I used to get an arguments on facebook and it bit me in the ass enormously because it turns out that when you get an arguments on facebook habitually, you'll be interacting with a lot of other people who get an arguments on facebook habitually, and most of these people are deeply unpleasant and they will be super mean to you in really fucked up ways. so for a couple of years I just sort of dropped off ever interacting with anyone who said things that I did not agree with. I would just scroll past stuff or I would get upset about it privately and move on. I did not ever engage. and the last couple of weeks I've started being able to say things in response to things I don't agree with in ways that I feel lay out what my perspective is but do not get overly invested in "winning" or "proving" anything -- I will say my piece generally for the benefit of other people who might be reading the conversation and need to hear what I have to say. and then I will turn notifications off and go do something else.
anyway. wow. y'all heard about this? pretty cool shit.
#a friend of mine posted on her facebook page about the importance of pain management in dog behavioral problems#and some lady came in and started gnashing her teeth about pill popping and the opiate epidemic and 'masking pain'#and she was using her experience as someone who experiences chronic pain and who refuses to ever treat it.#as like a gotcha. I was just like I'm really sorry that you feel the need to deny yourself pain relief.#here is the scientific medical information that we have about the effect of untreated pain on the brain and the neurological system#here is information about how detrimental untreated pain is to the well-being of any organism#I think it would behoove you to look into some of the recent studies about this!#have a good day!#meanwhile she is like telling everyone to go screw themselves#which kinda proves my friend's point about untreated pain having a behavioral effect. ironically.#anyway

I made my post about Dean Highbottom and then as I was writing my tags realised that his Hunger Games counterpart is Haymitch. and now my head is in my hands and I don’t think I’ll ever recover
#IM GOING TO CRY. I am part of the system I never wanted anything to do with it#I killed so many people without laying a hand on them. I never ever asked for this. I tried to say no. my hands are still bloody.#both turned to drugs to cope. both had a mentee who reminded them of someone they hated so much#(snow reminded the dean of his old friend. katniss reminded haymitch of himself)#both knew exactly how the games worked and all of its consequences because one made it and the other lived it#both lived in the shadows of the past and never really got out from it#but in the end one of them chose to be cruel to the children who they were asked to mentor#and the other loved even when it was killing him#god. twenty three years and they never managed to drown the fire out of him. his heart broke again and again#but he held onto those shards even as they made his hands bleed. and then one day two children appeared and pieced it back together#and some of it was missing and always would be. you can’t undo twenty three years of alcoholism and pain and grief and self loathing#but a lot of it was still there. far more than he ever even believed could have survived#Haymitch I love youuuuuuuuu I will always love you#and Dean Highbottom you were kinda cringe and lame. guynobody ass bitch. do better#haymitch abernathy#dean highbottom#thg#the hunger games#a ballad of songbirds and snakes#abosas

two tries on two separate days and i STILL can't get ahold of the new endocrinologist's new patient scheduling assistant argh. hopefully they actually call me back this time. on the bright side i did manage to get through to billing (despite their horrible phone tree and even more horrible connection, it sounded like they were speaking through a frayed wire) and get them to update my insurance information and actually bill my insurance for my recent telehealth visit bc there was no way in hell i was gonna pay their upfront unadjusted cost for a thirty minute zoom call with my pcp without them at least TRYING to ping my insurance first
#oh the wonders and joys of the american healthcare system#and i'm lucky bc i have reasonably decent coverage through my parents still too#but. boy i sure do have medical expenses...#anyway they never billed my insurance in the first place because they never updated to my new policy?#despite me entering it like. twice?? since then?#whatever . as long as they do it now#a telehealth visit SHOULD be covered. at least partially. i sure hope so bc i have to do another one next month#i understand being charged for the telehealth visit i really do. especially considering i got two referrals and two prescriptions out of it#but still. this is why i HAVE insurance...use it please#anyway now i'm hoping insurance will cough up a good portion of that billing statement#and that endocrinology will actually call me back and let me schedule a new patient visit.#because i am TIRED! of my old endocrinologist#they're not bad but i'm tired of every visit for three years hearing the same thing and seeing nothing change#and because they're in a different state from where i currently live it makes getting lab results back a right pain in the ass.#so i'd like to swap providers. and it'll be easier to manage if they're in the same system as my pcp which is what i'm trying to do...#i wanna talk about me

