im loving the fact that tommy is an established character with established relationships with the 118, just like karen, just like athena, just like maddie, because that was a huge thing that made it a part of why i think it was so hard to like bucks previous love interests.
like, yes. abby and taylor tried to gel with them, ali kinda knew OF them, but natalia was completely seperate and lucy wasnt even really a love interest. neither of the main 2 (abby and taylor) actually had any link to anyone other than buck. taylor was the closest (but she fucked that up badly lmao).
im so hyped to see whether we get more of tommy and the 118, because he has history with all of them, except eddie (who he's now good friends with), and buck (who he is now dating).
if you look at all the other 'partners', they are all a part of the 118 family, and pretty linked together: athena is besties with hen and married to bobby, karen lived across from and was good friends with chimney and is now married to hen, maddie is bucks brother and is married to chimney, etc.
i feel like bucks other love interests were only ever linked to him, and he always worried about losing them, because he didnt think he was good enough.
but this time with tommy the difference is (tommy actually cares about buck) that hes known by his family and hes safe and hes confident and caring and patient, plus the rest of the 118 all think hes a good guy, and also tommy saved bathena and chimney and hes friends with eddie, and christopher likes him, etc.
everybody that matters to buck, except maddie, likes and knows tommy.
(and who is he going to introduce tommy to next episode? maddie.)
maybe buck doesnt have to worry so much about him leaving, like abby did, or worry how to introduce tommy to his family and not have him run for the hills from the complex parts of his life, like natalia or ali did
because tommys already halfway in it yknow?

Last thing I’ll say is that I would LOVE to be proven wrong in the final episode, but it really seems like we are focusing on villains of color in the B half of this season and I hate it 🥺

Is anyone else deathly afraid that the high of Buddie finally going canon is going to be immediately doused by a negative (but fair) reaction from Christopher in the very next episode, when they tell him, and he’s immediately terrified that he’s going to lose Buck if they ever break up? Nope, just me? Okay.

i haven't mentioned this before but one tommy kinard family lore idea i'm really attached to is his mother passing away during childbirth, while giving birth to him. just something something about him and buck both growing up haunted by this feeling of a life lost in exchange for theirs where tommy is aware of it his entire life, where his father slaps him in the face with the fact every chance he gets, in contrast to buck's ignorance and the sense of hollowness he feels in the pit of his stomach. something something about the buckley parents' grief translating to neglect and blindness when it comes to buck vs the kinard patriarch's grief becoming words that cut a bit too close to tommy's skin and pressure and unrealistic expectations that make him feel like he's gonna choke. something something about buck feeling unsettled all his life, lost about who is because of daniel's passing and maddie's abandonment and his parents' neglect of it all vs tommy knowing exactly who - what - he is but not being able to look it in the eye because it would be the one thing to make him even more worthless in his father's eyes than his existence costing them his mother's life.

I really do hope that once the dust settles and we get Buddie canon (whether that's this season or next season) that Tim Minear opens his damn mouth and says yes although we didn't know minute to minute every detail of how it would happen, we've been building this love story between these two characters for ages and if you didn't see where it was headed for the last x years you weren't paying attention, sorry you don't understand how long form storytelling works. Because him saying 'oh yeah the whole bi Buck storyline was sort of last minute once we got Lou on board,' while true, is making a lot of casual viewers say 'oh this is woke nonsense, see the writer himself says this came out of nowhere'. Which - look, I honestly do not give a fuck if homophobes or biphobes don't get it, they're never going to get it, but this narrative unintentionally gives their shitty views validity. Not only does it do a disservice to the carefully crafted writing, editing and acting performances that have been building this beautiful love story for years, it robs queer viewers of that as well. It makes it look like the bigoted assholes are correct, that this was dreamt up for shock value or to bow to the "gay agenda", and it's damaging not only to the amazing work of everyone on this show but to the way our stories are getting told now and in the future.

