Is it just me or like… Narcissus didn’t do anything wrong? He’s a prideful asshole but he never hurt anyone, when he was hugged by Echo he was rightfully scared and disgusted bc he doesn’t know this woman and she low key tricked him into thinking he’s called out to his hunting partners, when he told Ameinias to fuck off he was unnecessarily cruel about it but he has every right to do so, besides who’s to say that Ameinias wasn’t being a creep to him to the point that Narcissus hoped that sending a sword would force him to take a hint? it’s not his fault that Ameinias decided to curse him then kill himself in front of his doorstep.

Sure ig he could be less “rude” when rejecting ppl but it’s so weird reading about him and seeing how him rejecting countless suitors was portrayed as a bad thing, even tho he’s fully in his right to do so. Kinda ironic seeing a male character’s consent being disregarded as much as female characters.

so i ripped the sprites of hades 2 because i'm a Freak and i found what i believe to be narcissus's portrait and i'm wondering why it isn't used in game considering other wip portraits are was it for the "haha the guy obsessed with his looks has the default portrait right now" bit??? or did they just not want to implement it rn if anyone wants to see it it's below

You guys notice how Melinoe and Hypnos might be playing out a much lower stakes version what happened between Narcissus and Echo? It's less about a doomed unrequited love, and more about projecting a false image onto a person that prevents you from ever connecting with them.

In the story, Narcissus is lost and can't see Echo, but Echo sees him and falls in love with him. And instead of listening to what Narcissus actually said, Echo projected onto him what she wanted to hear, a love confession. The misunderstanding dooms Echo to heartbreak and Narcissus to his death.

Once Hypnos wakes up, or they somehow meet in a dream, Melinoe will realize she kind of built a version of Hypnos in her head that doesn't exist. But instead of letting things go south, she'd recognize that it wasn't fair to Hypnos or herself to assume this romanticized version of him was the real him and she'd get to know the real Hypnos, this goofy muppet of a god.

Maybe that could be the resolution to Echo and Narcissus' story too. Right now they're both the inverse of each other's curse. Echo can only live as the reflection of other people's thoughts and voices. Even when you try to help her speak you're still putting words in her mouth and projecting what YOU think she wants to say her own identity is more a construction of your assumptions. Meanwhile, Narcissus' own curse has him project his self-obsession onto us where we must be as into him as he is with himself now and is largely disconnected from others because of it.

To break their curses means their own sense of selves need to finally be righted, and they'd take in each other as who they are, rather than their own idea that doomed them.

omfg i just went through hades 2 wiki pages for some drawing references and i happened to run into an artwork for NARCISSUS??? it's still a rough sketch and i have no way to know if it's real or not but omg???? is there any way to confirm??? i'm not gonna post the art here but it's literally on his character wiki page and he looks absolutely gorgeous. my man

I just realized that all those shades in Narcissus' chamber in Oceanus really are there to ogle at him. They're all either behind him or pointed in his direction. They're just there watching him watch himself, and they're probably the ones who resupply his mountain of gifts.

Wouldn't it be wild if all the shades around him were admirers in life, like they knew of him, his curse, and subsequent death? Is this his stan community?
