October 2024 Books
Flower Fables by Louisa May Alcott
Alcott's first published book. Rather didactic little fairy stories, but charming in their way.
Hospital Sketches by Louisa May Alcott
A memoir of her time as a nurse during the Civil War. Not a very long book, but it showcases her skill in humor and pathos.
Foundling by D. M. Cornish
Very impressive world-building! Maps, illustrations, a glossary that adds another hundred or so to the page count. In the midst of all this, the story and characters got a bit lost for me, though, and I had a hard time keeping up with it.
The Watsons Go to Birmingham - 1963 by Christopher Paul Curtis
Like the eponymous family, I went to Birmingham earlier this year and had a moving experience touring the 16th Street Baptist Church and the park across the street. So I went into this book expecting a historical fiction explorations of the events of 1963. And yes, it does deal with that; it's thematically important, but most of the book is about Watson family drama, particularly the narrator's relationship with his determinedly delinquent older brother, and it's quite some time before going to Birmingham even happens. The family dynamics are the heart of the story, and it accomplishes that well. It was just very different from my expectations (which is an observation, not a criticism).
Bud, Not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis
This one hit home emotionally for me more than the previous title. I can see why it won the Newbery. The balance of Bud's tragic circumstances with humor throughout is effective.
The Sky Over Rebecca by Matthew Fox
A beautiful story that made me sad. It's looking for answers to issues of death, but tragically the worldview can't find them. It's a lovely friendship story, though.
The Ghost Sitter by Peni R. Griffin
Told from the perspective of a young ghost who doesn't realize she's dead and has some unfinished business to address before she can move on. Not my favorite of Griffin's works that I've read, but a poignant little story if you can look at it as an exploration of the role of the ghost in folklore.
Otto from Otherwhere by Peni R. Griffin
Very different from the previous title, about a boy from an alient planet who gets stuck on earth for a while and has to try to assimilate--which is difficult because he doesn't speak English and he doesn't entirely look human. Maybe not the most original premise, but an interesting story.
The Deadly Daylight by Ash Harrier
I spent a lot of this book waiting for the girl with the on-the-nose name and the potentially fatal sunlight allergy to find out that she instead has light-based superpowers that were being suppressed her whole life...but this is not that sort of story.
It's a mystery. A pretty striking one, with memorable characters. There was a content issue that I could have lived without, but on the whole an enjoyable book, and I would be interested in reading the rest of the series if they ever become available in the US.
Patricia's Secret by Ruth Daggett Leinhauser
I think I added this book to my tbr because it's about a girl living on an air force base in the 1950s, and as someone who grew up on base for most of my childhood, I was curious to see a fictional depiction of military family life from several decades before my time. There's some dated attitudes (toward girls, which is era-typical), but it's a cute story.
The Secret of Goldenrod by Jane O'Reilly
Girl makes friends with a talking/sentient doll she meets in the spooky abandoned old house that her father is fixing up, and actually maybe the biggest plot twist is that this is not a scenario for a horror story, the doll is not evil, and it's actually a whimsical fantasy interwoven with a more dramatic story about family dynamics and how a hostile town gets a change of heart.
The Patron Saint of Second Chances by Christine Simon
A Wodehouse-like scenario of deceptive/misunderstanding shenanigans, but told in a much blander style than Wodehouse's. The humor of the story would have shone more with some livelier prose.
The Lost Library by Rebecca Stead and Wendy Mass
A very charming story that took me by surprise sometimes! I think I could tell which chapters Mass must have written--something intangible that reminded me of her style in The Candymakers.
Rufus by Catherine Storr
A weird, weird story about a troubled boy who steals an artifict that somehow enables him to alternate between his own present and ancient times, which is a character development opportunity. Not my favorite of Storr's, and I'm not totally sure what I think of.
The If Game by Catherine Storr
A boy whose emotionally distant father is keeping important family secrets from him suddenly finds himself able to walk through doors that lead him into an alternate version of his life. The fantastical elements serve the main story, which is about the protagonist's complicated relationship with his father. It definitely intrigued me.
The Underground Conspiracy by Catherine Storr
I as an adult could tell exactly what the teenage protagonist is getting roped into, long before she realizes it, and it was worrying. Sort of a mystery or thriller? As ever, Storr writes interesting character dynamic.
The Mirror Image Ghost by Catherine Storr
Less of a ghost story and more of a time-slip story. There's family drama in the main storyline, connecting with the story of the grandfather, who managed to escape Germany during WWII although the rest of his family didn't. There's a lot to unpack in that background, and Storr isn't afraid to opt for the more complex and challenging options in the outcome of the narrative.
The Amulet of Samarkand by Jonathan Stroud
Stroud's prose is as ever beautifully polished. I enjoyed Bartimaeus as a narrator, with all those footnotes. I just couldn't get into the story, so I don't think I'll be finishing this series.
The Necromancer's Apprentice by Beverly Twomey
A charming story exploring themes of grief, with a very creative approach to what a necromancer does in this fictional world.
Artificial Condition by Martha Wells (reread)
I love Murderbot but I really struggle to adapt to the terminology of technical sci-fi, which presented some challenges when I first read this series. This time, I am deliberately taking it very slowly and carefully, without having to worry about due dates. I understood this one much better this time around! and enjoyed it.
