"Its more important now than ever to be outward and loud about your minority satuses, especially about being queer," and, "you need to prioritize your safety and if that means pretending that you and your peers are not queer, then thats okay," are statements that can and should coexist.
If you live in America right now as a queer citizen Im sure you are startled and scared. Your identity should not and WILL not be erased. We will reinvent the civil rights movement if we have to. Be loud and proud about your identity, be punk about it. Build community with your fellow queers and weirdos. But, also, a huge spike in violent crimes and dehumanizing laws will be passed and that can put your life and safety in danger. If its really not safe for you to be loud about your identity, and you really don't want to risk it, then dont. You may have to hide yourself. You may have to go back in the closet. You may have to resort to embarassing measures to make sure people dont find out your true self. Its okay. Its not okay, but its okay. It will BE okay soon. Its better that you make it out of this alive.
There are people that will die fighting for their identity, and thats as wonderful and beautiful as it is tragic. You are not selfish for not wanting to fight the same way, though. You are allowed to just want to live. That should be the default anyway. You shouldn't have to fight. If you dont want to, you dont have to.
For those who are willing to fight, bless your souls, and I wish you all the luck and support in the world that you bring justice in the best condition possible. For those who arent, I wish the same. I wish safety and for everyone. Stay safe, one way or another.

Why must my existence as a lesbian be political? Why must my interest in women be political? Why must fictional characters' relationships be political? Why must we as individuals be political based on something as simple our own existence? We all just want to live our lives the way anyone else would and yet we're told to keep it private and to ourselves. We are told to not hold hands or write books for our children about families like ours or people like us because our words will take away the control they want over their children. We have existed under fire and shadow for millenia, and no matter how much has changed, we are barred from having the same treatment as anyone else. No law protects us from harm and discrimination, and yet we are expected to be calm. We are expected to sit here and take it and be grateful for inequality because 'it used to be worse'. This treatment is dehumanizing, and I do not want to be treated like something taboo to be hidden. I am a lesbian. I will hold hands with my girlfriend. I will walk these streets with pride. I will write about women and I will write about loving relationships and I will write about my experience. We will not be silenced. Our existence is not inheritantly political, but you have made it so, and we will not just sit here and be silenced and erased because you refuse to listen and learn.

We asked queer youth: What do you want to say to the adults out there?
"We're just kids too, y'know? We wanna make an impact on the world, we want to live our lives, we want to be queer and be happy!"
We brought our Youth Voices together from across the U.S. to meet each other in LA for the second year running! These are LGBTQ+ people aged 13-18 from across the US who are already amazing activists, advocates, artists, writers, speakers, musicians, and more (and yes, we open applications for a new class every year, so this could be you next round)! 👀 We learned, discussed queer identities and issues, and of course, got to take some time for queer joy. 💜

There are consistent abuses of LGBTQIA+ people happening in the Kakuma refugee camp due to government neglect and hateful ideas spread about them. If you can, please support them in any way you can. Here are a couple of news articles explaining what's going on in more detail:
Additionally, please reach out to @godwin5mizo if you're interested in helping, they're an activist advocating for the LGBTQIA+ people in Kakuma, and they're willing to help explain what's going on, and how you could help them. Please help spread the word.

This need to be taken seriously please.
There's a refugee currently in kenya called David Kato ( he/him ) in kakuma refuge camp buh originally from Uganda and came in kenya after a long run away from persecution, death penalty and imprisonment that was put in place by the government of Uganda after the signing of the anti homosexual bill. After going to Kenya, the place he went to run for help in a Red Cross Kenya he was taken to a refuge camp in turkana west called kakuma refuge camp where he found many of people which were also lgbtq but we were living together, aroud 200 plus lgbtq folks. staying together boosted the starting of them suffering from a lot of injustices like hatred, discrimination, segregation, denial of human rights like right to study, to access medical aid, food, safe water, children to enjoy their childhood due to continuous death threats from the straight community that left them full of fear. As of speaking now he's currently suffering for a very severe disease of ulcers that is cause by not eating in time and also having no food due to the fact they stay inside to dodge the attacks. This is truly disgusting and inhumane. Please if you have the accessibility to, donate in this gofund me, it's important and will help a lot.
If the link doesnt work for any reason, here it is to copy paste:

