Some Rito have officially joined the Botwcast lineup! I’m slowly working hermits into what is primarily a Yogscast au, and discovering totk lore is definitely giving me a lot to think about bdjfgbdgkb
Here’s an assortment of doodles featuring a bunch of random here-there stuff I’ve been thinking about for the au, ranging from important plot stuff to silly side-character shenanigans :]
Featuring (in order): Rito Grian (who may or may not be the stand-in for Tulin in totk), Rito False (Rito warrior!), Rito Lomadia (who becomes the rito elder by totk), botw Nano who’s infected by malice and swears she’s no more feral or violent than normal because of it, Stable owner Jimmy who’s NOT related to Grian despite what Grian keeps telling all of their friends, Stable owner Bdubs who claims to have the best horse stock in all of Hyrule, an updated Nano design for totk and Etho who has similar gloom scars, and… whatever Doc has going on. Haven’t figured out the logistics yet, but I think it’d be hilarious if what happened to link’s arm somehow happened to Doc’s face. I had to Doc-ificate his face somehow and this was too funny of a concept not to at least draw DFBJGB

So my friend sent me this link to a youtube video about why the TotK lore isn't interesting. I couldn't get through it without a ten-screen discord rant (on my PC monitor, not my phone) so I thought I would put some thoughts here.
I don't delve too deep into TotK story but there are def some spoilery statements below, consume at your own risk.
The initial assumptions here seem to be that (1) BotW was more respectful of "The Lore" than TotK, and that (2) TotK made some unforgiveable sins that BotW absolutely avoided.
Both of these are completely false. And I am NOT saying that neither BotW nor TotK shat upon accepted lore. They did. There is no recovering the Hyrule Historia timeline, objectively. Instead I contend that the truth is the precise opposite: Nintendo has NEVER actually cared to try to make LoZ games have ANY amount of continuity.
Take the slide at the 5 minute mark of the video linked, above, in which we see the Master Sword was created specifically to be used against Ganon, and then the 7 sages set out to find somebody valiant enough to wield it (this is from the user manual of A Link to the Past, from the SNES, which also was about The Imprisoning War). Which, if you're playing the home game, you know got ret'conned TWELVE YEARS AGO by Skyward Sword. He's using the slide to explain why it was ridiculous that Ganondorf was able to shatter the Master Sword in the prologue to TotK, which tells me they didn't pay much attention to the mechanic in BotW in which the Master Sword "runs out of power" if you use it too much. If Ganon is an aspect of Demise (again from Skyward Sword, far more recent lore than the slide being used in the vid) then the secret stone he's wielding is amplifying DEMISE (WAY stronger than just some dude), which is why he's able to shatter the blade - but still isn't enough to destroy the sword. His entire complaint about the Sword being broken suggests to me he either didn't play Skyward Sword or has forgotten it existed, and has DEFINITELY forgotten the 'weapons breaking' mechanic started in BotW.
He makes another complaint later about there not being an explanation for the disappearance of the Divine Beasts. Which, sure. I wondered what happened, and figured the 5ish years since then made it old news nobody was talking about it anymore. I get why that might have been a breaking point for somebody else. But it's not just a TotK problem; BotW didn't address it, either. We see the Divine Beasts being dug up by the Sheikah in Rhoam's flashback - how did they get buried? The towers shoot out of the ground, how did THEY get buried, after the last calamity? Who put the guardians underground? How? HOW, if nobody is allowed into the tunnels under Hyrule Castle? It didn't get explained for BotW, so why is that an unforgivable sin in TotK? They give more than a passing suggestion that Purah has repurposed the guardians - just LOOK at the Skyview Towers. The jumpscare for BotW players when you get grabbed in the Lookout Landing tower TELLS YOU where the guardians went.
There is a significant section in which video creator is quoting an interview I haven't seen (and don't give two shits about), and I think it needs to be said: what is in the game is canon. What is in the interviews from other people is, by definition, not game canon. If it was meant to be game canon it would be in the game. Neil Gaiman talks about this when people ask him for clarification of his stories, go check his FAQ if you want a really good delineation of canon from somebody with way more clout than me.
So let's just look at the lore he's defending from BotW. The map is wrong. Straight up wrong, from all the earlier Zelda games. Nintendo cannot decide where the Lost Woods should be, much less Spectacle Rock. The Temple of Time, which again is mentioned early on as a clear homage to the lore, is in the wrong damn spot. If this is the new Hyrule formed post-WindWaker (as indicated by the existance of Rito), the Temple of Time should have been destroyed. And why do the Rito and the Zora both exist? According to WindWaker, the Rito evolved from the Zora, who couldn't live in the salt of the sea. Which is a pretty big jump from the original game that had Zora in the ocean, and the two games following THAT in which they were straight-up monsters. I don't want to get into ALL the ways BotW breaks from the established lore, but there's a LOT. They don't mention the fucking Triforce ONCE, ffs, that's sort of a big damn deal.
I get there was a canon timeline published in Hyrule Historia. I bought that book for that exact reason. And, as someone who has loved this franchise since I got that first golden cartridge in 1987, I looked at that timeline once, laughed at it, and moved on with my life. BotW de-canonized that timeline already, in a LOT of ways.
So saying that TotK is evidence that Nintendo no longer cares about continuity or lore, and by NOT villifying BotW (or TP or SS) for the exact same problem is disingenuous at best. Saying that TotK is just nostalgia-baiting is ignoring the BotW map (Lake Saria, anyone? Ranch Ruins, anyone?) in general, as well as all the game-specific loot that had NO other reason to be there but straight-up nostalgia. The only reason for Zelda to mention the other heroes in the blessing we hear in the first memory is to (1) destroy the established timeline (skyward bound, adrift in time, or something about twilight, all in a world where Rito exist), or (2) prey on our nostalgia. TotK isn't any worse for putting the WW shirt and the Awakening armor into the game, in terms of wrecking the timeline or trying to feast on our nostalgia.
I'm not going to try to hypothesize what this person (or all his commenters) didn't like about the game, or why they're so willing to overlook all these problems in BotW to villify TotK. And everybody is welcome to like to dislike a game for whatever reason they want, IDGAF, you do you. What I AM saying is that for someone who's upset about the lore, he really doesn't seem to actually be aware of how inconsistent it's ALWAYS been. If TotK is the game that taught you that Nintendo isn't trying to follow their own lore, then I don't think you have been paying attention to the lore for a good long time.
tl;dr this is still my favorite series and if you hate that it breaks its own continuity then you've been asleep for the last 12 years of lore drops my good dude.
#loz#loz lore discussion#loz lore#botw spoilers#totk spoilers#botw#totk#totk directly contradicts skyward sword#and its fine#because SS directly contradicted all the original games#there has never been continuity#never#the total lack of continuity is one of the reasons I love it so much

me and sky were talking about this but if link ever noclips into hermitcraft he would totally mistaken doc for some weird crazy alternate universe ganondorf
green ✅ destructive ✅ has an evil laugh ✅
and to make matters worse the entirety of the hermitcraft server are zelda nerds so they would totally play along and lie to link for fun. link is convinced that grian is an incarnation of the hero’s spirit but a rito and grian goes along with it gleefully. they ask false to play tetra from wind waker and she doesn’t even need to do much because she’s already Like That.
link spends the entire stay at hermitcraft getting increasingly concerned about the state of hyrule however many years into the future he’s been booted into. there’s no more rito village, goron city, gerudo town, or zora’s domain. only an insane fucking land of a billion buildings and supervillain lairs. and to make matters worse “zelda” and “rito link” are just CHILL with “ganondorf” running around. ganondorf has threatened destruction upon multiple “cities.” he fired floating wither skulls at that poor hylian’s park. and they’re all just chill with it?!!
link is convinced hermitcraft is a really fucked up place, and he’s right, just for all the wrong reasons

Hi! I wanted to ask something regarding Pinesong and Tears of the Kingdom if that's alright with you.
How would a Pinesong sequel that takes place before or during the events of the game work out? would it even happen?
Yeah, you're fine! Somebody else asked me the same thing, actually, so I've been thinking it over the past few days. I don't have a full plot figured out (lol nor do I intend to write a totk-compliant sequel 😜), but I can imagine how some of it might go.
Minor spoilers for TotK ahead:
I guess to start out, I do feel bad that Pinesong Link in particular would have to go back under the castle 😭 I think he would have done it, though, with people getting sick and something like Malice rising out from beneath it. I suppose it's because of the similarities between Gloom and Malice that he would have gone back to the Great Deku Tree to retrieve the Master Sword, which was left in Korok Forest during Pinesong. Revali would understand. He would Not Be Pleased.
He would not go down with them, I think, which means there's a lovely, angst-ridden portion of time (days? weeks?) where Link is recovering/stuck making his way through the sky island, and Revali doesn't know if Link is even alive but also can't search for him the way he wants to because of everything happening with Rito Village (with Mipha stuck in a similar situation re: Zelda, of course. Oooooh, wonder if there's a way to work something interesting in with Mipha and all those false Zelda appearances? Hmm. 👀)
This is where the combination of TotK and BotW Champions gets hazy for me, because I don't want to take away from the development that the new Champions/Sages go through (there's a satisfaction to passing the torch on to the next generation), but Revali would have absolutely wanted to go up to investigate the source of the storm and I don't think Teba would have stopped him like he did Tulin. You could write it where Ganon specifically takes out all of the old Champions when they go to investigate the disturbances, though it kind of sucks that they would all have to get rescued by Link *again* 😂 Alternatively, there's a fuzzy connection building in my mind between the Champions, the Divine Beasts (which apparently got sent to eeby deeby in TotK but which still existed in the world of Pinesong), and the Divine Beast helms that the ancient sages all wore for some reason. Maybe the Champions all go missing in their various regional disturbances, but due to some interference other than Ganon? I'll have to sit on that one for a bit 🤔
Main plot stuff aside, given Tulin's gifts, pre-TotK I think Revali would definitely have taken Tulin under his wing (sorry). With Tulin's arc so focused on learning to depend on others, I wonder if Revali would have seen himself in Tulin and winced at what he saw. I wonder if Revali would still have passed the Great Eagle Bow on to Tulin when he awakened as a sage. I think maybe he would have.
Pinesong Link would totally roll with the Stable Trotters. He would love pizza. Revali would hate the depths (no sky). Can't speak to what Kass would be doing, because. You know. 🙃
There's maybe more I could come up with, but it seems like I've gone on for long enough already 😂 Hope any of this was interesting to you!
#pinesong#totk spoilers#revalink#admittedly it's been a minute since i last read pinesong so this is all going off memory and probably a bit incoherent#but it always takes a while for ideas to come together in my mind

Faces Of Eons
more for Sakiru, this is kind of a follow up to Return. here we have Sakiru meeting the main silly guys of the AU :3
(for @bugger-loz's dungeon boss AU, Dark Disciples)
Word count: 1268 Characters: Sakiru, Astor, Original characters (the blights and temple bosses), Kohga and Sooga (briefly) Warnings: None
The four stood there in silence, facing Sakiru and the apostle with exaggerated expressions ranging from bewilderment to annoyance. Not knowing what to say, Sakiru stood there and studied their features.
There weren't many collective similarities between them. They were all different shapes and species- a thin and lanky gerudo who appeared to be a man, A built and stocky goron, a tall-statured zora, and a barrel-chested rito. All of them were flicking their eyes between Sakiru and the robed man.
After a minute of silence, the apostle spoke. “I told you that the Demon King’s alchemist turned himself into a construct.”
“I… guess that is a construct… but you at least could’ve told us what that meant! We weren’t exactly expecting a full on robot, ya know?” “What were you expecting?” He threw their hands in the air. “I don’t know, but it damn well wasn’t that!”
The apostle sighed and rubbed his forehead. “Enough. The point is that he’s here now. You may call him Sakiru. That was the name that he took in life.”
