Bro this whole discourse over who would be a republican/ a trumpie in the dc verse is so stupid imo bc we have so much canon info
Batfamily: none of them have been even vaguely conservative since the 90s, infact they’re all pretty far left with Bruce being the most center because he trusts one (1) cop. (Oooh but dick was a cop, yes as an infiltration tactic until he realized they were too corrupt -he was also like 19-20 during this time- to fix and canonically doesn’t work with them at all as a rule)
Bruce rebuilds his city pro bono like twice a year and single handedly funds like 80% of their social welfare, it’s also canon he refers goons to the nearest Wayne enterprise and gets them hired if Batman knows they’re just their bc they’re struggling
Arrows: NEVER INSULT OLIVER QUEEN IN MY FACE EVER AGAIN. This man is 50% a communist 50% Bernie sanders biggest fan depending on the media.
This man would never be a republican ignoring the arrowverse like it’s actually canon that Ollie won’t shut up about politics
Superfam: … the illegal alien who has to hide the fact he’s different from everyone else in a small town…. Hmmm maybe Kon is conservative if you’re blind, deaf and a little slow, Jon has a pink haired boyfriend and is besties with a middle eastern/south Asian kid actually so let’s not?
Clark Canonically hates the KKK you think he’d be part of the party whose candidate was endorsed by them??
Flashes: Barry Allen is a conservative, Wally west was when he was younger but he’s been pretty liberal since he became as adult, Wallace has never been conservative (TV Barry you will always be the most likeable Barry)
Lanterns: Hal Jordan is a Conservative, the rest are in fact not
Wonder Woman collective: Diana??? Donna??? Artemis?? Cassie??? None of the above don’t be dumb
Anyway it’s pretty hard to have a heroic character who doesn’t believe in social welfare? Since they’re running around saving people for free and 99% of them are anti killing. + having characters be sexist, racist and/or homophobic makes them less likable objectively and also narrows down the amount of stories you can tell.

Gotham Rich People
So there are other millionaires and billionaires in Gotham besides Bruce Wayne.
I'll wait for you to get over the shock.
You good? Ok
There are other stupidly rich people in Gotham. A thought that if you've really made it in stupidly rich society in the dc verse then you have to have some property in Gotham where you stay for like a month or so every year like it's the regency society season. It's a sign that you're so ridiculously rich that it doesn't matter if someone steals your priceless painting or holds you for ransom because you can afford it and still be ridiculously rich. You are rich enough that your bodyguards are so skilled that they can keep you safe in Gotham. Because people are stupid and people who are rich and want to be snobs about it and show off tend to be a little more so than not.
Ridiculously rich seasonal Gothamites will also absolutely think that being kidnapped and held for ransom by one crime family or another or a rogue shows a different level of quality and status. Because they are just that bored and just that rich. And it lets them deal with the ✨trauma✨ ala gallows humor.
Lex Luthor has a bunch of snobby rich people look down their noses at him because he doesn't have Gotham property (Bruce keeps outbidding him when he tries and then Tim does the same when Bruce is busy because neither want Luthor in their city though sometimes people just won't sell if they find out it's Luthor trying to buy the property because they don't want him in the city either) and while he's rich enough to make mechs to go after Superman he can't afford quality Gotham caliber bodyguards.
Oliver Queen might have had a tiny by rich people standards apartment in Gotham, he inherited it. It may have been destroyed during the quake. He doesn't bother to rebuild or buy a new one and just stays in fancy hotel if he has to be in Gotham for any length of time and grumbles that Bruce won't let him crash at his place.
Tim gets Drake Manor back, if he didn't have it already, and puts it in his and Kon's name so Kon can be smug at Luthor because Kon has property in Gotham. Tim might come up with another secret identity as Connor Luthor's Gotham bodyguard just for fun. Superman may be Luthor's villain nemesis, Tim is determined to make himself Luthor's social and business nemesis because Tim apparently doesn't have enough people who want his head on a pike. Also fewer people give Tim well meaning lectures against villainy when Tim makes trouble for Luthor than when he's made trouble for Clark after Clark has said or done something dumb to Kon. Plus having a business nemesis makes being primary shareholder in Wayne Enterprises less mind numbing for Tim.
These other stupidly rich people also end up getting fleeced for millions by the Waynes for the Wayne charities because if they're going to have all these extra idiots to keep an eye on then these extra idiots are going to pay for things like the road work that the city isn't paying for because the city budget was embezzled by some jerk who ran off with the money to some other hole in the ground.
