He gets very defensive whenever you ask him about this Edward Hyde and the nature of their relationship.

simon stride's commitment to being a hater has to be commended tbh. not only did he decide henry jekyll was his mortal enemy, he a) told jekyll's soon to be father-in-law that jekyll should die, b) made the board meeting entirely personal even though he was there in a professional capacity, and c) when jekyll turned into hyde at the wedding reception he made it his foremost priority to point this out to lisa. just to be vindicated. legend

Anyway I read the entirety of the strange case of Dr jekyll and Mr hyde in two days(slow I know I don't have much time) and am now rereading it and I'm going to watch the movies because I want to see how accurate they are

And I'm also now reading the glass scientists because it came up a lot when I looked for Jekyll and Hyde on this app.

textually it is lightly implied that jekyll and co (by co i mean enfield and lanyon and so on) might be gay and sneaking out at night to go and have sex with men

we don’t know WHAT they are doing sneaking out late at night, of course. However they are all off to “some place at the end of the world”, are very secretive about it, and it is implied that these rich gentlemen are all in on whatever it is and they know although they will not say what it is because it would ruin them if it got out. and they are all unmarried

a brief google search yields an article on this (i haven’t read that article but will now)

that one part of Jekyll and Hyde where Jekyll says “ It was the curse of mankind that these incongruous faggots were thus bound together…” is so funny to me because I know he’s referring to the old fashioned bundle of sticks but like. Cmon. It’s so much funnier to think that Jekyll was writing his statement and really went ah shit those two evil gay ass motherfuckers being bound together is the worst thing that could’ve happened in the history of ever.

Do you think he still would've killed someone like Carew who he resented if he had never made the potion?

Probably not, I figure he'd have managed to restrain himself. He might have had those violent thoughts but I don't think he'd have gone as far as murder. I think once he became Edward and was able to get away with the first acts of violence it became harder to stop himself. He became addicted to it and for my personal interpretation I do write Edward as an addiction Henry can't quit. He might have been fine if he never started but one he started he can't stop. Being Edward feels good, it's liberating and this smaller more lithe form is stronger and faster than Henry's ever been in his life. Returning to Henry after being Edward is a crash and I even write him with withdrawal symptoms. After being Edward coming back to Henry feels slow, heavy, and draining. He feels his age, his weight and the creaks in his bones hit him like a ton of bricks. He NEEDS to feel like Edward again despite the evil things he does in that state. He feels bad about the crimes he commits and the people he hurts but he doesn't feel bad enough. He keeps going back for one more hit.

I don't think he was personally after Carew. It wasn't a premeditated killing at all. Carew just happened to catch Edward Hyde on a very bad night, one where Edward was already very stressed and in a bit of panic. It was very much "wrong place, wrong time." I like to play with the idea that Carew looked at Edward with kindness or pity and Edward just couldn't take it because he knows he's an awful person surrounded by people to whom goodness comes easily and the resentment was just too much on top of his raw anxiety. He snapped and that was it his first and most gruesome kill. The point of no return. I think part of Jekyll died forever and in my own writings this is when Edward started becoming the more dominant persona.

Let's have a little talk about Mr. Edward Hyde.

I personally see Hyde as both his own person with his own thoughts and feelings but also(of course) a manifestation of Jekyll's own darker and baser desires.

Hyde is not exactly a sex pest in my mind, though he can be a bit freaky, he's just a brazen and slightly violent person.

Hyde, from how Jekyll talked about him in his confession, also seemed to have a different side to him, Jekyll says he has a huge want and love to live, the reason he was taking control so much was because he loves being alive, he loves living. He was so scared that Jekyll would kill them so he was trying to savor the feeling as much as he could.

I see interpretations where Hyde is this horrible monster that is rude, perverted, and violent, even though he was fairly polite(as polite as Hyde can be) in his interaction with Utterson in the novella.

Also, Jekyll is NOT blameless. Jekyll knew full well the consequences of his own dangerous and frankly reckless actions and still processed with HJ7.

Not to mention how he gaslit literally everyone he was close to into believing he was alright and constantly ghosting Utterson who was just worried about him and wanted to do what he could to help him.

Shifting back to Hyde, we CANNOT skip over the fact that Poole heard him crying in such a heartbreaking way, that he almost felt sympathy for Hyde.

Hyde in the latter chapters to me feels like a scared child fearing a punishment from his father. He is grappling with the aftershocks of killing a man and showing some form of remorse for it, he is fighting to keep control of the shared body just he could live just a bit longer, ultimately dying as Hyde.

But, yeah, he's just kinda silly.

Since TikTok is maybe about to get banned, I went ahead and made what might be my last "TGS as TikToks" video. I also went ahead and made a "J&H Musical as TikToks" video that I've been wanting to do for a while now (I was gonna wait until I had more videos to put in it, but alas, it will just have to be kinda short)

I'm still really hoping it doesn't get banned cause I love that app and cause these videos are really fun to make, but if the ban does happen I'm at least glad I had the time to make these
