Condition me to find playing with my breasts relaxing. Start by massaging them along with my back after I come home from a long day, while talking softly to me, reassuring me that you'll always help me through rough times. 'It feels good, doesn't it?' Then slowly transition to making me do it myself, you'll take care of my back and shoulders, and I'll handle my breasts. This is something I can do any time I'm stressed out, any time I have a private moment. It's ok, I don't have to think of this as feminizing, its just basic bio-chemistry. Breast massages cause a release of oxytocin, one of the feel good hormones. Lie to me when I notice my breasts start getting bigger. Just buy me better, more restrictive binders as gifts. When I start lactating, comfort me, and shower me with adoration and appreciation. Buy me a breast pump, so that I can empty my tits before work every morning, it would be embarrassing for me to leak at the office, wouldn't it? Hold my hand as you guide me into this spiraling catch 22. I need to milk myself to pass at work -> milking increases my milk production -> I have to milk myself more and more in order to squeeze into my binders. What a cruel cycle you've tricked me into. -sleepy anon
I wouldn't be a good partner if I didn't do my best to help you relax. Before even suggesting the breast massages - knowing that they might make you dysphoric - I'd have already gotten you some herbal supplements to help with anxiety. You know, chamomile, fenugreek, blessed thistle, that kind of thing.
Once they started, though, I'd be sure that we made it a habit. It would be so kind of me to set aside part of every day to massage your back (is it feeling a little more strained than it used to?) as you took care of the parts you could reach. And I'd remind you that you needed to do that, to help your body relax after you were wearing a binder all day - so many people hurt themselves with those.
I hope it would be during one of those sessions that you got the first drops. I'd be there to reassure you, to comfort you, to take your mind off of it by fucking you full of cum (when did I get so hard?), and to lovingly lick the milk off of you so that you didn't feel like your new bodily functions made you undesirable.
From there... It would be simple, wouldn't it? You just need to pump more. A girl AFAB person can only produce so much milk, you know - you just have to get it all out. I'd support you with the logistics. I'd buy you new binders... or nursing bras, but only because it'll make things easier for you at work, babe. I'd be so supportive, compassionate, loving.
I'd even try to stifle a laugh when you leaked milk from your swollen teats as you came on my cock.

what are the plot beats of bonefall tpb? i know youve mentioned its very politically focused, but what does the story really look like (if youve got that hammered out yet)?
It's very similar to Canon TPB in terms of plot beats, it's the least reworked arc because I think it's the one that needs the least amount of fixing. Even as-is I think it's a really good narrative against isolationism that just has some moderate stumbles (namely the introduction of BloodClan as the endgame enemy)
The majority of its problems come from its treatment of disability and its... terribly written romance. Even ships that should check out in theory like FireSand I think are just... frustrating at best.
So anyway I'll walk you through the changed plot beats off the top of my head. I'll also make some off-brand title changes for fun
Book 1: Into the Clans
Fireheart is aware of BloodClan to begin with and knows about their warnings of Clan Cats
Smudge has actually been seeing Spottedleaf in the darkness of the forest, she looks like an apparition of death because of her leaf-blight spots and bone-shaped markings
To begin with, more time is spent on Firepaw's apprenticeship before deposing Brokenstar
We're introduced to Channeling, which is an illegal way to contact a spirit... if they're willing to come when called. Spottedleaf does this to try and talk to her brother.
Redtail is not helpful because he is a jerk. Fireheart learns to not be afraid of death because of Spottedleaf's blithe attitude towards it
I also plan to establish at some point here that Longtail and Sandpaw's dads are Runningwind and Redtail and have Firepaw realize that the death of Redtail has affected them deeply
He considers this because he does not know what it is like to have a single dad let alone two, but if it's like losing a mom that's rough
Spottedleaf, Lionheart, and Rosetail die in the same raid where the Frostfour are snatched
Fireheart joins that patrol to retrieve the Frostfour from ShadowClan. Bluestar is on it, also.
Deerfoot is established as a rebel and Tangleburr as a Brokentail loyalist.
Deerfoot and many others don't like what Brokenstar has done, but he's a popular leader and they need help getting rid of him
Bluestar agrees to send the reinforcement they need. Tigerclaw is upset about this, citing that Clans aren't supposed to meddle in the affairs of others. They should just take the kits back honorably
An explanation of the ancient tradition of kit-stealing is given to Firepaw, which he is horrified by, but then he tunes back in to Bluestar rebuffing Tigerclaw with the Queen's Rights. He bows his head and agrees.
After Brokenstar is dethroned, Fireheart is named, and uses tarspot-blighted sycamore leaves to channel Spottedleaf for the first of many times.
Book 2: Blood and Water
Fire and Ice is basically unchanged, WindClan is retrieved, Silverstream is introduced, Cinderpaw and Brackenpaw apprenticed (though they are not below 6 moons this time), Brokenstar blinded, Cloudkit acquired, etc, but there's minor changes to motivations of scenes.
For example, the scuffle that gets Whiteclaw killed is an example of the Right of Challenge in action... and also Deadfoot and Leopardfur are equally matched the abelism in this fight bothers me.
Customary Deadfoot bonkening. All of his opponents get bonked once.
Graystripe's utter failure to train Brackenpaw is not forgotten, this is remembered. Fireheart is also asked to fill the role of Brackenpaw's mentor during the Warriorship ceremony later
Cloudkit is raised by Fireheart alone, Brindle just suckles him because Fireheart can't make milk.
Brindleface's kits are swapped! Ashkit is born later; the childhood friends of Cloudtail are Elderberry and Ferncloud.
Book 3: Old Secrets
In general THIS is the book where we would get an actual description of Thistle Law and its name
Fireheart also learns about Bluestar's Forget-Me-Nots, her old group of friends, and he starts to piece things together quicker than in canon.
For newcomers: The Forget-Me-Nots were a friend group of Bluestar, Deadfoot, Ashfoot, Barley Sr, Lizardstripe, and Oakheart. Her love of these people is what causes her to lead the way she does, helping all clans in a way unlike any other leader before her.
Similar to canon this is the book where Silverstream dies, Graystripe leaves, Tigerclaw is exiled, and Brokentail is poisoned. Not much else is different.
Book 4: Rising Fire
Runningnose does a little bit of epidemic. As a treat. Kills Cinderfur and Nightstar and installs Tigerstar
This is the book where Longtail starts to rise up as a close ally of Fireheart, more reliably than his younger sister Sandstorm who has more of her own mind.
The apprenticing of Elderpaw and Fernpaw is changed; Dustpelt is too young to have an apprentice and is rewarded for his loyalty by becoming the secondary apprentice of a Clan builder.
Frostfur gets Elderpaw, Darkstripe gets Fernpaw
Dustfern does not happen while Fernpaw is an apprentice, ick. She admires him one-sidedly while he is a young warrior arguing loudly with her awful mentor, though.