The Locked Garden by Gloria Whelan
I am not immune to intriguing-looking middle-grade books with "Garden" in the title. This turned out to be interesting historical fiction set at a hospital for patients of mental illness around the turn of century, but the garden of the title is much less central to the narrative than its presence in the title would suggest. I appreciated that Whelan had every opportunity for a cliched outcome but does not take it.
Comics
Hilda and the Troll, Hilda and the Midnight Giant, Hilda and the Bird Parade, Hilda and the Black Hound, Hilda and the Stone Forest, and Hilda and the Mountain King (reread)
I had a random hankering for this series. It's suitable for fall.
Justice Society of America 2007 Vol. 3-4
The overabundance of characters continues to be this book's primary flaw. There's never enough space to adequately develop character arcs for everyone. Grant (the reason I'm reading this) gets a moment in the spotlight when his severely scarred face is restored...by a villain, which results in Grant's joining this guy's cult and developing Acquired Situational Narcissism. Potentially interesting stuff, but it's not followed through on. By the end he's back to square one, except with a girlfriend now. No further exploration of the consequences of his destroying his father's house, for instance. Going to leave everything to nonexistent fic writers, I guess.
The Flash #750 (special edition)
I have no context for what was going on in the main story, but the various short pieces were fun, as was the reprint of Barry's first appearance in the 1950s.
JSA Vol. 10
Someday I'll get the full context for this series, but I bought this volume for its story involving flashbacks to the original JSA team, including Grant's father.
Justice Society of America, Vol. 1: The New Golden Age + issues #6-12
Twelve issues was not enough space to develop everything that was going on in this series, and honestly I was more interested in the Lost Children angle than I was the main plot about the daughter of Batman from an alternate world. (I love the batfamily, but they don't need to be in the JSA book, let alone half-taking it over.)

Opinion about the game Detroit: Become Human
I can't believe the plot. They didn't explain to us what "deviation" or "deviant" is. Apparently, when Androids act of their own free will, they become deviants, but this doesn't mean that they should've human feelings, dreams and desires. According to this logic, it turns out that Connor is a deviant, since he plays with a coin, thereby showing will. Otherwise, why would an Android prescribe this action in the code?
Why did Simon give Connor the coordinates of Jericho in the archive? As if Marcus had forgotten about it himself?
Kara's storyline turns into Syberia 3 at some point.
Alice is also an Android — bullshit. It seems to me that it'd be easier for a living girl who is destined to be with Androids to sympathize. This partially devalues Kara's work. In the ending with Alice's death, again, it'd have been more dramatic if she'd been a human child who died for a dream. But since she is an Android, she didn't arouse strong emotions in me.
Okay, this eases a lot of problems with the law (due to child abduction), but what's the point of Android kids? The fun of children is that they grow up. People themselves don't understand how children think, what to say about Androids? Let's make more old Androids and disabled Androids. By the way, even on TV, it seems, there was an announcement about the missing Android and a GIRL. Alice also showed signs of illness. Then what is it?
We didn't see android children on the streets of Detroit at all. Are these such rare models? How does a bum like Todd have money for Alice and TWO Karas?!
Alice didn't know she was an Android. Was it possible?! Why did people have problems if they could just make Androids that don't know they're Androids? How was Alice bought? Turned off? Why doesn't she have a LED on her temple?
I thought until the last moment that Alice would die like Patricia Holman from "Three Comrades" with pneumonia. Alice lived out her days trying to find happiness.
For some reason, Kara doesn't know about the location tracker inside herself and believed Zlatko, although how does an Android have confidence? Even if you just think logically, why are the cops and Connor looking for Androids if they have a tracker inside them that fits this case? I think Kara should have analyzed all this by turning her head gears.
How did Marcus's hole become overgrown with skin after pulling out the LED? And why doesn't Alice have a LED? She was definitely not made to order, because in Jericho we saw exactly the same girl, but with a LED.
Marcus's storyline is nonsense. Why do they care about their slavery? What don't they like? I understand if they demanded a human attitude towards themselves, but not equality, because Androids don't get tired, don't get sick, don't die, fix themselves... Also, I don't think they consist of rapidly decomposing materials. If Androids get the same rights as humans, then the planet will come to an end. A lot of Androids will be produced, everyone must be provided with housing, and since they don't die, there will be no real estate move.
I don't understand why Marcus is imposing his worldview on other Androids. In fact, by freeing them from slavery, he enslaves them to himself. Towards the end of the game, all Androids are built into a huge systematic column. You can't put people like that. They really look like a herd.
Why can one Android talk to another through touch? What is the meaning of this function for people? Moreover, later we see that Kara and Luther are quietly communicating remotely. Like, in this case, you don't need to write dialogues? It's possible that this very deviation manifested itself in different ways for everyone, but we're never told exactly what it was.
How does Marcus know how to kill people if he's not a fighting Android? Do they have something like an Internet connection? Then, with its help, it'd be possible to spread your worldview many times faster.
Blunder: Marcus, having cut out the first glass in the TV tower, threw the cutter into the bag. After climbing to the top of the TV tower through the windows, he takes a cutter out of his pocket.
Where do Marcus and the team get new clothes from?
Marcus, after killing Leo (or Carl), decided to kill even more.