If Jason is bored enough he will be one of those rogues who kidnaps one of the Gotham elite visiting for their maintain the status month and the ransom money goes directly to literacy and educational programs. This way his preferred causes are funded and he doesn't have to be stuck in a suit at a horribly boring gala where he has to be polite. He is also considered the top tier platinum star in rogues to be kidnapped by since he is professional, has kidnapped Waynes before (Damian convinced him to do it so Damian could get out of a series of civilian parties and go hang out with Jon instead and a few times Cass has gotten Jason to "kidnap" her so she doesn't have to deal with a gala either) and is known for returning people when the ransom is paid. He has, on occasion, returned people after the ransom demands were made and denied and it is later discovered that he took the ransom anyway and the person who denied to pay the ransom finds themselves in serious physical and legal trouble. Seasonal Gotham rich people will absolutely brag about having been kidnapped by the Red Hood who clearly has good taste in hostages.

You know what Fenton's DO NOT like?
Folks hurting: A) their family, B) the innocent, C) those under their power, D) KIDS...
Or WORST of all?
ALL OF THE ABOVE.
You know... like the Cloners on Kamino would be. Cause the Fentons may be Mad Scientists™ but they aren't UNETHICAL Scientists! (Anymore. Look, they're in both therapy and recovery. They were VERY wrong and unfortunately exposed to a blast of some VERY dangerous corrupted ectoplasm in college. Recovery is a process.)
And lil Ellie? Their sweetie Dani baby girl?
Unstable! Her poor genes are a MESS!
That is not something they can FIX with the level of technology they have available to them in their universe. They are NOT waiting around trying to HOPEFULLY give her the quality of life she deserves! What if she gets caught with out her medicine one day? And WORSE! They have no idea what long term exposed to this stuff is DOING to her!
Their daughter is not a lab rat!
So off to harrass- I mean, ASK POLITELY, that old ghost mentor of Danny's! The time man! Jack? Grab Him. *violently shakes the literal manifestation of time, to the horror of many, but the amusement of Clockwork*
Off to the Star Wars verse! Through a convenient weak spot on this planet in the uncharted zone! Fancy new hyperdrive! They can pay in bricks of gold, right? Meh. Pariah better be good for SOMETHING, the bastard.
They arrive!
Steamroller their way in, as Fenton's do. Unfortunately? Then the Long Necks? Open their FUCKIN MOUTHS. *record scratch.* *ominous Fenton silence*
*slooooow Fenton Family Head Turn*
WHAT. :)

I wanna like brainstorm and never fucking finish a DC/The Boys crossover where Vought exists inside the DC universe as like a shady big entity/pharmaceutical company and instead of having manufactured heroes through out its history it will instead be more recent. They'd be a part of a government contract to create a "reliable" superhero task force that answers to corporate and political powers. Cuz, ya know, the Justice League doesn't answer to anybody.
Their PR machine paints the Seven as "the heroes America can trust." While the League would be painted as rogue vigilantes who "operate above the law." Vought debuts the Seven and still do the whole supes as celebrities thing. Of course, the Justice League absolutely does not like this. Batman in particular would hate it and he would know Vought as an awful company since the fucking beginning. As a point of tension and because this is how I feel they would work the League members would be hesitant to fight the Seven because to them they're more civilians and definitely victims. And it would be terrible optics.
I'd make Batman the focal point of the fic. He's on the Vought situation because he's human and is well versed in corporate culture and espionage. His psychoanalytical skills would be key, too.
There'd be serious stuff but some comedy.
First of all the Internet and media would be amazing
Superman would drive Homelander nuts and make him feel inferior and not even because he's really trying to.
Queen Maeve would oscillate between envy, admiration and lust with Wonder Woman. And Wonder Woman would genuinely try to be helpful.
The Deep would try to befriend Aquaman to gain legitimacy, only for Arthur to ignore his friend request.
A-Train would predictably view the Flash as a rival thus causing collateral damage trying to prove himself.
Black Noir was quietly sent by Vought to assassinate Batman once only to fail spectacularly.
Starlight would love them and they would love her. Case closed.
Translucent is there.

the theoretical me that exists in the YJ gets packed up verse (DC continuity does, after all, supposedly take place on Earth and my home country is yet to be blown off the map) just turned into a Superman rogue and they only have a vague idea why. man, fuck Clark. just what is, or isn't, he thinking? what pack? what pack???
