and a fear of vulnerability and the feeling of running out of time- Max has a dead wife, who he had outgrown emotionally, raising a child alone, battling with grandparents that blame him for their daughterâs death and parents that by all indications donât play a significant role in his life, plus a dead sister he has carried with him his whole life. Finding each other was in many ways, the catalyst each of them needed to move forward with life at so many points. For Max, he could have very well died without Helen- Georgia could have died in the bedroom without Helen- his grieving process would definitely have been longer and more complicated without Helen â it wasnât insignificant that she was the one that pushed the ghost of Georgia out of the apartment, she was an anchor through it all.
For Helen, she was pushed to come back to the hospital and by having that anchor to a place and her patients, she was able to explore romantic relationships and face her fertility and wanting a child head on, she was able to explore how much of herself she could give to another person again after Mohammed died and try another relationship. In turn, she was able to be in a different position when Mina came to live with her.
By Max receiving the kind of selfless love he had never gotten before (from the parts of his story weâve been told), he was finally able to heal, from so much of the stuff heâd been carrying to come to a place where he feels able to match Helenâs energy. To come to a point where heâs able to see himself as a WHOLE person, not just a flawed one- not just a guilty one- not just an overworked or crazy or erratic one. The speech at the end of 3x13 to Lunaâs parents showed just how far heâs come; how much heâs changed and how much his relationship with Helen has changed him. The confidence that he was enough as- is a Max that we had never seen before.
And Helen- naming them- before now, itâs always been Max with his double meanings  and his âI want to build something better for you and Minaâ and âIt helps not to be aloneâ and âI canât do this without youâ, but this time itâs Helen- Helen who is saying âusâ- Helen who is putting them together as a family and is relaxed and comfortable doing so. Helen who isnât simply giving him advice as a friend or listening to him but giving him advice as an anchor- we are here and we are fine and you need to fight for our family because itâs worth it.
I see you
The decon shower. His hand trailing down her neck. Those voicemails. Here they are finally, trying to get into an ADULT relationship. Moving beyond the cute hand holding and lingering looks, to hopefully many kisses, many distractions and many mornings waking up next to each other.
Sharpwin is coming and Iâm ready!

I canât stop thinking about the Superman AU where Kara doesnât get lost in the Phantom Zone so both children are raised by the Kents.
Karaâs ship was set up to teach her English (and possibly other Earth languages) during the trip, so the Kents learn the whole story of Krypton right away. Both kids keep their Kryptonian first names.
Karaâs extremely protective/possessive of Kal at first. She was sent across solar systems to take care of this kid, and itâs hard to step back and let anyone else fill that parent role.
Right away, the Kents notice that Karaâs stronger and faster and more durable than a human, but she doesnât start developing outright superpowers for at least a few years. Kal starts showing signs of it by the time heâs in kindergarten, though extreme powers donât really start to develop until his teenage years.
Karaâs homeschooled for a few years, but she does attend Smallville High for, yes, the socialization. (And to quell some of the rumors about the weird kids the Kents adopted).
The Kents have a swingset thatâs the site of tons of terrifying acrobatic stunts from two children who are developing powers of invulnerability and flight.
Kara never quite loses her Kryptonian accent. In high school, thereâs a running gag where she claims the accent is from more and more ridiculous places. Metropolis. France. Antarctica. Mars. Middle Earth.
(One time someone joked that her accent was from Alderaan, and it hit way too close to home).
(The official story from the Kents is that Kara was adopted from parents who did a lot of traveling and her mixed-up accent was worsened by a mild hearing/speech impairment).
The Kent household is bilingual. The kids are both fluent in Kryptonian, and Martha and Jon made sincere efforts to learn, though theyâll never be really adept. About half of the conversations in the house occur in a pidgin Krypt-lish.
For Karaâs sake, they try to adopt Kryptonian celebrations into their family traditions, but itâs difficult when a good chunk of Kryptonian holidays celebrate celestial events that they can no longer see or family connections that no longer exist.
Kara = Jock Girl. Kal = Nerd Boy.
Karaâs smart, but her early education on a different planet makes it harder to adapt to this worldâs knowledge system, so she doesnât put her focus toward academics.
Sheâs somehow both a tomboy and the girliest possible girl. Sheâll be shoveling manure one minute and buying mascara the next.
Sheâs also got a very practical, no-nonsense personality, but sheâs devoted to her carefully curated selection of stuff animals. She may have made one or two based on memories of Kryptonian animals.
Karaâs on a couple of athletic teams in high school. I could see her being on a dance team because good performance requires her to work in sync with the entire team, so her superpowers donât give her that much of an advantage. And sheâs in volleyball because she has a volleyball girl vibe.
Kalâs more introverted and sheltered (especially with two protective mother figures hovering over him), but he grows up comfortably human while fully acknowledging his Kryptonian heritage. He really does need glasses as a kid, learns to read young, and overall slots comfortably into the role of Friendly Neighborhood Nerd from his early elementary years.
(âWhatâs Kal short for?â people ask him. âKaleidoscopeâ, he replies.)
Both kids are close with both Kents, but Kara has a particularly strong bond with Jonathan while Kal is more similar to Martha.
Kal bonds with Martha over her collection of pulp sci-fi books. (Kara finds their depictions of other worlds too unrealistic). Theyâre also both Star Trek fans--Kal prefers the original series, while Martha prefers Next Gen.
Kara stays on the farm after graduating high school. She still feels a strong duty to stay and care for Kal, and though she wonât say it out loud, she needs to cling to the sense of home that Smallville provides after losing her home planet.
She helps out with the farm work, and also works as a paramedic and/or firefighter. The job serves her caretaker strengths, and also provides a lot of opportunities to use her powers to rush to the rescue. It doesnât take long for the âSmallville Angelâ to become a local cryptid.
Her love interest is a down-home Smallville boy. Possibly a high school sweetheart, possibly someone she meets on the job, whether working alongside him or helping to rescue him. He has a very hands-on job, whether itâs as a firefighter, construction worker, or a farmer.
By the time Kalâs a high school freshman, he takes over the Smallville High paper and transforms it from a sports-scores-and-lunch-menus fluff page into a hard-hitting investigative paper. Within his first few months on the paper, he uncovers an embezzlement scandal at the school.
Kal is far more at home in Smallville than Kara is, but because itâs the only home heâs known, he also feels more of a drive to explore the world outside it. He does some traveling after high school, goes to Metropolis for college, and though he visits Smallville frequently, he never lives there again after leaving.
Kara gets married (to the above-mentioned love interest) around the same time that Kal graduates high school. They settle down in Smallville.
Kara has at least one biological kid, but she also becomes a stepmother/adopted mother. Could be that her love interest is a widower with children from his previous marriage. Maybe they adopt a couple of his brotherâs kids. Maybe they adopt some kids from a rescue situation Kara came across. But I want Kara to have to deal with some of the âYouâre not my real momâ stuff that she put Martha through.
(And itâs even more interesting from the perspective of the kids. When do you tell them? How do they deal with âmy stepmother is a space alien who shoots lasers from her eyesâ?)
Kal takes up hero work in Metropolis, but has a harder time keeping his identity secret with so many eyes around. With his imagination primed by pulp sci-fi, it doesnât take long to come up with the idea of a costumed alter ego. Kara thinks itâs a bit silly, but her heart soars when she sees the costumeâs focal point is the House of El crest, and she loves that it becomes a symbol of hope for this world.
Itâs a big step when Kal brings Lois home to meet the parents, but the real test is when she meets Kara.