Is Marcus a robojesus? How did he "free" people with his eyes at the demonstration?
Blunder: When Connor found Marcus in Jericho, when choosing to "Convince", he would shoot Marcus under his feet. Has anyone heard the sound of a gunshot in a building crowded with Androids?
It's strange that the main characters can beat the special forces on their helmets and thus knock them out. I understand that having helmets solves problems with drawing new faces, but it's superfluous in gameplay.
Blunder: Hank didn't say anything about the window Connor broke.
I've seen a lot of ships on Tumblr of Connor with Marcus, Connor with North, Connor with Hank and more... And I understand that I can't ship with anyone at all, because I don't understand what Androids are, which is why I can't get into the characters.
I thought the theme of the game would be that Androids would show humanity more than humans. It showed well at the beginning of Kara's storyline, but I didn't think they would really become them.
Every Android has found happiness in their understanding. Marcus found happiness in giving freedom to others. Connor found happiness when he found himself. Kara found herself taking care of the girl, and her freedom was Canada.
I think the lore is poorly thought out. The game started well, but then she just started asking a bunch of questions that aren't easy to answer, too much food for thought. There's also no balance of responsibility in the game. She mercilessly forces you to make one choice after another, forcing you to bear responsibility for the consequences. Sometimes the game seems to punish you for showing humanity, even though it asks you to do so. It's very tiring.
Perhaps the game could use a separation of scenarios. Since the game touches on many topics and asks many questions about them, it is very difficult to understand everything in the porridge of scenarios.
I'm not saying the game is bad. No. There was a lot of good in it. I understand that this is a work of art and that everything in it could have happened the way it happened. What is the task of the artwork? Ask questions. The game copes with this task perfectly. Moreover, the questions are ambiguous. However, transferring the plot to reality, it is difficult for me to ignore the points described above.

Planet Fitness sees $400MILLION wiped off its value in just five days after banning member who exposed 'trans woman' shaving in the female locker rooms
The valuation dropped from $5.3 billion on March 14 to $4.9 billion on March 19
It follows a week of backlash over the gym chain's decision to ban a member who shared a photo of a 'trans woman' using a female changing room
By ISABELLE STANLEY FOR DAILYMAIL.COM
PUBLISHED: 18:51 EDT, 20 March 2024 | UPDATED: 21:08 EDT, 20 March 2024
Planet Fitness' valuation has plummeted $400 million in five days after they banned a member who shared a photo of a 'trans woman' using a female locker room.
The company's value dropped from $5.3 billion on March 14 to $4.9 billion on March 19, and its shares are down by 13.59 percent compared to a month ago.
The decline follows Planet Fitness' refusal to walk back its decision to ban a member who exposed a 'trans woman' shaving in a female locker room earlier this month.
Patricia Silva was barred from the gym in Alaska after she detailed an incident online - where she said she saw a transgender woman in her locker room.
Following backlash against the ban, the company said although some members may feel uncomfortable sharing facilities, 'this discomfort is not a reason to deny access to the transgender member.'
The company's valuation plummeted from $5.3 billion on March 14 to $4.9 billion on Tuesday and only rallied slightly on Wednesday
Patricia Silva was banned from Planet Fitness after she shared a photo of 'a man with a penis' who was using the female locker room to shave
After her encounter, Silva took to Facebook to tell people about her experience and recounted her argument with the transgender individual- Planet Fitness would go on to ban Silva and file a police report against her
Planet Fitness' policy stated that 'discomfort is not a reason to deny access to the transgender member.'
The company's stock fell by 7.8 percent on Tuesday, going from its opening price of $59.44 to a five-month low of $54.80, it then rebounded slightly.
Silva posted a video describing her experience at the gym on Facebook in early March.
She said she had just finished working out at Planet Fitness' Fairbanks location, when she saw the person, whom she called 'a man with a penis,' carrying out his routine in front of a 12-year-old girl.
Silva, who has previously run for Fairbanks Borough Assembly, told the 'trans woman' they should really be using the male locker room. The trans woman replied that they were 'LGB.'
Silva then took a picture of the person and shared it online and recounted her experience in a Facebook video: 'I just came out of Planet Fitness.
'There is a man shaving in the women's bathroom. I love him in Christ. He is a spiritual being having a human experience.
'He doesn't like his gender so he wants to be a woman, but I'm not comfortable with him shaving in my bathroom. I just thought I'd say it out loud.'
Silva - who has shared QAnon conspiracy theories on social media - also described the encounter in a written post online.
'I went to planet fitness… Walked in the bathroom, and there stands a MAN shaving… I looked at him, said 'hey' … he looked up… and I said, 'You are a man shaving in the women's bathroom, and I am not OK with that.'
'He replied… 'Well, I'm LGB…'
'Whatever that is… nevertheless, I told him 'You're a MAN and you're invading my space!'
'He wanted to argue to justify why he can be there… I walked away…
'I stepped out of the locker room and loudly asked the front desk, 'Are you aware that there is a MAN shaving in the women's bathroom… I'm not OK with that ⁉️' The two men standing at the desk, put their heads down, and their tails between their legs! As I was walking out the door…at my back, a woman shouts 'it's a girl'… I shouted back 'it's a man!''
