Riley's headquarters is going to have to make room for some new emotions and Joy, Sadness, Anger, Gear, and Disgust aren't sure what to make of Anxiety, Envy, Ennui, and Embarrassment.

Inside Out 2 stars the voice talents of Maya Hawke (Anxiety), Amy Poehler (Joy), Phyllis Smith (Sadness), Lewis Black (Anger), Tony Hale (Fear), Liza Lapira (Disgust), Kensington Tallman (Riley), Ayo Edebiri (Envy), Adéle Exarchopoulos (Ennui), Paul Walter Hauser (Embarrassment), Diane Lane (Riley's Mom), Kyle MacLachlan (Riley's Dad), Lilimar (Valentina), Yvette Nicole Brown (Coach Roberts), Grace Lu (Grace), and Sumayyah Nuriddin-Green (Bree). Mini-review:

I loved the first one so much when it came out, but I wasn't very sure it needed a sequel, so I went into this feeling rather wary. Thankfully, I stand corrected: it was just as good as the first. It's such a realistic, incisive and empathic portrayal of anxiety and the beginning of puberty. I really do think the way the story is told makes it relatable for pretty much everyone. And it packs quite an emotional punch, which hits you just as unexpectedly as it did in the first movie. One of the things I loved from the first one was the moments where they played around with the animation, so I was really happy to see them experimenting again with different styles and aesthetics. Long story short, Inside Out 2 is definitely a worthy sequel and a surprisingly resonating experience.

Tiny Review: Inside Out 2 2024. Get Your Emotions Ready For This!

I like the puns.

I like the conflict of trying to fit in with new friends with new emotions(who she is trying to be), and trying to hold on to old friends with old emotions(who she was).

I like the cautionary tale of letting one emotion be in charge of everything(except joy).

And the more I think of it, the more I like that, in each of us is a team of emotions that all want the best for us. We have to listen to all of them, not just one, accept who we really are, flaws and all, and try to be the best us.

And that knowing whether Riley makes the team isn’t the point of this story.

What I think was a missed opportunity was to show Anxiety as the last strength of emotion, together with all the other emotions, to show she realised her misguided belief, to pull out the misguided Sense Of Self.

Settingwise, introducing new characters opens up a lot of inconsistencies. But also opens more opportunities for future stories. Like I always believe, if the story is good, the audience will suspend disbelief. This is a great example.
