I love seeing Letterboxd reviews for classic Jekyll and Hyde adaptations that are like “why does he keep taking the evil potion” well you would know if you had paid attention to the fucking movie

All three "Fallen Angel" pieces centered around some of my favorite Goth Lit characters.. This was a fun exercise and I like the results I wanted to capture the moment when each of them reached a turning point. With Erik it was the unmasking, when the illusion of him as the angel of music died for good. I liked the idea of his halo being a broken mirror. For the Frankenstein Creature it was the murder of William Frankenstein, symbolized by the bloody locket around his neck. His halo is an arrangement of thunderbolts. Jekyll and Hyde was harder to do. His point of no return is his first transformation and I eventually decided a blood splatter halo and Hyde's coat emulating a wing was the way to go. I was tempted to fully color them all but thought they looked more dramatic in black and white with selective pops of color.

The real question is did the potion taste good? Because I can’t imagine Jekyll drinking it that much if it tasted bad. It looks like it tasted like liquefied pop rocks mixed w/ crack and glitter.

Hot take of the day:

Henry Jekyll is a piece of shit.

This is certainly not a post to say that those adaptations who depict him as good and kind are wrong or anything, this is just my thought‼️

What, in my opinion, makes the novel realistic is that the "formula" or how you wanna call it, is just a tool that Jekyll uses to commit actions he wouldn't even think of doing according to the relevant role he has in Victorian society.

However, it's still him and the fact that even at the end, he blames it all on Hyde, just makes him more hypocritical than before since Hyde is literally just Jekyll in a different body.

His actions feel also incredibly selfish since, for his purpose to separate good and evil, he harmed a child for no apparent reason and committed a literal murder, only to feel guilty later: man, the deal is already done, what can you even expect 💀

Idk in my own twisted way, I think his death made even more sense. He died as a coward (not having the courage to face an execution) with the body that represented his true self.

I end up saying that in my opinion (if we count them separately) yes, Jekyll is even way worse than Hyde because even if he acts all kind and sweet with others, I can't really ignore the selfish intent behind (idk make him look nice in the eyes of other people)

my favorite part about the novel is that you dont get to see utterson's (and poole's i guess) reaction to the letter so i get to imagine anything i want. utterson crying and hugging the body my beloved. hyde survivng and having to face his best friend..,, i can do whatever i want,,,

my favorite part of Nightmare Classics Jekyll and Hyde is when we finally see him transform and he looks exactly the same but the thing is this version of Hyde has his hair slicked back which implies that after transforming he immediately goes to the bathroom and puts on ungodly amounts of hair gel