Snowkit is given some extra personality as being serious like his mom, and quite religious.
He is also a friend of Tawny and Bramble.
His death after the forest fire by a hawk is unchanged; and the start of Bluestar's cruelty arc.
We get Littlecloud and Whitethroat's thing, Cloudpaw's abduction, the beginning of Bluestar's cruelty arc, the forest fire, RiverClan sheltering them, and the deaths of Snowkit, Yellowfang, and Runningwind largely unchanged.
Book 5: Paths Chosen
Who_Let_The_Dogs_Out.mp4
Bluestar's cruelty arc continues
Ashfur is born in this book
Graystripe refuses to let Leopardstar murder Fireheart and is exiled; his kittens remember this
Cloudtail is made a warrior and Swiftpaw and Brightpaw go play with puppies
IMPORTANT: Brightpaw's "Dishonor Title" is SWIFTHOUND, it has nothing to do with her scarring. Her actions got Swiftpaw killed and that is what is dishonorable about this. Scars are a desirable trait in this rewrite.
It's a dare to StarClan; take her as Swifthound or make her live with this name.
Shuffle: Tigerstar lays claim to his kits after Swiftpaw dies, that was his oldest son and he says that ThunderClan is not capable of protecting his children
Shuffle: Sandstorm is the new mentor of Tawnypaw, Brackenfur is too young.
Firestar is aromantic, no confession scenes. These two actually have kittens together later as a form of honor-siring with coparenting.
They do the dog relay race, Elderpaw replaces Ashpaw because Ashkit is literally baby rn
Longtail replaces Graystripe on this race because Longtail's got zoomies and Graystripe's extra thick; NOT a runner.
Bluestar dies
Also as a side note the redux of Bluestar's Prophecy opens up right here, with Lizardstripe playing as her defense lawyer in StarClan and the trial framing the story. Thistleclaw also LEAVES StarClan in that book in protest to Bluestar being allowed in.
Book 6: Hour of Need (but also it would be funny if this one was called Before The Dawn and then TNP opened up with Dawn lmao)
Tigerstar actually offers BloodClan land in exchange for them helping him. This is important.
Fireheart evolves into Firestar like canon
Sorrelkit's poisoning results in her developing epilepsy after this, which will follow her for the rest of her life.
TigerClan officially forms... though I am thinking of pushing this back to the previous book so it's formed for longer.
The Bonehill is actually a really stupid idea in-universe and cats are working themselves to the BONE HHA to finish this incredibly pointless vanity project
I'm thinking a TigerClan rebel actually fetches Raven, Fire, and Gray to get them to help save the prisoners. Unsure who; maybe Primrosepaw or Reedpaw.
Execution of Stonefur like canon
There are several TigerClan rebels, one of which is Deerfoot, who help the Halfclans escape. Jaggedtooth is another, Primrosepaw, Reedpaw, Pikepaw, and Mosspelt as well.
In escaping, the only cat captured is Deerfoot
He refuses to rat out the other rebels, saving their lives, and is executed for it
Tangleburr is distraught
Later, WindClan is attacked and Gorsepaw dies.
Laterer Tigerstar gets unzipped by Scourge
AND THIS IS THE BIGGEST CHANGE;
Firestar calls to speak to Scourge, to ask what it is he really wants
He essentially learns that Scourge is sick of the dishonor of Clan cats, he was promised forest and he will have it. Diplomacy breaks down and the battle must happen
When Firestar and Scourge fight, Firestar dies once, revives, and beats him by ripping the collar off, but sparing his life.
"A true warrior does not need to kill to win their battles"
Scourge calls for a retreat
The Clans Win; but a lot of cats died on both sides
Longtail, not Graystripe, becomes deputy
Epilogue is ThunderClan, WindClan, and occasionally ShadowClan (but they're difficult) engaging in diplomacy with BloodClan, including trade and foraging rights.
Aaaaaaaand there you have it! Bonefall TPB summarized. If something wasn't mentioned here (like Tawny defecting) you can assume it happened in the book in a similar way.

Three of my corn plants are making flowers! They’re actually quite elegant plants in a garden setting, by the way. I recommend corn as a garden annual that you just so happen to get delicious treat out of. Plant them sporadically amongst other sun-loving plants of differing heights, spreads, and leaf shape and they’re very nice. I have them interspersed between my wild geranium, purple poppymallow, fireweed, rattlesnake master, purslane, smooth rose, chives, redroot amaranth, anise hyssop, field thistle, compass plant, Canada milk vetch, rough blazing star, and firewheel.
My whorled milkweed is also making flowers, my devil’s tongue cactus is in bloom, my cranberry is making exactly two cranberries, and my clammy groundcherry’s flowers are beginning to go to fruit! My sweet joepyeweed has grown up very tall this year and is making flowers too. My common milkweed is in bloom and smells absolutely heavenly. I don’t think I’d noticed the smell before but I got a whiff of it when I was checking up on that part of the garden, and had to put my nose to several of my plants in bloom until I got to the milkweed. Lovely.
I ate the first of many black raspberries. That one has made a very tall growing cane this year which I know is going to arch over at some point. It was very sneaky last year and managed to make two more of itself despite my efforts (trust me, you don’t want an overgrown raspberry patch), but I’m not going to let it this time. One of my maypops is almost long enough to try and train to grow up the dead pine tree that it is refusing to grow up on its own.

Small kisses trailed up your palm, the kisser's lips rough and chapped due to the cold weather.
Stroking your thumb over Hongjoong's cheek you gave him a warm smile before laughing at the ticklish sensation.
"Stop, Hongjoong. It's ticklish," you whispered, the bright silver light of the moon coming through the windows of your shared bedroom.
"Can't help it," he said, voice breathy and barely audible as his eyes swirled a loving red.
You and Hongjoong had already been mated for a couple of years, running the pack together without any hitches but no matter how much time bled away into the Earth, the love he held in his eyes never seemed to fade away.
The same loving red, the burning passion that you felt through your bond as well. The belief that everything would be alright as long as you two stuck together had carved its way into your chest and nestled between the loving caresses of your mate's touches.
"You're so beautiful," Hongjoong whispered back and pressed his lips to each fingertip, the touch feather-light and delicate.
You leaned forward, pressing your forehead to his, drinking in every feature and line that had made its way onto your mate's face.
"I love you," you said, every pent up emotion being released into those few words that Hongjoong would never get tired of hearing.
"I love-"
"(Y/n)!" A distressed Yeosang burst into your arm, causing Hongjoong to growl slightly and cover your t-shirt clad figure with his body.
Yeosang's words died in his throat as he took in his pack leaders' states, a slight blush making its way onto his face as he raised his hands and backed out the door before you got out of bed, pulled a pair Hongjoong's shorts on and dismissed your growling alpha with a flick of your hand.
"What is it Yeosang?" You asked, growing slightly panicked at the thought of something happening to one of your packmates.
