Fanart gave me an idea of a headcanon - When Zuko becomes Fire Lord and Azula is his advisor, Azula will often offer to kill people/manipulate people/go on missions for him. When Zuko finally asks her why this is, she says it’s because that’s the only way she knows how to be useful.
By the way the art that gave me this idea was Cardboardghost on Instagram

I don't get why people want Aang - a 12 year old pacifist, vegetarian monk - to resort to murder to solve his journey. Violence has no place in Aang's characterisation, especially not for a genocide survivor that has had everything taken from him. The show repeatedly proves that violence is never the answer (ie in Jet and Hama), and as it's aimed for children, teaches peaceful resistance over killing (Southern Raiders, amongst other eps).
Aang not killing Ozai isn't a hypocritical manoeuvre. I see people bring up the Fire Nation soldiers dying in the north (S1E20), but they conveniently forget that Aang wasn't himself then. He was in the Avatar state (that he still couldn't control) and merged with the ocean spirit (that was filled with rage, hence why it consumed Aang to become Koizilla). Aang never wanted to kill those soldiers, it's why he has nightmares at the start of S2E1 when they've just left the north. He is scared of what the Avatar State can do, especially when it comes to hurting people. The whole Avatar State episode explains this fear, as well as Aang's inability to control it yet.
Furthermore, so many fans don't understand the moral dilemma Aang is in despite it being very heavily integrated into the last few episodes of S3. The air nomads are pacifists, and Aang as the last air nomad must keep their cultural beliefs alive. If Aang resorts to killing Ozai and blatantly disobeying the teachings that uphold his very identity, then the fire nation succeeded in their genocide.
Because yes, genocide applies to culture just as much as lives. By utilising the power handed by the lion turtle, Aang is able to defeat Ozai and keep his people culturally alive. It's a beautiful moment, a perfect way to start the new era of peace and heal a war torn world.

i am once again thinking of the incredible joy I feel when I imagine historians attempting to document the life of general ‘metal af’ iroh bc that man is historian CATNIP
a master firebender general who was the guiding influence of one of the most inspiring and notable leaders in his nation's history, best known in his lifetime for failing to conquer a city and then in his twilight years going, ‘you know what nah no fire nation here’ and goes back and liberates that city the man is an icon okay historians would dedicate their entire lives to him and we haven't even discussed his involvement with the white lotus, the fact that he invented bending lightning or that one time he got arrested for treason and just spent the entire time getting swole and trying to educate the guards about tea. I mean just picture the conspiracy theories that would surround his tea shop and tell me that doesn't make your day
all anyone would talk about when studying ozai is how he ends his reign by getting smacked up and down the earth kingdom coast like a beach ball by a child pacifist monk like the loser he is until the child gets bored and says ozai's not in charge anymore

atla crack au where zuko and azula burn the palace down as kids (like 12 and 10, respectively, pre-banishment but post-grandpacide), run away to avoid consequences, and somehow end up "discreetly" living in the abandoned fire nation ship in the south pole ("discreetly" is a word which here means "all the adults know they're there bc they have massive arguments every other day, and when hakoda's nearby he "drops" things that might be useful")
ozai ends up blaming the palace fire on iroh and banishes him. he must capture the children to regain his honor (translator's note: this is adult speak for "get their asses back here so i can ground them for the rest of their lives")

