another inherently funny part of star trek is the very first show establishes a magic machine that sparklezaps them out of uncomfortable situations so for the next 56 years writers have to keep coming up with reasons why it won't work this time

OMG I KNOW WHAT THIS IS FROM
Tumblr media
it was a Star Trek-themed ripoff of a nearly identical Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game, which itself was basically Kerplunk. The idea was that the Ferengi were trying to steal the dilithium from the Enterprise's warp core, so you had to catch them. You pulled out the little phaser beam sticks and tried to catch the Ferengi in your scoop as they came flying out the holes along the bottom. There was also a little dilithium crystal and if that fell out you lost, or something. I saw it in a secondhand store once when I was a kid but we didn't buy it.

nine people i want to get to know better
Tumblr media
Thank you for the tag, @slutsons-blog! Starting a new post because I'm autistic and therefore mostly only care about the "Current Obsession" question, and want to ramble excessively as usual in that one.
Last song: Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Red Rescue Team: Pokemon Square because I'm currently playing Pokemon Mystery Dungeon with my daughter. Otherwise I honestly couldn't tell you. Whatever was on in my car.
Fave color: Purple
Currently watching: Star Trek Discovery
Last movie: Knives Out
Sweet/spicy/savory: Sweet, tart, salty
Relationship: married x 27 years
Last thing I googled: the word "dependent", for spelling assistance. which is a good thing because I spelled it "dependant".
Current Obsession: it's been spn since 2016. Truly we are the Hotel California of media franchises. I did recently play Disco Elysium twice in a row in quick succession, and I follow the DE tag. I can't recommend the game highly enough.... but I can feel my Special Interest-level obsession with it fading already. Spn has never faded even a tiny bit and I wonder if it ever will.
@slutsons-blog I feel after reading that you're watching spn for the first time, that I did you a bit of a disservice with my Sam takes to you before in that I mostly talked about Sam's evolution as a character as the show goes on and very little about him from the first five seasons.
Gotta be honest and tell you that although I liked both brothers all along, I was a Dean girl until the end of s6/beginning of s7, when the balance of who gets whumped the most started shifting and my subconscious suddenly decided to switch allegiances. It's not that I liked Dean any less; my id just loves a sopping wet pathetic kitten of a man who has been sexually abused, and Sam got suddenly way more kitteny and pathetic after the Cage. So I don't actually have a ton of takes on "what to love about Sam in the early seasons". I do love early seasons Sam too--she is my beautiful baby princess--but my early seasons takes are a lot more inchoate.
I count myself lucky about my id's sudden defection though, because I think we have limited control of who our blorbos are, and having Dean as a blorbo is a tough row to hoe as the later seasons go along. You know how you noticed that in s6, Dean suddenly gets a lot more assholey without apparent reason? Unfortunately he never gets better again, and in fact keeps getting worse and worse as the years go by, until by the last seasons he is openly far more abusive to their joint child(-in-an-adult body) than John was to him and Sam. It's a realistic picture of what can happen when trauma keeps piling up on people, but it's also honestly pretty distressing, especially if he's your blorbo.
If one is in it for the ship, there's some good destiel content in the later seasons, but if you're in it for Dean, you're left either 1) dealing with the fact he's got extremely significant interpersonal problems that he never gets much of anywhere on solving and that negatively impact his chosen family in profound ways, or 2) pretending he's the same character he was in s1 and Sam is the same Sam from s1, only more boring, and Dean is just trying to put up with him because he was brainwashed by John (or ig 3- something in the middle between those two. But that seldom seems to happen in practice for whatever reason). These two versions of the show are poorly compatible, and that's how the Sam girls and the Dean girls end up in isolated silos. A few people manage to live in both, but not many.
Anyway, I feel like without the context of how Sam and Dean change in the mid to late seasons, the two fics I recc'd as Sam character studies are going to seem insanely Dean-critical, so if you haven't read them yet, you might want to wait until s10. In the meantime, the general recs are fun reads and hopefully do a good job of showcasing both characters earlier on.
Tagging (but I would be a huge hypocrite if I didn't specify there's no pressure to respond, since I almost always fail at responding to tag games myself): @adihildilid @aliusfrater @quietwingsinthesky @sammygender @ardentpoop

Watching Star Trek TOS for the first time, and here are my thoughts on episode three (Charlie “X”)! (I didn’t do episode two cause I just wanted to watch it but I love Bones)
- so far I really like the kid
- Kirk shut up, let Charlie talk
- oh no he’s frightened by the door :(((
- girls do not look THAT different, getting some bad vibes from you Charlie
- BONES!!! (Why does he stand like that, it’s so curved)
- “I want people to like me” oh god they gave this boy anxiety
- He’s learning about the patriarchy, like Ken
- Kirk making Bones tell Charlie about puberty, he looked so defeated
- SPOCKS EYESHADOW!!!
- Charlie gets a Kirk assigned father, it’s not Kirk himself but he did assign Bones to do it, can’t you see the man is tired Jim?!?
- why is she being mean to Spock in verses? Nvm this is fun and he’s enjoying her singing
- HE SLAPPED KIRKS BUTT WHAT
- “there’s no right way to hit a woman.. you know man to man.. uhh… you understand, Charlie?” That was the worst way to try and explain anything, Kirk
- “I put meatloaf in the ovens, now there’s turkeys, real turkeys” then Charlie’s little laugh
- aww they’re playing chess together, normal husband activities
- “you smell like a girl” “I feel hungry… all over” back the fuck up Charlie
- stop trying to get Bones to explain stuff to him, Kirk
- this episode is just so icky, one issue is that they can’t just have an adult conversation and they can’t explain anything properly to him, they’re just telling him no and that he’s wrong. It’s a good example of how concealing information doesn’t allow people to find their own morals but instead creates a bunch of rules which can be easily broken if the person doesn’t believe in them because they don’t understand the logic behind them. (Not saying that the boundaries they’re setting for him are wrong, he just can’t understand them because they’re not explaining shit)
- SHUT UP SAM HE’S TRYING- oops Sam’s gone
- damn that German expressionist lighting tho, like something out of metropolis
- I FUCKIN DARE YOU KIRK, PICK HIM UP SEE WHAT HAPPENS
- okay Kirk saying it’s his choice is good cause at least he’s teaching him that these things he does are his own actions
- “short tempered, because he doesn’t understand” cause you won’t explain shit without mind games and metaphors
- Spock and Bones DO NOT want to get involved
- when Charlie’s explaining what he did to the Antares Bones looks absolutely terrified (Bones sitting like that on the table is… I have many thoughts)
Tumblr media
- OH NO UHURA!