Sometimes I feel like a centuries old robot in a scifi movie
The one that has to turn itself on every morning over the course of an hour, slowly waiting for access to each limb, waiting for the energy to just move
When it finally forces itself up it has to go through the routine of preparing for the day. Making sure it looks a little better, hiding all its rust spots best it can
By then it's battery is already back down to 75%
On a good day
On a bad day that might just take it out again, and it needs to restart the whole process
When it goes out, it tries to hide it. Pretends to be the latest model, maybe it's an alternate model from some niche production line, that's why it walks a little funny, talks a little different, processes things weird sometimes.
Maybe the robot itself can't feel pain, but everything it knows about it, everything it's learned, the robot knows that the pain it would feel would incapacitate a human. Maybe even other robots
It's good at hiding. It does it's best
But there are days when it's so clear. It's so obvious. That robot is different
Not everyone assumes it's old, the robot looks fairly young so it couldn't be old. Maybe it's broken. Or just lazy. Or faulty. Regardless
There is something wrong with it
It gets pitied looks, it gets yelled at, it gets dismissed.
And then at the end of the day if it's lucky, it has just enough battery left over to do something it enjoys for a few minutes
Then finally, with whatever small amount it has left, it plugs itself back in to recharge for the night. Each night it desperately hopes the next day will be easier, that maybe its waking up process will be easier, maybe its battery will last longer. Maybe it'll get some extra energy while it's out and be able to do more
It's all just fantasies of course. The longer it exists the harder things get for it. The longer it tries the more it wants to give up
The world doesn't have a use for an old broken robot body
But it's the only one he's got, so he has to make it work.
#the unholy system#chronic pain#chronic illness#austim#mental illness#robotkin#maybe#idfk at this point#im so tired all the time#i called into work today because i spent all of my day off in bed#and i couldnt get up this morning either#ive been awak since 8am#its 2pm now and im only just managing to sit up#and now im trying to get the energy to stand so i can go to the bathroom

i always say im able-bodied bc i feel like it best describes my General Lived Experience but i do have that like. thing in my legs where if i walk briskly for some distance (like 500 meters) i get this crushing pain in my whole lower legs which gets worse and worse if i keep walking until i eventually have to sit down for a few minutes and wait for it to go away. which im still trying to get diagnosed bc so far artery scans and muscle ultrasounds render nothing. and ngl it is like, an issue often enough and is a pretty bothersome thing when it happens (like not only bc its extremely painful but also having to find some place to sit down in the middle of the street and having to stay there a while isnt awesome) so im not entirely sure "able-bodied" fully describes me but i also am not sure its a disability bc we dont know wtf it is. so i guess im kind of in a weird inbetween where i err on the side of just assuming its not a disability and its just like, an annoying body thing..
#97#i guess if it happened every single day or something i would probably feel more confident identifying it as like....#idk some type of disability or at least something worth integrating into my definition of my general health#and ensuing relationship to my body to the medical system etc etc#but bc it only happens when i walk briskly for a bit and i dont even go out for a walk every day it doesnt feel worth mentioning#anyway ive had this since 2019 or 2018 lol but the first round of attempted diagnosing i gave up early#and for a few years i just ignored it which is easier when i dont get out a lot anyway#but im currently in the process of attempting to figure out what it is again..#by september ill know if its compartment syndrome which has been brought up but is apparently unlikely#thats the last exam were doing so. if its not that then ngl idk what the next options are#bc this was everything my doctor could think of to explain it#another thing abt it not being diagnosed and not clearly being a disability is i dont dare ask for a seat in public when i need one lol#which has been an issue a few times where every seat is taken but i REALLY need to sit to stop the pain#if i could say 'excuse me i have (x thing) i really need a seat' id maybe dare to ask#but i dont manage to just be like 'hey could i get a seat my legs hurt' lol

Praiser, advocate, understudy and pain manager
DID/OSDD ALTER TERMS Praiser
An alter that tends to fit in the caretaker archetype, they will prioritise praising alters and rewarding them when they’ve done good, usually they form due to a lack of praise/support growing up
Coined by: The unconscious
Advocate
type of protector but more intense. Will front and/or take charge of any and all situations where the systems needs are being overlooked or used against the system. Will often use words to stand up for the system and keep off others who may be attempting to bring harm to the system
Coined by: BiblioHalls
Understudy
An understudy is an alter that will take over fronting duties whenever others won’t or are unable to front. They are attached to the front and will often be close to the front at all times. Like a host, they find it very easy to switch into main front and unlike other alters, they enjoy and often prefer to be in front
Coined by: BiblioHalls
Pain manager
Please do not use this term if you are not Traumagenic, as the coiner has asked endogenic, tulpa and demo systems not to use it
Coined by: BiblioHalls DNI NON-TRAUMAGENIC (NO ENDOS/DEMOS/TULPAS)

