maybe i'm overthinking this, but Yuno's Tear Drop line

"Don't weigh me measure me against your morality"

makes me think of how pregant women have to consistently check their weight/measure their stomach size by doctors sometimes, or themselves

and looking at it from this lens makes me think of her talking to the client instead of just the auidence.

what do you think?

Well, before we get into the rabbit hole this has caused me to go down for several hours I do hafta tap the sign again,

Content Warning: Filicide, murder (self-explanatory), child death (self-explanatory), an in depth run down of pregnancy, it's many side effects, and the procedures done over the course of carrying a child to term.

Heads up I was fine with saying it was pregnancy entrapment and moving forward with my day. Because I could not give one less of a damn about this child in theory or in the reality of the narrative either. However, I try my best to report facts-

It is a fact that children have an overwhelming place not only in Yuno's narrative but in the narrative overall.

There are no prisoners who aren't in some aspect related to children. Be it wanting to have them their selves like with Mahiru, Kazui and Yuno. Being a child themselves like Amane, negatively impacting the life of a child or ending it like Haruka, Futa, Shidou, and Kotoko. Or just being related to one and focused on setting a good example for them like with Mikoto, Yuno, and Shidou when it comes to Amane (even though this is mostly projection on his part).

Very few prisoners are beating the we're bad with kids allegations.

The best we got is Mikoto who to his own admission through song lyrics and interrogation answers rarely visits home and doesn't call that much. So, his relationship with his sister now is estranged at best or nonexistent/incredibly infantilizing at worse because he may think of her more like his daughter than a sibling.

Something that older siblings easily fall into regardless of how far apart in age they are.

So, I feel it's important for me to make this clear. I mostly want to see Yuno kill a man twice her size- Because I believe in her. She can do it! Kill a client girl, please? Possibly the two responsible for this messy predicament we're about to go into in such egregious detail it's sidetracked my other work. I have no stake in what happened to this child. This child is a side story to me.

However, I do care about honestly laying out the facts for people who seek to know more about them. As well as doing due diligence whenever someone goes out of their way to communicate a question to me. That is my biggest priority first and foremost. Regardless of whether something aligns with my interests or not I would like to motivate people to seek out more knowledge.

It's hard to look into something all on one's own collaboration is a necessary and enjoyable way to learn something new at times. So, really from the start there's no such thing as overthinking. If you're engaging with the story in front of you in a way that inspires you to learn more and form your own opinions that's never a bad thing in my opinion.

So, anon you're asking me what I think about the fact that the line,

Can bring about imagery of prenatal care practices. Of weighing the mother and measuring their stomach. In this case taking Fundal Height Measurements.

What is fundal height? (Cleveland Clinic)

Fundal height is the distance between your pubic bone and the top of your uterus during pregnancy. Measuring fundal height helps healthcare providers assess if the fetus is developing correctly. It also can help determine gestational age (term to describe how far along the pregnancy is) and the fetus's position in your uterus. It's measured in centimeters with measuring tape. After about 20 weeks of pregnancy, your fundal height in centimeters should be close to the fetus's gestational age. For example, if you are 24 weeks pregnant, your fundal height should be around 24 centimeters.

You're also stating this is why you believe Yuno is referring to her client when she says this and not the audience or Es. This is the beginning of a good train of thought that's mostly being derailed by the overall lack of literacy around pregnancy. People around the world sometimes don't find out anything in regards to pregnancy until after they become pregnant.

Some schools don't even teach health classes in depth or at all. So, the likely hood of her client checking her on this isn't that high in my opinion. That doesn't mean that they couldn't have done this but these are usually things done during prenatal checkups throughout a persons pregnancy. Mostly in order to check if the baby is coming along healthily or if anything has gone wrong.

Which brings is to issue one.

Why would Yuno's songs have lyrics that allude to prenatal care as though she was going to it if the pregnancy was just an accident and she,

"I messed up. I found out."

Well would anyone happen to know what's murder and way too late to be considered an abortion?

Filicide

Yeah that's why that content warning was there. Yuno wouldn't be the first prisoner in Milgram to kill a kid. I mean did anyone seriously believe that- This murder was smaller than the others?

That they could just decide,

That just because the victim may have been a newborn infant they had less agency? There life didn't matter as much?

But it is true that a parents influence on adolescents is strong, isn't it? Compared to adults, you are a lot more dependent on your parents.

If their parents just decide that they can't or won't-

Is that alright? I mean it's not like they're even a person yet. A baby can't comprehend what they're being robbed of.

The difference between an infant and fetus. A lot of people would say it's a big one. Even so there a re many cases of filicide. More than most like to admit.

Oh, come on Gunsli- Are we so hard up for content in these trying times that we're falling back on theories from the very beginning of the series. Are you saying that Yuno threw a kid over a balcony.

I mean other than the fact she blatantly admitted the prisoner most like her is Kazui. All without ever saying he wasn't like her in some other aspects outside of the reasons they lie.

It would not be difficult to kill one of the squishiest things in existence. This is why there are very specific ways one is meant to hold a newborn baby. Dropping one at all is a serious issue by itself.

Plus, she's paired with the guy known to have literally killed a child himself. Then as I've brought up numerous times before... Her second song as is called Tear Drop. Tear as in to rip something up or out and drop as in to discard.

Something that here could imply the baby was torn out of her which is usually what happens during pregnancy anyway especially if she had to get a C-section. Yet it's also common during natural births for mothers to feel like the baby is tearing them apart from the inside as they're in labor/giving birth. Something commonly displayed across media.

So the name of her second song already implies to an extent that she went into labor at a point without even touching on the line that highlighted that alludes directly to prenatal care.

Labor is a series of continuous, progressive contractions of the uterus that help the cervix dilate and efface (thin out). This lets the fetus move through the birth canal. Or the most likely option is the tingle being referred to is the baby kicking. Also knowns as-

Fetal Movement

Fetal movements felt by pregnant women are a sign that the fetus is growing in size and strength. The pregnant woman is usually the first to feel these movements, which can later be perceived by others. Women are often taught by their healthcare provider to monitor or be aware of the movements of the fetus. This can be a general awareness of fetal movements, or the women can be taught to count the number of kicks they feel in a set amount of time. Reduced fetal movement can be worrisome for both the mother and the attending healthcare provider. She's cutting it pretty close here and that's at the very beginning of Umbilical. She continues to carry the pregnancy forward throughout that song. Even after it's popped we're actually shown it's gotten bigger.