He DOES think Kon has a pack, I will say, because this is working-at-Cadmus era Kon and so Kon does have a lot of connections and friends there. Clark just has assumed that those connections and friends are more pack-like than they actually are and, uh . . . not ever discussed it with Kon?? ( Clark, why. )
Also, like, word of god he heard a cat up a tree/natural disaster somewhere and ran off quicker than he should've to go deal with that instead of having a full and proper conversation with Kon and giving himself enough time to realize Kon did NOT in fact have any pack to go to, which I think is something I should posssssibly try to make evident in the narrative sooner than I originally intended to so everyone doesn't start stocking up on the kryptonite. 😆 Possibly.
( Look, it's Kon's POV and Clark was trying to be polite, okay?! The dumbass. The absolute DUMBASS. )

like the lis verse as a whole is so interesting because it's a story about superpowers rather than superheroes or supervillains. it has the basic structure of a lot of comic-book style verses, with characters in different storylines and backgrounds manifesting different powers under similar conditions (usually stress, trauma, etc.) and using them, inadvertently and deliberately, to shape their environments. but these powers aren't known or even hinted at in the larger political discourse of their world, in part because there's so rare (and limited to the Pacific Northwest, apparently) there are no shadowy government agents or corporations trying to keep things under control--or if there are, like in listc, it's for an unrelated matter entirely.
people with powers never encounter each other, never have dramatic battles where ability is tested against ability before they either learn to get along or destroy each other. none of the villains in any lis story have any abilities of their own; expect Lisbeth, none of them know superpowers even exist. so you've got none of the traditional elements of a superpower story, none of the traditional checks and balances meant to keep your superpowered character on their toes, except for the ones inherent in their own abilities.
the world these characters live in is heavily altered by superpower use (Arcadia Bay is the biggest example) but it's hardly ever registered as such, because the vaster world doesn't want to believe such things as possible, or in the case of lis2, choose to collapse them into their own narratives of religious faith. there are jokes made in-game about superheroes or supervillains, but despite the heavy reliance on binary choice, the supervillain-superhero divide isn't written into the fabric of the world the way it is in Marvel or DC. each powered character is a small god in their own specific story, their own specific universe, expected to define themselves on their own merit, in a world that looks like our own because it hasn't been reshaped by a superpowered culture enough to be anything else.
it makes the experience of having superpowers into this very intimate experience of godhood and self-knowledge, of at once feeling alone because you're the only one you've met who can do anything like what you do and unlimited because you're the only one who can do anything like what you do. attempts to weave it all into some kind of larger narrative, like Lisbeth's viewing of superpowered people as "angels," only leads to distortion of the powered character's journey and eventually results in failure. and yet, all of these stories are very much intimately woven into the outlines of real-world prejudices and pains, instead of just the vague idea of superpowered people being discriminated against for being "different." the question because not whether you are able to defend yourself, but how you choose to defend yourself, and what sort of deity you hope to become in this very new mythology that has only just being to transform your world.

i’m looking for discord 1x1 rp partners!
about mun : i’m twenty - three, been writing since 2019 ( on and off ). i was mostly on twitter before, but this year i’ve really enjoyed roleplaying on discord as it’s much easier and more convenient in the long run. i consider myself advanced literate + descriptive / novella and enjoy writing long, intricate storylines that include character development on both sides. my general activity fluctuates, depending on my availability and muse, but i would say i’m generally active for about seventy - five percent of the time. if i am / you are not in the mood for writing, i’m still down to plot and chat. i absolutely enjoy making playlists, pinterest boards, and sending my writing partners stuff that remind me of our characters so if you do write with me, pls expect me to be so annoying! teehee.
ground rules / reminders :
i am only comfortable writing female characters, and i mostly write mxf, but i’m also open to writing fxf.
i’m absolutely fine with mumu rp!
i don’t write with people below 18 years of age.
i don’t like writing smut - centered threads ( esp taboo stuff ). i’m okay with writing intimate moments but prefer to time - jump / skip when it gets to the graphic smut point.