"Nothing, luna," he gave a nervous smile to Hongjoong who was still glaring daggers at the boy.
"Hongjoong, stop," you said, glancing back at your mate who just huffed and flopped back onto the bed.
"Is someone injured?" You asked, causing Hongjoong to sit up quickly, muscles taut as he got ready to go out and protect his pack, his mate.
"No..." Yeosang trailed off and rubbed the back of his neck before he produced a few burnt hairs that were lying in his palm.
"Seonghwa got hurt?" You shrieked, rushing back to pull Hongjoong out of bed.
"Ah, no, I may have burnt his hairs off myself?" Yeosang said, unsure of his actions as well.
"What do you mean?" You asked, hand slipping from Hongjoong's who just grabbed it again with a roll of his eyes.
"It means, my love that our healer Yeosang here, was trying one of your potions again and burnt Seonghwa's hair," Hongjoong said and pulled you back into bed, nosing your neck and kissing the red mating mark.
You shivered, pulling away from your mate and looking at Yeosang with wide eyes.
"Really? Again? I hope it's a joke this time," you said, but the shy smile on Yeosang's face and San suddenly coming through the door told you that it was not.
"Come on, boys. I have some of the cure left over from last time," you said, sighing and giving Hongjoong a kiss before turning to look at the boys.
"I'll be back, love," you whispered and interlaced your hands together before Hongjoong gave you a smile and kissed your locked hands.
"Come back soon," he said and you laughed.
"Always."
Hongjoong wasn't sure when exactly you came back to bed, having fallen asleep while waiting. But seeing you curled up against his chest in the morning was a sight he could watch on repeat for twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week and still never get bored of it.
Rubbing his eyes with his fingers, he stretched his arms above his head before he heard you shift next to him.
"Joongie?" You called and patted the pillow next to you, a small frown taking over your lips when you weren't able to feel himself.
"I'm right here, love," he said and laid back down, turning to face you.
"When did you get back last night?" He asked, causing you to laugh, the sound being dry and almost hopeless.
"Not soon enough," you replied, sighing and then getting out of bed to stretch your limbs.
"The damage was worse than I thought so Seonghwa's going to be in wolf form for a couple of days," you said and Hongjoong winced, huffing at the endearing nuisance his younger packmates were.
"I'm guessing that's not the only thing?" He asked and you let out a weak snort, rolling your eyes.
"What do you take your boys for?" You asked and shook your head.
"Of course that wasn't the only thing. They burned through half my herbs and now I have to go herb picking earlier than I had scheduled," you said, rubbing your hands all over your face with a huff.
Hongjoong nodded and pressed a kiss to your forehead before giving you some clothes to change into. He always loved it when you wore his clothes, the primal instinct in him coming to life when he knew that other lycans would be able to smell him on you.
"I'm pretty sure the boys are waiting for us," he said and sent you off to the bathroom with a little smack on your behind.
The house was eerily quiet as you and Hongjoong walked down the stairs. Something about the situation had Hongjoong's wolf itching at the surface and you could feel his unease through your bond.
Placing your into his, you muttered a small spell, one you had to keep memorised after being mated to Hongjoong for so long. The alpha who got protective and riled up at everything had to be kept calm and while a mate's presence often helped, you knowing a calming spell was just the cherry on top.
"Stop calm spelling me," Hongjoong muttered under his breath before pinching you on the arm slightly, causing you to yelp and pull away from him, only for him to pull you back and wrap his arms around you.
"What're you going to do if we're attacked and I'm all calm under your touch?" He asked, nosing at your throat, his fingers caressing your bare spine under his t-shirt. The feeling sent electrical impulses down your spine, making all snarky replied and bit backs die in the back of your throat.
Hongjoong knew exactly how to get you, where to touch to make sure you felt everything and he always took advantage of it, the sneaky lycan.
"I'm sure I'll be able to take the attackers you're talking about myself," you replied back, clearing your throat and pulling away from him to clear the cloudy haze that was beginning to seep in.
"I can't believe Seonghwa just saw all that," San said, his voice horrified as he took in his pack alpha and luna standing at the landing of the staircase feeling each other up.
"Uh, good morning," you said and cleared your throat, walking into the kitchen and taking a seat next to Yeosang who was petting Seonghwa's big brown wolf.
Pulling a few pieces of fruit and toast onto your plate, you thanked the Earth for its offering before smiling down at Seonghwa who was gazing at you intensely.
"How are you feeling today?" You asked, stroking the patch of fur around his air that was shorter and more coarse than the rest.
The wolf huffed and took the piece of toast off your plate before sitting down next to you.
"Rude wolf," you muttered under your breath and reached forward to take another piece of toast.
"Seonghwa's just annoyed because he saw everything you and Hongjoong did on the landing," San said and smirked at the pack alpha who just bared his teeth at his younger packmate.
"I'm sorry you had to see that, Seonghwa," you cooed and bent down to pet the giant wolf as he nuzzled into your hand.
Although you, Seonghwa and Wooyoung had gotten off on the wrong foot, both of them were now the closest to you, save for Yeosang and San.
They often helped you collect ad sort herbs if Yeosang was ever busy.
"The weather's really nice today," Jongho said, earning curious glances from his fellow packmates.
"And?" Hongjoong asked, munching on a piece of toast.
"Why don't we go out into the forest? Seonghwa is already in his wolf form and it'll be nice to run free for a while," the younger suggested, earning a sideways glance from Seonghwa who had now sauntered up to San.
You nodded and stood up, gathering your basket and coming back to the table. Meanwhile, the boys helped Hongjoong clean the dishes before they stepped outside into the bright winter sun, weather windy but sky blue.
"What herbs do you need?" Hongjoong asked and you gave him a pointed look, glancing at the boys who had now taken on their wolf forms, their furs shining under the sun.
"Just the usual, sage, echinacea, milk thistle flowers and others," you said and Hongjoong tilted his head questioningly, not quite understanding any of the plants you were naming.
"Just ask Yeosang, make it a punishment," Hongjong mumbled, pressing a kiss to the side of your forehead before running up to the others in his white wolf form.
While you wanted to go across the pack lands, one huff from Hongjoong made you roll your eyes at his protectiveness, choosing to stay within the boundaries instead.
The wolves all bathed under the sun, ears lax on their heads as some snoozed while others just rolled around, tails wagging like happy puppies.
Bending down to dig some of the roots out, you heard a low growl come from behind you before you frantically stood up, rushing to where your mate and packmates were being petted by some very enthusiastic forest spirits, the lingering tinkle of laughter in the air.
"Yunho, the puppies are so cute," Mingi cooed, stroking Hongjoong on the hair, the wolf growling at the spirit.
"I agree! Who's a good boy, are you a good boy," Yunho asked, his voice rising in pitch as he scratched behind Seonghwa's ears, the wolf releasing purring sounds before they changed into scratchy growls.