The balloon looks to be smaller before it's popped as well.

Shown by how even when Yuno is not applying much pressure to it the smaller ones inside still do not have as much space to move around in as the balloon we see in the balloon shown after this popping scene.

Once again implying that this pregnancy is getting closer and closer to term as the song continues. Not only does this information display that. It also showcases that Yuno-

For all of the audience talking saying she was just naïve and didn't know what she was doing and just made a mistake- In fact recognized she was pregnant and did things to make sure that pregnancy was viable and was probably looking forward to having a kid for a small bit.

Like she said in Tear Drop.

"“Poor naive little girl”? So off the mark,what’s it to you? It’s just absurd." - "Feeling magnanimous? INNOCENT? I’m so not that."

In Umbilical the audience is even shown her looking into buying baby toys reminiscent to Haruka's,

One decently different from the one she receives in Tear Drop latter.

This is something implied from the beginning of the series. It is implied not only through the scene in Umbilical combined with this statement,

Which proves the one within Umbilical is more than likely not the same one in Tear Drop. Considering that the one seen in her second mv is expressly being gifted to her. She did not buy it for herself. Meanwhile the one in Umbilical is one she went out and looked at herself with seemingly no one else present.

Since none of her clients have really been outside or in stores with her often. At least not so openly in empty spaces like that. Yuno even states that she tends to go shopping with friends.

Yuno: Going out shopping with my friends, I guess? Also I’m part of the theatre club, so occasionally practice.

Baby plush toys can get really up there in price too. Especially if they're good quality made to last for a while again similar to Haruka's. It's not unheard of for new mothers to splurge on their children's first toy.

Beyond that, the store Yuno is currently in is set up like every store for new mothers that sells goods for infants. Even down to the layout.

Bright Colors vs. Muted Colors - How it affects your little one

How to present color to a newborn and children up to 3 years? A baby that is only a few days old prefers contrasting patterns. Their eyes aren't fully developed yet in the first days, even months. Different shades of one color are preferred not to overstimulate the newborn visually. Use black, white, and grey color in different patterns and shapes to offer a strong, contrasting visual experience and to offer the best form of visual stimulation without overstimulating them. These colors stand out in their field of vision.

From 3 to 6 months, babies prefer primary colors, and at 7 months, their vision is developed very well, and you can introduce most colors and shades of it. But GRADUALLY. Sorry babies eyes are still in the development stage. Please introduce high contrasting colors first. So they can get acclimated to colors. Nothing too big those peepers are still sensitive. You wouldn't want to overstimulate the baby. Yuno: Aww what a cute rabbit. (Fucking yellow piece of shit.)

This may be why the bunny we see her have in Umbilical is a plain beige. Because at the time this was the trend when it came to designing baby rooms and still is. It was particularly a trend on the website Yuno is implied to be using,

Instagram. So it wouldn't be surprising for her to follow these sort of trends when it comes to aesthetics.

Outside of all that though. Milgram and Yuno herself made it clear from the beginning that the pregnancy was something she was prolonging.

Through showing her blowing up the balloon herself (the balloons also match the coloring on the toy rabbit seen in Umbilical) throughout her first trial song.

Yuno wanting to have kids regardless of her personal motivations as to why- Would still track with the man she went on record saying was like her the most out of the prisoners without a doubt. Giving the audience more of an insight into why Yuno the most observant of the cast who tells the audience that her habit is people watching would be so certain of this.

Kazui: We never really thought about having kids in my family. So because of that, it’s a bit dazzling having you here. I am still worried about you though, despite everything. If things were different, it wouldn’t be that weird for me to have my own kid about your age.

Amane: ……not having children is just a different way one can choose to live. Bringing new life into the world is something to be respected, but it isn’t a guarantee or measure of happiness. If this is the choice you made based on your own environment and responsibilities, then you can feel pride in your choice.

Kazui: Ah, I guess so. I mean, hypothetically, even if I did want kids. Children can easily be influenced by the way their parents raise them. I understand that first-hand. And I know I can’t take on that responsibility. Yeah. Well, if there’s anything this old man can say to the next generation. I think you should do what you like. Do things the way you want to. Whether you’re a child or not, it doesn’t matter. Don’t lie to your own true feelings.

Amane: Who do you think you’re lecturing…… I don’t need you to tell me that. I’m faithful to my own feelings. I am, to mine.

23/09/02 (Yuno’s Birthday)

Kazui: I heard you’ve been helping Shidou-kun out. ……er, sorry if this comes across as rude, but it’s kind of unexpected. It always seemed like you didn’t care that much about other people.

Yuno: Hmm? What’s with that all of a sudden. I mean, you’re right, I don’t care much. But if there’s someone dying in front of you anyone would do what they could to help, right? And anyway, aren’t you the same? You usually don’t care much either, right?

Kazui: ……I wonder. This old man isn’t as much of a thinker as you are. I mean, until now I’ve been in an environment where it’s all about having physical strength. So I’ve never really thought about stuff like that.

Yuno: Haha, we’re the same in that we’re both liars too. I guess the difference is the reasons we lie. You care about yourself, so lie to protect yourself. I don’t care about anyone at all, including myself.

Kazui has not hidden (or hasn't done a good job of hiding) the fact that he has wanted or is interested in having children himself since the series started. Plus the audience has been shown time and time again Yuno's no pushover when it comes to her observations and she doesn't say things when she knows it would be pointless to.

Kazui: Ahh, this old man’s gonna go and smoke in the corner a bit. I checked with the guard, and apparently we can use our free time however we want. Man, I’m glad this place is so relaxed.

Shidou: ……! Are��… we allowed to smoke……?

Kazui: Huh…… Shidou-kun, was it? You smoke too? That’s kinda unexpected.

Shidou: Ah, yes. ……I only started fairly recently though. I’ll go with you…… to smoke.

Futa: Ahh, those old men really stink of tobacco. Are they idiots or something? They should know better at that age…… If they really can’t cope without relying on something like that then I worry about their sanity.

