One of the most common responses from people disagreeing with my "Why is Scott always the toxic one when people make Flower Husbands toxic? Why isn't Jimmy ever the toxic one? Why is it never mutually toxic?" take is people saying "Because Scott's the only one who shows toxic behavior, obviously." which is just untrue?

In Third Life, Jimmy makes decisions behind Scott's back/without consulting Scott, publicly scolds Scott, talks over Scott, and disregards Scott's feelings on a number of occasions. And while this isn't a character flaw of Jimmy's per say as much as it's a result of Scott's own personality, Scott usually eventually gives into whatever Jimmy wants when they argue.

This isn't me saying Jimmy's toxic in canon, because he's not. I love Jimmy, I don't think he's ever been "toxic" toward anyone. Most of the conflicts between Scott and Jimmy come down to differences in their personalities and goals, not one of them being toxic or manipulative. The majority of their time together was also very happy, despite the occasional issues and arguments.

But I absolutely am saying that it rubs me the wrong way when people take the stance that Scott is "obviously" toxic while Jimmy supposedly has zero things that could ever be interpreted as toxic. Jimmy was not a perfect partner and it's confusing to me when people read so deeply into everything Scott does but seem to think it's somehow impossible to do the same with Jimmy because he's presumably just too nice and innocent, when it's actually quite easy to see unhealthy traits in Jimmy as well.