- Don’t you dare call Spock Mr. Ears
- “Teenager with supernatural abilities realizes his full potential and decides to use it for evil NOT CLICKBAIT”
- Why would you do that, why would you turn her into an iguana
- GET HIM!!! Wait no! Janice!
- “I love you” “you don’t know what that means” good for her, fuck you Charlie
- He gave Kirk period pain
- “cause you need me to run the ship, and I need him” Spirk? It’s more likely than you think
- this slide from Bones
- “I don’t think you can handle anymore, you’ve reached your limit” Spock and Bones start fucking shit up immediately for Kirk
- Kirk was so ready to punch a bitch
- nice fucking try Charlie- oh Kirk is defending him- nvm he still gets yoinked
- imagine if Charlie becomes Q lol (is that a thing? Are they related?)
- well that’s done now… where’s Scotty, Sulu, and Checkov? (Sulu appeared shirtless in the credits as I wrote that)
Thanks for sticking around again :)
Here’s a link to the first ramble
And all the other rambles
Below the cut is some thoughts I had on the second episode
Some thoughts on episode 2 (The Man Trap):
- it was kinda funny seeing Jim be like “she’s old as fuck, just like Bones”
- I didn’t realize that was where “he’s dead, Jim” came from and my dad quotes it all the time
- it was interesting that even the creature referred to themselves as an animal
- McCoy in the ending where he really didn’t want to kill somebody he loved even if they were just the image
- would not want to be the person to explain what happened to her to Bones

My watch of Star Trek: Prodigy and the dynamic between Janeway and Chakotay has got me thinking about Sam and Jack from SG-1. Two completely different franchises that have a set of characters that would absolutely go to the ends of the galaxy to save the other.
I haven't watched all that much Star Trek, I will admit. But I'm getting there, I promise.
I have, however, watched Stargate more times than I can count (though it did end at season 8 for me) and there is an episode where Sam spends months trying to figure out a way to save Jack after he's stranded on an alien planet and Good ol' Dr Frasier (I love her, by far my favourite recurring character, hence why I use the name Rothery) asks Sam if her feelings are a problem because, hello, regulations and you can't have feelings for your CO Sam.
And then there's the time Sam gets stuck in an interstellar cloud, alone on the Prometheus and Jack can't do a whole lot to help her, so he ends up feeling entirely useless and Teal'c talks to him about how there was a time Sam felt very much the same when he was M.I.A once again on a different alien planet than the one mentioned above.
The need to do all that they can to save the other while probably feeling completely and utterly helpless, because where do you start?
And Upgrades people, let's not forget about Upgrades!
There are just so many instances but these are the ones I was reminded of when I watched Prodigy, because for me, the scenes with Janeway desperate to save Chakotay just vibed in a similar way. And yes, I need to watch more Voyager because I don't know the half of it yet.
The only difference in Stargate is that the feelings are acknowledged on screen by Sam and Jack, but we can just leave them in the room, sir if you want and pretend we don't have them, when we totally do. That's cool Carter, let's do that. Alrighty then...
And I forgot where I was going with this, it's late and I'm tired and now I am just rambling and not making any sense...
But I guess my point was who doesn't want someone that would travel through time and space to save your ass because the world is a better place with you in it, all because they love you so goddamn much?
And sure it can be platonic if you want, but with these two pairings it doesn't feel that way to me. But that's just how I feel about...
As a S/J shipper, thank God for Moebius and Threads.
...And I know in these shows there are instances where other crew/team members get equally stuck in stupidly dangerous/life threatening situations that require them to be saved (::cough cough:: Daniel), but it's not quite the same now is it, when there is no yearning present?

Brief Candle
I’m back! The holidays kinda took me out of the mood to watch new things rather than binge Star Trek for the eleven billionth time, but new year, new Stargate episodes! Booyah! Here we go, Season 1, Episode 9:
Okay I’m thinking Greek this time?
Yay, so is Daniel! I feel so smart.
Well, childbirth is something new for the series, sure.
Love everyone automatically looking at Sam. Just because she has the same parts doesn’t mean she knows what the hell to do 😂 Same, Sam.
I’ve missed the intro music 💗
Of course Daniel knows what to do! He’s our hero!
Well. Theoretically, he knows what to do. But they aren’t going to kill off a baby in the first ten minutes of the show, so I have high hopes.
Jack and Teal’c have noped out of that situation. Mood.
Aw, a baby! That is clearly not a newborn. But a baby!
Everyone is young and pretty - what is this, a teen drama?
Wow, this lady is not subtle at all.
And yet Jack is somehow startled by ‘the cake is only for you.’
Sam is definitely not surprised. Is laughing at your CO against regulations?
Also, all I can think of is ‘the cake is a lie.’ Wrong decade. But still.
Ma’am, you’re supposed to wait until your crush can’t see you before you trade high fives with your besties.
Oh good, the time honored tradition of tormenting your teammates is alive and well in Stargate. Always my favorite part 😁
Okay, judging by that last look Jack gave Sam for giggling, laughing at your CO might not be against regulations, but it is definitely not recommended if you want to stay out of the dog house. Or KP duty. Whatever.
Oh no, his vision’s going all fuzzy! WAS THE CAKE A LIE
She drugged him and is now... dancing for him? Oh and now dragging him away, that’s a little more what I expected.
Um, shouldn’t the team be fighting a little harder to intervene? This seems out of character? He just got dragged off by an alien stranger?
So the roofie wore off, Jack has no idea what happened, and he may have killed a woman with sex? This episode took a left.