Yuno: ……it doesn’t really matter does it? They’re making sure they’re staying far away from the people who don’t smoke. Personally I quite like the smell anyway.

Futa: Huh!? What are you talking about? It means you’re more likely to get sick, it costs money, it’s a nuisance for everyone around you, what’s even the point. Our tax money is being wasted going towards paying for that, you know? If you were really smart, you’d know not to smoke at all!

Yuno: I see~

She knows when to let a topic die as one could put it.

Now let's get back into the facts of childbirth.

The last sign of Labor

Rupture of the amniotic sac (bag of water): If you experience amniotic fluid gushing or leaking from your vagina, go to the hospital immediately and contact your health care provider. Most women go into labor within hours of the amniotic sac breaking. If labor does not begin soon after rupturing your amniotic sac, you will be given medications to induce your labor. This step is often taken to prevent infection and other delivery complications.

Something that could be related back to the state we see Yuno in during the artistic depiction of her crime in Undercover. Yes, I know... But Gunsli by that logic wouldn't it mean the only crime to occur in Yuno's story would be filicide?

Not exactly.

This is why I said artistic depiction of her crime. What we get in Undercover is not the most realistic depiction we have of any of the prisoners crimes. That would be the third anniversary art of them all after their crime.

To further prove this isn't the most realistic depiction of their crime and could instead be the inciting incidents. In the art for Mikoto who we've seen commit murder with a bat there's no bat in sight. Then for Amane who we saw in Purge March use her umbrella as a weapon he anniversary art has her in the attire from magic. Implying in Amane and Mikoto's cases there were more than one murders.

Especially since some prisoners such as Kotoko and Futa are dressed exclusively as they were dressed when they committed their crimes. Now sure Kotoko wears that outfit whenever she's doing crime probably so this doesn't mean her or Futa didn't kill more than one person. It just means they're a bit more economical about they are not changing their clothes for this or may just own multiple of those outfits.

However, the fact that Amane, Mikoto, and Yuno are all dressed in ways that are specifically contradictory to the states we are shown them comiting the crime in within their videos... Should raise some eyebrows. Especially since Mu's art makes it abundantly clear these are after the crimes. Because it lines up directly with what we have been given in her mvs even down to the missing shoe.

Also it's clear the undercover one is an artistic rendition of the events because they're already in their uniforms during those which they were definitely not wearing. Meaning this may not only be an artistic rendition but foreshadowing of what the prisoners very well could do in Milgram.

I mean Kotoko already kicked a few people around. So it wouldn't surprise me at this point. Plus like Jackalope said-

"There's a possibility that these prisoners are all monsters, who could eat us up, and that's exactly why-"

That's exactly why, determining that is my duty as the prison guard- Is what you'll say.

What I'm getting at is that Undercover showcases the triggers for the prisoners misdeeds and what they may very will still be capable of even now. Despite the predicament Milgram has put them in. Two things can be true at once the instances in Undercover can alluded to their crimes prior to Milgram while still foreshadowing what they can do in Milgram.

Yet, Undercover doesn't show all of their misdeeds. If we think of Undercover in as displaying all prisoners' and Es' starting points along with their possible end points based on our choices. I.E the attacks on Es being what occurs if they're left unrestrained or provoked too much.

Than that would allude to several things being true for Yuno.

That she in fact did have an abortion and that's what triggered her behavior in Umbilical. It's just that abortion happened prior to that. Due to the contractual nature of her situation that is alluded to during her part of Undercover.

Hell even these lyrics by themselves imply that she didn't want to get a abortion.

"“UNDER” My cord’s being pulled but nothing’s ever enough Contractual desires, oh what to do, FUTURE."

Stating that her cord's being pulled by something outside of her volition and asking ,what to do about these contractual desires. The same desires alluded to at the beginning and throughout Tear Drop-

"The wanted wanting the wanter. The overlap, isn’t that some sort of perfection?" - "Desire, bestow, and desire again."

This again isn't anything new I've said this before.

Yes, I know that's a picture of Kotoko I need to make it clear that's not the first picture in that post. It's not even the last and yes the post is about Yuno. That image is just misleading.

I've discussed this many times at this point. I'll probably end up discussing it again too.

Because the posts I make on Yuno inevitably get lost to fucking time, banished from the tag entirely, and then even when I look for them on my end knowing full and well how they're tagged I can't find them either. Prime example I know I linked this stuff again in an ask specifically from Astarthatburnsbrightly. I've gone into my own blogs archive then organized post by asks and it's not fucking there of course.

Why would it be? According to it that ask never happened. An ask I was only trying to find because of how difficult it was to find the post I just linked the previous times I had to. Which is why I linked it in that ask. I'd usually attempt to gently convince myself into thinking I'm just recalling incorrectly but this person was really nice about my fuck ups when I answered that ask.

It would make a lot of sense if that something she lost was her previous and first pregnancy. As well as give her actions more emotional weight. Considering how emotionally devastating it is to be put into a situation where one wants to carry a pregnancy to term but is forced not to.

This would also shed some light on her mannerisms around Amane,

Asking her if she's ever wished she was never born to possibly get a yes and maybe feel a bit better about not being able to bring that previous pregnancy to term. Like well Amane's young and she already kind of regrets being here no guarantee my child would've had it better. But instead getting a entire spiel about how being born is the first miracle.

Leaving her to only be able to reply with,

"It's good that you were brought into the world, I guess."

Because that simply may be much better than pointing out not everyone gets that miracle. Yet it would definitely be something I could see someone who has gone through circumstances like that thinking. I feel like people greatly underestimate how many people in the world want children who may never be able to have any or have for reasons outside of their personal control been able to carry a pregnancy to term.

Like the fact that people can have kids is something that they take for granted literally everyday. Until they come across someone who cannot have kids for whatever reasons. It's to the point where most people go I'll do it when I feel like it because it's so commonly discussed as something people can do with very little complications.

But children are born stillborn, some fetuses form without heart beats, some people due to their line of work if they get pregnant on their job by accident will have to get an abortion. That's how the world has always worked. There are people who have kids and people who don't but the reasons for that are completely unknown to anyone outside of those people themselves.