âSheâs my big sister. Well, really my cousin. Also kind of my mom.â
âI didnât think you were that kind of hick, Smallville.â
If sheâs being completely honest, Lois is intimidated by the idea of meeting someone with all of Kalâs abilities and a mother-wolf instinct to protect him. But the Kents are intimidated by Kal getting involved with an investigative journalist whoâs the daughter of a military general.
They hit it off great, though, and both sides quickly realize they have nothing to worry about.
Thereâs also a huge Kent extended family that was involved with these kids from the moment that Jon and Martha found spaceships in their cornfield. The Kents are exactly the clan you want at your back when you need to hide two alien kids from the government. Need fake identification and adoption papers? Someone to steer the Men in Black off the trail? The Kents will pitch in with enthusiasm.
Not everyone in the family knows about their abilities or secret identities, but theyâre a close-knit clan anyway. They have a harder time adjusting to having city-gal Lois among their ranks than two space alien kids.
Itâs a crazy, chaotic, blended and adopted family thatâs growing and shifting over the years and always provides a place for Kara and Kal to belong.
#superman#supergirl#this is awesomebutunpractical's fault#i started thinking about kara raised by the kents and then kal decided to show up anyway#kara's not built on anything canon#i'm just building off of teenage girl from an exalted family sent to raise a kid on a farm#but i'm still flashing back to my days watching supergirl's early seasons#the great thing about this franchise is that it's built on so many fragments that there is no canon#and even an au can be just as canon as anything else#i'm sorry this is long#even if no one else cares about this extremely mundane au i'm attached to it

uraraka bakugou and todoroki for the ask game, if three characters isn't too much ><
Ahh I did Ochacko already here!
I can do two I think:
Shouto:
favorite thing about them: His rude speech lol. It doesn't show much in the English translations but seeing other people show in their translations how he technically isn't very respectful when he talks to adults is pretty funny.
least favorite thing about them: Don't have one. I lub him.
favorite line: When he said he wants to have a bowl of hot udon with his big bro <3.
brOTP: Don't have one for him and his classmates but, him and Touya. I need to see their brotherhood happen already. Lol.
OTP: I'm not attached to any ship with him. TodoMomo is cute but at the end of the day I'm mostly indifferent to any ship with him.
nOTP: All of them really. I'm just very indifferent and don't care to see romantic content with him and anyone.
random headcanon: Once Touya gets a new wardrobe at home Shouto is gonna steal and wear his clothes without asking. It's gonna piss Touya off.
unpopular opinion: I don't have one honestly? I think the only *maybe* unpopular opinion is in regards to Touya and saying that I think he needs to return to his family and have a real relationship with Shouto, live with him under the same roof, etc.
song i associate with them: Don't have one, I'm sorry!
favorite picture of them: loooove this one
Bakugo:
favorite thing about them: His awareness and his ability to connect the dots on things. During the whole UA traitor plot, the solo-Deku arc when he figured that AM and Deku were out together and that it was going poorly, when AM had crossed out the fourth OFA user's name and quirk and figured it meant possible bad news for Deku.
least favorite thing about them: Hmm, he's not very likable for the entire first half of the series for me tbh. I mean I LIKE him because I knew where his character was going, but he was not a likable person. Idk, I'd say his explosive anger. He could chill out a bit (still kinda blaming Aoyama after finding out what happened....like, chill).
favorite line: don't have one, haven't paid that much attention to him to get one
brOTP: I've enjoyed watching him and Midoriya get over their hurdles. Their relationship was one of my main investments when I first got into the series. Also, this picture just screams sibling energy:
So I mean, BakuDeku brOTP. Just not romantically.
OTP: Listen....I have one. And it's the person I think may actually be Bakugo's endgame (couple wise, since.....everyone will likely get paired off, it's just how it is). But I will not say it until closer to the end of the series. I am so sorry but this will die with me unless it becomes canon LOL. It's a girl btw.
nOTP: Aside from the one I have in mind, I don't really like any Bakugo ships at all. So I guess all of them.
random headcanon: At the end, he and Tomura's personalities are gonna clash and they're gonna piss each other off a lot. Like....I can just see it so clearly, and Midoriya is in the middle like àČ _àČ
unpopular opinion: He is not an innocent angel who did no wrong, nor is he the devil who deserves no mercy. There doesn't seem to be any in-between for him in the fandom. Also, imo his redemption arc has been well-done. The way he was Put Through Itâąïž over and over again as a result of his god awful behavior and the way it slowly led to him chilling the fuck out, I think it all tied together nicely!
song i associate with them: Eh, none. I don't think about him that much (he's one of my top favs but still)
favorite picture of them: this one where he has the same look my dogs do when they spot a squirrel WAY out of their reach

Prompt 39: Death wants you to be terrified. But the scariest thing is wanting death.
13th Doctor x female curvy reader
Warnings: mentions of suicidal thoughts, alcohol and drug abuse, domestic abuse, fat phobia
I'm sorry for this. Its really depressing and I've been hesitant on letting you guys see it but I kinda like how it's written. I've made the abuser gender neutral as females can also be abusive. I promise the next one will be much happier!
"Come on (y/n), you can make it! Just jump across and reach for my hand. I promise you won't fall." The Doctors voice echoes across the widening canyon. If you looked down, you would only see pitch black. You didn't know how long you'd fall. Maybe this would be the perfect time to just go for it. Its not like you'd matter, you're only slowing the team down as is.
They wouldn't even be in this mess if you didn't slip and hit the world shattering drill, turning it on full blast. Unfortunately, you smashed the button making it unable to turn it off. Of course the only way you'd be able to turn it off is to actually go towards it. Everyone in the room screamed at you and some raised their tentacles to attack you if the Doctor didn't step in front of you. You know the Doctor noticed you flinching and your eyes gloss over and noticed you bracing for the impact.
You learned over the years to just accept your fate. You can't run from anyone when you weighed this much. You couldn't hide either, which often left you to just accept what was coming and hope nothing broke. Bruises were always easy to cover and so were any cuts but broken bones, that was always on display and you'd have to break your number one rule: never lie. You hated lying. The truth always comes out anyway so why hide it? If you hide it, you get punished worse anyway so why bother?
If you jumped and actually went with the team, you'd get questioned about earlier and about hesitating at jumping. But if you fell, would the Doctor miss you? As much as you hated to admit it, you were absolutely in love with the adorable alien. Why did you hate to admit it? Because she was a goddess and you were a waste of skin and bones. You weren't skinny and you didn't fit in with the team at all. You were only here out of pity.
You remember when you first met the team. You were the only person alive when they searched underneath the hotel. Even the spiders didn't want you. You were at the hotel because you heard about killer spiders and you wanted an out. You could never do it or something would come up stopping you from ending all your misery. You were the complete opposite of the Doctor. She was so brave and said whatever she wanted and didn't really care for the consequences.
You focused on the Doctors sparkling eyes. Despite the situation, she still sparkled with hope and encouragement. She wasn't upset with you. You really wished she was. This would be such an easier decision to make. Your head was pounding and your heart was going faster than her two hearts. Did you even want her upset? You couldn't tell, your head was spinning wildly, one thought going to another without a chance to process the last one.
You had come to a clear decision. You ran back and let momentum do its thing as your feet left the muddy gravel. You felt so free as you glided in the air for a few seconds. It was the most beautiful feeling. No punishment, no tears before going to sleep and no terror of going back home. Just you and gravity.
Then with a clearer mind you regretted your choice. You were horrified. You weren't ready. It wasn't time yet. Graham can't lose you. He'd only recently lost his wife. He'd feel the same as you and that thought terrified you. He'd survived cancer and gained himself a new family. He can't be like you. Ryan needed him, wether he was willing to admit that or not.