'PF cancelled my membership and allowed the pedo to stay ‼️,' she stated.
Planet Fitness revoked Silva's membership and filed a police report against her, citing her violation of gym policy by taking photos and/or videos in the locker room.
Woman tells 'trans woman' to get out of the gym bathroom.
Former Planet Fitness gym goer Patricia Silva has defended her reaction in a series of Facebook postings
Her actions clashed with the gym's commitment to 'creating an inclusive and safe environment.'
Planet Fitness' statement shared by Libs of TikTok followed the same line. They doubled down on their decision.
In their statement, the gym said that the staff should 'work with members and employees to address this discomfort [sharing facilities with transgender members] and to foster a climate of understanding consistent with the Judgment Free character of Planet Fitness.'
The statement continued: 'Planet Fitness staff shall strive to address transgender members with names, titles, pronouns, and other terms consistent with their self-reported gender identity, if reasonably known to the Planet Fitness staff.'
The statement said that 'a transgender woman shall be referred to by her preferred name and female pronouns.'
And a 'transgender man shall be referred to by his preferred name and male pronouns.'
It concluded that the gym 'reserves the right to terminate a person's membership immediately for any violation of this policy.'
When DailyMail.com contacted Planet Fitness about their policy, they reiterated their statement issued after Silva went viral.
'As the home of the Judgement Free Zone, Planet Fitness is committed to creating an inclusive environment. Our gender identity non-discrimination policy, states that members and guests may use the gym facilities that best align with their sincere, self-reported gender identity,' it read.
'The member who posted on social media violated our mobile device policy that prohibits taking photos of individuals in the locker room, which resulted in their membership being terminated.'
Planet Fitness decision raised eyebrows and drew criticism and comment from Utah Congressman Phil Lyman and Tesla's Elon Musk.
Lyman wrote: 'transgender 'rights' supersede women's rights.'
Musk wryly responded to one of Silva's videos with an exclamation point.
Other users were far more blunt in their assessments of Planet Fitness' actions.
One person wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: 'Planet fitness is not safe for women. Cancel your membership and get some free weights. Cheaper and less travel time.'
Another user said: 'Give Planet Fitness the Bud Light treatment, cancel your membership, and let them know why.'
Another person echoed this sentiment: 'Well Planet Fitness deserves the bud light treatment.'
Someone claimed that they had taken action, writing: I've cancelled my membership. #BoycottPlanetFitness.'
Another user penned: '"A transgender shall be referred to by her preferred name and female pronouns." This is what's known as forced speech and it's unconstitutional. If we had a real DOJ, they'd prosecute this assault on the First Amendment. #BoycottPlanetFitness.'

NOOO!! keep going! i would like 2 hear it
Okay so.
The subaltern is defined as the person who is colonized, and thus placed in a submissive position. For Pandora that should be its native population only, but...
Under the framework of Orientalism that Said describes, Bandits share a BUNCH of traits with the subaltern orientalized. They are:
the Other, the Evil, the Beyond. This one is self explanatory. Bandits are barbaric, savage, so on so forth.
massively homogenized - all the bandit clans look more or less the same, even in 3 when you're taken to different planets (this is only sort of remedied in the dlc but dlc bandits have different group names so ???) they only really differ by skin color and accessories and those things are unrelated to their possible clan affiliation
never allowed to speak for themselves, i.e. everything about bandits is filtered through non-bandits. You do meet bandits and they do "speak" by themselves, but you are unable to meet them on equal footing. Krieg and Nisha are the closest, but Krieg is explicitly "not like the others" (noble savage trope anyone?) and Nisha is just straight up evil with zero nuance anyways. And then there's Vaughn which is a non-bandit who "went native" and therefore speaks for the bandit not with it.
The one feature that does not fit is the... seemingly very arbitrary nature of being a bandit? Ellie, Zane and Moxxi despite being born to "bandits" are never actually called bandits. Krieg is a type of bandit, on paper, but he doesn't get called a bandit. Both Brick and Vaughn become bandits ("go native"), but only the latter is ever called a bandit - also in the former case, the bandit thing pretty much goes away at some point (Brick tells you straight up not to be worried about killing his own people, what the fuck dude), and in the latter it's treated like an (admittedly kinda funny) joke. Also, as, I said above Vaughn is literally a "nativized" colonizer WHOSE ENTIRE CLAN IS DEAD AT THE START OF THE GAME (BOTH IN FIGHT FOR SANCTUARY AND IN BL3), so he is quite literally speaking for the bandit for there is no bandit alive to speak for themselves.
Then there's Tyreen's line about how bandits are "human wreckage left behind by the Corporate Wars"... like okay that is clearly a disenfranchised group. These people need help and you are mowing them down in droves! It doesn't help bandit clans have a disproportionately large amount of xenohuman or mutant members, like holy shit please learn to be nicer! (But I already ranted on how Borderlands assumes human nature to be Not Nice, contrary to its critique of capitalism so w/e)
...I know that this is a video game that needs a subhuman enemy for the player to mow down. But the bandit isn't just subhuman, it's an orientalized depiction of what I can only describe as a massive galaxy-spanning criminal subculture.
Btw this is the video essay I mentioned in the tags but you cropped the mention of it out. This is the video that made me read Orientalism:

Anyways Patricia Tannis may be the world's first banditist and I am unsure if that's good or not.