This is a very intimate and personal issue. So, to just go oh yeah abortion easy Innocent no more thought needed was bit foolhardy at best and actively emotionally damning at worse. I can't imagine wanting a kid and having a bunch of people going you go girl ditch that fetus evict that baby. Like I'd be so upset. The fuck gives anyone else the right to weigh in on that without even asking if I wanted children or not.

Which is something the audience could have asked at any time but was very comfortable assuming the answer was no.

Different Stages of Labor

Typically, labor is divided into three stages: First stage: During the onset of labor, your cervix will complete dilation. Early in this stage, you may not recognize that you are in labor if your contractions are mild and irregular.

Dilation is when the cervix opens up after thinning. One could equate this to tearing. The cervix thinning and opening up in this way allows for the baby to pass through the birth canal for the delivery to be done without need of a c-section.

To put it in more detail which I know is what everyone here wants.

Effacement

Put simply this is what the thinning of the cervix during pregnancy and child birth is referred to as. Effacement begins when the baby's head drops down into the pregnant persons pelvis and pushes against the cervix. This causes the cervix to stretch and thin out, or efface.

Then

Early labor is divided into two phases The latent phase: Marked by strong contractions that usually occur at five- to 20-minute intervals. During this phase, your cervix will dilate approximately 3 to 4 centimeters and efface. This is usually the longest and least intense phase of labor. You may be admitted to the hospital during this phase. Your doctor will perform pelvic exams to determine the dilation of the cervix. The active phase: Signaled by the dilation of the cervix from 4 to 10 centimeters. Your contractions will likely increase in length, severity and frequency, occurring at three- to four-minute intervals. In most cases, the active phase is shorter than the latent phase. Especially since the baby is meant to drop out head side first when giving birth anyhow. Implying that the baby got out fine but was dropped at a latter time.

Fundal height tells your healthcare provider important things about your baby's size, growth and position in your uterus. It helps confirm that your baby is growing as they should. It can also tell them how much amniotic fluid is in your uterus. Too little or too much amniotic fluid can indicate a problem.

Unlike back in my mother's day. Then outside of those things I began talking about it in private which is a guarantee to get an answer from me quicker than one usually would. Sadly no one outside of myself possibly not even the asker themselves may enjoy the answer I gave here.

Work burned me out, middle management positions are draining. What was supposed to be an angsty oneshot is now… yeah I’m continuing it. Not a full series, just a two-parter… hopefully.

Edit: I DON’T KNOW WHAT THE FUCK THIS CLUSTERFUCK OF AN EMOTIONAL ROLLER COASTER IS, but BUCKLE IN BECAUSE IT PROBABLY DOESN’T PASS SAFETY REGULATIONS! HOOOOO BOY

Part 1

“…” she stared at the being in front of her, face frighteningly blank. Next to her, Bruce fidgeted.

“I’m not going anywhere, so you either gotta learn to love me real quick or get lost quicker,” the child snarked from where he was sitting upside-down on the bat computer chair. “And don’t call me Richard, my name’s Dick.”

“I don’t remember you working with a fetus, Batman,” Marinette slowly drawled, emphasizing the vigilante’s name despite none of the three of them being suited up. Dick shot up with a cry of indignation.

“I am not a fetus! I’m fifteen! I’ve been Robin since I was twelve!”

“Nope,” Marinette countered, unmoved. “I started out as Ladybug when I was twelve, and I was never as small as you,” she blatantly lied. Dick was already taller than her, which wasn’t much of an achievement considering that she was five-foot-one-inch tall. “You are six years old, tops.”

Dick let out an almost inhuman screech of complaint. Even as he rambled on angrily about how wrong she was, Marinette only nodded as if he proved her right about something.

“That was a good squawk though. Definitely a birdie.”

It took another twenty minutes before Dick ran off to tell on Marinette to Alfred, giving her and Bruce some alone time. With which she used to whirl to him and immediately hiss in equal parts fury and worry;

“Please tell me he wasn’t—“

“The timeline is gone,” Bruce reminded her, bracing her by putting both his hands on her shoulders. ��He doesn’t remember.”

“Still!”

He let out such a heavy sigh that he seemed to deflate with it, his dark circles growing more pronounced.

“He wasn’t supposed to be,” he admitted softly. “When he turned sixteen, last time, I allowed him to form his own team of teen heroes. Supervised from afar by myself of course, not that they knew that. I had given them the order to stay back and guard their city, but they disobeyed me and snuck onto the battlefield anyway.”

Marinette rubbed at her temples, nodding. “Teenagers have a habit of doing that. This time around, can we ask Bunnyx to supervise them? She has all the energy of a teenager, so she’ll fit in, but the maturity of someone trusted to guard all the timelines.”

Bruce paused, thinking of what little he knew of the pastel rabbit themed hero, and then reluctantly nodded. “That… might be for the best. And giving them more opportunities to train with…” he hummed, hand on his chin. “I might actually change things up, in that case. Instead of jumping to put teens on their own in a tower, the old Justice League headquarters is more protected. And if we started with the ‘sidekicks’,” he gave very purposeful air quotes, “of other Leaguers, it would create a better support system than letting teenagers run around with… really, not enough regulation.”

“Gotta love hindsight,” Marinette agreed with a nod. “The whole teenagers by themselves thing only worked for my team because we were overly traumatized and each saw different apocalypses before we turned sixteen. Bunnyx could fix them herself back then, but still.”

“Best to do better by the new generation,” Bruce agreed with her unspoken statement. “I can still put that old team together again when they’re older, support their development elsewhere in the meantime.”

“Oh, and now that we’re done on that topic,” Marinette snapped her fingers before pointing to the staircase that Dick had disappeared up. “He’s going to make my life a living hell, isn’t he?”

Bruce groaned, offering her a lopsided grimace of apology. “He’s a menace,” he agreed. “He’s scared away any woman I’ve brought to the house, even though most of them are completely platonic. I have to make the press believe the whole playboy thing somehow, and inviting my friends over to chat is the easiest way to do so without breaking hearts for real. Dick hasn’t caught on yet,” Bruce rubbed his forehead. “His antics to scare away Selina Kyle are legendary already, and she’s sapphic. She couldn’t be attracted to me if I was the last man on earth.”