The whole respectability politics in queer culture seems so weird to me, cause when women that are "anti feminist" do it, everyone is able to see she has a huge issue of internalized mysoginy and actually genuinely believes she is gonna "save herself". And we see her with sympathy, but still want her to open her eyes and be accountable for her actions.
But you have one gay saying "this purity culture is so weird, and reeks of right leaning thinking that quickly evolves to fascism. This must be an effort to erase queer culture and divide the community, and I feel bad younger generations do not want to make part of this discussion until it's too late", then all the other people are quick to jump on them and say "pOrN aDDicT" and other right leaning/fascist arguments.
And is not only feminism, other forms of activism can point out the internalized issues that the community it involves has, and how they're part of the bigger issue and end up as a tool by the same system that oppresses them. But nope. Anything gay people want to do ends up with a "you're the reason people have bad ideas about us" kinda argument.

hello tumblr i have a special treat for you
i know how much you all love to troll transphobes in the government, so i have a very special number for you to do exactly that!
recently the governor of South Dakota has created a whistleblower number to leave messages regarding colleges in the state to report anything that doesnt reflect "South Dakotan values" (AKA cishet white abled christian values!). She claims it is to improve education but specifically calls for banning drag shows and any mentions of "preferred pronouns", and removing any policy that limits "free speech" (aka hate speech).
knowing this state, people WILL be legitamately calling in to out colleges and individuals trying to just live their lives.
PLEASE fill this up with the most ridiculous shit you possibly can !! you wont have to talk to a real person NOR leave your phone number. it is only a message inbox! it says so at the end but if you want to keep your phone number private press 4# :)
THE NUMBER: (605)773-5916

Hey so friendly reminder that yeah it's dangerous and people will kill over it, but at its core bigotry is actually very fucking silly. Goofy even. Stupid and shameful and deserving of ridicule and clowning.
Like wow you really think that people who have a different skin tone than you aren't actually people, and in fact that it's the "natural order" of things for you to at worst own them or at worst subjugate? Bro wtf is that shit. Like literally they disprove that shit by. Existing. How do you convince anyone when this is, bare bones, the argument. Clownery.
Oh, trans women are actually men pretending to be women so they can... *checks notes* attack "real women," trick men into sleeping with them, and groom children? And trans men are "lost lesbians" being tricked into "giving up their fertility?" WHAT!? Do you people even hear yourselves?
Let's see... oh my favorite! Apparently, according to the rising tide of the alt-right, the best way for humans to be governed and organized is to kill, convert, indoctrinate, and/or otherwise do away with those who think, look, act, or speak differently than the way a handful of people (who have not met and never will meet a grand majority of those under their power) think they should be. For real? Omfg fascism is literally disproven by the simple fact that LITERALLY NOT ONE SINGLE PERSON ON THIS PLANET THINKS THE SAME WAY. It's so inherently foolish that I have to wonder why people want it so bad.
These issues in our world are, obviously, multifaceted and complex, and pointing out that they're silly is not gonna fix the issue overnight. It is also important to remember that vulnerable people have been, are, and will be killed for these ideologies, and fear of them and the people spewing them are entirely warranted.
But it's also important to remember that these vulnerable and marginalized people just wanna live their fuckin lives. And they're being denied that because some clown with too much money and power is being fucking stupid because the idea of being around different people scares them.
That. Is. SILLY.
And when confronting these bigoted beliefs, when fighting those who cannot be persuaded, it is important to remember that 1, shame is a powerful tool, and 2, they're fucking idiots who don't wanna change because they've never had to.