I want thank ALL of the lovely people for their kind birthday wishes for me today on my 60th birthday.
I am the luckiest man in the world. I have a wonderful partner in life, my beautiful wife Patricia and three lovely daughters; Elle, Miranda and Madeline.
Today, I am reminded of what Dr. M Scott Peck told me over 30 years ago: At 40, you feel like you can conquer the world and there’s a sense that nothing can stop you.
But at 60 you realize the very real fragility of life and temporariness of it all. A humbling knowledge that there is indeed a time limit for all things and that God’s design though perfect, is precious far beyond its brevity.
Today, I am also reminded of the Hindu story that my friend Bill from Lowell Arkansas told me about a man at his funeral. Looking at the man, “Would this man lying here ask for more riches and Gold from the world? Would this man ask to be more famous and well regarded by others? Would he ask to be taller or look more handsome? No. The only thing this man lying here today would ask for was much simpler…more time.”
If you are reading this now, then you too have time! Use it wisely, use it unwisely too! But USE it. Be IN it. Be aware that you are part of ALL of it and that the separateness you sometimes feel is an illusion. Just as your heart beats without being told, you are as integral to the Sun that fires and the planets that circle it as your heart is a part of you.
For the atheists, God loves you too. The mistake you make is to think the universe is a stupid thing that just bumps into things and expands ignorantly and without reason or intelligence. And that somehow we human beings, with our intelligence is just some kind of ‘freak’ universal accident. To you I say this, if there is such a thing as kindness, empathy, compassion and love…it is because you found it in other people.
And as my dear friend Norm Macdonald once said, “We are part of this universe, indeed a mere fraction of it, so if we have kindness and love, how much more the universe itself.” For if we are capable of love, it is because it is endemic to the universe itself.
To quote Alan Watts, “For we didn’t come ‘in’ to the world, we came ‘out’ of it. We are the universe evolving to the point of consciousness, so that the universe, us, can experience existence and life in all it’s wonder and beauty and glorious exuberance.”
Lastly, as I am a new convert to Catholicism, I offer my apology for my lack of Christ’s forgiveness to my fellow man. I was so angry at the people who shut down schools and indeed the world and who coerced others to do things against their will which hurt many people deeply. I offer my unconditional forgiveness and amnesty.
For how can I stay mad at the famous singer who would not let others in to his Broadway show unless they had an experiential jab. I will never forget how kind he was to me and my friends when he was the musical guest on SNL.
How can I continue to hold a grudge against the actor who shamed people like me but has been such a great example for other actors to never give up and keep fighting for their dreams.
How can I still be mad at the lovely actress that said she could no longer be friends with people like me who didn’t ‘get’ it, knowing how incredibly kind she is with every child she meets.
I am humbled by the example of my mother Pilar and how she was able to forgive the WW2 occupiers of her Philippines who killed both her brothers.
At last it is forgiveness itself that is the gift that we give ourselves because it frees us as The Christ intends for all of us to be free. For His gift of ultimate and unlimited forgiveness is indeed the gift for all humanity.
May God bless you and your families now and forever.
With all my “You can do it” love, Robbie Schneider

New winplan au: Winplantasy (edited)
I constantly thought about what they would look like and act like if they were in a fantasy/action/ seinen au. So the au is basically the original but in a fantasy setting.
I might make a whole new blog based of this au since there’s so much I want to share about this
Wincel hasn’t really gave us antagonists other that Sols mother and brother. Which is kinda why I made the stars the villains
Many of the dynamics are the same, the main difference being everyone’s relationship with Sol, especially earth (still deciding on if their fling would happen and how it would’ve worked out, regardless, they would eventually hate each other) and Venus and Earths relationship with Pluto(complicated). Most of the ages are the same however all the stars (including sol) are like 150+ years for a curtain reason I won’t mention here. Also everyone dead in the canon universe will be dead in this au cough cough earth and moons parents
Finally a few of trigger warnings which are all things mentioned in the planet humans website as well as
depictions of blood and violence and can be described as graphic
Class discrimination, Corruption and segregation
most importantly character death (like lots of death)
Order of post

Other Peers:
Isa Mru, an Afro Asian Pasifika who's a South Asian Bangladesh and Micronesian Chamorro Guahan Indigenous Pasifika woman of color. She was the lieutenant commander of a frigate and corvette spaceship. She was the commander of a destroyer and cruiser. Isa is a captain of a battlecruiser and battleship capital ship. She is later fleet admiral of a dreadnought and flagship.
Chanya Waukau. Afro Asian Native. She is Afro Caribbean. She’s Haitian. She is Southeast Asian Laotian. She is a Menominee Indigenous woc. She is trans. She is two spirit Indigenous third gender. She is nonbinary bi-gender. She is bisexual/pansexual. She is 5’9. She is 135 pounds. She has light based powers and force field powers. She controls light and can make hard light based constructs for defense and offense. She’s a base human bionic and cyborg with bionic enhancements and cybernetic implants. She is an ex of the Asian Pasifika demigod and Afro Latine Native alien hybrid main character. They have kids together. She is a peer of his/her/them.