"Hey, boys," you greeted, tucking the basket over your arm before making your way over to your mate, sitting down next to the enormous white alpha.
"Sorceress," Mingi yelled, stroking some strands of hair from your face before pulling out a small bouquet of chamomile flowers.
"We found them growing near your old house, figured you might need it," he said and dropped it in your basket before sticking his tongue out at Hongjoong.
The wolf huffed, shifting to rest his heavy head in your lap as you moved to thread your fingers through his fur.
"Thank you, boys," you said, smiling at the two forest spirits who were now bothering Jongho.
"Are there any more herbs you need?" Yunho asked, floating over to you, a look of mirth in his eyes as Jongho tried to nip at Mingi's arm.
"Some lavender would be nice," you shrugged, missing the nice fragrance of the purple flowers.
"Ah, those are hard to come by," Yunho said, thinking hard about where lavender could be located in the forest.
"Maybe even some tree bark," you said and saw from the corner of your eyes as Yeosang and San perked up.
"Those are located near the lake," Yunho said and you nodded before pointing to Hongjoong's big white wolf who was snoozing on your lap, snores coming from his nose.
Before you could move his head, Yeosang and San jumped up with happy yips, sauntering towards the lake to pick the tree barks you had requested.
Prideful wolves...
You rolled your eyes, before lying down in the grass, Seonghwa coming up and lying next to your head, his large paws heavy as they rested on your arms.
"How are you feeling?" You asked, tone soft as you looked at a sleeping Hongjoong.
The brown wolf made some foreign noise before rolling over onto his back. You laughed and scratched his belly, his large furry tail wagging at the sensation.
The sky had taken up an orange hue by the time San and Yeosang and returned, various bunches of roots, leaves and barks handing from their mouths.
"There you guys are," you said, smiling at the other pack members who were now bidding you goodbye.
"Where have you been?" You asked, handing them each a shirt and a pair of shorts.
"Tree barks were harder to collect than we thought," San said, emerging from fully clothed and human.
"We picked up whatever we could find," Yeosang added, handing you muddy clumps of plants.
You gazed at the plants, separating them with your fingers when you felt hands wrap themselves around your waist.
"Hey, love," Hongjoong said, planting some kissed up your neck before setting his head above your shoulder.
"Hi," you greeted back, kissing the side of his head before looking at the two boys standing in front of you.
"Uh," you stuttered, looking at Yeosang with a pained look.
"Do you even read the guide of herbs I had given you?" You asked, petting your hands rest on top of Hongjoong's.
"Yes?" He said, making it sound more like a question.
"Then you will know that these are poisonous," you said, holding up some roots by their leaves.
Hongjoong snorted, hiding his face in your shoulder trying his best to control his laugh as Yeosang fidgeted under your gaze.
"How was I supposed to know?" He said and looked to Hongjoong who just laughed.
"You are supposed to know because you're the one who's learning the art of witch healing," San bit back before taking the roots from your hands and retreating into Hongjoong and your house.
"Ah, I'm sorry (Y/n)," Yeosang flushed, picking up the other plants and then rushing behind San.
You turned to Hongjoong with a smile on your face as the sky turned a dark pink, the orange bleeding into red which would ultimately turn black.
"Your packmates are crazy," you said, cupping your mate's cheeks.
"Our packmates, love," Hongjoong laughed, kissing your palms, as he pulled you close.
"Quite right," you said, connecting your arms around his neck, pulling him close for a kiss.
"I love you, my lovely mate," Hongjoong whispered, the shared promise of forever hanging from the hushed words.
"I love you too."

Good noon my beloved<3 you need to know that I chose this poem while eating the best pastry in the galaxy. So the poem choice might have been influenced by that. Yeah. I love pastries. Anyway. I love love love this phrase: "I’m looking to cleanse regret." Hope you're having a good day!!
Apology to the Body
Lory Bedikian
Sorry for mercury strewn in veins of fish,
for traces of carbon monoxide loose in the air,
for radiation that circles and enters the aura.
Sorry for deliberate puffs and sips
late in the night, for an empty stomach
burning with coffee grounds,
for words of magma, thoughts rough as tufa
scratching the indivisible cells, fragile nerves,
divisions of labor and function,
for scraping skin until it bled, garnet
scars in constellation form, for chemicals
bathing in a pool of genetics, under viral stars.
I’m looking to cleanse regret. I want to give
you a balm for lesions, give you evening
primrose, milk thistle, turmeric, borage,
feet moving toward a language
of trees, hands deciphering sediment, steady
rhythm back in the pulse, the breathing you knew
before you were born. Believe me that we began
together and I will mend each sheath of myelin,
reverse the dark that grows behind my eyes.
Hello!!!! I didn't see this ask! Sorry! <3
yes to pastries!!!! I love them. And I absolutely love the title of this poem. Apology to the Body- it just sound so bizarre because we tent to apologise to other people and forget that we also deserve an apology. Poeple very ofter empathise with inanimate objects, forgetting that our hands are very much alive

Caw, caw!
The incessant squawking of the crows overhead reverberated annoyingly in Ayame's eardrums. Her mind felt hazy, comparable to a radio that couldn't quite grasp hold of a broadcasting station. Her consciousness came and went, her mind ebbing and flowing as her body lay still against the soiled marble floor.
Above her, another crow walked closer to the opening in the ground. Its skeletal feet tapping a pebble curiously until it fell into the hole, plummeting through the air and bouncing off the split ground, inches from Ayame's face. She stirred, a groan escaping her chapped lips. She licked them, opening a sage-colored eye lazily.
Carefully, she peeled her cheek from the stone and sat up, feeling disoriented. Her body felt heavy. Her eyes settled on the remains of a man a few feet from her; his figure wrapped tightly in her lush vines, his skin gray. She felt nausea stir within her stomach, burning the back of her throat with acid. Quickly, she swallowed, taking a deep breath at the overwhelming reality around her.
Suddenly, the pieces of her memory came together like two magnets, her neck quickly snapping over to a mass of gray hair at the recollection of Kakashi. Ayame quickly scrambled over to him, gravel digging into her knees as she crawled across the floor.
"Kakashi," she breathed, looking down at his motionless body. She wasn't sure how long she had been out, maybe a few minutes, or maybe longer. She didn't want to think about it.
"Kakashi," she called his name again, patting his face gently. Deep lines had formed under his eyes, a hue of purple dusting his cheekbone. She carefully placed two fingers under his neck, feeling for his pulse. It was faint. His hair was matted to his forehead with sweat and blood.
"Kakashi," escaped her lips, feeling panic building. She forced it away, composing herself as she unzipped his jonin jacket and put her head to his chest. His body was warm against her ear. His heart was still beating. The thought of losing this man she had just met overwhelmed her. She thought of how the village would react to his death, knowing she had been the one to lead them out here.
Thump, thump.
Amatoxins, you know.
Thump, thump.