Suddenly you panicked and last minute reached your hand out hoping you'd grab something. Anything. You felt a soft warm object and latched on for dear life. You were then lifted up and onto soil. You focused on your breathing a moment and waited for your heart to calm down. You looked up and saw what, or rather who, saved you. You shouldn't have been so surprised to see the Doctors worried face above yours. She gave you a questioning look, knowing the question, you nodded your head and she straightened herself and helped you up.
"That was great (n/n)! So brave of you! Let's go gang, we've gotta turn this drill off before it splits the planet in half!" She shouted as she ran forward, seemingly knowing the way. She didn't let go of your hand until you reached the drill about 10 minutes later. You couldn't help the blushthat formed on your cheeks. The Doctor quickly opened a panel on the side of the drill.
The drill was massive, bigger than the Eiffel Tower and that what was on surface level, it went down much deeper that it had reached halfway to the liquid nitrogen that ran in this cold planet where our magma centre would be. The drill itself was purple and spherical. The panel box was the size of a human head which was about the size of the civilisations sucker pads. Inside were 3 buttons and 1 lever. You needed to type the pattern that would gain the access to the drill and force stop. If it goes wrong, it speeds up rendering this planet uninhabitable.
You watched as the Doctor quickly typed the pattern in. Red,blue, red, red, red, blue, black, black, blue. That was the pattern she quickly pressed in and held the lever down for 10 seconds. Soon the drill came to a halt and the planet was peaceful once again. You all let out a sigh of relief as it stopped.
You made your way back to the chief of the race and explained that they should dismantle and never use that drill again unless they plan to empty the panet of everything it has within. He quickly agreed and the fam made their way back to the TARDIS.
As soon as tye TARDIS was parked on the edge of your solar system, you got into your comfy clothes ready to nap or maybe play a few games to slow your adrenaline until you were tired enough for a full nights rest. You played a few rounds of uno and some poker where you used some bits of metal instead of chips. Eventually everyone had left except you and the Doctor.
You made your way to the doors of the ship and settled down just watching the stars in front of you. If the sentient machine hadn't already been aware of your darkest thought, you would have jumped out there and been amongst them. Just floating eventually turning to nothing but bones drifting, maybe to never be found. All the sights you've seen and yet this is where you were the most impressed. This was your home, your galaxy and because of all the light pollution, you had never been fully aware of how many neighbours you had because you had been literally blind. This was only stuff captured and faked and now, it's forever in your mind.
You heard movement and a shuffle next you. You knew who it was because she was the only other person awake and you knew she was going to ask and not let it drop until you tell her truth. And you were going to give her it but that doesn't mean you were ready to do so but you had to, someone had to know. Maybe you wanted help or maybe just someone to listen and know everything making you mentally naked in front of them.
The Doctor waited a few moments. She was figuring out how to word it without sounding horrible. "Is everything alright at home?" She asked her voice laced with genuine concern. "Sorry if this sounds a bit abrupt but let me explain. You've been really weird lately. You hardly speak and when you its with as few words as possible, you keep going elsewhere mentally and Rassilion forbid anyone getting angry with you! I also noticed how you hesitated today when jumping and I saw your worry and panic when you jumped. I think I know but I can't help you if you don't at least tell me what is going on! And don't change the subject or anything, just answer me please. I lo-. I can't lose you too." Her voice raised a little as she panicked just speaking about it. Halfway through she grabbed both of your hands and continued her speech.
You looked deep into her eyes for any sign of a lie but there wasn't one. Just like at the canyon, her eyes showed nothing but love. Maybe you should tell her, just her. No Yaz, no Graham and no Ryan. Just you, The Doctor and the TARDIS. You looked away for a moment as you collected your thoughts. However, as you opened your mouth and tried to speak, you found no voice. You couldn't tell her about them. Lord knows what she's capable of. But you've been looking for an out for so damn long. Maybe this is it. She's your out, no death involved.
You walked towards a panel in the console and pushed your hands inside and focused. You focused on the worst time it happened. You concentrated on the fear and everything attached. You couldn't tell her, but you could show her. The TARDIS disappeared into the vortex but didn't seem so sure on landing. She was picking it all up, she felt everything you did and she did not like going. "Please baby girl, I need her to know. I need help but I can't tell her. She's my only out that doesn't involve death and that terrifies me! Please. I understand your hesitation but she needs to see." You spoke mentally to the sentient blue box. She made a sad sound as she gently landed in the moment.
The Doctor looked at you bewildered. Her eyes were wide and her mouth agape. You walked up to her and grabbed her hand reassuringly. You led her to the doors that separated her from your darkest secret. You took a deep breath and slowly opened the door.
You appeared to be in the basement of your house. You walked up the stairs and took her to a storage room where she could see it happen. You sat in silence for a few minutes only the sounds of breathing and your heartbeat could be heard.
You knew this day off by heart, it plagued your nightmares often. It all started to sweet and went sour so quickly. At this time you were currently on your way back from doing your weekly shop to Tescos making sure you didn't forget their vodka and gin on your way to pay. Thankfully, the shop was only 10 minuets away and you doubted that the TARDIS would make you wait longer than nessacary. Just as the Doctor opened her mouth to speak the door opened and in walked an 18 year old you.
You set the bags down and started sorting the items into their new places. The canned foods go in the cupboard and the meat goes into the fridge. There were loads of food and stuff to go through and place properly. After you placed the last can of baked beans into the cupboard, the door swung open, nearly breaking the door.
They came home from their dealers place early. They stunk of weed and alcohol and had a little white powder around their nose. They looked like they had a good time until they had to come home. It was their dealers birthday so he was having a brothel themed party meaning there were strippers, pole dancers and prostitutes as well. The dealer was a rich guy who practically ran this city. The cops couldn't do anything as he could always bail himself out of jail.
They looked you in your comfy clothes and scoffed. They looked angry. "Why aren't you in your normal clothes babes? I thought I told you to throw away all of that shit. Come on now. Don't tell me I wasted all my well earned money on those clothes I specifically chose for you?"
You shuddered, both in the past and now except now they only made bile rise into your throat. You were so young and vulnerable. Now you know better.
The past you quickly scampered off to get changed. After only 5 minutes you reappeared in what was sexy school girl. The blue miniskirt covered less than most underwear so you were forced to wear a thong. The shirt was a bralet that barely covered your nipples. Your hair was in pigtails and you wore thigh highs. The sight made you silently sick in your mouth. You looked pathetic and weak.
You looked at them expectingly. You were waiting for your next order from them. They seemed to drool at the sight of you. "That's better babes. Why didn't you go shopping like that? Show the world your fat ugly figure? I want you to walk out there and see that no one else wants you but here I am, loving you. I am the only one who will ever like you in the way we have now. Your lucky I've had some fun tonight. All I want is my vodka and a new blunt darling"
You quickly went and grabbed their stuff and walked towards them as they settled in front of the TV. They turned the TV on and put Love Island on. How you hated that show. It made you feel bad for being the size you are. The women on there were beautiful but you also knew that, that kind of beauty costs money. So while your partner had fun watching the show for the romance, you watched it to spot what part of them was bought and what was real. Almost all the women had fake teeth and breasts. You hated how your partner would make snide comments on how they looked compared to you.
"You should be looking like Becky ya know. Beautiful teeth, big perky tits and a fucking great ass. What do you have? Flabs!" And there was the first comment of the day. The first of 30, you counted.
"Yeah well you are fucking broke so I can't look like fucking fake ass Becky or the others!" You thought. Then the Doctor gave you a look of shock and pity and then you realised you said that aloud. Not loud enough for them to hear you but enough for the Doctor.
"Make yourself fucking useful and make me some dinner. I fancy a steak and chips." They ordered as you got up and waddled over to the kitchen. A few minutes in you realised you put too much oil in the pan for the steak but the steak was already in and cooking quick. So quick that it started to smoke just a little bit. You tried blowing it away from them before they realised that you fucked up their dinner but ut was too late. They were already on their feet a marching towards you.
