Thankfully we *totally* trust Germans on the issue of genocide and how murdering civilians and burning children alive is fine.
They have always been notoriously trustworthy on that particular issue.

A question for those among my followers who were alive and passably politically-aware in the 1980s; was there at all a sense that Reagan might try to stop the 1984 or 1988 elections from taking place?

How Project 2025 and the re-election of Donald Trump in the USA could negatively affect LGBTQIA+ rights
The above article explains my point a lot better than I ever could, but I am begging all of you on this site, particularly those of you who are living in the USA or have the right to vote there, to please consider the above. I don't normally share my political beliefs, but Trump has already stated that he wants to reverse a lot of the rights that the LGBTQIA+ community currently has in the US, which are largely delineated in Project 25. Within this law and some of his policies, Trump has made it clear that he would ban gender-affirming care for minors and he also intends to limit queer discrimination protections in the workplace. Moreover, the project would reinstate a transgender military ban and it would rescind health care protection for trans people, thus urging the Congress to define gender as male and female, which would solely be fixed at birth. Overall, his policies would stop any and all acknowledgement and acceptance of gender identity and of members of the LGBTQIA+ community in general. Please feel free to not take this at face value and to instead do your own research; the best way to combat Trump and the lack of democracy that he is encouraging is to conduct research and to fight misinformation. Sorry to reiterate this, but I beg all of you to please bear Project 25 in mind when voting in the 2024 presidential election, for those of you that live in the United States.

I may not be in my Maurice era anymore but that shit fundamentally changed me. I’ve never been more defensive of a silly little 80s movie about love

Putting some positivity out there about the election
Harris has raised a record amount of money from small donors after Biden dropped out, in addition to being able to access all the funds from their campaign they already had
Trump is deeply unpopular and people have already seen the chaos that 4 years of his presidency would bring. A lot of people have been energized to vote against him, even if they're not fond of Dems
Polling showed a red wave for Republicans in the 2022 midterms, and yet they only barely had control of the House, and couldn't even agree on a Speaker for a historic amount of time. Dems also increased their lead in the Senate. Historically, midterms favor the opposition party and have lower turnout, so this is a good sign for the House in 2024
Dems are fighting back in swing states. PA and GA both put in Democratic senators in the midterms
In my home state of PA, I am from Bucks County, which is a swing county for the state. Moms for Libery took over the school board and used it to attack queer students, enact book bans, and funnel money to themselves and the superintendent. At the most recent election, Dems turned out and took back every single open seat, ousting the board and superintendent. Worry about similar takeovers in surrounding school boards also increased turnout
Abortion rights are on the ballot in many states, which has been a winning issue for Dems and increased turnout
Republicans were prepared to attack a feeble old Biden who isn't the strongest speaker. I don't think they expected him to actually drop out, and they now have to put an 78 year old convicted felon up against a prosecutor
Awareness of Project 2025 and it's contents has entered the public sphere and is being much more openly discussed on the news. While Trump has insisted he has nothing to do with it, most of the authors worked in his administration and Trump has worked closely with the Heritage foundation
Feel free to add more things on this thread, but the most important thing is to get out there and VOTE
Vote for President
Vote for Senators
Vote for Congresspeople
Vote in your local elections
Vote Blue down ballot

The ideological purity leftists insist on is driving me insane. Sometimes you have to get your hands dirty. Sometimes you have to pull the lever in the Trolley Problem (or not pull the lever, which is still a choice). Sometimes there isn't a magical third choice that makes everyone happy.
Everyone saying they won't vote for Biden is just telling me that they don't give a fuck about vulnerable Americans and vulnerable people in other countries. I hope your precious integrity is worth all the suffering that will come out of a second Trump presidency.
Gonna need yall to stop putting Biden is Just As Bad propaganda on my dash. Had to unfollow someone because I don’t want to a start a fight with them over it, but I’m about to bite the next person who puts that shit in front of me.
If you don’t like Biden, vote in your god damn local and mid term elections for third party or further left candidates so that we get better democratic candidates for future elections. But this one is already fucking decided, and I’m NOT ending up under a Trump led dictatorship because yall value protecting your personal sense of moral purity over the collective good. Whether it offends your personal morals to vote for Biden is IRRELEVANT in the face of the alternative.
This isn’t a lesser of two evils situation. One guy sucks. The other guy is LITERALLY PLANNING TO OVERTHROW OUR DEMOCRACY AND INSTALL HIMSELF AS A PUTIN STYLE DICTATOR.
PLEASE look up Project 2025 and stop acting like abstaining is some kind of personal ethical decision!