Ayame's eyes opened instantly as she recalled Daichi's words. She sat up, reaching for her backpack and pulling it over her shoulders. Her mind sorted through the laundry list of herbal medications in her bag, dumping its contents on the ground for the second time that day.
Amatoxins from mushrooms, amatoxins, she thought, picking up each vial and processing its remedies in her mind. She picked up the vial of silibinin, milk thistle extract grounded into powder and mixed into water, and a lightbulb went off in her brain. She turned back to him, her chest tightening uncomfortably at the shape he was in. She cursed herself for being unconscious when he needed her. But if she hadn't been so triggered by Daichi's words, would she have still pushed herself to create those vines?
Ayame uncorked the vial and looked down at the silver-haired Jonin. She felt a tightness in her chest as she assessed him. She would have to take his mask off, she realized. She didn't have time to think about it. The more she sat and considered it, the more time ticked away. She was sure he didn't have much time left before the toxins damaged his liver permanently - if it hadn't already.
It felt so personal, like something he would choose to show her after building a bond of trust. But she had no choice. Carefully, she pulled back the fabric of his mask, over the tip of his slender nose and beyond his lips. The realization that she was seeing his face behind his mask produced a blush to creep over her cheeks. Her ears felt hot. She let the material rest over his chin where a little black mole sat. A nagging sense that she was violating his privacy tugged at her. It was either this or nothing, she reasoned.
Reaching down, she tapped at the side of his chin to open and dumped the vial contents into his mouth. She waited a moment, pushing on his throat to ensure he swallowed it despite his unconsciousness. A drip of the antidote trickled from the corner of his mouth, trickling down to his chin. Gingerly, she reached and caught it with a hooked finger, feeling the light stubble at the edge of his chin. She drew away quickly, her skin hot.
Another pebble skidded across the floor from above. Ayame pulled Kakashi's mask up and turned away, feeling another peculiar sense of guilt mixed with a new, unfamiliar yearning to gaze at him all day. She lifted her hand and touched her braid, fiddling with the strands. Pursing her lips, she glimpsed over at the dead shinobi a few feet away again. Vines wrapped tightly around his neck and body; his skin tinted grotesquely. His lifeless, eerie eyes were staring back at her, causing her stomach to roll.
Suddenly, Ayame jumped up to her feet. She ran over to Daichi's body, tripping over the sensation of how heavy her legs felt. She realized everything required to make the flower the Konoha shinobi needed was right there in front of her. Reaching down, she snatched the scroll out from Daichi's thick fingers, adrenalin flooding through her as she quickly sprinted towards the exit where they had come from. She felt a ping of guilt leaving Kakashi and looked back at him. He would be alright, she reasoned. She just needed to give the antidote time to work. He would want her to do this first rather than save him anyway.
The stale air of her old village greeted her nose again in full force as she reached the top of the ladder. Looking around, she noticed his ninja hounds in the distance, far away from the site of the wreckage. He hadn't dismissed them, she realized. She wondered if they had seen or heard any of the commotion from earlier.
"Pakkun," she called out, waving the canine over. The little pug lifted his head from the ground, his pushed-in nose sniffing the air. The other dogs lifted their heads as well, looking over at her. Their diverse shaped faces shifting into various levels of confusion at the sight of Ayame voice calling them and not their master.
"Everything okay?" Pakkun asked, his little bowlegged arms trotting towards her.
"I need someone to keep an eye on Kakashi," she explained breathlessly. She looked around for an empty field. "But I also need someone to deliver this scroll and some flowers to Lady Hokage as soon as possible."
Ayame showed Pakkun the scroll and then pointed to a small field beyond her old home's wreckage.
"I'll take care of it," Pakkun assured her as the other dogs hurried up beside him. Without any direct orders, two of the canine sprinted off in the direction Ayame had come from, their noses following the scent of their master. Ayame watched them for a moment, amazed by their ability to trace his scent.
"What do you need?" Pakkun asked, watching Ayame turn her head back to him. He looked up at her, his tiny beady eyes staring up at her skeptically.
"This way," she said, guiding him over to the field. Kneeling on the wearied grass, she looked down at the scroll in her hand hesitantly. She thought of the small amount of chakra she had manifested through the previous day's exertion and meditation session that morning. She was sure she had already used most of it - killing - that man. She swallowed hard.
There was no turning back now. Kakashi wouldn't be awake for hours, and she certainly couldn't leave him behind or haul his body back to the village before dusk. She chewed at her bottom lip. It was now or never.
"Pakkun," she looked over at him, his little body sitting behind her on the grass. "I'm going to use this scroll to produce these flowers. I need you to pick as many as you can and take them back to Lady Hokage before dusk. She'll need this scroll too. It has directions on it."
"Got it," the small canine nodded, "don't worry."
"And Pakkun," she spoke quietly, looking down at the scroll as she sat on her heels. Worry permeated her bones, sending a chill up her spine that had little to do with the nip of cold air. She wondered if her body would be capable of handling this job after already exerting herself.
"Make sure Kakashi is okay, please," Ayame requested, unrolling the scroll on the ground. Taking a deep breath, she looked down at the scroll.
Stay focused, she remembered. Closing her eyes, her hands molded themselves into the appropriate signs through muscle memory before slamming it to the ground in the center of the scroll.
"Lotus Art: Iyasu Healing Flower!"
A rolling field of purple buds erupted from the dead weeds, the tips of their stems immediately blooming as the crisp breeze swayed them. Dozens of lavender-colored blossoms filled Ayame's blurred vision. Her eyesight tunneled, darkness breathing in and out in unison with her expanding chest. Her body weakened immediately. Her ears buzzed continuously.
Her body fell sideways, the grass rough against the skin of her cheek. As she lifted her eyes before her vision went dark, she watched the brown pug begin to pick the flowers from the ground one by one with his mouth before heading for the horizon with the scroll in his mouth.

A raindrop landed on Kakashi's forehead, hitting his skin and dripping into his hairline. Then another, and another. Slowly, his hooded eyelid fluttered open lazily, his vision clouded. He swallowed, his throat feeling thick and scratchy. His arms and legs felt heavy, like weighted bags attached to his body. He moved his head, his neck aching.
Slowly, he sat up, raking his hand through his silver hair as more raindrops began to fall from the opening above. Kakashi looked up, his memory slowly coming back to him. He felt similar to when he depleted all his chakra, his body feeling weak. Groaning, he took in his surroundings and pulled down his headband.
More rain began to fall. Slowly standing to his feet, Kakashi noticed a lump of plants a few feet away and began making his way towards it. When he reached it, he stood over them, his eyebrows narrowing as he realized what it was: an asphyxiated man tied up tightly with dense green vines. His chest clenched uneasily, remembering the only person who was with him.
"Ayame?" he called out, turning around. His eyes traveled over the broken marble floor; its fractured and split slabs creating a challenging route to travel when your body was as weak as his. He called her name again, walking back through the hallway and into the original room they had entered the cache. His body protested at every step as he climbed the ladder.