#in terms of euphoria and anxiolysis this is equivalent to the barbiturate i got prescribed for migraines. which.#granted i drained the bottle in a few days but#STILL.#i feel like i deserve to choose between severe ending pain that makes me near housebound and stuck in this recliner all day#and potential addiction#like i feel like i should have that choice#especially since they're coming out with more treatments and safety measures for opioid addiction#ALSO especially because denying me adequate pain management is leading me to abuse other shit in ways that have nearly Killed Me#fuck the medical system so hard#fuck#julian rants#opioids tw#drugs tw

One of the issues I have designing encounters in 5e is that monster damage increases way faster than monster health, leading to an issue where if I go by CR I'm throwing a monster at the party that can possibly take down a player character in a single turn but that will ultimately be dispatched in two, maybe three rounds, before I even get to do anything super cool with it (also this one is on me, but wow do all monsters need at least one ranged option because if you don't have one it's pretty easy to get stuck in a place where you can't do anything). This becomes an even bigger problem when because of items or strategic thinking or just the general shittiness of the CR system your party is pretty good at punching above their weight CR-wise. Then things get really dangerous, because like I said damage escalates waaay faster and it's very easy to pull something that'll take multiple characters down in one turn. That gives me a really narrow line to walk if I want to set up an encounter that's challenging, risky, and fun, but also not something where I get one good round in and send them all to the shadow realm. I'm not necessarily opposed to killing player characters, I just don't want it to be a tpk because I (in my relative newness to dming) accidentally gave them way more than they could ever handle. It's one thing to kill a party with competence, it's another to kill them via incompetence. I think I just need to start home brewing every monster I use (mostly tuning up health and down damage) but I kinda wish I didn't need to do that? It would be great if monsters worked straight out of the box, as it were
#I'm making it work but I wish it took about 50% less effort to actually make it work yknow#I assumed monsters out of the book set up using their systems would be a good and easy match#And they just aren't. Which is inconvenient#Its not killer or anything just a bit annoying#I'm sure other systems handle it better#And yes I know the answer to this is play another system#However I didn't realize how much of an issue this was until I had to be the one managing it!#Your dm usually isn't telling you after an encounter “whoospsies I nearly fucked that one up good”#Or giving you crs for the things you just fought#At least mine haven't in the past#And yeah also some of this is just new dm growing pains I'll own that#I'd heard complaints about the cr system before but I'd never had to sit down and fight with it before#And figure out exactly what the pain point were#Hi players if you see this

honestly. being able to be honest with my loved ones about when i am Mentally Unwell but also Dont Want To Talk About It has done wonders for my mental health
#its nice just being able to tell people “im not okay! please dont focus too much on me tho!” and have them respect it#instead of doing things that will trigger me bc they are uncomfortable w the fact that im not okay#i deeply appreciate others sitting in their discomfort/holding the discomfort with me instead of comforting me#and like i get that ppl who offer space or time or comforts are trying to care for me but tbh its not welcome most of the time#bc when I'm upset often times it triggers deep emotional pain that only i can really manage by taking time to sit and calm down and Feel#(bc if not it becomes a flashback instead of Feelings from being Triggered) and having my attention diverted is actually distressing for me#bc i have to be grounded in very specific ways also that i just dont usually have the energy to explain bc like... i know how to do it?#and like also. i can just be Not okay. it doesnt have to be a Thing for me to acknowledge it#iderk what the point of this tag ramble is#im just like. really glad ive found people who understand that im not Avoidant just bc i have different needs bc of how my nervous system i#also if its not clear: please do not offer comforts for this. i am handling my own feelings and issues i just kinda wanna talk about it#also reminding myself its okay to not want to be comforted and that doesnt mean im Wrong or Bad or Resistant or Harming myself#(also ngl having a therapist who understands that certain coping skills may never go away but can be modified to be more useful is LIFE#CHANGING. DO YOU KNOW HOW FREEING IT WAS TO HEAR SOMEONE WHO ISNT CRAZY SAY “i can see how [these things] can be distressing and if you wan#to stop doing them we can explore new coping skills - AND if the distress from these coping skills is shame related we can work through it#and see what happens and its okay if you come out the other side using the same coping skills with a better understanding of yourself “#when most of my life every coping skill ive ever engaged in has been moralized (esp by therapists) and attempted to be beaten out of me.)#also I'm saying “comfort me” thru this bc even tho it's not actually comforting TO me when ppl do this ik thats usually their intent