“Sakiru,” The rito murmured under his breath.
The apostle turned his head to Sakiru. “I wanted you to meet these people. These are the ones who call themselves The Blights, followers of Calamity Ganon. Each of them serve as their respective element.”
He gestured to all of them, one by one. First the gerudo. “Raedihn is the blight of thunder.” The rito. “Thyelli is the blight of the winds.” The zora. “Ahvesus is the blight of the waters.” The goron. “And finally, Kohlasi is the blight of fire.” He crossed his arm over his chest and bowed. “I am the prophet of doom. You may call me Astor.”
Sakiru looked from Astor to the blights. “...That’s not all of them. What do you mean?”
Astor stood up from his bow, masking his confusion with false confidence. “I assure you, that is all four of them. Each counteracts a certain person, a general in our enemy’s army. Every single one is accounted for.”
“But what of light? What of spirit?”
A smirk tugged at the corner of his lips, but he still kept some of that confusion. “You’ve been down there quite a while, you must not be up to speed. There is no ‘spirit’ that you speak of. The light, Princess Zelda, is opposed by the calamity itself.”
Before Sakiru could ask any questions, Ahvesus cut through with a sarcastic laugh. “Look, prophecy man. We don’t have all day. This isn’t exactly, you know, time for a little history lesson.” They hissed that part through gritted teeth. “So can we please get to the point?”
Astor nodded. “Of course. Right this way, Sakiru.”
He opened the wooden doors and let them out. The quiet of the room they were in seemed infectious, the bustle of the outside going silent in nearly a second. The strange masked men clothed in red suits stared at them and shuffled out of their way to clear a path.
While they walked, Sakiru perked his mechanical ears up. He noticed two men in the crowd: one of them significantly taller than the rest of them, the other jumping around and waving his arms in the air. “Sooga, lift me up! I wanna see em!”
The tall man named Sooga picked him up by the armpits and lifted him to about the height of his chest. The other man, wearing a more extravagant mask and noticeably more stout than the others, put a hand at his forehead to shield his eyes from sunlight that wasn’t in the underground hideout. “Woah! What in Ganon’s name is that? Is that the alchemist guy that Astor was talking about?”
The man stopped speaking and demanded to be let down when Sakiru looked at him. Before he could fully squirm out of his position, they entered the next room.
Just like the one that they met in, this room had no masked men in it. There were three mounds of blankets and cushions, along with a wooden tub of water clearly separated from the fabrics. As they walked in, Astor jingled the jewelry in his hair.
The four beings in the room perked up, intrigued by the noise. They were… babies. A gerudo girl, a goron pebble, a zora fry, and a rito hatchling. They crawled a little closer to Sakiru. Fascinated, but wary of danger.
The Blights looked at each other and waited for one of them to say something. Thyelli took that responsibility. “...These are our children,” she said. “Moruka, Gohrra, Gyba, and my son, Colgheri. You… can imagine why this is so important to us.”
“I see…” Sakiru rasped as he kneeled down. Gyba got a little closer and reached out. Her little fingers grasped one of the zonaite prongs at the end of his arm. She giggled as he raised his hand a little bit, lifting her a few inches off the ground.
The other kids joined their friend to meet the newcomer. Ahvesus picked up their child as they waddled over. “This is war. If anything goes wrong… yeah, not risking it. We can’t fight and take care of them at the same time.”
“What about these masked men? There’s plenty of them.”
Astor scoffed. “Sakiru, let’s just say that I wouldn’t trust those buffoons with a dog, much less children. The Yiga are a bad influence, and I doubt they’d feed them anything but bananas. We only work with them out of necessity.”
Ahvesus wiped off a bit of water that Moruka spit in their face. “We need our futures and legacies to be protected, unless the calamity doesn’t go entirely to plan. Since you have no counterpart, could we rely on you?” Sakiru picked Gohrra off of the floating pieces of his arms. “For fellow disciples of darkness, I will do what I can.”
-
“What do you mean, ‘no spirit’? What happened to the fifth sage?”
Astor and Sakiru were alone now in the quiet of the night. Everyone else had gone to bed. The only sound accompanying them was the wildlife in the highlands.
“I found out about you through the stone archives in the temples I’ve unearthed. I’ve seen depictions of the ‘sages’ you speak of, but I assure you that there were only four. Perhaps something has been lost to time.”
“But you spoke of Princess Zelda, I remember her… It can’t have been that long.”
“Interesting. It seems there really is more going on here than I imagined…” He turned back to him. “But it really has been that long. Based on the age of the archives, you’ve been in that temple for at least ten thousand years.”
“T- ten… ten thousand years…”
Sakiru couldn’t move his arms. His whole body seized up. His heart stopped beating in its jar.
“It’s a lot to take in, but-”
He cut Astor off. “Ten thousand years…! Ten thousand-! TEN THOUSAND YEARS!”
And with that, he threw his glass head back and looked up towards the sky. From his jaws, brought from the air itself, he let forth a cackle like he had never laughed before. Such a deep and throaty noise that didn’t travel through his severed neck, not coming from jarred lungs that never filled with air to create it. All through the night, he laughed and laughed up towards a sky full of stars that he didn’t recognize anymore.
Rauru was dead. Mineru was dead. Every single hylian under their command was now the dirt that his zonai feet walked upon. It didn’t matter. He did it.
He was immortal.

Non amo le Religioni. Tutte.

Okay so while I'm 99.999999% sure that BoTW and ToTK take place on their own timeline (I've even figured out where the divergence must have occurred for the events in those games to take place as they did and wrote a spoileriffic post all about it), there is at least one other option. Maybe two.
Spoilers and 1300+ words of lore and theory nonsense under the cut.
There are some things I've noticed that, when put together, form a very interesting possibility. It's not nearly as solid as the concept of this being an entirely different timeline altogether, and separately these things don't mean much of anything. Viewed together, though, they do seem to point in a fairly distinct direction.
Key points:
The Depths are full of massive ancient fossilized tree roots
Hyrule as a whole is heavily populated with the remains of absolutely enormous fossilized tree stumps
The Koroks exist, but the Kokiri don't
The Rito exist, as do the Zora
These Zora can live in freshwater or saltwater without suffering negative effects
Ganondorf refers to Sonia as being Hyrulean, not Hylian, in spite of Hyrule as a kingdom being founded by her and Rauru
Triforce imagery already exists back in that time period, to the point that Sonia has it tattooed on her body
This...may actually be the far-flung future of the WindWaker timeline.
Points 1, 2 and 3:
In WindWaker, the Deku Tree created the Koroks out of the Kokiri so that they would survive in some capacity after the Goddesses flooded the world. They traverse the world dropping seeds in the hopes that the trees born from those seeds will take root deep enough to join together and recreate land.
The Depths are full of ancient fossilized trees. Hyrule is covered in their remains. The Koroks travel the world for reasons unknown. The Lost Woods contain both a Lake Saria and a Mido Swamp, which we can say are just shout-outs to previous titles—except that Urbosa mentions Nabooru by name in BoTW, meaning that she existed. And if she existed, in the capacity that we know her from Ocarina of Time, then Saria existed. And yet the Koroks exist, and the Kokiri don't.
Points 4 and 5:
In WindWaker, the Rito used to be the Zora. They were magically evolved over time because they couldn't survive the flood, there was something wrong with the water. In Ocarina of Time, Zoras appear to be strictly freshwater entities; there are oceanic Zora in Majora's Mask, but that's either so far back on the timeline that Hylia and Demise haven't landed yet, or it's an alternate timeline altogether. In BoTW and ToTK, the Zora are very clear that they can survive in basically any water. They've tested this. They know they'll be fine no matter what.
Rito and Zoras in BoTW and ToTK have very, very similar body shapes, with long torsos and long arms and short legs, very limited sexual dimorphism, and expression of features similar to multiple different real-world animals that live in their respective environments. Teba is a harpy eagle, Kass is a sapphire macaw, Revali is a Steller's jay, Penn is a pelican; Mipha seems to be a false killer whale, Sidon is a hammerhead shark, King Dorephan is a blue whale, Yona is a devil ray.
Unlike the Rito in WindWaker, these Rito are literally just birds. They don't have to go earn their wings, they grow flight feathers at certain levels of maturity just like normal birds. Unlike the Zora in previous titles, who seemed to age at a rate on-pace with Hylians, the Zora age similarly to some some rare deep sea animals—coelacanths, for instance, reach physical maturity around 40-60 years old. (Reminder that coelacanths were also assumed to be wiped out, leaving behind only differently-evolved relatives.)
If we assume that the Koroks' mission was successful, then the Zora could very well have come back into being intentionally, the same way that they became the Rito in the first place. Some remained as Rito, while others chose to branch off and recreate what they used to be, using magic and careful breeding to make sure that they wouldn't die if the water turned against them again. Likewise, the Rito changed alongside them to become more suited to the changing environment, until they reached a point where they don't even remember that they came from the same place. (EDIT: Lending further credence to this possibility, the Stormwind Ark literally looks like two seahorses swimming side by side. Not birds. Nothing airborne. Seahorses.)
Points 6 and 7:
The existence of the Triforce as a holy symbol and the use of "Hyrulean" to describe someone of Hylian descent indicates that Rauru and Sonia didn't create Hyrule as a place, but organized it as a nation. The land of Hyrule already existed, it just wasn't under anyone's rule. Rauru and Sonia, with the power that they possessed, were able to organize the land on which they lived to create a kingdom—it was already called Hyrule, they just took control.
This makes absolutely no sense whatsoever in any context that I can think of outside the WindWaker timeline, where the destined bearers of the Triforce and the Hylian royal family haven't existed for ages. One of three points in the timeline where Ganondorf was killed, not just sealed away. (The other two being Twilight Princess and ToTK.) Until this point, Ganondorf is always the same Ganondorf. He's the same person as he was in Ocarina of Time—the Triforce of Power made him immortal, that's why all anyone could ever do was seal him up. The Master Sword is the sword that seals the darkness, not the sword that destroys the darkness.
There's a really interesting bit in the Twilight Princess manga that, while I know it's noncanon for the games, lends a lot of credence to the idea that Ganondorf in ToTK is the first time that Ganondorf has been properly and truly reincarnated.
Trigger warning for mention of suicide, and spoiler warning for the Twilight Princess manga.
Toward the end of the manga, during the final battle, Link is losing. Link is going to lose. He comes to the realization that he can't kill Ganondorf not because Ganondorf is stronger than him, but because he's just one part of a whole—and Link and Zelda make up the rest of it. Link realizes that he doesn't have the right to kill Ganondorf, because they need each other to exist. He was chosen by Din for a reason, like Link was chosen by Farore and Zelda was chosen by Nayru, and even if nobody knows why Din allowed that to happen that doesn't make it the right of one Goddess' champion to kill another. Ganondorf refuses to accept this, and kills himself so that he can finally be swept into the reincarnation cycle along with Link and Zelda, rather that just living forever and meeting new versions of them again and again. He demands the opportunity to reset and do what he wants without the fetters of his previous attempts weighing on him, with a promise to return someday and take what he deserves.
Ganondorf dies at the end of WindWaker, and it's very possible that he wouldn't be reborn again until the time period where Hyrule would be revived. Ganondorf is the destined bearer of the Triforce of Power—and Rauru is the Sage of Light, but he very clearly serves as a stand-in for the Triforce of Courage, while Sonia presumably stood in for Wisdom until Zelda arrived. At that point, given that Zelda is the destined bearer chosen by Nayru in order to bolster her ability to interface with Hylia (or to house her outright), any protection that position could have granted Sonia was lost, and Ganondorf was able to kill her where he couldn't have killed Zelda.
Do I think this is the case? Almost certainly not. Do I think it's possible? Absolutely.