CW: assault-r@pe, forced pregnancy, trans-hate, trans-Zuko
Zuko was hated by his father even before he realised he wasn’t a girl. If it hadn’t been for his mother, he would have been killed for being ‘delusional’. It was used against him, of course, people saying he couldn’t be a man because he was so emotional and feminine, but he was also lucky that his father was smart. He was able to conjure lies saying he pretended his oldest child was a girl so he wouldn’t be killed for being the next heir, which people willingly believed because why would they doubt their fire lord?
When Zuko was banished he thought knew what the consequences for coming back without the Avatar would be. He was so sure that Azula told him he could come back he didn’t think further than that.
His biggest mistake.
He was made crown prince again, given love and attention and respect, but of course his father still held plans.
After he returned with his sister, his girlfriend and their friend from ember island, he was taken to dinner with his father. I’m the back of his mind he knew it wasn’t right, that his father hadn’t done such things since his mother left, but the joy and high of being loved was too strong.
His father was not alone as his friend, the General Zomai, was going them. He was a big man with a full beard and wicked eyes, fat and full with muscles hidden under layers of cloth. He never stopped looking at Zuko the entire dinner, and openly called him a girl.
Right as Zuko thought he was going to burn the man to cinders, his stomach turned sick and heavy as he realised what his father had planned.
The guards came and held him instantly and his father patted Zomai on the back, “Welcome to the family, General. I’m sure you are honoured to be the one to make me a grandfather.”
Zuko was not weak, he fought harder than he ever had, but the guards had been taught Ty Lee’s tricks, making it so hard for him to move as his clothes were torn off. He tried to bite and kick and screamed his lungs out, hoping maybe his sister would hear because surely she couldn’t be okay with this? Yet no one came, no family or friends or even a worried servant. Instead he was alone and so very cold as he was held over the table and the sick bastard of a man was touching him-
Zuko wished that him vomiting all over the man’s shoes was enough to make him feel better, but nothing could.
He didn’t go to his room that night, not even to rest his aching and bruised body, instead he went to see his uncle and he sobbed and sobbed for hours. Even the cruel guards said nothing and let him be held by his uncle through the bars. His uncle promised him he would be okay, that he was still a man and that not even being taken in such a way could take that from him.
Zuko listened to his uncle and he planned. He spent the next week being used by Zomai and waiting for the right moment, ignoring how Mai looked at him with worry and confusion. He refused to look at his sister when he saw her smirks fade to something more serious, most likely as she figured out what was going on.
Zuko would forever be in debt to Ty Lee and Mai, who helped him escape despite what could be done to them. He was grateful for how Mai didn’t kiss him even though he wanted her to, because he was scared of the feel and taste of Zomai tainting her.
It was just luck that he went to the western air temple. Luck that the Avatar would show up with his friends after an apparently failed siege.
It wasn’t luck that found him but the skills of Toph. She found him in one of the hidden rooms with a fever wracking his body, in soiled and dirty clothes as he backed himself into a corner.
He knew it wasn’t her fault, but oh he hated it when she spoke, “Zuko…? Your…? Oh spirits, you’re pregnant!”
Having it confirmed made him vomit right there, but luckily the girl cared for no such thing and instantly came to his side. She held him over her lap as he was sick, brushing his hair and telling him it was going to be okay.
How she managed to convince him to go to the others was simple, she told him to protect his baby. As much as he wanted to, he couldn’t hate the child. They had no choice in existing, in being made by violence and carried by a broken man, and he would not spread his hate to his own child.
The others are angry to see Toph bringing Zuko to them, but she rocks the earth with a stomp and speaks, already having asked Zuko what she could tell them, “SHUT UP! I DONT CARE WHO HE IS! His father forced him to have a baby, he’s pregnant.”
“Toph, he’s a dude.”
Zuko coughs violently, hating how his voice shakes as he answer Sokka, the man who is everything Zuko wants to be and that he can’t help but feel something towards, “not… biologically.”
Katara helps heal what she can of his sickness and they feed him. Sokka and The Duke gets him some new clothes while Toph makes him a place to rest that won’t hurt he clearly injured back.
Aang asks what they all are too scared to, “who did this to you…? And why?”
Zuko doesn’t answer for several hours and no one pushes, but then he does and everyone feels either tears or sickness form, “My fathers General. It was… my punishment. For not bringing home the Avatar.”
Aang holds onto him for the rest of the night.

if people don't think zuko didn't want to be firelord they clearly didn't watch the show.. Iroh never groomed Zuko zuko hated living a normal simple life outside of for like 4 seconds because of a crazy fever dream he wanted to be firelord to reclaim the throne. Iroh didnt groom him to be firelord.
If anyone groomed anyone its OZAI . who always gets ignored when he's the one that groomed Azula into thinking fear is the answer to keeping people you love in line and into being a child solider . but for some reason people gloss over ozai actions.. strange how that is.. when he's azula/zuko primary abuser
Azula: You can't treat me like Zuko! *in the book, oh no is he going to ask to duel me?*
Fandom: We pretend we don't see Ozais abuse....
.. hate this fandom.. everyone is so ignorant to ozais abuse of azula . ya would think her fans would realize this.. but yet they never do drives me crazy. Iroh didnt abuse Azula. Ozai did.. and he def convinced azula into thinking of him as weak/tea loving cookyhead to never take seriously..and that her mom didnt love her.. and that FEAR is the only reliable to be. if anyone created a rift it was ozai.. if anyone damaged Azula mental state it was OZAI. if ozai wasnt attractive i wonder if this would be noticed more. ozai is azulas abuser.. and he never even loved Azula.
this is the face of a man who has no love for his daughter he only loved that he could control her you can't tell me he wasn't an emotional manipulator of azula

finished watching netflix atla! i think the hate is unjustified lol like all that hate seems a little too intense for what i think the show missed. it didn't hit all the same notes as the original show, yeah, so i'm not sure it quite succeeds as an adaptation, but as a standalone show it's pretty good. and i might have some gripes with the characterization, but there was love in the casting and in the costumes and the world, and that goes a long way for me.