Oh, everyone is just asleep. But then why does Jack look so freaked out? I mean, other than the roofie thing.
Ooooo awkward.
Bet there’s not training in ‘how to greet your team while wearing a sheet.’ I also bet that Jack wishes there was.
I can’t tell if Sam is accusatory or concerned.
Well, definitely concern all around now. Passing out will do that. What all is up with that cake?? Roofie *and* universe’s best sleeping medication?
Poor Jack. He is not having a good time.
Wait, the other people aren’t hungover. So is it not the cake that makes them pass out?
T’ealc’s ‘You never before inquired’ when Daniel asks why he didn’t tell him he knew what the temple symbols meant. He’s not wrong. 😂
Teal’c just casually opening up the statue while Daniel rambles. King.
That is a *really* cool tablet.
Aha! That’s why they made a big deal out of the birth mark! So we could identify this kid who’s growing up WAY too fast.
Wait, the original dude. He said 100 days of celebration or something. What if it’s not a festival, but some kind of sped up time thing? Sped up lives? Or is the planet sped up, and our intrepid heros are going to return home and find a year passed or something?
Looks like the former! So does each day equal one year for these people?
I’d make a joke about cradle robbing, but since Jack was drugged and not consenting, I’ll refrain. Also, if it’s 1 day = 1 year, then 31 years seems respectable.
A virus?
Oh no, that means Jack only has 100 days to live?! Or less, maybe? Not sure how that translates if they start out older. He was growing on me!
Whoa that sunset came on fast.
Yay, it’s the Cool Doc again! I’m glad she came back. She better not die like Kowalsky did after two episodes. I’ve got trust issues with this show now.
Floppy disks. Now there’s a throwback.
OH great, starting out older sounds like it accelerates this? So how much time does he have??
Holy receding hairline, Batman.
TWO WEEKS?!
I mean, he’s right to send them away, best to be on the safe side and they can make trips for info that they need. I’m glad their disease protocols are improving! Although considering they let Carter traipse back and forth... still not great.
Nanotech? Will that be easier to destroy than a normal virus? Just wave a big EMP in Jack’s direction, see what happens?
Pretty sure arguing with the statue isn’t a *great* use of your time, Jack, but I can’t really blame you.
MARRIAGE cake?
I’m not sure yelling at the woman about the only culture she’s ever known is really going to help matters here.
How does their aging work anyway - everyone looks young. Where are the people who are 70 or 80 days old? Or do they not visibly age after a certain point? But they don’t seem surprised by Jack’s appearance, so that doesn’t make sense.
Also, is there just like a *massive* graveyard somewhere if people are dying off so quickly?
I really need to stop trying to figure out the internal logic of a planet that, based on how the show has gone so far, we’re never going to see again.
How does Jack know that there isn’t like a forcefield or laser grid to keep the Chosen from leaving? I guess they probably scanned the area for things like that.
This is... possibly very sweet? I know Kynthia is trying to be nice, but sex really can’t solve everything, honey.
Also, are they going to have sex right in front of the Stargate? What if someone comes through. All ‘We have a cure!... OH.’
Could we have a Jack episode that *doesn’t* make me want to cry? Please?
Well, that’s taking de-throning a god very seriously.
Okay, this has been bugging me the whole time, WHERE do I know the blonde female alien from? The actress, I mean. I’m going to have to look her up after the episode, aren’t I.
They’re going to run into some sort of forcefield by leaving the village aren’t they?
There is some sort of... something? They’re awake? Jack isn’t younger, though.
The statue! Has a blinky thing!
Our team to the rescue!
They fixed everyone and Jack gets to live. Love a happy ending.
Aw. Maybe Kynthia can fall for someone new with all the years she has now. Maybe without drugging them first this time.

hello best friend please do the series ask thingy for doctor who and star trek because obviously okay love you bye
thank u for giving me permission to ramble. love you <333333
Doctor Who (answering this for classic, new and EU)
Favorite character: Romana. Literally who else could it be? I watched City of Death when I was 12 and I imprinted on her so quickly and I only got more attached to her in the EU. I support women's wrongs and I hope she gets some therapy sometime.
Second favorite character: uhhhhh Doctor Who has so many god tier characters but I have to go with Bernice Summerfield. Aside from her being the original iconic bisexual time travelling archaeologist, she's genuinely one of the most interesting and complex characters. She's also a disaster (relatable)
Least favorite character: I try my best to like all of the main characters (or at least find them narratively interesting) but I have a grudged against Sam Jones from the EDAs. If I met her in real life I would probably like her but I got sick of her pretty quickly in the books. I know she's meant to be a bit annoying sometimes and that's part of her character but... I'm sorry I just don't like her. (However Sam in Unnatural History.... amazing, great, showstopping.)
The character I'm most like: as much as I'd like to think that I'm cool let's be real I'm most like Nyssa (quiet, likes science, etc) but at least my planet hasn't been destroyed yet
Favorite pairing: Doctor/TARDIS. It's the ship ship what more do you want me to say?
Least favorite pairing: I'm a ship and let ship sort of person but the swathes of Ten/Rose fic I've filtered through to get to more interesting stuff has permanently put me off
Favorite moment: 12's speech to Missy in The Doctor Falls permanently changed my life
Rating out of 10: 1000000/10 i don't know who i would be without Doctor Who
Star Trek (answering for all shows)
Favorite character: Seven of Nine. Listen she's such a good character and I haven't been able to stop thinking about her in months. She's queer, she's got the autistic swag, she's got a traumatic backstory, truly all of my favorite things in a character
Second favorite character: ooooh so many good options but currently Sisko (yes I am rewatching the Dominion War arc in ds9 why do you ask?)
Least favorite character: again I don't enjoy disliking characters but I'm not a huge fan of snw!Chapel (or snw!Spock for that matter)
The character I'm most like: realistically Jake Sisko
Favorite pairing: currently Seven/Raffi
Least favorite pairing: again ship and let ship but I'm not a fan of Spock/Chapel in Strange New Worlds
Favorite moment: I mean... Far Beyond the Stars as a whole episode but particularly the last scene of Benny Russell having a breakdown which... it's just such a good scene on so many levels
Rating out of 10: warp 10/10 🦎🦎🦎

Oh my god what if the Klingons are hugely into country music too. And they dress up in outfits too, like those Japanese businessmen who are super into cowboys.
