My oldest friend got married in January, so I made my way down to sunny Florida to be a bridesmaid in a Disney Fairy Tale Wedding. It’s what she had always dreamed of doing when she got married, and I couldn’t be happier that she got to have her giant, magical spectacle while also knowing that if I were faced with the same scenario on my own wedding day, I’d fake my own death to get out of it. I have never really had a vision of my wedding day because while I’d love to get married one day, I absolutely do not want a wedding.
There’s nothing wrong with big weddings — I understand that joining two lives together is something that many people want to celebrate with their loved ones and that weddings are of huge importance in various cultures, and that’s a beautiful thing. But to me, the thought of being the center of attention makes me break out in hives and the added humiliation of pouring your heart out during one of the most personal and intimate moments of your life while people watch you?! Hideous. I can’t think of anything worse. If I am ever to tie the knot, I want to elope somewhere far away and get married in the presence of absolutely no one.

On May 7, 1990, the series finale of Alien Nation (1989 - 1990) based on the film (1988) of the same name aired. The final episode found human detective Matthew Sikes (Gary Graham) struggling with his feelings over his alien partner George Francisco (Eric Pierpoint) being promoted over him as well as his feelings for the alien Cathy Frankel (Terri Treas). On top of this, the detectives also were looking into possible biological terrorism being used against the alien newcomers. The series only ran for one season of 21 episodes. Something I love about parks & rec is that none of the wedding episodes start off as wedding episodes
Literally every wedding on this show is just two people who love each other deciding that they want to get married *right now* bc they can’t stand not being married to each other
They really know how to write a love story and it’s one of the many reasons I adore this show ❤️
#parks and rec#parks and recreation#love#this show does romance SO WELL#and we don’t talk about it enough#april and andy#deciding to get married three weeks after they started dating bc they love each other and had a good feeling about it#ben and leslie#moved up their wedding by a few *months* bc they couldn’t stand not being married to each other#ron and diane getting married approximately 5 minutes after getting engaged#we don’t have to talk about his *other* weddings lmao

Inside Out 2
Movies watched in 2024
Inside Out 2 (2024, USA)
Director: Kelsey Mann
Writers: Meg LeFauve & Dave Holstein (based on a story by Kelsey Mann & Meg LeFauve)
Mini-review:
I loved the first one so much when it came out, but I wasn't very sure it needed a sequel, so I went into this feeling rather wary. Thankfully, I stand corrected: it was just as good as the first. It's such a realistic, incisive and empathic portrayal of anxiety and the beginning of puberty. I really do think the way the story is told makes it relatable for pretty much everyone. And it packs quite an emotional punch, which hits you just as unexpectedly as it did in the first movie. One of the things I loved from the first one was the moments where they played around with the animation, so I was really happy to see them experimenting again with different styles and aesthetics. Long story short, Inside Out 2 is definitely a worthy sequel and a surprisingly resonating experience.

. I don't know how to stop Anxiety. Maybe we can't. Maybe this is what happens when you grow up. You feel less joy.

Take Off the Night
Lately I've been thinking more and more about Paul's compositional skills and the evolution of his arrangements, starting of course with the first six Kiss studio albums (1974-1977), and with a clear focus on his first solo album from 1978, and looking upwards from there. But also looking backwards from Carnival of Souls (1997) and Revenge (1992), which both I personally consider to be his creative zenith. And I can tell you it's a bit wild what parallels there are between Carnival of Souls and Hot in the Shade, for example (1).
Ignorantly, I hadn't considered Crazy Nights in any way relevant in that perspective yet. A circumstance that has changed today, so now the one thing that seemed largely unlikely to me has finally come: The day on which I'd present Revenge and Crazy Nights (1987) together in one entry, and I have to get over that first.
But wait a minute, you could read something about those two together here just the other day. And yes, that corresponds to the facts, but that was only about songs from Crazy Nights and Unmasked, and Revenge was only mentioned in passing (2). Today, on the other hand, it's about a joint intersection of Turn on the Night and Take It Off, and why shouldn't that be the case, because after all, Crazy Nights contains quite a few references to the first three studio albums, too, and by that I'm only referring to Bang Bang You (3). But again, this one is not exactly completely inconspicuous, but rather forms a highlight in the chorus of Take It Off.
And to get to the point at last, with Turn on the Night we have that little accented playful rhythm motif that dances vividly back and forth in the verses, providing the necessary balance as Paul dances on the tightrope at dizzying vocal heights, and which also harmonizes beautifully with Bruce's soloing. On Take It Off, it's not exactly hard to find in the guitar chorus, the way it gloriously commands attention with passion in its rather soaring nature. Or rather, that's how it appears, because basically they're both almost the same, just staged completely differently.
I can't say whether this makes Revenge a little crazier, I must admit, but aren't all Kiss albums anyway?
Side Note:
(1) Oh, I'll be happy to talk about that another time.
(2) Perhaps it was just an omen or something.
(3) Which is by no means the only song on Crazy Nights with cross-references to Kiss klassiks from the 70s.

SATURDAY MATINEE MUSIC VIDEO: “Early Morning Blues & Greens” (live 2013) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2v_Aud76QR8 This song was written by Diane Hildebrand and Jack Keller, who wrote several cuts in the early Monkees album catalogue. Keller was part of the Brill Building/Don Kirshner songwriting stable in league with Howard Greenfield and Neil Sedaka. Hildebrand was more of a free spirit. In 1969 she released her own "underground pop" album with this song as the masthead. She also wrote for other artists and TV shows and released music under the name Joya Diane Skye.
Peter Tork adopted this song, usually associated with Davy Jones as a "deep cut" from The Monkees's HEADQUARTERS album. On this performance, Peter sang lead and played a bluesy guitar at a Monkees Convention in New Jersey 3-2-13. I sang harmonies and played bass in a "Monkees House Band" (i.e. Monkees road band alumni) with (the late) David "Loafy" Alexander, Rich Dart, Aviva Maloney + guitarist Damian Fanelli sitting in. We backed Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork with a night of music. We were celebrating the dearly departed Davy Jones + Micky’s birthday, with guest appearances from David Cassidy, Ron Dante (The Archies), and Deana Martin..https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2v_Aud76QR8
