It had been a couple of months since the second happiest day in James’ life so far (the happiest being when he fostered Marigold of course); the day that after a bit of snogging, an embarrassing moment of his foster-daughter witnessing said snogging, laughing it off, said foster-daughter running back to bed and finally said snogging resuming. 

The day that he caught Lily Evans doing the most adorable happy dance after she left his house.

The day Lily Evans became his girlfriend.

You loved your parents: James and Lily Potter and loved spending time with them. This time however, you went there to get away from your problems and to get help from them. Earlier in the day, you got what would’ve seemed like a normal text to anyone else:

Hey, what’s going on?

However, it was from someone who was connected to your ex. Someone who when the breakup happened, didn’t check on you, even though you tried to reach out.

Because of this, it made your insecurities and feelings of worthlessness come back. You spent the rest of that day crying, when you got a call from your dad, “Hi sweetie!”

You sniffled and used a quieter voice than you normally would, your voice breaking, “hi daddy. How are you and mum?”

“We’re good,” he responded a little quieter to match your tone. “Are you ok? You sound like you’ve been crying. Do you want us to come over?”

“I…I’m not alright. I got a message before from someone and it just triggered me.”

“Sweetie, I’m coming to get you. Pack a bag, you can spend the weekend with us until you feel better.”

“Alright. See you soon.”

“You can talk to us when you’re here. I’ll see you soon. I love you.”

“Love you too, dad.” With that being said, you hung up the phone and got a bag. You were still crying, but at least you had something to try to focus on.

By the time you had finished packing what you would need, your dad arrived and knocked on the door.

When you opened the door, there stood James Potter, your dad, the man you could always trust to make you feel better.

You smiled and launched yourself into his arms, even though you saw and talked to him frequently; you just felt like you needed one of his hugs right now.

Now, you were in your parents house, and you explained the whole situation, that the person who contacted you was someone connected to your abusive and manipulative ex. It brought up all the bad feelings you had when you broke up with them. You explained that they didn’t bother seeing if you were ok at the time even though you did try talking to them.

“I don’t know what to do,” you finished. “It makes me feel like I did after the breakup, just hurt and broken.”

“Sweetheart,” your mother, Lily said. “Come here.”

You got up and moved over to them. They engulfed you in the biggest hug ever, and you could feel all the love they had for you in it.

James kissed the top of your head, “you deserved so much better than her. You deserve the world, someone who’ll treat you with so much love and will never make you question your self worth.”

“You did the right thing, breaking up with her,” Lily pulled back from the hug as she said this, getting you to look her in the eye. “I’m so proud of you for coming as far as you have.”

“We both are. So, so proud, sweetie,” James told you, hugging you a little tighter for an instant. “You should never feel bad or guilty about putting yourself and your mental health first. If you need to, you should cut this person off as well.”

You pulled back and your dad put his hand on your cheek. You smiled as you leaned into his hand. “My beautiful child, you deserve so much.” He kissed your forehead, before pulling you back to him. “What do you want to do today? We could just stay here or we could go flying, and I know your mum wants to do something to surprise you and hopefully make you feel better.”

You pulled away slightly and looked at Lily. “Is that right, mum?”, you asked quietly. “Dad and I can go flying while you set it up. Then we can all just spend time together.

“I’ll set it up,” she told you as she got up. “Go have fun flying with your dad.”

“Thanks, mumma,” you smiled at her before you looked back at James. “Dad, can we fly now?”

“Of course, sweetie,” he responded, as he got up. You followed him and spent the next hour and a half flying with him, before going back to the ground. It was the best you’d felt in ages.

Once on the ground, he took your broom so he could put it away with his, before the two of you walked inside to find a giant fort in the living room.

“What do you think? I finished setting up your surprise for tomorrow, and had a little extra time,” Lily told the two of you. “So instead of bringing you in early, I decided to set this up for us.” She paused. “I even made some food for us too.”

