Imagine Michael (raised by a Chinese mother) coming over to Henrietta's house for the first time. Henrietta just walks right on in with her shoes still on but Michael is unlacing his shoes on the floor. Then they're both staring at each other confused. She doesn't understand why Michael is taking off his boots suddenly and Micheal doesn't understand how Henrietta just walks right in with her shoes still on. Michael is even more confused when her Mother isn't yelling at her for walking in with her shoes on. And feels even more confused when Pete and Firkle also don't. Michael explains it's a rule at his house and is genuinely shocked that's not the norm at their homes.

Michael in general feels very confused by how thinks work at Henrietta's house because half the things she does, he would get in serious trouble for doing.

Yesyesyes!!! I think about Michael experiencing (micro?) culture shocks constantly! Michael once gave Pete a gift, and Pete opened it up IN FRONT OF HIM, which to Michael is disrespectful, but to most USAmericans like Pete you're supposed to open the gift in front of the gift giver to show your reaction/gratitude.

I like thinking about the other goths noticing the cultural differences and respecting it. Like getting accustomed to not wearing shoes indoors(/wearing indoor shoes) and gifting things to Michael right as theyre about to leave