Now that polls exist on this site and I’m opening up my ask blog again, I figured, why not bring this back and get a definitive answer. That, and a lot has changed in Miraculous since the first time I posted this, so let’s give it a go
Challenging question for y’all. Who’s worse, Ozai or Gabriel Agreste? Cause both are shitty fathers and horrible villains, but I just can’t figure out who’s worse. Discuss what you guys think and I’ll see what you posted

Does Zu-Ozai ever get to have a romantic partner again? Losing Mai (and their not-yet-born child) seems like it would be profoundly lonely.
Ah. Well...
The short answer is that I don't have any solid plans on including a romantic interest one way or the other for Zu-Ozai in SToFLO. Let alone a particular who that would fill the role. I'm open to options, but I'm not married to any of the ideas I've had thus far.
Long answer (and potential spoilers) under the cut.
The thing is, it's kind of an awkward topic to tackle. I understand the desire for Zu-Ozai to have someone, but... Simply put he's a 19-year-old in a 35-year-old body, tossed 6 years into his own past and grieving the loss of his first wife and child. No matter what I choose to do, that's going to be messy.
The entire main cast (and the bulk of the rest of the cast for that matter) is way too young. A good chunk of the remaining cast is too old. In the leftover sliver of the canon cast, that isn't already married... Frankly, I'm not seeing any options that I'd care to write.
Maybe I've missed someone, but I can't think of a single canon character I'd be happy pairing with Zu-Ozai.
That leaves the OC route and... Welp, I haven't ruled it out, but I am highly aware that main-canon-character/original-character pairings aren't terribly popular and put a lot of readers off. (I should know. I'm one of the folks that typically avoid them like the plague.) I could get into the weeds of why, but that might easily spiral into a rather long rant... Suffice it to say that MCC /OC pairings tend to be poorly written about 98% of the time before we ever get into other reasons someone may not want to read such a pairing.
I'm still playing with the idea though because I have read a few fics that did it right. (Vathara's Embers comes to mind for giving Iroh an OC girlfriend that I rather liked.) But the "trick" to doing it right largely comes down to the OC in question having a life and purpose outside of being shipping fodder, so I can't just make a random OC on the sole basis of "Zu-Ozai deserves a wife."
That comes with its own tangle of problems. What is the OC's other (read: main) role in the story? How does this OC enter Zu-Ozai's life? Why does she stay? Are they actually compatible personality wise? What about principles? What are the political ramifications? Can I, as the author, write it in a manner that is organic rather than forced?
Honestly, the answer to that last one is probably "only if you actually let it happen organically instead of pushing it."
So... Yeah. I'd like for our boy to find someone, too, but it's not something I'm going to focus on for fear of producing something truly cringe-worthy. (Either way, I write at the pace of frozen molasses, so it will be awhile before Zu-Ozai is ready to move on and try dating again, anyway.)
**As a final aside, my current leading idea (as of writing this post) for a potential OC match is Suki's mom. -- It's my understanding that Netflix actually made a character for that role (Did they axe Oyaji as village leader or something?) so I might end up stealing Yukari's name. Pessimist fish already decided we were stealing Raava's name from TLoK for the Avatar Spirit, after all. -- A warrior from a small, neutral nation that no one cares about seems about his speed for someone he might actually be interested in without creating a political nightmare in the process. Comes with a bonus excuse to drag an itty-bitty Suki into the narrative, too!
...Someone is going to have to explain to Zu-Ozai that children "playing" hide-and-explode(-plus-blades-for-the-nonbender) across palace rooftops is NOT a normal "sibling bonding experience." Just imagine, three little hellions and their dad who doesn't think they're doing anything all that unusual. Mom be like "no that's definitely not normal... keeps their skills sharp, though." ...Okay, so I'm half-tempted to do it for the hellion step-sibling trio alone. So adorable and yet terrifying!**