canon characters that i write + wanted ships :
caroline forbes from tvd universe. ( ship: klaroline )
jean grey, bobbi morse, and carol danvers from marvel universe - mostly comic based. ( ships: jeanscott, clintbobbi, caroljess )
selina kyle and pamela isley from dc universe - mostly comic based. ( ships: batcat, harlivy )
bonus: ( characters i’m not writing as but want to write with ) jj maybank and rafe cameron from outer banks. ( would prefer to write an oc for them. )
tbc bc i’m gonna add more to this once i remember them
other verses i want to write in / explore :
percy jackson / greek myth
the boys / gen v verse
fantasy worlds with royalties
superhero worlds
harry potter verse
slice of life
wanted plots / dynamics :
arranged marriage ft. royal family. having to marry each other for political / power / etc. reasons. bonus points if they absolutely loathe each other. could be set in a fantasy / mythical world ( maybe a bit of game of thrones / house of the dragon vibes ) or just a normal world with royals.
very famous popstar / actor and their secret, non - famous partner. maybe they’ve been dating for years or they just met each other in some interesting circumstance. lots of sneaking out + secret pining, jealousy, hiding from the paparazzis, dealing with the public’s reaction once people find out they’re dating, and learning how to deal with it themselves.
exes to lovers + fake dating. exes who have to pretend to still be together / married in order for one of them to receive their family inheritance. inspired by christina lauren’s book, the paradise problem.
mafia / gang / family rivalry ft. forbidden romance. kind of romeo and juliet vibes. their world doesn’t want them together, but that doesn’t stop them from trying to bend it to their will.
accidental pregnancy. they could be friends, a one - night stand between strangers, or a newly divorce couple who spent one last night together for ‘ closure ’. regardless, it resulted into a surprise, very unexpected baby.
fresh out the slammer. ( obviously inspired by taylor swift’s song ) muse a went to prison for a few months / years ( possible plot twist: they went to prison for something muse b did ), and once they got out, they re - connect with muse b and they run away together, against everybody’s wishes.
‘ i’m supposed to kill you but i fell in love with you ’. muse a could be a spy / assassin sent to gain muse b’s trust and kill them ( muse b could be from a very powerful family, perhaps even the heir to a throne ), but the more they got to know them, the more they fell for muse b and realize they couldn’t go through it at all. maybe muse a eventually decides to help save muse b since they know that if they couldn’t finish the job, another one will come and do it for them.
these are just some of the things i currently have in mind but i’m also down to brainstorm / read your ideas and wanted plots! while the things listed here are all romantic / ship - centered, i would also very much enjoy platonic and familial dynamics. if you’re interested, like this and i’ll send you a dm.

#DOOMEDWARLOCK: " I'm a nasty piece of work , chief . Ask anybody . "
Lev's non selective JOHN CONSTANTINE from Vertigo Comics, DC Comics and the Sandman Universe. Exclusively comic influenced.
promo template - character playlist
RULES & INFO UNDER THE CUT -
RULES -
Basic etiquette is expected: no godmodding, ic is not ooc, etc.
I don't consider all of hellblazer canon to my portrayal, I might make a list at some point, but most notably I am choosing to ignore Brian Azzarello's Hellblazer and the final 50 issues of the original Hellblazer. Also Hellblazer: Rebirth and any comic that takes place in a different universe. If you wish to rp with specific versions of John (like DKoS or Injustice verse) feel free to come plot!
A giant quest onto itself- I haven't consumed every media John has appeared in. For reference I have read/watched (in no particular order):
the entire original Hellblazer run and its special
Constantine: The Hellblazer
Hellblazer: City of Demons
Hellblazer: All His Engines
Hellblazer: Chas the Knowledge
sandman #3
Swamp Thing 1982
The Horrorist
That one action comics issue he appeared in
Sandman Universe: Hellblazer,
Hellblazer: Dead in America
Hellblazer: Rise and Fall
The Trenchcoat Brigade
Dark Knights of Steel
injustice year 3
Batman: Urban Legends
Batman: Damned
Zatanna and the Ripper
Spirit World
both dark justice league movies
Pre established connections and plotting is encouraged. Especially if your muse is from DC or the Sandman universe.
Hellblazer is a british political satire horror comic about a queer man in the 80s, this means trigger warnings for canon typical gore, a general pessimism about the world, politics and Britishness. Smoking and alcohol abuse will also be present. I will tag these triggers and any other common ones that may arise.
if you decide to unfollow me please (soft)block me
rp memes are the best way to start interacting with me, they are always accepted no matter how long ago I reblogged it.
INFO -
A foul-mouthed, disillusioned, chain smoking British cinic, John Constantine has had an affinity for magic since his youth. After running away from home as a teenager after a botched curse caused his father to become withered and frail, John eventually made his home in London. Quickly becoming involved in the city's occult circles. From there he made a name for himself for being a powerful sorcerer, one who can solve most problems with only his wit, but also a weirdness magnet. Becoming inevitably linked with forces truly out of his depth.