What I’m saying is a posse of Klingons dressed in cowboy hats, boots with the spurs (with the spurs) and wrangler jeans roll up to the Country & Western Convention on Altair IV and run into several Vulcans dressed exactly the same. They tip hats. An instant bond is formed.
Vulcan: "You must admit, the mathematical precision required in ‘Dueling Banjos’ is most impressive for a human work. I am currently working on adapting it for the ka'athyra.”
Klingon: “You haven’t truly experienced Garth Brooks until you have heard him in the original Klingon.” *chugs his whiskey and smashes the empty bottle over his head before turning to scream at the stage* “NOW PLAY SOME GOD DAMN KENNY CHESNEY”
Later they run into a group of Romulans in denim and flannels.
Klingon: “Romulans are without honour, just like Jolene! You take things just because you can!”
Romulan: “Could someone with no honour do this?”
A Romulan presses play on a boombox that blares “Cotton Eye Joe”. All the Romulans line dance. One of them does a perfect death drop. The Vulcans breathe a sigh of relief as another diplomatic crisis is averted. In the end, it is not human diplomacy that brings the galaxy together; it is country music.
Okay okay but imagine Vulcans dancing to Cottoneye Joe!

STRANGE! NEW! WORLDS!!!!!!
have seen episode 1 and: i am in LOVE with their takes on uhura and chapel and m'benga. i LOVED the visuals of it. i can't wait to meet sam kirk properly!
on the other hand: the pacing of this episode felt weird? and, hot take, i'm not really a fan of using specific modern-day imagery in star trek -- it felt a little too on-the-nose? like, a fun part of star trek is how the ways they talk about the past actually genuinely feel like someone from the future talking about our time, and i LIKE that -- think that two-parter from deep space nine about the bell riots. making it someone from the future referencing hyperspecific details about the late 2010s - early 2020s makes it just feel like... someone from our time is trying to talk about our time but under the guise of cgi.
not-a-hot-take: why the FUCK did they make me think about spock having sex. I DON'T WANT TO THINK ABOUT SPOCK HAVING SEX. ESPECIALLY IN THAT SPECIFIC SITUATION, ESPECIALLY KNOWING WHERE THAT LEADS.

Drastic Measures
The Boatem Crew Boards The Dream Cruise Ship
AKA the Boatem Dreamers AU
TW : Implied torture, blood, injuries, dsmp typical violence.
Quackity wipes off the blood staining the blades of his shears using one of the sleeves of his once pristine poet shirt.
There’s a pleased smirk curling his lips.
Growling, Techno gathers the last of his strength to spit a thick blob of saliva and blood in the man’s face.
It lands, much to his satisfaction. Quackity shoots him a scathing glare, grabbing him by the hair roughly and lifting his head up to examine his wounds.
Technoblade stomps down the embers of fear that threatens to appear in his gut as Quackity’s eyes take on a sadistic glint that promises untold amounts of pain.
He holds back a sigh of relief when the man pulls away, glancing towards Sam who has just stepped off the moving platform.
“Well?”
Putting his shears away, Quackity offers the Warden a irritated shake of the head, hands curling into fists.
“He still won’t spill. Might be time to move onto more… drastic measures.”
Techno tenses, dreading what the man has planned for him.
Judging by Quackity’s gleefully sadistic tone and Sam’s swift agreement to the man’s suggestion, what’s coming won’t be pleasant in the slightest.
Cursing in his mind, Techno hisses in pain as he shifts slightly.
He doesn’t how long he can take it.
He’s been stuck in here for nearly a month.
Only a few days at the start of his stay in Pandora’s Vault were exempt from the pain and daily torture sessions he now has to endure constantly.
He’s exhausted. Sick and tired of Pandora’s Vault.
He might one of the World’s greatest fighters and a piglin hybrid, but he still human.
He wants all of this to end.
He wants to go home.
He wants to see Phil again.
He wants to keep mentoring Ranboo and Niki, teaching them the art of war; teaching them how to stand up for themselves, how to fight for what they believe.
He wants to talk some more with Mumbo about redstone machines and unorthodox weapons, like end crystals.
Peace love and plants
Blood for the blood god!
Blood god!
Mumbo mentor! So cool!
He wants to go on another grinding expedition for Wither skulls with Grian and Impulse. He wants to scam people with Scar while Grian watches on with exasperated amusement from the sidelines. Man, he’s really craving a iDimpy bar right now. Even if the recipe has yet to be completely perfected.
Wither duo!
No! Wither trio!
Desert duo return yes!
Hell, he’ll even happily listen to Grian ramble about building techniques for hours on end, he misses the times the avian would chat his ear off, going on and on about gradients and block palets.
He misses the nights spent star gazing with Pear in the observatory Grian built on top of the mountain near his house.
He misses his calm evening conversations with Scar in front of the fireplace, with Steve and Jellie curled up in a cuddle pile at their feet. The man’s soothing voice and charming smiles are one of the rare thing to be able to settled the voices in his head.
He misses his best friend, who stuck to his side through it all.
Damn it, Phil. What’s taking you so long?
True
Mood
Moon big
Dadzalate lol
Techno not his son remember?
Right sorry
Sleepy boys inc reunited soon please
Sam gives a grave nod. “I see. How unfortunate. We really need information about the intruders as soon as possible.” The creeper pauses. “What do you have in mind?”
Quackity tsks as he exits the cell with Sam by his side.
“Now now, Sam. Don’t get ahead of yourself. You know how I like to keep it a surprise until the very last second. It’s good for the business after all. Makes the game so much more… addictive, doesn’t it?” He steps onto the platform, waiting as Sam rummages through his inventory to end pearl his way across the lava. “So don’t worry, you’ll all be finding out in no time at all.” His smirk widens as the platform starts its trek towards the Vault’s entrance. “See you soon, Technoblade.”

