On May 7, 1990, the series finale of Alien Nation (1989 - 1990) based on the film (1988) of the same name aired. The final episode found human detective Matthew Sikes (Gary Graham) struggling with his feelings over his alien partner George Francisco (Eric Pierpoint) being promoted over him as well as his feelings for the alien Cathy Frankel (Terri Treas). On top of this, the detectives also were looking into possible biological terrorism being used against the alien newcomers. The series only ran for one season of 21 episodes. I just watched Alien Nation and found it to be an interesting exploration of toxic masculinity.
Matt being raised by a toxic father is hard-wired to believe and live by toxic masculinity ideas. It often hurts/confuses/frustrates those around him, but more than anyone else, those ideas hurt him. He constantly self-sabotages purely to protect his idea of masculinity.
And then on the other end of the spectrum we have George, to whom these traits are literally alien. It's perfectly natural and comfortable to him to be vulnerable and gentle, both emotionally and physically. He's affectionate to his family and his friends, including Matt, who probably never or hardly ever received that, especially from a man.
So we watch Matt gradually and somewhat reluctantly learning that apparently you can be vulnerable and you can give your male best friend a soft hug and still be a badass kickass man, because he is this guy besides him doing just that. He doesn't make huge leaps and often falls back to his bad habits, because that's how hard working on trauma and conditioning is, but he does make progress over time.
I thought it was quite interesting perspective on that. I don't think I've seen a protagonist with that many toxic masculinity traits that is still sympathetic. I don't know if it was intentional, or was he considered and average and relatable guy back then, but that's how it looks like from the present point of view.

Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home premiered on November 26, 1986. It was the second Star Trek film directed by Leonard Nimoy. The film completed the story arc started with Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. The movie marked the 20th anniversary of Star Trek. The movie was the first of the Trek movies to take on a more humorous tone. The bridge crew (Captain Kirk - William Shatner, Bones McCoy - DeForest Kelley, Scotty - James Doohan, Sulu - George Takei, Chekov - Walter Koenig, and Uhura - Nichelle Nichols) of the destroyed Enterprise with the resurrected Spock (Nimoy) travelled from 2286 to 1986 in a stolen Klingon bird of prey. Their mission was to get two whales and bring them back to the future to prevent an apocalypse from a whale loving probe. It was the first version of Star Trek to present a female Star Fleet Captain (Madge Sinclair) and established there was no currency anymore in the Federation. The movie had cameos from Star Trek TOS characters Christine Chapel (Majel Barrett) and Janice Rand (Grace Lee Whitney). The movie was released around the time that Paramount announced they were branching the Star Trek franchise into Star Trek the Next Generation. ("Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home", Movie, Event)

omg WHAT A GAME!! I am not a Niners or Packers fan but this game gave me freakin anxiety. The 49ers advance to the NFC conference championship round but it was most definitely not a pretty win. 49ers QB Brock Purdy had a shaky 1st half but came through when it counted most. Hats off to the Packers who were almost 10 point underdogs going in -- they almost pulled off the upset!