The other possibility is that Ganondorf in WindWaker succeeded in his wish to reset the timeline and undo everything and the Goddesses took advantage of the wish and rolled it back so far that they removed the Triforce from the timeline altogether in the hopes that Ganondorf would never come into being at all. This new timeline would thereby be the result of that, but there's not much to indicate that beyond the fact that the Imprisoning War is literally the events of Ocarina of Time without the Triforce or Link, down to Zelda watching him kneel in front of the King of Hyrule and ask for allegiance, then telling that king that Ganondorf is obviously evil. I swear it's almost word for word. Zelda. Don't be racist.

Lore bits
This claim is false. Leona and Diana were never portrayed as "almost sisterly". They simply didn't know each other in old lore. Diana is the one who was always intended to be, designed as, a lesbian. This aspect of her was not explicitly written in her original lore because Rito management. Her story is about being ostracized by the group she was born in.
Leona had no orientation in old lore. She was childhood friends with Pantheon.
~
Fast-forward to new lore, where a tumble and jumble made Diana and Leona almost sort of switch personalities and introduce aliens and... And this is a snip of the official Riot image for the Pride event. See what colours Leona's pengu holds:
#diana league of legends#leona league of legends#trying out a lore bit type post#tell me if you don't want these clogging the comic's blog#also Leo is her creator's OC crush and I intend to respect that aspect#like#you know how you respect people's ideas and stuff#but not corporate company's stuff

Because those are easier to draw. Oh and @verycisdragon wanted to know when this is done so here ya' go! Ya'll know the drill heres a long list:

Zelda fandom rant:
Totk is not a retcon. It literally is not. It has a few weird story things going on with BOTW in regards to the Sheikah tech but that's it. It does not up-end Any part of the time-line other than saying fan theories that people got overly attached to aren't true.
It is never stated anywhere (in the game or the books) that the Link and Zelda from Skyward Sword are the founders of the Kingdom of Hyrule. We did not know when or who established the kingdom, and we now have Rauru and Sonia as likely candidates. I fail to see how this could be such an upsetting "retcon" to people when all previous lore had the time between Skyward Sword and Minish Cap as multiple Vague happenings.
"Where is the Triforce?" "What happened to the Zonai?" both of these questions honestly have the same answer: the Era of Chaos. You know the one where the Triforce and the Sacred Realm gets sealed and when we know that at least one race gets yote from Hyrule's plan of existence? And that the Zonai at their height were not only the direct descendants of the Gods (so basically gods themselves) and very powerful magic users? By the time Hyrule's established the Triforce is already sealed away until OoT, and the Zonai also have their own powerful objects in the form of the Secret Stones (which could be any number of things. Aspects of the triforce, mimicries of it, things given to them by their godly ancestors, idk have some fun with it). And it's not a stretch to say that Rauru wouldn't know about it or the Hyrulians own heritage from the skies with the loftwings; eventually leading to the crest of Hyrule that we know.
The sky in and if itself is already a realm of the gods separated from the surface reality. Just because we don't see the Zonai in SS doesn't mean they weren't around or weren't doing things on the surface before the Skyloftians re-establish themselves on the ground. They're capable of existing as their own thing. I don't really ever see people get this upset over like Oocca (even tho like,,, wtf is up with them?), and I can only assume it's cause TwiLiP is already in the fandom consciousness as a "good Zelda game" so it won't get scrutiny like the new one.
Idk I'm seeing people get personally upset and offended over percieved changes in the time-line. Even though I would argue with my whole chest nothing has been retconned or changed.
Also it's very funny watching people who were so against the idea that botw could mean that the time-lines converged now tout the theory; just so they can shove both it and totk (including all the "in the past" stuff with Rauru and Sonia) so far in the future it can't touch their precious "classic Zelda." And the time-line that I remember a lot of the fandom not even liking.
Like I believed in the convergence theory back during botw cause it made sense to me and we were already dealing with time magic. But no, it was Impossible until the new game did something people didn't agree with.
It's fine to disagree or have different theories but to say that the game is objectively bad and was trying to retcon things? I have to disagree. I really think it's a matter of people disliking change and totk not being the game they built up in their heads (or not Entirely following up on some of botw's story, like the fight with Calamity Ganon from the legend. Which is a valid criticism and one that I kinda hold myself). But making up false statements about the game to justify your dislike? That's pretty weak.
(And that's not to say I'm above hating games or spin offs. I don't like Hopes pretty much at all, but I Try to keep my hate grounded in things the game actually did)
To go off in a side tangent: I'm sorry but totk Does tell you the order it wants you to do it's story in. It tells you to go to certain areas first (like talking to Purah, then to Kakariko, then to Impa, etc), to talk with Impa on your way to Rito Village which is the first area the game directs you towards. Then when you go to the forgotten temple: there is a map on the ground showing you the exact locations of all of the glyphs plus the glyphs lined up on the back wall in a way that suspiciously looks....ordered. And Impa's dialog prompts you to try and figure out what this all could Mean. And you get a camera right at the start of the game which would maybe allow for something like Documenting the map and the wall mural.
Idk bout y'all but I figured out this riddle after a few seconds of looking at it on release day. So there was no guide or anything to "help" me. And yeah I'm being sarcastic because the answer is so blatant and obvious. The game Wants you to pay attention and do the glyphs linearly but is was not going to hold your hand and force you. And there is other dialog abounds which asks you to do the plot in a certain order, but you still don't Have to.
I don't know how to sign this off other than saying that, in my opinion, totk is a fantastic game. It's a good Zelda game. And yes, I have played plenty of classic Zelda games before anyone tries to accuse me of "not getting it." The lore and the story is also very important to me, I just disagree with much of the discourse I've seen (especially on Zelda YouTube). It's okay if you don't like it, but people who do like it aren't bootlickers or whatever.
And yeah there are things that I do dislike about the game, don't get me wrong. But gods it's not a bad game and it's not world ending. Maybe try having fun with the lore for once?

I wanna write my thoughts on my playthrough of totk as I go along (cause I love going back and reading them after finishing), so I'm gonna post them on this blog!! If you're sensitive to spoilers like me, make sure to blacklist "#totk liveblog" :)
It got kinda long so I'm putting it under a cut haha
that being said, my beginning thoughts to the opening of the game were basically OMG ZELDA HI ZELDA I MISSED YOU LOVE THE HAIR OMG HI like she was so cute!!! I LOVED getting to walk with her in the opening it made me like actually emotional. Cause you never get to just!! walk with her and talk in botw!! She's SUCH a nerd I loved her info dumping on the ruins. At the same time I was like "girl please stop walking into the ominous red fog I can hear the chanting in the background getting louder ZELDA PLEASE" and the bit where you have to choose to keep going? It's like the game is giving you a false out, like the following events are your fault because you chose to walk forward and investigate
And then there was the craziness of MUMMYDORF being all like "mm pathetic. weak lil baby sword can't do anything lmao rauru was soooo dumb" and he can identify Link and Zelda on sight despite them being entirely new incarnations which I find very interesting
Then SHE FALLS AND LINK JUMPS AFTER HER AND HE DOESNT SAVE HER AND SHE DISAPPEARS AND AJHDJHDJSNKJAK
Also I got really sad about the master sword?? Fi girl I'm so sorry I promise I'll find a way to fix you :'( when you pick her up on the sky island and she's got 1 damage, less than a tree branch, I was just heartbroken. Though it does make me wonder, how much power has the master sword lost over the millennia, for it to be corrupted so thoroughly by Ganondorf's magic?? Maybe we'll get a chance to get her up to full power later in the game? Maybe reforge her somehow?
On the sky island when I was running around, I was convinced I missed the shirt in the beginning. I got the leg wrap things but no weird toga to go with it?? Straight up thought I somehow missed it even though I practically combed every area I walked through lol. My friend was playing with me and he made it their mission to find the shirt HAHA
The new mechanics/powers are so much fun!! After I got ascend, I kept forgetting I had it at first when I got stuck in underground places, and would wander around looking for a ladder or a climbable wall before I would be like "oh yeah I have ascend" lol. Fuse has been really cool! I love using extra long spears, they're so convenient for tough monsters cause I'm still Very Squishy. OH speaking of, I love that the opening addresses why you're back down to three hearts and a single stamina wheel!! once again, link has Almost Perished. But at least he has a sickass prosthetic from a dead guy!
Ultrahand is SO fun, I made myself a little jet when I was exploring the underground of hyrule with some fans, a 'wing' glider thing, and a ramp made of stone walls. It didn't go too terribly far BUT it got me over the Ganon Gunk I was trying to get past, so it was a success in my book!!
Recall is my favorite. I don't use it much yet but zelda gave it to me. So it Must be my favorite. It was a gift from my beloved.
Some other notes on getting back to the surface of hyrule:
PURAH IS FINALLY AN ADULT I'm glad your anti-anti-aging rune worked out for you girl
How long has it been since botw?? Also, how long were Zelda and Link missing??? Long enough for people to have named the Upheaval, and to organize groups for research and combat around it. How long was Link out in that sky cave?? How long did it take for Rauru to heal him/give him his arm??? Not years obviously, but maybe a few days?? Weeks??
Met a rito named Penn, I already know people are gonna be weirdly thirsty about him
The little Korok buddies needing to reach their friends is just. SO cute. Two for one korok seed deal also
Addison, the guy putting up signs for Hudson's construction business, is amazing. I help him with his sign and he's like "THANK YOU TAKE MY MONEY TAKE MY FOOD TAKE MY WIFE TAKE MY CAR I CAN NEVER REPAY YOU FOR THIS". and he does that every time. incredible
I'm still exploring in hateno but. guys. Links house. Zelda LIVES there and there is STILL ONLY ONE BED. I rest my case.
Also the school??? Zelda, who dedicated her life to her duty but had a love of learning, making her duty of restoring hyrule by starting with building a school and being a teacher??? The students call her Ms. Zelda??? brb crying. sobbing my eyes out. good lord.
Also Bolson built the school, but then he left to go on a trip??? Construction grandpa i need you here!!! don't leave!!! But also maybe it's good that you left. I don't want you to be here for the Ganondorf Revival. stay safe king
My horses from my last botw save file are here!! Good to have you guys back :') they don't have their cool armor but I guess I'll just find those sets again :) perhaps new ones also?? (I'm kinda sad I don't have the original save file from my first playthrough; I've replayed a few times but my first playthrough was the one I did all the side quests on, and it had my first really good horse, which was named Mürdur. He was all black, had 5 stars in speed, and was awesome. I fought my first dark beast ganon with him. Maybe I'll look for a similar horse here in totk...)
Horseback combat is AMAZING. I had to fight a huge group of monsters to get through fort hateno and I am still Very Squishy with only 4 hearts and no extra stamina, but I hopped on one of my old botw horses and just did a bunch of ride-by whacks on the monsters and eventually got them all! thank you horseback combat for the bonus damage. god bless
Kinda sad to see all the ancient sheikah tech gone :( I wonder if they'll address where it all went? Did you guys just... re bury it?? Did everything get sucked back into the ground??? Where's the OG sheikah slate?? Obviously we can't have it because then we would have access to the botw runes, which isn't what this game is about, but still!! I like the Purah Pad but I would like to know where it went!
Cave exploration is Very Fun and Underground exploration is terrifying in the best way possible. I found a glow in the dark shirt while I was down there and it has become my default armor piece to wear.
Speaking of armor, Misko the famous treasure hunter being referred to exclusively with they/them pronouns? excellent
Also how did this ancient treasure hunter get their hands on my clothes. those are my outfits homie I had them in the last game.
I haven't gotten to the main bits of the story yet, but the game seems to be pushing me to go to the rito first, so I think that's where I'll go after I finished exploring Hateno
Apparently Impa is just. Out there somewhere? On a hot air balloon??? I saw Cado earlier and he was like "Link you're back!! Impa is floating around out there :)" GIRL WHAT. WHERE.