yo should i watch star trek? i've been thinking about watching it but there are so many shows and movies and it's verrry overwhelming.
star trek and ncis have both been in my list of shows to watch for a long time, but i never got around to actually watching them. watching u post about them makes me wanna binge watch them but it's SO overwhelming and idk where to start
Okay, first off, you should ABSOLUTELY watch Star Trek. It's GLORIOUS and absolutely bonkers and thoughtful at the same time. You should also definitely watch NCIS because for a show about murder, it is surprisingly comforting 😂
This post got VERY VERY long because I learned I have a LOT of thoughts about how to watch large amounts of television. Uh, sorry 😂I split it up into NCIS and Star Trek, and then....the Star Trek section is still really long. I hope it's not too much rambling, and that it is possibly helpful?? I feel really honored you asked me about this <3
NCIS
NCIS is pretty simple to binge - I just finished watching it for the first time. Pretty much, I'd run straight through NCIS (the original, not NCIS:LA or NCIS:NO) from season 1-13. A few caveats: I enjoyed s1-s2, but I have some friends who were bothered by a few episodes that were transphobic. I mean it's kind of expected, since the show started in 2003 and some of the characters weren't written as the most accepting people, at least at the start But that doesn't make it easier to watch. If you think that will bother you, I'd be happy to give you a list of episodes to watch/skip. :)
From season 3 onward, I'd really just watch in order (you can skip some of the more gruesome ones *glares at two specific season 3 episodes*). I wandered off sometime around season 13/14 but you can conceivably continue on to season 18 which just finished like a week ago, I think?
Oh, and then you can try the spin-offs. Neither have really been able to hold my attention but you might have better luck!
Star Trek
Okay this one is a lot less simple. Yes, there is SO much Star Trek and asking yourself to binge all of it is very very confusing because....this timeline is a good explanation.
Tumblr media
Yeah.
Sir, what?
So! There's no right way to binge Trek. I'd definitely start with a TV show. Yes, there are a lot of Star Trek movies and some of them are fabulous, but Star Trek was born on TV and the TV shows are still the bread and butter of the franchise.
There are maybe five good entry points for Star Trek. If you don't like the first one you try, try a different one, since they are similar but every entry in the franchise has a very different feel.
I'd say there are maybe five good entry points for Star Trek:
Star Trek: The Original Series (1966-1969) The classic, very first Star Trek. Kirk, Spock, McCoy. Absolutely ICONIC. Has a few fabulous, classic high-concept sci-fi episodes and a few absolutely HILARIOUS episodes. If you choose this one, be prepared for a show that's VERY 60s in color and style, thinly-veiled Vietnam War allegories, and a lot of William Shatner.
Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987-1994) My personal favorite. Episodic, absolutely brilliant acting, and the RANGE! Literally has a cross-dressing Wild West romp one week and a deep, "machines develop a sense of self-preservation" plot the next. Some of the very best television ever made. The only problem with TNG is it starts reallllly slow. Most people don't really enjoy season 1, and it really doesn't get good until halfway thru season 2. So I'd recommend watching the pilot, then maybe skipping through a few s1 episodes as they strike your fancy. There are a few good ones but also many duds. The nice thing is it's entirely episodic so you can skip without worrying about losing the main thread of the story. After the pilot, I think the only season 1 episode that's crucial for plotty reasons is Skin of Evil (1x23)? Then starting with A Measure of a Man (2x09) I'd watch straight through. The rest of the series is EXCELLENT and quality is, on average, fairly high. (Okay, you can skip the last episode of s2 since it's a clip show. A writer's strike happened. XD) If you choose this route, be prepared for the slow start. And the VERY 80s sci-fi costumes. :)
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993-1999) I'm not a huge DS9 fan, but I really, really enjoy their comedic episodes. If season-long arcs and a more gritty, politick-y feel strikes your fancy, this is the show for you. Again, this one has brilliant acting (most Trek does tbh) and a LOT of range. DS9 is set during wartime, so it's definitely got a different feel. I like it but don't love it, but this show has changed the lives of a lot of people, I think, so it's definitely a good option. I think DS9 starts better than TNG, and this is definitely one you want to watch in order. Seasons 1-3 are a little more episodic and then the series-long war arc begins in earnest.
Star Trek: Voyager (1995-2001) I have an outsized love for Voyager entirely because of fandom. (J/C fandom has a very large overlap with Sam/Jack fandom!) The premise of Voyager is that it's a ragtag crew (half military officers, half rebel terrorists) trying to get home after being flung 70,000 light years from Earth (which will take roughly 70 years for them to traverse). This is the only show with a female captain and it is TERRIFIC. I'm just saying, if you watch this one, be prepared to ship the captain and the first officer. Because...you will. :) Overall quality of Voyager is, IMHO, not quite as high as TNG. It's again more episodic with some occasional multi-episode plot threads. But the two shows have equally strong captains, and Voyager is definitely a more scrappy ship than TNG's Enterprise. The characters change a LOT over seven seasons, so definitely watch Voyager in order. I think this show actually has one of the better pilot episodes of Star Trek, in a franchise full of notoriously poor pilot episodes.
Star Trek: Discovery (2017-) If you want a "modern" show - y'know, fancy effects and such - I'd roll with Discovery. But it's definitely a controversial entry in the franchise, and one of the less consistent ones, IMHO. But I really like the pilot, and also enjoyed season 2, so you could definitely start here if you're looking for something that's more recent and less, y'know, of whatever era it was made.
For people who love SG-1, I'd probably start with TNG or Voyager? I'm not sure. Discovery is a lot flashier but I think you'll probably enjoy the other four more, if you like SG-1. Totally a matter of personal taste, though.
I hope you got to the end of this, and honestly, if you want to get into either of these shows and are still confused, just message me? I will happily give advice :)
TL;DR
Just binge NCIS from episode 1 onward. If you are very sensitive to transphobia, message me and I'll tell you which season 1 eps to skip.
For Trek: If you love SG-1, I'd start with The Next Generation or Voyager. But honestly, you could start with The Original Series, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, or Discovery, depending on what you like in your TV.

