The candle by your bedside is close to running out when Alhaitham appears through the door. Eyes drooping and a yawn slipping out, the bed dips under his weight as he joins your side. You smile softly as he snuggles in, resting his forehead on your shoulder, his eyes fluttering shut instantly.

"Long day?" You whisper, raising a hand to brush through his hair. You receive a sleepy hum for a response as you pull the blanket over him. "Rest well then."

You can feel his breathing slow as sleep comes over him. It's rather endearing, watching him melt in your embrace, relax to your warmth. Oh, you loved him dearly. And you had no qualms to saying it out loud.

"I love you," you say, a gentle whisper as you lay a soft kiss against his forehead. You would repeat those words for him over and over again until the whole world knew. You would let those words echo through your shared house, letting its warmth fan the fire of the hearth, allowing your abode flourish in the warmth of a home.

And you were sure he heard you, as you felt his hand brush against yours, his index finger curling around yours, wrapping your finger in a gentle, yet firm, hold.

The sky remained hidden behind large, fluffy grey clouds, indicating the rain that would soon fall on Sumeru City. It made sense then of the people rushing back into the shelter of their homes before they get caught in the upcoming downpour.

You simply smiled at the idea of a cozy evening. You paused in your tracks, however, as you caught the whiff of flowers. Turning around, you catch glimpse a flower vender, packing up their stall as the other merchants did.

You returned home, grinning brightly despite the light scoldings of the elderly flower vender who was rushing to return home.

"I'm home!" You chirp in a sing-song. And ah, the sight of your beloved welcoming you back with a warm smile.

You thrust the flowers into Alhaitham's hand, feeling absolutely gleeful at the surprise flashing across his face. His widened eyes, momentary gaping melting into a smile as he recognizes the bouquet of flowers to be the same as the first gift you had given him at the start of your love story.

"I have something for you too," he says in a soft whisper before disappearing into your shared bedroom before returning with another bouquet of flowers in hand. Ah, seems he must have encountered the flower vendor on his way home as well.

His gaze remains on you as you laugh at the coincidence, his eyes honeyed with endearment and softened with amusement.

Oh and his silent laugh as you jumped into his arms, hugging him tight.

"I love you."

You were sure you found your heaven on earth.

You love your off days. Not only did you get to sleep peacefully until the sunlight seeping in through the curtains slowly awake you, but you get to enjoy the sight of your sleepy beloved. The whispered 'good morning's as you take each other in an embrace, snuggling until late in the morning, that joy was unparalleled.

Preparing meals together, snuggling on the couch as one napped and the other read, random chit-chat about some curious thing that happened at work throughout the week; these were all simple moments, but things you yearned for when you had to be apart because of work.

You enjoy watching the sunset with Alhaitham, sitting down on the ground, surrounded by the smell of the grass and dirt. Waiting until the moon rose high as you listened to him narrate bits of poetry in languages you could only dream of learning.

As you worked around in the kitchen with him, preparing dinner, you smiled contentedly.

"I love you," you mummer.

A soft kiss lands atop your head as Alhaitham continues to work around you, leaving you grinning brighter than ever.

"I love you lots," you say amidst your soft chuckles.

"I love you too," Alhaitham smiles back. "More than words could ever express."

"Really?" You cock an eyebrow playfully, not bothering to hide how his words made you soar over the moon.

"Really," he says, not minding your playfulness. "I could use all the words I know, speak all the languages I can, and it still wouldn't suffice to express what you make me feel, how happy you make me."

Alhaitham turns towards you, devoting his utmost attention to you. "Your laugh, your smile, your voice, your eyes, they will always be more beautiful than any language, any poetry that the world has to offer. You are the language I love most, and the only one I want to remain fluent in until my time runs out."

a/n : I previously wrote this drabble (a quiet love) for alhaitham and enjoyed writing it a lot, so I wanted to write more for him (I'm definitely not biased.... okay maybe a tiny bit hehe—); but yeah, I really like the idea of alhaitham following the 'actions speaks louder than words' if it wasn't already obvious

there are so many more ways for characters to care for eachother outside of romance. there are so many interesting character arcs and stories to explore in these shows that are NOT ROMANCE CENTERED. please. just try at least for a few minutes. do something with your favorite show without any romantic shipping. try to analyze the story arcs, the themes, hell, even relationships without using the words "yaoi/yuri" just once. some of you people act like it'd kill you. once again i say this as an aro who is so so incredibly sappy for fictional romance of all kinds, even i have my limits.

and don't think i don't notice how common y'all only give aspec headcanons to the characters you really don't care about, or only give them to either the "cold unfeeling" or straight up infantilized characters. in 2025 no less?? i cant even imagine how y'all treat any canon aro characters.