I need to go check on Teba. why is your son in the trailer but not you. Also Yunobo, cause I didn't see him either

Quella cupezza, quelle rime "aspre e chiocce"...
.
ambo le mani in su l’erbetta sparte
soavemente ‘l mio maestro pose:
ond’io, che fui accorto di sua arte,
porsi ver’ lui le guance lagrimose:
ivi mi fece tutto discoverto
quel color che l’inferno mi nascose.

Chapter 1: Cerouh
This matching was VERY unfair, bow against spear. Ranged versus melee. It was almost asinine. Almost.
Cerouh braced himself to summon a Storm, spear clenched in his beak. They outstretched their wings, and a surge of power ran through his veins. Rito Elder and warrior Teba drew the string to his bow, and Cerouh released the power into a large gust of wind that swirled around the two Rito, knocking Teba out of the sky, creating an opening for Cerouh to rush Teba. Spear now in wing, Cerouh was able to attack. Swings of their spear were countered and blocked, but it was clear the elder Rito was tiring.
"Admit it," Cerouh grit out. "You lost, old man." He brought the butt end of his spear down, aiming for the junction between Teba's neck and shoulder. Teba caught it, twisting the spear and nearly out of Cerouh's grip.
"I lose when I drop, Cerouh." The elder spoke as if he weren't out of breath, which Cerouh knew was false.
"You lose-" he swung the bladed end toward Teba- "when I say-" Teba dodged, but Cerouh kicked his talons out- "you lose." He gripped Teba's ankle and pulled, pinning the older Rito under their clawed foot and pointing the spear to his neck.
Panting, Teba looked up at the young male and smirked. "Congratulations, Cerouh." Cerouh offered a feathered hand to Teba, who accepted gratefully, and pulled him up. "I knew you were special. The only other known Rito to be able to manipulate the air like that was-"
"Master Revali. I know. Where do you think I got the idea?" Cerouh smirked, patting the snow from their indigo crest. "I wonder, will the Divine Beasts get new pilots?" They changed the subject. "It seems... quite dangerous to keep them the way they are."
"Actually, Cerouh, I heard the Princess was looking for her next generation of Champions. Why do you think I've been training you all this time? You, my boy, are the best candidate."
Something clicked in Cerouh's head, and an overjoyed smile spread across his beak. "You think I'm the best candidate to pilot Vah Medoh?"
"Of course, if your Storm is anything to go by."
Cerouh looked up at the circling Beast, its calm blue lights cutting through the mist that settled over the mountain. "I won't disappoint, then."
---
It's been a day since the Rito elder passed, and a week since that fateful duel between him and the young Cerouh. The flight range is where Cerouh spent their days now, to distract himself from the pain of losing his mentor. He worked on perfecting his Storm, sending tornadoes and strong winds throughout the canyon, destroying targets and knocking the snow off the ground. They tired themself out, but anything was better than remembering Teba.
A voice called out, but Cerouh ignored them. Spreading their wings, they thought they could use Storm to rocket himself into the air, like Master Revali could do. Shifting their wings palm down, they let Storm rush through their feathers, and-
"Master Cerouh!" That voice called, and Cerouh nearly lost their focus.
"I'm busy." They ground out, clenching his beak and eyes shut. Hylia, they were tired.
"Master Cerouh! It’s me, Princess-"
Cerouh released the power, and the wind caught their wings in a way he never could have imagined. He felt free. He flapped his wings and squawked out a laugh. He never thought of that before, how could they have been so blind-
"Are you done?" The Hylian woman below them spoke, and Cerouh swore she was familiar. "I'm Princess Zelda. I heard you were talented, but even that exceeded my expectations."
"Well of course." Cerouh landed on the wooden platform with a click of their talons. He sighed. "What is it?"
"I would like to personally tell you that I have chosen you to be Vah Medoh's pilot, and to be one of Hyrule's champions." The Princess grinned at the Rito boy. "You’ll need to be at the Castle tomorrow morning for inauguration and orientation. I'd suggest getting ready now and start the journey today so that you aren't late. I've heard the previous Rito champion was, ah... not very punctual."
Cerouh scoffed, but nodded. "Of course, your highness. I'll be there as soon as I can." He turned his back, spreading their wings and activating Storm.
"I'll have guards awaiting your arrival, Champion Cerouh."
They didn’t know what it was, but being called "Master" and "Champion" ruffled their plumage in all the right places.
---
The flight to Hyrule Castle took 2 hours. Two. Fucking. Hours. Cerouh's wings were sore when he landed, and he was tired. Hyrule's mainland was warm, and they had to remove the leggings they wore to protect their leg scutes from hypothermia.
As the Princess promised, two knights met Cerouh outside the castle gates, and they guided the Rito to his temporary room. This room sat on the top of a tower, and Cerouh thought it was to help make him feel more comfortable. That was just a theory though.
Not that it actually helped.
Maybe it did.
Cerouh set their bags on the large bed, and he sat down on (more like jumped up onto) the bed. He fell back and spread their wings, letting their tired muscles rest and relax. He let out a satisfied coo, and closed his eyes. The bed was soft, though not as comfortably as a nest or hammock. They prefered to be surrounded in all sides, though this will do for now. They clenched and unclenched their taloned toes, forcing their tight and tense muscles to loosen up.
Soon enough, their feathers were fluffing up, and they ground their beak. Cerouh's eyelids grew heavy, and they started succumbing to sleep.
There was a loud knock at the door, and Cerouh jolted awake, an involuntary screech escaping their beak.
The door opened to a laughing Princess Zelda, and Cerouh glared at the Hylian.
"Haha, very funny, scaring the ever-loving shit out of the Rito." Cerouh leaned back on their wings. They flattened their feathers. "What is it?"
"I was coming to inform you that dinner was nearly ready, and want to know if you'd prefer to eat in the dining hall or in here, and what you would like on your platter."
Cerouh fell back onto the bed, groaning.
---
The next morning, Cerouh felt groggy and grumpy. Hylian beds were ridiculously uncomfortable, and the Rito could not get comfortable. However, they had to get up and put their feather paint on and tidy up their plume. A blue scarf sat folded on an end table, and Cerouh tied it around their bicep. He grabbed his belt and put it on, strapping his spear to his back. They opened the door to the bedroom, and took a deep, calming breath. He would be meeting the other Champions today. As well as the king. He couldn’t help himself; he started to do a little happy dance, tapping his talons on the floor and spinning. He pumped his fists, cheering to himself. This was really happening. He was following in his hero's footsteps! They were a champion!
Cerouh calmed himself, and began his trek to the sanctum. The only sound he heard were the soft clicks of his talons scraping against the carpeted stone floors. It was almost eery, but as he approached the sanctum, he heard talking in many different tongues, most he did not understand. Ah, so there were guests other than the champions. He opened the large doors to the sanctum, and it couldn’t have been more dramatic. The speaking stopped, and all eyes were on Cerouh. Normally, this would have been ideal, however it just made them feel like he ducked up.
So, putting on a confident façade, they fluffled his feathers and stuck their beak up, entering the large sanctum. He spotted a small Zora female with the same blue garb he wore, and sighed in relief. He wasn’t the only Champion here. Nor was he late, as the Zora was the only other Champion here. He saw a few Rito, and he searched for a familiar face.
When he saw Teba's wife, Saki, he smiled. When their eyes met, it was like a mother and son reunion. They met halfway in a hug, Cerouh's feathers puffing up.
"I am so proud of you, dear." Saki cooed, and Cerouh let out a soft purr.
"Thank you..." He clung to the elderly Rito, face pressed into the woman's chest fluff.
Pulling away, Cerouh blinked back tears before they could fall and ruin his makeup. They bristled, someone was approaching.
"Hello," a kind voice greeted, and Cerouh turned to see the small Zora girl. "I am Princess Rita. I was chosen to be the pilot of Vah Ruta."
Cerouh looked the girl up and down. She was quite beautiful, with her shiny red skin and golden eyes. Strangely enough, she carried a bow with her.
Cerouh bowed their head. "I am Cerouh, pilot of Vah Medoh. Pleasure to make your acquaintance."
"My father, King Sidon, says he knew the previous Rito champion. I thought you would like to know more about Master Revali, on a more personal level."
Cerouh was about to answer before a flash of gold caught their attention, and he is a simple bird, so he snapped their beak shut and turned their head in the direction of the gold. It was just Princess Zelda coming over.
Of course.
Of course he would let his simple brain be distracted by her stupidly shiny hair.
"I see you two have met!" Zelda exclaimed cheerfully, and Cerouh huffed in annoyance. "The other two Champions have arrived. Please, come to the center of the sanctum."
In the Center stood a tall, heavily muscled Gerudo woman with beautiful bronze skin and contrasting pastel red hair drawn back into two long and thick pleats that ended to about her fucking ankles and large rotund Goron who had strangely gray skin. Both wore that same blue cloth, the Gerudo wearing it like a shawl around her shoulders and the Goron having it tucked into his belt.
Between the Goron and Gerudo stood a short Hylian boy, with ashy blond hair. He wore a hooded cape of the same color as the Champion garb, and Cerouh sneered. He wasn’t aware that there would be a fifth Champion. Which Beast would he even pilot?
...Was piloting a requirement?
Cerouh stood next to the tall Gerudo, and he felt intimidated by her stature. His body was tense, and he closed his eyes to calm himself down.
"You know, this is quite interesting. I never thought those Divine Beasts would be piloted again after the Calamity. I hear they are still haunted by the previous pilots." The tall woman whispered, slightly leaning down and to the side so that Cerouh could hear her. "My name is Bosu. You are?"
"Cerouh." They responded shortly, eyes on the King in front of them. He wasn't quite ready to speak, as he was speaking to a royal guard about something. "You are piloting Vah Neboris, then?"
"That would be correct, my friend. It really is a beauty. I suppose you have a special ability that got the Princess interested in you as well. What is it?"
"Champions!" The King rose, and everyone turned their attention to the large man. "That color you now wear is a symbol of the royal family, wear it with pride! It will mark you as Hyrule's Warriors, and pilots of the four Divine Beasts! I thank you on behalf of the entirety of Hyrule for your future services to this kingdom and its people. Champion Rita, step forward."
The small Zora princess stepped forward and knelt down onto a knee, head bowed in respect for the king.
"With your gift of Healing, you are to pilot the kind Beast Vah Ruta. Take this responsibility with care and precision to protect your fellow inhabitants of Hyrule. Champion Krous, step forward."
Rita stood and backed up back into line as the Goron stepped forward and knelt the same as the previous Champion had.
"With your gift of Quakes, you are to pilot the powerful Beast Vah Rudania. Take this responsibility with care and precision to protect your fellow inhabitants of Hyrule. Champion Bosu, step forward."
Cerouh watched the Gerudo woman do the same motions the previous two had, and they memorized the movement. He was next. He was about to be sworn in.
"With your gift of Teleportation, you are to pilot the graceful Beast Vah Neboris. Take this responsibility with care and precision to protect your fellow inhabitants of Hyrule. Champion Cerouh, step forward."
Cerouh took a deep, shaky breath and stepped forward and knelt down onto his knee. They were shaking so bad. This is it. No turning back now.
"With your gift of Storms, you are to pilot the aloof Beast Vah Medoh. Take this responsibility with care and precision to protect your fellow inhabitants of Hyrule. And finally, Sir Link."
Cerouh stood on weak legs and stepped back. They watched the Hylian boy step forward and kneel down, head bowed and hiding his expression.