His hair matted to his face as he reached the surface, rain pouring down from the milky gray sky. Looking around, Kakashi noticed his ninkin in the distance, nestled in the corner of the remains of a dilapidated building. He lifted himself from the opened hatch, his knees bending in an abnormally painful manner as he moved closer to them.
Bull lifted his head, his large round face wet with rain, as he watched Kakashi hobble over to them.
"What happened?" Kakashi asked, reaching the seven canines. "Why are you all still he-?"
Kakashi's eyes landed on Ayame's back, the collar of her shirt ruffled from the obvious signs of being pulled to a sheltered location. Uhei's long nose protectively laid across her hip, keeping her warm.
Kakashi knelt, his hand hovering over her head as he processed everything. Finally, he placed it on her head, her auburn hair soft under his fingertips. What happened? Why was she up here? Why was she passed out? Had she killed Daichi herself? Kakashi looked to his ninkin; his eye's inviting them to explain.
"Is she okay?" he asked, his voice sounding rough and scratchy. He reflected for a moment on how tight his chest was. Of course, he was concerned for her well-being, but seeing her unconscious disturbed him in an unfamiliar way.
Uhei lifted his head from her hip, pointing his long nose to the field nearby. Kakashi looked over, noticing a few lavender-colored flowers that remained in a field nearby. Those had not been there before, he deduced. His eyes progressed down the path where his ninken had hauled her body to shelter as the rain started to come down harder.
It all clicked in his mind instantly. She had stopped Daichi, recovered the scroll, and produced the flowers herself. He looked down at her, his eyes wide in astonishment. She should be out of chakra by now. His cold hand moved to under her neck, feeling for a pulse in the crease of her warm skin.
Thump, thump, thump. He exhaled, relieved.
"Pakkun?" Kakashi asked his ninken, feeling disoriented from the overload of information he had missed.
The smallest dog, Biscuit, lifted his head to point his snout towards the direction of the village's entrance gate, indicating Pakkun's travel back to the village on their behalf. Kakashi sighed, sitting his bottom on the hard, wet ground.
"I have to get her back to Konoha," he told the dogs.
He felt culpable for leaving her to defend herself in a battle. Despite her coming out on top, things could have ended much differently. He frowned behind his mask. Looking down at her, she looked as though she was sleeping peacefully. Dirt and sweat coated her face and body. The overwhelming desire to keep her safe washed over him as he looked down at her.
Her shoulder rose and fell with each breath she took. Long deep inhales followed by shallow exhales. He reached up, itching his chin through his mask. It felt like there was something sticky on his skin. He pulled his mask down and felt a line of sticky residue from the corner of his mouth to his chin. He wondered what it was.
A warm head laid itself on his leg, nudging his hand with a nose. Kakashi looked down at Biscuit's blond fur resting on his thigh comfortably.
He looked back up at the diverse features of his dog's faces, each set of their round eyes staring at him curiously. Fatigue washed over his body as he leaned against the wall. In the distance, thunder rumbled across the sky. Perhaps they would stay here for the night, he decided sluggishly as his eyes started to close.
He would make sure nothing happened to her tonight.

OLD ENOUGH TO KNOW BETTER

Part Ten
Summary: Baldwin de Clermont manages to upset an ancient hag. He wakes up.. different.
Liv had given Baldwin her business card with her contact details on it, but he waited until Monday morning to call so that he didn’t appear too desperate. She picked up after the second ring, and spent a pleasant few minutes chatting nonsense, when her voice took on an awkard, pleading quality.
‘Listen, I know this is a bit of a liberty, but would you mind doing me a massive favour?’
‘Anything’
‘My assistant’s gone home to her family already and we’ve just received an overdue shipment of product. Would you be able to come round to the shop and help me put all the boxes downstairs? I’m very sorry, but I don’t have anyone else who help’
‘Really, it’s fine’ said Baldwin, ‘I’d be happy to’
He was surprised by just how much he meant it. He heard her smile down the phone line.
‘Thank you! Thanks very much! Would tomorrow be too soon?’
‘No, that’s fine’
‘Perfect, well I guess I’ll see you tomorrow morning around nine, then’
The shop was a two-storey brick and tile construct sandwiched between a bakery and a newsagent. Baldwin vaguely remembered a time when the building had once held a tailor’s shop; now the wooden sign hanging above the door read ‘Blooms et Bric-A-Brac’. A brass bell tolled loudly above the door as Baldwin stepped inside.
________________________________________________________________
Everything smelt of furniture polish and time. Antique collectibles and odd trinkets lay in glass cabinets and on wooden shelves between bottles of organic toiletries and potted plants of various size. The whole shop was a jumbled, eclectic mess, which somehow, worked.
It’s quite...homely.
‘Good morning, is there anything I can help you with today?’
Liv was standing, smiling, behind the counter. Her hair was brushed back into a ponytail, and she had swapped her grey tee for a crisp white collared shirt with the sleeves rolled up.
‘I heard that there was an assistant position available?’ said Baldwin, playing along.
‘I’m very sorry; the position has been filled’
‘Oh, well then’ Baldwin turned back towards the door, ‘I’ll just go-’
‘Wait, wait!’ Liv ran over, laughing, and gently steered Baldwin by the shoulders towards a staircase in the back left-hand corner of the room. A pleasant prickling feeling trickled down his spine.
‘The boxes are down here’
________________________________________________________________
The staircase spiralled down into a small windowless room, with an oak door leading into the rest of the basement, and about thirty cardboard boxes stacked neatly in a pile. The rough stone walls were clean, with a high vaulted ceiling crisscrossed with wooden beams. Baldwin made an appreciative noise.
‘This would make an excellent wine cellar’ he said, glancing around. He looked down at the tiled floor and frowned contemplatively.
‘...Have you sunk the floor? This seems lower than the outside foundations’
‘We have a permit’ said Liv breezily, unlocking the door. Baldwin raised an eyebrow, and followed.
From floor to ceiling, wall to wall, in hanging pots, strung up on wire latticework and set in neat rows in planter boxes on the floor, was a forest of flowers. The smell was overpowering and Baldwin held his nose for a moment, struggling not to sneeze.
‘Oh my god, I’m so sorry, I should have asked!’ Liv gasped. She put a hand on Baldwin’s shoulder; the gentle jostle threw off his control and he let out a booming sneeze, covering his face with the crook of his elbow.
‘Are you allergic to pollen?!’
‘No’ said Baldwin, thickly. He fished a handkerchief out of his coat pocket.
‘Whoo, thank god! Are you ok?’
‘I’ll be fine’ Baldwin gestured towards the underground garden. ‘Quite the setup you have here’
‘It’s mostly for my cousin’
She led him along the edge of the room to a scarred antique desk covered in a complicated set-up of vials, pipettes, and measuring jars. A bowl with a piece of cheesecloth in it, and a well-used saucepan, were placed on a small camping oven on the edge of the desk; books, scraps of paper, and clean empty glass bottles organised by size sat on a bookshelf behind it.