Tag game: tag nine people you’d like to know better.

Last song: At the moment, I have "Losing Your Memory" by Alan Star stuck in my head, which I suppose makes it my current song, not my last song. Hm. I get songs stuck in my head very easily, but the last one I had there for a significant amount of time was a mashup of different language versions of "Les Rois du Monde" for about a week. "Lehetsz Király", the Magyar version, is probably my favorite of them. It's worth a listen.

Currently watching: Normally, the answer would be "random mostly terrible old movies/shows" or "nothing much", but I currently have a hyperfixation on the musical Roméo et Juliette and have been watching it in multiple languages. (Thus, the song).

Three ships: This is hard. Maybe as a result of being on the ace and aro spectrums, I'm more likely to care about which characters are interacting than whether it's romantic or platonic. Here goes:

Kedivere/Bedikay. It can be romantic, platonic, or queerplatonic, but whichever way, I'm here for it. I probably spend too much time thinking about how in Cullwch and Olwen, when Cai gets mad at Arthur and marches out, Bedwyr stays behind, keeps acting like nothing's happened, and isn't the one to avenge Cai's death. The feeling of betrayal on both sides has a lot of unexplored potential. And the version where Bedivere dies and Kay fights to bring his body back safely while mortally wounded himself... And the version where Bedivere survives Camlann and Kay isn't said to fight in it, so they might be left together after their world has fallen apart...

Platonically or queerplatonically, Galahad and the Grail Heroine. I really like the tragic Grail Quest friendships, but I like theirs most, maybe because there's something weird and otherworldly about them both. I like it when characters are strange and endearing and doomed by the narrative.

Ever since reading John Matthews' retelling, which I read before the original, I've had a soft spot for Caradoc and Guinier. The Story of Caradoc is very disturbing, and I have some major qualms with Caradoc over a detail Matthews cut out, but all the same, there's a reason these two have the best track record with magical fidelity tests. Each of them would go to the ends of the earth for the other, and together, they're stronger than any curse.

Favorite Color: Blue, particularly royal blue and some teals.

Currently consuming: Black licorice with chocolate.

First ship: This is a hard one, since through elementary and most of middle school, I tended to go along with whatever I thought the author's intentions were and was more likely to unship something. The first non-endgame ship I got invested in was Sonya/Nikolai in War and Peace. I didn't like Nikolai, but Sonya did, and she was my favorite character, so I wanted her to be happy. The first non-canon couple I thought was meant to be together was also in War and Peace: Marya Bolkonskaya and Julie Karagina. My eighth grade self did not think their letters could be interpreted platonically. I still don't.

Last movie: If the musical doesn't count, the last movie I watched was Quest for Camelot, which was awful. Though not Robot Monster-level bad, Robot Monster has an elegance to its simplicity which Quest for Camelot lacks.

Currently working on: Various fics, most of them Arthuriana or CotRK-related (I am woefully behind on the Badfic Bingo), and (theoretically) an epic-style poem, though I haven't gotten much of it written for quite a while now.

Most people would describe your life as normal. You live in a small apartment in the middle of a bustling city. It's a city bursting with life and opportunities, things you’ve grown accustomed to. It's been a few years since moving here with your former college roommate, turned best friend. Life pulled the both of you to the city to pursue your careers, living comfortably since. So, when someone comes knocking at your door with wide, panicked eyes, you feel the urge to just move on with your day. That is, of course, not possible when they drop the fact that your roommate is dead, followed by an invitation to get them back.

This IF is written in twine and will be posted on itch.io. It is currently a work in progress. Advice is appreciated due to this being my first attempt at something like this <3

This story will delve into grief, death, and dying, all while exploring everything the underworld has to offer. Face ghosts of everyone's pasts, get into trouble with Underworld Law and become closer along the way.