"With the spirit of the hero, and the Triforce of Courage guiding you, you are to protect Princess Zelda, my daughter, and claim the Sword that Seals the Darkness in case the Demon King Ganon rises once more. You are to assist Zelda in her quest to awaken the blood of the goddess in her. Take this responsibility with care and precision to protect your fellow inhabitants of Hyrule. Champions, step forth once more, and accept my, my daughters, and your peoples' blessings and trust to watch over and protect your fellow citizens."
Cerouh stepped forward and knelt back down, just as they had before, and so did the other three. Cerouh caught a glance of the Hylian boy and scowled. Was he really all that of what the King said? "Spirit of the hero". That sounded like an awful lot for such a small boy. And what was with the "Triforce of Courage" bullcrap? People still believe the Triforce exists?
The King led the people in a prayer, one that promised good fortune and protection over the Champions. Cerouh used the opportunity to relax and take a few deep breaths. If he raised his wing, he was sure he would be shaking like a feather in a blizzard. They closed their eyes, letting their mind wander.
Bosu had said that the Divine Beasts were still haunted by their previous pilots. Was that true? Did that mean Cerouh could meet Master Revali? That was something that Cerouh could have only dreamed of happening, and it felt too good to be true. There was no way they could meet their lifelong hero. It was... asinine.
The prayer ended. The Champions (and knight) stood, and turned their attention to the Princess, who now stood in front of her father.
"Champions, if you would please follow me." She spoke, almost monotonously, and Cerouh knew it was unnatural, even if they had only known her for barely a day. She began leading the five outside of the sanctum, and Cerouh was glad to have less eyes on him.
The Princess led them outside to a courtyard fountain. It was a beautiful day, with cloudless blue skies reaching out as far as the eye could see. It smelt of late spring and fresh cut grass. Under the arch of the fountain, the Princess stopped.
"Feel free to mingle. I know how stressful it can be to be in the limelight." She tilted her head and smiled sweetly, and Cerouh huffed.
"Stressful maybe for these four dolts. I saw no issue with it." Cerouh stated, crossing their wings over their chest and sticking their beak in the air. Maybe he was being cocky and narcissistic, but he had a right to be. He is a Champion now! Greatest of great!
"Are you sure about that?" Bosu's teasing voice cut in, and Cerouh's eye twitched. "You looked ready to keel over, you were shaking so much!"
"I was not-!" Cerouh began to defend, clenching their feathered fingers into a fist.
"Sorry to break it to ya, little guy, but it was kinda obvious." The Goron, Krous, remarked with a hearty chuckle, and Cerouh let out a low growl.
"I was not shaking!" Cerouh was starting to feel embarrassed. He guessed it would have been obvious, especially since he was covered head to knee in feathers.
"Don’t worry, Cerouh, I was quite nervous too." Rita confessed, her cheeks painted in blue blush. "All those people, and the king! Gosh, I felt like I was about to implode!"
Cerouh shook his head, turning from the group with a flip of their plume. "You're all insane."
"You know," a quiet, foreign voice interjected. "I was pretty nervous too."
Cerouh turned back to see who had spoken, and saw all eyes on the Hylian knight. What was his name again? Link?
"Really? You looked as calm and collected as the King himself!" Bosu laughed, hands on her hips.
"I usually look like that." Link mumbled, looking away sheepishly.
Cerouh shook his head. This group was going to be the death of him...
—
The Champions were released back to their temporary chambers for the night. They would be returning to their homes the next day to begin learning how to pilot their respective Divine Beasts, and for some reason, this made Cerouh feel nervous. Was it thought of piloting such a big machine, or the thought of possibly meeting their predecessor? Cerouh couldn’t tell, but it made it hard(er) to sleep at night. The flight back to Rito Village was going to be long without proper rest, that's for sure.
---
They woke early the next morning and departed without saying goodbye to anyone. Chalk it up to being excited or being antisocial, it doesn't matter to Cerouh. He just wanted to go home.
The flight back to Rito Village took an extra half hour than when he first came to Hyrule's mainland. Cerouh was tired, sore, and antsy when his talons touched down on one of the village's landing platforms. Many of the inhabitants were still out in Central Hyrule, so he was mostly on his own. So, they pushed themself to his limit and flew to the very tip top of the rock that the village spiraled around. Cerouh panted softly, watching the bird shaped Beast circle around the village. The soft blue lighting pulsed like a heartbeat, and the machine let out a coo quite similar to a Rito's call.
Cerouh sat on the rock, watching Medoh circle around. It was peaceful, and they found themself laying back.
A green light on top of Medoh's back caught his attention, and their brows furrowed. It seemed to take the shape of a Rito, with a large crest and three pleats floating in the wind. The light seemed to be watching Cerouh, and he sat up. They never took their eyes off the light.
The figure turned around, and Cerouh stood up and used Storm to propel themself up into the air and onto the back of the large Divine Beast. The figure stood near a terminal of some kind, an aloof air about them that reeked of regency. But, at the same time, they seemed sad.
"Who are you?" Cerouh asked the other Rito, reaching back for his spear.
"I supposed no... physical records of my appearance were kept. I was the pilot of Vah Medoh, once upon a time, did you know that?" The figure turned to face Cerouh, head tilted to the side and shifting their weight onto one side. "Don't tell me they didn't pass down the stories."
"You're-" Cerouh nearly dropped their spear. "You're Master Revali." He stepped forward, beak agape in awe. "It wasn't just a wive's tale? You really do haunt the Divine Beast?"
"We all do." The ghost nodded, looking up. "I guess this means that they decided to choose new Champions. Are tensions rising in Hyrule again?"
"No? I don’t think so, anyway." Cerouh put their spear away. "I'm sorry, but is this... real? Or am I dreaming? I'm probably asleep on the rock, aren't I?" He ran his feathered hand through his plume, gripping at the feathers on the back of his head.
"I can assure you, boy, that this is very real. What is your name?"
"Ah- Cerouh, Master Revali. I am the one taking up pilotship of Vah Medoh. Inauguration was-"
"I don’t need to know all /that/. Just your name." Revali snapped, eyes thinning into slits as he glared at the young Rito.
"Right, sorry Master-"
"Oh, hush it with this 'Master' crap. I am dead. I am no longer a master, nor do I qualify to be your superior. I should be the one call you Master, really." And though it sounded like he hated that prospect, Revali regarded Cerouh with such respect that it made the young Rito bristle and fluff up.
"Right, of course. Err, is there... anything you could do to teach me how to pilot this Beast?" Cerouh squawked, playing with his feathered fingers. His face was burning hot, and he thanked the Goddesses above that it was covered in feathers.
With a flip of his braids, Revali turned to the terminal.
"I supposed I could. I would ask to duel, though, to prove you worthy, but I've seen your matches with the elder. You are quite skilled with that spear, I'll admit. Come, let me show you what to do."
Cerouh stepped closer to the warrior, and a cold chill ran over his skin. He had gotten quite close to the late Champion when he stopped.
"Put your hand over the terminal. The Divine Beast needs to learn who you are before you can learn to use it. Everything else will come like second nature." Revali instructed, stepping back so that Cerouh could hover their palm over the glowing terminal.
Cerouh did as told, outstretching his fingers as he did. They felt a cool wing press into their lower back, and in the corner of their eye, they saw Revali watching their hand over the terminal. They took a deep breath, focusing on the stone beneath them and the rumbling of the mechanics the Beast used to run.
Something suddenly washed over Cerouh, and he tensed up. Something had seized over their body, and he couldn’t get his body to listen.
New Champion of the Rito people, hear my words. A deep rumbling voice rang through Cerouh's mind. A trial awaits you before you can claim this Divine Beast. A new system we Sheikah have put in place to test your strength, to determine if you are strong enough to pilot Vah Medoh.
"Interesting..." Cerouh heard Revali hum, and he internally shivered. He was so close, and Cerouh was having a hard time concentrating.
This trial will consist of puzzles and battles your predecessor fought before. Do not fear, you cannot be physically harmed. Your spirit will be sent to a different realm. Are you ready to begin?
"Battles I have fought before, huh? That's... concerning. The only battle I really remember is..." The hand on Cerouh's back tensed. "You must be careful, Cerouh. If I'm not mistaken, you will be fighting a recreation of one of Ganon's creations. Please, for the love of Hyrule, do not fuck this up."
Nodding, Cerouh's vision blacked out, and they lost consciousness.
---
They lifted their head, groaning in pain. His body ached in places it's never ached before, and they felt disoriented. He opened his eyes to see a carbon copy of the top of Vah Medoh, but bathed in an ethereal blue light.
Cerouh sat up onto their knees, cradling their head in his wing. Instinctively, he reached for his spear, only to find it missing. He tensed up, hissing through his beak.
"Cerouh. Cerouh, can you hear me?" Revali's voice rang, and Cerouh nodded, though not knowing if the other Rito saw. "I don't think your weapon followed you. You'll have to find another one inside the Divine Beast."
"Gee, thanks Captain obvious..." They muttered, standing up. Cerouh looked around, looking for a way inside Medoh. They spotted a hole and ran over, hopping down and using their wings to slow the fall. Looking around, they were met with a maze of machinery and strange lumps of dark goo and... rock? They were inlaid with weird spherical eyes that seemed to be searching... for something he couldn't have know. Probably them.
That thought made Cerouh shudder.
Avoiding the eye-thing's gaze, Cerouh started to walk through the Beast, looking for anything that could hold, or be, a weapon. The area was silent, and it made him uncomfortable. Eventually, he found a strange stone chest and knelt down to open it.
Inside held a bow and full quiver of arrows. Not their weapon of choice, but they were still skilled enough with it not to feel naked.
Cerouh strapped the bow to his belt and continued on. He came up on a terminal-like structure.
Champion. That voice spoke. Press your palm against the terminal. It should react to your spirit.
Cerouh hesitated. Would- would it really? Holding their wing above the terminal, they closed their eyes and pressed down.
They could feel how cold the terminal was against their palm through their feathers. A mechanical whirring coaxed their eyes open, and he saw the terminal glowing blue now. They turned around to see mechanisms that were previously still now moving. Cerouh looked back at the goop, and pulled out the bow. Knocking an arrow into the string, they squared his shoulders and aimed for the eye.
The goop disappeared in poof of black smoke, and opened up another way for Cerouh to walk. They put the bow back onto his belt, and walked to the other side of the room. The wall was lined with paneless windows, and Cerouh peaked out, not seeing any platform he could jump onto.
---
They made their way through the maze inside the Beast, activating terminals and solving puzzles. When the last terminal glowed blue, that voice echoed through the room.
Return to the top of Vah Medoh. Activate the control panel.
"Right, sure. Better now than never." Cerouh returned to the first room he had dropped into and found the hole he entered from, using Storm to propel himself upward. They dropped to the ground and looked at the glowing orange light of the control panel. Another chest caught their eye, and he approached it first. Inside was a beautifully crafted spear, and seemed much stronger than their own. They picked the weapon up, and smirked. They hoped to Hylia that they would get to keep at least this beaty.
Cerouh pressed their palm flat against the panel, and Medoh trembled beneath their feet. They held onto the panel for stability, and watched with fearful eyes as a huge robotic monster rose into the sky.
"Windblight Ganon, the monster responsible for my death." Revali spoke in Cerouh's ear. They gulped nervously, backing away. They drew his bow, knocking an arrow to the string. It had a single eye, and if Cerouh hit it, they believed they had this in the bag.
Didn't matter that this beast was terrifying in every way.
He could do this.
They were the strongest warrior in Rito Village.
They were a Champion.
The beast let out a terrifying screech, one that nearly made Cerouh's ears bleed. The wind whipped around, but they stood their ground. Windblight Ganon raised its large arm and pointed it at Cerouh. It sounded like it was charging an attack, and the light in the middle of the arm was getting brighter. Cerouh raised his bow and pointed it at the beast's eye, drawing the string back and clenching their beak.