Later on The Asian Pasifika demigod and Afro Latine Native alien hybrid main character waged a civil war against another leader of the alliance of bipoc and qtipoc superheroes. Probably intrigue machinations from a supervillain organization or faction. Trying to fan embers for war for profit or to wedge the heroes apart. The intergalactic war attracts humanoids organizations and factions across timelines, realms, realities, dimensions, and universes of their multiverse to fight. Supervillains, antiheroes, and superheroes from everywhere join with or without allegiance to either of them.
Enemies:
European demigod Lucas Bartholomew Chamberlain
Lucas Bartholomew Chamberlain. He is a cishet male. He is white and non-native. He is European. Lucas was an attempt to Americanize and Earth centric himself as a politician of the Terran political system. He is able bodied, allistic, & neurotypical. He is 5′11”. He has blonde hair and blue eyes. He has a crew cut hair style. He has a lean and athletic body type. He is 160 pounds. He is Roman Catholic.
He speaks Swedish, English, German, Arabic, Spanish, & French. He is conservative and alt right. He is upper class rich. He is an intergalactic scientist, inventor, & engineer. He has a masters in biomedical engineering and PHD in xeno biology. He went to college off planet to Ivy League University on the planet Titan. He played high school varsity baseball and men’s collegiate football. He comes from a super wealthy family that owns various iron and diamond mines and refineries across the galaxy. They mine asteroids and comets in space for space ore as well. The parents are still alive but both were only children. He is also an only child. He has holographic military tattoos of the Earth and Terran Dominion military as a Earth Space Marine Corps veteran. He has holographic military tattoos on his forearms.
He is a former super soldier. He was an officer in the Earth and Terran Dominion military. He was a colonel. He is a scientist, inventor, & engineer. He built weapons and tech for the Earth and Terran Confederation. A lot of the superweapons the Earth and Terran Dominion used for their war crimes were built by him. Like the Star Crusher a weapon that doomed the entire Regulus System to be vaporized by a supernova. To show the universe the might of the Earth and Terran Dominion military. It is why the Sol Vega and Polaris System all surrendered overnight. After seeing only a tear in the fabric of space was left. The screams of billions wiped out in an act of intergalactic genocide can still be heard across space and time. He is an intergalactic politician. He is a politician who is a remnant of the Earth government and Terran Confederation government as a former senator of the Earth High Command representing the United States.
He views humans as weak. He hates that he is half human. He joins the super soldier program for this reason. To get rid of what he deems as human weakness. It is why he marries Daphne, a superhuman with bionic enhancements and cybernetic implants. He is a former superhero. He has delusions of grandeur. He is a megalomaniac.
He is a supervillain, antihero, & anti-villain whichever serves him best. He has no allegiance to anyone or anything but himself. This personality was made worse when he found out that he is a demigod. He is a metahuman with superhuman: strength, speed, durability, & intelligence. The queer and trans Asian Pasifika and Latine Native superhero Kana’i Makoa Latu/Ataahua Kamalani Latu is his archenemy and rival. He/she/they is his arch enemy as he/she/they and Joanna Jacobson exposed him for who he truly was.
Lucas Bartholomew Chamberlain is a former disgraced member of the superhero conglomerate Sentinels. He uses his background as a scientist, inventor, & engineer. He/she/they are a metamorph, changeling, & shapeshifter as an alien hybrid and a water elemental as a demigod.
He is a demigod child of a European goddess of death. He has power over fire and decaying things. Powers he used to his advantage when conquering planets for the settler colonizer regime. He also uses forbidden dark magic against him/her/them in their battles. When he uses the power of death his eyes blaze jade. When he uses the power of fire his hand burn crimson. He wears divine armor as a demigod. The divine armor has a long red gaudy and pretentious cape. His armor is red, black, & gold. He wears a black domino mask and green face mask. In his demigod form his short hair turns into a short dutch braid.
Lucas as a former politician was the mastermind behind many of the actions of the Earth and the Terran Confederation. He used his power, influence, control, & power to hurt people. So many of the cruel actions that Earth and the Terran Confederation did with their colonialism, imperialism, neocolonialism, & occupation was passed by him as a politician behind the scenes. Lucas as an inventor, scientist, & engineer in the shadows built many of the weapons that Earth and the Terran Confederation used to maintain their hegemony and dominion. He was one of the leaders of the Forces of Evil. He left them when they no longer served his goals.
American Caucasian alien hybrid Charlotte Anderson
Charlotte Anderson one of the rivals enemies and foils of the Asian Pasifika and Afro Latine Native demigod and alien hybrid main character Kanai Makoa Latu/Attahua Kamalani Latu. Charlotte Anderson is a cishet female. She is an allistic neurotypical and able bodied. She is white non native and American Caucasian. She is a metahuman and superhuman. She is an alien hybrid. She is 6’3”. She has long and medium hairstyles of Dutch and French braids. She has hairstyles of medium and long ponytails. She has green eyes and a redhead. She is an atheist. She has older and younger siblings.
She is a democrat and white liberal. She speaks English, Chinese, French, Japanese, Spanish, Portuguese, German, & Arabic. She is old money. Her family comes from American, Earth, & Terran dominion and hegemony. She’s a former super soldier. She is a metahuman. She loves being an alien hybrid. She hates humans. She is distrusting of demigods. She went to the Ivy League in Mercury. She is a doctor and surgeon. She has bionic and cybernetic implants and enhancements.