"I'm so sorry. I accidentally poured too much oil in. I'm so sorry. I have a spare steak, you can have my meal for tonight, I could do with skipping a meal anyways, helps me lose weight!" Past you was panicked and present you wasn't much better. Even though you were safe from them, they still made you uneasy. If you were to ever see them again, you'd freeze. They made your blood run cold. Even their voice sent unpleasant shivers down your spine.
"You better make me another steak but I still have to punish you. You fucked up, a lesson needs to be learnt." They said scarily politely. They grabbed your left arm and marched you towards the sink. They also grabbed the burning pan and pinned you so you had no escape as they poured the boiling oil onto your skin. You knew not to scream do you bit into your other arm knowing a bite out of it is better than causing more punishments for screaming.
When they were done left to watch the TV and you knew what that meant. You had to cook the spare steak and make there meal before you can get proper treatment at the hospital. Through your tears of agony, you quickly ran your burnt and bleeding arm under the cold water of the sink. You bit deeper into your other arm and tasting blood, but thay didn't stop you until the left one had cooled down. Then you got an old shirt, ripped 2 pieces of fabric off and wrapped them around both arm Injuries. You then continued their meal.
Once they had the meal they kicked you and punched you in the stomach because the chips were slightly cold and then they drove you to the hospital as they promised. When you had left you didn't realise you had been crying until a drop fell on your arm. You walked out of the storage room and sat on the sofa, turning the TV off.
The Doctor looked shocked for a moment before walking over and kneeling in front of you. The Doctor went silent for a moment. Before she could speak, you decided to speak first.
"I couldn't tell you because I couldn't think if a nice way of telling you. I didn't want to appear weak to you." You cried as your voice cracked in the middle due to the tears and the strain. The Doctor looked at you in pity and disappointment.
"This does not make you weak. Being abused does not make you weak. Because being abused is like being tortured by someone who supposed to love you and cherish you. They are meant to protect you from danger not be the danger. I would never hurt you. I know that I put you in risky situations but believe me, I would never intentionally put you in danger. You mean too much to me" The Doctor softly spoke with tears making a little river down her soft cheeks and onto your black carpet below.
"Before I met them, I was like you or Yaz. I was so happy at everything. Very little could bring me down. But I met them and started dating them and suddenly, my world of sunshine faded to grey. There was no light. I wanted to die Doctor. When you found me at that spider hotel, I wanted to be free from them as I couldn't do it. I can't because they'd kill me. I don't want to be alive whilst I'm with them. I have so many scars from either them or me trying to end my own life and that the scariest thing. Death wants us to be terrified but wanting to die is so much more terrifying Doctor, I know that." You cried as you emptied all you could to her. The Doctor was silent for a moment, taking in everything you said. Waves of emotion flashed through her, anger, sadness, pity and something you couldn't quite place.
"You said wanted. That's past tense. You said wanted to die. What changed? What made you want to live?"
"You did. You saved me from the spiders. You gave me a temporary out of the relationship for a while. You made me smile for the first time in 3 years! You made me laugh. The world of grey is now full of sunshine and rainbows Doctor. You also saved me today. When I jumped across that canyon, I jumped to end my life. I made a mistake that nearly ended a planet! If I wasn't so fat and clumsy maybe i-"
"Don't you dare say that! You are not fat (n/n). Yes you have more plush to your body but you are not fat. I hate that word. Its such a nasty word. You are gorgeous, amazing and so brilliant. You can't see what I see and I really wished you could for just one moment. You are worthy of being loved and cared for. You are precious, rare, one of a kind. I've never met anyone like you. There's always some skinny, fake bodied and caked up women but there's no one with as much natural beauty as you! Let's get back to the TARDIS and we'll talk more when looking at the stars because I can see that being here isn't doing you any favours" The Doctor spoke with such passion that you started to believe that her words held more than those of a supporting friend would.
Once the TARDIS was parked in the Milky Way you settled by the door once again and found yourself accompanied by the sweet alien. You both sat there for a moment just content with wrapping your heads around what's just happened. You looked over to the blonde and noticed how the stars made her glow in such an ethereal way that you felt almost compelled to worship her. Maybe you should after everything she's done for you. Her eyes sparkled with si many emotions from the past senario.
"Are you still with them?"
"Why do you think I never left this place? I mean even if could, I wouldn't want to but it's mainly because if I go back home, I'll come back with more injuries. I feel safer with you. You are my sunshine and rainbows and they are my storm clouds. Whilst I'm here, I'm alive and mostly unbroken. Whilst I'm there, I'm as alive as a puppet and severely broken. I can't leave, not on my own anyway."
The Doctor looked at you in thought. "The starlight compliments you. You look so pretty and almost angelic. I just wish they never hurt my angel. My innocent angel had broken wings and I'm going to fix what the Devil broke, I promise. Just hold on, I'm going to take us somewhere."
You held the nearest crystal as the TARDIS transported you somewhere but it seemed like the sentient machine was determined to take you there as quick as she could. As you opened the doors you noticed a familiar smell of weed mixed with alcohol. You heard the familiar tune of Love Island and knew exactly where you were. You were home. The Doctor saw your hesitation and whispered softly, "I want you to pack everything you want. I've written a note for them to find. I'm going to put it on the bed. If they notice you scream for me and I'll be there. They will not hurt you much, hopefully not at all. I just need to do something in the TARDIS before I help you." She turned and left into the TARDIS and disappeared down a corridor.
The atmosphere sent chills down your spine and you were frozen. The TARDIS seemed to notice and words of encouragement were sent into your head which helped you move towards your bedroom. You quickly buy quietly opend your suitcase and started to fill it with clothing and hygiene products. As you entered the bathroom a bottle of their shampoo fell into the tub giving you away. You knew you only had so long before they came in and hurt you so you closed the door and barricaded it with whatever you could.
As you pushed the last cabinet to the pile they roared through the wooden door. "Let me in you fat dumb bitch. You've been gone for 3 weeks and you've got some balls coming back! You're lucky I haven't burned all your shit! Where have you been?"
Your heart ran at an extremely fast pace nd you knew only one person could help you now. And so you screamed her name so loud it hurt your throat bit that didn't stop you. You screamed until you heard talking. You couldn't understand what was said but suddenly a thud was heard and then silence.
"Hey Starlight! It's only me. I've taken care of them. They're not dead but in a venishion aikido. They can't move, they're paralysed. You can come out and finish packing"
You moved everything out of the door and opened it to a view you expected. The Doctor with 2 fingers to their pulse point on their neck. The Doctor smiled at when they saw you. You finished packing and zipped the bag up. Then Yaz walked in with her police uniform on and arrested them for domestic violence and many other things. Now you understood why The Doctor left, it was to get Yaz as a back up option to completely take them out of your life.
The Doctor helped open doors for you as you got your room and you set the suitcase to one side to empty another day. You both sat down on your bed. The sound was filled with nothing but 2 lifeforms breathing and the TARDIS faint buzzing. You two stayed like this, staring into each other, trying to read the others emotions. But we all know what The Doctor is like, she can't stay silent for long.
"I had to save you because as long as you were with them, you weren't ever going to be truly happy. I didn't want my big bright star to turn into a black hole, I wanted her to be a supernova. My Starlight deserves to be happy."