Just as they released the string, Windblight released its own attack, a beam of light racing toward the Rito. They flipped away, flapping their wings and transferring their bow to their talons. The beast roared, the arrow hitting its mark. They drew the bow again, aiming for the light on the beast's arm. The beast fell, and Cerouh put the bow back and flew forward, and drew their spear, attacking Windblight while it was down. It let out pained roars and screams, thrashing around as Cerouh dashed around, stabbing and slicing the monster wherever he could.
Eventually, Windblight shook free, and with a roar, released winds so strong that the Rito flew back. Cerouh barely caught themself with their wings, spear trapped in their beak.
"Alright, big guy. This isn't too bad." They told himself, bow at the ready again and pointed at the monster.
A sudden tornado knocked them off balance, and they dropped their bow. A startled screech escaped their beak, and they fell to the ground. His spear skittered away, and they struggled to get up to their knees. Windblight was readying another one of those beams, and Cerouh could only watch as the beast built power in that blue light.
They got their strength back at the last minute and rolled away, grabbing both spear and bow on the way. Spear back in his mouth and bow in wing, they readied their attack. They noticed a pattern; Windblight would be tired after a blast like that, and would just float there afterwards. Like it was waiting for an attack.
The arrow stabbed into the glowing eye and the beast fell back. It laid still and Cerouh readied his spear to attack.
But Windblight was not moving.
There was no way it could be that easy?
Right?
Congratulations, Champion. That deep voice boomed. You have defeated Windblight Ganon.
And as if on cue, the beast exploded into black and purple smoke. The control panel glowed orange once more.
Touch the panel, let Vah Medoh learn your touch.
Almost automatically, Cerouh did as he was instructed palm pressed against that cool stone terminal.
---
With a rush of wind, Cerouh doubled over the terminal, gasping for air. The top of Vah Medoh was no longer bathed in blue light, and the wind ruffling their feathers was loud in his ears.
"You... you did it." Revali spoke, almost in disbelief.
"That was too easy, and not in the good way." Cerouh groaned, pressing their forehead against the terminal. "It felt... rushed."
"I think you should be grateful." The ghost's cooed matter-of-factly. "I didn’t get out that easy."
"I know. Which is-" they turned around to face the previous pilot. "Which is why I'm confused."
"That, or you're selling yourself short."
Cerouh rolled his eyes. "I highly doubt that. But... I guess I can live with it. It's not like it happened physically."
"Ah," Revali clicked his tongue. "That's what it is. Your ego."
"My ego? That fight barely lasted five minutes!" Cerouh was appalled. How dare-
"I was like you, once, you know. I was... humbled, by that beast, so to speak. I know how you feel, it was quite anticlimactic, wasn't it?"
"Now you get it..." Cerouh crossed their wings over their chest. They averted his gaze, staring down at the village below. People were beginning to return, and no doubt wondering where he was. They walked to the edge of the Beast, watching the people settle back into their nests.
"You were still remarkable, Cerouh. If it means anything, I think you are worthy of the title Champion. Worthy of piloting Vah Medoh." Revali hummed, following Cerouh. He sat down, watching their people with a certain sadness that Cerouh couldn’t begin to fathom.
"Thanks. Means a lot, you know, coming from my hero." They sat as well, adjusting their tail feathers to fan out behind them.
"Your hero? I am honored." There was the arrogant Revali that was described in the stories.
"Oh, please. You have to be every chick's hero. Everyone wants to be like you." Cerouh laughed, looking at the green ghost. A sense of calm washes over the two as they watched the Rito bustle around in the village, children running around with toy bows. Even way up on Vah Medoh, their cheerful laughs could be heard. Revali sighed, and Cerouh looked over.
"You should get back to your people and rest, Cerouh." Revali whispered. He looked tired.
"Right," they nodded, standing up. "It was nice meeting you, Mast- Revali."
Revali stood as well, chest puffed out. "It was a pleasure, Cerouh. You will do good for our people, I know it. You won't disappoint me."
Cerouh grinned wide at the other Rito and turned away towards the edge. Spreading their wings, they looked back at his childhood hero and smirked.
"I know I won't. Just watch me exceed all expectations, Master Revali. Just you wait." They fell forward, the wind catching their feathers and guiding them down from Medoh and to Rito Village. Cerouh could hear the cheers and chants from their people as he flew around the rock, and onto the landing platform. He was met with congratulatory words and claps on their back and shoulders, and chicks ran around his legs until he picked them up.
They looked back up to Medoh, and watched the wavering green light fade.
"Just you wait, Master Revali…"

YOU FORGOT THE BESTEST BOY?? :( /lh but yea you make a good point, Scar's too much of a trickster, Yiga merchant fits better
False as Urbosa yes. absolutely law. Skizz as Daruk seems interesting, he and Impulse definitely feel like Gorons to me ajfjks
was looking through the list of Hermits (I struggle to remember them all sobs) and for some reason Gem and Pearl as Rito and Beef and Xisuma as Zora popped into my head? not sure why exactly though, very feeling-based suggestions there hefjks
Listen listen most of the time I'm thinking about my baby boy trans icon Yunobo because he makes me happy bdfiadvbai /lh
Ooooo, I'm listening cause those do sound like a lot of fun. Xisuma honestly does fit Zora in a way that's just hard to explain and Gem's got that sorta style that just fits the Rito. Gonna drag in some Empires characters by saying Oli is also a Rito, he's a traveling bard that just fucks off into the wild, like Kass except he's fucking feral and doesn't know what he's doing. Joe would be the one to give the quests to Mumbo that relate to Kass' shrine quests.
Ngl Skizz was chose cus he'd call Mumbo his little buddy, like Daruk did to Link XD.
Pearl as the past Rito Champion and either Jimmy or Gem as the modern Champions is soo 👀👀👀

…You are not wrong about sheer numbers with this man. I think you've been a rockstar about what you've got, though, because if you went through EVERY possibility you'd go insane.
-Unknown: You are not wrong about descendants being light on personality, but at least we ALL agree this child is to be protected at all costs (and I see that little shiny egg)~ I, too, was PISSED about Adam's kid. No name, no gender, no wife's name--bet ya they just added it in to make his (dick move) death sadder. T_T -Kim: 👌 -Kat: 👍 -Bulk: 👏👏🥧✨ -Tommy: Jesus, that carnival date introduction must have made Tommy look like he was having a stroke after hearing the words. But good job turning something so INTOLERABLY AWKWARD into a win--especially since learning to take care of other people tends to make him take care of himself. And I am FULLY behind love and commitment without marriage. Nice try, Rita. A false hand, but nice try. ^^; Lizzie's "good at picking up subtext" probably means she takes after Skull (thankfully) given...yeah, Tommy has the smart/dumb conundrum. Hunter...is this a little bit of irony on display? "Became the hunted" rings to mind. But I do love that he really, really wants to FINISH SCHOOL GDI, before any and everything else. Also, yes, please, give this boy Black. Black will love him~ -Jason: ...okay, this is new; but sure, let's have Madame Skullovitch be into jailbait as well as a terrible parent; that fits. And yaaaay for continuing on with Tommy providing the safe harbor nobody knows about!
GUIDENCE COUNSELOR SKULL/KARATE INSTRUCTOR JASON. Marriage of necessity to adopt Stan's orphan girl to keep her the hell away from the scumbag grandparents. YES TO ALL. *Looks at Rebecca, her colors, and her disposition* So she could grow up to be a bitchin' lawyer, but she'll have to get out of the habit of crying if she gets yelled at. I LOVE HER 😌 -Trini: Well this is a very balanced couple. One kid out of wedlock each and then a joint kid to get patted and cuddled and loved by all parties involved. Bet a nickel that Minh drags him into social situations only for Spike to rescue him. I WANT THAT PLUSHIE, omg. -Rito: …..Wait, does that mean Bulk and Skull had to live on the moon in the palace when Goldar and Rito weren't on earth doing their jobs on the police force? I mean, they are actually hyper competent with this kind of work and could TOTALLY caretake an entire castle, so I'm for it...but where did they sleep?? *claps for Rito* Good man! Turning the scumbag parents into the mongrels they are and giving Stan a proper chance! Full marks! This is a lovely, lovely life to have with an adorable rapscallion of a son; I adore the idea of Rito and Skull being captains much like Shakespeare in Stardust, with a little of the softest bit of Long John Silver tucked in for flavor. Elio is such a pretty boy with such a pretty name--how unfortunate that it makes me think of that gd Call Me By Your Name and immediately tack it onto the boy's love life. *sigh* Bulk will consent to this because Rito is a nice enough guy and Skull is happy, their SON is happy, and that's all that counts. Billy...I'm pretty sure, from his view, it's only one-third jealousy and one-third the J.J. and young ranger thing, and one-third worried about what a MASSIVE age difference will do with Skull and Rito when Skull hits middle-age and Rito tries to do something about it. ….That tangential AU makes me want to sob. But also curious as to WHICH comic!Skull Elio grows into similarity for. -Adam: This is so pure and wholesome, I wanna scream. Lucky Lukas, he gets dads that can provide for him in all things; one in soft confidence and one in sheer experience (wow, Skull, just WOW). -Aisha: I mean, in Skull's defense, Aisha is a CATCH and he KNOWS IT; by his mind, no way she would be serious about dating him. But the height difference probably made him imbibe on sheer principal. Kensie is going to have SO many friends with this disposition once the pastel heroes show up in town. I can just picture this pocket sized pianist kicking a rock at a monster menacing a Red or Pink and BAM! Instant Ranger assist~ -Zack: Yeeeeeeah, Zack is a PRINCE, but it would take a few years for Skull to trust that. Ice Cream parlor owners and waiters feels so soft and perfect :D I am willing to bet that Archie DOES inherit the parlor, BUT not before one of his dads introduce him to a Mystic. And not before making sure Mari feels safe and secure in this new place with these awesome dads.
Eugene Skullovitch canon and non canon kids
-stares at his sheer List of close friendships, implied romances, romances, and everything in between- I think Skull vies with Tommy for sheer amounts. Tommy or Billy, but definitely up there. At the very least I can say this is because he’s a reoccurring character over several seasons and movies and not because they were trying to force a hetero romance so nobody noticed the actor was gay. Skull’s naturally flirtatious demeanor and huge presence in the show is certainly to blame for this. So. I’m more than likely missing some, but -shrugs- I am doing My Best lol.
Canon kids:
Unknown mother;
Spike Skullovitch. Like Minh the other parent isn’t known or needed, so Spike never got her named. It’s led to a lot of ideas of who the mom is, au’s where he’s a putty hybrid, and just a whole lot of fun. But let’s focus on canon. Spike is the teenaged son of a now very famous and very rich Eugene Skullovitch. He spent the summer with his “uncle” Bulk. He’s got a massive crush on Mia and he wants to be a samurai and he’s always eager to help the power rangers. And can I just say I love this guy? He’s a cinnamon role. He’s a sweetie. He’s a baby doll and must be protected at all costs. He’s the sweetest of the confirmed canon kids we know of so far (I AM looking at Coinless!Adam’s unnamed son, yes I am. Child I wish we’d seen you before you died. I’d love to know your name) unfortunately the descendants don’t seem to get a lot of personality as a general rule, and even Spike’s a little light on personality. He’s got enough to make him stand out from his dad. But, I can’t help but adore him lol. Sir who are you and who’s your mom? Second bit doesn’t matter but I’d love to know you better.
Non canon oc and alternate reality kids and grandkids:
for the sake of not wanting to sound repetitive, not every universe will have Spike, just ones that make sense/would be interesting for him.