She was the one who experimented on them as a metahuman and superhuman. She was the one who turned them into a super soldier. She was the one who ordered the metahuman and superhuman traffickers to take them as a demigod and alien hybrid child. She was the one who originally implanted the bionic and cybernetic implants into them. She is the one who created the first, second, third generation of super soldiers during WW3 with other doctors, inventors, scientists, & engineers for America, England, Canada, & Australia. She later created the 4, 5, 6 gen super soldiers for the Alien Human Contact War. She was the one who created the 7, 8, 9 generation super soldiers for the Earth Hegemony and Terran Empire and its colonies and territories several star systems and a few galaxies.

Clones:
The Asian Pasifika demigod and Afro Latine Native alien hybrid main character because of the super soldier program, metahuman and superhuman experimentation, and bionic and cybernetic enhancement has several genetic clones.
Relatives:
Father: Asian Pasifika Akio Kato or Puleleiite Kaimana Latu. He is a mixed East Asian Chinese, East Asian Japanese, American Caucasian, & European British Asian person of color. He is a Polynesian Hawaiian, Tongan, Marquesan, & Samoan Indigenous Pasifika.
He is trans and afab. He is nonbinary bigender pansexual. He is polyamorous. He is mahu, fakaleiti, or fafafine indigenous pasifika third gender.
He has several other partners in his polyamorous relationship with his wife. He has relationships with people of color. He has relationship with indigenous people.
The demigod powers of the Asian demigod father are he has elemental powers. Specifically more powerful fusion elemental powers like electric/lightning fire/magma manipulation, ice/water lighting/electric manipulation, acid/poison fire manipulation, shadow ice manipulation, light darkness manipulation, ice fire manipulation, lightning earth manipulation, ice earth manipulation, and fire/magma ice/water manipulation.
This is in part to having more time to train his demigod powers. For the Asian Pasifika demigod dad the reason he knows fusion elemental powers is cuz he has a more personal relationship with the other gods, goddesses, and demigods of the oceanic pantheon from across Polynesian diaspora. Which is why the deities know about his child but are still training him/her/them. Unlike their father who is already done with training having been born in the 21st century or before as a New Age demigod now god.
Other than his Afro Latine Native alien hybrid wife. He is in a relationship with a Micronesian Pohnpeian Indigenous Pasifika woman named Lihen Etse. He is in a relationship with a Melanesian Papuan Indigenous Pasifika man named Yasa Kui. He is in a relationship with an Australian Aboriginal woman named Aleah Jurrah. He is in a relationship with an Arctic Native Inuit Indigenous woman named Anirniq Irqittuq. He is in a relationship with a Nahuatl Indigenous man named Ilhuitl Cuauhtli. He is in a relationship with Charlotte Akiwenzie, a Ojibwe French Métis woman. He is in a relationship with Tahlako Ashalintubbi an Afro Indigenous Choctaw Freedman Black Native man. He is in a relationship with Nikan Wesaw, a Potawatomi Anishinaabe Indigenous man.
Mother: Afro Latine Native Maria Lorena Garcia Ochoa, Marie Gabrielle Smith, or alien name Maaela Kayuth Adrjin.
She is an Afro Latine Native from South America and an alien hybrid. She is Afro Colombian, Bolivian, Argentine, & Chilean. She is South American Baniwha and Embera Indigenous of Colombia. She is Chorote Indigenous of Bolivia and Argentina.
She is polyamorous. She is trans nonbinary genderfluid pansexual. She is Indigenous third gender of South America.
She has several other partners in her polyamorous relationship with her husband. She has relationships with people of color. She has relationships with Indigenous people.
She as an alien hybrid mutant has the power of skin hardening or skin reinforcement that is capable of hardening their skin. Thereby increasing her innate defensive and/or offensive capabilities. Her skin that turns blue and metallic becomes harder than diamonds. She becomes fireproof and bulletproof.
She also has the power of organic purple metallic armor. She has the ability to grow purple organic metal skin. She has skin with organic cells that have metallic properties. She has organic bio metal that is nigh indestructible in this form. The user has a body with an organic metal skin that can resist almost any attack. She trades regular skin for organic metal skin so it is possible for her to obtain immortality.
She has the ability to have skin manipulation with elastic skin. There is a time limit of several minutes. Her skin while elastic turns green. It is for evasion purposes in emergency situations if the skin hardening or metal skin can’t handle what it’s fighting or negates or skin armor abilities.
Her true alien form has several eyes. So she has optic blasts like cyclops Superman or darkseid. Her optic blasts from her two primary eyes are blue or sapphire. Her optic blasts from her main two eyes she uses to see are one directional like Superman or Cyclops and are more concentrated and focused. Her optic blasts from her other eyes are omnidirectional like darkseid. These optic blasts are not as accurate. These optic blasts are red.
Her true alien form has several eyes. She uses two to see. The other two or three eyes are more supportive or extra sensory. Letting her see throughout the electromagnetic spectrum. Like uv, x ray, or heat vision. Think of it like the eyes of a spider or any multi eyed organism.
His/her/their alien hybrid mother and alien hybrid aunts and uncles as mutants received their mutant powers through temporal, esoteric, spacial, chaos, quantum, dimensional, or reality mutations.