Here's to us
One more toast
And then we'll pay the bill
Closing night was always a sad thing. But after the last three months, all of the drama, and the nightmares… You could tell that the smile on Reggie’s face was his, and he was happy. Truly happy.
Deep inside
Both of us
Can feel the autumn chill
“Y/N, I’m sorry. I’ll be better. I want to explain, so I’ll be at our spot at 7 pm tomorrow.” You listened to his voicemail over and over, trying to decide if you should trust him this time. You got one of these voicemails every week on Monday. It had been a month since “the incident” and he wasn’t giving up.
“Y/N, I’m sorry. I’ll be-” You tossed your phone at the wall as hard as possible, but with your bad luck it landed on the soft white sheets of your bed and you let out a scream. It was loud and heart-wrenching, and you collapsed into the shag carpet. The soft blue carpet he had bought for you when you found out you had landed the role.
And from your spot on the floor, there was the photo of the two of you that you had framed after your second date. When you knew he was the one. He had taken you to the fair, and one of his friends had come over to take a photo of the two of you, but someone had bumped into him, and there was a ton of bright pink cotton candy in his hair. That was your favorite moment with him.
You rolled over, and like a bad omen, your phone played the voicemail again. “Y/N, I’m sorry. I’ll be better. I want to explain, so I’ll be at our spot at 7 pm tomorrow.” You had crawled onto your bed to turn it off when you heard him whisper something he hadn’t in any of the other voicemails. “I love you.”
As you lay down to sleep that night, your brain looped his words. I love you, I love you, I love you. I. Love. You.
He hadn’t ever said it before.
Birds of passage
You and me
We fly instinctively
The cast all had slight tears in their eyes. Most of them were seniors, including you and Reggie, so this was your last show at a school you had grown to love.
When the summer's over
And the dark clouds hide the sun
Neither you nor I'm to blame
“Y/N and Reggie.” Your science teacher moved on and continued calling out other pairs to work together.
He moved to where you were sitting. It seemed as if his personality had changed. He was no longer the confident, happy boy you knew, but a shy, quiet one. “I- I can ask for a different partner. You probably don’t, don’t want to work with me.” His eyes were transfixed on the desk.
You don’t know what led you to do this, but you slipped a finger under his chin and tilted his face to look at you. “We have 5 minutes left in this period, and then we have rehearsal. You have that long to come up with a convincing argument as to why I should trust you, go it?”
He nodded softly, and you released his face. Now you had that long to figure out if you should trust him again.
As the bell rang you began to pack up your stuff when a note fell out of your bag. You picked it up and began to read it.
“Y/N. I kissed him. I’m not trying to cover for him, it’s the honest truth.” You looked up at your teacher.
“Y/L/N, get to rehearsal, or at least get out of my classroom.”
“Yeah, sorry!” You said, hurrying out of her classroom. You stepped into the hall, and you continued to read the note.
“I know it sounds like I’m covering for him. I’m not. I came into his dressing room, I kissed him. (I’ll spare you the details) But you two are an amazing couple, and he’s been a mess without you. There’s a hole in his heart that only you can fix.”
And just like the “I love you,” those last words rang in your head through rehearsal.
“There’s a hole in his heart that only you can fix.”
When all is said and done
In our lives
We have walked
Some strange and lonely treks
He crossed the stage and looked back at you. The strength it would take the entire cast to not laugh like children would be incredible.
Slightly worn
But dignified
And not too old for sex
We're still striving for the sky
No taste for humble pie
“Thank you.” He said, passing you a coke. “The pie will be out in a second.”
The booth in the back of the diner was a quiet one, but there were so many memories here. Your first date, your first kiss, Reggie asking you to be his girlfriend, and getting cast as Donna and Sam. You had found out sitting in this booth.
The waitress came over. “Two slices of apple pie, enjoy you two,” She said, with a little wink.
You took a fork and stabbed the pie like an enemy. “Talk.”
“I didn’t mean to. She came in, and she started it, I-” You shoved some pie in his mouth. His face was alarmed for a second, and then he smiled.
“Not about that, idiot, about the project. We have to present tomorrow.” You took a bite of your pie.
“I thought…” He was lost in thought for a moment and then he spoke. “I was thinking we could alternate slides? Or if you just want to do the chunks you wrote, that’s cool too!” He said, eating some more of his pie.
“That sounds good, we can alternate slides. Also, could you help me with my math homework? I’m- well, I’ve got a D. Can you help me? I brought it with me if you want to now, I have it with me, or we can do it later?” You rambled off.
“Scooch over,” He said, standing up. As you did, he sat down next to you. “Okay, pull it out, and show me what you’re struggling with. We’re not leaving till you have it down.”
He smiled at you, and you knew you were back to normal now. Or at least, a new normal.
Thanks for all your generous love
And thanks for all the fun
Neither you nor I'm to blame
As he sang that line, you both glanced into the audience where your former-best-friend-now-acquaintance sat. Your relationship had healed over the last month. He and you were clearer, and when/if anything happened, you both gave each other a chance to explain your side of the story. It was better now.
When all is said and done
It's so strange
When you're down
And lying on the floor
“Okay look up when you open your eyes,” He said, removing his hands from your face. You looked out at the beautiful rolling hills and then up. Up to the sky, and the shining stars. You gasped as you saw them, each one more beautiful than the last.
“Woah, Reggie this is so beautiful, I-” You turned around to face him. He had a picnic all laid out. There was a full apple pie and ice cream, along with a bunch of your favorite sweets and some popcorn and pretzels.
“Reggie, when did you have the time for this? It’s almost tech week,” You said as you sat down next to him. “Not that I’m ungrateful but seriously, when did you-” He cut you off as he stuck a bit of pie in your mouth.
“Did you?” He nodded. “You bought a full pie from the diner?” You smiled at him so big. And it was a wonderful night.
How you rise
Shake your head
Get up and ask for more
Clear-headed and open-eyed
With nothing left untried
Standing calmly at the crossroads
No desire to run
“I’m scared Alex.” It was Reggie’s voice you heard as you walked up to the garage. Over the past 2 and a half months, your relationship had changed, and now, it was the Saturday before tech week.