Kimberly Hart;
Stormy Hart, aged seventeen. Her parents are separated. Despite the rocky start with Eugene being Kim’s rebound, they got together again after the Candace Incident. Kim progressed on Eugene’s terms, and they had a kiddo right as they were applying for colleges. It was a bit difficult and they made it work, but when Stormy was seven they finally had to separate, though they’re not on bad terms. Stormy is Spike’s half sister, and has her own band. Has anxiety and depression. Doesn’t spend time with brother or Bulk, at least as much as she should. Mostly for her appearance. Got extremely jealous of Spike over the power rangers thing though! She generally lives with her mom, not her dad, hence why she doesn’t spend time with Spike. She loves her goofy half brother but she’s at the age where her image is important to her. She doesn’t have any colors associated with her.
Katherine Hillard;
I thought his mild attempts at flirting were cute. They got together after Turbo’s movie. Kat realized she was never going to replace Kim for Tommy, and broke up with him. She got with Skull after a few months and some very creative ways to ask her out. They have two sons. The oldest is Squire Hillard. Aged 17. He’s average height and kind of a brilliant himbo. He lets his reputation cover him like a mask, but he’s pretty devious when he’s properly motivated. A little bit of a tail chaser. He keeps striking out, but that never stopped him. While he is a power ranger (pink), he’s having fun running a podcast questioning who the power rangers are. This cover is so good not even Kat’s figured out he’s pink turbo ranger. Looks like a surfer bro. Prefers it that way. Half brother of Spike Skullovitch. Has had to save his half brother three times so far. Barely gets along with his dad, county Sheriff Eugene Skullovitch, but they’re trying. He’s closer to Kat and like her is a professional diver. He wants to get into the Olympics. His general outfit could best be described as “someone from the peppermint forest in candyland decided to become a pirate”. He actually has a rap sheet. He’s got middle child syndrome and you can usually find him with his friends, the other Turbo rangers, or with Bulk, or egging grandmas house with Devon. He’s giving Eugene a bald spot is what he’s doing. Spike does his best, but they really don’t see eye to eye. Squire likes his big brother, there’s just a bit of frustration with him.
Devon Skullovitch, aged eleven. Unlike Squire he’s not blond and looks more like Eugene and Spike. Bulk calls him the baby buddy, and it annoys him so so much. Loves video games and fixing cars. Can eat his weight in lasagna. Not associated with any color. Knows his brother is up to something, unsure what. Often getting babysit by half brother. Is known to egg his grandmothers house. A lot. It’s a problem.
Billy Cranston;
After being best friends as kids, then not, then sort of friends, then maybe more...they have two kids. Charlie Cranston, aged twenty two, and Oscar "Skid" Cranston, aged twenty. Charlie and Oscar are both via a science experiment, where Billy combined his and Eugene's genetic codes in a randomizer, to see if anything would happen that was viable as a sperm and egg equivalent. Yes, he got permission for this from Eugene. He sold the patent, and lives happily with his and Eugene's kids. Charlie is a blue solar ranger. She has been since she was seventeen. Billy didn't know at first and when he found out....he grounded her for not telling him. Then came back thirty minutes later, apologized, ungrounded her, and told her to be careful. Eugene doesn't get it as much but he's trying, he really is. He worries more than Billy, though Billy does often find himself staring up at the stars on late nights with tea in his hand, knots in his stomach and hoping he sees his daughter for Christmas. It's different, somehow, when they're in space and not in town.
Oscar is friends with a Bulkmeier, of course. He's the family "problem child", in a general sense. The prankster, and he's super smart. He is mild enough nobody really thinks he's as smartass and clever as he is. His entire motivation is cause as much chaos as possible. He used to prank his sister once a month until she left, and he's the one who let slip she's a power ranger because she was thrown through a building in front of him. She didn't know he knew, and he's been apologizing since via no more pranks, and gifts. so many gifts. Her favorite foods, updates on her favorite bands, jewelry she'd like. He doesn't have to but he feels bad. This was the closest they ever got to the family splintering. Trini, Zack, and Jason do their best to help the three deal with Charlie in space. Oscar works as a janitor, isn't really interested in dealing with school or anything. He likes doing his hobbies while having a stable job.
variation; they get together when he helps Skull with his newborn son. Spike takes care of his little siblings, and helped Oscar get his nickname and his current job. Billy is eternally caring to his adopted kid, and does the best he can by Spike.
variation 2; Charlie becomes Charlie from A Team. This time, Billy DOES ground her. she never hears the end of it
Farkas Bulkmeier;
Absolutely nobody was surprised when they got together. Eugene became a teen dad and Bulk didn't even think twice. He could fit boyfriend in one arm and baby in the other and he often did in the early days when sleeping with the two. For comfort and sense of protection. Skull was his best friend, and everything he'd ever want in a partner. They didn't bother with a ceremonial wedding, it was just going to get the paperwork signed and then having a big party celebrating with their friends. They have Spike, of course, and adopted one more. Between Spike and Amy, they're good. Sharkie offered to be a surrogate, and Billy offered a way to mix their genetics, but after a long talk with each other and them, it was just Spike and Amy.
Amy and Spike are the same age, with a four month difference. Spike's more emotionally mature than his sister, but Amy's more cunning and less naive than Spike. Currently both eighteen. She's jaded in a lot of ways and makes sure her brother doesn't have to be. Spike has had to ask her not to threaten any partners he might get with, because he can handle himself. She's had to occassionaly ask this goes both ways. Amy is considering being a mechanic, or a roadie for Skull or Spike. She likes feeling useful, she likes puzzles and chess and general challenges. Cannot cook to save her life, but she's a whiz at baking. She's better at math than anyone else in her family. But english is the bane of her existence. Is not associated with a color.
Tommy Oliver;
Tommy invited Skull to a carnival. After first being asked if Skull was a rebound-with a fast follow up to make sure Tommy wasn't taking him to something run entirely by putties-and then asking if he was sure sure Goldar and Skorpina wouldn't be there-Tommy decided he was going to make this a date. and the best one of Skull's life. The effort to help this guy have a proper, healthy, fair love life, meant it more or less accidentally lead to falling in love and while not marriage, they do live together. They have Spike, an adopted daughter Eliza, and a son together named Hunter. Rita thought it'd "bury the hatchet" and had the forethought to let them know she'd decided her first act of being nice would be something that would benefit them. Has not in fact, buried any negative feelings but the effort did mean something. Tommy's straight up told all three of his kids they're not allowed to go to Briarwood. Just in case.
Eliza "Lizzie" Oliver is 21, and wants to be a reporter. Thinks Tommy's worries are a little extreme when they directly affect his kids' lives, but she humors him even as an adult, because she loves him and wants to see him happy. A little selfish, but very smart. Good at picking up on subtext and helps explain things that go over her brothers' heads when she's with them. Tommy's too because he might be smart, but the man is kinda dumb. Not very organized, but somehow always has what she needs in her giant purse. Very resourceful, knows how to pick locks, and is capable of two types of martial arts.
Hunter Oliver-Skullovitch is 16. He's just trying to get through highschool guys, please let him get through highschool. He's been kidnapped twice, and he really just wants to be left alone. More of a punk than Tommy gets, but Tommy and Skull are supportive of his tastes and choices in life. Unfortunately everybody wants a piece of this kid, and while he's not associated with any color (by sheer force of will), this is not from lack of attempts. Hunter's just very very good at making himself too much of a nuisance to be worth taking. Like his siblings he knows two types of martial arts, can pick locks, knows how to get into vents, knows four ways to get out of ropes and other bindings, and can say "help me I've been kidnapped" in twelve languages. as well as "fire!" and "that's not a human!". He loves monster movies, because the monsters actually seem to pose a challenge. He and Tommy do have an understanding, and Tommy and Skull are both happy to let Hunter have a choice in becoming a ranger. He won't get forced into it, if he does he will do this fully with his eyes open and knowing what he's getting into. He will become a black ranger, when he's around 20, and it will be his choice.
Jason Lee Scott;
They were paired up for a school assignment a little after Tommy was reformed and saved from Rita. It was annoying, especially with Skull being so cagey and Bulk straight up threatening him if he went to the Skullovitch residence or business. When Jason dared, he realized why. And had to get saved from Mrs Skullovitch flirting with him. Which earned Skull a lot of verbal abuse as he pulled Jason far away from the house. He felt the need to make it up to Skull, and they went from antagonizing each other to friends to semi-secretly dating each other. Everyone knew except Skull’s family. Jason didn’t even know what made him angrier; the fact Skull felt he had to protect Jason, or the fact that he lived in Tommy’s house whenever Tommy’s parents didn’t live there, and Skull’s parents didn’t seem to notice. They have one adopted daughter. Skull’s a guidance counselor at their old high school, and Jason is a karate instructor. Rebecca Scott is actually Stan’s, but Stan died and his girlfriend died in a car crash caused by monster activity, and the newborn was the only survivor. Eugene would have adopted her with or without Jason there. Luckily Jason was there, and Jason fell in instalove with the baby. She was very small and he loved her.
Jason and Skull got married to make it easier for Jason to formally adopt Rebecca, in case something happened and because everyone felt distancing her and Skull from the Skullovitch legacy was the best idea, and this could be accomplished by taking Jason's last name. He was only too happy to do this. He was disinherited by his dad, but it doesn't matter. The guy lost out on getting to know a great kid. Rebecca’s blind from the car accident, and has a dog and a cane to help her around. She’s 15, and nothing stops her. She’s got a lot of caution, but very little outright fear. The power rangers will protect the civilians, and her skills and disability aids help keep her safe as well. She loves to read, and has read every braille book in the library twice. She’s aware her dads are power rangers, and most of her extended family. They’re not going to let anything happen to her. And she’s going to make sure nothing happens to them. Rebecca is opinionated with a very strong sense of right and wrong. She’s actually rather blunt, but tries to be nice about it. She knows her mind and she knows how to direct people, but she hates being in a confrontation. Not associated with a color, but it’d probably be red or bronze if she were.
Trini Kwan;
He kept asking her out until she agreed to go out with him. And actually had a nice time. So she humored him again, and again, it was nice. They weren't seeing seeing each other though, and both of them had their kids around the same time. Skull had Spike, and Trini had Minh, and they liked each other fine and loved each other's kids. They had one more, together. August Kwan. He's thirteen, and a complete introverted social butterfly. He loves showing off and gushing about his interests but he hates dealing with too many people for too long. He's really into piano, like Skull. A composer for video game music sounds like a really fun profession, so maybe when he's older he'll work towards that. But he's thirteen, he's got time. He has a stuffed animal he's been attached to since he was two, is half convinced stuffed animal is sentient, and carries it around in his hoodie or backpack. He's not ready to let it go, and Trini fully understands, supports, and gets this. When he's ready, Banjo the seal plushy, will be put beside her own childhood doll Ticklesneezer. Skull's following along with the gentle parenting; he's a bit out of his depth but he appreciates and loves that their kids are being actively supported. He's working on it, and so far the kids aren't traumatized, so something must be working.
Rito Revulto;
Eugene managed to get him and Bulk out of being turned into chimpanzees by a (justifiably) pissed off Rito by convincing him of a role reversal; Bulk and Skull be the maids, Rito and Goldar act as Bulk and Skull. But this means Goldar and Rito have to commit to the things Bulk and Skull were doing. In this case, junior officers. It is a very weird set up, but Rito likes a challenge, he and Goldar decide it's fair, and the power rangers, Vile, Zordon and Alpha and Rita and Zedd are completely confused, but Rito tends to commit to whatever he sets his mind to, and Goldar has a very specific moral code he lives by and this falls in line with it. Vile occasionally tries to cause the comedy duo to go back on their word so he can get his tool-I mean son-back, but the rangers do step in enough to help them. As does Stone, Ernie, and the others.