"You keep saying my Doctor. And you asked if I was still with them and then when I basically said yes, you quickly, as in a rush, sent us home so I could leave them. You keep saying all these things about me. You held my hand from the canyon to the drill. You are always the first to check on me and you always make sure I'm OK first even if I'm the farthest person from you! Doctor, be honest, I don't want any more bullshit. Doctor why?" You spoke softly but with determination. The Doctor blushed and shifted her gaze to the stars and quietly gulped. She knew this day would come. The day her secret was revealed. And she dreaded her answer and she dreaded your reaction. And whilst she figured out what to say, you already knew the answer.
You gently grabbed her chin and made her look at you. Once her gaze caught yours, you smiled and placed your lips to her soft ones. Quickly she caught up and kissed you back with all the love and passion she could muster. She wanted to relay that she did love you and that she would do exactly as she said earlier, she would cherish you.
As for you, you smiled. You finally had an out that didn't end in death but instead ended with the same love that you yearned for, for years.

HASO, âThe Harbinger.â
It was nice to finally write this piece, and sorry for not posting for the last two days. With my work schedule, weekends for me sometimes fall in the middle of the week.Â
Hope you all have a great day!
âThis is going to be a disaster.â
Overhead the UN flag snapped in the wind desperately trying to cool their bodies from the beating Sun.
âSo you say, but I disagree.â She glanced down at the crew roster in her hands, âThe boy really did his research, asked for people specifically, all the way down to the marines. A lot of them crewed the original enterprise. If this were a deck of cards I would say he has a royal flush.â
The other Admiral grunted but didnât argue with her.
The man had never personally be into space, never even visited mars, so he didnât pretend to know more than she did, while simultaneously being skeptical. She could deal with that, but at least he respected her enough to have trusted her decision.
Together they stood on the tarmac of the launch field.
The new ship wasnât there as it had been built completely off-earth at Europa station considering how massive the ship was and how unwieldy the thing would have been in atmosphere. However, someone had taken the time to throw up some projectors, showing the view at Europa station as the last finishing touches were added, and cargo was loaded into her hull.
Across the Tarmac, they watched as Captain Vir stepped from UNSC headquarters and out onto the pavement. If the boy had any more bounce in his step he might as well have been skipping as he made his way up to the lectern and sat just off to the side on a metal folding chair. There were still other speeches to be given, those being the UN president, a few other major officials, and a broadcast by the GA, who were very pleased with their decision despite continuous grumbling by UNSC officers who still thought the boy was going to screw it all up.
The other admiral turned his head to look at her, âjust look at him, heâs like a puppy, probably gonna piss all over himself with excitement.â
Admiral Kelly looked over to where he was sitting, on the edge of his folding chair, hands casper before him and one leg bouncing like a jackhammer against the pavement. There WAS something surprisingly doglike about him, âOh give him a chance. I was just as excited as he was to fly my first mission, the difference was I didnât show it. You can hardly blame a man for wearing his heart on his sleeve.â âMore like smack in the middle of his forehead.â
âGive him a chance.â
He glanced over at her, âYouâre fond of him.â
âHe makes it easy to be fond of him.âÂ
The UNp resident finished with his speech and stepped down from the lectern.
âOh here we go, what is it gonna be, a cheesy joke and a Star Wars reference.â
She glanced at him from over her shoulder, âhow do you know about star wars?â
He blushed only slightly, âI have a son who is into that old vintage stuff.â
âMmmmm Hmmm.â She said pointedly before turning back to Captain Vir as he stood from his seat. She watched as he took a deep breath to calm himself, and then walked slowly up to the lectern his back straight, his expression serious
She smiled as she watched her friendâs eyebrow raise in surprise.
âJust over a year ago I sat in a VA hospital wondering if I was ever going to walk again, Eight months ago, I wondered if I was going to survive, six months ago I wondered if I would ever fully recover, and one week ago I wondered what kind of drugs the brass was smoking to offer me this job.â He smiled slightly as the crowd laughed, âAll joking aside, I am privileged and honored to have been chosen. I know there has been a lot of controversy behind my appointment to this position, and Ithink Admiral kelly especially for her faith in me. I am not going to delude myself into thinking I can make any promises about whether or not I will succeed, but I can promise that I will do my best, which is as much as any man can promise considering such uncertain circumstances.â
He glanced down at his papers as the wind tugged at his cap, âAs we speak the last cargo is being loaded onto my ship in preparation for our first deployment into the stars. I have thought long and hard in preparation, and for a proper name for the ship that will help usher in a new age of cooperation and companionship between us and extraterrestrial life. Sleepless nights, hours with the Oxford dictionary, and plenty of inappropriate suggestions from family membersâŠâ He paused there to allow a light chuckle from the crowd, âHours and hours of thought and planning,...â he paused smiling ruefully, âI actually found the perfect word while out with my dad searching for new tractor parts. You know how these companies are, they have to make their tractor parts sound really manly or theyâre worried we wonât buy them.â There was another slight chuckle from the crowd, âAnyway, the word I found means â something that comes before and that shows what will follow in the future, a herald, a precursor or a forerunner. The word I chose and the name that my ship will take is Harbinger, a herald of things to come, the forerunner of humanityâs expansion into the stars and our alliance with alien races. She will be a harbinger, but a harbinger of good things to come. The crew of the harbinger will uphold all the values and oaths of the UNSC, protect, when others cannot, sacrifice when others will not, and fight when others actively rise against those that we protect.â
He went quiet as the un flag snapped behind him in the breeze.
âI give my soul to this endeavor with every fiber of my being, and I ask for my crew to do the same.â
***
Europa station 1200 hours EST
UNSC identification badges must be worn at all times.
âNow remember, sheâs got six main engines, the back one is the most powerful but make sure to use your left and right for maneuvering to keep power. Never fire the warp core andt the engines at the same time unless you want to end up a thousand light years away and by all that is holy try very hard not to initiate that shatter sequence if you can help it.â Europa station director, and lead commander on the build team led him across the open deck and towards the open cargo ramp.
Adamâs eyes were wide, stuck open with awe as they approached the ship. He had seen her only once in her full glory, having asked the shuttle to take a quick tour around the Europa station so he could get a good look at her where she was docked
By all rights she was as aesthetically pleasing as a cinder block, but he thought she was beautiful all the same.
The man pulled him to a halt waving over another figure who had, up till that point, been busy shouting orders to a group of grey jumpsuits people who scrambled to do her bidding.
She stopped yelling at them long enough to turn and walk over.
âCaptain, I would like to introduce you to your Chief Engineering officer Narobi. She knows everything there is to know about this ship. If she so much as suspects something might go wrong, you listen to her, no dumbass macho man act, and no blowing her off because she's probably more important than you will be when it comes to keeping this beauty in the air.â
She was tall just an inch or two shorter than him with dark skin and hard brown eyes. She wore one of those grey jumpsuits of the other engineers, but had wrapped a bright orange and red scarf around her head, tied up in a decorative knot. She was probably the most beautiful woman he had ever seen though the look on her face made it very clear that she wasnât the type to hold such things at a high priority. Looking into her cold hard eyes he had no doubt that she was ready and willing to brain him with a pipe if he ever deserved it.
Adam held out a hand to her, âA pleasure to meet you-â
She took his hand, her grip as a calloused vice against his. He hadnât expected that and grimaced as her fingers crushed his, she leaned in very close, âYou see that ship right there, captain.â
He squeaked out a response, suddenly afraid for the safety of his bones.
âThat right there, that ship, is mine. You may pilot my ship, and I will even allow you to talk about her like sheâs yours, but at the end of the day she is mine. I take care of her, I fix her when she is sick and I keep her in the air. You treat MY ship well and we wonât have any problems.â
She squeezed again just a little harder before letting go, and he took back his hand waving it slightly to disperse the apin, âGot it, she is your baby.â He grinned at her, âStrong grip you have there, though Iâd like to keep my hands for flying next time if thatâs cool.â
His smile seemed to throw her off guard and she frowned slightly, âIâŠ. Iâm sorry I was sort of expectingâŠ.â
âSome raging asshole on a power tripâŠ.?â
âSomething like that.â
âItâs ok, I get it.â he flexed his fingers and waved at her as he was carted off. She stared after him eyes narrowed slightly and a look of confusion on her face .