That was how you spent the rest of the day, just spending the day with your parents who reminded you how loved you were and how happy you were without your ex.

You stayed the night in your old room and slept better than you thought you would, but you had guessed it was because you were exhausted after all the fun you and your parents had together. It was also because you didn’t feel as bad anymore, you actually felt happy. You knew that you were loved. Your ex and her friends couldn’t take that away from you.

Based on what I know, I do not think Sirius and Regulus were even taught being gay was possible. I think Walburga/Orion refused to teach them it even exists. So I imagine them finding out like this:

Sirius: Yeah, if I was a girl I would probably date Remus to be honest. Such a shame it’s impossible for me to like him.

James: Impossible? What do you mean??

Sirius: Well you can only like people of the opposite gender.. right?

James: …No, you can like people of the same gender, that exists. It’s a thing.

Sirius: ( °ㅁ°)

Fleamont Potter who makes a plan the day he takes in Sirius Black as his own son in 1975.

Fleamont Potter who waits until James makes Regulus his son-in-law to make a heartwarming “father-of-both-grooms” speech at their wedding reception.

Fleamont Potter who leaves said wedding reception to go find Orion Black in his swanky members-only billiards hall—saying:

“Hello, my name is Fleamont Potter. You abused my kids, Sirius & Regulus. They’re fine now, but the same can’t be said for you.”

& then breaks Orion’s kneecap in with his own pool cue.

Regulus sneaks off to the Potters to give Sirius a secret Christmas gift and gets caught by Sirius and James who convince him to stay a bit longer, and every time Regulus is like, "I have to go" and Sirius is like, "It's Christmas Reg, cmon just a little longer, you can say that I dragged you here against your will or whatever, just stay a little for a bit longer." And Regulus, being loki helpless against his older brother, just agrees. And he begins to bond with everyone.

Eventually, Regulus accidentally stays the rest of the day and when he gets ready to finally leave, Effie is like, "Would you like to stay the night? It's quite late" and Monty just straight up says, "Would you like to stay forever?"

And that's how Regulus ran away. (Accidentally)

“Prongs, it’s Mum. You-you need to get down here now.”

“What? She was fine when I left-”

“I know James, but… she’s deteriorated rapidly. They’re not sure how long she has left.”

A strangled sound came out of his mouth. 

“James? Are you still with me?” 

“Yeah. I’m coming back now. 20 minutes tops. Please tell her I’m coming.”

“I will.”

That was the night that he shattered.

You’d been adopted by the Potters a while back: Lily and James, and while you loved that they’d took you in, you always worried they’d abandon you or hurt you, just as your biological parents did.

They were kind and loving which you were getting used to and they knew this.

Tonight, however was one of the bad nights. It was a dark and stormy night with thunder and lightning. It was terrifying to you, so many loud noises.

BANG!

You covered your ears as you started crying, it reminded you of when your father would come home drunk and slam the doors. In fact, that’s where your mind went, it took you back to then and with each crash of thunder it just got worse.

You don’t know when it happened, but you heard someone nearby calling out. It didn’t sound like your father or your mother. No, this voice sounded kind, and calm, and gentle. So you moved your hands from your ears and looked up. It was James and Lily.

“It’s alright,” James said as he got closer. “You’re safe now. I won’t let anything hurt you.” He crouched down beside you lifting his hand up to wipe your eyes. “Would it be ok if I hugged you?”

You burst into tears and nodded. They both sat with you and hugged you as the storm carried on, but now you felt safe and protected.

“It’s alright, love,” Lily whispered before kissing the side of your head. “We’ve got you.”

You smiled as you leaned against them. As you yawned, you said without thinking about it, “thanks mum! Thanks dad!”

Regulus: I’m stretched a little thin today, so I need you to do the grocery shopping, check in on the kids and maybe clean up those branches in the front garden.

James: Done and done!

Regulus: Is that an expression or did you only remember two of the things I said?

James:

James: …The second.