You froze outside the garage as you listened to Reggie.
“I- I, I messed it all up before, and I keep feeling like I’m gonna mess up again,” Reggie said. His voice was shaking if it was even possible for a voice to do that.
“Reg,” Alex said. “What happened wasn’t your fault. They came in and kissed you.”
“I should’ve stopped it. I should have stopped them.”
“Reggie, she forgave you. And trust me, Y/N wouldn’t be with you if she thought you had done it on purpose.”
You knocked on the garage door. “Reg, you in there? We’re gonna be late to rehearsal!”
“Yeah- yeah, I’m coming, I’ll meet you in the car babe!” He hollered back.
There's no hurry anymore
When all is said and done
Then he did something unexpected. Something unscripted. You just felt him pulling you in and dipping you down, and for a moment in one amazing kiss, the audience wasn’t there.
You pulled away, smiling and breathless as the audience cheered.

hey I just recently discovered your treknatural edits and I wanted to say you are now my favourite person ever!!! but I gotta ask: for the group one, the one with charlie and kevin and all of them, which scene is the original? I just watched the movie and I know that scene I thought, but it looks so different?
haha, aww thank you! I enjoy making the treknatural edits a lot so I’m glad you like them! As for your question... I think you’re referring to this one, right?
Tumblr media
The original scene is from Star Trek 2009. They’re all discussing what to do next or something and Spock walks in. The original screencap I used was this one I believe:
Tumblr media
...and a whole lot of different screencaps from supernatural of course. To be honest I’m actually really proud of this one since I changed a lot of things apart from the uniform colors and the heads and it still looks decent imo.
For example, editing Sam was tricky since he had to be much taller than John Cho is in this shot.
Also, I had to dress Dean in a Star Fleet uniform. At first I only put his head on the black shirt and was about to call it a day, but then I was like: Nah, he needs the uniform or it just looks weird out of context. So I painstakingly edited the uniform on top of the black shirt Chris Pine is wearing.
I also really love Kevin in this for some reason, but his shirt is the wrong shade of blue which is unfortunate. It just didn’t work out the way I wanted it to.
Charlie was also kinda difficult and I still don’t like the way her uniform looks as well, but at that point I was just tired of this edit so I stopped tweaking and just posted it :’)
Sorry, I’m rambling again... but I hope this still answers your question?

hi noa, hope your firefighters are winning!!!
ok these answers are gonna be about my wip that I’ve been calling “wife dean fic” but that’s titled “men like me,” which is an alternate s13 in which dean says yes to au michael during the widow arc
4: Share a sentence or paragraph from your writing that you’re really proud of (explain why, if you like)
I just really like this bit from dean and cas’s reunion. “did it look cool like in the movies” ass
But out of the corner of his eye, Dean sees Michael’s true form lunge, and Jack yelps, and the world dissolves into nothingness.
An eyeblink later, the three of them are back in the bunker, and Jack’s saying “Oh, I guess I can fly with passengers now! Cool,” and Dean’s saying, automatic, “I told you, flying sounds stupid. Call it teleporting. Like Star Trek,” and then it all becomes too much for him, the fight and Michael and the inexpert flying and the way he froze all over when Cas appeared, and he’s throwing up on the war room floor.
20: what’s some meta (themes, symbolism, characterization) you want to ramble to people about?
one of the things im trying my best to get right is having jack learn “do as I say, not as I do” from Sam. sam considers jack worth standing up for in ways where he won’t stand up for himself, and protects jack in ways where he’s willing to throw his own life away. and Jack’s learning from Sam’s actions, not his words
3: what is one scene you’ve always wanted to write but can’t be bothered to write all the set-up and context it would need? (consider this permission to write it anyway)
THANK you for this question which I will shamelessly use to post a scene that it’s killing me to cut bc I had to cut the context. below the cut, a newly vampired Max Banes talks hunting with dean. it’s from an earlier version where sam’s hunter community is made of OG hunters not au hunters, but I ended up having to use au hunters as a shorthand. SOME version of this scene is going in my next (banes-centric) fic, i hope!
“You’re taking this pretty well.”
Max gives a short laugh, like he’s testing it out to see if he can find the humor in it. Dean isn’t sure if he succeeds. “Yeah, well. Vampires. Kinda hot, honestly, maybe I’ll pull better with a certain type of guy.”
“You sure you want that type of guy? I’ve met the kind of chicks who are into that Twilight crap, and man, they are not worth the effort.”
“Yeah.” Max’s mouth turns down at his reflection in the rearview mirror, and then he bares his fangs consideringly. “Not exactly Edward Cullen, but this is cooler. More useful than his teeth on a hunt until I can get it fixed, I’ll tell you that for nothing.”
“You’re still hunting?”
“Hah. Yeah, I get why that would be surprising. You, I know you have some sort of demon trauma, whatever. Me and Alicia, we weren’t raised to hunt monsters, though. We were raised to hunt witches. And witches are, they’re fuckin’ human, man. I don’t know.”
He pries up his lip to study the way his fangs retract in the mirror, avoiding Dean’s eye. Not that Dean is too interested in interrupting, anyway. He’s no good when people get philosophical about whatever got them this far in the life, so he tends to clam up and let them say what they’re going to say. They usually do.
Max isn’t an exception. “You know I was fifteen,” he says, his voice carefully conversational, “the first time I put Mama’s sawn-off against the back of a man’s neck. By that time, he’d killed eight people. Low-level hex bags, pretty amateur stuff, but the victims had no way of stopping him. I did. So I stopped him.
“I got home and I told Alicia what I did, and she just started crying. Like, instant waterworks, I’ve never seen her like that before or since. And I just knew she was thinking, I’m a witch. What if someone does that to me? What if it’s you?