That boy is either a real idiot or a scapegoat for the UNSC who thinks heâs going to fail
Adam stepped onto the ramp before him and headed up into the interior of the ship wide eyed like a child and bouncing with excitement. When he reached the top of the ramp he looked around watching as men and women hurried to stow cargo and do last minute checkers to see if everything was strapped down.
Turning he found a group of marines standing in one corner receiving orders on how to help. One of the marines turned, and they locked eyes.
The marineâs face was split with a matching grin, and he broke formation to race across the floor. Adam did the same, and by the end they had the entire cargo holdâs attention as they met in an embrace each of them trying to squeeze the life out of the other. Eventually Adam used his superior height to pick up the other marine and spin him around once before setting him down.
âI knew you loved me but I didnât know it was that much.:â
Adam grinned, âramirez you son of a bitch. I missed you.â
âI can hardly blame you.â He winked a grin splitting his handsome face, âLast time I saw you, you were on a shuttle to Anin.â His smile died slightly, âI heard about what happened, Iâm sorry to hearâŠ.â He glanced down at Adamâs leg before a smile lit up his face again, âOn the brightside, youâre a cyborg now, can I see?â
Adam was surprised, not entirely used to people being so bold about wanting to see the prosthetic but, well it made him feel better, and he liked the idea of being a cyborg, so he pulled up his pant leg to give the marine a good look.
âDamn! How far does that go?â
âBuy me dinner and find out.â
The marine looked up, grinned and laughed, âWow look at you. Not even blushing either you raging prude.â
âI only blush when Iâm attracted to people.â
âOuch, rude.â
Adam grinned and patted Ramirez on the shoulder, âI am glad you took my offer.â
âGlad to receive it. Theyâve had me sitting on my ass over at fort Georga for the past year, and man being a marine is a lot less fun when you arenât out being abducted by aliens.â
âThat I can understand. Anyway, I gotta get up to the bridge, but Iâll catch up with you later, alright.â
âLater then.â The marine jogged off and he turned back to see some of the officers staring at him. He just shrugged, smiled and allowed them to lead him up and onto the bridge. The moment he stepped in was like, like nothing he could have ever dreamed. The station was facing towards jupiter, and glowing light from her swirling surface filtered in on the command center seats, and the captainâs chair was placed high above it.
It took every fiber of his being not to jump up and down squealing like a child. Even so he couldnt stop the stupid little dance that led him over to the chair. He could still sense the others staring at him, but he didnât much care, sliding into the seat and feeling a warm rush of pure joy shooting through him like fire.
He leaned back in his seat.
Then he reached into the little pocket at the front fo his uniform and pulled out the small notebook there.
âPreflight!â
The officers hurried to their stations, and watching them rush at his words sent another thrill through him.
EnginesÂ
Warp core
Crew
CargoÂ
He rubbed his hands as they were almost done, âAnd one last and most important part of the preflight.â
They all turned to look at him, as he scrolled through his downloaded playlist, âYou canât just launch a ship without some epic tunes. My life didnât come with a preset soundtrack so I guess I have to make my own.â They stared at him, but he just grinned and turned on his pre picked music selection. It had been difficult to chose, but he had finally made a decision.
The crew shifted almost nervously as they looked back and forth between each other unsure if they wanted to be a crew under this lunatic.
Adam engaged the microphone for the rest of the ship, âAlright Ladies, gentlemen andâŠ. marines , welcome to the Harbinger, please keep your hands and feet inside the car for the duration of the trip, donât throw marshmallows at neutron stars and no playing golf out the airlock. Next destination, Andromeda.â He let go of the announcement button and sat back in his seat.
âHarbinger ready for launch in TenâŠâ He engaged the countdown, and the crew rushed to their positions. He felt the rumbling of the engines as they engaged below him, and took control of the manual drive as the ankers were disengaged from his ship. There was a sharp thud as they disengaged from the airlock.
He slowly adjusted their rotating engines.

The ships engines fired, and he took control of the ship, gently maneuvering her away from Europa with all the skill and finesse of an eagle riding an updraft.
He pressed the button to call down to the engine room.
âCaptain Vir calling for report.â
Nairobiâs voice came over the intercom, âSheâs practically singing, Captain.â
âThatâs what I like to hear.â
He let the com drop, âEngage warp core.â
Europa station was already receding into the backdrop against the massive glowing orb of jupiter.â
âHow far?â
âSafe warp distance approaching in in tenâŠâ
He flipped up the switch on his chair, and waited for the count.
Their navigator turned to look at him and gave a thumbs up. At that moment he shut off the engines, and flipped the switch for warp following the targeting directory and input.
The entire crew braced themselves for warp, many of them remembering what it had felt like the first time.
Luckily for them it was a long warp, so it wouldnât be so instantaneous.
Adamâs eyes went wide as he watched the stars bend around them. His teeth flashed white.
He had a good feeling about this.

Sideburn Squad + June Headcanons
(Under the break, because thereâs a lot.)
All
Lu Ten have been friends since they were children. Lu Ten was 5 and Zhao was 7 when they first met and became friends at the Royal Fire Nation Academy for Boys.
Zhao became friends with Cadet Jee when he joined the military at 18. At that point, Jee was 3 years his senior at 21, though he had joined only the year before. They met in firebending training, where Zhao had already been moved up in level by the second day under Admiral Jeong Jeongâs appraising eye.
Zhao is a much better firebender, but Jee absolutely demolished him at pai sho. And poker. And mahjong. And any game, really.
Lu Ten remains in the palace until he turns 18 but at 17 he meets a young bounty hunter of the same age at a bar he snuck out to. He arm wrestles her (loses) and challenges her to a drinking contest (loses again) before deciding to acquire a second best friend.
At 18, Lu Ten is assigned to the same training camp as Zhao (which is very nice for the two young lovers) and, well, if a bounty hunter is found in the neighbouring townâs inn more often than not, whoâll complain?
Lu Ten becomes fast friends with Jee (who is now 23 and very much feeling Too Old For This Shit) after a few games of pai sho. Jee and June enjoy having company while Zhao and Lu Ten are doing their disgusting couple thing.
Lu Ten
Lu Ten loves to paint and paints portraits of each of his friends for their birthday, along with whatever other obnoxiously expensive gift he gives them.
Zhaoâs depicts him in some, er, rather passionate situations. (Their friends see one with him doing firebending training in the middle of a kick. The other one is given in private and leaves him a blushing, stuttering mess). He also receives a book of poetry written in the Water Tribes, something thatâs definitely banned in the Fire Nation.
Jeeâs depicts him deep in thought, sat at a pai sho board with a cup of coffee steaming in his left hand. He receives a bag of very high quality coffee (wait, wasnât this type only grown in Air Nomad temples at very high altitudes?).
Juneâs depicts her with a slight smirk on her lips as she let a man think for a moment that he was winning their arm wrestle. She receives Earth Kingdom perfume of the highest quality (and if her arms shake as she takes it, remembering faint memories of a noblewoman holding her to her chest, Lu Ten doesnât mention it). She makes a remark about Nyla hating perfume but she doesnât reject it.
Lu Ten is also fiercely loyal and protective of his friends. Heâs the first to rise and physically put himself between them and the threat, fire curling around his fingers as he restrains himself from clenching them. He never throws the first punch (his father taught him better than that), but he isnât above using his sharp tongue to make them throw it (Azula may have been encouraged by her father, but she looked up to her older cousin as much as Zuko did).