“Could have fooled me,” Marinette teased, suddenly impish. “She’s catwoman, isn’t she?”

Bruce narrowed his eyes, saying only: “Chat Noir. Year one.”

It was Marinette’s turn to grimace. “Point taken. But in my defense, he took way too long to realize he’s gay and watched too much anime at the time.”

Bruce let out one of his unfairly charming chuckles, changing position so that his arm was around her shoulders and pulling her to his side. She fit there surprisingly well, for someone almost half his size. She leaned into him, and the both just soaked in the comfort of one another for a long moment.

“You know,” Bruce started for a while. “If you want to stay in Gotham, we can make you another alter ego so that you don’t accidentally lure Shadow Moth here. Tell that fox of yours to make it seem like you’re in Paris and take some of the weight off of your shoulders for a change. Blackmail Constantine into charming some jars to keep the butterflies in until you can purify them.”

“Hmmm.” She closed her eyes. “Ladybird sounds nice. Fits with the bird thing that Robin has going for him.”

Bruce laughed. “That’ll really annoy him,” he warned, amused. Marinette’s close-eyed smile was pure mischief.

“That’s the whole point. I’m not letting a fetus win against me, bat-boy.”

—*—*—*—*—*

Marinette wasn’t speaking to Bunnyx. Bruce didn’t know what they had said to one another, but he could guess it had to do with Jason.

With his baby, who he just buried. The boy Marinette had thought of a son ever since he first brought him home. She had even smoothed things over between Dick and Jason, which he had considered nothing short of a miracle at the time.

But that miracle was nowhere to be seen now, with Marinette every bit as despondent next to him as he was. He wanted to be angry with her, he did, but he couldn’t. He had seen her blow up at Bunnyx, seen her try to hold her status as Grand Guardian over the bunny holder.

Bunnyx had simply said that she wouldn’t answer to Ladybug until after the grief passed then, and ran away into her burrow.

“Is this the payment?” He heard her whisper, her voice hoarse and broken. “For the do-over? We passed the old timeline. We took down Shadow Moth. Is this the price?” Tears dripped down her face silently, she didn’t seem to notice them. “Was I not a good enough mother? Should I—“ she stopped herself, shaking her head. He didn’t ask what she was about to say. Maybe he should have.

Tim was great. He was too much like Marinette at times, which made Bruce’s chest ache, but he was a great Robin. A great son. His experience with Marinette proved priceless when it came to helping curb Tim’s overworking habits and caffeine addiction.

But not even Tim could find where Marinette had disappeared to, even with his detective skills surpassing Bruce’s already.

Tim was the first son of his that didn’t get to grow up with Marinette at all.

“It’s fine, Baobei,” she whispered, stepping to the side. Behind her was the waterfall that hid the tunnel to the Batcave. “He’s not the one to blame. He did his best, even now he’s doing his best.”

“Then why does—“

“Because other people need him, and he has too big of a heart to turn them away,” her mouth tilted a little, smile lopsided and sad. “Timothy didn’t replace you. He just forced Bruce to live again. Bruce didn’t kill Joker, because he didn’t want to taint another child with the sight of murder.”

“And you?” The voice was dark, deadly, gruff. Older, and yet… so achingly familiar. She smiled at him again, soft and sad and… proud.

“I don’t have one,” she lied. She had tried, tried so hard. Bruce had gotten in her way first, and then the very same desire to not taint more children with the image of death.

But her baby needed a scapegoat, and she was willing to throw herself on the fire for him.

“That’s why it’s fine,” she repeated. “If this is what you want. Just, please. Let it end with me.”

This time, Marinette made sure she had the Time miraculous safely in her pocket. Nobody would interfere with this.

The bullet sent her into the flow of the waterfall, red flowing behind her like the carpet she used to walk down with Bruce whenever she released a new collection. She felt no regret as she closed her eyes and fell.

The shot hadn’t been fatal. Red Hood might have been mad with Pit Rage, but his fondness for his only true mother figure was ever present. He simply wanted to see if she was serious about taking that shot.

His regret was immediate when she didn’t even try to dodge. The bullet had only grazed her shoulder, but she didn’t seem to notice that. She had been so ready to die— to let him kill her— that she had passed out before hitting the water. He dragged her to the Batcave, knowing he had a lot to answer for.

Bruce wished he could have found her sooner, found both of them sooner. But at least they were back.

“… I mean,” she rocked on her heels. “You are growing a bit old for Robin…”

Tim glared at her, not appreciating the insight.

“Bruce is stuck in the timestream, and you aren’t doing a thing about it. I don’t hold your opinion very highly right now,” he snipped back. She snorted, glancing away.

As if that little stunt to “kill Batman” could ever fool her. She’d been there for the real thing, thanks, she could spot a fake a mile away. “He’s got Bunnyx going to find him. She owes me big time, let her do the heavy lifting for a change.”

“How many years have you held that grudge?” Barbara asked, eyebrows raised as she wheeled herself towards the bat computer. “Even Jason thinks you should have let it go by now.”

Marinette scoffed at the exact same time as a certain someone tutted next to her, making them look for a moment like a perfect pair.

Crossed arms, a scoff, annoyed glare? If a DNA test hadn’t already proven otherwise, they might have thought Damian was hers.

“Fetuses don’t get to judge me,” was her only argument before she turned on her heel and walked away.

“I am not a fetus! Lady Marinette, I am ten years old!”

Bonus:

Jason was curled up around Marinette, despite being told numerous times not to crowd her on the med-bay bed. He argued that he shot her, so he gets to nurse her back to health.

Did she use her blood, tainted by years of use of the Ladybug, to purify his pit madness? Yes. Had he figured that out yet? Nope.

“Love you, Mom,” he murmured in his sleep. Marinette, who had been awake for about an hour already, smiled to herself.

“Love you, Baobei.”

No solid plans, just little fragments that I'm fond of.

I do actually like the bunny bone idea, in some ways. I like how it starts. She sees Red Claw just sunbathing on the moor, can't stand the idea of seeing his ugly mug around, and comes up with a way to get him in trouble. It's so petty!!