Other than her Asian Pasifika demigod husband. She is in a relationship with a Maya Indigenous man named Hun-Ahau Kuyoc. She is in a relationship with an Osage Indigenous woman named Asinka Mashunkashey. She is in a relationship with an Arctic Native Aleut Indigenous man named Hlakuchaa Merculief. She is in a relationship with Moerani Ioane a Southeast Asian Vietnamese, East Asian Chinese, a European French, Polynesian Tahitian and Marquesan Indigenous Pasifika Asian Pasifika woman. My Journey (Fashion Design)
I'm obsessed with fashion, please let me know if there's a 101 class, blog or something else cause I want to know more! Keep learning...
So far what I've been doing it's:
* Learn how to draw (actually taking classes and I'm currently an art student)
* Reading books 📚 about the topic (if you all want me to come up with some titles I'll make it happen, just let me know in the comments) but here are some for now:
♡ The Sewing Bible by Ruth Singer
♡ Overdressed: The Shockingly High Cost of Cheap Fashion by Elizabeth L. Cline
♡ Fashion Design: The Complete Guide by John Hopkins
♡ So you want to Work in Fashion?: How to Break into the World of Fashion and Design (Be What You Want) by Patricia Wooster
♡ Trash to Trend (a doctoral thesis, Estonian Academy of Arts)
♡ Patternmaking for Fashion Design
♡ Sewing for Fashion Designers by Annette Fischer
♡ Atlas of Fashion Designers by Laura Ecceiza.
(I have more of course, but the list is quite long.)
* Downloading some apps (Vogue Runway happened to be so interesting!)
* Learn how to draw online thanks to several YouTubers + downloading some drawing apps
I still suck, but I'll get better!
* Listening a lot of music
* Learn some psychology and color analysis
* Read books that have nothing to do with it such as novels, because that makes my heart flutter and my mind gets creative. Sometimes I even try to draw something that some of the characters might be wearing...
* Bought myself a sewing machine
* I'm trying to have enough patience to figure out how to use it (thanks again YouTubers, for making my life so easy 😭🤧)
* Acknowledging how fashion industry especially fast fashion is contaminating our planet (check out this blog!) and trying to figure out the way to start with sewing but I'm too intimidated by it rn 😭💀
* Studying how to re-do my portfolio, (because thank you internet for existing!)
* Studying make up on my own and learning some of the basics of cosmetology, because that's another passion of mine.
* Studying business and fashion marketing
* Realizing that technology is advancing so fast, nowadays there's even sprays that can create dresses or AI combining with holograms that will make our life as designers a bit more easy when choosing a fabric. But they can also put everything at risk if there's nothing to protect us as humans that create these beautiful clothes we use every day.
Keep in mind that I'm a self taught student. Sometimes I take classes to cover certain aspects but I don't think I am an expert at all in the field. If you have a recommendation, a comment or something you want to share to help me with my path I would really appreciate the feedback.
I'm currently looking for YouTubers that help me covering the basics of sewing and learning about fabrics, especially about fabrics! I'll keep y'all posted.<3

She Said (2022, dir. Maria Schrader) - review by Rookie-Critic
She Said was a very well done, if not at times clinical, re-telling of one of the most important moments in modern equal rights history. Following the story of Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey's groundbreaking article on the atrocities of ex-Miramax head Harvey Weinstein, She Said follows in the footsteps of films like All the President's Men and The Post (the latter of which I will admit I have not seen) as a movie showing the challenges of getting the truth out there no matter the cost, and I found it to be incredibly well done. Zoe Kazan and Carey Mulligan (to no one's surprise) are absolutely dynamite as the leading duo, each bringing a unique perspective on the story at hand. This wasn't just a story for them, it was personal, as it probably is to every woman on the face of the planet that's ever had a male superior in the workplace.
The movie hits when it needs to, is reserved when it should be, and allows its central duo to breathe and have a life of their own outside of just being the vehicles for truth in this story. It works so well because of this fact; it was so important to portray Kantor and Twohey not just as journalists, but as humans themselves, as women themselves, women who understand the weight of what they were on the brink of uncovering, and what it could mean not only for the film industry, but for the way women are treated in the workplace at large. As the film points out several times, this goes so much deeper than the film industry and is not just about Weinstein, but about the system protecting the abusers and not the abused. Shoutouts also have to go to Jennifer Ehle, Samantha Morton, and Angela Yeoh, who played Laura Madden, Zelda Perkins, and Rowena Chu, who are just a few of the women who suffered at the hands of Harvey Weinstein. Patricia Clarkson and Andre Braugher also deserve praise for their performances as Rebecca Corbett and Dean Baquet, the assistant editor and executive editor at the New York Times who oversaw the production of the Weinstein piece.
If I had one criticism of the film, it's that, for all of its very effective pathos and ethos, the film tends to be quite cold when it comes to the journalistic side of things. Portraying the profession itself as something that is harshly non-emotive, which I can definitely see the argument that it needs to be, and ultimately that's not quite what the focus of the film is on, so it feels like a nitpick. Even with that one small complaint, She Said surprised me in being better than expected and making me feel something other than anger, which I of course still felt a lot of.
Score: 9/10