He also acts as an older brother figure to June specifically, despite being the same age as her. No one is good enough for his bounty hunter adoptive little sister, except maybe... maybe someone he trusts.
Zhao
Zhao is a poet and it surprises everyone and no one. Strangers, should they somehow find out, cannot imagine it. His friends canât imagine him not constantly pouring over books of poetry, scrawling his own in the corner of tactical notes, and quoting it endlessly in conversation and impassioned speeches. Thus, theyâre also unsurprised to find out that he has a set of poems (some from the greats, some from smaller poets, even some of his own) dedicated to each of them. Not only their surface personalities (Lu Ten, brave and loyal. Jee, tired and always watching. June, cunning and sharp.) but who they are underneath (Lu Ten, crying at his first kill. And his second. And his third. Jee, losing all composure the moment someone smelling of sake grabs Juneâs wrist, a hand leaving a pinkâ mild but threateningâ burn on their throat. June, curled tightly up to Nyla after a rough day, hair always gelled in front of the side of her face).
He isnât protective, not in the way his friends are. In the face of danger head on he shrinks back. But he is vindictive and more than friendly with the concept of revenge. He sees the way an up and coming lieutenant eyes his Lu Ten greedily and braves his feat of ladypedes to fill the lieutenantâs bedroll with them on their next expedition. A commander yells at Jee and lunges fast enough to make him flinch and oh no, did his house really burn down overnight with all his gold stolen? He didnât know he lived so close to base. Every man that brushes up against June a little too long finds his coin purse mysteriously missing by the end of the night.
Jee
Jee is quiet and has the patience of a saint, most days. But even he can only stand babysitting royalty in silence so long. So what if heâs the one that sneaks alcohol onto base and drags his friends into the storerooms, drinking the two younger men under the table? They need their egos a little beaten and Jee needs a drink.
As the oldest, and also the only member from complete peasantry, Jee has to teach his friends a lot of basic skills.
How Lu Ten didnât even know how to make his bed in the barracks properly, Jee didnât know, but he taught him anyway. He didnât laugh at him, he just guided his hands into making the crisp fourth-five degree angles the inspector wanted.
He taught Zhao how to throw a proper punch (no, not like that. Sure, the form is perfect for firebending and for martial arts, but if you want to really win a brawl you have to do it like this). The boy was a little too obsessed with honour for his liking. He understood the status that being born âhonourlessâ gave him, but he was from the lowest of the low. They didnât care for honour, they cared about survival.
June is most similar to him, but he sees the nobility in her facial structure and the way she doesnât hesitate to spend most of her money on drinks. She may work for it, but sheâs never known the ache of an empty stomach. Still, he teaches her how to barter (no, not threaten, barter) and how to find the best cut of meat for Nyla. The shirshu takes a shine to him almost immediately.
He may be the Dad Friend (he rejects the title verbally and yet wears it with pride), but he isnât the first to jump in their defence at the slightest insult. He only reacts when he sees something truly dangerous, even if he knows his friends can handle themselves. And if heâs quicker to lash out on drunks that touch one of his friends, they donât comment.
June
June proudly proclaims herself the primary holder of the group brain cell. She spends the least time with the rest of them, but sheâs also uncannily perceptive. She sees the way the already tipsy teenager held himself with a straight spine and clothes made of a little too fine of fabric. She sees the way he leans in at the slightest hint of friendship and she canât help herself from doing the same. She recognizes the way Zhaoâs eyes glint whenever someone insinuates that heâs inferior, even if he bows his head as a subordinate. She watches from the top of a building she shouldnât be on as he chases Jeong Jeong like an eager child, desperate for approval and love. She makes eye contact with Jee, the only one that sees her watching, and something like an agreement passes between them.
She takes her bounties all while she hangs around the training camp. Itâs longer than sheâs stayed in one place since she was just a child and her life was a lot more stable. She takes her first life when someone confuses bounty hunter with assassin and tries to pay her a near boatload for her Princeâs life (she takes their gold too. She isnât above robbing a corpse).
Sheâs protective too, though she would never admit it. She mocks Lu Ten with a smirk on her lips at his temper, but she slips into the shadows to drag the very man that threatened their group into the alleyway, a poisoned dagger to his throat. Someone may threaten her family, but they only get that chance once, she makes sure it never happens again.
Even after Lu Ten dies and her group fractures, she keeps tabs on them. She finds a stowaway on Prince Zukoâs ship and she finds a friend again in a bar soon after. They have a drinking contest and an arm wrestle but it isnât the same, just the two of them. And in the end, itâs just June.

Why Spinaraki is an underrated gem of a ship
Okay, so first of all I just have to make a quick disclaimer: this is not to discredit other Shigaraki and Spinner ships, this is just to highlight why I think these two in particular are just neat.Â
Also, manga spoiler warning, as per usual. Content below the cut.
Why their characters work
Spinarakiâs dynamic is something that I feel like is overlooked by a lot of bnha fans, even from a platonic sense, so Iâd like to briefly go over their individual characters to reiterate why theyâre such a good match for each other.
Starting off, Shigaraki is an absolutely brilliantly-written villain, with a deep and complex past and personality that make him more than your average end-game bad guy. His broken mind that has been beaten to hell and back by severe trauma is still able to recognise flaws within society and the people that live in it, and has come such a long way since his first debut in the series. But what makes him stand out from most other villains is just how human and empathetic he is deep down.
Despite all of AFOâs grooming into making him a hate-filled, destruction-craving god, Shigaraki still retains a key quality from his childhood: a desire to befriend the friendless.
The reason why the League is such a good portrayal of a found family is because of this innate want to sympathize and look after the outcasts in his life. It didnât take much time at all for him to come to respect the other members of the League by the time the Overhaul arc came around, and during the MVA arc, itâs clear he cares deeply about their wants and needs. Heâs patient and listens to them, valuing their opinions greatly.
And now itâs time to turn our attention to the underrated character of this underrated ship: Spinner.
Spinner was understandably one of the more forgettable villains during the training camp arc - all he had to his character was that he was a hardcore Stain fanboy and nothing more.
However, that all changed when the MVA arc dropped, and we saw a side to Spinner that ties in to one of the BNHA universeâs underlying problems in their superhuman society, and made him so much more three-dimensional, lovable, and relatable. A victim of heteromorphic discrimination, Spinner was outcasted in his hometown and forced into reclusion, where he wasted his life away in his room lest he step outside and risk being called a freak again. It wasnât until he saw Stain plaguing the news that he was finally inspired to act, seeking out the League who claimed to uphold Stainâs ideology.
At his core, Spinner was simply searching for something to jump on, something that would make him get up and make significant change in his life, and looking at his backstory, itâs no wonder why Stainâs ideals struck a chord with him. He has plenty of reason to despise society like the rest of the League, but his experience with being discriminated against also makes him a sympathetic and sensitive character. He recognises that heâs extremely out of place in the world, even amongst the League, because he was the last one of them to figure out what he really wanted in the end, and itâs clear he has plenty of insecurities when it comes to questioning his purpose in life, comparing himself to others - like Toga, another fan of Stain - and how they seem to fit in so easily.
Itâs because of these insecurities that Shigaraki and Spinner work well together, because Shigarakiâs patience, understanding, and confidence is what allowed Spinner to solidify his conviction and come to terms with the fact that not 100% fitting in and just coming along for the ride is perfectly okay.
