Back cover of the Storrs & Harrison Co. catalog, Painesville, Ohio, Spring 1910. The company was founded in 1881 by J.J. Harrison and Jesse Storrs as a nursery selling plants and seeds. In the late 1800s, they put out 5 catalogs a year through which individuals could order seeds by mail. By 1927, Storrs and Harrison was one of the largest nurseries in the country. It was sold in 1940.

An elderly woman smiles from her porch along North High Street in the University District of Columbus, Ohio. She holds a small kettle in her hand, possibly to water the plants on the railing. The University District includes the small neighborhoods to the east and south of The Ohio State University campus on either side of the High Street corridor.

Taken by traveling photographer Albert J. Ewing, ca. 1896-1912, this photograph shows a large flowering bush, with the phrase "In good old summ[er] time" etched on the glass plate negative. Like most of Ewing's work, it was likely taken in southeastern Ohio or central West Virginia.

Glass slide of a solitary yellow nodding flower, 3/4-1.5" long, composed of 3 petals and 3 sepals, slightly reflexed. 1 pair of smooth, somewhat fleshy, mottled leaves 3-8' long. Height: 4-10". These flowers are perennial and their common name refers to the mottled leaves, which resemble the color pattern of a fawn or brook trout. Also called Yellow Fawn-Lily and Dog-tooth Violet (not a true violet). The leaves and flower stalk grow from bulbs growing 6-15" deep in the soil. This wildflower grows in extensive colonies of hundreds of plants. Widely distributed throughout the state of Ohio. Their habitat is the moist woods and they bloom from March-May.

Portrait featuring Xena for C.! Thank you so much again for trusting me with this, it's been an honour <3 It was lovely to draw these geraniums as well - they've always been growing near me, I've got a lot of nostalgia for these and funnily enough I don't think I've drawn them before!
