Our shortened attention spans due to the constant dopamine chasing and needed escapism benefits the government/people in power because if the media stops covering something people tend to forget about it. This is beneficial because if people forget about something, or the general populace does, the government can feel free to 1) Never bring it up again and 2) Distort the facts of the event/what actually happened.
Let me elaborate on 2, because that’s most likely what we’re going to see happen in the case of Luigi Mangione. As the attention shifts, the government will release information that either directly or indirectly opposes the true events, and soon enough that’ll just be “what happened.”
To combat this, we as a society have to begin REMEMBERING. The government consistently gaslights and will continue to gaslight us, and we must not let them.
This is true not only in the case of Luigi Mangione but for other instances as well, like January 6th and the election.
Do not forget! That is how we lose power and they continue to gain.

The tragedy in 1984 is that they do not actually kill the protagonist in the end but they kill him as an individual. And the final step to do so is not by destroying something directly related to himself but by destroying his feelings for another person. The final step to destroy a human being is to destroy their love.

Being in a fandom for a book is honestly more fun than being in a fandom for a movie/show/etc imo. Especially old books‼️‼️‼️ like yes!!! Pass me that 80 year old novel I’ll draw yaoi about it‼️‼️‼️

It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.
1984 by George Orwell. published 1949.