"Ohh I'll get my revenge on him! First I'll eat my lunch, and then I'll CLEAN my lunch, and put it on the border, and say that he is eating our rabbits. That will make Wind Runner yell at Clear Sky, and he will yell at Red Claw, and he will never sunbathe here again aha HA HA it's BRILLIANT, BRILLIANT, BRILLIANT!" Ok Yzma. I love you.

Mundane bullshit I love it so so much. She just ate her lunch for the drama.

That's such an interesting idea for a conflict, y'know? I love it so much more than "IT WAS ALL FOR REVENGE." What starts as petty, easily resolvable drama escalates because Clear Sky is SO easy to offend, which makes Wind Runner dig her own heels assured that she's right, and then eventually Willow Tail can't back down because it's gone too far and she hates Red Claw too much.

And even Moth Flight. I wish they did more between Willow Tail and her, as friends and allies. They both hate Red Claw for getting people they love killed, it would have been a lot more interesting seeing the two of them commiserate and confide in each other.

(but if moth had friends, then you can't do the stupid celibacy rule because then the clan would. like. help her babysit a little. which they offer to do, btw, canon moth flight is just such a freakazoid that she rejects all help. its a bad book, brent)

It's also interesting the way that Clear Sky is, again, a monster in this book. He clawed her eyes out, for the crime of "stirring up trouble." Then he stepped aside and told Red Claw he could do whatever he wanted with her. It would be a shockingly violent thing even for someone who earned that level of brutality. I really expect no less from the SkyClan tyrant.

(it's not lost on me btw, that the writers will go to bat for Tom the Wifebeater and give him a redemption death but then show Willow Tail suffering and dying slowly on screen for Clear Sky's vindication. They don't see him as the demon they wrote him as.)

Anyway... time for Fragments Proper.

BB!Willow Tail

TO BEGIN WITH: BB!DOTC is the one arc that I have no intention to stay faithful to. I do not value "sticking close to canon" the way I do with the others, it is not a consideration. It's a total overhaul-- with Gray Wing being killed in book 1 and xeir roles taken by Thunder Storm's mother, a language barrier between Park Cats and Tribe Cats, and a totally different order to the formation of the Clans.

Moth Flight's Vision is now Moth Flight's Vow... and there's no room for Willow Tail's bunny bones drama anymore. It's a completely different story with a brand new origin for the Cleric's Vow.

So if the Bunny Bones drama remains, it'll have to go somewhere else

Though I do like it, I'm also nonplussed about losing it.

I feel like the Bunny Bones plot works best with Skystar as the antagonist, because no one else is nearly as easily offended as him... but at the same time, I have a really solid plan for him losing 8 lives to Star Flower's Ritual, and then his final picking a fight with the River Kingdom, winning a significant amount of territory.

But, it would also be VERY cathartic to have Skystar's final death be just after gouging Willow Tail's eyes out, with someone deciding ENOUGH IS ENOUGH and even if Willow Tail did lie, she doesn't deserve to be tortured.

I'd be inclined towards doing the Bunny Bones plot the way I described liking it; as petty drama that got out of hand, but really revealing Skystar's true colors.

Hmm... maybe I'll make it a Tiger Sky novella, and have this be the story about her deciding to leave SkyClan.

(INFO for those who don't recognize the name: Tiger Sky is the BB version of one of the Angel Fetus Children they gave Clear Sky. She is the daughter of Falling Feather, and half-sister of Thunderstar.)

Anyway-- depending on if Willow Tail ends up being a Park cat or a Tribe cat, her name could be very different. The Wind Coalition is Park-culture, so they're born nameless and earn titles over time.

It's likely she won't end up with Willow Tail as her name, but something more like Willowbark Weaver, or Willow Flayed Bare. Willy for short.

Windstar's Revelation, a direction given by Gray Wing the Wise in the aftermath of the First Battle, is to begin innovating and moving away from violence. So I can see Willy earning this title after demonstrating excellent uses for willowbark.

Her childhood name was different. The first name a Park Cat wears is [Mentor]'s Paw, and before that, they have a simple physical descriptor.

So first of all I need to pick a mentor for her, and I'll only figure that out after making a loose allegiance list

And second of all, her baby name was probably Tabby, and her brother's was Mottle.

Speaking of her brother, though...

I don't like how they broke Frog's back and then just had him die on the way home. I dislike the trend in this arc where several cats get disabling injuries (Moon Shadow, Frog, Tiny Branch, Willow Tail), only to die of them shortly after.

So I think I will be keeping Frog alive, especially to point out how they dealt with a paraplegic cat in ancient times in contrast to modern times, with Wildfur and Briarlight.

Which means he will also need a new name and chosen mentor, if he's a Park cat. But anyway...

It's possible Jon is the real AEGON Targaryen. The TOJ story NEVER made any sense to me and it's possible D&D told us exactly who Jon really was. Shout out to Ryan Barns13 for your hard work and convincing me that this is DEFINITELY possible.

Jon the Martell, and The Prince that was promised to Sansa Stark.

One of the two biggest mysteries in the series has always been who is Jon’s parents, and who exactly is Aegon who has a song, the song of ice and fire. Many theories abound, R+L=J, B+A=J, N+A=J, Dany and Jon siblings, Meera and Jon siblings, hell if we look hard enough we could prob find moonboy buttfucking satin with a time traveling fetus tyrion opening a wormhole or some stuff to create Jon.

But I’d like to throw out a idea. Martin was totally honest with us on who Aegon the promised prince and song is. While letting us jump down every rabbit hole we can find trying to convince ourselves. Basically he told us the correct answer in the first books, but did not give us the how and why until ADWD and Fire and Blood.

Standard thinking says he’s Lyanna’s and Rhaegars, it makes sense on a surface level. They run off together, screw, have a baby, brother comes along and raises the trueborn or bastard born kid. Sends him off to the wall to protect him from Robert. Easy, cut and dried slam dunk. And utterly not born out in the text.

This story is denied over and over throughout the text, by people who were alive and around both characters. And the consensus of almost all is Rhaegar was not like that. Neither was Lyanna.

But what evidence is there for Jon being R+L=J? Truthfully??? Only 3 things. And that is how Martin has utterly sat back and let every single one of us trick ourselves. Because everyone of those things actually points to him being a Martell/Targaryen.