Eugene and Rito bond over highly shitty parents and realizing they're very similar. They're both people pleasers whose trauma responses is sarcastic quips and being class clown types. Rito turned Eugene's parents into a couple of dogs, and while he contemplated doing the same to Stan, he simply made sure Stan got a big break in the music scene. He couldn't convince Eugene to leave earth at first, until Eugene got left behind by Bulk. There was really nothing left for him on earth, so Eugene took him up on it. They're pirates, and have their own ship, and their son Elio is the apple of their eye. Elio is 26. He's cunning, fast talking, fast thinking, fast acting and has very little fear. He's as courageous as Skull and Rito try to pretend they are. He's bold, and wicked, but he's a man of his word. He has a devil's lock coloring in his hair. Stark black hair and stark white in streaks has gotten him an affectionate nickname of Skunk, but when he likes someone he asks they call him Elio. He listens to his parents and is completely loyal to them, but not out of fear. They're genuinely good at being leaders of their group, and sort of seen as the father figures of most of the crew. Elio follows his dads because he genuinely loves working for them. He did have a splash of rebelliousness in his teens though. He learned the violin, not the piano. When not pirating, they live on Mirinoi with Bulk. He's been to earth a few times, and loves fucking with JJ Oliver, it's hilarious. Not associated with a color, but he'd happily get to know a certain shade of Green.
Does Bulk especially like the lifestyle choice for his best buddy, best buddy's partner and best buddy's kid? no. Can he deny this is the happiest he's ever seen Skull? also no. He is literally living out a childhood fantasy, and thriving. Billy, however, is this close to losing it and throwing all three in a prison on Aquitar. Skull's not even sure if this is from jealousy or being a power ranger. Or the fact Elio's flirting with every ranger close to his age as a battle tactic. Some more seriously than the others.
a tangential au is where Vile kills his parents and forces Elio to work for him. This version he does get with JJ, who went undercover on the ship to figure out what exactly happened. They manage to get Elio and the crew out of Vile's clutches safely. Elio goes from being like Rito to a lot more like comic!Skull.
Adam Park;
Eugene doesn't believe in himself, but Adam does, did, and always has. They started dating after Adam encouraged him to play the piano in the talent show. Adam loves his music, and they're both encouraging of each other. Aisha is a surrogate for their son, Lukas. Given how close she was to Adam, it was only natural in her mind to offer. She loves him, loves he's found happiness, and when they decided they wanted kids she wanted to help that happiness grow. Lukas Park's 17, plays piano, and volunteers at the animal shelter. Adam's a doctor and while Lukas respects and likes this, he'd rather be a veterinarian. Or, like Skull, a professional classical pianist. They support Lukas with whatever he wants to do or be, and he loves the fact he's not being pressured. Skull once sat him down with a list of every job he's ever done (the list was actually more like an entire manila folder bursting out the sides, it was frankly impressive), a ranking system and how much each profession made. Everything from a cop to a detective to an undercover agent for the government to a waiter at a bar to a judge at a pet show to rockstar to pianist-it was comprehensive and a little overwhelming, but at the end of each profession Skull said if it was what he wanted, he'd be proud. At the end it left Lukas fairly calm and certain no matter what choice he made, it'd be the right choice for him, and his dads would support him in this. not associated with a color
Aisha Campbell;
She asked him out and he thought it was a joke. It wasn't. They found they actually challenge each other in interesting ways. She also hates his mom and her parents love him, so that helped a lot. They've got a daughter, Kensie Campbell. Aged 15. Excitable by nature, is in the drama club. Has a near perfect memory, uses this for shenanigans, mostly when sassing her many many honorary aunts and uncles or annoying villains and monsters. Eugene is so, so proud. Aisha sometimes worries the know it all attitude is going to get her in trouble. However, nothing's happened-yet-and Kensie does seem to slowly be learning how to read the room. She plays piano to help her think. Her favorite is moonlight sonata. It partially annoys Skull, but his favorite composer is Bach, so it's more of a principle thing. Kensie is a soccer player, and has a very close best friend. Skull's getting the "what to in case you're kidnapped by a monster with your best friend" speech ready, just in case a group of crime fighting teenagers with attitude show up. not associated with a color
Zack Taylor;
Zack's always tried to give Bulk and Skull the benefit of the doubt and never felt any true antagonistic feelings to them. Annoyance sure, but he doesn't hate them. Eugene took a while to warm up to Zack though, because nice doesn't mean trustworthy, and the two eventually started dating when Eugene realized no, Zack really is just that sweet. They run an ice cream parlor together and have two adopted kids. Achibald "Archie" Taylor and Marigold "Mari" Taylor.
Archie was adopted in his teens, and while this means he doesn't get to have as much time growing up with Zack and Skull as his dads, he's got the rest of his life with them as his parents, and that's the best thing he's ever heard. He was adopted out of the foster care system at thirteen, and is nineteen. He loves botany and magic tricks. Being a stage magician or professional botanist would be really really cool. He doesn't play piano or dance but he loves watching Zack and loves listening to Eugene practice at night. Is unsure what he wants to do with his life, but inheriting the ice cream parlor would be nice, if the botany or the stage magician thing doesn't work out. is not associated with a color.
Mari was adopted last year. She's fourteen and getting used to living with her brother and her dads. They're kinda weird, but she likes them. It is weird going to a new school in a new town, with a new last name. She doesn't really know what she likes, she's still figuring it out, but she knows she likes it here and that's good enough. She does miss her old friends and home a little, but she is making new friends. Zack and Eugene give her space and understanding, and Archie's been great with advice and settling in. not associated with a color.
Sharkie;
They got together after Bulk left earth, but Sharkie did always prefer Bulk over Skull. They separated, but they're still friends. They have a son, Felix, aged 17, and he's seriously considering dropping out and going on a cross country road trip to find himself. He doesn't know what he wants or who he is. He's a lot like his parents, but he's not sure if that was just trying to make them happy or if he genuinely likes these things. They tried by him, he knows this. He's not even half bad. He just doesn't know if he's supposed to be having a midlife crisis at 17. Will be solar green ranger, and realize he enjoys country-rock (the kind of country rock that talks about murders, curses and being a gunslinger in a loveless land or people randomly turning into crows), has a knack for learning new languages, and likes ballet. He's been in ballet since he was four but so was Sharkie so the confirmation he likes it is nice. Also learns he likes playing piano, genuinely. Also nice. He comes home quite happy and a lot more settled into himself, and Skull and Sharkie are proud of him.
Tasha;
It was a complete accident, and they both feel really weird about it. But they kept the kid. Tuskin "Tusk" Skullovitch is lead singer in a punk band, and a bit of a bully at school. He's brilliant but finds it difficult to apply himself in anything he doesn't find an interest in. He loves puns, and loves confusing people. He likes studying rocks because rock music. It takes people a second. He's been smacked more than once over this, but doesn't mind. Bit clever, bit bored, bit of a troublemaker, bit of a pain in his parent's necks. Eugene does love his kid but wow, he's a little bit of a snot. Eugene's forced him into being a lifeguard over the summer to just-try and get this kid some sort of friendship with someone so he can have an attitude adjustment.
Marleau Eskin;
Surprisingly not the worst. He got her to be less of a bitch in an incident were they were taken together by a monster, and he actually lost his temper and snapped at her. When she tried to deflect by getting him to back down with a challenge (which to be fair normally worked), he raised an eyebrow, took a breath, and let loose. To say she had to do some soul searching after the extremely thorough roast would be putting it mildly. She stopped being as much of a mean girl, and he asked her out to prom. More as a dare, but she said yes. One thing led to another and while they don't talk anymore, they do have joint custody of their son Rusty Eskin. Marleau is the mayor of Angel Grove, Skull is a mechanic. It's kind of a whiplash every other month to go from mayor manor to an apartment over a carshop, but Rusty doesn't mind very much. Marleau's learned to be a lot nicer over the years, and she's a much milder version of herself to her son. Rusty on his part likes being at the carshop almost more than the manor, but it's less to do with Marleau and more to do with he hates the reputation he gets with "the mayor's son" and much prefers getting his hands dirty on a car with his dad. He likes problem solving, and fixing things. He likes shop class and he built his own motorcycle for one of the classes. He got his license and he's promised both parents he'll be careful. And he has been. He's also orange turbo ranger. This suits him more than fine.
Candice/Zelya;
Candice told him the truth about who she was, and to put it mildly, he was hurt. He had to put his foot down and tell her he needed to think about it. He really needed to think about what he was going to be doing, and what they were going to be. She waited, and he came back. And was accepting of it, mainly because she'd bit the bullet and been honest. However he had ground rules. She couldn't lie to him, if they had a kid (because things happen) the kid was going to be co-parented and if she wanted to raise future kids as an Eltaran fine but either they spent time on earth or Skull lived with them, or they did the best they could on earth. She was just grateful he was willing to try. Bulk eventually forgave her, when she went against her commander and stopped being the Bronze Guardian for the sake of her relationship with Skull. She fought in the Eltaran War against the Eltarans. While she was captured with the intent of re-educating, she was rescued by Jason and Billy.
They have a daughter, and Spike. Their daughter is Zephyr Skullovitch. she's sixteen, and she and Spike do get taught Eltaran tradition, as much as possible, on earth. Zephyr's got the Z name as she resembles Zelya more in a lot more ways. Spike's got more human dna here, but his sister's blue as a blueberry. Zephyr is best described as 'prickly' or 'grumpy' and the only person who gets her to smile is her brother. The pink ranger tries, but keeps striking out. Zelya wants to be an interdimensional diplomat, and travel universe to universe and see everything. She wants to see everything, know everything, experience everything. Intense, bull headed, one track minded, and has an almost destructive lack of self worth and imposter syndrome. almost. She might not believe in herself but her brother and her parents do. And the pink ranger chick. possibly. Zephyr is not associated with a color.
Matthew Cook;
Matt dives head first into the villain persona, and is happily doing so. He's thriving. Until he's forced into an ultimatum; save Bulk and Skull from certain death by the hands of Goldar, or vanquish the Solar Rangers. Against his better judgment, he saves Bulk and Skull. Skull, unfortunately for timing wise, had said he'd kiss whoever saved their lives minutes before Matt saved them. He's a man of his word, but he also punched him in the mouth immediately after. Matt's confused as hell. So instead of chasing after Kim, begins chasing after Skull because what was THAT. This leads to a very weird redemption arc because Matt has realized 2 things; he likes being kissed by Skull and he does not want Skull mad at him anymore. Cut to fifteen years later; they've got a kid of their own and no actual idea how they got there really. But, they're happy, don't hate each other's guts, their kid's thriving, it's all good. The entire empire of evil absolutely hates them though and Matt somehow managed to get himself on the shit list of Thor. As long as he doesn't go out while it's thunderstorming he should be fine.
Their son is ten, his name is Jude Cook. Jude is one of the weirdly luckiest kids alive. He's survived an insane amount of attempts on his life, falls, kidnappings, and things he should otherwise not survive. His parents have stopped asking how. Loki helped give them a son, which is partly why Thor's pissed, so they've at this point accepted demigod baby is just gonna do what a demigod baby do. It's probably for the best. Spike's his older brother, and is training with Loki to be some sort of spirit of shapeshifting mischief. They both love causing mild trouble. Like Skull, Jude's got a fear of flying which makes things a little interesting. Skull's got his sons and his partner on a very very strict promise; if the shenanigans could cause an enemy of something power, walk away. Walk far away. Neptune exists. We don't want to get on the bad side of Neptune.
in a tangential version, Billy coparents with the two, and studies demigod ten year old, and deals with the Norse gods being in his business. At the very least nobody's been sucked into Ares' prison jar, so that's good.
*Bonus Poly of Billy Cranston, Matt Cook, and Eugene Skullovitch has all above children mentioned. They live in a large house, Eugene's a famous rockstar and restaurant chain owner, and they actually use every room in said house. In this version they met via Matt asking the only person he knew with experience in bdsm for some help with his newly realized kinks; Skull's payment was pizza nights and then Billy got dragged in because he was certain Matt was abusing Skull, but realized it was fine, actually. And fun.