‘Theo makes the perfumes that we sell here. The rest of the plants we use to make creams and lotions, or we put them up for sale'
'Very impressive'
'Thank you!'
________________________________________________________________
It was...nice.
Baldwin helped shift the boxes, stacking them one by one next to each other in a walk-in refrigerator tucked into a side alcove. Liv made a joke about serial killers. He laughed, and passed her another box.
She popped upstairs to help customers while he ripped the sticky tape open with a utility knife and fished out newly-labelled beauty products with ingrediants like milk thistle and aloe vera.
They closed the shop up just before lunch, walking down the city streets until they came to a small café that was Liv’s favourite. They had boeuf bourguignon with potatoes- Baldwin made a mental note to request Marthe make it for him again sometime- and drank Kir Royales while watching pedestrians shuffle past.

Apology to the Body
Sorry for mercury strewn in veins of fish,
for traces of carbon monoxide loose in the air,
for radiation that circles and enters the aura.
Sorry for deliberate puffs and sips
late in the night, for an empty stomach
burning with coffee grounds,
for words of magma, thoughts rough as tufa
scratching the indivisible cells, fragile nerves,
divisions of labor and function,
for scraping skin until it bled, garnet
scars in constellation form, for chemicals
bathing in a pool of genetics, under viral stars.
I’m looking to cleanse regret. I want to give
you a balm for lesions, give you evening
primrose, milk thistle, turmeric, borage,
feet moving toward a language
of trees, hands deciphering sediment, steady
rhythm back in the pulse, the breathing you knew
before you were born. Believe me that we began
together and I will mend each sheath of myelin,
reverse the dark that grows behind my eyes.
Lory Bedikian, 2018.

Hardy x Hannah • 12
Enchantment
#12 Storm clouds
Thank you for the prompt, I hope you like it!
Rating: all-ages
Word count: 2124
Summary: Hannah is a witch afraid to fall in love, until one of her spells backfires in the best of ways.
@tinyconfusion here’s your Practical Magic AU (although maybe not the one you dream of) (early birthday present?)
Ao3
Hannah had swam too far. The cliffs were a mere copper line in the distance. Not a soul on the beach, they’d all gone home for supper.
The water turned grey. It shivered around her, stirred, restless under the gathering clouds.
Hannah swam towards the beach but the undercurrent pulled her back. Waves sucked at the strength in her legs. Rain fell like a lead curtain. She couldn’t tell the sea from the sky, the beach from the horizon.
Panic flared in her guts, short-circuited any rational thoughts. She tried to scream for help but waves slapped her face and salty water splashed into her lungs.
*
In the conservatory of her aunts’ house on the Isle of Wight, a young Hannah— nine and a half years old to be exact— carefully chose her ingredients. A sprig of valerian, a row of foxgloves, a blackberry leaf. And she whispered to herself: “He will hear my call a mile away. He will quote my favourite books. He can see the future in his dreams.”
Jackie walked into the room and watched her sister for a moment. “What are you doing?”
“Summoning up a true love spell called ‘Amas Veritas’,” Hannah replied. She sprinkled dried lavender into her wooden bowl and added a bunch of bluebells to it. “He can flip pancakes in the air. He’ll have a big heart, as big as the world. Too big. And he’ll wear ties all the time.” She added sunflower petals. “And he’ll have golden eyes.”
“I thought you never wanted to fall in love,” Jackie said.
The Baxter women were cursed, any man who fell in love with them was doomed. Or so the family legend said. Was it fate or just an accident that had killed her father? Whatever their mother believed, she’d died of a broken heart. And thus, Hannah promised herself never to fall in love.
But today, she had witnessed a woman begging her aunts to cast a spell on a married man she loved. That woman’s desperation, bordering on madness, had shaken Hannah. There was nothing beautiful or dignified about it. Love dragged you in the mud.
As the woman pierced a dove’s heart, Hannah had decided to take concrete actions to protect herself from love.
“That’s the point,” she explained to her sister. “The bloke I dreamed of doesn’t exist. And if he doesn’t exist, I’ll never fall in love and die of a broken heart.”
She carried her bowl to the balcony on the second floor. The warm night air fluttered the petals, and when she recited the spell, they twirled and rose towards the moon.
*
Hannah coughed up water. Salt stung her throat. Sand chafed her cheek.
“You alright? Miss? Bloody hell, d’you have a death wish?”
With a great effort and a moan of pain, she turned her face towards the voice. A thin man, all scraggly hair and unkempt beard. His tie dangled above her.
The sun came out, piercing the clouds, and illuminated his face. The brown of his eyes shone almost golden.
“How…?” She didn’t have the strength to finish her question.
He helped her to her feet and supported her through the short walk to a small blue house.
As if he’d expected her, there already were towels and blankets in the living room.
“I was folding the laundry,” he explained as he arranged towels over the couch.
She shivered in her bikini, and he promptly draped a knit blanket over her shoulders. Then a second one. He peered into her face— her teeth were chattering— he scrunched up his nose, and covered her legs with a duvet, tucking it tight under her knees and feet.
“What’s your name?”
“Hannah.”
“I’m Hardy… Alec.”
“Thank you, Alec.”
“How are you feeling? You were pretty out of it.”
“I feel… tired.”
“Is there anyone you want to call?”
“I don’t know. Not really.”
Well, there were people she could call, but no one she wanted to. Actually, inexplicably, she wanted to stay right here, in this cozy, seaside shack.
“You can rest here for a while,” he said.
“How did you find me?” she asked.
“I know the harbour master.”
“He came to get you?” That seemed like a strange protocol.
“I heard you calling,” Alec said.
“From here?”
He shrugged and disappeared into a bedroom.
There was something familiar about Alec Hardy that she couldn’t put her finger on.
The files spread on the coffee table told her he was a policeman.
In the full bookcase behind the sofa, she spotted a worn-out copy of Peter Pan and even her first novel. Maybe she’d met him at a book signing. He didn’t seem the type.
Underneath, there was a family portrait, outdoors, at some birthday party. Alec with his daughter and wife. “She looks more like a witch than me,” Hannah mumbled.
Alec had changed into a dark blue jumper, and he tossed another one her way. She’d stopped shivering, but put it on anyway. It smelled of Irish Spring soap.
“The books were there when I moved in,” he said.
“And the family picture?”
“I’m on it, aren’t I?” He offered no further explanation.
She tracked his movements as he prepared two cups of tea in the narrow kitchen. He opened crooked cupboards, searching for saucers, sugar and snacks.
Looking at him was as maddening as having a word on the tip of her tongue.
“Have we ever met?” she asked.
He looked up from the cups he was filling, his eyes wide, and he spilled water from the kettle all over the countertop.
“Shit.” He quickly cleaned up the mess.