So let’s take a actual look at these three things.what are they? 1. Where Jon grew up at. Winterfell screams he is a Stark of some sort. 2. Jon’s looks. Jon’s long face, his dark brownish hair. Grey eyes so dark they look black. His skin tone. 3. And last but not least Jon has a direwolf, just like all the starks.

Winterfell. Just by Jon starting there we are biased to believe that’s his home and family. If he grew up on high garden, riverrun, we would be inclined to think that’s his home. On this one, we don’t know the full story. What happened at starfall, TOJ, but yes I have a theory about it. Next post. But why was there three kingsguard at the TOJ? Guarding a unborn babe? No the hidden gem, is that Jon/Aegon was smuggled out of Dragonstone to Starfall as soon as he was born.

He was never presented to the court as Rhaenys was. The fake Aegon baby was a seed from Dragonstone. The answer lies in Fire and Blood.

“Why be a lord when you can be a king?” he told the men who began to gather round him. And talk was heard in camp of a prophecy of ancient days that said, “When the hammer shall fall upon the dragon, a new king shall arise, and none shall stand before him.” Whence came these words remains a mystery (not from Hammer himself, who could neither read nor write), but within a few days every man at Tumbleton had heard them.”

The missing prophecy that turned Rhaegar into being a warrior. But if you are preparing for a war, you protect the heir. It’s shown over and over in Fire and Blood. Kingsguard sneak the prince or princess to a secure part of the realm and stay there. And what do we have, 3 kingsguard at TOJ, none with Elia, Rhaenys, Aegon, Rhaella, or Viserys the new proclaimed heir. Rhaegar was supposedly disinherited.... but Rhaegar had 3 kingsguard at Trident, 3 at TOJ, and the only one with Aerys is the youngest least experienced, the one Aerys trusts least.....

Notice Harrenhall, 6 were kept with Rhaegar and Aerys, Jaime sent to red keep. What we are missing is what was Lyanna really doing there, and what she forced Ned to promise to do.

2. Jon’s looks.... a huge red herring that is actually tying into two other families. Targaryen and Martell, just as Martin told us. R+E=Jon/Aegon.

2A: Now first off, Jon’s long face..... There is two ways one can define a long face, the shape of the face, more long from forehead to chin than wide from cheek to cheek, or the actual definition of Long Face, straight out of the dictionary. And based on the rampant use of it throughout two continents, it’s the definition not the shape being used. Here it is:

Merriam-Webster: Long Face A facial expression of sadness or melancholy

Cambridge Dictionary: Long Face If you have a long face, you look sad

It’s a description of their facial expression. Basically they are always sad or gloomy looking. Not a Stark only feature. Now who all has said face in ASOIAF, and Fire and Blood?

The most important two, pure blooded Targaryens:

Vaegon Targaryen. Long face, silver gold hair, purple eyes Alyssa Targaryen. Long face, one eye violet and one green, blond hair

The North: Eddard Stark. Long face Jon Snow. Long face Alys Karstark. Long faced Dacey Mormont. Long face that lights up, long features. (Long face, and also long face shape) Arya Stark. Long face. (Long face, and also horse face)

Iron Islands: See Harris Harlaw. Tall man, long faced and austere

Essos: Hizdahr zo Loraq. Long faced Haldan Half-maester. He had the same sour look on his long face The Little Pigeon Soldiers. All 8 were long-faced and long legged

Now here’s the facial shape long faces people

Del- a horsefaced youth near Jon’s own age. Arya Stark- a horsey grin, long face, long horsey face, her face was long and horsey Edd Tollett- horse faces fool, long face akin to a mules Brienne- horse faced Dacey Mormont long face that lights up, long features

2B: His grey eyes that are so dark they appear black....

Basically his eyes aren’t grey. Everyone assumes it’s super dark grey because Ned says he is Jon’s father. But once you get into the very dark grey and very dark purple, almost black the colors bleed into almost the same. Look up violet. And you find greyish violet to more of a purple to a violet so dark it’s almost black. It’s Martin trickery. Two of the best super dark colors are raisin and damask. They are dark. A purple so dark it looks black.

Furthermore Jon is famous for being in the shadows, the north, less light, and as we have a very excellent example of Jon’s true eyes...they look black. Aegon III, and fAegon.

First Aegon III

Aegon was a handsome boy[12] with dark purple eyes which looked almost black, and silver hair which was so pale that it was almost white.

Aegon III is Jon with silver hair. Even down to black is his color.

Aegon dressed simply, and in black (always, according to Maester Yandel,[14] most oft according to Archmaester Gyldayn).

Aegon was a joyless man,[7] severely marked by his experiences during the Dance of the Dragons. Mushroom's accounts state that Aegon seldom smiled and laughed even less, even as a boy. According to the dwarf, Aegon could be graceful and courtly when it was required, but at the same time had a darkness within him that never went away.

It’s like Aegon III got reincarnated into Jon Snow......

2C: His dark brown hair.... plenty of Targaryens have dark brown hair. Especially when they are only half Targaryen. And not always the firstborn...

First the children of Targaryen/Martell lineage:

Prince Baelor Breakspear, (son of Mariah Martell), dark hair, dark eyes

Prince Valarr, son of Prince Baelor and Jena Dondarrion) Brown hair with a streak of silver-gold

Princess Rhaenys, ( daughter of Elia Martell), looks like a Martell according to the wiki. Martells are almost uniformly dark hair, dark eyes.....

King Maekar I and Dyanna Dayne son: Prince Daeron Targaryen- sallow skin, sandy brown hair, blond beard

King Aegon V and Betha Blackwood: Prince Duncan Targaryen. Dark hair

Orys Baratheon black hair black eyes. (Targ father)

Alyssa Velaryon and Rogar Baratheon: Boremund Baratheon firstborn, dark hair Jocelyn Baratheon (second-born), married to Prince Aemon Targaryen, son of Jaehaerys I, dark eyes, black hair And Princess Rhaenys, daughter of Jocelyn and Aemon, black hair, pale violet eyes

(Lucas Strong and Rhaenyra Targaryen). All three sons came out the same...... Lucerys Velaryon brown hair brown eyes Joffery Velaryon brown hair brown eyes Jacaerys Velaryon brown hair brown eyes

2D: And most importantly his skin tone or complexion....