Though John's age varies across media, for simplicity's sake I will keep it at 43. His usual stomping ground is London, but he travels around very often for various reasons so he can easily be put wherever he needs to be. He's a very easy character to add to other universes (just ask DC).
He is also a relentless flirt, please don't mistake this as me trying to force a ship. If you / your character don't like his advances, feel free to let me / him know ic / ooc. Characters under 25 are too young for him.
Mun is 23 and Belgian

One of my fav batfamily things is the concept of 'library time' that was briefly mentioned in some DC thing I watched/listened to a few years ago. Like, all of Gotham's biggest rogues have gimmicks. You have to be well versed with riddles, dolls, plants, music, birds and fables- all this completely random shit IN ADDITION to anything political or geographical about Gotham (corrupt members of office, underground cities, etc.). There is no way he isn't making his batbrats read like 3 hours a night??? I low-key headcanon that Jason Todd had some ADHD + dislexyia and the reason he's big into classic lit/reading ig now is because it's no longer hard to focus and read after being dunked in the Lazarus pit.
#v.rambles#my ex gf started taking meds and became a reading MACHINE#she will live on in Jason Todd lmao

When you think about it do humans in the DC verse lack/or posses more of the instincts we have?
I say this because when you think about it, when you are born into a world were super intelligent, meta-humans, gods, demons, aliens and etc exist, with superheros who protect the world you know, your bound to evolve to either lack or posses more of some survival instincts right? Like I get it they do in some verses but a lot of the time the TV shows or movies and even comics are rather independent and face similar but different things so?.
We don't have that (that we know of), an have a rather corrupt world so we evolve to combat the things around us that don't protect us or have things in the body to do that. In certain verses it seems those humans bodies lack the ability to sustain themselves from some unknown germ or the like, like how we can for awhile.
(I get their cartoons and fiction but I like thinking in realistic terms so does my theory have merit? Do you agree? Please be polite about any opposing opinions if you comment.)

YOU MAY KNOW ME BY MY MORE COLOURFUL MONIKER ... HOOK.
an infamous pirate across all seven seas, killian jones was not always captain hook. a man with a code, he braved through the seas in search of riches and found something infinitely more valuable instead: love. it was upon losing it that his legend turned somber and his spirit voracious. without care for anything other than his insatiable thirst for revenge, the captain is a charming man capable of being terrible. there are no limits as to what he wouldn't do to achieve his revenge – his heart has turned rotten, and there may be no salvation for it.
" his eyes were the blue of the forget-me-not, and of a profound melancholy, save when he was plunging his hook into you, at which time two red spots appeared in them and lit them up horribly. in manner, something of the great seigneur still clung to him, so that he even ripped you up with an air, and I have been told he was a raconteur of repute. he was never more sinister than when he was most polite, which is probably the truest test of breeding. "
𝙿𝙾𝚁𝚃𝚁𝙰𝚈𝙰𝙻 𝙽𝙾𝚃𝙴𝚂: my portrayal of killian will blend both his show canon as well as elements from his character from the j.m barrie's novel, the dark and sinister man that he can be. i love both versions dearly and will adjust depending on verses – quite happy to make him his softer self when interacting with other ouat characters. also, in regards to his romantic journey on the show, i assume nothing with emma roleplayers! although i love cs, i do prefer to plot their dynamics a little before jumping into canon territory.
STORYBROOKE, the first curse › JAMES ROGERS is an underpaid police deputy with a bad attitude and an affinity for rum. By day, he works at storybrooke’s police station with a perpetual frown on his face and an unwillingness to truly be of service to the community. while sheriff graham is ever the golden boy, well-liked by the people in the little town, rogers stands as the unpopular ne'er- do-well half who’d much rather be at a gig in the rabbit hole than patrolling the three streets of storybrooke. in the evenings, he is the lead singer of local rock band the buccaneers, who can’t for the life of them make it past the town border with their music. must be the curse, of course. not the fact that they're just really not that good.
DARK AND SINISTER MAN, the captain › this verse intends to cover his days as a pirate navigating through the seas. could be pretty much based on any form of worlds, as the jolly roger is equipped with magical properties that allow for interdimensional traveling between realms. he will solely go by captain hook in this portion of his story, at his most malicious.