“So after that, Alicia and me took a long vacation from our mom. She was pretty pissed, but she understood. And we decided, you know, that we would keep doing what we were trained to do, but not if we could help it. If we can bind witches, we bind them. If we can reason with them, we reason with them. If they’re just some poor idiot who needs to be taught or threatened into not getting into more than is good for them, we do that. But if not--” Max cocks an imaginary shotgun, the gesture practiced and ironic. “I’m not stupid. I know we’re probably going to hell for being judge, jury, and executioner. But we do our best to keep people from getting killed, either by witches or, you know. Me.”
Dean lets the silence stretch out. Tries to picture sudden, unstoppable tears on Alicia’s face, where he’s only ever seen determination or a cocky grin. Thinks about Dad telling him he might have to put Sam down like a mean dog that can’t be trusted. Thinks about Jack--
Max shoots a glance at Dean in the rearview mirror and glances down, looking suddenly self-conscious. He flips his sunglasses back on, too studied a gesture to be as nonchalant as he wants it to come off. “Look at me, giving you my whole sob story when I know you’ve seen worse. You old-school hunters, man, you’re the most emotionless, John Wayne bastards I ever met. You still wash your wounds with whiskey or are you not too cool for store-brand antibiotics?”
Dean feels a pang at that. The guy’s got him wrong, not that he knows how to communicate that. “Nah, cool won’t cure an infection, I learned that the hard way. And. You know.” He glances over at Max, catches him fidgeting with the arm of his sunglasses. Wills him to understand the hand he’s reaching out to Max. “Tough thing for a kid to do. Any kid.”
Max lets out a short breath, surprised. “Yeah, well. Guy had it coming. At least if I have to kill a witch, I know they dug their own grave. Creatures, though, they sound like a lot more trouble than they're worth. Don’t know how you can tell which ones are gonna be a problem.”
“You can’t,” Dean says. “Some hunters put down any they can get their hands on. Some let ‘em go if they seem harmless enough. Sam and I’ve done a little of both.” And both have gone bad on us, Dean thinks but doesn't say. Both have left him waking up feeling like a heavy weight was pressing down on him, a weight of something he did, a worry that he let a killer go.
“Well, I promise not to bite anyone that doesn’t deserve it, and you promise to tell me if you’re going through one of your kill-anything-with-fangs phases, deal?”
“I wouldn’t do that to you, man,” Dean says, low. Something in his voice makes Max look to him, then back out the window again.

"And then, uh... yeah. Then your dad showed up. Saved our asses, like he always does." Dean leans back until his head clangs against the hollow metal behind him. "You can always ask him, you know? Cas would tell you if he really didn't wanna talk about sonething."
"I know." Jack's voice echoes ominously close. He's curled up on his side, his forehead pressed up against the warded casing. His hip bumps up against the lid. "I guess I just... wanted to hear stuff from you."
"Well, I am a fantastic storyteller, I'll give you that."
Jack is silent for a moment. Dean hear a poorly disguised sniffle.
"Crackerjack. Hey."
"Mm-hm." Jack hums a wobbly acknowledgment.
"I promise, I'm looking. We all are." Dean says. "I'm not giving up on you."
Jack tries to regain control of his breathing. Never once had Dean reflected on Sam's time without a soul and thought it was easy. But the thing is, Sam never cried.
Jack's cried at least once a day since they locked him in here.
"I really didnt mean to hurt her..." Jack sobs. It hurts that he has so much control over it. Dean doesnt want to think about what made him learn to cry silently.
"No, hey, c'mon, I know you didn't, I know." Dean picks at a rusty spot on the corner of the box. "No one blames you for that. Mom's gonna be fine."
Dean hears the sounds of Jack shifting around in the cramped space. It takes everything in him not to tear the lock off with his bare hands.
Dean looks up at the ceiling, and closes his eyes. He thinks of a younger body, less creaking knees and aching spine, of a whirring ceiling fan, and a cot, and a bottle of Gatorade, and an out of his mind little brother, begging for freedom.
"It's almost over, Sammy... I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I promise it's almost over..."
It was a lie then, and it would be a lie now.
"I'm sorry it's so small. I know you hate that."
Jack's elbow knocks loudly against the siding. "Its okay."
Dean puts his hand up against the side of a Ma'lak box near Jack's head. "You seen Star Trek, kid?"
"No." Jack says. "Is it like Star Wars?"
Dean's scoffs. "Uh, it's way better than Star Wars, dude, you're missing out." Jack makes a little disgruntled noise that Dean decidedly ignores. "Listen, just put your hand up against the side, okay?"
"Okay." Theres a small thump. Dean can start to feel the heat bleeding through.
"My hands right there next to yours, kid. You feel it?"
"Um... yeah. Yeah, I do! It's warm..." Jack says the word like he's forgotten what it meant until now.
"This is the Star Trek thing. We're doing it right now, you and me."
"We are?"
Dean separates his fingers, in a shaky imitation of the Vulcan salute. "Yeah. Sure are, kiddo."
Jack does his best to hide the tears in his voice. "I like it."
"Yeah, well... we'll watch it together when you're better, okay? I promise." Dean's found that saying 'when you're better' leads to less meltdowns. He'll take what he can get.
"I just..." Dean sighs. "This isnt a punishment. Okay? We're trying to keep you safe, that's all."
"I know." Jack says.
And he does know.
And it hurts worse, somehow.
Dean keeps his hand there because it's all he can think to do. He's never been any good at just being there. If he's not doing something; not getting water, or blankets, or cooking food, or turning on a favorite movie, he feels useless.
Theres no way to take care of Jack in the Ma'lak box. The only thing he can be brought, is company.
"Will you tell me another story about Castiel until I fall to sleep?" Jack asks.
"Yeah. Yeah, of course I will." And Dean starts to ramble on and on again. It's something he can give.
Ten minutes go by, and Dean hears the clunk of Jack's hand hitting the bottom of the box, and the quiet sound of reverberating snores.
And for a moment, he could close his eyes again, and hes right back there in that panic room. Telling Sam stories about Dad. Some true, some not as true.
He stands up and his knees creak. A reminder of the present.
Dean lays his plam flat against the ugly carved symbol atop the Ma'Lak box, for just a moment.
"Sweet dreams, kid."