Play as a fully customizable character, choose your character's name, pronouns/gender, sexuality, appearance, college degree, and more!

Travel through the underworld, explore the vast layers the city of the dead has to offer and meet the people who reside there.

Determine how you traverse loss and all the things that come with it. Either ignore or come to terms with what might happen at the end of it all.

Build a relationship with 1 of 4 character options (or 1 of 2(?) poly options!), two gender selectable, and two set genders (non-binary spectrum). (Play as aro, gay, straight, bi, trans, etc. Platonic relationships will be just as important in this game!)

This game is for 17 and up. There will be NO sexual themes, but there will be heavy topics, explicit language, and graphic descriptions of death. More Content Warnings will be listed in the demo.

The Best Friend | Abel/Abella Robinson [he/him or she/her] - RO

Your best friend since freshman year of college, once random strangers sharing a dorm, now living together of your own free will. A is an elementary school teacher with a calm, gentle heart. They are a bit of a doormat but are kind despite the world being cruel. Being out of touch with humanity is supposed to be an asset for reapers, but Mortimer has always wanted to know everything there is to know about humanity. Can you even believe someone like them? Mort seems a little too honest, and a little too curious, but they're the only tour guide for the underworld that you know of.

Your Best Friend's Best Friend | Santiago/Santina "Santi" Vega [he/him or she/her] - RO

You know A has other friends, but what you don't know is why they hate you so much. Santi has never liked you, not four years ago, not today. They are sarcastic and confident. They will always take the opportunity to outshine you, it's hard to understand why someone like A would even tolerate being around them. Whether you like it or not, they're still A's other best friend, and are just as determined to get them back safe and sound... Even if it means having to do it with you.

The Guard | Kyo [he/they] - RO

A (begrudging) friend of Mort and one of many guards of the underworld. They're a mystery to you and even to their closest friend. Kyo doesn't speak much. They are blunt, easily annoyed, and strictly there to keep an eye on everyone. He prefers to follow the rules and stay under the radar, especially since he seems to have something to lose. They seem to only tag along to keep Mort out of trouble, but there has to be something more to their goals. Why else would they risk so much for people they don't know?

what draws you both to jalice/makes you so feral about them as a ship?

you should know we had an entire meeting in order to answer this ask. no this could NOT have been an email (unlike new moon) 🤭

Secretary G took notes. they are as follows (read the bolded parts for a tl;dr)

we kind of see it as though jalice got the traits that edbella weren’t allowed to have, either due to their status as protagonists or because smeyer's mormon background causes her to view these qualities as too sinful/negative for her wholesome Waiting Until Marriage main couple. (examples: alice's materialistic, "shallow," hyperfeminine qualities, her character flaws (especially her manipulativeness), and jasper's aura and history of fucked up violence closer to what you'd find in traditional vampire stories/horror/adult gothics/books not written by a mormon author)

in terms of how much screentime the non-main-love-triangle canon couples get, their relationship is kiiiinda given the next-most weight to edbella’s (examples: jasper's extreme overprotectiveness, the New Moon chapter 19 moment where alice prioritizes jasper and bella is like “yeah I get it, I would do the same.”) basically smeyer gives jalice's relationship a lot of the qualities she finds romantic/ideal, (and which are either similarly romantic to us or entertainingly toxic/a good source of drama), presumably because alice is like her 4th-favorite character after the main love triangle and she wants nice things for her

we both really love how, superficially, as presented in the books, jasper and alice seem to have this almost “courtly love” that smeyer has described as "spiritual." yet when you look closer, their relationship has so many darker undertones—the deep codependency bordering on obsessiveness (mutual, but especially the way it manifests on jasper's end—"I will kill this random teen girl who witnessed edward's jean valjean moment™ because any means are justifiable when the ends are Protecting Alice"), the dark sides of both of their powers, the idea that jasper is only a cullen and/or only a vegetarian for alice's sake, etc. hell, even the fact that they're the only Cullen couple who we know had (gasp) premarital sex 😏 (I mean we assume rosemmett did too, but alas, they don't have that hilarious "carlisle convinced jasper and alice to get married" quote from smeyer)