We are given from Bran 1 that Jon’s Skin tone and complexion do not match the rest of the starks or even the first mens.

He was of an age with Robb, but they did not look alike. Jon was slender where Robb was muscular, DARK WHERE ROBB WAS FAIR. Bran 1

Ok so dark where Robb was fair, here is Bran describing Robb in Bran 1:

He was big and broad and growing every day, with his mother’s coloring, THE FAIR SKIN, red-brown hair, and blue eyes of the Tullys of Riverrun.

Robb is first men stock almost all the way through. And he has the FAIR SKIN they are known for.

So what gives Jon his dark skin? Not Stark, not Targaryen, not Dayne. Daynes are first men, and to learn the first men coloring and skin tones one needs to go to the Dornish wiki page. To the Stony Dornish section. And you see the Dornish with the most first men and Andal blood.

Stony Dornishmen live in the passes and heights of the Red Mountains. They have the most Andal and First Men blood.[4][5]... They are FAIR OF SKIN, FRECKLE OR BURN IN THE SUN, and have BROWN or blond hair.[4][5] These include the Yronwoods with their blond hair and blue eyes,[8] the yellow-haired Fowlers,[9] and the pale blond or dark-haired Daynes.

So where does Jon’s dark skin tone come from? The Answer is once again in the Dornish Wiki page.

Salty Dornishmen live along the coasts, mainly along the Broken Arm region, where the Red Mountains stretch out into the Sea of Dorne. These Dornishmen are lithe and dark, with smooth olive skin and long black hair, having been most strongly influenced by the Rhoynar.[4][5] The Martells of Sunspear would be considered salty Dornishmen.[4]

The Martells. Who married into the Targaryen line twice. Mariah Martell married to Daeron II Targaryen, and Elia Martell with Rhaegar.

But the martells are olive skinned, Jon’s is just described as dark where Robb is fair?

Here is the definition of Olive Skin from Wikipedia:

Olive skin is a human skin color spectrum. It is often associated with pigmentation in the Type III[1][2] to Type IV and Type V ranges of the Fitzpatrick scale.[3][4] It generally refers to light or moderate brown, brownish, or tannish skin, and it is often described as having yellowish, greenish, or golden undertones.[5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13]

People with olive skin can sometimes become more pale if their sun exposure is limited. Lighter olive skin still tans more easily than does fair skin, and generally still retains notable yellow or greenish undertones.

The following list shows the six categories of the Fitzpatrick scale in relation to the 36 categories of the older von Luschan scale (in parenthesis):[6][7]

Type I (scores 0–6) always burns, never tans (palest; freckles). Type II (scores 7–13) usually burns, tans minimally Type III (scores 14–20) sometimes mild burn, tans uniformly Type IV (scores 21–27) burns minimally, always tans well (moderate brown) Type V (scores 28–34) very rarely burns, tans very easily (dark brown) Type VI (scores 35–36) never burns (deeply pigmented dark brown to darkest brown)

The von Luschan scale really shows the variations. But either way he is darker than his siblings. Darker than first men and Andals usually are.

3. Now for the Jon has to be a stark because he has a dire-wolf... NO he does not need to be a stark to bond with a dire-wolf. There are two main arguments shown in the books.

A: Varamyr Six-skins. He wants to take control of Jon’s wolf. A trained powerful warg can overpower a weaker or untrained warg bond. Mance Rayder said no. Also on this point is the prob hundreds of wargs/skinchangers north of the wall. It’s not unique to the Starks.

B: The Targaryens have the ability also. Brynden Bloodraven is the prime example. He is known to practice magic, be a skinchanger, all that. There is two reasons, targaryen blood itself, as evidenced by the bonding with dragons.

The dragons refusing to go north of the wall. It’s to protect the warg like connection. The dead can pass through. Jon brought 2 dead through. Fire magic can cross, as Melisandre burns Varamir eagle when Stannis attacks.... but warg connections are lost when one part of the bonded pair crosses the wall. Shown by Jon and ghost.

The other part of this is one of the kings beyond the wall and his brother who used the cave system to bypass the wall and attack the north. They used direwolves to guide them through the caves. People besides Starks can bond with direwolves. They have for thousands of years......

And how does Jon get more blood, direwolf bonding blood? Betha Blackwood. Married to Aegon V. The Blackwoods claim to be originally from the north, and the descendants of the Warg King.

This matters because Jon’s wolf is shown to not be the litter mate of the other pups. His eyes are open. Wolves and dogs eyes are blind for several weeks after birth. Ghost eyes are open, meaning he is older. He is a albino, red eyes. Magic, gift of the gods, bloodraven, whatever. But it’s pointing to the fact this wolf isn’t one of the litter, it’s basically a adopted pup of the mother wolf. Hidden with her children. But not one of her grey/black litter.

And we all puzzle over the direwolves names, ghost. If Jon is Rhaegar/Elias son, he has been a ghost the entire series. A dead boy, hidden.

And as for ages not being correct, look at the sheer number of Targaryen children born premature, small babies, same with Martells.

An interesting case in point is tyrion and Jon enroute to the wall..... “Tyrion sighed. “You are remarkably polite for a bastard, Snow. What you see is a dwarf. You are what, twelve?” “Fourteen,” the boy said. “Fourteen, and you’re taller than I will ever be...

Jon looks young. Like several Targaryens growing up. Especially if the normal routine of being born premature happened again. It’s on both sides of his family.

And another case in point.....

““Lord Eddard!” The shout came from the west side of the hall as a handsome stripling of a boy strode forth boldly. Out of his armor, Ser Loras Tyrell looked even younger than his sixteen years.”......

“When the echo of his words had died away, the Knight of Flowers seemed perplexed. “Lord Eddard, what of me?” Ned looked down on him. From on high, Loras Tyrell seemed almost as young as Robb.”

Loras is sixteen, but looks 14 out of armor. Looks as young as Robb..... not Jon who is supposedly the same age as Robb..... no Jon looks even younger...... that’s how Ned hid the two boys together. While lying about their ages...