7x09 is titled "Unfinished Business" ....
Tell me that is not a revenge plot against Bobby. TELL ME. You can't. If I was not convinced before, I AM NOW.
hErE mE oUt.
I'm not saying they are going to burn down Buck's loft, I AM NOT... BUT, imagine Bobby is dropping a patient off at the hospital with Hen and Chim (I know this hardly ever happens but roll with me guys), and our friend, the Burn Unit Nurse, sees him, and is like...
"Bobby?" BECAUSE, he recognises him, from all those years ago in Minnesota. He lived in Bobby's apartment complex, they were somewhat neighbours, and he saw Bobby go into that vacant apartment that night (the night we do not DARE talk about), on his way to work, and was working a night shift at the hospital when suddenly, they get an influx of patients with burns and smoke inhalation from an apartment fire downtown, and he hears in passing from a nurse the address, and his heart sinks because no his fiance was at home asleep at that address and he hears from someone a few weeks later that the fire started in a vacant room due to an electrical issue with a space heater and HE JUST KNOWS.
And Bobby turns around to face him and is like "Sorry, do I know you?" Because Bobby was going through it back then, he doesn't remember this guy, and the guy is like, "Sorry, no, I was mistaken." And he walks away leaving Bobby all like huh.
Then the episode ends with the truck pulling into the firehouse and the camera pans out and we see BURN UNIT NURSE GUY STOOD ACROSS THE ROAD STARING UP AT THE FIREHOUSE BECAUSE DUN DUN DUN- He has some Unfinished Business to attend to.
If this so happens to lead to the burning down of Buck's loft because this guy does his research and he does some stalking and he sees a connection that Bobby has with Buck that he doesn't seem to share with the other members of the team, then well, ya'll didn't see it here first but I fucking called it if so, because you're telling me that is not a CRAZY storyline right there.
BUT, even if not, even if we do not get our beloved loft burning down scene that we have been writing and praying for on Fanfiction for years, you cannot tell me that there is not going to be some kind of dark revenge plot going on in the last four episodes. This nurse is about to cause some HAVOC I CAN SENSE IT. MY SPIDEY SENSES ARE TINGLING GUYS.
Anyway, @whollyjoly and @thetangycheesemanwithaplan had the absolute joy of hearing this from a very sleep-deprived me last week and now that the episode titles have been released, Buck's loft burning down and Burn Unit Nurses revenge plot is going to be my new personality trait. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU.

I don’t really post much but I’m just genuinely heartbroken that we got to see a beautiful relationship like this - Buck finding a part of himself he knew was missing but was never sure about, Tommy allowing himself to love openly and without shame and finding joy and laughter with each other, in supporting each other with the big and small, making a point to show us how time has passed and that they are still working on a still very new relationship - only for it to crumble into ash like it meant nothing at all. It meant something to ME. It gave ME hope. If there isn’t some grand plan about how this was the big hurdle they both had to overcome…then there truly isn’t much hope for television.
The disrespect for the fandom and for the characters…what some fans have done in the name of the fandom is disheartening, and could even have played a part. I did not need this today. I needed a healthy relationship with “too much” finding his happy ever after with “you’re enough.” Please.

i’m thinking about it and I just. Eddie’s S8 arc would be so introspective in the way that, finally, Eddie is allowed to consider who he is at his core.
Christopher is gone, and it feels like a part of him is missing, because who he has ALWAYS based himself off of is being a dad.
He thinks of his time with Shannon, which was shit btw, and gaslights himself into thinking “I loved being married to her” because he saw himself as having to be a husband to her.
And all this time he has only been portrayed as 3 things; a dad, a husband now widowed, and a traumatised army medic.
Which brings us to the question of, without all three identities,
Who is Eddie Diaz? Truly?
If he didnt have Chris. If he wasn’t previously married because of it, and as a result didn’t have to feel like running away to the Army, then who is he? Who might he ALLOW himself to become?
I just think it would be so good to see it happen.

Another hot take from me:
I actually didn’t have a problem with the sperm donor storyline, in theory. I don’t really care that it was weird or out of left field. I didn’t even really care that the show went out of its way to discuss people’s attitudes towards sperm donation. It was the execution that made it flop so hard. They forgot to develop Buck’s character at all with it.
We could’ve gotten a whole arc about how being a sperm donor and participating in creating a new life dug up how Buck feels about fatherhood in general. It should’ve been a catalyst for Buck exploring what kind of father he thinks he would be, if fatherhood scares him because of his trauma with his own parents, how much he wants to be a father if at all, and if he does, how does he want to approach achieving that goal? We could’ve seen him going to Bobby, Eddie, and chimney seeking out what fatherhood means/looks like to each of them and the different nuances in perspective from their VERY different parenting journeys.
Imagine if we got all of that, and Buck decided “Yes, I do want kids,” and it helped push him off the hamster wheel of relationship churning because now what he’s looking for in a partner is how they also feel about kids and how he thinks of them as a parent too. He becomes more discerning with who he dates because now he’s not just looking for someone, anyone, to project intimacy on but to actually find someone he can settle down with.
But instead we got Natalia, I guess…