#warning: haterade ahead#now that I caught up with playoffs and [redacted’s] team is out#I can rant about how her fan base is THE worst and most toxic sport fandom I’ve ever seen and that’s SAYING SOMETHING#like imagine all the racialized narratives leveraged for $ at the expense of a black athlete in the f1 2021 season and make it worse#online fan spaces have become absolutely UNBEARABLE even compared to last year#the media and league have stirred up the narrative to feed the outrage algorithm driven by ppl who dont like women or sports#absolutely disgusting for the league to ignore their black and queer players being thrown to the wolves for the sake of 'growth'#and i partially blame her for letting it get to this point#sure you can't control your fans but she's taken such a passive role in her own public narrative. 'i just wanna play' was never gonna work#women in public spheres are unfortunately turned to symbols in a far more toxic way compared to their male counterparts#and creating a public image is a necessary evil to help control your own narrative and how your name is used#an optimistic interpretation of her dismissing concerns about her fanbase early in the season is that she hoped it'd blow over#a more realistic interpretation is that speaking out against her racist/misogynist/homophobic fans means less $$ and die hard support#and honestly both go against the spirit of the w and her inital silence will haunt her reputation for the rest of her career#it shouldn't have taken a vet calling her fans racist (correctly!) at the end of the szn for her to take control of her own narrative#it's been clear what was happening. for months.#some of these new fans should go back to their trump rallies#everyone should NOT watch women's sports#rant over

dear americans,
as a polish queer woman and human rights activist, i know exactly how you're feeling right now and what to expect from these elections. i lived through the 2015-2023 regime of pis, a right-wing populist party that divided families in the same way trump did. i’ve experienced the rise of fascism in poland, the influence of far-right parties like konfederacja, and their “santa’s little helpers”—ordo iuris, an ultra-conservative catholic organization (banned in many countries, mind you) that helped enforce a near-total abortion ban and runs anti-queer campaigns in public spaces. i supported the black protests in 2016 as a middle schooler when they first tried to ban abortion. as an adult, i actively participated in the 2020 women’s strike, running from police tear gas daily after they finally passed the ban. i supported friends who faced charges.
i’ve lived through intense homophobia in poland as a queer teen and adult. i survived the first pride march in my hometown, where far-right extremists threw stones and glass at us. i endured the anti-queer propaganda spread by the ruling party in state-owned media. i survived the “rainbow night,” poland’s own stonewall moment in summer 2020, when police arrested around 50 queer activists following the arrest of margo, a nonbinary activist. i survived the "lgbt-free zones," the targeted violence, the slurs from strangers on the street, and the protests i held against queerphobia. it was hard as fuck, but i survived.
but just because i survived, it doesn’t mean others did. many women died because of the abortion ban—marta, justyna, izabela, dorota, joanna, maria, and many others who didn’t survive pis’s draconian anti-abortion laws. milo, kacper, michał, zuzia (she was 12), wiktor, and other queer and trans kids and young adults took their own lives because of the relentless queerphobia.
despite all of this, our experience in poland can serve as a guide now. here are some tips for staying safe and how we, polish queers and women, organized under the regime:
safety first, always. if you know someone who’s had an abortion, no you don’t. if you know someone is trans, no you don’t. if you know people who help with safe abortions, no you don’t—at least not until you know it’s 100% safe to share. if you are queer or have had an abortion, only share this with people you trust fully. most importantly, not everyone has to be an activist just because they’re part of a minority. if it feels unsafe to share that you're queer, trans, etc., then don’t. it doesn’t make you any less queer.
use secure, encrypted messaging like signal for conversations on potentially risky topics, such as queerness, abortion, organizing counter-actions, protests—anything that might be used against you.
stay anonymous online. if you want to research or report something without surveillance, do not use regular internet. get a vpn (mullvad is affordable and reliable), download the tor browser (for both onion and standard links), and if you plan to whistleblow, consider using a riseup email account.
organize and build networks. community is everything now. support each other, foster independence, because your government won’t have your back. set up collectives, grassroots movements. create lists of trusted professionals—lawyers, doctors, etc.—who can offer support.
to lawyers and doctors: please consider pro-bono work. this is what got us through poland’s hardest times. your work will be needed now more than ever.
for protests or risky actions: always write a pro-bono lawyer’s number on your arm with a permanent marker.
get to know the anarchist black cross federation and other resources on safety culture: "Starting an anarchist black cross group: A guide"; Still We Rise - A resource pack for transgender and non-gender conforming people in prison; Safe OUTside the system by the Audre Lorde Project;
for safe abortion info or involvement: get familiar with womenhelpwomen.
stay radical, stay strong, stay informed: The Anarchist Library
if i forgot to (or didn't) include something, don't hesitate to reblog this post with other resources.