partially summarized: "jasper’s general desperate willingness to sell everyone to satan for one corn chip if it keeps alice safe (carlisle: I know this and I love you)"

we're forever smug that the movies gave us even more jalice screentime (especially remarkable in such a protagonist-centric universe), including jasper being in the same grade as alice/bella/edward, and the extra jalice kisses in Eclipse and BD 🥺

what we wrote down as the “who’s protecting whom" phenomenon, as coined by G in this old ask. (shannon: "jasper is the toddler you've given the PS2 controller that's not plugged in")

we also like the characters individually. jasper is for the girlies with competency kinks—a stoic caretaker who speaks little and mostly expresses himself via acts of service. we also both love the way in which he needs protection from his own uncontrolled violence (slipping up and killing humans, suffering the pain and fear he inflicts, etc.) he is, in the words of our beloved @liceparade, the "line cook trauma boyfriend"

and alice, unlike bella, genuinely loves being spoiled and bossing people around. she's brat-coded, she's confident and secure in who she is, her god complex ("I'm close enough [to omniscient]") causes fascinating conflict, bella eats drywall from sheer horniness at her merest movement, she dresses like a slut in the Mormon YA Novels and yet somehow escapes authorial condemnation, she has a sickass gothic heroine backstory, she's "annoying," aro started a whole war over her (eat shit helen of troy 🖕), she spaces out in public and has to be led around by jasper, she's one of the most powerful vampires in the world, she's in high school getting a C+ on her precalc test ��🏻

it's appealing that smeyer frequently puts alice in the center of the series' various conflicts (james' singer and "one that got away," the accidental cause of all the drama at the end of new moon, one of aro's secret True motives for starting the conflict in BD.) this is mostly as a consequence of smeyer using alice as a plot device and/or deus ex machina, but it is in fact interesting

is alice jasper's morality chain? we love pondering this question via fic, meta, etc (especially because...alice ain't exactly a model of ethical behavior herself)

together, the two of them exhibit lots of classic tropes. they're grumpy x sunshine, chatty x silent, opposites attract, etc. to say nothing of that height difference 🥵

we love the yin/yang symbolism of a character with a horrific past paired with a character with NO memory of her past, who is focused on the future and all about potential. not to invoke an ancient phrase but POETIC CINEMA

the next note just says “POTENTIAL in general.” I assume we meant how all of the above stuff creates potential for interesting stories, conflicts, metas, art, fic, etc

G has brought this up in the past, but we love the irony of jasper, a character whose chief desire is to be left in peace, being soul-alteringly in love with the one character who will always be a giant glaring target through no fault of her own. hilarious

Canonically aroace character highlight: Thomas Saggs from Toontown Corporate Clash

When it’s time to name a list of aromantic characters, I feel like most people always mention the same ones and miss out on many aro characters that exist out there. Hell, I feel like most people ignore even some of the best ones, like Sakuko and Takahashi from Koisenu Futari or Tomoko from Konya Sukiyaki Dayo, in order to favor characters that are more “mainstream”.

There are plenty of aro characters that I’d like to discover as well. Today, I’d like to highlight a less known canonically aro character that is ACTUALLY written to be aro IN the story. They are aroace, but I will focus more on their aromanticism here:

Toontown is a MMORPG, I think it needs no introductions. I am a Corporate Clash player specifically, I was very interested by all the different characters this version of the game offered. But I’m not here to talk about the lore now, I’m just here to talk about one particular character: Thomas Saggs, the C.O.O.

All the lore context you need to know is that toons fight corporative machines called “cogs” or “suits”, and the boss of these cogs is called The Chairman, or Robert.

Thomas (he/they) is a quiet and introverted cog, the only cog that you do not fight in the game at all. When you are able to meet up with the character, all you do is stand there for 20 minutes while you listen to them talk about work, family or anecdotes about coworkers. Thomas doesn’t talk a lot in your first meetings, but opens up more each year (it’s an event that happens every April 1st, they’re a recurring character). Thomas is the C.O.O. of the company, due to the fact that he is The Chairman’s brother, they kind of started the company together. Thomas was originally going to inherit their parents’ company, but that was not the kind of life he wanted to live, so he decided to follow his brother instead (who cut off his parents due to mistreatment).

