To those who don’t know:

there are two (2) demonized characters in To Kill A Mockingbird.

One is a black man accused of raping a white woman.

The other is a neurodivergent/mentally ill reclusive white man rumored to harm children.

Both are explicitly stated to be good, innocent men.

The former is killed by police.

The police cover up the latter’s involvement in the death of another white man and let him live his life in peace.

Harper Lee could not have been more explicit with her messaging if she hit her readers over the head.

This is a book about racism -civilian and institutional, as seen through the eyes of an elementary schooler, featuring racist characters who use racist language. It is semi-autobiographical historical fiction based on the author’s own life, family, and their experiences.

The most stated reason it is banned is because the language used makes people uncomfortable.

(Good. They should be. Because it makes them face the realities of the past and present of the country in which they live.)

The reality is, people in power do not want you to think about this. They have it under the rug, because if it is brought to light, it shows how the system is rotten to the roots. And if it’s rotted, it’s something that needs to be gutted and replaced, or pruned and tended to by careful, knowledgeable experts.

The people making these policies do not want this. They want to keep the rotten system and use it to keep down the people they hate. To keep their power and privilege. To use it as a vehicle, tool, and a weapon for their ugly, violent prejudice.

Don’t let them.

People need to do some goddamn research on how sexual assault accusations are leveraged against marginalized communities, particularly black men and queer people, and how often people are sentenced to detah over crimes they didn't commit.

Grown adults CANNOT be sitting here talking about how a new death penalty policy is good because it's only against people who rape children and those people deserve to die. Like are you hearing yourselves right now? Are you fucking serious? Are you so blinded by your emotional responses and revenge fantasies that you can't comprehend how horrific these sorts of policies really are and how they're used as weapons to kill the people the state doesn't want to exist?

I'm legit seeing people saying that there's no way those sorts of laws would be used against trans people and I just. You cannot be this naive. You CAN'T. You cannot seriously be so ignorant of the realities of the death penalty to serously sit here and defend it while still calling yourself a leftist. I am going to claw my own skin off.

personally i think the trope of "said something i wasn't supposed to while high on pain meds at the hospital" only works if it's smth actually incomprehensible. down with this trope. that and the whole "speaking out loud but the narrator doesn't know they are" trope. you should legally have to tag that i think. i know this usually happens for characters that would never admit something otherwise but actually there are a billion reasons someone would admit something they wouldn't otherwise. for example: someone else has a bomb-

I feel like we as a society need to acknowledge the media literacy every fan of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein goes through.

Which goes in this order:

-Victor is a monster for what he did/The Creature is the victim.

-The Creature is a monster for what he did/Victor is the victim.

-The Creature AND Victor are simultaneously victims of their circumstances.

-The Creature and Victor are both perpetrators and both show incredible entitlement that ruins the lives of victims around them. You cannot excuse either characters actions no matter how much you empathize with them.

I still have not been informed if that is still a common greeting in this day and age but all the same.

Mabel has requested that I make my own blog on this so called app after showing me the ins and outs of it. I am still getting familiarized with it however so I hope you all will be patient with me.

Since I am here I thought it would be a great way to share my personal research and educate anyone interested about the anomalies of Gravity Falls.