AU VERSES UNDER THE CUT:
THE FEVER, THE RAGE, gotham / dc › detective killian jones was a stand-up member of the gcpd. dedicated and incorruptible, he and his brother liam did all they could to maintain their code of honor and fight for what's right. but in a rotten city, such is a fool's errand. the duo is tragically separated when liam is killed in an mob ambush that costs killian not only his brother, but his hand. jones becomes insatiable after the fact, thirsty for revenge. he abandons all forms of morality he knows and becomes determined to make those who killed liam pay for their crime.
killian soon becomes the thing he's hunting. after taking down the operations of mobster known as rumplestiltskin through less than orthodox means, he takes the crown for himself. leaving behind his life of crime-fighting, killian turns the tide. the club once owned by rumple becomes his, and is aptly renamed THE ROGER, a pirate themed environment that is befitting of its new captain: HOOK, for now the detective wears one in the place of his left hand. he becomes gotham city's brand new mobster, with a small gang of his own and a reputation he intends to only make more gruesome.
FABLETOWN'S HOOK, vertigo's fables › Captain Hook is more accustomed to the mundane world than most. For one, he goes by the name of KILLIAN JONES rather than his more colourful moniker. For another, he found a way to sail swimmingly in the waters of the new world; though it did take some time for him to find this particular set of sea legs. Hook came into his money during the 20th century, where the age of the internet came to be and he embarked on it readily.
Killian became incredibly apt at computer science, his interest in the subject being sparked by the sheer interest in exploiting this new age to its fullest – specifically, to his advantage. He saw the opportunity in virtual piracy, having become ( arguably ) the first internet pirate. He started out with a small, simple scams, but as the technology progressed and the phenomenon of the internet grew bigger than anyone could possibly imagine, so did Hook’s empire. Though most his business is integrated well within the mundane world, Killian still lives in Fabletown, New York City. He owns an apartment at the Woodland, and his most trusted assistant is one Mr. Smee. His company was made on shaky grounds, morally and legally, but now boasts a reputation for being an exquisite virtual security company ( thanks to the viruses Killian himself releases ) as well as developer. The government of Fabletown is very generous to him, counting on his yearly donations at Remembrance Day to keep things afloat.
THE WORLD IS QUIET HERE, asoue › Killian Jones is an active VOLUNTEER of the secret organisation known as VFD. He is the younger brother of Liam Jones, who was the sole reason why Killian stayed on the fire fighting side of the schism rather than the alternative, which really would have suited the man’s inclination for trouble and insubordination much better. However, as it often occurs in the life of a volunteer, Killian had the misfortune of outliving his brother. Liam was one the first casualties of the schism, having been killed under mysterious circumstances aboard a sailing boat with little else around him but a fish hook, a compass and an out of place string of tagliatelle grande. Killian mourned his brother as any in his situation would: solidifying his position in the fire-fighters' side and becoming one of its most active field operatives. The desire to avenge his brother’s death still simmers underneath the surface, making the last standing Jones very willing to eliminate the threat that the fire starters pose on the first opportunity that arises, though the chance never quite seems to come about.
THE NEED FOR SPEED, top gun › lieutenant killian "hook" jones is a legacy of the top gun program, being the brother of the late liam jones, who died honorably in battle ( although killian has his doubts about calling it that ). with his heart in the skies, killian is a reckless pilot who attempts one too many risky maneuvers. he is bold, he is brash and he is damn charming. doesn't give a damn about anything other than himself or his bird.
FORTUNE AND GLORY, mercenary › set on modern days, killian jones is an infamous mercenary with a dodgy past that he keeps close to his chest. no one really know why he does what he does, but he's the best at it. killian is an incredible sailor and performs most his assignments and operations through the seas, which sets him apart from the competition. Do you guys have podcast recommendations? I'm caught up on everything I listen to, but you guys are my favorite podcast, so I assume we have similar tastes
AWWW i'm so honored that we're your faves! grey is no longer a podcast listener so i (crystal) shall be the only answerer
in terms of people-watching-a-thing podcasts, i've enjoyed:
doctor huh- two siblings, one a former doctor who watcher and one who... only knows about it from social media... watch nuwho eps in a random order
zero to zero- three friends watch dc/marvel properties and respond w fun and funny levels of haterism. i have enjoyed ALL of this despite never once touching something they reviewed. on maybe-permanent hiatus
LMNOP- the only good cbs elementary podcast. also on maybe-permanent hiatus
i've been meaning to watch that- i've listened to less of this one, but it's hosted by manika dulcio, who we had on our s4 wrapped, so if you liked her there check her out on her home base!