How their chemistry develops
Spinner and Shigarakiâs first proper on-screen interaction was during the highway scene after the Overhaul arc. This is also the first time we see Spinner question whether the League really is about Stainâs ideology or not, and Shigaraki responds by reassuring him that theyâre making a necessary sacrifice.Â
Since this is the point in the series where Shigaraki begins to really place his trust and respect in the League, it really shows with how he trusts Spinnerâs driving enough to sit on top of the damn truck. And speaking of Spinnerâs driving, this is the first time we get a glimpse into his character beyond the fanboy, scenes that we were unfortunately robbed of in the anime.
Spinnerâs love for video games immediately gives him something in common with Shigaraki, and the both of them frequently use video game lingo to describe their battle strategies and thought processes.
(Spinnerâs face in the corner absolutely sends me.)
From then on, their interactions go into a radio silence until the MVA arc kicks in, and this is where their relationship really begins to take off.
After we get some exposition on heteromorphic discrimination from Spinner, we return to the League in their temporary hideout where we discover that theyâre not doing too hot. Theyâre at a stalemate, unable to really do anything too productive, which prompts Spinner to speak up. Heâs frustrated with not knowing what direction theyâre going in, and understandably so, because right now, the League is his only place to go. If he left, he would be entirely on his own again, and this time with the heroes breathing down his neck.
He goes into brief detail about the kind of harsh environment he came from and why he was inspired by Stain, and in the heat of the moment, he doesnât think twice about grabbing the front of Shigarakiâs shirt, the man who could disintegrate him with one touch. Spinnerâs got mad balls, Iâll give him that.
Now, itâs known that Shigaraki isnât too fond of Stain, but he still doesnât get angry at all, even when Spinner is right up in his face. He remains calm, patient, and is ready to explain what he wants to happen (until he gets interrupted by Machia, of course).
Fast-forward to when theyâve all been warped inside the doctorâs lab and Shigaraki now has to present his conviction to Ujiko - Spinnerâs expression is a little difficult to read here, but it seems his expectations for what Shigaraki has to say are low.
However, when Shigaraki speaks, his words deeply resonate with Spinner, and it becomes clear that Shigaraki had listened very closely to Spinnerâs frustrated rant back in the hideout.
That last panel is especially interesting and drawn in a very deliberate way. Notice how, as Shigaraki is explaining his feelings, everyone except for Spinner is either confused or uninterested, and the panel is framed so that Spinner is the only one looking directly at Shigaraki. It very subtly conveys how Spinner is the sole person in the room who understands how Shigaraki feels, because despite coming from completely different backgrounds and experiencing completely different levels of trauma, Spinner and Shigaraki still hold the exact same sentiments when it comes to their innermost thoughts and desires.
So, needless to say, Spinner is now somewhat invested, and ready to pay close attention to Shigarakiâs future actions.
The next time we see them, itâs a month and a half later, and here we see Spinner relaying his concerns about Stain once again to Toga.
It seems that heâs talking more to himself than to Toga, and it reveals his insecurities about his place in the League. Heâs debating on whether or not he should stay or leave, and which is the better option. He appears to be willing to wait a little longer to see things through however; he wants to see where Shigarakiâs pursuit of his dream takes him.
(Thatâs pretty home of sexual of you, Spinner.)
Cut to when the League are battling with the MLA - Toga gets caught up with Curious, Twice runs off to go look for her, and Compress and Dabi are separated from the group via Geten, leaving Spinner and Shigaraki to fight together. Spinner is the first to witness Shigarakiâs Quirk suddenly evolve to where the decay will spread to whatever is touching it, and heâs quite amazed by it.
They begin to get a little overwhelmed with how many soldiers theyâre up against, and since Shigaraki is in a very hazy, sleep-deprived state, Spinner voices his concern for him. Shigaraki brushes his own health off to the side to bring up his uncertainty in his decision to fight the MLA, and he asks for Spinnerâs opinion on the matter, showing that once again, Shigaraki listens to and values what his allies have to say. This time itâs Spinnerâs turn to reassure Shigaraki that he made the right choice, allowing him to refocus on getting to the tower.
Shortly after, the Twices show up to help escort Shigaraki to the tower, and Spinner takes this opportunity to help lighten the burden by taking out the politician, who is basically giving the MLA soldiers stat boosts.
In the midst of his fight, he reflects on where he came from and how he got here, and he finally solidifies why he wants to follow Shigaraki. After realising that they share the same sentiments, he too wants to see the horizon that Shigaraki is envisioning. Shigaraki âlit a fire in his heartâ, and as all he can think about is helping him in whatever way he can, he comes to accept that itâs fine if heâs just coming along for the ride.
(âIâve got nothing I loveâ Are you sure about that-)
As we come to the grand finale of the battle, Shigaraki obliterates a huge chunk of the city, levelling it completely, and Spinner is the only other member from the League to witness it.
Heâs completely awestruck, and when it comes to Spinaraki, it doesnât get any gayer than these two lines parallelling one another:Â
Some post-development crumbs
Now that we have their relationship established and developed, we can poke at the smaller stuff that takes place afterwards.
The first little crumb we get is when Shigaraki is introduced on stage in the room beneath the MLA mansion. The other League members are waiting for their cue to walk out, and Spinnerâs heart beats as he watches Shigaraki intently.
After the speech, Shigaraki collapses from exhaustion, and while Compress simply remarks on how itâs a miracle he was still standing, Spinner expresses legitimate surprise and concern.
And for one last crumb until we see them interact again, I just think itâs cute that Spinner is in the support regiment of the PLF, yet again continuing the notion of Spinner wanting to help Shigaraki however he can.
In conclusionâŠ
Spinaraki is a surprisingly soft and wholesome villain ship with a lot of fluff potential. Just two local gaymers who want to get back at society for condemning them, and who have each otherâs complete support and loyalty.
Shigaraki has a huge soft-spot for his fellow outcasts, and Spinner is no exception. He accepts Spinner for who he is, doesnât make any condescending remarks about him or his appearance, and remains patient and calm even when Spinner gets frustrated, making sure to listen and take in every word thatâs said. He values Spinner as a person, and that ends up meaning so much for Spinner in the long run.
Spinner was someone who had no desires of his own, and nowhere to go where he felt safe and accepted. Even after taking up Stainâs ideals and joining the League, he was uncertain if he still belonged there - heâs noticed how there is no longer a trace of Stainâs ideology within the League, and heâs still faced discrimination in the form of Dabi calling him a lizard during the highway scene, something which the CRC does at the beginning of the MVA arc. However, Shigaraki ended up becoming Spinnerâs reason for staying, finally giving him purpose to his life. They feel the same when it comes to acting out against society, and theyâre able to understand one another on that emotional level. They have plenty in common, and itâs very clear now that Spinner is fully-prepared to follow Shigaraki to the ends of the earth.
Spinarakiâs dynamic is severely underrated, and the concept of Spinner - who has no prior romantic experience - crushing on the worldâs new destructive god is too good to pass up. And the video game dates? 10/10, so damn adorable, they could bond over so many different games and just chill out when they donât feel like going outside. Not to mention itâs just so good how Shigaraki isnât fazed by Spinnerâs appearance and how Spinner desperately needs that from someone, because this boy has obviously not been loved at all and craves that kind of connection (I mean, just look at how easily flustered he got from Mandalayâs flirting; no wonder he was pissed about it afterwards, now that we know what kind of history heâs had. That was probably the first time anyoneâs ever complimented his appearance, and it just ended up being a dirty trick).
So yeah, Spinaraki has my whole heart, and I canât wait to see them interact more (pls lord Horikoshi, give us Spinner reacting to buffraki when they reunite, I need to see his gay little heart panic for a whole second). Their dynamic is one of the cutest within the League, and I really hope more people see it when the MVA arc gets animated.
I hope you all enjoyed reading this - have a cute little sketch my good friend @batsyartâ did as a bonus!
