How can people look at Hamas and think they are good?

How can they see how Hamas violently raped, murdered, and took hostage Israeli civilians on October 7th and support that?

How can anyone read how Hamas continued sexually assaulting, starving, and torturing those hostages and not say anything?

How can anyone hear how they just murdered 6 hostages 3 days ago so they'd be dead instead of rescued and not hate Hamas and what they've done?

How can anyone know how many ceasefires Hamas has broken, how they've launched rockets from hospitals, how they've prevented aid from getting to their own civilians and still see them as having done no wrong?

This is heartbreaking. When you need to coin a new word for the evil Hamas rejoiced in. Torturing, mutilating, and killing infants and children in front of parents; torturing, mutilating, and killing parents in front of children. Burning families alive.

There is no justification for this.

This was evil, plain and simple. Everyone who supports Hamas also supports this. Hamas will die -- as an idea and as a group. It's inevitable. When the name is spit on or forgotten in history books, and cowards round the globe hastily distance themselves from what they so fanatically supported not so long ago -- when all that happens, Israel will still be there.

But in the meantime, if you can look at crimes like this and still support Hamas, still insist Israel has no right to exist, still insist Israel doesn't have the right to win a war she didn't start -- May God have mercy on you. (Hamas won't.)

Since the outlets didn’t think this merited an update to their original pieces, whoever reads those stories will still gets the false impression that Hamas treats its hostages humanely.

Other media outlets that covered Schem’s hostage video made the right decision to report on her interviews with Israeli channels.

But some outlets, while detailing her harrowing account, either distorted what she had said about her fear of being raped, or omitted it altogether.

AP reported that Schem said she was afraid that her captor “might try to harm her,” when she actually used the word “rape:”

The New York Times did not mention her saying it at all, but it should have highlighted it, especially after the publication of the newspaper’s investigative piece regarding Hamas’ sexual violence during its October 7 massacre in southern Israel.

In her interviews, Schem made several points that deserved to be mentioned — from her injury, to her starvation and constant fear in captivity.

But in light of recent criticism over the blindness to Hamas’ sexual violence, her comments about fear of rape deserved special attention — as they indeed received from Reuters.

People need to understand you can be against both the Israeli gov's horrific bombing of Gaza *and* Hamas' murders and rapes on that day.