as for fiction podcasts, listing my fave subscribeds below! for some of these, the first few eps are kinda rough but i've found them all resoundingly Worth It eventually! also if you, babpod listener, care about this, all of these have queer main characters and i'll bold the ones where the main char is explicitly a poc:
hi nay- "a supernatural horror fictional podcast about Filipina immigrant Mari Datuin, whose babaylan (shaman) family background accidentally gets her involved in stopping dangerous supernatural events in Toronto." v rich lore v good at being creepy! (ongoing)
the silt verses- what if every single folk deity was real and hungry and society ran on ppl being sacrificed on telephone poles? incredibly sexy writing like SO sexy (ongoing)
midnight burger- space diner adventures and friendships! they recently dropped a 3-hour beautifully audio-engineered season finale they've grown so much since the beginning. great cast and fills you w so much wonder about The Universe (ongoing)
greater boston- an expanding cast of chars tell the story of the forming of a new city on the boston red line train cars. makes u wild about community and interconnectedness and local politics and how no one is beyond compassion while also having like. cheese robots (ongoing)
within the wires- what if a world war led to a worldwide cultural shift that decried all tribalism starting at the family unit and babies were separated from their parents at birth? extremely interesting world and formats though i do think it's kinda tired after s4. i think listening to s1 then reading the companion novel might be the Move (ongoing)
unwell, a midwestern gothic mystery- what it says on the tin! lily returns to the fading small town she grew up in to care for her mom. there are ghosts and town history and wolves in the woods. some rlly beautiful and complex family relationships and friendships, great vibe and sound design (complete)
parkdale haunt- p classic haunted house horror (well i say classic. there's also an influencers cult) which i also consider a Top Friendship-Focused Media (complete)
alice isn't dead- usamerican road trip show about the horrors of freedom. spn wishes. love jasika nicole as a VA (complete)
the pasithea powder- epistolary space bisexuals after a war that left them on opposite sides. excellent interpersonal drama and aliens (complete)
wooden overcoats- v funny british funeral home rivalry show antigone funn is the weirdgirl extraordinaire (complete)
monstrous agonies- nice soothing ten-minute segments of a supernatural advice show. i think i've mentioned it as being the anti-spn in terms of the monster rights and monster-human cohabitation background of the world (complete)
midnight radio- ten-episode small town radio show ghost romance. it's an excellent annual fall listen if you have a saturday free (complete)
mabel podcast- ONE OF THE PODCASTS OF ALL TIME. if you care about women you will like this podcast. i've always found anna and mabel so revolutionary and freeing to listen to. horror podcast about fairies and a house that loves (creepy edition?) you (long hiatus)
brimstone valley mall- silly delightful y2k demons in a mall (long hiatus)
the far meridian- magical realism story about a girl living in a teleporting lighthouse. sweet and melancholic (long hiatus)
khôra podcast- greek myths in space. i need to hug all the characters (long hiatus)
ty for this ask i love podcasts i need to catch up on them!
- Crystal :)
#hope this is a helpful list! idk what pods you usually listen to i hope this list isn't like. sooo basic#i feel like ppl's relationships to fiction pods are like 1. what's that? -> 2. only magnus archives and night vale ->#3. a nice portfolio (where i'm at i think. i've been here like 8 years i think) -> 4. Knows Every Single One (my cool mutuals)#i also hope you aren't a fully nonfiction pod listener this would be so unhelpful if so#asks

For the Folger’s production, Verona is recast as a fictionalized Washington, DC, a metaverse inspired by our real-world election cycle, which sees the conservative Lord Capulet running against the liberal Lady Montague. Audiences for the play will be greeted by campaign ads and footage from the metaverse’s national nominating conventions as they enter Folger Theatre. Campaign ads and the digital ephemera of the metaverse will be woven throughout the production as well.
...Lady Capulet’s verse was derived from the speech made during the Republican National Convention by former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz was the inspiration for Benvolio, and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’s speech provided the basis for the remarks by Paris. Meanwhile, Mercutio’s words were adapted from Oprah Winfrey.

Chris Evans returning to the MCU in AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY...
And KRAVEN THE HUNTER being the end of the "Sony Spider-Man Universe", their series of Spider-Man adjacent movies about the webhead's antagonists...