He place a cup of tea with two Jammie Dodgers in front of her. “Careful, it’s hot.”
She stirred milk and sugar into it, and the spoon kept spinning much longer than it naturally would. When he noticed it, she put her hand over the mug— she was slipping.
She held the cup in two hands and brought it close to her face, she closed her eyes, basking in its warmth for a moment. The first sip soothed her.
“Are you from Broadchurch?” he asked.
They compared places they’d been to and people they knew, but nothing overlapped. He admitted uncomfortably to appearing in newspapers, but Hannah wasn’t one to keep up with the news. They were complete strangers after all.
Alec was rough around the edges with his scruffy cheeks and sharp nose and blunt questions. She thought of thistles, the floral emblem of Scotland. Still, his actions revealed a genuine concern for her well-being despite his small talk flaws.
“What were you doing out there?” he asked.
“Swimming?”
She took a long sip to dissipate her uneasiness.
“You were very far into the sea. Do you have suicidal thoughts?”
“No! No, don’t worry. Really don’t. I was, er, you know, training for… a swimming competition. Amateur competition. Obviously.”
He quirked an incredulous eyebrow at her excuse and inquired further as only a detective would. Thankfully, he relented when she rubbed her forehead in pain.
If she told him she needed to bathe in the first high tide of the summer equinox to ward off evil, he would laugh in her face.
Hannah always “scanned” her clients to keep the creepy ones away. Somehow, it hadn’t occurred to her to do the same for this handsome man she’d met at a writing workshop. She’d ignored the red flags, chalked it up to his passionate nature. When she finally listened to her fear and tried to break things off, he already knew too much about her to get rid of him easily. She’d had to resort to belladonna and magic.
That bloody spell better have worked because it almost cost her her life.
Thinking back on these events, Hannah decided she wouldn’t make the same mistake twice.
“Can I use the loo?”
In the tiny bathroom, she found a dusty candle that might have belonged to the previous tenants. She blew softly on the wick until a flame blossomed. Then she whispered one of the few spells she knew by heart.
The beating of Alec’s heart echoed in her head. There was something off about it. She sensed anger in the irregular beats. But he was not a bad person, on the contrary, his kindness washed over her mind like the gentlest waterfall.
Her skin goose-pimpled.
“He’s a good one.”
She smiled at her reflection in the mirror and then noticed she looked… well, she looked like someone who’d almost drowned.
She asked Alec’s permission to take a shower, and he lent her sweatpants and a police t-shirt.
The hot water and soap made her feel better in an instant.
She noticed— with some satisfaction— the lack of women’s beauty products in the bathroom.
Hannah braided her hair in loose pigtails and rolled the sweatpants’ elastic waistband low over her hips.
When she came out, he stared for a moment. “Looks better on you,” he said, rather gruffly.
*
Hannah had fallen asleep on his couch, and Hardy didn’t know what to do. He stood beside her, hands on hips, contemplating the situation. He couldn’t possibly wake her up and kick her out of his house after what she’d been through today. And to be honest, he enjoyed her presence. He welcomed it even if she snored. He’d been alone for too long.
The last sun rays descended behind the horizon and momentarily alighted her hair.
He’d heard her call for help from impossibly far away. It didn’t make any sense and yet, somehow, it did. He knew why but the explanation vanished as soon as he tried to grasp it.
He thought of Peter Pan.
“You know that place between sleep and awake, that place where you still remember dreaming…?” he whispered.
He knew the quote by heart from reading the book multiple times in his childhood and then to Daisy, but in this moment he could not finish saying it.
“For God’s sake,” he muttered as he adjusted a blanket over Hannah.
*
In the morning, sunlight bounced off the water surface, slipped through the windows and shimmered on the ceiling. Through blurred eyes, Hannah watched it dance above her for a moment.
How could something so beautiful have nearly killed her yesterday?
A healthy fear and respect of nature was what every witch needed. Perhaps it had been a reminder to not abuse her powers.
A delicious scent pulled her out of her musings. Alec, in a grey t-shirt and PJ bottoms, looked at her from the kitchen doorway.
“You hungry?” he asked.
“Famished.”
“Pancakes?”
Hannah smiled, wide and bright, and jumped to her feet. He returned her smile.
As he cooked the pancakes, she set the little table by the window.
“Let’s see if I can still do this,” he said.
He shook the pan until the pancake slid around then flicked his wrist to make it flip. But the pancake landed on the floor, and all of his good mood vanished in an instant.
“Give it another try,” she encouraged him.
This time, a few words whispered in latin made sure the pancake landed in the pan.
They wolfed down the pancakes and washed it down with coffee, between bites, they chatted some more.
Hannah had a gift to make people talk, and there was nothing magical about it. She asked the right questions and gave people time to reply rather than rush to fill the silence. And in desperate cases she had a go-to, self-deprecating, anecdote that usually put people at ease. She didn’t need it with Hardy, she didn’t want to use it, she wanted to just be herself.
She told him about her ex and coming to Broadchurch to escape.
“I suppose it’s the place to get away from exes,” he said.
He told her, in very few words, about his divorce.
“Why Broadchurch?” she asked.
He scratched his cheek and gave this some thought. “I don’t know… there were other towns where I could’ve worked.”
The question really seemed to bother him, he kept frowning as they carried dishes to the sink.
“Well, if you hadn’t been here, I would’ve been in trouble,” Hannah said.
He gripped the edge of the sink and stared as it filled with bubbles. “Aye.”
“Did I say something wrong?”
“No… maybe you’re right. Maybe I was here to save you.”
She leaned closer. Her arm brushed his, and he looked at her, straight at her. An earnest gaze that made her ribcage feel too small for her lungs and heart.
And she realized, she’d experienced attraction before, but never like this, never more than physical.
“Hannah,” he said softly.
She nodded as a lump rose in her throat. She didn’t understand why.
He cradled her face in his palm, his thumb stroked her cheekbone, and Hannah leaned into his touch.
“I think I know you,” he said.
She stepped closer to him and placed her hand on his heart. “Yes. Somehow.”
“I was waiting…”
“Between sleep and awake.”
He wrapped his arms around her, pulled her closer to him like two puzzle pieces fitting together.
She was in a daze. Everything made sense even if it didn’t. In that moment, the only truth worth believing in was that they’d found each other at last.
Both turned their heads at the same time and, with a sigh, pressed their lips together. Shyly, at first, a chaste kiss, until Hannah licked the syrup off his lips. He pressed her against the counter and deepened the kiss, ravenous after a lifetime of waiting. Each caress of tongue and smack of lips brought to light hints and clues, moments, words, images.
They broke the kiss with a sudden gasp.
“My spell.”
“My dream.”

Although dry skin can be an absolute nuisance, it is not harmful if you take care of it and nourish your skin completely whenever you see the first signs. Your dry, flaky, and itchy skin could be due to factors like climate change or humidity, or even due to lifestyle changes.