Thomas doesn’t like being the center of attention, they don’t really care much about businesses, Thomas just wants a calm life, with a nice calm job, next to his brother, who they really really care about. They also like taking care of their plants, he is very attached to them.

Thomas states from time to time that they have never been in a romantic relationship, they do not wish to be in one and is really confused with how everyone acts when it comes to romance. For example, he doesn't get why people care about romance gossip, because he doesn't judge people on who they like. But again, he states that they don't really know much about romance anyway.

Thomas talks about this topic so many times that it was definitely not meant to be a one time comment. No, the great thing about Thomas is that their aromanticism is actually and genuinely a HUGE part of their character. Being aspec is not just a fun fact you can read about in the wiki or in a random tweet, Thomas IS intended to be written as aspec and their aroace identity impacts their WHOLE life. Even when they're not talking about being aroace, being aroace is STILL something that is a part of him.

Thomas was only truly confirmed to be aroace a few months ago, but the character has ALWAYS been aroace. You know what's more important than just saying a character is aspec? Actually WRITE them as aspec! Even before being 100% confirmed, Thomas was already a way better aroace character than many others who were just 'confirmed' outside of the story

Going back to the game, a big conflict in Thomas's life is his sister in law, Crystaline. Thomas is very kind and finds the positive side in everyone... except Crystaline. And it's not because he hates her for no reason, she's stated again and again to be a pretty selfish terrible person that will probably become a villain later on in the game. But she is married to his brother, and ever since they have been married, his brother spends way less time with them, he talks to them less, etc and this is VERY difficult for Thomas

The topic of being alone vs being isolated is explored so wonderfully with this character. Thomas really DOES like being alone, they find it peaceful and nice. Thomas usually spends their days alone with their plants. They adore talking to his plants and taking care of them, that's honestly all he really needs in his life. It's so awesome to see a non-partering aro character that is genuinely happy being alone, and I even headcanon them as aplatonic too, given the fact that even if he spends time with other cogs from time to time, they dont really have any deep bonds with anyone aside from his family

Which, speaking of, the topic of being isolated BECAUSE of amatonormativity is also so well written. Yes, Thomas likes being alone, but they do NOT like being abandoned by the world, ESPECIALLY by his brother and it's BECAUSE they are aromantic and everyone is 'supposed' to value their romantic relationships more. This really hurts them!

Thomas is all around a very endearing character, even if he works for the bad guys they are constantly portrayed as kind and nice, again literally the only cog that NEVER fights you. Thomas is beloved by the players and constantly portrayed as sympathetic in the story. Their aromanticism and asexuality is never demonized, and if you're worrying about 'ok but they are a robot', ALL the other robots in this game ARE allo (well hopefully not all of them) and they live in an amatonormative society. They are NOT aspec because they are a robot, this trope does NOT apply in this world. PLUS, the game let's you, the player, wear aro and ace outfits, like bows and capes with the aro or ace flags. The game CLEARLY cares about portraying a good aspec character and story cause it CARES about aspec people

Thomas is a character that is VERY very important to me and I am really attached to them. The day he was confirmed to be 100% canonically aroace was the best day of 2024 for me, not even kidding. I even made an unscripted video about this just cause of how happy I was

And I was really hoping that after these news more people would find out about the character! You don't need to care about toontown or play 1000 hours of the game to simply know and appreciate this character, I just wanted people to know and talk about them! But aside from toontown fans I have seen NO ONE care about this. It has been SILENT everywhere else.

Thailand & Taiwan have uncensored allo queer movies and tv series coming out the ears!! With plenty of genderqueer rep in recent years, too. Collectively, there's like 40 such tv series released per year as far as Thailand & Taiwan tv goes.

And so far, only "Koisenu Futari" out of Japan has centered an aro story, that I know of, even still.

I feel like there's definitely a set of folks who only interact with mainstream, squeaky-clean style media and wonder where the queer folks are. like babe, how about you look for queer media and share it? how else is it gonna mainstream with your netflix and disney and corporate shit censorship types unless you interact with and normalize talking about and celebrating queer media?