Well, that's certainly the end of an era. VENOM kicked off this uneven series of 2000s pseudo-edgy throwbacks back in 2018, a year that was excellent for almost every CBM/superhero movie on the block, from the three MCU entries that year (BLACK PANTHER, INFINITY WAR, ANT-MAN/WASP) to the animated films (INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE, the TEEN TITANS GO! movie, INCREDIBLES 2) to the other stuff (Fox's DEADPOOL 2).
The VENOM movies seemed to get by on the buddy movie pairing of Eddie Brock and the symbiote creature, but the same couldn't be said for hacked-to-death-in-post movies like MORBIUS, MADAME WEB, and now KRAVEN... Set to flatline on opening weekend, with abysmal reviews to boot, against a $110m+ production budget. Sony is now focused solely on the fourth MCU Spider-Man movie and BEYOND THE SPIDER-VERSE. (Yeah, I heard today that Miles G. Morales' voice actor Jharrel Jerome hadn't recorded his lines for BEYOND yet... It's a non-story to me. The movie is far from ready, let's put it aside for the time being.)
I feel like, in addition to the MCU starting to see some big money-losers (like THE MARVELS) and relative underperformers (ETERNALS, QUANTUMANIA), it's another brick pulled from the 2010s superhero movie Jenga tower. That whole Spider-Man Villains Without Spider-Man Universe seemed to be building towards nothing, and to me it always felt like a weird attempt at riding the MCU wave.
The whole appeal of the MCU, to me, was that it took characters' whole worlds and bridged them together. Whether it was the techy world of Tony Stark to the New York neighborhoods of Spider-Man to the cosmic high fantasy of Thor... You get the idea! Spider-Man's world and all the people/villains he knows, that's not a shared universe to me. They would, logically, share a universe w/ Tony Stark and his network, Thor and his network, etc. These movies were little more than just spin-offs of a Spider-Man film franchise that didn't exist. Were they in Tobey-Spidey's universe? Andrew-Spidey's? Some live-action Spidey we hadn't met yet? It was never really clear. And I guess it won't be, unless some internal plan leaks out now that this series is kaput.
So now that leaves, going forward... The MCU (which Tom Holland-Spidey is a part of, unless he got throttled into another universe after AVENGERS 5/6), the nascent DC Universe spearheaded by James Gunn and Peter Safran, the Matt Reeves Batman "Crime Saga" Whatever-Verse, the MUTANT MAYHEM TMNT universe, and the SPIDER-VERSE series.
I think if those Sony movies leaned harder on the 2000s weird-edgy-too cool angle, they could've really stood out from their contemporaries. Nostalgic for a time that included Ben Affleck DAREDEVIL and Halle Berry CATWOMAN for sure, but still would've been unique to the MCU, the DC movies, and everything else. Hell, MADAME WEB took place in 2003. Would've been perfect... But alas, they did not go this route.
The MCU bringing back Chris Evans has been painted as desperate, given the send-off Steve Rogers got in AVENGERS: ENDGAME. Now unless he's returning as another Johnny Storm variant and not the one that got horrifically nerfed in DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE, this... Uh... It shows how last-ditch a lot of this all seems to be. Bringing back Robert Downey Jr., now Chris Evans, teasing this massive crossover of several familiar characters, etc.... All because the plans with Kang really did not work out. This feels like Disney desperately trying to squeeze out one more hurrah from this flailing franchise, instead of going smarter, smaller, and focusing on the characters again. Like, why is the supposedly on-the-ground political thriller CAPTAIN AMERICA 4 going through yet *another* round of reshoots that have apparently ballooned its budget to $375m+??? What the heck is going on here?
It's kinda telling that little DOG MAN from DreamWorks, done on a presumably tiny budget, could probably be one of the more successful superhero movies of next year. How the Gunn-Safran SUPERMAN kick-off of the DC Universe movies (since it started recently w/ animated Max series CREATURE COMMANDOS) performs remains to be seen. I think animated comic book movies will weather this sea-change quite nicely, as MUTANT MAYHEM 2 and BEYOND THE SPIDER-VERSE should turn out good.
But it's amusing to me how two titans of 2010s comic book movie, the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the DC Universe, are the ones to keep an eye on like this... to see if they can crawl out of the early 2020s maelstrom that claimed the likes of BLACK ADAM, QUANTUMANIA, SHAZAM! FURY OF THE GODS, THE MARVELS, AQUAMAN AND THE LOST KINGDOM, MADAME WEB, and JOKER: FOLIE A DEUX... And keep going, maybe even adapt and change. DC - both Gunn's universe and the Reeves Bat-verse - looks kinda primed to do that, not sure about the MCU, though.
